RJ is off and enjoying himself somewhere, leaving me to fill in for movie nights. While I don’t have quite the knowledge base to compete with some of the gems he has delivered, I hope this one lives up to his standards.
Today we bring you an under the radar cult classic from the before times of 2008, packed with stars, comic book effects, blood, repossessions, and singing. I’m not joking about the stars, this movie has Paul Sorvino, Anthony Head, Sarah Brightman, and Paris Hilton in it. What is this gem of a movie you ask?
I present to you, REPO: The Genetic Opera. As a quick synopsis, in the future, a strange disease sweeps through the world, causing death by organ failure. One company has found a way to create artificial organs. They then create a whole brand around designer organs, and selling these organs on a payment plan. If you fall behind in your payments, the company repossesses the organs from you. As you can imagine, that doesn’t bode well for the person behind on payments for most organs.
This is an opera, and all dialog is sung. There are quite a few catchy numbers throughout the movie. Some glorious overacting, and betrayals from every side. The writer also acts in the movie as the GraveRobber (yes, that’s the character’s name).
There were plans for sequels and prequels set in this universe, but the movie didn’t do as well theatrically as the studio would have liked. The rights for the universe and any hopes for more stories in movies is pretty much as dead as one of the victims of a repossession. The director and screenwriter behind this have branched out into short movies (is there a term like novella for such movies?) set in a different world called the Devil’s Carnival (which does have one sequel at this time).
I hope you enjoy one, both, or all three of the movies.
*hits play*
Hope you enjoy it.
I’m watching something with Jenny Agutter, Michael Caine, Robert Duvall, Jean Marsh, Donald Pleasence, Anthony Quayle, Donald Sutherland, and Larry Hagman.
Son of Blob?
Wow, that is quite a cast.
But does Jenny Agutter get naked?
No. I do have a film where Britt Ekland gets naked.
Noice.
What movie?
The Eagle Has Landed (1976)
Thanks!
Next in the queue has Stephen Boyd, Mel Ferrer, Alec Guinness, Sophia Loren, James Mason, Christopher Plummer, Anthony Quayle and Omar Sharif.
Fall of the Roman Empire? That’s a long ass movie.
Sign of the Cross is great. Then again, I love Claudette Colbert.
I have not seen that one. I want to get Drums Along the Mohawk.
My name is Michael Caine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-5yn3v3N8A
M*A*S*H?
I’m bad at this.
“This is an opera, and all dialog is sung.”
Yeah, not really my thing, but I’ll try to hang in there like the bat on this bottle.

A triple feature! My cup overfloweth. I am going to start Devil’s Carnival shortly while I clean my rubber mask collection. I just got off work. Oy!
Go on…
My avatar is a Don Post mask from 1991. I have no idea how it survived with me since 1991, but it did. There are others needing maintenance as well.
Have you heard Dana Gould’s story about his Planet Of The Apes mask?
I was very pleased to see that both Devil’s Carnival movies were available on Tubi as well.
Devil’s Carnival looks beautiful.
I’ve been wanting to try this. Thanks Nephilium.
May it live up to your expectations.
Not sure about the opera aspect, but maybe i’ll have a go.
Is that Joan Jett?
Yes. Yes it is.
I’ve met her, but we were both much younger then….
That Paris Hilton link is the best of all Paris Hilton links. Go Mr. Slave!
I was waiting for someone to notice the difference between the links.
I finally watched her porno tape the other day. I thought that she acquitted herself quite well. Lady knows how to suck a dong.
tits!
I was at the Manchester Taco Tour. It was insanely crowded. I got back not too long ago.
I’ve seen this movie before. I didn’t like it that much. Sorry. This one I’ll skip.
In that case, I feel free to go off topic with you.
In SPAM/SCAM/PHISHING news, I’ve seen a huge uptick in the last few weeks in emails that include as subject lines “Order confirmation” or “Welcome to your new ____ account” etc.
They purport to be from legit companies, and my guess is that they are trying to get people to click the embedded links to confirm what’s going on or whatever.
Unfortunately the grammar and formatting generally looks pretty good, so I’m afraid they are fooling a lot of people.
I don’t know if scammers recently figured out a new way to slip past filters or if Google (gmail) changed it’s something filtering algorithm.
Any insight from our talented IT and cybersecurity crowd?
At least my Linux computer is no longer telling Microsoft Support that it has a problem.
I get very little spam and the last year or two it’s all been “class-action settlements” and for all I know it’s real but it looks like spam to me.
But I don’t use gmail.
Join our class action lawsuit. As part of the $250M settlement, you will receive a coupon for $0.50 off your next purchase.
Yeah, no.
The fake spam that work tries to entrap us with is so laughably transparent.
A couple weeks ago it was one based on some news story that the IT security folks clearly read the day before and thought they were being clever.
I will get those from time to time, but the actual email address is so not corporate that I just delete them immediately.
I also get notices about class action lawsuits, but those will come with an actual letter in the snail mail to match it, as that is what is actually required by law, otherwise another delete. But as far as class actions, I have been part of a couple of them and the money wasn’t bad, usually around 1K. And it is usually payrole issues from places I have worked at.
I noticed several months ago that I was suddenly signed up for various mailing lists. I think it’s a combination of legit and phony, trying to mask it in volume.
Yes. They are all very apparently fake though.
I’m pretty sure I watched this already, but I was hammered and don’t remember a lot about it.
Nope, I’m thinking of Repo Men with Jude Law.
Repo Man?
That movie is great!
“ It happens sometimes. People just explode. Natural causes.”
Truth
Nope

