I remember when I was a little girl going outside on a summer day and jumping rope with my girlfriends. A single rope or double Dutch, it didn’t matter because it was good fun and good exercise. Wait a minute… *checks pants* that wasn’t me. Did I get caught in one of OMWC’s daydreams?
For those of us still locked out of our gyms, being able to get some equipment is no mean feat. A few weeks ago, I said I was buying kettlebells. I was a rube. I found some in stock. Between saying I was going to buy them and, you know, actually getting online to buy them they disappeared. Since then, I can only find weights that are too light or too heavy.
One item still readily available is the jump rope. This lightweight, inexpensive, easy to use piece of equipment can give you quite a workout. It requires very little room and can be as simple or complex as you want it to be.
Everyone has seen boxers jumping rope. It’s straightforward, burns a ton of calories, and can be done for extended periods of time. If you want to do the equivalent of sprints, then try the double under. I finish some workouts by doing a bunch of these. I stink at them but good doG they will get your heart pumping. If you want to show off do the Side Swipe. I have never tried this but having found the video I’ll give it a try.
There’s something weird about this exercise in that it looks so easy. I thought so until I started jumping. It’s great exercise.

And now it’s time for little more ranting about California’s coronavirus response. My idiot governor just gave us a color-coded chart. This reminds me of Bush’s terrorism threat chart but dumber. If there is any scientific (sorry, SCIENTIFIC!!!) theory underlying this chart it is being kept under wraps.
As Hayeksplosives mentioned in a comment, the governor has a tell. He says, “We don’t put up green because we don’t believe that there’s a green light that says just go back to the way things were or back to the pre-pandemic mindset,” Newsom explained. “Quite the contrary. These are the guidelines, the color-coded county guidelines that we’re putting forward to get us through this flu season and…work through the next few months in the state of California.”
He believes. No one cares what he believes. His beliefs don’t determine actual biology or, you know, how a virus spreads and ultimately burns itself out.
I don’t know who I hate more: our governor or the people who think he is doing a good job.
This week’s music choice is obvious. This one is for you Gavin.
Several years ago, i got a jump rope to work out with when i was living in a tiny apartment. I learned that i am not that coordinated. I can do a basic hop but anything else?
You stopped when your downstairs neighbors fired warning shots through their ceiling?
Heh. I’d do it in our small parking lot.
I was just terrible when I started. With a lot of practice, I’ve gotten up to mediocre.
That describes most things I do.
What a day to be alive………………
To help you pass the time while jumping, in case your headphones/earphones won’t stay on/in while you’re hopping up and down. And it’s been FACT CHECKED by an RN/BSN!!! SCIENCE!!!!
Not sure how you can not pick this?
Anything involving jumping I go through 3 phases
1) that looks too easy, but whatever, I’ll try it
2) I fucking hate this exercise
3) Let’s do this all the time, and make others do it too!
I would have picked this.
You’re all slackers.
Either this or this one. Both in heavy rotation in my current listening.
One of us put in the effort to write an article.
You go girl. Wait a minute… *checks pants*
Well?
This RIGHT HERE is the quintessential song for low life Newsom. Fight me if you want, but I’m right. Also, it’s one of Skynyrd’s best songs. Again, I will win.
Lyrics:
Well he walks so tall to be so small
Never met a man who’s stranger
He lives his life for a dollar sign
And to deal with him is dangerous
He knocked me down but I’m on my feet
Now I’m so much wiser
I’d rather quit and go back home
Than to deal with the money miser
Let’s cry for this bad man
I sing a song for the bad man
Well, you treat me right baby, I’ll treat you right
That’s the way it’s supposed to be
I put my faith down in my friend
And he almost put an end to me
Well I work seven days a week
Eight when I am able
When you take money from me you take food from my mama’s table
Let’s cry for this bad man
I wrote a song for the bad man
Oh baby you know who you are
Let’s cry for this bad man
I wrote a song for the bad man way down in Georgia
Well, you treat me…
Source: LyricFind
See, winning!!!!
Ooops, there’s more:
Well, you treat me right baby, I’ll treat you right
That’s the way it’s supposed to be
I put my faith down in my friend
And he almost put an end to me
Well, when you take my money baby when you hurt my family
I go walkin’ through the swamps without no shoes
Step on a snake it scares you
Let’s cry for this bad man
I wrote a song for the bad man br>oh let’s cry for this bad man
I wrote a song for the bad man
Oh baby straight to you
He’s so bad, so bad
Are we just avoiding the super obvious choice?
The 3% seroprevalence benchmark required for a loosening of rules is apparently not actually ever gonna be possible unless testing stops. Meanwhile my favorite local restaurant shuttered its doors last night. Couldn’t make a profit under the restrictions. Nice job guys.
Anyhow, my gym opened up with restrictions on Thursday. You’re supposed to wear your mask at all times, but the local health rule is if you feel “significant exertion” you can take it off. Well, if I have a 200 pound barbell laying on my chest, that’s “significant exertion” to me. So mask off during sets, back on while resting. Which, of course, means constant touching of the mask.
Training schedule until I plateau: Mon = Legs, Tue = Upper body, Wed = 30 min run, Thurs = Legs, Fri = Upper, Sat = Hike, Sun = Rest. I did so much running and improved my cardio capacity so much, I’d like to at least hold onto that.
We’re hoping our favorite restaurants can hold on, but I’m not counting on it. If I hadn’t already been in the “I hate all politicians” camp, I sure would be now.
Our favorite place is tiny and has no place for the outdoor dining nonsense. I hope they’ll be back.
Yeah, but you’ll still have all those great corporate chain restaurants serving the same old processed crap. ??
I’ll just stay home and eat Mrs. T’s goodies. Tonight’s (early) birthday dinner is French beef stew, aka Beef Bourguignonne
Yum! I love that dish. And Happy Birthday!
We don’t actually eat at corporate chain restaurants. We can ALWAYS make whatever we want much better at home.
Chains are big enough to lobby and make campaign contributions.
Thanks!
ALWAYS make whatever we want much better at home. <Yep.
