Remember about a year and half ago I did a partial review of the Crossrope system? Well, I forgot too. I was doing some spring cleaning and came across the article. It’s time to finish what I started.
Just a reminder, Crossrope is a well-designed, well-built jump rope system. The ropes are steel cables in varying weights coated in plastic. The handles have some sort of rubberized finished to aid your grip. The ball bearings are smooth as silk. The connection between rope and handle is secure and easy to use. The set I bought comes with a ¼ pound, ½ pound, 1 pound, and 2 pound rope.
The heavier weight does make for a more demanding workout. Even the ¼ pound rope is more demanding than a jump rope from your local sporting goods store. I don’t know if the increase in effort is arithmetic or geometric (pi x r2 and all that) but it is noticeable. The two smaller weights are good for speed work. The two heavier weights really are a beast. It’s most noticeable in the shoulders and chest. More than that, there is a need for grip strength and the angular momentum is a bit jarring at first. It takes some concentration, at first, to stay in the same spot.
I hardily approve of this product and recommend it to anyone who wants to jump rope as part of their fitness routine. It should not surprise me in the age of YouTube there would be channels dedicated to jumping rope. I like these guys. Sure, they have something to sell but so does every other fitness channel. I think these guys are on the up and up and there is plenty of useful information.
Coincidentally, the Bioneer covered skipping rope this week. He makes the point that beyond burning calories, jumping rope can also improve your sense of rhythm and timing, and increase bone density.

When I wrote the first part of this review the pandemic panic was a full strength. I was grateful to Alex Berenson for doing actual reporting on what was going on. In my opinion, Berenson reaches some unwarranted conclusions and occasionally makes a logical jump that appears unsupported. Having said that, he had the stones to tell the emperor he had no clothes and cite basis for his claims. The large majority of the time, he was right.
He just posted this. Do read his article. A la zero hedge, don’t read the comments.
I’ll close this article the way I did the first one (albeit with a different musical link). This is how most of us are feeling.
Not doing much glibfitting this weekend. I finally got the Rona.
Called the secret telemed to get horse and malaria pills starting Friday. More than 50% better already.
It was my vaccinated brother who got me sick last weekend.
So, your bro’s got the VAIDS, does he?
Sounds sicker than me – despite being 14 years younger.
Pathogenic priming’s a bitch.
Obligatory
Isn’t it ironic?
It’s like spreading the Vid

At this point, that’s nearly everyone who gets it.
They are the evolutionary pressure.
Sorry. Good to hear the drugs are helping.
Out the door soon to race. Winds are fair so it should be fun and not a desperate survival event with equipment failures and people going into the drink.

equipment failures and people going into the drink.
Been there.
Porpoising a Catamaran, good times
Don’t forget the teabagging.
Turtled a Prindle 18. Mast stuck in the mud. It took 5 other boats to help un-stick it. The wind was nukin’ though!

Wife is watching the Theranos/Holmes series on Hulu. So far it’s all her fault. I’m off to work in the yard.
Smart choice.
Speaking of vaccine misinformation…
I can’t read that even in porn mode. Where was this guy a year and a half ago?
Probably being muffled like the other 17K doctors in the Great Barrington Declaration – or like many frontline docs who treated folks during the worst of it and knew it was treatable with Vitamin D.