Appears to have the same basic plot
Thanks Nephilium & RJ!
I’m not into musicals, and I didn’t think the music or singing were good. How hard is it to find a decent drummer?
Alexa Vega as a goth chick was cute.
Anyway, so not my bag, but still much appreciated. It’s still good too see things I wouldn’t have watched otherwise.
Hi
Kamusta?
Definitely different so far
F**king team players: “let’s politicize everything. I know, I can make a political statement from my recent viewing of The Blues Brothers.” Shit, just enjoy the damn movie.

We can leave your friends behind
‘Cause your friends don’t First
And if they don’t First
Well they’re no friends of mine
Say, we can First if we want to
If we don’t, nobody will
And you can First real rude and totally removed
And I can First like an imbecile
Firsting is a high IQ activity. It takes tremendous brain power. You cannot First like am imbecile. You are fake news.
Hey, it’s your song.
?
We can Dance! We can Dance! Everybody shit in their pants! AAAWOOO!
De gustibus and all that. I tried, but a hard “nope” from me.
Imma gonna watch some Father Brown.
It’s weird how the Brits (maybe even more specifically, the English) have transformed such a horrific thing as murder into a good intellectual puzzle over tea.
But I dig it!!
Yeah, the SU and I quite like that show, though it’s no Poirot or Sherlock Holmes.
Dude, Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes is the best thing evah. As a wee lass, I got into reading Holmes after trying out “The Speckled Band” from the school library. Then I found “The Annotated Sherlock Holmes” by William S. Baring-Gould at the town library and threw myself into it. I was maybe 11-12. Made a huge impact on my life, my vocabulary, my cynicism and optimism about life.
I negotiated with the small town bookshop and bought my own lovely boxed set for $44, the largest purchase I’d ever made.
I’m sure that makes me a huge nerd, but that’s a true story of one of my major life influences. I don’t know that the character of Holmes made me a blunt “just the facts” person, or simply told me it was ok to be that way, but to this day, I find myself quoting “Holmes” now and then.
Also, David Suchet as Poirot is the bomb.
After they wrapped up the series, he came back years later for a special “Murder on the Orient Express” in which he was older, more jaded, but just as sharp. I loved it.
I also have Suchet reading the entire Bible on my Audiobook collection. He became a Christian somewhere along the 1980s and wanted to read the Bible aloud.
Whether you are a believer or not, Suchet’s explanation of why he wanted to record the Bible aloud is intriguing. Less than 3 minutes. https://youtu.be/fIRaC7jlvE0
Also has a great documentary “In the Footsteps of St Paul.”
I haven’t watched the latest season. The COVID year off was annoying. My wife and I are making our way through Midsomer Murders. Both series are set in small towns that have a lot of murders. I would move.
The protagonist from “Murder, She Wrote” killed all of those geezers.
Ugh. I was up at 3am…its midnight and will be back up at 5am. Sleep…where are you?!
Good morning!
11am comes scratching at the door.

Morning Glibs.
How have I lost motivation from the time I got out of bed? Normally I improve as I move along the morning routine.
You need moar caffeine.
Mornin.
*sigh*
Time to get ready for work.
Not enough sleep. I felt like that yesterday. Fuck it, they can’t all be gems!
I haven’t watched the movie but I have seen a trailer or two. It’s more likely that I would order a Ball-Do from Amazon Prime and have it on my credit record. Great cheezey fun! Well-played, Neph! It even has Giles!
This is what happens when you let the Theatre kids run wild. We see it with AOC and that loon from DHS.