I hate sit-down restaurant chains. I remember asking my wife if she could make prime rib so I don't have to go to Longhorn anymore. The look I got made me slink off to my room. That was a decade ago. Now it's just a matter of free time and energy. We still do Chinese/Sushi, Pizza, and Taco Mac, but that's about it. I'd rather scrounge than eat at Corporate Restaurant.
I’m very jealous you can get into your gym.
I wanna hear from all the shit-weasels that made claims back in March that it is only 14-30 days to shutter and if you can’t do that you are a crappy buisness owner…
So do I but I’m not holding my breath.
I’ve been doing “personal training” at my gym for a few weeks. Basically the owner has been letting people he trusts for a couple hours each afternoon. Went every day last week alternating between heavy lift days and cardio days. Felt great.
Tomorrow gyms officially open in NJ with a bunch of impossible rules. The owner will ignore the “equipment 6 feet apart” rule as he doesn’t want to throw out half his stuff. He’ll post mask signs then make no attempt to enforce just to cover his ass. I’ll see who shows up and how crazy this gets.
He’s a brave guy, are you in a sane part of NJ?
Yes – Warren County. He’s convinced they’ll get shutdown again in a few weeks. If his landlord had not let him slide on rent during the shutdown, he’d already be out of business.
Sorry Chafed. My idiot gov is wrapped up with the positive test percentage as some sort of measure as well. It’s just downright stupid and really doesn’t tell anything. Just look at it from the other perspective- percentage of negative test results. What is the cause? It’s either nonsymptomatic people being tested (because of suspect exposure, need for screening, or something else), symptomatic people with causes other than sars-cov-2, or false negatives.
Of that, causes by other that sars-cov-2 has been the largest category since this started. That would be flu, common cold, allergies, environmental causes, or other illnesses and reactions. Gee, what happens when seasonal flu/colds/seasonal allergies decrease as normal? People stop having symptoms and reactions. So they don’t get tested. It’s just retarded. Except at the very height of spread in certain locals, the majority and usually the vast overwhelming majority of tests still remain negative. 5% to 10% sounds like a lot. 95% negative to 90% sounds like the opposite.
I read some CDC data analysis. Of the 160K US deaths due to ‘Vid–> only 10K had the virus as single cause of death. The ave number of co-morbidity was 2.6 issues along with the virus for the remaining 150K. All this data is shit but if that is close to being true..WTF.
Reposting from last Thread:
The official “What Kind of Libertarian are you?” Quiz. Take it, it’s results are final and true.
Also, i can see what names you guys are giving, and you haven’t dissapointed.
“Fuck of Slaver” has taken this quiz quite a lot.
I told you I’m not helping you collect data.
I deliberately chose all the the worst choices and the result was “Left Libertarian”.
*applies palm of hand to forehead and emits audible sigh*
Okay I did a serious one and got Glibertarian.
That gives me the warm and fuzzies, except the thing about the forest. Helicopters don’t lurk in the forest, they lurk just above it.
I didn’t lie and got labeled a Glib.
I’m guessing to get One True Libertarian you have to stick rigidly to absolutist an-cap answers. I’m happy being a glib.
One true libertarian is like the highlander. You have to kill any challengers. There can be only one.
Princes of the Universe.
Does that mean we could bring back duels to the death? Because I think that would fix a lot o this stupid we seem to have going around.
We even had Gretchen Whitmer take it folks. This is a Legit Thing.
Ignoring the fact that she is a mendacious, tyrannical banshee, is she a “would” for anyone here? She’s not completely unappealing to the eye, from what I’ve seen.
She has the same problem AOC has, the insanity leaking out of their orbital sockets is not appealing. But given my lists of ‘dids’ she meets and exceeds the standard
She’s attractive, but with kind of an evil look. If she was playing a Palpatine type in a movie, when she turned out to be the back stabbing tyrant instead of a good guy people would say “I saw that coming the whole time!”
Like AOC she needs sorting in her holster to keep the words from leaking out.
Something
I guess in a hardcore femdom “Gretchen of the SS” sort of way I can see how some people might be into that, but it’s not really my thing.
Glibertarian.
I got 66% Glibertarian. Did I pass the purity test?
Nope.
I’ve been saving this story for you Chafed, work out through the whole thing if you really want to push it.
Got some spin classes in this weekend, and got a new max wattage (1,119 watts). I can at least start up a microwave even if I can’t make a dinner in it yet. The weight trend line is starting to bend back down, which is the goal. I’ve lost my targets for my long distance bike rides as both breweries in Willoughby are now closed (and any rest stops/water fountains are still shut down anyways). I have finally heard a reason for why the parks shut down the restrooms and put portapotties outside them. If they left the restrooms open, they would need to have an hourly cleaning schedule, but the portapotties are exempt from that. SCIENCE!
Thanks Neph.
Alternative GlibFit music for me because I’m not into the Sex Pistols. Sure, it’s not to everyone’s taste, but does your sweet electric guitar turn into a Lamborghini?
Earlier this week I posted about a mystery lower back situation. I’ve been up and about as usual and it’s slowly improving. Only a little stiff today.
That was awful. Ted’S level awful. Hang your head in shame.

What is it with cooks and tattoos?
Everyone has tattoos now. The most counter-cultural, totally radical and iconoclastic thing you can do in Western society these days is be completely devoid of ink. People will be like “whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?”
Untrue. I am the least radical and iconoclastic person I know, and I have no ink.
Ink is ugly.
Ink can be ugly, it can also be done well.
I’m usually considered underdressed at Viva since I have no ink. A fear of needles at least prevented me from making some regrettable decisions when I was younger.
I have yet to see any ink that didn’t make people look worse.
Whoa. This dude is totally out there.
Extremist, even.
DHS and FBI aware.
My wife is on that list. No ink. No social media.
I got all of my tattoos when I was 17 y/o. It was kind of a FU to the system. Back then, lots of tattoos (especially in all blackwork) meant you were an outlaw. I was an outlaw, but not a criminal. I paid a huge price for my tattoos. Huge. Haven’t had an ink needle near me in about 40 years. At least the goofy people made them mean less.
I am – and intend to remain – utterly inkless. Heck, I was thirty before I got my ears pierced.
I think it’s a tribal thing. Same with sports figures.

