Here we are again my friends. I’m actually a little slow today. Mostly because on my primary contract its End-of-Sprint day. So basically, other than a shit-load of meetings, its not really a work day. Although, I do have to say that push-button code promotion that actually works is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I mean, we’re not quite at a full CI/CD yet, but just being able to reliably push a button and walk away, knowing shit will work? That’s got to be worth at least 100 hours/year for me.
Get ready for more of this: Biden proposes slashing 401(k) tax incentives. Next up: caps on total money in retirement accounts
Jerry Falwell does seem like the cuck type, no?
Van Morrison, hero of science.
“Biden proposes slashing 401(k) tax incentives.”
How is that going to help him win?
Cause its unfair that people who save in tax advantaged accounts get tax advantages. Now their are no unfair tax advantages.
That being said => I read about this and just think: Why is the government fucking around with making rules on how people can save for retirement.
Because they can. Because power is its own end. And, as always, because fuck you, that’s why.
The true purpose of taxation is not to raise money to run the government – that’s just a side benefit. No, the real purpose is to be able to direct human behavior as our superiors deem fit. It is known.
“run the government” = “[directing] human behavior as our superiors deem fit”.
You’ve just been Black&Goldpilled.
Go Steelers
They don’t have their bubble suits ready yet.
There I go with my quaint notions of why governments are instituted amongst men, and from whence they derive their just power.
This bullshit idea of fairness. I mean think about it, they are gearing up for the day when they propose that (coincidentally when SS is on the verge of collapse) that they can keep the system afloat if they can seize money from the 401k’s because it’s not fair that seniors have to starve while those assholes who saved during their careers are living worry free.
I used to be confused about these things way back in my youth. I would always think, how does it help that we raise taxes, but give it back in several special tax cuts, so it seems to be a net negative effect? Can we just keep it simple? I didn’t understand the magical workings of administrative fees.
That Forbes writer spun as hard as she could to hide the fact that this is the first step in taking away retirement savings outside of whatever Uncle Sugar graciously allows you to collect from the G.
Yes, and the argument will be along the lines of what Ed said and also that “These types of accounts wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the government graciously giving them advantages, so it’s time people pay back their fair share!”
And it will be done by executive order.
Well, it is true that the Dems don’t mind seeing a city burnt to the ground; I just didn’t figure they had DC in mind.
Burned, salted and surrounded by a wall of pikes adorned with rotting skulls.
Is Joe going to raise taxes on his government pension?
“How is that going to help him win?”
Hah, greatest platform in history.
We’ll tax you to death, lock you in your house, and let rioters run rampant in the streets so that you’re not even safe locked up in your house. WIN!
These are the only things Trump needs to hammer on for the next 2 and 1/2 months. Literally does not need to talk about anything else.
I’m glad to hear them finally talking about socialism. If you can’t scare gramps and granny swing states voters with ‘they’re commies’, then I don’t know what will work. And it’s verifiable. Even though they just spent a decade saying they’re socialist and don’t even mention it at their own convention and the media are now silent after printing all that ‘we’re all socialist now’ bullshit.
I’d rather have them eliminate the mortgage interest deduction. For most people the personal deduction is high enough that they aren’t itemizing anyway. I guess this would hit too many people with high incomes in areas with high housing costs, aka the Dem donor base.
It would also hit a lot of people who are up to their eyeballs in debt, and those people are the ones who would make the parade of horribles on the nightly news.
Would it though? I assume most of those take the standard deduction now. I know I do, but then my mortgage is below average for the area since we put about 50% down when we bought the house. Anyway, if it were to ever happen, which it won’t, it probably would have to be phased in so it doesn’t impact the people who just took out a mortgage and were counting on the deduction.
I became a 1st time homeowner in late 2017. I ran my 2017 numbers itemizing, for shits and giggles, and no, std deduction obviously. I only had a few mortgage payments in 2017, cmon. Did it again in 2018, fortheLolz, again, bwahahah, std deduction. Same for 2019.
My salary/mortgage ratio is 1.88
Unless the actual value was pointed out the other day in the thread where that ratio was discussed at length and I missed it, I’m guessing the ratio required to make the mortgage deduction work in your benefit is something over 3.
So yes, high incomes, to be able to secure even more insanely high mortages they can barely afford, and not really after their 3.5 auto leases, 1.5 nonbinary kids’ private school tuition, 3 vacations/yr, etc.
How is that going to help him win?
Because what he is doing is converting a savings program to a welfare program, converting deductions for retirement saving into “refundable tax credits”.
Mo’ welfare = mo’ Dem votes.
As a happy side effect, it will create a drag on capital formation. Everything going into a retirement account is capital formation. This will reduce, on net, the amount saved for retirement. And, those refundable tax credits are for spending. Sure, you could bank them (and some fraction might be), but where do you think they will go.
I guess they fucking love “science” more than his music.
“saying socially distanced gigs were not economically viable”
That’s not science. It’s not even economics. That’s just basic accounting.
I can practically hear the dripping contempt in that article. “Take THAT, Van!”
“Jerry Falwell does seem like the cuck type, no?”
Honestly, I was expecting a black guy.
“Pool boy claims Becki Falwell told him he needed someone with ‘more experience than younger girls as she picked him up at Miami hotel pool before they had sex in front of Jerry in his Speedos'”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8662169/Pool-boy-claims-Jerry-Falwell-Jr-watched-Speedos-sex-Becki.html
The only non-hispanic pool boy in Miami?
Not enough photos of the pool boy to form an opinion.
Obviously, he’s one of those “white Hispanics” out to shoot small black children.
*yawn* What a cliché.
Campari is the root of
allfalwell evil.Let the lawsuits begin.