Posted the same on FB, No one has commented. Either i’m shadow banned or i have burned all my friends on FB.
In other news, my garden is weedy, the sheep in the library aka bookworm is bigger than my dogs now. Rest of the flock escape with some regularity. Two close calls from supercells/tornadoes this week.
Sams club dog food went from 40lb sacks to 30lb sacks. Diet Dr. Pepper went from $12.82 flat to #13.82.
Saw that on Tucker during my break. Intel are bragging about killing Russians. Where do we go from here?
They would rather burn the whole thing down if it means that they retain power. This is insane.
Seems like if i were Putin, i’d give the taliban a plane, a bomb, a video camera bragging how they got a nuke from us stores in Turkey, and fly them to DC.
Fair is fair right?
I remember a quaint time when intel didn’t brag about what they knew. Something about protecting sources, methods and capabilities.
Thread Killer once again. Is there anybody out there?
I am just a figment of your imagination.
Well, that sucked.

… How is this day going so poorly already? I mess up simple things in my morning routine. I discovered that the stuff I’d bought for my lunch today I’d left in my car in weather that made the car a solar oven, so instead of a more leasurely morning, I had to rush to get a replacement together. I made it to work to find they’d expanded the region of sidewalk torn up and blocked off part of the parking lot. Now I’ve gotten to my cube and the stupid pull tab meant to make it easier to get the caffiene bottles out of the plastic rings tears off instead of pulling the perforations open.
I know these are all little, petty, and pointless setbacks, but it’s set a tone where nothing’s gone right so far.
Hopefully the day goes better from here.
Thanks.
How’s everything in your neck of the woods?
As always rather busy. pretending to be a farmer, (and i wont insult people who do farm by what i do) is much harder than i ever thought it would be.
Its expensive.
But it prevents me from watching the stupid news networks, and i do get a sense of satisfaction trying to make this plot of dirt better than when i started with.
Wish i had more land, less house.
Work…..is work. 15 months from minimum retirement age, so that’s a happy milestone.
I am content.
How are the sheepies doing?
They are hungry beast that try to escape the fencing i built.
They keep looking for more grass.
The bottle fed one in my office thinks i’m her mom.
I suppose the incessant grass munching is fairly normal.
I wonder if the imprinted lamb will have any trouble from that.
Content is good. Happy for you! I wish that I had a choice. Everything is drawing away from me. I just hope that I keep my shit together and don’t start lashing out.
I think its the loss of control that hurts the most.
Don’t give up Fest. I think we have more power than we think we do.
That in spades.
Rage! Rage against the dying of the light!
Good morning, U, Tulip, RoaT, Fes, ‘bodru, rhy, Sean, & Stinky.
My day has started off rather like that. I overslept almost half an hour (thank goodness I set the alarm so much earlier than absolutely necessary,) poured my coffee into my travel mug, then as I was going after the sweetener, I spilled almost all the coffee all over the counter (and floor.)
It has to get better from here on out, right? (At least it’s Friday.)
It’s Friday, which means I need to get firewall requests in and I have three interviews to conduct, neither of which I’m looking forward to.
I dug your story, UCS.
Thanks.
I assume you mean the jousting one and not my griping over minor inconveniences.
Both.
My sympathies re: the three interviews. ? At least for these, you’re on the right side of the questions. (I’d say the right side of the desk, but I don’t know how your workspace is laid out. Can you keep your desk between you and the
victimsinterviewees?)Thankfully, these are webex interviews. (we do require that the candidate have video so we can verify that the person who shows up to work is the one we interviewed and that they’re not doing shady stuff like getting fed the answers/looking them up.)
I’m still amused by that one interview where the candidate was very clearly just googling every technology mentioned and reading from the first result rather than answering the question, which was along the lines of “Please describe some of the work you’ve done with X”
“If you can find yourself a village without an idiot, you’ve got yourself a job!”
On the plus side, they use Google to research answers. Could do worse as a hire…
He got the wrong answers, so I doubt that he’d do better if tasked with finding a technical solution.
interview + webex = two sucks in one
I disagree.
I don’t need to get them in or out of the building.
I don’t need to worry about getting everyone from my division on-site.
I don’t need to fret that they might lose it.
I don’t need to talk them into leaving if I decide it’s not working out.
I just need to hit ‘end meeting for all’ and it’s over.
I’ll send good vibes your way, Red!
Thank you, Fes! Guess I’d better check the traffic report – and later make sure I don’t end up part of it.
Mornin’
At the doctor’s office, they’ve still got a mask requirement.
I think putting it on jacked my blood pressure by about 10 points. I’m obvious over it.
obviously
And I need coffee
Same thing happens to me. I’m taking a daily blood thinner whether I need it or not. I trust a smelly plumber more then the Medical Industry.
Oh yeah, those vitamin supplements that make you pee yellow.
My dentist requires you wear one in, then remove it obviously for cleaning.
Make it make sense.

So far this season, we’ve seen one of the three games for which we had tickets. At least the team is doing great – 18-5! (.783!) And, of course, leading the Midwest League!