By an interesting coincidence, I also bought a jump rope (MS-1 mil spec) this week. It’s made out of metal, so not sissy or girly at all.
Metal Jump Rope – that’s a decent band name
I am also terrible at it, but will keep trying. It’s nice to have an exercise device that’s cheap and portable. There are some covered areas I could exercise in for when it rains as well.
Alas, I fell off the wagon this week, though I drank about the same overall as the week before. Try, try again.

Oh, how I laughed.
? That’s incredible.
How can that be only mostly true? Seems like a binary thing.
Because Snopes, I guess.
So very much agree.
Well, web sites change a lot, and so it may be binary at any given moment in time, but it can change, as Snopes mentioned. Right now it’s not loading at all for me.
Frankly, I was surprised they gave it a “mostly true,” considering how they have labeled some pretty black and white things “mixed.”
I’ve been reading about the May Revolution in Argentina (the beginning of the Spanish American Wars of Independence), and found this bit, written about it only a decade later, that made me lough. TOP MEN has always been a thing.
Which roughly translates to:
The change of institutions in Buenos Aires did not destroy, despite being curt: and if those who were empowered with the fate of the country, had stayed on the path indicated by the vote of those who commissioned them, many tears would have been saved, and the anniversary of that great National Day would always be celebrated with equal enthusiasm.
I’m on Day 28 of my 100 day experiment with total plant-based eating to alleviate a health issue. Still doing well, with no deviation. (Oh, get your minds out of the gutter!)
Over the last week I had a pretty good result with a plant-based “mozzarella” made from a base of homemade plant-based yogurt (yogurt made in the multi-cooker, insanely easy and cheap!). It was actually cultured, as a real cheese would be. It definitely hit that pizza jones. Even OMWC pronounced it the Idea of Pizza. 😉
I’d never serve it to guests (except WebDom), obviously, and it didn’t make me think of NEVER having real pizza again, but it was satisfactory for the amount of work and cost of ingredients involved. It might enable me to keep this up much longer term. I have some other cheeses from the same cookbook in the works.
I’ve already decreased one of my meds to half of the pre-plant-based dosage. Enough motivation to keep pressing onward to Day 100!
Congrats! Any day you can cut down on meds is a good day.
That is indeed fantastic news about the meds reduction. Upon what plant is this yogurt based?
I used Westsoy non-additive soy milk. It seems to give the best results. I had earlier tried it with a regular fortified soy milk and that was a non-starter. So to speak. (I crack myself up!)
I purchased some vegan yogurt starter for the first batch, but can now just keep it going from a couple tablespoons of the stuff I made. I don’t like yogurt, but in things like this “cheese” it’s fine. Also, because I made it, I can control the level of tang.
?
Great news!
That’s great news SP.
That’s great news, Mrs. With Candy. Pizza is a rare treat now I’m low carbs. Some homemade cashew nacho cheese or occasionaly some shop bought “cheese” now there’s plant-based foods in every supermarket, but when I used to make pizza more often it would be pizza rossa, fresh spinach and basil. I’ll have to try making this “mozzarella”.
In case you didn’t see my comment before, watch out for the anti-nutrient that is phytic acid. Sorry to be dour, SP.
Indeed, I am very aware of most nutrition and biochem stuff. That’s why I track nutrients very completely. I have a couple micronutrients that need to be within a narrow range, and that’s the only way I can come at all close to ensuring that they are.
Congratulations… and sorry I posted a carnivore recipe link. 🙂
What is plant-based yogurt made of?
Only soy milk and yogurt cultures.
HI Chafed, How is the back? I hope it is fully mended and pain free.
I can’t jump rope–because I am dyslectic or something. They finally reopened the parks here in NOCal on Thursday. I really think they closed them because it was smokey –the nanny-ist of reasons to close. Thanks to the parks closure, I didn’t get the my daily smoke so I had a couple of cigars instead. Hit the trails the last 3 days. Today we did a summit trail. 8 miles, 1860 ft of climb. Starting temp of 55 and ending temp 83. Combination of cigars, extra miles and temp change made for a challenging hike.
Still doing the band training. I started doing more reps. 25-50 rep under constant load and starting to see and feel improvement. Chest has tightened up (maybe from the cigars). Noticing other improvements as well. I find doing the exercises during conference calls the best workout; since a number of my projects are getting pretty sporty.
I watched the Eco-challenge on Netflix. I loved that show and this season did not disappoint; although they did play up a guy with dementia who was a competitor. It kind of made me think of Joe riding his bike. 500+ km of hiking and paddling in Fiji. We should set-up a team for next year–Team Glibfit.
Have a great week!
Thanks IRBE. I’m just a little stiff but nearly fully recovered.

Sorry to go OT, but how do you react when they bang on your door, claiming to be the police, but they are civilians?
asking for a concerned friend,
Is there a window from which the stoop may be observed without notice from the outside? I’m a big fan of not being home for unexpected visitors, regardless of their pronouncements.

We never answer the door. Even when I am expecting people I want to see, I check my cameras before opening the door, because you never know.
Ask to see a badge and that you are calling the cops to confirm who they are.
I have a port thingy in the door, but if i ask, they know I’m right there and can kick the door right in on me,
Paranoid? no, Shit might be going down real soon, and I may have to bail quickly,
Never cross the Yakuza, Yusef.
even worse, Vagos, why I might just bail,
Eep!
If they’re real police, and it’s of import to them, they’ll come in anyway. If it were me, I would be hiding someplace with hard cover, a clear LOS to the door, and a scattergun. Also a phone at the ready so as to photograph them as they leave.
This, thanks
A steel security door in a pre-hung frame is only around $500 at Home Depot, about the same price as any other decent exterior door (just uglier). Screw the frame into your studs with 3″ deck screws. You can let them try to kick it in, then laugh while they’re crawling away with a broken ankle.

