The skies are oddly noncommittal this week. Really the only thing worth noting is on Thursday we get Mercury-Sol-Mar meaning “News (or change) about the war.” Which seems rather important. So instead of doing my usual bit of looking at the week as a whole, let’s take a look at what else is going on that day, astrologicallywise speaking. On that day, the moon is in Sagittarius which doesn’t tell us a whole lot in re: military conflicts. For those actively involved in it is does indicate a new piece of intelligence, but I’m not sure how that comes through. The other thing is the sun moving to join Mercury in Taurus. Taurus isn’t typically known for any connection to change or dynamism, so instead we should look at its meanings of strength, irresistible force, etc. The most likely interpretation? Big tank battle that day. Mars being in Pisces indicates that it could be referring to warships, which is bolstered by Saturn being in Aquarius, but the role of Taurus in most of the planets makes it more likely this is a land-based event.

Just got back from a new set of trails. It’s got a big enough reservoir for Lily to jump in. Apparently she doesn’t like swimming, just bounding along in water where she can still touch.
Too much marshland around here. Today it was fine, but soon it’ll be mosquito territory.
The whole state is a swamp that just happens to have mountains in it.
Fortunately where my house is built is on sandy soil and sufficiently higher than the Kayaderosseras that the only time I see standing water is when it rains on frozen ground.
Someone suggested this cabbage technique, and it seems to be working great:
Chop up cabbage. Place in slow cooker (or instapot on “slow cooker” setting) with a stick of butter and wait six hours.
I’m going to use some of it to make colcannon potatoes to go with the roast.

The Skeptics Guide to the Universe brought a study about healthy democracy and public media.
The authors say that public funding of media correlates with healthy democracy based on their measures.
Healthy democracies (like england) spend 100x more based on GDP. So we need to spend 100x more on public broadcasting.

They literally argue that in order to have a functioning democracy, the state has to provide public media…

Nobody even bothered to mention Russia, China, North Korea, Cuba… you know, places where 100% of the media is funded by the state.

I let my subscription drop. They have some interesting stuff, but they still are largely regime media.
^Yep. The “news” section has lately rivaled the New York Times or Washington Post in its lurch to left.
The editorial section ostensibly still leans right, but more like the McCain and Romney right. Their stance on the 2nd A lately has called for reasonable restrictions, the constitution, isn’t a suicide pact, etc.

This has been done. The “horoscope” is a vague set of statements that most people would say describes them.
The classic version has a professor handing out individualized reading to each student. He asks them to read it and then raise their hand if they think it is pretty accurate. Everyone raises their hand.
He says, “now we are going to do an experiment. We are going to evaluate whether the reading really is accurate. I am going to have you read your classmate paper and see if an independent party agrees that it is accurate. So please pass your papers back and read your neighbors paper.
After they pass the papers, giggling begins to spread throughout the class as they realize they were all given the identical reading.
