I guess I overpromised and under-delivered last week.

Okay.  This is my review of Prairie Artisan Ales Vape Tricks Sour Brewed over Cherries:

I am going to level with everyone here:  When I first heard the joke that the difference between a libertarian and an anarchist is six months… I didn’t know a ton about Rothbard.  I didn’t buy any of his books (until yesterday).  I was happy enough with my descent into anarchy with previous three philosophers.  Coupled between Rothbard’s short foray in working with Pat Buchannan and troubled slightly by Hoppe I decided at that point if I keep finding crazier and crazier people its only a matter of time before I start shooting at black helicopters.

I’m happy to be wrong about all of this and it is a mere coincidence I will be prepared mentally to shoot at black helicopters in no time.

“Both are right”

Born in 1926 Rothbard was a prodigal student in math and economics but interestingly received no specific training in Austrian economics.  His outlook might have been similar enough to that of Ludwig Von Mises but Rothbard never studied under him.  The Mises Institute however, does have a lot of information in their archives, including his copy of The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money by John Maynard Keynes.  He very much scribbled all over the book.  They highlight one of his responses to Keynes in the margins.

While he did coin everyone’s favorite phrase, “Taxation is Theft”, Rothbard is best known for taking the Austrian school to its logical conclusion.  If humans are capable of functioning peacefully with a minimalist state, why have the state at all?  In reaching this conclusion, his argument was no longer burdened by the challenge presented to any minarchist in the disagreement.  The challenge will always be at what point the state will need to intervene if the baseline agreement is a governing body is necessary at any level.  You will never have to argue where one draws that line, if you argue the line should not be drawn in the first place.  Who died and made some arbitrary line king?

It’s liberating in and of itself.

His best known work (the one I purchased), The Case Against the Fed is a relatively short read, that describes the impact of central banking on the economy and politics.  Its reach being far wider than most will ever consider, which is why I bought it.  I might want to pass this one around.

As always, for those that decided to skip to the end, here’s the TL/DR version:

This beer was obtained from the distinguished gentleman known around here as Deadhead, who was present at the Glibfest a few weeks ago.  Not surprisingly, there was plenty of booze there and it was taken as an insult if I insisted I needed to drive. And so…I imbibed.  It reminds me a lot of one of the New Belgium Lips of Faith series that came out several years ago called American Kreik.  Its a sour, lambic style ale that finished with refreshing, tart cherries.  I almost felt bad taking this one home.

Almost. Prairie Artisan Ales Vape Tricks Sour Brewed over Cherries:  4.2/5