Speaking of Mrs. Frankelson and I are looking to start a home defense setup, I am looking to buy a blunderbuss, squirrel gun (preferably an AR platform but open to others), and a hand cannon of some variety. I am shopping for scatterguns as we speak, I would love to get a Benelli M4 but I do not have Benelli money ATM and I have handled and shot a Mossberg 500 aka an M500 with a breaching muzzle, I have been looking a Mossbergs pretty hard. Anyhow, does anyone have a suggestion for a tactical 12Ga shotgun with a collapsing stock and at least five-round capacity, 3″ chamber, pump or semi action?
You want the collapsible stock so you can adjust the length of pull for yourself and Mrs. Frankelson?
I have a Mossberg 590. You can swap out the stock for whatever you want. It otherwise meets all your needs.
You are under no obligation to answer the door.
Do have a shotgun to rack a round into?
I have the pleasure to borrow a Mossberg 590, upgraded as fuck, and a shit load of PDX ammo, not counting target loads,

Oops, I thought you said scheisse.
These days you can get fairly cheap and reliable doorbell and other type of wired and wireless cams that will give you a good view of whoever is at your door day or night.
Rule #1 is: Never open a door without knowing who is on the other side of it.
The way you do this, is down to your own circumstances. Spyhole, cameras, just never opening the door, whatever. But rule #1 is rule #1 for good reason.
To much laughter from Neph and Hype last night I said I am ordered to do nothing for a week for reasons I will not get into here. I plan on drinking too much and not working out by doctors orders.
Motivation for the rest of you because people are awesome.
Dr. Feelgoid?
He did not specifically say to drink to much but he also did not say not to.

Lovely stuff. Every time I see avocado oil in the supermarket I flinch at the price. It may be more expensive on this side of the Atlantic. Is it worth it?
So, what’s the main dish?
I’m meal prepping for the week. Mains will include roast pork, steak, and left over bbq.

Newsom is scumbag of the first order. I knew this when he was the mayor and now his hard core dictator side has come out that he had the chance. He is not allowing schools to open. This week we removed our three young boys from their (Catholic) school because it doesn’t look like they are going to be allowed to open anytime soon due to Greasy Gav. My wife was really upset that our youngest didn’t get to start kindergarten a couple weeks back and has been getting driven slowly crazy by the Zoom lessons. She has been on unpaid leave now for months. This isn’t going to be easy, but we are now homeschooling our kids. Any of the Glibs out there that are doing it and have found resources that they particularly like, I would love to hear recommendations from. I may ask a few more times to catch those that are in the same boat or have been doing it for a while.
And yes, getting good equipment has been a major pain in the ass, but I’m hoping the last piece I need to be able to lift heavy weight, a rack, will arrive in the next couple weeks.
Sorry to hear it. I’m surprised they’re cancelling private schools- the ones here are open for the most part.
I’ll be praying for you and your family, I often hear that the zoom classes for young kids are especially painful- it might be hard, but I think you’re doing the right thing. Sadly I don’t have any insight to help.
My nephew is in the same boat and similar age. It sounds like it works with a couple of kids for a short amount of time, but falls apart for a class size. I think it goes to the failing of modern public education that kids need formalized regimented schooling at earlier and earlier age rather than (mostly physical and tactile) play time. Zoom classes are little more than watching tv and most kids already get too much of that.
To continue shitting on Zoom, we started using at work in the before times for reducing training costs, and it was godawful. Way too easy to get distracted, interrupted, and not enough feedback to the instructor like in a traditional classroom setting. But it was cheaper.
He’s a bad, bad man.
I homeschooled my kids (because of a lack of quality education where we lived at the time). For basic cultural literacy, I liked the What Your whatever-grader Needs to Know series by E. D. Hirsch. Here’s the kindergarten book.
My kids know stuff about the world that most of their contemporaries simply don’t.
My oldest granddaughter is reaching kindergartner age. I’ll pass that on to my step-daughter, who is doing home-schooling. Thanks!
Don’t know much about it, but Ron Paul has a home-school thing that Tom Woods has a lot to do with.
We homeschool our kids but my wife creates her own lesson plans. She start with the state SOLs as a base and then expands from there along with cutting out any SJW crap.
For civics/early economics, highly recommend Tuttle Twins. I ordered the full set after another Glib recommended.
https://tuttletwins.com/
I love the twins
Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice and good words. This thing has really been a shitstorm, and I am at least fortunate that it has only screwed up one of our employments. I know some people that I do work for that will be utterly financially ruined by the state shutdowns. This place has been awesome and a lone light of sanity, humor and sense in a very messed up time. Thanks again.
The zoom lessons suck ass. Mega connectivity problems and no way to make sense of what needs to be learned. Gotta wonder how chaotic the lessons were at actual school when we never got a glance at it. My wife is doing the school part now that I’m back at work and she’s struggling pretty hard with it. I would take VC time to protest the school closures right fucking now, if It would make any difference. Fucking Governor fits right in with the other failures we’ve had in office here. Douche.
For the two older boys (7 and 9) the zoom lessons suck for the reasons you mentioned, for the kindergartener it is not doable in any way. Kids that young don’t have the attention span. It is child abuse to put them through it. We slogged through it for the 2.5 months of last school year and we were hopeful that school would get to start up here in September, but at this point I can’t see it happening till January and I wouldn’t be surprised if it lasted the year. We ain’t getting a working scone soon and that seems to be the holy grail that Greaseball seeks. Words don’t do justice.
I don’t do it myself, but I know Bethany Mandel (@bethanyshondark, Seth Mandel’s wife) has a bunch of resources for homeschool since she homeschools their kids. Her videos are from a Jewish perspective, but she follows the Charlotte Mason homeschool curriculum and talks about other more general resources, too.
Also, check NextDoor, etc, for local groups to join.
oh yes, full agreement about Newsom. His stupid color-coded plan is basically guaranteed to never get out of red, because if you only taste the symptomatic, the % positive increases, but if you throw the test too wide then false positives will always be over the threshold. lose-lose Cali. God he needs booting.
Well, they all do, don’t they. You want a revolution, lefties? Guess what? You might get one, keeping up with this shit.
Thanks OTA, I will! The Catholic thing was only because we didn’t want to subject them to the progressive religion at public school. We are both pretty agnostic.
I’m pleased for Glibs who are doing the homeschool thing now. Much regulatory progress has been made, even though it might not feel that it has for parents new to the whole thing.
My kids are 34 and 29. When I started down that path it was a major, on-going fight with the State of New York Department of Education and the local school board. Obviously, I prevailed, but it was dicey there for a while.
Thanks SP. I’ve checked out the state requirements and surprisingly for the state that loves to overregulate everything they don’t look terribly onerous. I know it had generally gotten easier to homeschool in most of the country over the last decades. Hopefully one positive out of the shitshow will be less reliance on public education.
You might want to check out HSLDA.org
https://hslda.org/
If you’re a member, they provide full legal protection. Even if it extends outside direct homeschooling (several cases of CPS being sicced on homeschooling families that they’ve stepped up to protect). We bought a lifetime family membership. It’s religious-based, but they are steadfast that the right to home school is for everyone.
Thanks SSD, will do!
We had a bit of trouble finding a science curriculum that was not Adam Riding Dinosaurs in the Garden of Eden but we ended up doing a bunch of the monthly science kit subscriptions which was way more fun for everyone. Anyhow. my recommendation would be to look into Math-U-See, they have DVDs with an awkwardly charming fellow who was effective with my girls if you want, the thing that I liked is it is mastery-based, e.g. the student works on one particular skill until they have it down pat vs. the public school spiral method, in which they rotate through a number of topics covering individual skills intermittently.
I’m feeling your pain with my youngest. She’s a HS freshman. The zoom classes are 2 hours each. She finished her first week. She’s already telling me she’s losing focus after an hour and in some classes the teaching is terrible.
So, just like high school in person. At least, that’s how I remember it.
Yup Chafed. And while high school can be a slog in person at least there is the camaraderie of going through it together with your friends and classmates. And yes, even the crappy parts of having to deal with asshoe kids is character building. This is the the frigging worst. And still collecting full property tax to pay for the charade.
I take it back, it’s clearly monsoon season. 80s, overcast, muggy. Fall is postponed till September.
So, Tuesday? ?
The weather is supposed to be pretty nice for the next week. Mid 70’s, a couple days of rain, and it looks like clear weather for the island next weekend and Cedar Point.

