Zombeavers

This is a fun comedy, one of those not-so-rare films that people love and critics hate.  Get ready for man (and dog) eating beavers! Nudity! And beaver – induced zombification!

It was a hard choice to make for the Halloween movie. I considered Deathgasm, but I decided to do that earlier (mostly to make up for Robo-Vampire). Then I wanted to do NetherBeast, Incorporated – a great film but just not exciting enough for Halloween. So Zombeavers it is!

This is yet another directorial first! These should really be celebrated. We live in a world where we have 10 Halloween sequels, for chrissakes. The world needs new stories, not high-budget remakes. This particular film was directed and co-written by Jordan Rubin, who has a ton of writing credits. He went on to be a major presence on Crank Yankers, writing more than 40 episodes. Prior to Zombeavers, he was a writer on The Man Show, with over 90 episodes under his belt. He also did the DotComBoom podcast, if you remember that. He directed a few TV episodes prior to this, but directing a movie is a different animal. Well done, and I hope to see some more! It’s been six years since Zombeavers which is actually about the time it takes to raise funding and gather momentum.  This is especially true in today’s environment where risk-averse studios throw money at vapid sequels and remakes.

Zombeavers may not be the only film you want to see this weekend. If you have been enjoying the run of newer movies the past two weeks I shall include some more below for background during any Halloween parties. I grabbed a good assortment of films that most of you have not seen:

  • Dead Snow: Red vs Dead: A Sequel! Undead Nazis continue their rampage across the countryside, killing communists. Yay!  Nazis kill hipsters in the first film, simply entitled Dead Snow. It is not on TUBI but you can find it on Amazon. This is a fine film series.
  • Dead Sushi: Sushi comes to life and eats people. Good clean fun for the whole family!
  • Linnea Quigley’s Horror Workout: I found a Linnea Quigley film. I bet you haven’t seen it either! Finding a Linnea Quigley movie  was a request about 6 posts ago.  Sorry to say the shower scene was censored.

Back to Zombeavers. This is clearly an explicit film so I thought it would be fun to read the parental certifications on IMDB. I was right!

  • A disappointed parent: “Some crude and juvenile sexual discussion throughout the film, about the size of a penis, vibrators, masturbation, cunnilingus etc. One character suggests a group orgy (this doesn’t happen). Nothing too graphic.”
  • Clearly a lawyer: “A man has a cannabis leaf on his t-shirt, possibly indicating he smokes cannabis.”
  • PETA hardest hit: “Beavers are shot, stabbed, kicked and struck with weapons throughout the film.”
  • Finally – A penis degloving! “A man’s penis is bitten off by a human/beaver hybrid. It is seen as a very bloody, unrecognizable mess.” It was seven posts ago I promised I’d find a penis degloving. Win!

If those parent testimonials are not enough to get you to watch this, I don’t know what will get you going. Watch it or don’t – everything is voluntary! Happy Halloween!

Starting in November I will be covering different genres. I am planning on starting next week with The Ash Lad: In the Hall of the Mountain King.