Stable weight @ 170. Trying to stretch/abs/pushups every morning but fail at least 3 days a week. 3 sets of 25 on the pushups is where I am at when I don’t flake. Trying to ride the bike but having shifting issues which forces me to stop because it is just infuriating. Empty a hand gun into the bike kind of infuriating but I hopefully fixed that today. It is shifting smoothly on the make shift stand.
I forgot about your jump rope series as well. I need to get one. Love the Jump Rope Dudes message. “Get lean, Live More”. You can do it any number of ways.
It was obvious from the jump that fitness was the best defense against the disease – which is why shitting down gyms was absolutely criminal.
Fuck these people. If the whirlwind comes, it will be hard for me to feel an iota of sympathy or mercy for the lock-downers and other assholes who deemed gyms “non-essential.”
“Essential” or “non-essential” to what end? Not a single governor ever mentioned what was the “essential” thing that determined whether a business fell into the category or not.
The gym closures made no sense after about 3 months of data were in. I agree with you. The closures were completely arbitrary.
That was the reason the missus and I didn’t get involved with the nonsense. We are relatively healthy and understood that the vaccines were not going to work, no testing, etc. I said 3 years ago it was a political stunt.
So many of my age group fell into the trap ’cause a real (cough-cough) Dr said so. The family doc said “I’m not going to tell you that you should get the vaccine, you make your own decisions”. My interpretation was he wasn’t recommending it for a reason.
I bought some nice mats for my home gym from a guy up in Boulder who had closed his gym. He was seething about the governor shutting him down but leaving the dispensary across the street open.
They should all be put on trial (but they won’t).

Hello!
I remember the Crossrope reviews. I might look into them to change what I do for conditioning. I like the AirDyne bike, but I’ve been relying a bit too heavily on it.
Weight dropped a bit. We’ll see if I can keep this up.
“Won’t Get Fooled Again” is a good song.
?
I’ve finally, after *ahem* years, got my ass back into the weight room this past week. Found a good gym, too. Barbells, weights, rowers, TRX, 24-hour access, and right on my usual route to/from work.
This past week was just me figuring out my 1RM on the major lifts again. No real surprise; I’m putting up about as much weight as a reasonably athletic high-school girl who plays varsity sports. Ah well, nowhere to go but up…
…I’m putting up about as much weight as a reasonably athletic high-school girl who plays varsity sports…
I’m gonna be 64 in less than a month, and that sounds like the workouts I’ve been doing since before the ‘Vid. ?
I won’t challenge you to a push up contest, ES. 2 miles on the treadmill this morning, tomorrow I push and pull some weights but I ain’t lifting anything heavier than a honey super.
Good job! Are you doing your own programming or following a program?
I’m doing 5/3/1 with the bodyweight assistance program.
Nice. I did 5/3/1 for a long time and really enjoyed it. I switched because I need to squat more frequently (I’m old).
There is a decent app available if you don’t want to do the math.
Good luck!
I just did my weekly 1.5 hours of lawn sled workout. Time propelled mower at a brisk pace gets my heart around aerobic rate of 120-130 bpm.
I also just changed the oil and rotated my tires just before. Productivity achieved.
Time propelled? Dr. Who made your mower?
Yea, it’s also bigger on the inside.
“it’s also bigger on the inside”
That’s what she said.
As nice as Michigan is this time of year, I still feel like a lizard in a terrarium, if I leave the house I’m cold and I’m sick of it.
I start yet another job tomorrow and putting my van in the shop for repair, after that, it’s planning and saving, I’m outta here.
And just because, I applied for the Antarctic gig again, if the covid idiocy is gone I have a good shot.
HVAC/R in Antarctica, go figure
And you think you’re cold in Michigan?
6500$ a month? I can deal with it
My grandfather was in the 152nd Troop Carrier Squadron USAF. They were the unit that brought over the SeaBees and all their gear to build McMurdo. He said they had to wait until it warmed up to -50F before they could safely work outside. On the plus side, they left all their tools and equipment just laying around where they were working as nothing ever rusts and there is nobody to steal it.
Hell yea. Buy a new Kia.