As he followed Vice President Pence onstage in Charlotte, Trump was greeted with chants of “four more years.” He replied: “If you want to really drive them crazy you say: ‘Twelve more years.’ ”
The president did not explain how a four-term presidency might happen, given the constitutional limit of two terms set by the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution halfway through the 20th century.

It’s sad because Elving is a longtime NPR employee, not some wokester hired out of college. And he used to have a sense of humor.
Christ, he’s the best president of my lifetime (very low bar). So hilarious.
It’s been over four years of “seriously, not literally.” At some point it looks obtuse.
I like to think the author is drily going along with the joke.
OT sort of: Watching the Laker-Trail Blazer (on mute) game with my son, who is home from uni. He is a Blazer fan and knows basketball from playing and coaching. We are talking about the 30 for 30 with Lance Armstrong and about doping and such. He just mentions casually that he believe LeBron is doping. He has played the most games and his style is very physical. He is never hurt and doesn’t look like he has lost anything physically. Is he using the cream and the clear OR is it just clean living and good genetics.
Thinking about it, I have to agree that it must be clean living and good genetics..but I also think LeBron can read.
My fitness update: the Mrs and I traveled to Colorado Springs this week. We’ve done three major hikes over the past five days: Garden of the Gods, North Cheyenne Canon Park and Red Rock Canyon Open Space. We plan to do another hike at North Cheyenne tomorrow. I’m planning to write an article for Glibs about the trip. We also went to some good restaurants and brew-pubs.
Woohoo! I love travelogues!
We’ve taken a bunch of photos. Is there a limit to the number of photos for an article?
Nope!
(What did you expect a professional photographer to say? LOL)
I expected a minimum quality requirement.
Then again, you let me post my photographs.
That area is amazing.
I love the Springs. Breakfast (by which I mean a giant #10 green chili burrito) at Mountain Shadows was always a treat.
Just noticed your comment. I had an omelet at Mountain Shadows today. Yum!

Sweet baby Jesus. ????
LOOK AT HER FACE. She’s like “oh. oh shit. what do I do?” LOL
LOL! I wish that was real.
Me too. I am curious to see the source of the video. I suspect it is still revealing.
Down thread it is explained.
It is indeed. Here ya go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xelweTAfUHE
I shouted that to my wife and her immediate response was “That can’t be real, can it?”
I pointed out that we all assume it isn’t real, but we all add that “can it?” because it’s still plausible.
*showed* it.
I try not to shout at my wife.
So, what’s it look like? Twitter doesn’t work for me.
On one side is a journalist who tried to interview someone who fell asleep. On the other side the Twitterer put the video of Joe Biden falling asleep from this town hall video (and added snoring sounds):

Oh heavens, we do not deserve him
+1 insightful
?
He’s a total savage.
I can’t find my spatula. I just thawed my ground beef and got a fresh shipment of cheeses, still had bread, so I was thinking of making burgers. But I appear to have misplaced the spatula. Makes it… less easy
Tongs.
But you have to admit, the spatula would still be easier.
Depends on the cooking surface, burger texture, and whether or not there are toppings on it yet like barbecue sauce or cheese.
Cook surface is whichever pan I lay my hands on first, which has a better than even chance of having a nonstick surface, because the steel clad steel pan is too big for on person’s burgers. Burgers are as yet unmade, and eventually cheese will be added.
Oh, and my tongs are bare metal, so I’d rather not use them in the nonstick pans.
If I try really hard, I might be able to find a really old cast iron pan that needs derusting.
Broiler burgers?
https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2010/07/juicy-broiled-burgers-recipe.html
The? I don’t understand? I’ve got at least four different ones (all of which are better for different uses).
Oh, look at mister fancypants mcmoneybags.
I can see 8 turning spatulas from where I am sitting.
Including some silicone versions for non-stick pans.
7 silicone vessel-scraping spatulas.
And we have 4 sets of silicone tongs, and two sets of metal-tipped tongs.
Easy is for people who don’t lose their spatulas. Less easy is for the spatulaless. I have flipped burgers with a big spoon before. Or you can run down to the hardware store buy a chunk of sheet metal and a jig saw, or a cordless grinder with a cutting disc and make one. Or just get a small piece of sheet metal and clamp your vice grips to it. C’mon, think outside the box here. Find your largest metal spoon and beat it flat in the driveway with your largest hammer. The solutions are endless.
I just looked.
I went searching for a spatula, and found… three. The plastic one I knew I’d lost, and two metal ones, including one that was hiding in… the dish drain, where I’d left it after washing it.
I should put clean dishes away.
But they’re so handy in the dish rack.
At least you didn’t lose your spatula-handling gloves.
Spatula City.
I can do all those jump rope tricks…for a minute or so nowadays. In my fighting days I could jump rope like that non-stop for at least ten minutes, only stopping after screwing up two or three times. Now, heh…

