Just one alignment, but it’s an interesting one.  Mars – Moon – Venus.  This is a classic “forces opposed, in tension” situation since on one side you’ve got male/war and the other side female/love and in the middle you’ve got (what is typically) the sign of instability/change (and also variability, falsehood, betrayal, the sea/salt water, motherhood and all sorts of other things that may or may not be applicable here).  Ordinarily I’d just go with the first level interpretation and be done with it, but it’s been a while since there’s been anything to look at and besides I’m really bored at the moment.  So we’ve got two oppositional states and a change sign.  The next step is to try and determine which direction if any the change is occurring.  Since these signs are on opposite sides of the moon, and the moon is close to Earth, this necessarily means that they are also on opposite sides of the sky (more or less).  If you’ve been paying attention, you know that Mars has been in Aries for an awfully long time.  Venus is not directly opposite it, and in fact is moving from Libra into Scorpio at almost this exact point in time.  Times of transition are particularly important, so this means that we should probably be paying a bit more attention to what is going on here.  There are two observations:  Venus is doing the transition, not Mars and it’s moving from Libra which further indicates that the instability/change is on the part of Venus.  In olden times, this would be an indicator of a broken alliance or the beginning of a war.  Today, it could still mean that, but with the modern implication of transition, we might want to be on the lookout for a princess who is about to have a major life change.  As a SCIENCE!tist, just like any other Expert(tm), you get used to relying on your intuition, which is a self-indulgent way of saying that I typically don’t bother checking my assumptions.  That habit would have bitten me in this case, because all of these things this all comes from the unstated assumption that Mars and Venus were originally in some sort of balance and the moon indicated a shift in power between the two.  But looking at the moon indicates that this idea is in error.  Because the moon at this point will be in a quarter phase that is half-illuminated and this a symbol of balance.  So all of these things actually indicate that Venus will be shifting into a position of equality with Mars.  The fact that the moon itself is transiting between signs at the same time all of this is happening is further confirmation that it is the moon that is the key to this whole thing.  Astrology, like all other SCIENCE!s, can be dangerous if you try to apply it with a shallow understanding.
