Like Mexico, I am not sending you my best this week. Work has been in overdrive (knock wood), my parents came over yesterday in the hopes of avoiding today’s traffic, and I don’t have much left in the tank.
Going to the gym this week was a joy. The mask mandate is over and no one in the gym is wearing a mask. On Friday I entered the gym at the same time as a man I estimate to be in his late 70s using a walker. He didn’t have a mask. I wanted to cry with joy.
I am a sore motherf*cker. This was my first full week in the gym with a full conditioning regime, as well, in some time. It’s hitting me how the mask mandate really screwed with my mental game. I am certain it affected my willingness to commit to my gym workouts. The buck stops with me, but I still hate my smarmy governor.
This is the last Coronavirus edition of GlibFit. The mask mandate is over in tarnished State of California. The only remaining vestige of this nightmare is the gym still requiring the use of a bottle refiller while keeping their water fountain closed. It’s no big deal because I bring a bottle.
Of course, my repugnant governor is keeping his emergency powers because the path of the coronavirus is uncertain (according to him and the SCIENCE! he still refuses to publicly disclose.) My governor is a political animal to his core. If he reimposes any type of lockdown in the future, it may be me in the clock tower with the long gun. So, let’s all just hope this is truly the last of the Coronavirus Edition.
****************************************************************
Some businesses don’t seem to have gotten the message the mask mandate is over. A burger joint I frequent for lunch is still requiring masks and will only do takeout. Sorry folks, my patience is exhausted. A different restaurant got my lunch business. In a similar vein, I walked into my local PetSmart sans mask. Walking down the aisles I noticed nearly everyone had a mask on. WTF? I got to checkout and saw a masked cashier and saw the sign requiring masks. He didn’t say a word about my bare face. The sign may be up, but enforcement was nonexistent.
I love Glenn Loury.
Seeing as how I’m a father, I’m indulging myself with this week’s music. First, is a super fun tune with an equally fun video. Second, is a song that makes no sense but that doesn’t stop me from stomping and singing along.
The winner in the opening sentence.
Well done, sir.
Catching up on posts that I’ve missed by being out, but I hop your search for faith works out for you hayek.
I’m annoyed (at myself) that I missed multiple theology discussions here, since there’s very few places that I feel are safe to have those discussions.
/puts his newest copy of Screwtape Letters into his beach bag
Thank you for the sentiments. I suppose I should put these spiritual soliloquies in the forums instead of the comments section.
I have faith in abundance; my problem is in figuring out how to worship and fellowship. I’ve over “thought” everything to the exclusion of the feelz and the joy.
On the Screwtape front, there is a newish book written by a CS Lewis fan called “As one devil to another: a Fiendish Correspondence” that modernizes some of the examples for a new audience.
Screwtape Letters and Job: A Comedy of Justice are the two most gifted books that I’ve owned. I truly believe both are great books and can help awaken spirituality in those who don’t have it.
And I say this as an agnostic.
Or in a post… 😉 These get a fair amount of discussion and I think others find it interesting as well.
I believe I have mentioned Lewis as the primary influence in me becoming a libertarian.
Out of the Silent Planet FTW.
It was God in the Dock, which is a collection of his essays.
Not that The Space Trilogy didnt play a part. That Hideous Strength gave me nightmares.
What turned me from the lukewarm Republican to the libertarian I am was reading 1984 and Brave New World back to back in high school. Then listening to the words that the Republicans were saying, and expanding upon them.
Later in my life, Heinlein really resonated with me when I read him. I met a young woman Friday night (while out with the girlfriend for a date night) who had never heard some of the thoughts said aloud, but was libertarian adjacent. I provided the quote from Moon is a Harsh Mistress:
She said it was the most beautiful thing she had ever heard.
She is right. Best Heinlein quote.
The real fun is discussing the morally responsible portion of the claim.
The girlfriend and I were on the way out from there and moving onward that night.
But the real question is, which woman did Neph go home with that night?
hayek:
I went home with the girlfriend. I have many faults, cheating isn’t one of them. Besides, the girlfriend and I continued on and met other people out and about.
I was joshing about the girlfriend thing. Girlfriend is a term that can mean a great many levels of relationship, from just started dating to common-law wife.
Nice tale of the encounter with a proto libertarian. It’s fun to spot them in the wild.
Why not both?
hayek:
No offense taken at all.
The girlfriend and I have been together for quite a while now. I specify girlfriend while out at some locations specifically to avoid the risk of common-law wife. The nephews had some questions when they were younger, which I directed right back at their parents.
That is a good passage.
I was always liberty leaning, but what set me firmly down the path was getting whacked with the income tax on my first job with a paycheck.
For me, it was a high school job at a McDonald’s, where I had to pay local tax to the city where I was working. Right after being taught in school that the American Revolution was due to Taxation without Representation. When I asked about the local tax in class the next week, I got the response, “That’s different.”.
Back in the eighties, when I first got started paying attention to politics, I was a Democrat, as the Ed Meese years were none too cool. But, that said, I was a very liberty-minded Dem, which was easy as the R’s were in the catbird seat with Regan and what not. I come from an old Berkeley family, and the free speech ideals were burned into me at a young age. That, and spending a lifetime working with and around books solidified my beliefs.
And as time has moved on and we see the D’s moving into the catbird seat, I find myself a Libertarian, as in registered. Mainly as I was so disgusted by the Obama years and as its ideology spoke to me, much more than the party did. And is reinforcing these days.
But, due to some life events and changes, I would be interested in a theology post of some sort, not because I am any sort of believer at this time, but it is increasingly interesting to me.
zwak:
Damn it… I’m still supposed to write up the non-alcoholic cocktail article.
Well, and I don’t feel that qualified to write a theological post for this group, but I’ll gladly jump into comments/threads about them.
I few years back, I wrote “Jesus and the gini coefficient.” Check the archives.
fourscore:
I applaud you. Howe’er, the proto-libertarian girl was there was a guy. I wished him well on his evening when we left.
So why not a foursome?
Well, it appears I will not hit my goal of 180 this month. Lowest weigh in the past week was 186.6 with 22.9% body fat (both new lows since last year for me). Trend lines are still pointing down, and I can fit back into my favorite bowling/work shirts without looking like a stuffed sausage. Less riding this past week as storms have been threatening for almost every day. Vacation next weekend will not help. But I’m happy that I had to go out and buy new shorts (the old ones would fall off if I put anything in the pockets), and the aspirational cycling kit I picked up last year may fit by the end of the year.
“ But I’m happy that I had to go out and buy new shorts”
That’s gotta be rewarding. Good job.
I concur. Good job Nephilium.
“In answer to your inquiry, I consider that the chief dangers that confront the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God and heaven without Hell…” –
General William Booth – 1900
Sounds about right, walking away from God has destroyed our nation, and I like it here, Dammit!
I will say, happy penis presenting day to those who have successfully spawned.
Completely inappropriate music link for the day.