Only a racist would oppose this.
I’m a racist, just like MLK Jr.
I wonder what the administrative costs of that are.
99%
110%, it needs more funding!
That is where the real grift is.
I clicked through the links and despite the wording on the front page, it doesn’t seem to mention any other limitation to only black individuals/businesses. Wonder if that will be the fig leaf they use to try and thwart federal anti-discrimination laws. Still, think I might file an OIG complaint anyways due to the clear wording on the front page as well as the published intent of the program.
I imagine they might argue “we didn’t say it was exclusively for black people” but even then i think it would breech anti-discrimination laws. The only recourse would probably be “well we’re a government so we can discriminate”.
Except that they’re running federal money to a fund administered by private entities.
On it’s face, looks like it violates 42 USC § 2000d
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/42/2000d
Like I said, I think I might just file a complaint just for shits and giggles.
“42 USC DOOD’s not here, Man”
I got nuthin.
Biden proposes slashing 401(k) tax incentives.
We are becoming a nation of grasshoppers. This will end badly.
I want to be a Cylon, Elon is the first step,
5th!
Not quite, but still, since it’s your birthday, I think you should get an honorary 5th.
A fifth for his birthday? I though Y was a tall cans kinda guy?
The Urban Institute proposal assumed that higher-income workers would continue to save just as usual, even if they are on the losing end of tax changes.
Sounds like a bad assumption to me.
In a claim likely to intensify the controversy surrounding one of the most influential figures in the American Christian conservative movement, a business partner of Jerry Falwell Jr has come forward to say he had a years-long sexual relationship involving Falwell’s wife and the evangelical leader.
No kink shaming. Unless of course your kink is kink shaming.
On the singer’s Facebook page, self-professed Morrison fans gave a largely scathing response to his appeal for full-capacity audiences. “This is madness. The science is real,” said one. “We love you, Van, but calling pandemic management protocols ‘pseudo-science’ is probably the dumbest and certainly the most dangerous idea you’ve ever put your name to,” wrote another.
Those fans can go fuck themselves.
Yusef, I saw on the morning links thread that it is your birthday. Happy birthday!
I have a crazy idea… Let’s have the artist, the venue and the audience drcide how much risk they are willing to assume and get your fucking megalomaniacal mitts out of the deal altogether.
Some news I missed: Maine business owners lose lawsuit against Gauleiterin Mills
A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit by business owners Friday who challenged the governor’s restrictions on their operations during the coronavirus pandemic.
One of the most infamous plaintiffs involved is Rick Savage, the co-owner of Sunday River Brewing Company in Bethel. Savage created a buzz after going on Fox News’ ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ on April 30 and declaring that he would open his restaurant to dine-in customers on May 1, despite the Mills administration’s orders for restaurants to open to dine-in customers starting June 1. His actions caused him to temporarily lose his state licenses.
U.S. District Judge Lance Walker on Friday sided with Gov. Janet Mills and granted her motion to dismiss. He said the plaintiffs failed to state any claim that would entitle them to the relief they sought. They had asked the judge to declare the governor’s orders unconstitutional and lift the restrictions on their businesses.
“Many people, Plaintiffs among them, call into question the wisdom of any restrictions on commercial activity, which is a right almost universally accepted,” Walker wrote. “But these Plaintiffs have not alleged facts demonstrating a present violation of their constitutional rights that warrants injunctive relief; not while the Nation is scrambling to adapt to an unprecedented pandemic that is believed to have killed more than 150,000 Americans in four months and caused debilitating illness for many survivors.”
I’ve been to Sunday River Brewing twice this summer. Once when he was operating without his licenses and in defiance of an injunction ordering him to close, and another time after he won the fight over whether or not he could operate his business. I like the place. Good beer, good food, good doughnuts. I recommend if you are near Bethel, ME you stop in.
What the fuck bulshit is this? Of course you have that right, but you havn’t stated how that right is being violated, because this is a pandemic.
That about sums it up. More succinctly: Fuck you and fuck your constitution.
No prominent artists or musicians have publicly backed his call to lift restrictions on concerts, which he posted last Friday. The website administrators did not immediately respond on Monday to a Guardian request for more details. The Guardian has also contacted Morrison’s agent.
Whycome him no bow down to Top Men?
77 NFL players test positive for Lil Rona… except they’re actually negative
After reports of false-positive tests, 77 NFL players from 11 different teams who apparently tested positive for the China-originated novel coronavirus had their tests re-examined at New Jersey lab BioReference, which found every single test to be negative.
According to The Associated Press, which first reported the re-testing from BioReference, the New Jersey lab will re-examine the tests for second time to be sure they are false positives.
“Hey so we were wrong, but we’ll double check to see if we were wrong.” I think your credibility is already shot.
How do you fuck up that many tests?
Just ask that every time the media tells you covid in “surging” somewhere and you should start panicking.
What? There’s bad testing going on out there? I would never believe that.
There’s no reason not to?
https://www.bioreference.com/media-alert-update-on-nfl-covid-19-testing/
Reading between the lines, it sounds like they didn’t clean their equipment properly between testing.
I know that guy – he has to be pissed.
If that’s it, it’s another case of coming down to the weakest link. My operating assumption is that most people are lazy when it comes to work procedures and will do the bar eminimum. If there’s inadequate oversight or checking, they’re going to do a half-assed job, get it done, and move on to the next work item. Rarely do people do the full standard on their own.
And I’d be pissed too if I was at the top.
He’s a guy writers would say “doesn’t suffer fools gladly.”
Even Van Morrison is catching shit? Ah COVID hysteria is such a sweet thing.
The pool-boy clickbait just makes me wonder what are the media trying to distract us from now.
Willie Brown enters the arena…
I just pictured Willie Brown in a Speedo. Damn you!
A man that wears $6000 suits isn’t going to sport a speedo.
You know Kamala must’ve been good, he would never have forgiven her dribbling on his trousers.
UK Lockdown was a mistake
Mark Woolhouse said lockdown was a “panic measure” but admitted it was the only option at the time because “we couldn’t think of anything better to do”.
But it is a crude measure that takes no accounts of the risk levels to different individuals, the University of Edinburgh professor said, meaning that back in March the nation was “concentrating on schools when we should have been concentrating on care homes”.
The professor of infectious disease epidemiology said that the Government must now focus on increasing testing and striving to unlock society safely rather than restricting it further.
Prof Woolhouse OBE, a member of the Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Behaviours that advises the Government, said: “Lockdown was a panic measure and I believe history will say trying to control Covid-19 through lockdown was a monumental mistake on a global scale, the cure was worse than the disease.
“I never want to see national lockdown again. It was always a temporary measure that simply delayed the stage of the epidemic we see now. It was never going to change anything fundamentally, however low we drove down the number of cases, and now we know more about the virus and how to track it we should not be in this position again.
Since it’s never been done before, “it was the only thing we could think of” raises more questions than it answers.
It doesn’t raise a question, it simply admits to gross incompetence.
“….unarmed black father Jacob Blake…”
I’m sure this guy is just a terrific dad.
I don’t know if the shooting was justified or not, but describing this guy that way seems a mite disingenuous to me.
Which adjective are you disagreeing with?
That “black” was included.
“black” is problematic because it wasn’t capitalized
/AP stylist
Neither. Disagreeing with the noun “father”. Doesn’t seem particularly relevant here.
Except his kids were in the car.
It was already known that old people were getting hit hard. How difficult was it to know that they should concentrate on old folks homes? These experts are really stupid.

