You can’t take Al away, Al made it fun

I watched a couple episodes of the Quantum Leap reboot.   Without getting into the obvious problem they ran out of ideas and its a show taking place in the future, so naturally in the future a trans character will be accepted without question—Here’s why the reboot doesn’t work:

The people that like the original like the campiness and the low budget, low quality filming.  It wasn’t particularly good even for the early 90’s, but the concept is cool enough to ignore that.  Like many science fiction shows depicting the future, it is bound by the technology available at the time, which gives it a certain charm and often why shows like this have a cult following.  This is not like Battlestar Galactica, where they made a better show in every way possible to not antagonize the cult. No, they literally took the concept, gave it modern graphics and made Al a woman.  Its a reboot where they actually recycle episodes from the original.  Everything about it is lazy.

So I binge watched the first season of the original over the weekend.

The big story this morning is a group of migrants at a detention facility in Mexico lit a mattress on fire in protest, and wound up burning the whole place down.

In another sign of semi-autonomous rule, the Gulf Cartel apologizes for kidnapping American medical tourists.  I guess that was Carl, he’s new.

Why vote when the winner will be Castro?

Since there was only one candidate running for each of the 470 legislative seats, turnout was watched by observers as a political thermometer.

At least the Soviets pretended to give the choice between two communists.

Honduras no longer recognizes diplomatic ties with Taiwan as the real China. Which is part of a larger trend in Latin America.

The Sur” and why an EU like currency alliance in South America probably won’t work.  My first guess is there isn’t anything resembling the German economy there to prop everyone else up.

A year after El Presidente Dude Bro cracked down on the gangs running his country, he’s trolling the US.  Good for him.

I don’t follow Formula 1, but I assume everything about this story is true, including Lewis Hamilton being gay.

The trouble with some of these posthumous track releases, is there is probably a reason they didn’t release it while they were still alive.

I would hope these are drugs falling out of my ass and this was discussed earlier.

Federal agents were dispatched to Taibbi’s residence the very same day that the investigative journalist appeared before the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, also chaired by Representative Jordan.

This should be the reaction of someone with authority over the IRS.

  3. Spartacus

Well, I was going to run down the whole idea of the sur, but then I read this:
““It’s a terrible idea,” opined the Nobel laureate Paul Krugman”
    So it cannot possibly fail.

    • Scruffyy Nerfherder

      The Euro is crumbling!

      Let’s imitate it!

      • Spartacus

That was my first reaction, but if Krugnuts thinks it’s a bad idea, then maybe it has a pretty good chance.

      • robc

Krugabe also thinks MMT is bunk.

He hasnt gone ENTIRELY brain dead.

      • Compelled Speechless

Or he hasn’t gotten his orders from the DNC to go all in on it. Check out Bob Murphy’s Contra Krugman. Krugnuts is a naked propogandist who will directly contradict his previous positions to make sure he always lock step with the party line. His job is to make whatever the party is selling sound reasonable – neigh scientific-ish!

Watching a video of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez go full retard in the House posted this morning, and I couldn’t help but wonder what founders of this country would think if they could see just that. That is what happened to the republic they created.

Which Founder? I’m pretty sure Franklin would be thinking about bangin her.

Thinking? It would already be done.

But yes, the 19th amendment was a mistake.

      • Brochettaward

Being a complete embarrassment and mockery of the institution you were voted into is hardly just the fault of female voters. How many supposed men voted for Adam Kinzinger?

See, Tulip. We aren’t all misogynistic sexists jerking it to Q’s links.

The 19th amendment wasn’t a mistake. Democracy in the first place was a mistake.

It will always devolve into putting a certain kind of person into power – shameless, narcissistic attention whores, by preference borderline sociopathic, who will do and say anything for attention, and the resulting votes and power. Because that’s who wins elections.

The question is, does that make it worse than the alternatives?

Ecuador uses the US Dollar. It is where all the Sacagawea coins ended up.

Has the rest of Latin America considered doing the same.

    • mexican sharpshooter

Same in Costa Rica, sort of. Apparently they charge you in Dollars but give you change back in the local currency.

    • rhywun

    • R C Dean

      Panama uses the dollar.

      • Grummun

Belize has their own dollar, but it’s pegged 2:1 to the USD, and everyone takes US money. Sometimes you get mixed change back.

  9. Shpip

And so, today, Latin America remains fragmented. Only 15 percent of trade stays within the region, compared with 55 percent in Europe and 38 percent in North America.

What, exactly, gets produced in Latin America that other Latin Americans a) want to buy, and b) can afford?

    • robc

Think how poor latin america is.

Now imagine how poor they would be if the other 85% of trade stayed home.

      Trade makes you rich(er).

      • Compelled Speechless

You don’t know what you’re talking about. You can turn society and the economy on and off like a faucet. As we learned during COVID, you can shut down all trade if you want and there are no negative consequences as long as you remember to speed up the money printer. Logically it follows that a highly efficient money printer makes you richer.

  10. Brochettaward

Also, the media desperately trying to make the Nashville shooting about the response times of the cops (who seemed to have handled the situation as well as possible) would be kind of amusing to me normally. Anything to distract from an event harmful to the narrative.

    • Certified Public Asshat

I don’t want to be too much of a cynical ass because they did earn the hero moniker this time, but pretty amazing how fast the body cam footage comes out when they did do the right thing.

    • Tonio

Must suck to be an Uvalde cop about now.

      • Certified Public Asshat

Well, I think we found out right away they were useless.

      • Compelled Speechless

Why? Are they finally going to get fired or be held criminally liable for their negligence?

      • R C Dean

Now? It has sucked to be a Uvalde cop since the shooting there. Because it sucks to be a gutless pussy who would literally rather make sure his hands are nice and clean than save a child’s life.

Since they are still all on the job, as far as I know, apparently neither they nor the residents of Uvalde realize this.

    This Scotsman won’t be drunk.

Humza Yousaf has said becoming Scotland’s first Muslim leader sends a strong message “to every single person out there who feels that they don’t belong”, after he was voted in by MSPs.

But the first minister’s attempts to reunited his party after a bitter leadership campaign fell at the first hurdle after his main rival, Kate Forbes, turned down a position in his cabinet, saying she preferred to support him from the backbenches.

Across the chamber, the Scottish Labour leader, Anas Sarwar – who is the first ethnic minority leader of Scottish Labour, briefly laid down party political hostilities to promise Yousaf he would work alongside him to combat bigotry.

    • Michael Malaise