Far and away, the best song for this day!
Take a listen, Papa!
How about this little ditty
Expected this little ditty.
Another contender for a Father’s day song.
And of course.
Why you gotta make me cry?
This works better for me. Stupid lyrics.
I did not like this song when it came out. I hate it now.
What is WRONG with you people?!
How much time you got? This might take a while.
58 v. 36
Good tunes. Have seen both bands live multiple times. One time At a Monster Magnet show I was super high on meth and weed and got really paranoid and weird and just focused on the music and then had a cosmic revelation. White Zombie were cool, and let us drink all their beer.
Ran alot this week. Diet was marginal, I kept getting fries, spaghetti, etc.
My left eye is still fucked, but improving. Colors are colors again instead of light or purple gray.
All the COVID-19 theater ends in Washington on the 30th. Can’t wait.
Glad to hear the eye is getting better.
I’ve already got a needle phobia (which has saved me from a lot of regrettable tattoos), eyes just make it worse. The theater ended here on June 2nd, I’ve been prioritizing my spending while out and about to go to the places that fought the rules and shifting away from those who rolled over.
“At a Monster Magnet show I was super high on meth and weed and got really paranoid and weird and just focused on the music and then had a cosmic revelation. White Zombie were cool, and let us drink all their beer.”
Why do I feel like you must have had a much more interesting life than me.
Hopefully, gov Brownshirt will follow WA’s lead (she usually does) and lets the whole thing go at that point too.
Glad you are improving egould.
Right on chafed. We are down in Mexico right now so I will be returning to no mask California and at least that will make me happy as this year has tested my already deep hatred for what has become of my state of birth and (still) current residence. For the past month I have been not wearing a mask at all when I go into customers’ houses. My policy changed to they will have to specifically ask me to wear one, and no one did so I did not (although 1 or 2 wore one themselves). Don’t ask, don’t tell.
184.8, goal is 184.0.
Just take a big dump.
Hallelujah! Great job dude!

Yes, use a browser.

Fuck Newsom.
Weight is 262.4 lbs at 26.0% bodyfat.
Next week is the check-in for the ongoing challenge?
Good work and yes it is.
Thanks. We’ll see how close I get to my goal of “less than 260 lbs”. Based on my diet last week, I wasn’t expecting that weight drop.
Old guy update. Still walking 10 miles or so aday and of course golfing, but I have added a daily kayak run of about 2 miles upstream, around an island and back. The upper body workout feels great, and Lord knows I can use some more muscle,
135 Lb.
Old man, if you’re interested, the girlfriend and I will be in the western Ohio area next weekend. Put-In-Bay over the weekend with Sandusky in the books for Sunday through Tuesday.
Hmm, that may work for me, I’ll see what I can do and contact you if I can get down there.sounds fun.
I’m down around 135 too, with a pocket full of change. Going to go skate at Pedlow in about a half an hour. Too hot out for Baldy. I’m going back as soon as it gets down to somewhere near 70 or so.
Y’all is dwarves and shit. I dream of one day getting back down to 170-175. When I was at my most Glibfittest, 2 years ago, I was 172 and everyone called me skinny. I needed to put on some muscle, but wound up putting fat back on instead.
5’11” is not a Dwarf, Concentration camp victim? Maybe…
OK. Yusef needs someone who can make a sammich.
We have a volunteer:

That would cause me to burn even more calories.
You mean next December? the IE is always blazing hot, nice to know you still skate, Rock on!
Yeah, but it’s heatwave week out here. A buck and change in the valley. Can’t even imagine the IE up in the hills. Nope.
Take a drive up Mt. Baldy road to Ice House Canyon, the creek is always 49 degrees, it’s about 15 minutes from the Pipe.
Good job Yusef.
Happy Father’s day to all you male (chauvinist) Glib wokesters!
But you repeat yourself.
Happy Father’s Day to you too!
But I’m not a wokester!
The clock tower may be needed to the north. Gov Kunt isn’t getting her 70% vaccination that was expected by Monday. She has yet to announce whether she’s going to stick to it as rest of the surrounding states are maskless or weasel a new explanation (like she did to avoid putting counties into lockdown as rebellion started showing signs) for ditching them.
Noticed that the regular pizza place we go to had entirely new staff yesterday and a sign saying they were closed Thurs and Sunday due to staffing. That’s new this week. I think it’s gone from excessively generous employment benefits as the possible driver to wage inflation competition as businesses boost wages or hiring bonuses. If you’re in an entry level job, it would be downright stupid to stay where you are instead of hopping to more money.
I’ve seen handwritten signs on a couple of store fronts this weekend saying they were closed for [x] days due to staffing shortages. Some of the stores were chains, so it’s not just hitting the local businesses.
My son has been telling me recently that you cannot get food or alcohol delivery there because they don’t have any drivers. Guess folks can make more by not working.
One of the Lyft/Uber rides this weekend cost over $50. For under 15 miles, because of a driver shortage.
But it was date night/
wastingenjoying some of a bonus check. It’s like that here now too. A driver for Uber recently told me to use Lyft, lol. That’s how bad it is. But you can get stuff delivered still.
They just opened up a new liquor store here that says they actually deliver on Sunday. Previously there were not any after the local deli closed down because of the lockdowns after 60 years in the same location.
So I decided to check it out and then I got the message about which (((holidays))) they don’t deliver on and then something about Friday’s and candle lighting (wut?), and then that they require a $50 minimum purchase, lol. $50? WTF? I don’t need $50 worth of beer, I was just checking y’all out. My wife spent $150 on wine yesterday, which it will take her 3 years to drink. I don’t want to be poor again!
$50? That’s easy to break.
/looks at the two bottles of gin I brought home.
Dude, it’s not for me. I have a fridge full of beer. Drizly only requires 25-30 bucks for delivery and they are extremely fast and reliable. For $30 the other day, I got like 5 4 packs of Carlsberg, delivered.
It’s one mile from here. I didn’t feel like driving down there and I’m not paying $50 for beer today just to check them out. Maybe next Sunday I’ll try it out.
And I don’t drink hard liquor anymore, it’s bad for you, heart and liver.
Hi Big Chafed, Thanks for final Rona edition and greetings from NOCal. Great song! Really amp’d up the mileage and elevation this weekend (Sat and Sun). 18 miles, 2400 foot elevation. Weather was 50-70 breezy/cool with early 6 am starts; dog was doing some pace setting, which she hasn’t done in years. The colder temps seem easier on her…no sleeping in this summer for me.
G-fit update: Sleep was very good. Food was very protein but too carbie. Hike mileage was way up to 52 miles this week. Wim Hoff/meditative “ancient man” techniques; Didn’t do it this week. Weight up 3# at 175. The 2 Bs (Bread and Booze) really fouled up weight this week. Can’t out-train the cocktail tumbler.
Goals: Meeting goal weight range max (175-170). Still not dead from Covid…
I am fasting on Monday with the misses since I am planning on indulging later today with some Key Lime Pie.