From the link about “protesters” being shot at when they decided to irritate the wrong neighborhood:
Milwaukee protest leader Frank Sensabaugh, also known as Frank Nitty….
I protest this egregious cultural appropriation!
A dude from Milwaukee is in a protest in rural PA while en route to DC? Are they like one of those barnstorming baseball teams from the 1930s who drove around the country looking for games?

“COVID-19 cases in the US decline for the fifth straight week and average daily infections drop to 42,000 for the first time since June – but South Dakota sees a 50% surge following its annual Sturgis motorcycle rally”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8662097/COVID-19-cases-decline-fifth-straight-week.html
Hmm…. prediction: “50% surge” without talking about the underlying numbers means the underlying numbers are tiny. Time to read the article…
The state that saw the biggest increase in cases last week was South Dakota at 50 percent with 1,000 new infections, according to a Reuters tally of state and county reports.
Combined with:
At least two dozens COVID-19 cases in South Dakota, Minnesota and Nebraska have now been linked back to the rally.
South Dakota’s health department issued several warnings last week saying that three people who spent several hours at bars in Sturgis and a tattoo parlor had tested positive and had potentially exposed others.
The state, which now has 11,200 cases, has been experiencing an uptick of COVID-19 infections with cases steadily rising over the last month.
SD currently has 11,200 cases and had 1,000 new cases last week which is a 50% increase. Huh?
50% increase in new cases, I guess? So 666 new cases the week before the 1000 case week. I guess.
But then the color-coded US map has SD holding steady, so who knows.
It almost feels like someone is lying and obfuscating things… ?♂️
They’ve gone from around 95 cases/day to around 150 cases a day. So, yeah, you’re about right. The media is freaking out about an increase in SD of about 50 cases a day.
The current upslope in SD turned up to its current rate about 9 days ago, meaning exposures would have happened about two weeks ago. The rally was August 7 – 16, so the timing isn’t bad. Of course, the Sturgis rally exposed people in basically one town; it remains to be seen how many of these new cases were exposed in Sturgis.
SD went from about 60 cases/day to about 90 cases a day over the three weeks before Sturgis. Assuming that slope would have continued regardless of Sturgis, we’re really looking at potential increase of around 30 cases a day due to the increase in the rate.
Thanks.
It’s a shame the Daily Fail didn’t put that information in the article.
The media are freaking out more about a thousand cases in a week than they did about 750+ deaths a day in NY.
Increase in weekly rate, which has been going up over the last month there. Which is true, but they are still below many states on a cases per capita basis, and even less considering their population was artificially raised by Sturgis.
And, as Invisible Finger noted below, that’s not deaths, which have not seen a corresponding rise, even after allowing for the 2-3 week lag.
Cases – as if those mean a goddamned thing.
^This.
Gotta stop the spread, man! /prog

It’s simply unprecedented that this virus is behaving like every other highly contagious virus through history.
The curve only mattered on the upslope.