Blood clot, eh?
It’s pretty sad that he is one of the few candidates that I would consider a person that wants to help people.
I disagree with most of what he wants to do, but I can respect that he really seems to care about his state.
I don’t think the remaining candidates were even living in the state for more than a year. They are all opportunists.
Fetterman vs. Gillespie.
That may have been true when he hit the scene. All these years in, I don’t trust him a single bit.
Didn’t he have a Hammer and Sickle on his Derpbook page for a while?
Wouldn’t surprise me.
Again I don’t like his political positions or his party, but he does represent a lot of people in this state. He is an old union strong Dem.
“a person that wants to help people. he really seems to care about his state”
What’s that old saying about those with good intentions who want to force you to do their will are worse than those simply in it for power and loot?
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.“

OT: A series of derp from NH. State Sen. Lou D’Alessandro on Joe Biden
The Biden administration if off to a good start. Now is not the time to lose focus. House Democrats are right that executive actions are the best way forward, but with just three years until the next presidential election, it is important to be thoughtful about what actions are taken.
Typo in the original.
What part of Biden’s start does he think is good?
Second paragraph:
In a year-and-a-half, President Biden has delivered for the American people. His American Rescue plan has helped communities fight the pandemic. His infrastructure bill has provided billions to rebuild roads and bridges. His steady hand on foreign policy has helped rebuild alliances and restore the world’s faith in the United States.
What color is the sky in his world?
“ His steady hand on foreign policy has helped rebuild alliances and restore the world’s faith in the United States.”
Surely that was meant as sarcasm.
60 billion to the Ukraine or whatever it is will buy a lot of “faith” in the US. Since I don’t for one second believe that money will stay in Ukraine (not counting the part going to the military/contractors/etc.)
From D’Alessandro, I doubt it is sarcasm.
I have relatives in PA that think Biden is deescalating the situation in Ukraine/Russia.
Derp from NH part two: Using and abusing the tools of Democracy
One of the saddest developments in recent times is the expert use of the tools of democracy by those seeking to destroy the institutions democracy makes possible.
A recent example occured in March in the tiny town of Croydon, New Hampshire. A combination of bad weather, indifference, and busy lives kept the vast majority of the town’s 801 residents from attending the annual school district meeting. The key item? A vote on the local school budget.
Derp from NH part three: Clergy lead protest against Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut’s policies
When Frank Edelblut, New Hampshire’s Commissioner of Education, published an opinion column on “Education’s Sacred Trust” last month, his words captured the attention of clergy and religious groups whose ideas on what is sacred appear to differ from those of the commissioner.
That’s one reason why dozens of sign-carrying citizens walked from a Durham church to a “visibility action” outside the middle school where Commissioner Edelblut and the State Board of Education met on Thursday, May 12.
“Recent revelations from educators around the country, mostly on social media platforms like TikTok, reveal a number of educators who believe that it is their responsibility to weigh in on and influence the value systems of the children toward a particular goal,” Commissioner Edelblut said in his op-ed. While most teachers avoid imposing their own suspect values on children, Edelblut went on, flawed practices “are beginning to seep into our own institutions.”
Based on a 68-page packet he posted online, most of the instructional materials he finds problematic deal with race and gender.
For the Rev. Heidi Heath, who heads the NH Council of Churches and led the protest, it’s Edelblut’s social conservative views that are problematic. “Commissioner Edelblut has really taken a hard hit at our public education system and has made really clear that he does not stand in support — despite his role here in the state — of our teachers and our students and our staff.”
Just hopping for a good word on my proposed surgery from the insurance company. But at this point, there are three doctors supporting it, so I am feeling good about it.
And the final part is the derpiest of the set. Social Contract frays under the weight of individual rights
The social contract has enhanced the greater good resulting in advances in medicine that ended centuries of deadly diseases, sent men and women into space and introduced the world to technology we only dreamed about a century ago: self-driving cars and instantaneous communication around the world.
Those innovations would not be possible unless people were willing to give some of our earnings to the government to fund the research and development that is too risky or not profitable for private industry.
What has been developed with government backing has benefited everyone and been a good investment.
However, the model social contract that allowed the world to progress exponentially over the last century, is beginning to fray.
Over the last few decades, the rise of individual rights over the greater good has begun unravelling the interconnectedness of the social contract.
Hi, I am a leftie. Everyone who disagrees with me is wrong and responsible for bad things.

