Busy here, but nothing to bore you with. Lets go straight to what you came here for:  news beyond the wall.

Can I say something controversial about Batman?  Fuck Batman.

Don’t go to Mexico, you might get robbed by the Federales catch COVID.

You sure you couldn’t just issue a Letter of Marque there Lil Marco?

I am inclined to believe this, given the theories I’ve come across from people that aren’t dumb.

This weeks sign the empire is dying:  Summit of Americas

Fun times.  Here’s a tune to round this out.  Have a great Tuesday.

    Aztec Batman… *SPOILER ALERT*

    He loses. The Spanish win.

      Not Puma Man?

      • SDF-7

Nooooooooo! Now I have that damned theme music going through my head!

(And no, never Puma Man… get the sidekick that could actually do things [I forget his name and don’t care enough to look it up] instead…)

        “Batmanuel”

      • Nephilium

I think you mean Die Fledermaus!

      • db

I seem to recall that the animated series had Batmanuel, too, but the fandom link only mentions the live action show.

      • Aloysious

Live action series Bat Man well was played by the wonderful Nestor Carbonel.

      • Nephilium

So… Ben Edlund (who created the Tick), sold the animated rights to Fox Kids, who made the animated show. Several characters were made up for the animated show and were not in any comic book first (Die Fledermaus, American Maid, Sewer Urchin, and SPEAK among them). Since the characters were made for the animated show, Fox Kids owned the rights to them, not Ben Edlund. When Fox bought the rights to do a live action television show, Fox Kids wouldn’t license the animated characters to be used in a live action show.

So… they made up the new characters for the live action show. Showing that Fox has been fucking up good things for as long as people can remember.

      • db

        ah, so.

      • db

“Fox Kids” wouldn’t license rights to “Fox?”

Are they somehow distinct in ownership?

      • Nephilium

        db:

I believe they’re distinct corporate entities. I also believe the request to license the characters came about when they were working on creating the pilot. But after Fox picked it up, Fox Kids still wouldn’t license the characters. I’ve seen reported by several places that Ben really wishes that he could use SPEAK the dog (and that SPEAK was his favorite character ever)..

      • db

I guess that makes sense in a twisted entertainment-industry sort of way.

I can imagine some person in charge of licensing at Fox Kids having a grudge against a former colleague at FOX just doing that to fuck with them.

Batman’s helping the Aztecs? As bad as the conquistadors were, the Aztecs were worse. Much much worse.

    • SDF-7

Ripping out someone’s heart and offering it to the gods is no joke…. Bit of a riddle as to why he’d go along with it.

Maybe we can get Antarctic Batman yet who’s really based on Penguin.

Mr. Fucking Freeze would like a word.

Is Biden capable of yelling and casting blame elsewhere in TWO languages? Seems like he’s having trouble with just one.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

I’ll take his stupid yelling over the creepy whisper any day.

      • The Other Kevin

Creepy whispers in Spanish? I see your point.

20 something years ago I came up with the idea that all homeschool families fall into one of 8 categories based on 3 independent variables:

      Religious yes/no
      Hippy yes/no
      Libertarian yes/no

I was just reading through the dead thread so will carry over.

There’s a lot of overlap between your categories. Only the last category would really apply to my family. But I’m sure conservatives would consider my pro-drug legalization, anti-foreign intervention, conscription/the draft is slavery, modern school system is a prison views to be hippy.

I also applied to homeschool through a religious exemption. Doing so provides a level of freedom of oversight not granted to secular homeschoolers. It basically cuts through all of the red tape associated with homeschooling and the cut is permanent once the exemption is granted. I don’t see how a libertarian wouldn’t go the religious exemption route.

In an update on Monday, the health agency said the level of COVID-19 in Mexico was being upgraded from Level 2 (moderate) to Level 3 (high).

People who go to Mexico, it said, should be vaccinated, and those who are not should avoid travel to the country.

“If you are not up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines, avoid travel to Mexico,” the health agency said in its advisory. “Even if you are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines, you may still be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19.”

The CDC can go fuck itself.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio has asked U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland to request an Interpol red alert notice for the arrest of Venezuelan strongman Nicolás Maduro so he can be brought to the United States to face drug trafficking charges.

    Manuel Noriega redux?

Though it does seem like we’re rehashing the 70’s, I think it’s too early for that sort of thing. We need a Reagan type figure first.

López Obrador said Monday that the allies’ policy was equivalent to saying “I’ll supply the weapons, and you supply the dead. It is immoral.”

“How easy it is to say, ’Here, I’ll send you this much money for weapons,” Lopez Obrador said. “Couldn’t the war in Ukraine have been avoided? Of course it could.”

In March, a half-dozen legislators from López Obrador’s Morena party helped create a congressional “Mexico-Russia Friendship Committee.”

The Morena party said “we respect the freedom of thought of our members” after a youth group apparently affiliated with the party sent an open letter to the Russian ambassador supporting the invasion.

Mexico doesn’t seem to know its place.

The far-right incumbent trails leftist ex-president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (2003-2010) in the polls. The Datafolha institute gave Lula 48 percent of the vote to 27 percent for Bolsonaro in a poll released last week.