I guess he’s not getting the new health Czar job?
Funny, but the usage of OBE I am most familiar with is overcome by events – which is generally not a good thing.

heh. Kinda works here.
OBE in question.
” slashing 401(k) tax incentives”
Nice little 401 bundle you’ve manage to squirrel away, Citizen, looks like a little inflation may be necessary. We ‘borrowed’ some from your account but we’ll pay in back in New Dollars, pinky swear.
40 % inflation since 2000. Hey, its only 2 % a year. Milton Friedman, for a smart man you must have been home that day when Hayek/Mises discussed that part of monetary theory
Tough to teach youngsters the value of thrift, maybe the kids are right.
I don’t know. I’ve talked to my Dad about the Stagflation era. That is something i don’t want to live through. 10% inflation year over year for a decade?
20% misery index — 10% inflation and 10% unemployment.
The Carter years.
The government has gotten better about lying about the real inflation rate since then.
I bought my first house at that time, 8.5 % interest, thought I was getting a heck of a deal. In a way it was, ’cause the cost of housing was escalating via the inflation. We got to wear our WIN badges that Jerry Ford thought would solve the problem. I was getting 18 % on my very first IRA, what a deal.
It occurred to me 5+ years ago, that the government would have to come after 401k’s to fix social security.
So I have not been dumping all that I could into the 401K,
I was in high school during the Carter years so I never dumped all I could into the 401k. I made sure the rest went into non-government-advantaged investments.
“caps on total money in retirement accounts”
Great idea! That ought to lower wages and delay young people entering the work force even more.
Young people are too busy to work, what with protesting, looking, burning, you know, gap year(s) stuff.
Florida cop’s wife dies while trapped in rear of hot police SUV
I would think you’d be required to lock the vehicle because of the equipment inside. Also I can easily see small kids trapping themselves too. I wonder if she keyed her way into the vehicle for whatever reason.
Something tells me there is more to this story.
Another tragic COVID death in Florida!
Prince George’s County police charge 2 men in shooting of 3 officers
Nobody rioted over this one.

I… can’t even.
We talk about housing and college bubbles… how about the sports bubble.
I believe that release clause is only for an unsolicited bid. If Messi wants to go, Barcelona takes what they can get now, or he goes for free next June.
Sounds about right. I don’t recall seeing one over $100 mil before.
Wasn’t Neymar’s in the 200M euro range when he was at Barca?
Could be. I don’t pay any attention to him.
We are taking your 401K
We are raising your taxes
We are taking your fuel efficient individual transportation
We are taking your guns
We are taking your single family homes
We are taking your options in healthcare
Who would vote for this communist scum?
People who believe all those things will only apply to someone else.
People who think they are the Pauls and not the Peters. People who think they will at the very least be manning clipboards. People who cheer Blue Team since ’63 or before and haven’t thought to check out the current platform.
This is sure to win back all those rust belt voters.
I’ve come to the unfortunate conclusion that there’s a whole lot of people who want to be told what to do.
And via the wonders of progjection – you must need to be told what to do as well!
It’s just science.
About half of the electorate. Including a painfully large portion of my family, and my wife’s family. As my brother tried to frame it, it’s about whether you are for “individual freedom or the common good”. And by individual freedom, he subsequently revealed he meant “being a selfish bastard who doesn’t care about others.”
I said, no, it’s about individual freedom versus tyranny. The conversation went downhill quickly after that.
Why does “promote the common good” always seem to mean punish productivity and reward sloth?
Because there’s nothing more common than sloth. Productivity is a rebuke to sloth, and that’s not good — unmutual ya know.
It’s unclear why she went into the SUV, which her husband left unlocked in their driveway when he returned home and went straight to bed late Friday morning, sources told the Herald.

Yup. The build back better and look how good this had been is all about ushering in socialism.
It is hard not to see the hand of the PRC in everything they do now. Xi wants the rest of the world crippled and at China’s bidding.
Throughout history, outbreaks and pandemics have changed economies and societies. This one will be no different.
In particular, the pandemic has given new impetus to the need to accelerate efforts to respond to climate change.
Also, a fifteen minute call could save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance.

“But it also gives us a once-in-a-century opportunity to shape the world our children will inherit”
Let me guess – our children will inherit qunitillions in more debt.
It’s comforting that Biden and Tedros are sharing the same campaign slogan, isn’t it?
Lileks wrote my favorite passage of all time:
That’s great!
Hey, he has the stones to say it out loud – you know what kind of backlash he is going to face.
That’s certainly true. Somebody’s headed for a defrocking and banishment from the High Holy Priesthood.
In too local news, a judge has sided with the FL teachers unions that the state has no say in how or when school districts must return to school, and without citing any passage in the state constitution, found the State’s mandate that all districts must return in August to be probably unconstitutional and issued a stay against the order. I guess, then, the State’s job is to shut the fuck up and send money. Like, first of all, the fact that I am defending the Florida Department of Education pisses me off. How shitty does the other side have to be? Second, I’m pretty damn sure that the State has traditionally had the power to set the number of mandatory days of attendance, and the period in which those must be attended. Third, the judge just blew of the ADA claims, which floored me. So a school district has to spend thousands of extra dollars per pupil accommodating severely disabled children (Mrs. L did a physical therapy assistant’s internship at a school that was basically specially geared for children with extreme developmental disabilities), but they can just tell those same kids, “sorry, school started but not for you”? That seems a clear violation of both the spirit and letter of the Americans with Disabilities Act. I mean, my school district went back, and I would literally lead a torches and pitchforks march on the district administration building if they cancelled school, so I guess that’s good. It just really pisses me off that some random judge can say that “safety” (without any metrics attached to it) trumps all other previous agreements, laws, or ways of doing business.
/rant
I don’t like the idea of electing judges, but I’m not sure how we got such shitty appointed ones either.
Look who’s appointing them.
Selecting judges is important. Unselecting them is even more important.
This is our DEMOCRACY!!! /no really, you can expect them to say that
A judge has ruled that way until the next judge overturns it.
It just really pisses me off that some random judge can say that “safety” (without any metrics attached to it) trumps all other previous agreements, laws, or ways of doing business.