posted in the Lily thread too late – I just heard through the grapevine that LA DA Gascon has sent a letter to staff taking back
“no bail for all non-violent offenders” . Somebody was told some polling! haha suck it Gascon.
Speaking of fitness, I just sent the son off on a three week backpacking trip in Sequoia. It should be amazing for the kids, just to detach from social media that long should help show them it’s not necessary to ‘keep up’ .
Smart lady, your kids will learn how to resourceful and independent. He will come back with a lot of adventurous stories and you’ll get to live his experience several times before he is finished.
Three weeks? Nice!
Gascon is a nightmare. He can’t be voted out soon enough.
Someone tell our DA that releasing violent offenders to commit more crimes isn’t exactly working.
It will work if you just do more of it. Real bail reform has never been tried. ?
I did a lot of backpacking up there when I was a kid. Up to Big Bird lake, Devils Punchbowl, and so on. A series of 50 milers over the years. Beautiful area, fond memories.
Liberty Doll has an update on the NRA mess.
And speaking of education and misinformation…
(apologies if this is a repeat)
There’s no such thing as a slippery slope.
…And they came for the middle school students, but I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a middle school student…
Now her son and two other boys are being charged by school officials with Title IV violations
They single-handedly re-segregated their schools?
Im going to bed. Some of us work tonight.