So what you’re saying is we should put air to air missiles on the external weapon mounts, even if they were meant for more bombs?
Modern ball turret.
I figure it’s easier to put a missile on a bomb mount than retrofit an aircraft to add a turret.

Tough talk
An apparent Antifa member was caught on camera discussing the death of a Patriot Prayer backer who’d been killed on Saturday night and called the deceased a “f***ing fascist,” at a group gathering in Portland shortly after.
In the clip posted to Twitter by Andy Ngo on Sunday, a female speaker is addressing a crowd in downtown Portland with a bullhorn. She claimed the community could function without the police or local government and said she wasn’t saddened by the man’s death.
“I am not sad that a f***ing fascist died tonight,” the woman said to cheers and laughter from the crowd.
“If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention,” she had said earlier in her speech. “If y’all are not with me, y’all are not paying attention. Everybody needs to realize what’s going on in these streets. Our community can hold its own without the police. We can take out the trash on our own.”
The woman was referring to the shooting of a member of a pro-Trump organization called Patriot Prayer, which occurred when counterprotesters associated with Black Lives Matter clashed with the rightwing group.
Be careful what you wish for, little girl.
Oh, I am paying attention and I am angry. So are a lot of people.
It’s not going to be how she pictures it.
All it takes is for a couple of his buddies to decide they want some revenge and things are going to go into the toilet.
So skinsuited Fox News tries to tie Patriot Prayer to Trump. Afaik, they’ve never been anything other than a general pro America patriot group and confronting antifa.
I don’t think it’s fair to mention it in this context and I don’t know if they’ve formally endorsed anyone but it’s probably safe to say they’re pro Trump, at least as far as the vast majority of individuals in the organization go.
Sure the individuals are, but calling them a pro-Trump as an organization is misleading and a smear attempt.
Here’s their website
https://gibsonforfreedom.com/
Zero mention of Trump or Trump logos in the text or pictures.
I noticed Fox News is starting to go hard-left in their coverage (not just the AP Wire reports, but Fox only articles). The articles about Rittenhouse were particularly disturbing. Things like “Mr. Rittenhouse claimed to be protecting his community from Antifa even though no evidence has tied Antifa to the mostly peaceful protests in Kenosha” (not an exact quote but close enough).
Conquest’s law.
I noticed that a couple of years ago. Word choice has been particularly left leading.
These fuckers are larping there way to pinochet. It’s not even going to be a choice either.
Lardass is going to find out what happens when the reins come off if things keep up.
Obviously it was a fascist who died. They were killed by a member of Antifa, who are anti-fascist, so anyone they attack is de facto a fascist.
^This guy gets it, you’ll be getting an extra Victory Gin and saccharine ration are the end of the month.
That night the antifa were screaming that the rightwingers shot some random black guy. It was, of course, 100% bullshit, but that was their reason for violence.
These people are fucking unhinged.
I find it incredible that even with shooting deaths the mayors in these cities seem unwilling to clamp on the violence from all sides.
This here is why you let Portland burn itself down and don’t get involved. Fuck that guy. He can blame anyone he wants but he is the one letting it all happen.
There comes a point, and I don’t think we are at that point yet, where Ted Wheeler is just George Wallace 2.0. If local and state authorities are winking and nodding while Antifa beats, burns, and murders anyone to the right of Hillary Clinton, then at some point the feds are acting the way Eisenhower did in Little Rock.
They have to find this guy, indict him for first degree murder, and they need to do it fast. There’s pretty good video of him, and it looks like those autists at 4chan have a decent suspect, a guy whose social media is full of violent antifa talk.
I doubt they will find him without someone ratting him out or some serious undercover work, which I am sure is happening and no doubt the feds have infiltrated antifa. The commi’s have that guy tucked away somewhere and he won’t step outside for a year. He’s probably nowhere near Portland right now.
Wheeler is clearly responsible for letting the violence go on.
He’s only the more public face of it. The entire local and state political leadership is up to their necks in this. For example, here’s the county chair
https://multco.us/multnomah-county/news/chair-deborah-kafoury-statement-aug-29-shooting-downtown-portland
Governor is the same way, blaming Trump.
https://pamplinmedia.com/pt/9-news/478369-386665-kafoury-blames-white-supremacy-trump-for-protest-shooting?wallit_nosession=1

Fuck that guy.
No kidding.
“It’s you, Mister President! You made us do this!”
Fuck off and die, you sleazy shit gobbling weasel.
He then proceed to go home and beat his significant other with a rolling pin because the creasant rolls were burnt. He had to, the bitch made him.
I’m OK
People-at-the-door mystery solved? Or did they just go away?
Rack of Shot gun?
No, thanks. It doesn’t sound as tasty or tender as rack of lamb.
you can’t have one, without the other,
Keep your wits about you this evening, my friend. Something’s definitely off there.
I know, got my calls in, and powder dry, somethings going on ,,,
Maybe keep the dog inside after sundown as well. I’d hate if they ‘silenced’ her before attempting a break-in.
Tall cups of coffee. Seriously, don’t fuck around. I’m over a thousand miles away and even my Spidey-senses are tingling. I’ve lived in to many shitty neighborhoods not to sense a stake-out/trial run before attempted burglary.

