They Say it’s Her Birthday – Open Post

by | Feb 6, 2022 | Animals, Open Post, Products You Need | 140 comments

Just some space filler to celebrate Lily’s first birthday.  The world is a lot better when you have a good person sharing it with you.  Even (especially?) if that person is a dog.

Four days old. With her siblings and mom. And my SIL.

One month old

Six weeks old

My first meeting with her at seven weeks old.

First day home

Ten weeks. Her disregard for other’s property rights is on full display.

Three months old.

Four months

Implacable. Ferocity.

Six months. Her favorite place.

Seven months. It’s hot.

The fence is finished and she can patrol the yard in earnest.

Nine months

Ten months old with mud mane and pinkening nose

One Year Old! With Birthday Bone

SPECIAL NOTE FROM SWISS SERVATOR: When I get somewhat timely and fun features, I may start giving us a Sunday 1900 Glibs Time post like this one.

    So Sweet! Nice Doggo Adahn

    • Not Adahn

She has been a lot more work than my previous ones. It’s a combination of:

      Raising her from weaning
      Alone
In a place I care about maintaining

But sometime in January she started becoming a net positive in my life.

    • slumbrew

      That’s hilarious!

    Awww….

Brought over from the dead thread since it’s an open post:

Rebel News and CTV News have reported Ottawa police have started arresting folks for helping out the Trucker Convoy.

I am starting to need a dog. Barnaby died a year ago now, and I think we are almost at a place to have another little beasty of that variety. We have four cats now, but two of us in a good-sized house, so it should be OK.

And now the wife has the ragin’ ‘Rona. Good times.

    • rhywun

It’s been over a year since I lost my kittehs Betty and Maggie. But I am in a completely different place now than I was when I got them. Single, maybe looking to relocate soon. I don’t want to raise any more right now.

      Best for the missus

RIP Bella, but no more dogs for me,

Great pics. Even a hopelessly cynical bastard who’s not particularly fond of dogs like myself might find his heart thawing just a little.

    Happy birthday, Lily.

  6. The Late P Brooks

    Bellicose bluster

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson on Sunday declared a state of emergency to help deal with an unprecedented 10-day occupation by protesting truckers that has shut down much of the core of the Canadian capital.

“(This) reflects the serious danger and threat to the safety and security of residents posed by the ongoing demonstrations and highlights the need for support from other jurisdictions and levels of government,” he said in a statement.

Watson, who complained earlier in the day that the demonstrators outnumbered police and controlled the situation, did not give details of what measures he might impose.

The “Freedom Convoy” began as a movement against a Canadian vaccine requirement for cross-border truckers but has turned into a rallying point against public health measures and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government.

The thin veneer of civilization is coming unglued.

Aaron Mate interview of Douglas MacGregor on the current Ukraine situation as well as Syria and Iraq. Most straightforward and informative interview on the subjects i’ve ever seen:

If Trump had brought this guy on earlier the world would be a better place.

    • juris imprudent

Um, he expected the invasion by now (late Jan very early Feb), so he’s almost wrong there.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

I’ll cut him a break on the timing. His evaluation of what motivated Trump, a desire to be liked by the political establishment rather than be feared, was spot on too. Trump’s a bit of a wimp it seems.

      • juris imprudent

Oh there was a lot I did agree with, and about Trump in particular, just saying that he might just be wrong about Putin’s actions. I guess I’m hoping that to be the case.

      • Loveconstitution1789

Trump tried to work with factions that would work with him based on what Trump thought would put “America first”. Lefties feared this so much that they used massive election fraud to steal election 2020 and House impeached Trump twice.

But Trump should have bullied everyone in the Executive Branch to get things done?

I know some of you folks dont get Trump but he literally has a book on his methodology called the Art of the Deal.

Fundamentally, Trump is a “principled” wheeler and dealer. Aka businessman. Its how he got that NY ice rink completed. Its how he got the tax reform law done. Its why he says open ended stuff the way he does.