Regarding the NY shooter, just saw this WSJ article:
My first thought while reading is that the police statement was written by Mel Brooks… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_JOGmXpe5I&ab_channel=LearningBase33
Too soon to say Covid-related deaths?
Not to be glib about this horrible tragedy. It struck home for my wife who has gotten inexcusably forgetful about concealed carrying lately. She mentioned that she never thought she’d need to carry at the grocery store but will never forget again. I replied (not original) that we conceal carry handguns precisely because we don’t think we need them. If we actually thought we would need to use them, we’d be grabbing long guns and armor instead. That resonated quite a bit with her.
From what I’ve seen so far, half the “manifesto” is lifted from the Christchurch shooter’s and the other half is lifted straight from ADL and DHS briefing slides.
The likelihood that 4chan radicalized this kid is slightly less than the likelihood that extraterrestrials assassinated JFK.
^^
It sounds like utter horsehsit.
^^^Gettaloadda this Nazi
Clearly, he was a Boy Scout before 4chan mind control took hold. From there it was the even more radical rabbit hole of camping and hunting. The obvious next step is Naziism and mass murder. Irrefutable FACTS and LOGIC. WaPo told me.
Why is it that all of these people who allegedly want to overthrow the system, and this includes leftist attacks as well, never target any of the sources of power?
Shooting up theaters, churches, synagogues, and grocery stores; bombing Nashville; looting and burning down pharmacies and boutique stores; smash-and-grab at Target; machine gunning a Vegas concert. None of these places have any power.
The only person who seems to have been remotely sincere about his actions was Timothy McVeigh, and even then he just attacked some backwater fedgov office full of powerless drones and their children.
Congrats on being added to another list! ?
Yeah, I’ve probably got a bingo at this point.
Ik guess I’m on the list to,
Cause they’re all full of shit about their “reason”. They’re no different from the Columbine killers, IMO – it’s notoriety they’re after, and the rest is just justifications after the fact. it’s just by making it racial they get on the news now, after news started to get wise to not splashing spree killers all over the tv.
“after the fact” – meaning after the decision to do it, not after the attack. I think that’s why these ‘manifestos’ are so incoherent and then they attack ordinary people, because it’s just a laundry list of no particular meaning. The NZ dude said as much in his – all but admitted it was all b.s., and he was just toying with the media to watch everyone rip themselves up.
Yes, I think this is spot-on.
I have always wondered about that myself.
Lockdown-related deaths.
This fucker sounds like the caricature that’s been living in the heads of every leftist for the last few years come to life.
It’s almost too spot-on to be believable.
We’ll know if it was a setup if he doesn’t make it to trial.
He also was investigated because he made threats to his school. He still got a gun.
Much vit D was absorbed this weekend. The weeks meats shall be the usual pork tenderloin for the nightly bone broth and egg soup, short ribs and chicken thigh crossover birria sort of thing. (I am actually going to make tacos tonight.) Also a few meals of smoked prime rib because why not. I had the prime rib last night and sweet baby jesus………….
From a quote in the Berenson thing:
lolno
Exactly.
GlibFit: Got several laps in the pool this afternoon. Swimming is very friendly for psoriatic arthritis. I’m going to need to find an effective sunblock soon; my pigment is inadequate for this sun! So far I’m just freckled, but I definitely need to watch it. There is an alarming number of dermatology and skin cancer clinics in Pahrump.
Politics: Primary election (June 14) sample ballots arrived in the mail. Very crowded fields for US Senate and Governor. Interestingly, the GOP state convention delegates did NOT endorse the “front runner” for either race! Apparently there’s a pretty big and long-lasting rift between the GOP establishment star chamber and the rank-and-file delegates.
The rift dates back to 2008 when the rank-and-file wanted to endorse Ron Paul for prez, so the GOP chair abruptly SHUT DOWN THE CONVENTION. I can see that would cause some distrust. The Senate candidate Laxalt was endorsed by Trump, DeSantis, and Ted Cruz but was rejected by the delegates.
I’ve looked at many candidate websites and read several “neutral” articles. Pattern seems to be candidates are ex-military, ex law enforcement (or both), or businessmen. Few lawyers and career politicians. All claiming to be for election integrity, anti-lockdown, pro-business (whatever that means).
Las Vegas and Reno will pretty much guarantee that the Dems will win US Senate and Governor. But the regional and local races make a big difference too, especially since my town is unincorporated so Nye county is the real power.
It appears that the best way to keep Pahrump libertarian is to vote GOP, so I registered republican to vote in their primary.
Ugh. Just found out the “front runner” for the GOP gubernatorial race is the Clark County (Las Vegas) sheriff.
His claim to fame? His office “led” the investigation into the mass shooting in Vegas a few years ago. He actually has that on his website. Oh, also supports ban on high capacity magazines. Color me unimpressed.
What mass shooting in Vegas?
/average voter
“So far I’m just freckled, but I definitely need to watch it. ”
You were warned
Sigh. Yeah, I know.
I’ll compensate for it when I’m working down in the mines like a morlock.
heh, sad but you chose the job, deal with it, as you said to me once.
I’m very much looking forward to working down in the mines!! The hardware will start showing up this fall.
In the meantime, we are converting an empty building in Las Vegas into a pulsed power lab. Not much of a budget, but we’re making it work.
Chafed!
Those look really coo, but I think my days of jumping are behind me. Too much damage over the years to my feet makes it really painful. Too bad, though, because it’s a great way to do HIIT.
Good GlibFit week. Week three into eating more appears to be paying off. Lifts are all going up and I’m feeling really good. Just got back from a 5 mile walk in the beautiful sunshine. Now if I can just get my sleep dialed in, all will be right in the world.
One other thing I’ve done is to switch to music while I’m lifting. I had been listening to podcasts, but found them to be distracting/rage inducing. Music is muy bueno.
By the way, any of you dudes interested in TRT, Rip’s podcast this week is excellent. I will be exploring this myself, so I’m interested in any experiences y’all might have had.
Have a great week, GlibFitters!
Ya, I am not sure of my opinion on TRT. I have thought about it, but never looked into it and then the last year happened. Eating more meat and exercise has influenced whether I wood or wood not do TRT.
You may not need it, but there is ample evidence that our hormones take a beating after we turn 40. It’s worth a listen – the doc is really knowledgable and does a nice job of laying out the real story of hormone optimization (test, thyroid, D, etc.).
What s better than the C Thomas Howell War of the Worlds?
The C Thomas Howell War of the Worlds 2 movie, of course. ?
I love the Comet channel.
Regular Cars reviews a Trabant.
Saw parking lots of those in East Berlin when out there to see the Grateful Dead in late 1990. A film of soot was everywhere. OTOH, the people were amazingly upbeat. Good times.
There is one of those in the neighborhood my rental property is. Of course, that is a college town, so it probably isn’t ironic.
Then again, I love stupid cars.