Covid Update: I was checking the PANDA site data. There is some weird stats coming out of Peru. Their deaths per MM are greater than 2X the next closest country at 6000 per. They have 3 times the deaths of Cali (10MM more people here), which used some pretty liberal definitions of Covid caused deaths. Anyway, I think there is some pretty aggressive political upheaval in Peru. I guess getting rid of your political adversaries and counting as Covid deaths is the “New Normal” for third world countries. That is putting a considerable kink in my plans for expatriating. Shit.
Roar Back Better: Looks like Gavi is using my tax rebate to buy him some votes by giving money to families, free PreK and other freebies. He’s got issues and I’m gonna pay. This recall is looking really great…
De todos modos, ¡tenga una gran semana y sáltese una comida o tres!
Got my first body comp test in a while as my work was offering.
191.5 lbs, 14.2% body fat.
I’m actually surprised I’ve been able to stay in reasonably good shape between lil ‘rona and q-ette. I force myself to go to the gym at least twice a week. Since my back injury four years ago I’ve really had to become creative with my workouts. Lots of body weight stuff, no barbell, dumbbells where I can. Trying to stay keto as much as I can.
Great job Q.
I voluntarily went to the office last week for the first time in like 16 months.
My walk from train to office is around 1.6 miles. Wearing comfortable, but appropriate dress shoes wow did my legs and feet hurt. I’ve got to get back to walking more while working at home.
I’m required to wear a mask at the office, but only three of us showed up well spaced apart so we ignored that rule.
Worst part of the day was the walk back , warming up and putting on the damn mask in the station, track and train ride home. I’m hopeful the CDC relaxes that requirement by September when I have to go to the office again three days a week.
Work announced Friday afternoon that starting Monday the vaxed don’t need to mask or social distance. They even supplied a handy URL for the mandatory disclosure of your status
My expectation with NY’s change in rules is that my company will drop its mask requirements for vaccinated.
My expectation given our culture is that it will be on your honor for status.
My company stated they will not be requiring disclosure of your prick status and I expect them to keep their word.
I have a feeling the (((owners))) have seen this story before and aren’t having it with the two-tier society the chickenshit woke brigade so desperately want.
??
Triple homicide suspect on the run crashed his stolen pickup one county over Friday afternoon. Sheriff’s office told nearby residents to shelter in place as they were searching for him. He turned himself in this morning. In Wisconsin, 2000 miles away.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is trash and Michael Cera is boring and one-dimensional in general.
Fight me.
/throws down
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is a great movie to watch while drinking, and is entertaining. I do not expect high theater from beer/comic movies. The real key is to understand that Scott is an asshole throughout the movie, and isn’t a hero.
I think I remember that movie. You have to watch it again and keep in mind that the protagonist is bat shit schizophrenic.
Perhaps the movie would have been better if they had cast someone other than Cera in the title role. I am unable to see him as a hero or a villain or as anything really. He’s as compelling as a bottle of Kaopectate and about as assertive. He’s O’Doul’s, meatless lasagna and a white Chevy Caprice all rolled into one.
Further: trying to convince me that he dated Brie Larson stretches my suspension of disbelief to the breaking point.
That’s kind of the point.
As egould mentions below, Scott Pilgrim isn’t a compelling character. He’s a sketch of a character that is not a good person. I’m entertained by how many MCU actors are in the film as well. I’ll also throw down to defend the Cornetto trilogy from Edgar Wright as well.
Simon Pegg can do no wrong.
The greater good!
World’s End was a disappointment at best.
The Caprice was generally a forgettable car; however, a 1996 Chevy Caprice LTZ was basically Clark Kent version of the Chevy Impala SS – it was LT-1 powered luxury sedan. I suggest you meant Camry. Also, Brie Larson can look fantastic and meh in the same movie. Watch Marky Mark’s horrible abortion of “The Gambler” for an example of this. Watch the original James Caan “The Gambler” where Lauren Hutton shows you how to effortlessly look hot throughout a movie.
I regularly confuse Michael Cera and John Cena.
Who?
The vegan snark redeems it.
Scott Pilgrim the character is supposed to be a boring person. He’s pretty lame. Great movie. Fun watch.
I threw out the movie after watching. Not worth remembering, let alone arguing over.
Michael Cera must be related to someone in the industry.
Thanks, Chafed, for your efforts these past months, attempting to help us keep our sanity.
I’ve been home (from the hospital) almost 2 months. It’s been an educational ride, every little goal, every slight new add on has been met with a little difficulty and great joy. Just being able to swing both legs into bed at the same time, with little and no pain is met with joy. Getting the go ahead to use the bad leg with some weight on the walker was reason to party. Stand up (with reassurance of the walker) to wash my hands is great, take a shower, get dressed with no help. Small things indeed but what an aid to self esteem.
For a few days I had been thinking of going to the garage, see if I could straddle the lawn mover and drive around. Well, Friday I did that. I had to learn how to get my foot over the middle with out getting it stuck some place. Drove around, cut a little grass, drove to the garden, checked the bees and looked at the truck sitting there, Hmmm, can I get in?
Yesterday I put the keys in my pocket, walkered out to garage, was able to use a grab bar in the truck and get seated, fairly comfortably. The rest fell into place, took a short drive around, just to see if my foot would go easily from the gas to the brake, and it did . Tomorrow I’ll take Mrs F to the Podunk store and she can get some expendables. Fortunately there is no traffic, big parking lot, every trip will be a little farther. I don’t want to drive in traffic until I’m confident that I have the reflexs and strength again.
These little things are yuuuuggge for me, things that we take for granted, until they’re not. I lost a lot of weight, skinny arms and legs but now putting the lbs on around the belly. Still get tired easily but get a boost every day over some trivial accomplishment.
Thanks for the article and watching the improvements of friends I haven’t met have been a motivation as well.
Very happy to hear about your successes!
+1
Fourscore has got wheels again!
Congratulations, that drive must have felt like a release.
And he’s got a hot date lined up for tomorrow!
Last night I was planning my drives like a 15 year old when he discovers his Dad’s car keys when his
Dad is out of town and Mom is working.
First to the village shopping (tomorrow), then in a another day to Cross Lake and drive the circle trip, then the country roads east of the village, returning via the east circle. Damn, hope I don’t get caught.
Life is small victories again, like 4th grade and long division. Thanks, everyo.ne, for the encouragement
It’s good to hear you are getting better.
I’m so glad you are getting better Fourscore.
Meal prepping for the week:
Seared up some andouille, added some chopped tomatoes, and simmered in https://www.kevinsnaturalfoods.com/products/cilantro-lime-sauce
Smells yummy.
Meal prepping big bbq Sunday. https://twitter.com/egould310/status/1406720439653601281?s=21
I’ll rub everything with a nice rib rub, roast it all in the oven. Slather with bbq sauce to finish. Leftovers for weeks.
Rock on!

