I am about a week into being a Mac owner, and I love it, but my browser history is full of things that should be obvious, but I couldn’t figure out how to do.

Like…how to adjust the brightness on your MacBook Pro.

And how to connect ProtonMail to Mac Mail.

Rumour has it that Apple will change the serial numbers on Macs. Not sure why.

And if you do use Apple products, do the update to patch a security vulnerability.

For those of us who use Untappd, the app is approaching their billionth check-in sometime in April, and they are commemorating it with a year of free beer. Details here.

A brief history of gose, which is my current favourite beer style.

I’ve recently discovered two new liquors that I want to try. One is Belvedere Vodka, and the other is Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin. Belvedere is a rye vodka, which is supposedly fantastic for martinis. A friend recommended the Gunpowder and says it is a smooth yet vibrant gin. I can get it from my local liquor distributor for the bar, but the ski season is coming to an end, so I’m trying not to place an order. We carry Hendrick’s as our top shelf, but I recently swapped it out for Roku, which is better in my opinion, and cheaper from my distributor. Thanks to the superior quality, I can charge the same price. Next season I hope to have a dramatically expanded gin selection.

An intriguing history of the v-16 engine.

Southwest Iceland is looking shaky.

For the last few years I’ve been into the concept of divine timing and how something minor like someone counting out change sloooowwwwwly ahead of you at 7 Eleven can keep you from getting into a car accident.

Then, last June, I came across an episode of On Being in which physicist Leonard Mlodinow talks about how randomness reigns, yet the choices we make still matter. It was a compelling episode, and since then I’ve started listening to a lot of other podcasts he has been on. I just ordered his book The Drunkard’s Walk: How Randomness Rules Our Lives. I’ll update with my review in our next What We’re Reading post.