I just threw these two monster steaks on the grill.
2 steaks – 3.5 lbs
I hate You! all those lovely Steaks!
Yummy!
Your butcher is my favorite butcher. You would be hard pressed to find steaks that thick around here. There is a co-op ranching/meat processor here who opened a new store front right before “the troubles” and I am going to pay them a visit next week.
I smoked a few Sirloin steaks today planning on making Slopers amazing carne asada tacos tonight but now I am not hungry. One too many grilled pulled pork and cheese sandwiches for lunch.
I didn’t even make it to the strip side. The filet was buttery soft.
Mental health issues
After five months of being home, Danielle Cahue was looking forward to returning to campus — that is, until she got there. When the 19-year-old sophomore arrived at Illinois State University, she saw her peers gathering in large groups without masks, disregarding the university’s COVID-19 guidelines.
There have been more than 400 positive cases of COVID-19 at Illinois State as of Friday. The pandemic has stressed her mental health, especially when she sees her classmates acting carelessly about safety and social distancing, Cahue said. She tries to leave her on-campus apartment as little as possible, even delaying buying groceries until she has almost no food left.
“This is the most anxious I’ve ever been, I think, in my entire life,” Cahue told NBC News. “It has made it a lot worse and made me kind of worried just to do anything.”
——-
“There’s a huge range of possibilities of how this disease can affect people and knowing that it spreads so quickly within close proximity, it’s a little nerve-wracking to be on a college campus, in a dorm, with so many other people, with a disease that spreads so quickly like this,” she said.
Nonetheless, mental health professionals are urging students to remain hopeful and to take care of themselves as the semester begins.
“I know that there’s a ton of pain and tragedy associated with the pandemic and with the associated increased awareness and backlash around social inequity. What I want to try to get across to people is maintain hope. I have nothing but hope,” said Allen O’Barr, UNC’s counseling and psychological services director. “I think that the way to do that is to really focus on the brief moments of joy.”
Here’s an idea. Stop terrorizing these kids (and the vast majority of the rest of the population) with your goddam zombieplague horror stories.
“Am I going to die if I go to the grocery store?”
“No, you paranoiac ninny. Go have a hamburger and a beer and act like a normal human being.”
The shit and stories I’ve heard about that’s going on at the colleges is horrific. I’d have packed up and left day one. If you live on campus you’re basically in prison with less amenities and more rules.
Maybe it was product of my upbringing coupled with copious amounts of drug use at the time but when I was 19 I was borderline fearless. I honestly can’t wrap my head around being that anxious, timid, docile, easily cowered, however you want to describe it at that age.
I don’t know what to tell the kid….your parents failed you, I guess?
I can’t even imagine having the mindset of that person when I was 19. No chance the majority of kids give a fuck about this besides doing what they have to.
It looks like she feels uneasy because the majority don’t give a damn but she’s the germaphobe weirdo and she gets the writeup.
God, I hope so…and I realize I’m misspelling things left and right at this point but I’m two beers and three bowls deep now. All fucks that could have been given are gaved*
*not a word, don’t care, fucks already gaved*
I’m still trying to develop the mentality that I’m not unbreakable. Certainly can’t muster up any concern for the ‘vid. I watched the terror of the the ‘herp, ‘hiv, ‘hep and the ebola, sars, swine flu, avian flu, flesh eating bacteria, bath salts, vaping, butt chugging, you name it. I ain’t falling for this one assholes. Take your 180k number and shove it right up your ass with all the other shit. I’m not buying any of this. If it were real, they’d have excluded regular flu and pnumonia from the count. Lies, lies and more statistics. They seem really happy that it dinged Trump’s poll numbers, though. That part is very real.
One of these days you and I need to talk about our pasts in further detail. I think you, westernsloper, and I may have quite a bit in common during our youth.
I was in no way, shape or form a wild child in high school. Like, I won’t say I was boring, but I never got in trouble with the cops or anything. Beer, pot, some occasional mushrooms, maybe some mild trespassing or being out in a city park after dark. Stuff like that.
I get to college, and the very first thing we have is some stupid orientation thing. So I, quite sensibly, suggest to people I’d met that we should duck out and go explore campus and head up to the liquor store and figure out what the deal was for picking up booze underage. Would they card? Did we need to make contact with an upperclassman? Maybe a homeless guy?
People were absolutely shocked. Sitting there “We can’t do that, this is mandatory.” Uh, no it isn’t. You’re an adult. Class hasn’t started yet. They’re not taking attendance.
Ha! My man.
No kidding. I am lucky I saw the age of 20. I was literally indestructible and fearless in my late teens and acted the idiot that that attitude generates. I honestly feel bad for the people that have had fear rule their lives because of the news and government over reach. Especially if you are a 19 year old kid who has a greater chance of winning the lottery than dyeing of covid.
See my comment to blackjack.
Only 6% of the covid deaths have the novel corona virus as a morbidity all 94% of the others have comorbiditys. This thing is going to be exposed as the biggest most self destructive global human delusion and mass hysteria in our lifetimes.
https://twitter.com/EthicalSkeptic/status/1300184443479642112
“Put another way
Novel Covid Deaths 45,223
Would Have Died Later in Year 118,773
Died Because we Panicked 47,415
This is why class & human rights litigation must be pursued. More people died from the lockdown, than did solely from Covid.”
It’s been too politicized. The truth, such that it is, will never be exposed. Not in our lifetimes anyway, maybe in an analysis performed a hundred years or so from now.
Maybe it fades away, like acid rain, ELF (extremely low frequency) electromagnetic fields from power lines killing us,, Africanized bees, hole in the Ozone layer, Y2K bug, etc.
The new spin on Twitter on Y2K was that it was a “huge threat, and the only reason it seemed like a big nothing is because government took steps to prevent it.” I was working in that area at the time and that spin is complete horseshit.
The fact that the federal Y/K office and all fed agency Y2K paperwork requirements were still in effect until Trump eliminated them tells me what I need to know about effectiveness of the government involvement during Y2K.
That was probably the most clear cut case of exactly what the Executive Orders are supposed to be used for that I’ve seen. Closing a department in the executive branch is all too rare.
Ah, well. Time to pivot back to something totally real, like the climate crisis.