Depends. If they’re both Brazilian, he’ll need the industrial nuclear powered ones and he’ll still probably die.
Heh.
knock wood
Is that what we’re calling it? Well, it is a good way to lose weight. Down to 285 lbs, which is, if I remember correctly, a six pound reduction since I last checked in. I credit the cantaloupes I’ve been eating (small portions, of course).
Glibfittish:
Two matches in two days. The exercise is generally a couple hours of light work setting up/tearing down, somewhat less than two minutes of sprints, and four hours standing in the heat. I do seem to be acclimating to the weather, though I did get a thigh cramp ours after the second match.
But it keeps me out of the house and away form snacks. I can trust my competition belt that I’m smaller than I was — it doesn’t stretch. According to my everyday belt, I’m only an inch larger in the waist than before the lockdowns, but leather stretches, so it’s probably lying.
I was in a small town in Texas today, and was waiting to cross a street at a small intersection, while someone in what looked like a road worker’s safety vest directed traffic. A group of people started crossing while a car halted in the intersection, and the guy in the vest started yelling at them to go back, even though they were midway across the intersection. His voice got more and more threatening, until the group meekly went back.
I was going, WTF? They were already halfway to the other side. Who is this power tripping asshole?
“Then the guy in the vest explained that if anyone else wanted to ignore him, they could do so, if they didn’t mind getting a citation and a court date.
That was when I took a closer look and saw the faded word “police” printed in small-ish letters on the safety vest.
So, where do you demote a cop after directing traffic?
https://youtu.be/Z7-TTWgiYL4
Ummmm….is today the day we’re supposed to announce whether we met our fitness goal? Or do we have one more week?
::crosses as many fingers as possible and mutters, “One more week! One more week!”::
Of course, my plans this coming weekend involve thoroughly blowing my diet with great gusto and pleasure and no regrets whatsoever! 😀
what about ragerts?
If you cover them with cheese, I’ll eat them, too.
A tiny accomplishment: At the ballpark today, all I had to eat was the food service’s “Summertime Salad,” which is actually quite tasty, with strawberries, blackberries, big chunks of walnut, and what seems to be some sort of berry vinaigrette dressing. And lettuce. It helped that we left early because it was just too daggone hot.
You have one more week GT.
Yay! Thank you! I’ll be sure to weigh myself BEFORE we bust out the BBQ, mac & cheese (if conditions permit,) green beans, cornbread, slaw and PIE!!! (Strawberry rhubarb AND “Burst O’Berry! And EXTRA CREAMY Reddi-wip!)
I step on the scale early in the morning so I have a consistant reference point for a lot of other variables. So it’s still a legitimate measurement.
That’s my usual weigh-in time, too. However, I HAVE been known to check more than once a day. I probably shouldn’t do that – for the sake of my mental health.
I have finally lost the 25 lbs. I put on during the Covid theater. Opioid-related nausea works wonders for reducing your appetite! I’m out of Hydrocodone now, though. Hopefully I can lose the next 25 lbs. And the 25 lbs. after that. That would put me at the weight I was when I last jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.
Titanium knee is still swollen. I can straighten it to 10 degrees and bend it to about 60 degrees. It would be helpful if it had more range. I wince in pain every time I sit down in a chair and bend it too far. I am finally able to put my full weight on it though. The other knee is acting up as it has taken on more of the work of moving my fat ass around. The faster the titanium knee gets to 100%, the sooner I can get the other knee replaced.
Going a little stir-crazy during at-home recovery.
Oof. Knee replacement is a big decision: when DOES pain and at-home recovery seem like a good idea? But I’ve never heard anyone say they regretted it once it was done. Usually the opposite; they wonder why they didn’t do it earlier!
Best of luck with the healing and then with the continued weight loss.
I’ve ignored my diet, and it shows . Time to get disciplined again. Last night was a start: scallops and mushroom/spinach risotto. Yummy.
I am of the opinion, if it is an option, to start at a rehabilitation facility instead of starting rehab at home. You get more therapy and don’t have to rely on your family so much.
One thing I do want to emphasize is to do your rehabilitation exercises religiously. It helps.
I was encouraged to go home and continue my therapy there. I had Therapy people come 2-3 times a week, they were more like a visitor, while they encouraged the therapy they showed me what to do but not much more. After a couple weeks they decided I was progressing well on my own and I didn’t need them anymore.
Absolutely need to do the therapy, psychologically and well as physically. Soon I’ll have to learn how to walk with out the walker. I tried a couple little steps a day or two ago but I’ll need to conquer the fear of falling.
“Opioid-related nausea works wonders for reducing your appetite! I’m out of Hydrocodone now, though.”
It works really well for me. Even a low dose of any opioid and I’ll be projectile vomiting for hours and then bedridden with extreme nausea for at least 24-36 hours.
I have no idea how anyone can take that stuff, let alone get addicted to it.
I agree. I don’t understand how people can get addicted to it. It generally is not a pleasant experience for me.
I hope your knee gets to 100% soon.
Thanks
Good show, Nick, both on the weight loss and the new knee. When you get the other new knee put those one way plane rides back in the memory file.
I was very close to doing the same thing 55 years ago, at the last minute I was offered an option that conflicted and that’s the direction I went.
The pain will subside, I’m sure, I was on the Oxycontin for about 10 days but less and less, a week after I got home I quit the Tylenol. You’ll need to learn how to walk again.
I wore pajamas only for a couple months, like Hugh Hefner but no round bed and absolutely different companionship. I started wearing street clothes about 10 days ago and what a difference it made, even as no one came and I didn’t go anywhere, but to feel like a human being again.
Your stir crazyness will be a motivator to get well faster. Going outside, alone has been great, even if its difficult and tiring.
Get well soon!
Congrats on the weight loss. I hope PT is able to help you get a better range of motion.
Chafed!
Happy father’s day, brother. So happy the gym is back!
I saw that Glenn Lowry video and yes, I love him too. No homo. (OK, maybe a little)
I’m a few weeks away from losing my lifting pals and it’s really fucking tough. The only good thing about the ‘vid was that it got me out of the Globo-Gym and into a place where I can use chalk and vulgarity liberally.
But the worst thing is moving away from the superior MinneGlibs.
Have a great week GlibFitters.
Who are they going to use as whipping boy when you’re gone??
Jimbo will try to use Leap, but that’s gonna be brutal.
Leap is still around? Why doesn’t he comment any more?
Leap is taking care of his family and his company. He’s a beast.
What a country! If you buy ammo in MA you must show your LTC or FID cards (a firearm license). But I ordered some ammo online and it was dropped on my porch and sat there for more than 3 hours. FedEx and UPS don’t even try to ring the door bell. This in a state where possession–without a license–of a once-fired case is technically a felony.
?
Jesus tapdancing Christ in the foothills. How do you stand it? I thought Colorado was bad.
Compared to the country where I grew up, MA is a gun owner paradise.
Shoot, shovel, and shut up.