Not gonna save you from the guillotine, lady.
“You want me to speak up? OK. Fuck off. Oh, and “violence” doesn’t mean what you think it means, as you’ll find out if you lay a finger on me.”
Yeah, that’s pretty much the opposite of what that lady did.
She gave the old “But I’m with you!!”
“One bleeding-heart type asked me in a recent interview if I did not agree that ‘violence begets violence.’ I told him that it is my earnest endeavor to see that it does. I would like very much to ensure — and in some cases I have — that any man who offers violence to his fellow citizen begets a whole lot more in return than he can enjoy.” – Colonel Cooper, as usual, right on target.
Look at allllll of those white people. And one of the first-string screamers writes for Deadspin?

To go to the glitzy downtown harbor area from there by the shortest route takes you through that ratfucked neighborhood. You know you’re finally getting out of it when the run down row homes start getting gentrified and fixed up, or torn down and made into yuppie condos. Or, as was the case last time I did that drive, you spot your first white female pedestrian with a Starbucks cup.
Almost the entire city is sketchy like that. You can be in the best neighborhood in town and walk a few blocks and be in a ghetto you should be afraid to walk around in the middle of the day.
The only exception might be Locust Point, because it’s separated from most of the city by being on the other side of the bay and shielded on the other side by Riverside, which is also an upscale neighborhood. Or out where I am where you can actually easy to pretend it’s not even in the city. But there ain’t noting our here except forests and retirees.
You can drive for miles and miles in Baltimore City and look at all the once beautiful row homes, all boarded up.
She has zero chance of winning. I live in her district.
Biden fucking around with the AARP crowd?
Let’s see how that strategy plays out for him…
Right out of Prizzi’s Honor I suspect.
They’ll be grandfathered in. It’s the younger generations that will be screwed.
If they don’t vote Biden, they’re not AARP people!
Stupid neighbor tricks:
Next door neighbor, literally named Karen, asks me a year ago to pay for half of the fence she was gonna build on her side of the property boundary. I more or less politely decline. Don’t see her for the next year. Today, she rings my doorbell, and almost immediately asks me to trim the bushes growing up to hide the utility boxes on our shared boundary. I more or less politely explain that I’ll shape them more when they grow enough to do the sole thing they’re intended to do: hide the FN utility boxes. Go out and trim a few inches off the tallest twigs growing up, “shaping” for minimal compliance.
Now I know exactly who ratted me out to the HOA, twice.
I’m certainly not suggesting anyone should ever do such a thing, but you’d be amazed at how much dry ice expands when sealed with a little water inside a 2-liter soda bottle, inside a mailbox.
I’m thinking more along the lines of learning to shape topiary bushes to spell “Fuck off, Karen.”
Roundup, a little dab will……
kill a Fucking tree if need be….
/Whistles away ……..
Takes a little time. I sprayed a bunch of little aspen, 5-6-8 ft tall. Could hardly see any problem, a month later the whole tree(s) are brown. I’m surprised what a little dab ‘ll do ya. Doesn’t take much
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31-yHovEkLY
This is why I got out of an HOA. People are irrational rat-finks. We had a lady that was calling the HOA because kids were drawing on the sidewalk with–get out your fainting couch–sidewalk chalk. –Eff– that noise.
I’m looking to buy in the Spring. Number one criteria, no HOA, out of the question.
So, boarded up windows and some rat infestation ok?
I think that’s just assumed by what I’m looking for.
I fired a realtor for ignoring my no HOA mandate. No fucking way am I going to subject myself to that shit.
Wife and I talked about it, so she gets it. There are lots of good properties now even in MD without them. All of the newest constructions without them is making me think they are going out of favor.
you’re seeing new construction without HOA? In NoVa that didn’t exist until you got into the 5 acre range, and even then it was hit or miss.
Hell, I lived 5 minutes from willowsford. The HOA there literally owned a stake in your house.
“you’re seeing new construction without HOA?”
Outside of the city, most of them.
Out of state most of them. I’m looking SC mostly though. Maybe FL or AZ, not sure.
And I’m not even looking for 5 acres. I’ll take if it’s there for something I want, but not looking for it, I just want some yard to get outside and garden.
I mean, just think about it. All it takes is one power mad HOA Karen to make your life miserable after you had thought you just bought that new home where you will happily ever after.
I see the flip side. I’ve lived next to neighbors who had one eyesore or another. It’s much more impactful when you’re packed in like sardines, and your neighbor’s misaligned sprinkler hits your patio or (as happened yesterday) you find out a chicken hopped over your fence and dug up your vegetable garden.
Even so, I much prefer the occasional awkward encounter with the neighbor over the busybodies that invariably inhabit the HOA.
I’m not doing the packed in thing. Not interested in McMansion boxes with 2 ft between them.
I have an Indian co-worker who came to talk to me one day. It was the typical ‘hey, you’re an American, you know things here (he has only been here a few years), but he bought a home and it had an HOA. He was totally unsuspecting about what that might mean. And he was just in shock because they would complain to him no matter what he would do. He couldn’t plant a garden in his back yard, him and his wife were just shocked. He sold and bought a house without an HOA. Live and learn.
Why did you buy a house in an HOA if you didn’t want to follow stupid rules?
It’s an amazing house, at a great price. Knew going in cost of doing business was putting up with Karens using the HOA to try to fill the hollow hole that in other people contains a soul. Tradeoffs. Totally worth it.
Fight fire with fire. Read every line of the contract and call every little violation to the attention of the HOA. She parks her car 2″ too far? Email with photographic evidence goes to the HOA. Her kids leave a bike on the sidewalk? picture and email.
I’m in a foul mood because I paid my vehicle tax today. Virginia sucks.
Getting worse every day, yep.
I was amazed when I transferred Title in AZ, 12 Minutes, 157$ for Title, plates, Reg, and 2 year tags,
Never in Cali,
The renewal for my 8-year-old pickup was $565 this year.
? what’s the renewal period? I paid about Yusef for just my renewal for two years, and it’s a ripoff increase from past years. Lying carpetbaggers running the legislature jacked up the rates for their boondoggles.
That’s for this year. Last year it was a few bucks more.
When I moved from Hawaii to Texas, the cost of the annual vehicle registration dropped like 80% – for far better roads. Blue states blow.
Jiminy Cricket. What a racket.
Its 35 a year (42 with all the fees) on my ’99 and ’04 F150s. I think it was Jesse Ventura that stabilized the price of old vehicles.
Mine is an ’02. So not an old vehicle.
*consults calendar for current year*
F me.
I have to register every two years ($$), get emissions tested every two years ($$), “safety inspection” every year ($$), and pay tax every year ($$).
No emissions test in my county. (I did have to pay taxes for my previous county after I finished moving since my new county doesn’t collect retroactive taxes)….
In the late 90s, when I considered moving to Arizona, some folks warned me about car registration fees. At the time, it was a percentage of the car’s value. I winced when I heard some of the numbers.
It was a low-ranking factor in my decision to not go to Arizona.
I heard that later the state came to its senses and made registration fees flat and relatively cheap.
Very. cheap.
Yeah, but we have such great roads in California thanks to our high fees.
*nods knowingly while reflecting on the $250 I paid to title and register 2 cars and get 2 new licenses here in TX*