      • Loveconstitution1789

I think Trump really believes that America can fix itself before its too late. Trump tries to rally everyone to help save America because he knows that hes only one guy.

I think Trump was shocked at how corrupt the bureaucracy is.

I couldnt be President because I would relay to the American public at my inauguration that I am immediately pardoning all Americans who arrest all Democrats and RINOs in govt and put them on boats to Communist China. Democrats are at war with America…again.

      • LCDR_Fish

Ukraine MinDef is apparently still saying they’re not expecting anything in the short term, but the vehicle/troop movement info on twitter is still pretty disturbing.

Also a few interesting vids floating around of poor conditions in some of the Russian (reservists?) troop areas….

  8. The Late P Brooks

Trudeau, who is isolating after testing positive for COVID-19 last week, has ruled out using the military to disband the protest. Due to security concerns, Trudeau and his family left their downtown home last weekend and his location has not been disclosed.

Pathetic little fraidy cat. What useful productive role could this loathesome waste of nutrients play in a civilized society?

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

I’m just glad Fidel’s not still around to see what a coward his son turned out to be.

  9. The Late P Brooks

A senior member of the Liberal government said the ease with which the convoy shut down the area around the parliament and the seeming impotence of police was a “national humiliation”.

Right. That’s what is humiliating about this whole drama.

    • juris imprudent

Maybe if the govt had a bunch of weak individual sticks, all bundled together, they’d feel more power?

      • slumbrew

Maybe if there were an axe head stuck in there or something.

  10. slumbrew

Our Penny just turned two yesterday, so happy doggo birthdays all around!

  11. Animal

Whenever anyone tells me, “you can’t buy love,” I tell them, “you’ve never had a puppy.”

I want another dog. Will probably have to wait a few years, until I can retire. My occupation requires too much travel, and that’s not fair to a puppo.

  12. Annoyed Nomad

My wife wanted to turn on the Olympics for the first time. We’re watching some freestyle skiing event. Everyone is outside and wearing masks. Outside! We anticipated the competitor would take off the mask before starting their run – nope, they wear the damn mask while competing.

These are the Retard Olympics (no offense to the Special Olympics).

    • Annoyed Nomad

Okay, so now a pairs skating event is on. They are inside a skating rink. Inside a building. And these competitors don’t wear masks. These protocols make no sense. SMDH

      • Annoyed Nomad

One of the skaters from the US is named Brandon. Let’s go Brandon!

      • hayeksplosives

        So much cute.

I have a very cute and cuddly cat. But cats will never be quite the family members that dogs are.

That said, currently my cat is lying on my hip. He doesn’t sleep until I come to bed. He’s a good boy.

    • Annoyed Nomad

I used to be a big Olympics fan. I’ve attended events at three Summer Olympics (Los Angeles ’84, Atlanta ’96 and Sydney ’00). But now I just want to mock the Olympics.

      • rhywun

When I was little I was a sucker for any and all “event television”. The Olympics, of course.

But once I sat up all night watching the Jerry Lewis telethon. I guess I was around 11 or 12.

        I’m glad that went away.

      • creech

I’ve been subjected to a few hours of the Olympics (taking a break) and am already sick of the announcers and their “the world is watching so and so” nonsense. The vast majority isn’t watching and those who are will likely forget the name of the competitors five minutes after the sport is over.
Then, of course, I’m reminded that the “U.S. Curling Association has 25,000 members;” that’s more than the Libertarian Party does, so I guess “the world” cares more for sliding a rock down the ice than attempting to promote individual liberty.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

To be fair, the LP has a pretty shitty track record on individual liberty as of late.

      • MikeS

And curling is a very interesting sport when one takes the time to understand it.

The truckers should start waving BLM flags just to fuck with the media and government at this point.

    • Urthona

They just wouldn’t report it. The one plant who waved the swastika flag is going in every article.

