Mothers Day Morning Links

I hope everyone who has a relationship with their mother does the needful and spends some physical or virtual time with xer. I hear the horse race was good for the punters who like to take flyers. I’ll have my wife, mother, and mother-in-law over today. That’s a lot of mothers in one house.

Sleep deprivation makes you less attentive. I prefer “less likely to give a fuck”, but they are propeller heads.

I already have to have my phone AND a password. How is just my phone more secure?

I blame humans.

Brett L

Brett L

Brett set out to find America, the real America, the America of strip malls and serial killers, of butthole waxing and kelp smoothies, of cocaine and maggots. He sought it in the most American part of America—Florida: swamp gas and fever dreams, where love arrives on a rickety boat and leaves when it doesn't have the money for its fourth abortion. Oh, where has Brett gone? He’s drinking at the neck of America’s wang, chewing its foreskin and working its shaft. Brett is becoming legend. Brett can never die. Brett can never die. Brett is America, facedown in his own patriotic puke: the red his blood, the white his stomach lining, and the cold, cold blue his gas station slushie, spiked with coconut rum and tetracycline.

Having my passwords stored in the computer makes me nervous enough.

I don’t use my phone for much of anything but a phone and a camera.

    • Fourscore

White supremacist plays a tune on his dog whistle

While speaking to judges and lawyers at the 11th Circuit Judicial Conference in Atlanta on Friday, Thomas said he was growing concerned about declining respect for governmental institutions and the rule of law.

While he did not directly refer to the leak of the draft opinion striking down Roe v. Wade, first published by Politico, he referred to the “unfortunate events” of this week.

“It bodes ill for a free society,” he said, adding that the court “can’t be an institution that can be bullied into giving you just the outcomes you want.”

Thomas noted that as a society, “we are becoming addicted to wanting particular outcomes, not living with the outcomes we don’t like,” Reuters reported.

He said he was particularly worried about the “different attitude of the young,” who may not show governmental institutions the same respect as older generations.

Thomas, the Supreme Court’s longest-serving justice and one of the more conservative members, has previously called for Roe v. Wade to be overturned. He said Friday that his views were not linked to the recent controversy, however, he emphasized that important decisions he believes were wrongly decided should be corrected.

“We use stare decisis as a mantra when we don’t want to think,” he said, referring to the concept of precedent, according to The Washington Post.

His statements come after it was revealed in March that his wife, Ginni, sent several text messages former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows urging him to find a way to keep former President Trump in office leading up to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

He hates DEMOCRACY! (and so does his wife).

Throughout practice and qualifying drivers found that there is no grip if they stray off the rubbered-in racing line.

The consensus is that the prospect of an entertaining race will be compromised because drivers cannot move off line to attempt a pass.

“I think most importantly the surface is a joke,” said Perez when asked by Autosport if there will be any passing in the race.

“Tomorrow the racing is going be difficult. And you’re going to have the drivers making mistakes because we’ve been put into this situation.”

In addition to Perez’s comments, Fernando Alonso said that the track surface was “not F1 standards”, while Lando Norris suggested that it was “not good enough.”

Alonso revealed that the subject had been discussed in Friday night’s drivers’ briefing, and that the lack of grip had not improved on Saturday.

“It’s still very difficult to go offline,” he said. “There’s like rubble out of line, so it’s going to be difficult. We said yesterday that the track, the tarmac, is not F1 standards.

“Nothing we can do. I think this weekend we need to put the show, but this has to change for next year. It’s very difficult to race like this.”

Those cars have too much grip, not too little.

Go watch the films of Fangio and Clark at the Nurburgring.

    • slumbrew

I don’t think they’re whining when they point out the track doesn’t meet current standards.

“As calls come to remove Ed Koch’s name from New York’s Queensboro Bridge over his abysmal handling of the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, it’s been revealed that the colorful city mayor was secretly gay and terrified of being outed.

Koch, who never came out during his lifetime, was a popular NYC mayor during his three terms in office from 1978 to 1989.

But the New York Times reveals that Koch, who later became a TV personality and political commentator, was lonely in his later years after pushing away his Harvard-educated health consultant boyfriend of many years in case it affected his political career.

He even tried to cover his sexuality and tackle the gay rumors which had begin to swirl around him by dating the first Jewish Miss America Bess Myerson while running for office.”