Completely OT, but question for the HVAC expert- Is Evap Foam any good for cleaning coils? Or just gentle pressure wash alone? Getting ready to shut down for the season and saw it on Amazon.
Interior, only if your are rinsing with water after, think coil cleaner smell,
Outdoors, go for either, coil Cleaner is a Desurficant, it always helps
Thank you! It’s a window unit, so just cleaning external ones of the dust/pollen/ insects before putting it away. In the past, just washed with water alone.
Wow, changing the graphic in mid-stream, SMDH.
“Get ready for more of this: Biden proposes slashing 401(k) tax incentives. Next up: caps on total money in retirement accounts”
Well, you know how much money they need for free healthcare, free college, free rent, and reparations only? That’s not counting the Green New Deal.
The democrats will tax you to death and steal the pennies from your dead eyes, and it still will not be enough.
Gov. Carpetbagger Cunt respond’s to Trump’s laserpointer antics.

Good work, jackass. The Trump campaign should be reporting your in-kind donation to their efforts. If I didn’t live in the state, I’d be cheering you on.
She has the National Guard fielding unemployment calls?
https://www.myoregon.gov/2020/06/11/national-guard-serves-unemployed-oregonians/
*snicker*
Basically, the state fucked up yet another system upgrade/replacement project for the employment department. System and department became overloaded under the volume of applications and then the follow up calls for assistance or checking the status of claims/missing payments/etc.
PUAs get benefits? Incels get shafted once again.
I thought not getting shafted was what incels were all about. ??
“I have my own political theater to promote, thank you very much.”
Unemployment calls?! WTF?
20th Century tech………..
I don’t care about “cracking skulls” of rioters so much as prosecuting politicians who refuse to protect peoples property rights.

They’re just too aggressive. Full. Stop.
On a related note, where do y’all the Russians and the Chinese will eventually partition the US, at the Rocky Mountains or the Mississippi River?
Really? EMP doesn’t effect Gun Powder, to Nuke us is to Nuke themselves, they don’t need any more problems, and the Russians will sit back and watch,
Wolverines!
times 300,000,000
Makes me wonder how much ammo We citizens actually have at hand, in stock as it were? a Trillion rounds?
I have gamed the Chinese invasion, even if they managed to land a Division, they have to get past the Gangs, then the Desert, then AZ, too many armed Citizens,
Nukes?
^^ Plus you will see suicide bombings, and super radical reactions. Research has shown that the more distinct two fighting forces are, the more likely such tactics will be used.
*throws whiskey on fire*
?
Saw that at the NY Post last week. Too stupid to touch it.
You feel intimidated by punctuation? PUNCTUATION?!? FUCK YOU, FUCKER.