Brazilians are hurting from soaring prices and sinking purchasing power.

Annual inflation currently stands at 12.13 percent, far above the central bank’s target of 3.5 percent.

Well, if there’s one sure way to combat inflation — it’s electing leftists.

Brazil is the country of the future… and always will be.

    • Lackadaisical

Heh. They’re gonna be in serious trouble if they put ‘Lula’ in again.

I guess KDW got tired by the time he got to the last para:

““[They] don’t believe there should be any restrictions on the types of ammunition you can buy, or . . . armor piercing . . . [they] feel like there shouldn’t be any restrictions since the Second Amendment is how we founded the country. It’s my God-given right. Well, God didn’t write the Constitution, nor amendments,”

      • trshmnstr the terrible

It’s my God-given right. Well, God didn’t write the Constitution, nor amendments

Nope, still can’t have my guns.

  10. juris imprudent

Well this should make you smile.

That the institute has spent the course of the Biden administration paralyzed makes it typical of not just the abortion rights community — Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice America, and other reproductive health organizations had similarly been locked in knock-down, drag-out fights between competing factions of their organizations, most often breaking down along staff-versus-management lines. It’s also true of the progressive advocacy space across the board, which has, more or less, effectively ceased to function. The Sierra Club, Demos, the American Civil Liberties Union, Color of Change, the Movement for Black Lives, Human Rights Campaign, Time’s Up, the Sunrise Movement, and many other organizations have seen wrenching and debilitating turmoil in the past couple years.

    • The Other Kevin

Nothing like a common villain to rally the troops. That’s why they keep trying to bring him back.

  11. westernsloper

    ….should be vaccinated,

Seriously? When the whole fucking world knows the vaccines don’t work? JFC on a popsicle stick.

    • JaimeRoberto (shama/lama/ding dong)

What do you mean they don’t work? My vaxxed and boosted daughter just passed it to my vaccinated wife and probably to me. The bright side is that we also probably smuggled the virus into Canada on our road trip.

My daughter says she’s embarrassed that she caught it and that she thought was was superior enough to not catch it. She is superior. She’s my kid after all. But that isn’t going to protect her from the virus.

      • SDF-7

So *that’s* why The Twink of the North supposedly has it again!

      • westernsloper

The bright side is that we also probably smuggled the virus into Canada….

        HA!

    • This Machine

It’s just part of their mantra now. They will continue to assert the usefulness of the vaccine regardless of any evidence to the contrary. After all, if you’re vaccinated and you still catch COVID, well, just think of how much worse it would have been if you had never been jabbed in the first place!

      • grrizzly

I caught COVID two weeks ago for the first time. Pureblood. It was just a mild cold. If I hadn’t been travelling, maybe I wouldn’t have even noticed it. I abstained from alcohol–for a day. That was my sacrifice. Who needs the horse paste when aspirin and tea cure in no time?

      • This Machine

Exactly. In all the fuss over alternative therapies for COVID and the whirlwind of spin caused by the middlewits about “horse paste” and “fish tank cleaner,” the fact that most healthy adults could ride it out without anything more than managing their symptoms just got lost.

My fiancée and I caught it just before New Year’s Eve and if it hadn’t been for the cough and the sore throat, we both would’ve assumed it was a really bad hangover (which it also partly was). So we solved it like a bad hangover – pedialyte and a huge boozy brunch after some tandem cardio. No change to daily life whatsoever.

      • slumbrew

        tandem cardio

I would have figured this line of argument died after everybody and their dog got sick with the variant that blew around last winter, and yet the bodies of the unvaccinated were not being piled in the streets like cordwood.

Also, phrases like “my dudes” being uttered by wannabe elite bien pensants drive me up a fucking wall. Be professional or drop the dumb internet slang, you’re not fooling anyone.

“WHO Will Rename Monkeypox Virus to Minimize Stigma and Racism

The World Health Organization will officially rename monkeypox, in light of concerns about stigma and racism surrounding the virus that has infected over 1,600 people in more than two dozen countries.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO’s director general, announced Tuesday morning that the organization is “working with partners and experts from around the world on changing the name of monkeypox virus, its clades and the disease it causes.” He said the WHO will make announcements about the new names as soon as possible.

More than 30 international scientists said last week that the monkeypox label is discriminatory and stigmatizing, and there’s an “urgent” need to rename it. The current name doesn’t fit with WHO guidelines that recommend avoiding geographic regions and animal names, a spokesperson said.

The proposal echoes a similar controversy that erupted when the WHO moved quickly to rename SARS-CoV-2 after people around the world referred to it as the China or Wuhan virus in the absence of an official designation. The actual animal source of monkeypox, which has been found in a wide variety of mammals, remains unknown.”

We’re already making an impact: witness our exclusive exposé of Madison Cawthorn’s attempt, earlier this year, to smuggle a loaded firearm onto a commercial airliner, as well as, filing an ethics complaint with the U.S. House of Representatives.

Following the link in that text, I see this:

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) announced via Twitter several hours after the incident on Tuesday that Cawthorn had been cited for “Possession of a Dangerous Weapon on City Property” and was released after turning over the gun to the officers.

Which tells me they are full of shit since it is the CMPD that released the information about Cawthorn.