“Racial and ethnic disparities in maternal mortality — deaths related to pregnancy or childbirth — in the United States may be larger than previously reported, suggests a study funded by the National Institutes of Health. By re-examining information on death certificates from 2016 and 2017, researchers found that the maternal mortality rate among non-Hispanic Black women was 3.5 times higher than among non-Hispanic white women. Previously, standard analyses had indicated a 2.5-times-higher death rate for Black women.

The new analysis also revealed that these disparities were concentrated among a few causes of death. Postpartum cardiomyopathy (disease of the heart muscle) and the blood pressure disorders preeclampsia and eclampsia were leading causes of maternal death for Black women, with mortality rates five times higher than those for white women. Pregnant and postpartum Black women were two to three times more likely than white women to die of hemorrhage (severe bleeding) or embolisms (blood vessel blockages).”

    https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/nih-funded-study-highlights-stark-racial-disparities-maternal-deaths

Democrats are bringing this up as an argument how an abortion ban is racist, but these are women who want to have the baby.

Are they comparing incidence versus outcomes or just reporting outcomes?

Never mind, I already know the answer.

In other news, more blacks die from sickle cell anemia than whites on average and it reflects the inherent racism of the system.

With the onset of the ABORTIONABORTIONABORTION news cycle, I can’t help wondering what it is they’re working on that they don’t want the audience to be paying attention to.

    • Count Potato

      Crime? Inflation? World War III?

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

        Everything else

      • rhywun

        Yes.

    • Zwak,The Baddest Johnny on the Apple Cart

No, it’s abortion. They think this is the worst thing ever to happen in the history of people, and is the reason they have been fighting all the Republicans.

What is freaking them out is how little traction this is getting.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

The implosion of Western Civilization continues.

In other news, I read that it’s been revealed that Foucault liked to travel to Egypt and pay little kids to rape them in a graveyard.

I’m going to have to find out where that POS is buried so I can go piss on him.

      • Count Potato

        Really?

      • Gustave Lytton

If only it would kill his intellectual legacy at the same time, rather that merely unpersoning him.

      • Count Potato

“accused of being a paedophile rapist who had sex with children while living in Tunisia in the late 1960s by the French-American academic Guy Sorman”

So no idea if it’s true.

      • MikeS

Plausible. From the shamefully short paragraph on his views of pedophilia in his very lengthy Wikipedia entry:

Foucault was a proponent of adult-child underage sex and of pedophilia, considering them a form of liberation for both actors;[185][186][187] he argued young children could give sexual consent.[188] In 1977, along with Jean-Paul Sartre, Jacques Derrida, and other intellectuals, Foucault signed a petition to the French parliament calling for the decriminalization of all “consensual” sexual relations between adults and minors below the age of fifteen, the age of consent in France.[189][190]

      • Gustave Lytton

along with Jean-Paul Sartre, Jacques Derrida, and other intellectuals

        Where’s my shocked face at?

      • MikeS

Correction; that’s not from the paragraph, that’s the entire paragraph. In an article containing 237 citations, only 6 have to do with his view that children can consent to sexual relationships with adults.

      • slumbrew

The bot writing those articles does not understand sarcasm.

His fans were really upset and sad after hearing the news about his whims; as some denied these allegations, claiming they can’t be true if you have read his books.

This is the f̶i̶r̶s̶t̶ last thing you’d expect if you were familiar with his work https://t.co/18hm5dkUBX

More proof of how much Republicans believe in limited government.

They’re just trying to focus on the important stuff.

    • juris imprudent

It would be perfect if the Republicans contrived to push through a ban only for the SCotUS originalists to argue that it had no more Constitutional basis than Roe did.

Human pride is a fucking odd road.
Its glows and then casts a gold
burst like a lovely cast in the swath
of its cities. A city is like the lathe
on the walls on the inhabitant so
fucking proud for no fucking highbrow
littany since all its downcast bros
fall under the spell of a city sentence
like a boy thrown into a state of governmental penance.

Slip her some of your artistry jizz spilled on a scrap of paper and ask her to lick it. She will fall to the call of Quincy. The rays of the future fall into the prescribed narrows of a gliding tower resonating with the shriek of our digital survival, Quincy. Our atoms will crave the network canyons and living like a homeless duo amoung the silicone and future nanocords will enable us to pull the metal woman into a feverish forelong.

I’d imagine a lot of you live in states where redistricting is going on, and is controversial. TV news this morning had some minority “spokeswoman” decrying the fact that PA’s map served to water down the minority’s voice in a certain Philly district. Wah, Wah, Wah. Water down? Hell, if you are a Republican in Philly you have no voice at all once the votes are counted. Anyone not in a competitive district is going to have their “voice watered down.”