My three favorite things are eating my family and commas!
FUCK! Supposed to be “eating my family and not using commas.”

So they really are into William Faulkner?
First it was “Me and him” instead of “He and I”, then the demise of the adverb, and now this. We’re doomed.
Bonus points for pointing out the small grammar mistake above, at least according to U.S. convention. I know better, but it just doesn’t look right to me to do it the “correct” way. Maybe I’m closet British.
US convention is wrong.
LOL
You think the Russians and Chinese are stronger than us? They don’t tolerate the sjw types, but the bureaucrat/technocrat/crony types run both countries with an iron fist, and while they don’t spout the kumbaya nonsense of the sjws they are every bit as useless at actually accomplishing anything.
I pulled the motor and transmission out of my Honda. The tranny is getting a little noisy/whiny. It’s only got 300,000 miles on it, but I think I’ll go ahead and replace some bearings, anyway. That’s how I roll. The bad news; there’s about 3/16″ of nasty crud all over it. Oil mixed with the talcum powder dust from the road. It’ll probably take me all day tomorrow to get it clean enough to pull part.
I think my next home will be on a paved road.
Is your girlfriend whining about the grease on your hands, or about the expense of the repair?
Looks like the Rooskies have declassified some Tsar Bomba footage.

Pretty impressive…
I have seen other views, this one was cool, Humans are fucking nuts.
I spent another day in the hospital.
I was fine at 7:50 this morning. Then I went to my already scheduled 11am doc appointment. Cognitive function was very off. Memory loss was extreme. Gait was shanky. I couldn’t answer what day it was or where I was. I could move from A to B and get there, but you wouldn’t have drafted me to be on your Little League team.
Then from 1pm-3pm I made some sort of recovery. I feel just fine now. I’m not sure why I simply go back and forth a few times a week.
I actually know exactly why it happens, but that’s for me. It’s not the easiest existence. But it’s mine for now, and I always make sure I do my best, keep my chin up, and focus on the positive.
Lots of pre-planned appointments this month as is. Has one yesterday and two more on Friday. Yay, I actually have a job appointment this Saturday as well. I have all the support in the world and plenty, if not most, have it better than I do. It does frequently get annoying. Today should go well from here on out. I’ll make it my business so that it does. I have two days of recovery time before my busy Friday and Saturday. Lady just got back to Korea and has to do another quarantine there. I think that would actually be good for me.
Sorry for the rant. Jut wanted to get it off my chest and focus on the positive.
I worry about you, man. Hope these episodes stop happening!
Sorry.
Prolefeed’s law: If you don’t know what the fuck you’re doing, your best option is doing nothing.
Corollary: The people who don’t know what the fuck they’re doing, usually think they know what they’re doing.
Well put. I was reminded of this when, in the early days of the Kung Flu, someone pointed out that the Director of Public Health for Los Angeles was a woman who wasn’t actually a medical doctor. She simply happened to have a doctorate (in some fluffy fuzzy social science). That got me to thinking that, when she was appointed, it was probably based on her goodthinking social credentials and not on her actual ability to respond to an outbreak of infectious disease.
And hey, I figured, if I was in her shoes, I’d think, “What’s the worst that could happen? We don’t have outbreaks anymore; the worst diseases are eradicated, and/or (mostly) everyone is vaccinated! I’ll take that sweet sweet taxpayer funded paycheck, thank-you-very-much!”
And then an outbreak of infectious disease happened. So what would I do I her shoes? Well if I was a shameless grifter trying to protect my phoney baloney job, I’d get Very Serious and take the most restrictive measures possible to make it look like I knew what I was doing, even though I am clearly out of my depth.
And then I wondered how many other places that happened in the U.S.
“Director of Public Health”
Those people are the queen Karens of Karens.
It’s not “public health”, it’s “government health”.
NYC says “hi!” Our public health person was above all concerned about racial bean-counting. She “resigned” recently after saying “I don’t give a fuck about the cops” (and that’s a nearly literal quote).
“Dr” Tedros at WHO isn’t an MD. Our state epidemiologist is a pediatrician.
If you don’t know what the fuck you’re doing, your best option is doing nothing.
Yes, what happened to “do no harm”?
Well, you have to give credit to politicians part of the time. They do nothing when they actually should do something, and always do something when they shouldn’t.
Eliminate 90% of laws on the books and send them all home to get real jobs. That’s our only hope.
So, gardening question. I’ve got a few big bags of hardwood chips on the back patio that the last owner left. If I want to prep some planters out back for use next year…would it make sense to dig up the weeds and “plow” the planters and then spread chips over top for the next 6-7 months, or are they mostly just used for placing around the base of shrubs, etc? Assuming we don’t get more rain, I do need to get outside tomorrow afternoon and start “editing” a few of the bushes and shrubs on the side of the house.
I am getting excited about maybe trying to grow a few vegetables next year – and maybe planting a couple shade trees out back too. We’ll see if that sticks.
Not sure why you would want to use the chips now? Save them for later use after you plant your shrubs.
I’m have a good gardening year, yesterday I gave away 15 gallons of cukes, some were really big, they hide under the foliage and if I miss them in 2-3 days they are giants. Mrs F has canned 60 quarts of cuke pickles, 15 of beet pickles, busy making tomato sauce and freezing it. Watermelons are getting ripe, which is a real feat in Central MN.
Had some roofers working today, gave them a 5 gal bucket of cukes/tomatoes/crab apples/jalapenos and a watermelon, they were happy campers, eating while working on the roof. Now have a 50 year steel roof on my house. I’m ready.
I love to garden, see stuff grow, I’d do it even if I gave everything away. As it is we’re eating fresh for about 6 weeks.
Gardening is for gays.
I bet you do…
Not giving any fresh stuff to Bro. He’s a meanie
/Picks corn, eggplant and a bell pepper for dinner
You have to forgive Broketard, he don’t eat plants, he’s a meat eater, he only eats dick.
Are you talking about raised beds? I mean, you’re saying planters, but that’s what I assume you mean?
They must be big ones if you’re going to plow them.
But one thing I can tell you is never plow weeds under, you’ll get a lot more. I know you say you’re pulling them, but did they go to seed?
“Plow” using a little hand trowel. Basically just dig up all the crap and turn it over. Might hose the dirt down with roundup too for the hell of it.
Never turn weeds over in your garden if you think there’s any chance they’ve went to seed. If you do that, you’ll never get rid of them. Just pull them when you see them and keep them out before they’ve gone to seed.
Are you talking raised beds of planters, like pots?
Movie theaters are finally opening (nature is healing).
Going to try heading down to the Alamo Cville (2 hrs each way on a weeknight but should be worth it) on Thursday after work to watch “Peninsula” (korean zombie flick – sequel to “Train to Busan”).
Then Friday night, I’ll try a more “local” theater for “David Copperfield” (dir by Ianucci – “Death of Stalin”, “Veep”, “The Thick of It”, “In the Loop”, etc). Looks pretty fun too.
If you’ve got an alamo near you, they’ve got a ton of good stuff playing currently – including starting the Bill and Ted flick a week early. Hoping to catch a few more for Labor Day weekend. (may also try the Woodbridge Alamo – never been there).