Like even literal fascists nowadays know to distance themselves. No one’s buying it.

      • Plinker762

My thought is that the swastika is more about calling out the government as acting like Nazis than a symbol of support for some Nazi party to take power.

  22. straffinrun

Russian false flags are imminent. We should preemptively nuke them.

    • Loveconstitution1789

Why cant we condemn Russian aggression against Ukrainians AND not nuke Russia?

        I love dog talk

I’m an aussie addict but haven’t had a dog in this part of my life. We’re looking for a new home built around being a happy place for an aussie. I could have a lesser dog now in the house we own, but I don’t want anything but the best. I’ll admit that border collies are ever so slightly smarter, but an aussie is the ultimate dog: all the brains, all the love, all the loyalty, all the energy.

      • Not Adahn

Border Collies > Australian Shepherds. There really is no debate about this. Agility, Flyball, Obedience… The only place Aussies even mention a notice is in Frisbee.

And I’ve become recently enamored by Berger Blank Suisses. Depends on your lifestlye.

      • Not Adahn

I guess Aussies could be better for you if you wanted a more generic dog. Some Borer Collies can be a bit uncanny.

  23. trshmnstr the terrible

Voddie Baucham’s Fault Lines is an absolutely brilliant exposition on the SJW influence in Christian circles. I’m not finished with it yet, but he has called out the Critical Social Justice-Biblical fusion as the heresy it is, which, these days, takes a set of brass ones the size of a cruise ship.

    • slumbrew

I heard someone say, “minority hire”, which got a hearty “wut?” from me.

      Without looking, “white Hispanic”

(My tablet wanted to auto correct that to “Minotaur hire”, which would have been much cooler)

      • Brochettaward

Affirmative action is good for some laughs, if nothing else.

      • slumbrew

Nothing says “great organization” like eleven head coaches in 22 years.

      • rhywun

All these fresh-faced youngsters they’re hiring lately… I mean, come on. I can’t take an NFL coach who isn’t a bloated red-faced mess seriously.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

Both this scrawny guy and the obese old coaches make me wonder. You have 24/7 access to some of the best strength and conditioning people and equipment in existence, and you’re a bean pole or a tub of lard respectively? It’s not like you sell vacuum cleaners. You’re in an industry that requires peak athletic performance, yet it doesn’t rub off on you?

      • rhywun

It wouldn’t rub off on me. It’s not like they’re on the field.

      • slumbrew

Belichick is in ok shape for a70 year old guy.

I’m surprised Reid is still kicking.

Off the top of my head, Vrable and Salah are in good shape

    • KSuellington

“ McDaniel, who identifies himself as multiracial, joins the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mike Tomlin, Washington Commanders’ Ron Rivera and the New York Jets’ Robert Saleh as the league’s only minority head coaches. The 49ers will receive two third-round draft selections (one in 2022 and another in ’23, per a league spokesman) as compensation under the Rooney Rule for developing a minority assistant who was hired for an NFL head-coaching job.”

Is this gonna turn into one a Dolezaal thing sometime later this year? I’ve been kinda hoping the trans-racial thing takes off and we get all kinds of people identifying as all kinds of races, creeds and ethnicities.

      • Brochettaward

What’s funniest about the league’s policy is that if you develop your own minority coach and promote from within, you get nothing.

      • KSuellington

If you love your minority set them free.

      • Brochettaward

I also find it interesting that this guy went to Yale. I’m willing to bet that affirmative action played a part there, too. He’s the Elizabeth Warren of the NFL.

I can’t sit & visit with all of you this morning – I have my annual check-up at 7:15 a.m. (Ugh! Why did I ever agree to that??) Luckily, the doctor’s office is quite literally right around the corner.

I haven’t even poured my morning coffee because I don’t want to risk having the caffeine increase my blood pressure. ? (Don’t know if that’s likely, but I’m not taking any chances.)
