¡Enlaces mexicanos día de las elecciones!

In all seriousness, Mexico’s current constitution has the election run on a six year cycle and you can only be president for a single six year term.  Plus…okay who cares?

I know whats on everybody’s mind today, but I am going to cling to this schtick harder than Nate Silver clings to his waning credibility.  On to the links!

Pope Francis says his comments on gay marriage were taken out of context, and edited by the reporter who interviewed….okay who cares?

Peace deal in Colombia hangs in the balance as they eye the US Elec….okay who cares?

Hurricane Eta moves towards Nicaragua, and is likely tos cause severe….okay who cares?

Record number of sea turtles hatch in…okay who cares?

They really can’t meme…even when half the work is done for them

It’s probably a better step to repealing the Logan Act instead of…okay who cares?

A human interest piece on a university professor that survived torture by Pinochet…okay I KNOW none of you give a shit about this.

Its as appropriate a tune I could think of today.

Sunday night’s Simpsons scrolled dozens of reasons not to vote for Trump (man that show is unrecognizable compared to the incredible level it was at in the 90s, when they didn’t pick sides but made fun of everyone, as a good comedy should).

I get that Pinochet was a tyrannical, evil bastard. I won’t deny it. But, I really haven’t ever heard anyone give me an honest answer to a simple question – what set of actions by Pinochet would have been okay?

I know, the left will inevitably answer, done nothing and respected Allende’s hold on power. Okay. Let’s put that to the test. Let’s say the current election goes to the House. And President Trump makes a deal with a bunch of Congresspeople to stay in power, but under strict conditions. Now, let’s say President Trump starts violating those conditions, and even the Constitution willy-nilly. Oh, and he starts arresting people in the opposition. And bringing in, say, Russian advisors to help train his supporters into a militia loyal to him and the GOP. Now, let’s say Congress says “Holy crap! This sounds about right:

If news organizations declare Joe Biden the mathematical president-elect, he plans to address the nation as its new leader, even if President Trump continues to fight in court, advisers tell Axios.

Biden campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon told reporters Monday that even if all the votes aren’t counted tonight, the campaign should have “a very good sense of where we’re headed”:

“We’re not really concerned about what Donald Trump says. … We’re going to use our data, our understanding of where this is headed, and make sure that the vice president is addressing the American people.”

So, the in-the-tank DemOp Media, using exit polls (snicker) and partial data, declare Biden the winner (Oh, they said they weren’t going to declare a winner tonight? Hush, you!). They then host a wall-to-wall broadcast of Biden’s victory speech and Biden begins his transition into the White House. Everything after that is Trump refusing to accept the results, just like they said he wouldn’t. Oh, the actual results? Only a Trumpalo would care about that.

The first lady arrived at the Morton and Barbara Mandel Recreation Center in Palm Beach to vote around 10 a.m. Trump, who has recovered from the novel coronavirus after her diagnosis last month, did not wear a mask when she entered the polling place.

“It’s Election Day, so I wanted to come here to vote today for the election,” Trump replied when asked by a reporter why she didn’t vote early with her husband in Florida last month.

“We’re not really concerned about what Donald Trump says. … We’re going to use our data, our understanding of where this is headed, and make sure that the vice president is addressing the American people.”

To show momentum, Biden may begin transition announcements quickly, starting with senior staff appointments.

Put her down as plague related

An 18-year-old woman died in a scuba diving accident at Montana’s Glacier National Park on Sunday.
A park ranger responded a report about an accident at about 5:50 p.m., according to a news release from the National Parks Service.
The woman, who was from Missoula, was part of a six-person group that went scuba diving at Lake McDonald around 4 p.m. that day. She was declared dead after first responders and other divers in her group were unable to resuscitate her, according to the release.

    ——-

Lake McDonald, with its crystal-clear waters, is a popular scuba diving destination because of an underwater forest and the submerged relics that lie beneath its surface. Divers in Glacier National Park aren’t required to have permits, and their equipment isn’t subject to official inspections, according to the NPS.

THIS IS WHY WE NEED JOE BIDEN IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

Stop President Cartoon Villain’s senseless and cruel rampage of deregulation.

There are no regulations or inspections because the SCUBA community has always policed itself and do so very carefully. No permits required but no SCUBA shop is going to rent to you or take you on a dive without certification.

Deutsche Bank is looking for ways to end its relationship with President Donald Trump after the U.S. elections, as it tires of the negative publicity stemming from the ties, according to three senior bank officials with direct knowledge of the matter.

Deutsche Bank has about $340 million in loans outstanding to the Trump Organization, the president’s umbrella group that is currently overseen by his two sons, according to filings made by Trump to the U.S. Office of Government Ethics in July and a senior source within the bank. The three loans, which are against Trump properties and start coming due in two years, are current on payments and personally guaranteed by the president, according to two bank officials.

Deutsche Bank declined to comment. The Trump Organization did not respond to requests for comment. The White House declined to comment.

  31. Pope Jimbo

I only got in one argument when I voted in person today. Personal growth!

For some reason, they have a table in the school hallway where I vote. The only purpose is to make sure you are in the right voting spot. There is another polling place in the elementary school right across the road, so maybe they get some people in the wrong spot?