“But these are not normal times. Last week, we published an interview with scientific experts”
Not just experts, scientific experts who scienced their way to sciency opinions.
Scroll down a little:
Been saying this for a while. You want schools shut down? Shut it the fuck down, forever! The kids will stop learning to be little Marxist idiots!
Are you people aware of the difference between you and the former aspiring tyrants, like Hitler, Mao, and Stalin? Those guys were smart, you’re fucking stupid, dumber than a box of fucking rocks!
A month ago I took the whole families to see Goonies in a Cinemark. Total cost: $3.15. There were about two other families there. It was awesome.
Local theaters only just opened last weekend and the one I really want to visit in Fredericksburg only has screenings Fri-Sun (WTF?). Regal and Alamo have screenings every day though.
I live in Plano, Tx and Cimemark has been open for quite some time. They have no exclusivity right now, though, so nothing to show but classics.
When’s the next North TX Glib meetup?
i’m waiting for a glib to open up a speakeasy.
It aint healed yet. Creepy Joe says he will lock down the entire nation at the drop of a hat.
If those fuckers win we are in deep shit.
Whyfore you hate science bruh?
Meh.
Let’s see. Fires up Quicken. Searches “Cinema”. Last visit to a theater, 4/13/2016. Deadpool. They can stay closed for all I care. Turn them into brothels/opium dens, and maybe I’ll return.
A successor to a Worthy Cause.
Dale is an illustrator who backed the wrong candidate in 2016 and has been paying for it ever since.
Oh yeah? Paying in what way?
I guess he did create a game called ‘virtue signal’ so there he is virtue signaling.
The “Virtue Signal” game parodies the left. It’s brilliant.
The expansion parodies the right.
Red Pilled?
Now learn now to actually use self defense and weapons, dummies. I mean you know, weapons that actually work and are loaded? Those are much more effective.
And some physical barriers from the semi-private street to your home.
One of the nice things about having a 1000-foot driveway and having state forest on the other sides of the property.
We live on a semi-rural property. I’ve been thinking more and more about how to harden it from incursion. Unfortunately, the property itself is odd shaped so fencing would reveal how close the boundaries are (neighbors also keep the edges wooded and relatively overgrown).
I had a 400 ft driveway in my house I sold last year. I could see anyone coming a mile away.
Not sure what my new house will be like, but I’ll figure out the home defense thing as a matter of first order.
Those 2 were just clueless, hopefully their new friends can help them out.
They have guts, I’ll give them that. It wouldn’t occur to me to face the mob with unloaded weapons.
I won’t play poker against either of them.
I wouldn’t do that. If you can’t defend yourself at least stay inside. Or if you’re a bleeding heart liberal and don’t want to hurt them, go upstairs and rain pepper balls down on their face or something. Maybe boiling cauldrons of flaming oil and then let the Mastiffs loose?
If they broke my gate, I’d already want to shoot them in the face.
I hate working with people. Test equipment and test procedures exist for a reason, people. If you don’t want to use them, don’t come crying to me to help you short circuit the steps and cowboy your way to a resolution.
I hate working with people, too. I hate…. everyone.
But I did just count over a million board feet of lumber in a dusty lumber yard in 100 degree heat in Denver, CO. Those guys were pretty cool.
Drinking a beer at the airport. Covered in dirt n sawdust.
“I hate working with people.”
That’s the worst part of working.
Gavin Newsom Assures Californians Wildfires Are ‘Mostly Peaceful’
LOL.
What happened to all the personal sacrifice our dear great leaders have been talking about? What about putting the fires out with Newsom’s hair? Many woke, much brave.