I’d agree but there are actual real doctors, virologists and epidemiologists on the anti-hysteria side right now. It won’t take 100 years it will take 3 months before everyone is pretty much on the same page.
We’ll see I suppose but the last six months have made me reevaluate my belief in the eventual triumph of rationality.
oh they won’t ever say they were wrong. They’ll just move on.
Yep. I predicted Americans would revolt in mass by Memorial Day. I was way, way too optimistic. And to my shame, I to this day engage in Mask Theatre. I try to minimize it as much as possible but the only place near me that refuses to engage in this shit where I can purchase food and beverages is a small convenience store and a bar and grill. Even I can’t live off of Cheetos and tenderloin sandwiches all the time. It sucks, I feel vaguely trapped all the damb time. Every exit from the grocery store or has station is followed by angrily ripping the mask off my face, feeling g disgust for humankind and myself. Ihate this shit. It’s turning me into a decidedly unpleasant person in public. I don’t want to be that random angry asshole…dammit.
*hits bowl*
SERENITY NOW!!!
I’m right with you, from the Memorial Day prediction on down.
I share every sentiment you write there, right down to disgust with myself for cooperating.
They say everyone has a price. Mine was apparently keeping my steady job with benefits etc.
I need to raise my price somehow before the next assault on our freedoms.
That’s the worst part, really. Feeling like a hypocrite every time I willingly enter a Mask Only establishment. I don’t have to, and I honestly try not to nearly allthe time…but I do it.
It’s that voice in the back of my head whispering *chickenshit* over and over that’s getting me twisted.
Run away with me, hk! We’ll build a little bungalow out in the Alaskan tundra, deck out in arms, and go done with guns blazzing so they can’t drag us to the camps. Ha!
Please ignore me, I’m close to faded right about now.
It will depend on what happens the first Tuesday in November.
FIFY.
Gov Newsom is the worst. What a sleaze, and it’s easy for him and other Leftists to force business out because “you didn’t build that” anyway.
Similar to the pro-looting crowd who say that looting doesn’t hurt anyone because insurance pays for it (until the actuarial tables say “no mas”).
Even my formerly Dem voter friends back in MN (mostly women who buy the emotional appeals of past campaigns) are now hard Trump voters, due to the business closures, temporary and permanent, school chaos, lack of law and order, etc.
I live in a red district in CA but the GOP congresscritter has to resign in disgrace so who knows what we will get next time?
Yes, but him and his fellow comrades are very generous in wanting to give other people $800,000, just because of the color of their skin.
I don’t know how anyone could vote for him after he pulled the rug out from under everybody with the change in metrics to cases and positivity rates as opposed to hospitalizations. Is he seriously counting on nobody in his base not wanting to go to a bar, a salon, run their own business, attend a sporting event or put their kid in school? Does he not realize that other people are going to see what’s happening in other states? GA/FL has had in person learning since first week of August with few issues and declining stats. I just don’t know what to say about it anymore I just don’t even see how there’s anyone on the other side at this point.
People on the “government wouldn’t let anything bad happen to me” left go on and on about needing masks and the mortal danger mask noncompliance is causing, due to our greed and stupidity.
So his real base probably believes CoVid would be all gone if OrangeMan hadn’t tied Gavin’s hands.
I can’t believe that’s the average voter. It’s one thing to have an online orange man bad go team perspective it’s another when it directly impacts your life.
Keep flogging that horse. One of these days it’s going to jump up off the ground and win the Kentucky Derby.
The US Justice Department in 2017 took secret steps to curtail the special counsel investigation into Russian election interference and possible coordination with the Trump campaign, former law enforcement officials told The New York Times.
According to the newspaper, former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had ordered former special counsel Robert Mueller to examine “any links and/or coordination between the Russian government” and Trump’s campaign, but former law enforcement officials said that privately, Rosenstein told Mueller to conduct only a criminal investigation.
The revelation is likely to fuel new scrutiny from Democrats who have long argued that the scope of the President’s ties to Russia have yet to be fully examined without interference.
——-
“It was first and foremost a counterintelligence case,” he said. “Could the President actually be the point of coordination between the campaign and the Russian government? Could the President actually be maintaining some sort of inappropriate relationship with our most significant adversary in the world?”
The Times report comes one week after the Senate Intelligence Committee released the most comprehensive and meticulous examination to date explaining how Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election and the Trump campaign welcomed the foreign adversary’s help, revealing new information about contacts between Russian officials and associates of Trump during and after the campaign.
Unlike Mueller’s report, which focused on questions of criminal conduct, the committee’s report detailing the findings of its counterintelligence is hundreds of pages of facts the panel obtained, drawing conclusions in places where Mueller often stopped short of doing so
We just need Trump’s tax returns, and the evidence will be irrefutable.
Pelosi said that’s how they’re going to declare the election illegitimate. Having a tax return is against the law, or something.
More bullshit Russia shit? For Christ’s sake, please give it a rest already, at this point it’s sheer fucking insanity to still be pushing that twaddle.
unhinged Insanity seems to be all they have.
Really?
No shit?
If at first, second, third, fourth, and fifth you don’t succeed, try try again and again and again.
From the transcript of Mueller’s testimony about the Russia investigation:
COLLINS:
Were you or your team provided any questions by members of Congress (inaudible) the majority ahead of your hearing today?
MUELLER:
No.
At this point If I hear a politician talk about “SCIENCE” I assume he just means “the voices in my head told me to do this.”
Well, I’m at that point in the evening where I’m begining to make an ass of myself in an aggrandized fashion. I’ll see myself out. Have fun, kiddos!
Good night sir.
Late to the party.
He believes. No one cares what he believes. His beliefs don’t determine actual biology or, you know, how a virus spreads and ultimately burns itself out.
I don’t know who I hate more: our governor or the people who think he is doing a good job.
This site is better than PornHub.
Weight down about half pound. According to my body fat analyzer, I’m down about 3/4 lb fat and up about 1/4 pound muscle.
A slight setback with my disc herniation recovery, but I’ve bounced back from that setback.