Consider yourself lucky. It’s illegal to ammo shipped to your home in the People’s Republic of California.
Many online retailers do not ship ammo to MA. Those who do must be either very sophisticated to decipher that it’s not illegal or unaware that it’s even an issue.
Where did you grow up that MA is, comparatively, a gun owners paradise?
Soviet Union.
That explains it.
But they had such great sex!

I have neglected to up my reading time and have a few books going but really wanted to finish David Goggins book so I got in on audio and listen to it at work during mindless tasks. Holy shit the man is insane. His kind of insanity is something that I find inspiring unlike some of the weak glibs.
I dropped off the intermittent fasting this week due to a few hangry episodes on the one day I did a 17 hour. I have been super busy at work and hotter than balls so water and protein laden snacks was my attack. I feel good and just mixed a rehydration tequila.
I feel the same way about Goggins.
Day 15 in the books of my 100 days: 1 squat/1 pushup/1 situp, then 2/2/2, 3/3/3, etc.
Nothing spectacular, but my eating habits have also been so much better. Feels good to just do the incremental work and know that in another few months I’ll be on the receiving end of the dividends. It’s like putting $10 in savings every week. Doesn’t seem like much, but it’s the power of the consistency, of staying the course, and that’s why I picked this as a goal in the midst of so many other changes in our life.
Speaking of which, two weeks until the movers show up and we flee the pitiless, rainless heat here in the Valley of the Sun. Can’t wait for KC, for rainstorms, and for deciduous trees.
Stay frosty, Glibs! Keep on keepin’ on.
I hear they have some pretty little women there, you can get you one.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9O8XjZTrp4
Like the French knights, “I Already Got One!”
w00h00!!! Can’t wait to meet you and the missus!
Same, Moj! We should be getting settled in during the middle of July. We have a family trip (with Mrs. Ozy’s family) down to SW Missouri (one of the big lakes, but not The Big One) at the end of July, but we should be all calmed down after that. Our new place is in Olathe and we’re all excited to get the move done.
I’ll reach out when we get up there.
Welcome to KC, Ozy! Plenty of room here for more Glibs.
Thx, ‘Tesian. We’ll definitely have a Glib meetup soon.
Wait, you’re moving into the KC area? Sign me up, yo!
Day 15 in the books of my 100 days: 1 squat/1 pushup/1 situp, then 2/2/2, 3/3/3, etc.
When you guys bring these up I say………Ya, I am doing it! Then flake out. I need to quit flaking out. I am weak!
You are moving to the wrong Olathe. The one in CO has better sweet corn.
I’m looking forward to sweet corn and, well, everything – all of the Life – that comes with having some moisture.
I know it sounds stupidly obvious, but just set yourself a daily alarm on your phone: 7 am, or 3 pm, or whatever. When all it is is 1 squat, it’s so easy to do. Same through the first two weeks. It’s really just tricking yourself by building a habit because the ask is so ridiculously low.
“Of course I can take the 2 minutes for 3 squats, 3 pushups, and 3 situps!”
And by the time you get to 20, it’s now ingrained – and you’re surprised by the difference even that little bit makes.
Then you’re looking forward to it. The thirties (generally speaking) get to be a bit of a grind, but then the 40s hit and now you’re seeing and feeling the results – and so are others. And that helps a lot.
You can do it. And start any day – I’m only 15 ahead of you. Start now and let’s check-in next week, ‘sloper!
Glenn Loury? Who’s he?
Economist and academic Glenn Loury on Sunday said the United States should “get beyond race” and reparations would be “disastrous” for the future of America.
Loury, an economics professor at Brown University, appeared on ABC’s “This Week” to discuss critical race theory and Juneteenth becoming a federal holiday, when he was asked by anchor George Stephanopoulos about how Americans can “bridge the divide” on these issues dealing with race.
“I think we should get beyond race. I know I’m spitting in the wind when I say that. I know no one wants to hear it. I think the right story here is that it’s the American story. We’re all in this thing together. I know that’s very easy to say,” said Loury, the first Black tenured economics professor at Harvard University. “I think Martin Luther King got it right in 1963. I think that the racialization of this discussion of crime and violence, and policing, of poverty and wealth and whatnot is bad for America.”
“I think talking about reparations, whatever the moral argument might be, is disastrous for the future of this country,” Loury continued. “Black people should not be trying to cut a separate deal with America. Let’s make the country a good country for everybody and we’ll be on the right track.”
Earlier in the interview, Loury was asked about conservatives expressing concerns about critical race theory and whether he agreed with their definition. Loury responded by saying he believes their definition is “fine” and that their concerns revolve around the “narrative” being pushed.
“I think the definition is fine as far as it goes. I think the concern is about the narrative. It’s about what is the story of the American project and where does race fit into that,” Loury said. “I think it’s a bit like arguments about how do you teach evolution versus creationism or what do you do about sex education in the schools where people are concerned a certain narrative, a certain view, which is very uncharitable to the American project.”
Loury was then asked whether he would ban critical race theory in schools.
“No I wouldn’t do that no more than I would ban the teaching of Marxism. I wouldn’t ban it. I would argue against it,” Loury said.
To be honest, I don’t remember ever hearing of him before. I guess the Ivy League is ashamed of him, what with all that false consciousness and whatnot.
“I wouldn’t ban it. I would argue against it.”
Sure he would, until he gets canceled or fired that is. The fact is that CRT isn’t a subject of lessons, it’s a pernicious philosophy and is used as a curriculum in and of itself. Seems like a good but naive fellow.
Bullshit. He has been an outspoken critic of CRT.
I’m sure he has been and is but his methods of combating it don’t seem aggressive enough in my estimation. Teaching what CRT is is fine but approaching lesson plans and curricula from that perspective is what’s being done more and more. He’s a tenured academic and can argue against it with few repercussions. For students and people without robust job protections, good luck to them.
I think, in order to decide what the right path is (as far as society goes), people should ask themselves, and proponents of each polar opposite (colorblindness vs racialization) “what is the end state of this set of premises/course of action?”
And, if there is no clearly identifiable end state, either should be thrown out as an option. We’re talking about a societal problem here. We need problem solvers, not perpetuation.
Someone at ABC is getting fired for allowing him on air.
That wouldn’t surprise me.
Get beyond race? That’s just crazy talk.
Yeah, no kidding. It is still required in every business I have visited since last week when Cuomo ended the mandate for everyone except Bruce Springsteen and Foo Fighters fans.
My 2nd favorite supermarket had a sign at the checkout stand a couple weeks ago saying that masks are optional but I haven’t been there since. Maybe I’ll check it out tomorrow.
I will reluctantly play along with business owners who are too chickenshit to stop the theater but my patience will run out eventually.
All the businesses in my small southern town allow the wearing of masks if one wants but it’s most definitely not required. The only people I see still wearing them look pretty frail so I don’t necessarily blame them.
Didn’t Cuomo determine Springsteen fans who sniff their own farts are inoculated?