Earlier, you mentioned the Incorporation Act (or whatever it was) that took all the little towns and forced them to be part of NYC. Man, The Rockaways got royally screwed by that. The NYC Parks & Rec. Dept. controls this peninsula with a iron fist. Home rule would be so nice.
To be fair, the towns/cities* voted for it. Or at least their representatives did (I don’t know the gory details). In fact, Nassau County was supposed to join, too – but they voted against it.

I know, why don’t you draw another penalty, Rangers? JFC.
The good news is you are just 4 months away from being disappointed by The Jets.
Oh, that is low.
Have some mercy.
Meh.
I’ve managed to convince the girlfriend to let me buy tickets to two Browns games already.
That’s one hell of a pimp hand.
I imagine Browns fans are all pretty much into masochism in their free time. The Steelers will end up 2-14 and the two wins will be over Cleveland.
I root for the Bills.
I don’t have any strong opinions on the Jets or Giants.
This is a hell of a Game 7
I am amazed the Rangers are still in it. Pittsburgh has been better for like 90% of the series.
Wow.
Glad to see it, been too long.
My cousin will be happy, too.
Somehow… w00t!
My son’s college ended on Friday and he went down to Manhattan with his roommate for a few days before heading home. Somehow they ended up at the game today, lucky kid. He said it was the most electric sports event he’d ever been at, the crowd was wild and never stopped the noise.
He also texted me to apologize for buying a “pricy” Rangers jersey on my credit card. Sigh.
I can’t even guess how much those tickets went for. ?
I can’t even guess how much that jersey went for. Buying one at the venue isn’t the cheapest option.
That aside, what a game to attend! That experience will be with him forever.

Not separating the point from the rest of the brisket: debatable but I’ll roll with it.
Smokes the brisket at 275 degrees Fahrenheit: No, just no. 225F, tops.
Smokes the brisket meat side up so all the fat cap drips into the smoker, not into the the meat: Fer fuck’s sake…
Pulls it after only eleven hours: you like chewing on rubber bands, eh? Eighteen hours minimum, or GTFO.
Doesn’t let it rest for at least an hour or two:..uh…
“Now I’m going to cut it at an inch thick per slice”: cuts it at around two inches per slice.
*SMDH, slowly walks away*
Why would one waste time with moo cow when pig is plentiful? I’d still give it a taste though.
Some of us prefer moo meat. ?
Burnt Ends are KC’s unique contribution to bbq. If you’re ever in town, hit up LC’s.
I’ll have it all.
Smokes the brisket at 275 degrees Fahrenheit: No, just no. 225F, tops.

Pulls it after only eleven hours: you like chewing on rubber bands, eh? Eighteen hours minimum, or GTFO.
If he did 18 hours at 275, he’d have shoe leather.
Thus the 225 degrees tops at eighteen hours. Hell, a lot of joints smoke it for twenty-two hours barely above 200F.
Oh, fuck me. That wasn’t supposed to be a response to your comment.

Still rowing, can bang out an hour without too much effort (if I have something good to watch, like F1 or playoff hockey).
That said, minutes were a bit limited this week for no good reason (other than dealing with my neighbor’s hot water heater letting loose yesterday – shared basement, so I’ve got some skin in the game and no way she could deal with it herself).
Trying to watch the gratuitous calories – eggs are a nigh-perfect food, but I don’t really need 4 every morning, unless I’m going o throttle back lunch (which I don’t).

Even cloudier now.