Anyhow, I always blow by that table because I’m in the right spot and as far as I can see those yahoos don’t do shit. As soon as you get by them, you go to a table marked “Step 1” (which doubly makes me pretty sure the hallway yahoos are just busybodies). There were no lines at all today when I got there. But when I passed on by the hall monitors, one of them got really excited and told me I had to stop there. I told him I didn’t and kept going. He actually followed me to Step 1 table and tattled on me.

Step 1 table is where they ask you your name and address and have you sign your oath for your ballot (you pick up the ballot at Step 2 table). Anyhow, while I’m working with Step 1 table guy hall monitor is grousing that I didn’t check in with him first. Step 1 guy sort of rolled his eyes and I told Hall Monitor guy that I knew I was in the right place and the fact that they found me in the system proved that I didn’t need him at all.

But that was it as far as arguments go. Didn’t have the one with Step 2 lady who gave me my ballot about having to stick around for the lecture on correctly bubbling in my ballot or the argument with the I Voted sticker lady.

Only other weird thing was that I got the stink eye from some official looking lady who was sitting at the entrance to the school. I think she was mad because I didn’t put on my mask in my car and instead waited until I got to the door of the school. That meant I was probably 10 feet away (while outdoors in the sun and wind) and totes endangering her life. You could tell she approved of another guy who was there about the same time who got out of his car with a mask on. He definitely was doing his part to protect the rest of us.

It’s just ironic to me that the diversity that women in the Democratic party offer is purely biological (assuming Hillary and Kamala are biologically female – I remain unconvinced). By that I mean…they are basically hyper masculine by Democratic party standards. They embody the worst of male politicians and downplay any actual feminine qualities. It’s someone who nominally has a vagina but who compensates by embodying the empty, vacuous and unprincipled stereotype of politicians in general.

I didn’t plan to make this. My wife wanted some gumbo soup, which is what we call spicy soup with okra. So I have this on the stove and she comes in there and says ‘it’s green’. And I said ‘yeah, that’s because I don’t have any tomatoes’. So the jalpenos are the only color it has. It was white onions, so the jalapenos rule the color. Jumbo Verde. I’m going to put some shrimp in there after it’d done cooking, but I assume it will still be green.

I have tomatoes, but they’re my cherry and pear maters I’ve been picking off the deck. I can’t use those for soup, they’re for munching with salt or salads.

80% of the vote is in and he’s down 2%. I watched this very closely in 2016. Does not look good.

      • Breet Pharara

Trump back in the lead with almost all of Miami-Dade and Broward in and panhandle yet to report. Blowout.

That just shows Trump can win, but still a long way to go.

    • The Hyperbole

Fox says Fl polls are closed, CNN says there are open ’til 8?

      • Breet Pharara

Panhandle vs SE. Panhandle hasn’t come in yet. SE is heavily Dem but is already mostly in.

      • Florida Man

Panhandle is in a different time zone. May be the reason for confusion.

      • The Hyperbole

        Makes sense thanks.

    • Brochettaward

Broward and Miami have reported in and Biden badly underperformed Hillary. Biden was 21 points under Hillary in Miami-Dade. Florida is in the bag.

      • Ownbestenemy

Via Twitter: Bloomberg reports that President Trump has received 450,000 votes in Miami-Dade, up from 334,000 in 2016.

Whatever happens, I do look forward to seeing the county map breakdown after this election.

    • The Hyperbole

I’m not one to kink shame but that’s pretty efing weird.

    • rhywun

      LOL

    • Deplorableme

      Jeffery Toobin?

  59. Ed Wuncler

Thanks SP! This site is a welcome distraction from the shittiness of the world.

I have a bunch of friends who are saying variations of if you vote for Trump we can’t be friends because you hate gays/are a racist/anit0immigration/ or whatever they are throwing out there.

Fuck these sanctimonious pricks. They are literally voting for an old senile career politician and a woman who made her career throwing her own people (and whites) in jail just so she can achieve political power. And if you tell them this and point out Harris’ criminal justice record, the more honest ones will say, “Of course she’s bad but we are willing to overlook that because I hate Trump,” or the stupid fucking partisan hacks will close their eyes and start yelling at you about how you hate black women.

I hate what politics have done to my friends and this country. I don’t know what happened but Trump broke a lot of people mentally and exposed them for the authoritarian assholes that they are.

    • Florida Man

Sorry Ed. At least you have Glibertarians to come and vent.

    • Count Potato

It is nuts if you think about it. Massive BLM protests, but the two people they pick are Biden and Harris?

    • Nephilium

/raises a pint of beer to Ed Wuncler

If you ever want to meet up in Cleveland, let me know.

    • Gustave Lytton

      Woo hoo!

Really like that he explains his votes, or even non-votes, on how Tweater feed.

    • Tundra

He’s amazing. I’ve red-pilled more people with him than any other pol!

  60. Breet Pharara

The Turtle reigns supreme. Question is if he’ll keep his majority or be forced to be a pathetic minority leader.

  61. Tundra

So, I’l take this a different direction.

Over the weekend, we became a two dog family.

    Meet Kiki!

She’s a 10.5 year old Aussie Shepherd mix who’s previous owners were fucking assholes. When she got to the shelter, her dental disease was so bad she had 15 teeth removed!

We picked her up on Friday and she has settled in beautifully with my 13 year old sheepdog. Every day she gets calmer and happier. She is currently curled up on the sofa, sound asleep.

    I’m a lucky dude.

    • Gustave Lytton

Yes you are. And so is she. What a cutie!

    • Ownbestenemy

      Beautiful and wonderful Tundra!