I thought I was almost out of tequila.
But I went downstairs and looked into the dusty boxes we filled before our home renovation anyway.
Now I have a bottle of Jose Cuervo Especial and a bottle of Jose Cuervo Black Medallion (each half full) in addition to the half ounce of Hornitos Plata that initiated my original angst.
Result: fresh lime Margaritas!
We need to talk about cheap tequila. Jose Cuervo is not a good cheap tequila. Hornitos, makes some good stuff, but it is not cheap around here. My go to for cheap mixer tequila is Exotico. I prefer the Blanco for my needs but Repisado would fit in other applications. I am but lowly poor white trash otherwise I would be drinking Don Julio which makes some superb stuff. Espolon used to be a good cheap tequila but it got trendy so the price spiked in my local.
Yeah, that’s why I still had the Cuervo, but the Hornitos was almost empty. I totally forgot I even had the Cuervo. I was keeping it around for parties, but I wanted a Margarita, so I used some of it rather than driving out to get a bottle of new Hornitos.
Father’s Day! No dishes for me.
We need problem solvers, not perpetuation.
Something something good money to be made prolonging the problem.
Nothing that 6 T won’t cure. We’ll be able to hire more government workers to watch those few shovelers. We’re gonna conquer this infrastructure shortfall before the Chinese know what hit them.

Yusuf! You helped inspire a dive in historical events today via links.
Here’s a favorite channel of mine:
https://youtu.be/bQy-O_kF7GI
Disclaimer: At times this channel has been accused of being apologizist for overtly statist regimes. I disagree with that accusation. The channel is usually rather upfront about the fact that many of these accounts are officially state sponsored “gorillas in the mists” journeys designed to paint the regimes and cultures sponsoring these expeditions in a favorable light. The Pravda “journalists” in America being a prime example.
That being said, many kernels of truth can be found in the more honest accounts. I believe this is one of these videos.
Back at ya! I’ll check it out now, thanks,
OK this is reaaly cool, thanks again,
You bet!
Voices of the Past is a good channel.
Yep, yep!
No interference by the producers, just a verbatim account from the narrator. Interpret the deeper meaning behind the words as you will…sometimes that’s easy, sometimes that takes more than a minute or two of thought if you’re a middling dipshit.
I went into a 7-11 with my kid and they had removed the 10 pages of regs from the window. There’s literally about 10-12 8.5″x11″ pages detailing what’s permissible at every store out here, but 7-11 had taken theirs down. We, of course, sauntered on in with no masks. Everyone else had masks still. When I got to the register, one of the ladies asked the male cashier, very worriedly if we needed masks and he just kind of shushed her so he could finish the transaction. The next guy that came in had no mask either, so worried lady is in for quite a bit of stressing out. If there’s no sign requiring it, I’m headed in with no feed bag.
Yeah, the fallout is going to be very interesting. What happens when Cuomo, of all people, allows us a little freedom and nobody takes it?! As seems to be happening now.
Back when it all started, people were saying that we’d have to lockdown and I said, “no, that’s what China does. It’ll never fly here” And it flew here. Now, the fear is so deeply ingrained that it’s hard to get people to just fucking relax and live normal lives. The ‘vid is almost completely gone and it still drives them into a frenzy. I’m not very confident for our future. Even at it’s peak, it never justified all of this bullshit and these people just won’t let go of the security theater.
For those (including me) who believe that politics lags culture, what we’re witnessing with the lockdowns shouldn’t be – and isn’t – surprising.
We have garbage politicians because we have a garbage culture right now. We have lockdowns and riots with no pushback because we have outsourced the responsibility that comes with being a free people to “others.” Be it the cops for security, politicians or judges to protect and preserve our freedom, the bullshit security theater of the TSA, NSA, all of it – these are all symptoms of the underlying disease.
They are also reinforcers and accelerators of the disease, too.
But at heart, we don’t have enough people with Freedom and Liberty in their hearts; we don’t have enough people outraged at the notion of govt playing daddy to all of us. We don’t have enough people to reinforce each other’s offense at govt overreach.
Govt indoctrination and obedience centers – aka public schools – along with politicians and the Marxists, have changed the entire nature of the discussion. And yes, the lawyers, they are absolutely to blame.
It’s okay, though. It makes us part of the Remnant – and I, for one, wouldn’t have it any other way.
It seems we are going old guard, trying to keep th flame alive. My son is one of the few future guardians of our freedom, most of his generation are failed children,
It’s a struggle with my kid. I want him to be individualist and not accept whatever the authorities force upon him, but he’s very strong willed and rebellious naturally. I have to somehow find the exact sweet spot that keeps him from becoming an asshole, but also keeps him from becoming a member of the herd. It’s easy to keep him from mindless submission. It’s the other part I struggle with.
I consider myself lucky in the long run, my kids are fiercely independent and very Libertarian, they both voted for RON!
It surprised me at the beginning. I guess I was too deep in my bubble. I can see how we got here, though. Being a pussy assed sniveler has become the rule rather than the exception. Most people don’t pay much attention and therefore don’t realize that all the mainstream sources are lying. They just buy the first line of bullshit that’s fed to them. Once the TMITE figured that out, they went totally nuts and here we are. It’s funny that the Karen meme began in this era. These people don’t seem to realize that they are a unified front of Karendom. They are demanding to speak to the collective manager of us all and insisting on all the things they think they are entitled to. And lying/cheating and using racism to get it.
There are people so brainwashed that when you try to tell them that 2.2 million Americans die EVERY YEAR, as a means of providing comparison that this whole thing really is not some MASSIVE, UNPRECEDENTED wave of death, they refuse to believe it. They simply cannot – will not – hear anything that contradicts The Narrative.
There is nothing to be done for those people; they WANT to be enslaved. We sometimes forget how many people wanted to stay English tax-donkeys. How there were blacks that did not support emancipation.
It may be uncomfortable to hear, but there are a TON of people who want to be told what to do, who do not want the responsibilities that come with Freedom…because that also means being accountable, not being able to blame anyone else for when shit goes wrong. People loooovvvee to bitch about what’s wrong, but want no part of the hard work that is a consequence of self-ownership.
Again – they’re emotional children. We have a society of teenagers: they want everything, want to do none of the work, and accept no responsibility for why things are fucked up.
I don’t think it’s an accident.
I wish I could write pretty like you Ozy, you read my thoughts exactly, god dmned lemmings,
Yes, blackjack, that Bezmenov video is absolute gold. I’m surprised it’s still up.
Youtube comments are generally shit, but the ones on that one give me some hope.
A LOT of people are like, “HOLY SHIT.”
It’s tough to argue with the guy with the thick Soviet accent who was one of their greatest spies telling the future – their present – right in front of their eyes.
Time to share that on Derpbook and Twitter and see what happens.
But at heart, we don’t have enough people with Freedom and Liberty in their hearts
I’d go a level deeper even. Almost nobody can articulate the “whys” behind Freedom and Liberty. Bunch of utilitarians quibbling details from a rotten foundation.