Southeast. 30-ish degrees above the horizon. It’s a very faint red right now.
Ugh I’d have to go outside.
Going to sleep instead.
I had to break out the Sky Map app on my phone to be sure.
Sounds more like Tres’ ass.
An eclipse always signals the birth of a Firster. Not their biological birth, but their ascent into something more than a man.
The ascent requires a sacrifice of something of great importance to the Firster.
Like your virginity?
The Supper Of The Firsters that takes place during an eclipse is a very serious thing. You would tremble at the sight of it. It is the unspoken, dark side of The Firsthood. To make light of it is to invite great evil into your life.
Minor Firsters are born during eclipses of the moon. Great Firsters, ones that exist only once every several hundred years, are born during eclipses of the sun.
I’m intrigued by the Calgary fan rocking the hockey sweater with leather hot pants and would like to learn more.
Anybody else get murderous thoughts when the stranger sitting next to you does “binbo yusuri” – restless leg shaking? Dude next to me at the coffee shop has been doing it for half an hour. That shit and the facial tic thing is rampant here among young guys. Anxiety, I suppose. Thanks for the reminder, Chafed. Still getting a couple hours cycling in a day. Haven’t done an eye in a couple months.

That’s brilliant work, Straff
That really is impressive.
No, but then i used to do heel thing. Haven’t done it in a while.
Did you notice when you were doing it? It’s amazing to me that, if the are conscious of it, they’d continue doing it. Obviously, it’s annoying to other people.
Sometimes. It’s getting kind of hazy, but it was more semi conscious. Like scratching an itch or such without thinking about it. And yes, it would annoy others.
Really amazing. The reflections are a very nice detail
Yes. I can’t stand that crap. Sit still or go run it off.
Nice drawing!
“Oh ya eclipse….wait…why can’t u see the moon.” Puts down beer and realizes…it’s already started
If this were ancient times I’d be creeper the fuck out
“Why can’t I see the moon?!” during an eclipse. Hilarious.
Dog came out with me and seemingly looked up also and stood still…then gruffed…and went inside.
Interesting about the dog.
It’s re-emerging now in my neck of Nevada. Quite lovely with our low light pollution.
Eerie, even though we know the science. I can easily imagine it seeming ominous to early human civilizations.
Very pretty here. Turned quite red an hour ago.
So amazing. I understand why it freaked people out.
In the early 2000’s we had a solar eclipse that was about 75%. Our dog and the neighborhood birds were freaking out. There was enough eclipse that the day looked “off”. We had a holly tree that made effectively made pinholes, so we had hundreds of eclipsing solar images spread out under the tree.
Our next big event out here is on the 26th when the Sun passes north of us. At local noon there are no shadows since the Sun is directly overhead. It is fun to go outside and see.
I remember the pinholes through the leafy tree effect from my distant yoot! It was very cool. So many little “crescent suns” on the driveway and patio!
Still waiting for sunset and moonrise here.
We did well today with 3rd overall and won one race outright. There was some excitement when someone went overboard in the starting area about 2 minutes before the race started. They delayed the sequence and did a restart. Drinking their purchase of cuba libres post-race was sweet.
Is there a cuba libre penalty for hitting the drink?
There is for protests and basically 14 boats protested their actions. They had to pick up their crew member but having to do it in the middle of the line during the 5 minutes start sequence made all the other boats have to give way- and that was the penalty.
If the crew member decided to swim before the sequence of away from a crucial area then there would have been no foul.
It is unusual to have multiple people go into the drink this season. Normally it happens once every couple of years.
The starting sequence has the class/race flag go up at the horn/cannon 5m before.
The “P” flag goes up at 4m* with another horn/cannon.
The “P” flag comes down at 1m with another horn/cannon.
At 0 the class/race come down with a horn/cannon.
If the line is clear nothing else happens. If people are over early the “X” flag goes up, if the start is abandoned the “1st Repeat” flag goes up with a horn/cannon.
*Sometimes a different letter flag goes up to indicate a different action for over the line early boats.
This is an example of a start sequence. It is an Irish broadcaster at the Olympics who A) Doesn’t know anything about sailing, and B) is drunk.

Sorry you’ll miss the eclipse! I’m sure some pro will have great time lapse footage up online tomorrow.
Glad you had a good sailing day. Glad they got the man overboard too! Cheers.
Watching it from the backyard. I am about to go into the pool with a drink and my binos.
As a Bruins fan, it’s odd watching Lucic and Seguin playing against each other, though it’s been a long time since either of them were Bruins.
*wipes tear from eye* Teen #2 just said “the government is what messes everything up”.
It’s a start.

Who are these retards buying a home in NJ?
I always assume people buying in NJ are fleeing NYC.
Yep.
On the other hand, there is this joke:
“Why are people from New York City assholes? You’d be an asshole too if New Jersey was the light at the end of the tunnel.”
I missed the eclipse. ?
Me Too 🙁
It was too cloudy last night, good thing I watched it Saturday night.
Har!
Now THAT is a First!
Ah Shit!
Happy now?
Off to the gym.

Good morning, l0, DEG, Sean, U, & Stinky!
First couple of days at work this week should be pretty quiet and routine. Wednesday I’ll have to write up the minutes (from the Zoom recording) of Tuesday evening’s monthly Board meeting, since the director with the title of “Secretary” decided he didn’t want to actually do the work involved any more. As long as I don’t have to attend the actual meeting, I don’t care.
…and good morning to you, too, Teh Hype!
Good Morning!
It’s Password Change Day!
I get to look forward to a day (week) of mistyping a brand new fourteen-character-plus password after spending the last year developing the muscle memory to enter the last one quickly.
You get to keep yours for a whole YEAR??? I have to change my Windows password every month! (The plethora of other passwords I have for various sites/applications varies in how often they have to change, but I try to keep most of them on roughly the same schedule.) It only recently increased from a nine- to a twelve-character minimum. I’m not looking forward to having to change it – I like the one I have right now! ?
They rolled out the 12 month expiry at the same time they moved to a 14 character minimum. Used to be 8 character, 90 days.
Monthly is really just asking for trouble.
I’ve never understood how constantly changing passwords enhances security. Seems to me that it encourages things like writing down passwords on post-it notes because you can’t remember the latest password.
Stay away from my desk.
“passwordguess1”
“passwordguess2”
“passwordguess3”
etc.
Great! Now you’ve gone and locked the account.
Thanks, Trashy.
Morning Good people! I seem to be fading away. It happens to all of us eventually. Have a great one if you can manage.
Have a wonderful day yourself.
No! Not that!
Seriously – hey, buddy! Don’t do that!
Damn your nimble fingers, GT! How was the musical entertainment over the weekend?
And don’t do that, Festy!
It was fun! Caught the first (outdoor) set of a combo in which a friend plays – tiny, bubbly gal playing a big ol’ doghouse bass – then moved indoors to hear some acquaintances play dueling keyboards. Good thing we did – it started to rain! Caught part of another indoor set over some mac & cheese and peach cobbler, but then went home before the (relocated indoors) headliner – TT indicated he was “running out of gas.” First of what is planned to be a monthly event (at least during warm weather.)
Excellent. Rain and fog forced us indoors for our weekend getaway. Not such a bad thing as it turns out…
I’ve loved that tune since I was about 9 years old!
Mornin’, Festy Do NOT fade away!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NN2L84dvoag
I think the consensus is don’t do that.
Sooorry! I’m losing it physically. I haven’t given up, I’m struggling. I’ll fight but the last few weeks have been not very good. It ain’t over until it’s over.
That’s an interesting song. The band look like they are willing to drain my blood.

UCS is correct. Jumping from the frying pan into the fire, so to speak.

Son-in-law stopped by on Saturday. Asked about things and offered golf and fishing trips. He’s a good man… I’ll not be doing any of that for the foreseeable future but he meant it. Katy is a lucky gal. He’s a good husband, a good Dad and just an all-round good person. The best of them, he is.
Sounds like a great guy.
No fishing trips? Don’t those involve chilling out on a boat with brewskis while pretending to catch fish? Should be doable.
Sitting too long makes my legs not work very well. I can’t walk if I sit for hours.
I can just imagine myself trying to really hit a golf ball and getting all Looney-Tuned.
I miss golf, can’t swing a club due to stenosis. But there’s always this (NSFW):