Well, even the libertarian party want’s nothing to do with all of that icky freedom stuff anymore. It’s all about forcing others to do what you think they ought to. Only question now is how do we make sure the guy who wants to do the same forcing we want always has power. That’s why they hated OMB so bad. They dreamt of him forcing them in ways opposite of how they would force you and me.
It’s all about forcing others to do what you think they ought to.
Yes. What feels good to me is mandatory. What feels bad to me is illegal.
It’s a complete lack of empathy stemming from soviet-style demoralization. That’s how you get to “you have your truth and I have mine”.
I pointed out to a coworker that I spent a total of 14 days, many of them maskless, in a hospital bed, during peak freakout, in NYC (he is in Indiana) – and nothing else happened. His reply was “that’s not how it works”. I bit my tongue. That was the first and last time I volunteered any information about my thoughts on all of this at work.
I laughed, Rhy, I was there 16 days, no mask. When I left my room for therapy I had to mask up at the door to my room. The therapy people carried an extra mask for me. In the room every one else was masked, except the old guy most likely to need one, only I knew I didn’t need one either.
I complained I couldn’t understand them, partly true because my hearing is not young anymore.
Mask mandate is still essentially in full force here. Michaels had no sign and Petsmart had masks required on both outer and inner doors. I didn’t wear a mask I either and no one said anything about it including the cashiers.
I’ve been watching some British produced cooking shows (from a few years ago, before the pandemic). *Adjusts tin foil chapeau* I have found that older Brit cooking history shows really made a point of saying the rationing of WWII led to the healthiest diet. As in, almost identical phrasing. The current shows I’m watching (2015+) have all been emphasizing how cooking at home is more economical and also tastes better. Like, this is emphasized in every episode. Hmm.
Doesn’t seem connected to the 2008 problems, as the shows are much later. Hmm.
Everyone hated the rationing cuisine. It led to the poor reputation of british food that still haunts them today.
The black market quickly sprung up in the US. The economy was just coming out of the Depression and it was still a cash economy. Almost everyone knew ‘someone’ but everyone was afraid of losing their connection so there was not much sharing of info. My dad got 5 gals of rationed gas but had access to gas as a truck driver. It was an unspoken game, much like PX cigarettes and booze in the ’50-’60s in Europe.
What were the “2008 problems” and why is home cooking being cheaper and better “tin foil hat” territory? I thought that was just common knowledge.
I think what she’s getting at is that we are being prepared for the way deprivation will be spun in the very near future.
The economic consequences of high fuel costs and mandated electric trucking fleets, a $15 minimum wage, higher taxes for middle class, and other Democrat / Statist policies are obvious, even to true-blue Dems.
Our dollars are losing purchasing power, and soon we will have to eat out less often, not be able to find out-of-season produce (won’t be feasible to ship from around the globe anymore), and generally make do with less.
They’re hoping if they can spin it as “healthy” and natural, etc, we won’t notice that it’s a bug, not a feature.
Just like the spin they put on rationing back in the day.
Tulip,
I binge watched Clarkson’s Farm on Amazon Prime. Thank you for recommending it. Right entertaining!
I hope you’re not watching them to try and emulate British food. Fucking close to starved in that country.
Tulip, if you have never read it, I recommend Food in England by Dorothy Hartley. I bought the wife a copy a few years ago (and she is a hard-core food person) and she thought it was fascinating and highly recommended it.
In case any of you Outrage Junkies need a hit.
I bet he never sees any tigers either.
Bastiat meant a virus when talks about the unseen?
g’night glibs, see you on the other side, it was a good day…………..
Getting old sucks. I keep forgetting if I did or didn’t throw the iron in the bathtub.
was it plugged in? that’s how you can tell….
/Blown breakers,
I was gonna say, just check the water for wrinkles.
M. Night Shyamalan bought my movie rights. No spoilers, but I may be dead.
お風呂にアイロンを入れた?
Given the control panel on your typical Japanese tub I’m surprised it doesn’t have a feature to keep track.
Given the size of my tub, an iron wouldn’t fit.
But it will have a plenty of depth!
One of the things I enjoy about a Japanese tub is that you are intended to soak up to your shoulders.
I’m 5’9″ and the showers in England would not let me wet my hair unless I contorted massively. I hit my head a dozen times on ceilings over there. I’m not even tall.
Old country, old buildings. People were much shorter back then. I’m just shy of 6′ tall and would have been considered remarkably tall at the time. Those old cottages are built like rabbit warrens.
We seemed to have finally turned a corner on mask madness in Texas. The people still wearing face diapers are finally a rapidly shrinking minority. My wife is, for the first time, going maskless into stores that say vaccinated people don’t need to wear face diapers – and that is almost every store, including the employees therein.
When you’ve lost Mrs Prolefeed on masks, the con is over.
Costco on Friday afternoon was like going back to 6 months ago. So many masks….
My observation is that it’s rather starkly split on racial and gender lines.
Perhaps this should be read a little less literally: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44203/we-wear-the-mask
This particular con is over. They have established the reach of the state extends to within an atom’s distance from your face.
Can confirm – Mrs. Slumbrew accompanied me to Home Depot yesterday, maskless. She’s not quite ready to toss them in the trash yet, but that day is getting every closer.
I should note this is deepest blue Mass. Still plenty of morons walking by themselves, masked up, but their numbers are rapidly dwindling.
A couple of weeks ago, I used the cloth mask they’d given me at the YMCA to wipe the condensation from my car’s outside mirror.
If only here.
Until the CDC changes it mind I can’t get on a train without one.
It was only Thursday you were allowed to not wear one on an outdoor platform. I’d say roughly 70% of us ignored the outdoor part, but no choice on the train.
Tell me about it. My diaper is soaking wet by the time I emerge above ground in New Jersey. I can’t believe how many people put up with that for eight or ten or more hours a day. Maybe they really are “heroes” because I sure as fuck couldn’t tolerate it.
Soaking wet diapers. Old ladies at a Chip and Dales.
“Is that the foot-long?”
They keep yanking on it after they realize.
Oh, yes – Uber is requiring masks for drivers & riders – I was rushing to meet the wife at a restaurant for our anniversary on Thursday so hopped in an Uber. I didn’t want to hassle the dude driving, so I kept a mask vaguely on my face.
I should have hassled him for playing an entire Backstreet Boys album during the ride. Wouldn’t have guessed he was in the target demo – Haitian dude (guessing from the name) around 50. Wife wisely suggested, “maybe he thought that’s what white people like”.
Yeah, “public transit” requires masking. Which doesn’t do any fucking good anyway.
Someone should say it’s racist to require masking on public transit due to the disproportionate numbers of brown people using public transit. “Are you saying brown and black people are dirty and sick? Racist!”
That would probably be the quickest way to end the mask silliness.
LOL one of the old-people channels is showing a Fathers Day Bewitched marathon with alternating Darrens.

Right? C’mon Rhy… you love that shit. Enjoy the Dagwoods. 🙂

See?!
Of course it is. I mean, Bewitched.
On topic:
I didn’t realize that Dick #1 left the show due to health reasons:
Yikes.
At the end, he could only crinkle his nose.
I had a bitter argument with an older brother around 1980 that Sam wasn’t twitching her nose – she was moving her mouth back and forth to supposedly give the illusion of twitching her nose. He insisted that she was twitching her nose back and forth. I think he might have been fucking with me.
No, you’re right. Her mouth/nose twitch was enhanced a little through film magic.
your brother is/was a crazy person
Destiny denied.

Surprised she didn’t do more after that show.
She has my birthday 🙂
On topic! Just got in another hour on the treadmill.
So I rewarded myself with a little bitty cherry fry pie from the farmers’ market. 😀
Congrats on the treadmill. And enjoy the pie. The primary reason I run is so I can eat/drink whatever garbage I want. Burn 500 calories on the morning run? Sure get the fettuccine at lunch. Even Steven.
Our neighborhood Saturday morning farmers’ market was shut down all of last year and only just started up for the season this month. Yesterday morning it was raining hard until about 10 a.m., so only a handful of vendors showed up. I like to patronize these vendors as much as I can, and this early in the season, there’s not a lot of produce ready yet, so the food selection leans heavily to baked goods. 🙂
Spent another afternoon out in the yard cutting grass and edging. Looks pretty good right now but then it’ll grow back and look like a jungle again.
Found that Neighbors Complain is available through US iTunes. No need to wait for a CD to ship from Japan.

Morning, glibs.
My nighbors decided that 1pm was the perfect time to start setting off fireworks outside my window. With the AC in, the window is acoustically open (since the plastic of the AC doesn’t do a darn thing to reduce the noise)
*11pm
tldr – I didn’t get as much sleep as I’d rather have managed.
That’s not illegal? Damn some people can be inconsiderate.
Foreworks have been banned* in NY for as long as I’ve been a New Yorker, but that’s never stopped anyone. And I don’t know why they always pick midnight.
*recently, small, unexciting firework relatives were legalized in the 21st century, but they’re not the same thing.
We briefly had a problem here in GA when fireworks were legalized. Kids were blowing things until midnight many nights a week during the summer months. Now local ordinances ended that except for about 5 days per year.
It’s the beginning of whatever day they’re celebrating so it makes sense. Or maybe they’re just assholes.
Because this time of year it doesn’t get really dark until then?
Illegal? This used to be a free country.
Good morning, U & TARDy ::glances upthread:: & Sean & Yu & Stinky & rhy! ::assumes hayek is asleep::
So sorry about your inconsiderate neighbors, U. We’ve started hearing booms off in the distance in the evening, but so far (knock wood) nothing close by.
Good mornin’ to all those mentioned above plus a GT. Cool day ahead but all are pretty much the same for me.
I have good neighbors, they don’t bother me and I return the favor. My Alaskan g’daughter and husband arrive tomorrow for a few days.I’m going to be able to get rid of some stuff to the right people. Good kids.
Good morning, 4(21)! I was so happy to read yesterday about your progress! Tom T was indeed thrilled when he was cleared to drive after his “Christmas stroke.” Did I mention that when he “graduated” from PT, he bought three of his physical therapists (one from the inpatient rehab where he’d stayed for three days after his hospital release, two from the outpatient PT up the street) engraved name badges that said “Sadistic Ogre”?
I’m sure you’ll enjoy your visit with your granddaughter & grandson-in-law. Pile their vehicle high with as much stuff as you can foist upon ’em!
Only have to work three days this week before taking my employer-policy-mandated full week of vacation! I figured the last five business days of the quarter were probably as close as I’d come to “down time” before hitting the ground running on month-end AND quarter-end reports…and the inevitable avalanche of returned member quarterly statements from all those folks who don’t bother to tell us they’ve moved.
Off to work now, good day my friends, see ya tonight.
suh’ fam ?
whats goody
Good morning, homey! Did you ***ahem*** enjoy your weekend?
Between work and *that* Im quite sore.
WARSHES down 2 more Bayer Back & Body with beer….
🙂
Happy Solstice, Glibbies! I worked on Father’s Day but eldest Daughter dropped off a lemon cupcake (from scratch!) and a pack of copper sole tube socks (old Family joke). They are black in color so they’ll have to wait until Fall to be worn. I may be old but I’m not “German Tourist” old…
Good morning, Fes! And Happy Solstice, plus Happy Belated Fathers’ Day!
Please just tell me you don’t wear the socks with sandals. ::recalls own father’s footwear and shudders::
This is why they go in the drawer until first frost. Mind you, I might just wear socks with sandals just to get a rise out of the girls. 🙂
I only wear “quarter” length socks year round and IDGAF what anyone thinks about them. Black-only for a long time but I recently went with a mixture of black and gray Dickies.
PS. There is nothing wrong with socks and sandals FFS. I don’t do it because I have no practical reason to do so, but I would.
?
?
Preach !
I routinely wear socks with slides.
Maybe the problem was when my dad wore WHITE socks with sandals.
Black socks are the only color to wear. It’s what my entire active collection consists of.
(I may have some non-blakc socks in storage ‘just in case’ but I’d have to look, and don’t care to)
Oh yeah, the Solstice is now National Aboriginal Day. Way to ruin everything you Cods and Cuntes.
You guys got “Juneteenth” so we of course had to follow suit with the self-flagellation.
Canada Day celebrations are being cancelled all over the country. They found a shit-load of unmarked graves at an indian residential school here and the propaganda has been dialed up to 12 for the last few weeks. Divide and conquer!
Clearly the answer is to make more unmarked graves for those who keep beating the drum against the holiday.
cheaper than helicopter rides.
Wow. You guys win the self-loathing sweepstakes this year, I guess. Though the US has been putting in a good effort.
Res schools were a cruel and bad idea. Stealing little kids from their families and forcibly assimilating them to our culture was wrong. Beating them for speaking their own languages was wrong. Raping and and otherwise mistreating them was very wrong. The problem here is how it is being framed. Tuberculosis was rampant on the reserves, plus the 1918 Flu pandemic. Everyone was dropping like flies back then and poor little wooden crosses don’t survive 100+ years. It was sad and bad but ripping out the stitches doesn’t help anything.
“It was renamed National Indigenous Peoples Day in 2017.”
I wonder what they will rename it to in five years when “indigenous” becomes politically incorrect.
Hunt down Whitey day.
Every Indian that I’ve ever known has been fine with the label. Cleveland, Atlanta and Washington garb were very popular with the yutes.
Since it’s the Solstice- mandatory Kool & The Gang
That’s a crunchy bass line!
I dont know if that would fall under funk or jazz.
Id need a ruling from the Old Man.
I’d lean toward the latter. Pretty smooth tune. Thanks!
