We’ve been blessed with the weather this winter. I’m just going to keep enjoying it.
And she can shoot. Would.
Bureaucrats know best.
I hope he brought a wrecking ball. Mendacious cuntes.
I’m sure it wasn’t gang related.
Appropriate for the day.
Marvelous song, marvelous album.
I’ve always thought MM was an under appreciated keyboard player and musician. Long / deep recording history and there’s great stuff throughout.
A better music choice
De gustibus non disputandum.
“De gustibus non disputandum.”
Very nicely done and quite apt, Shirley Knott.
Completely unrelated except for the Latin (from one of my favorite thinkers who was quoting Virgil): “Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito.”.
Didn’t Springsteen write it, though? Even though MM did it better, we still have to dock points.
I have listened to the same kind of crap for 50 years and I am tired of it. However, MM’s Blinded By The Light inspires such strong nostalgic feelings and memories that I still love it. It is like a time machine for me. I could listen to it all day.
Amen. I love their version of Blinded. It’s a fantastic song.
Truth be told, I tend to listen to it once a day.
Just because.
Some of MM’s best work was by a Dylan. Same for The Byrd’s.
G-d’it, iPad OS now sneaks an ‘a’ ahead of any capitalized word, regardless of context. Still not fully used to having to edit that out.
a Dylan is a Minnesotan.
We’ll accept it.
Minneapolis, late 90s, Brother Sun, Sister Moon. Ring any bells. Loved her voice.
“Some of MM’s best work was by Dylan”
Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_BtAPvDxdk
I had no idea. I love the MM song, uh, version I guess.
Manfred Mann is under-rated as a solid arranger and performing musician. He may have played a lot of other people’s work, but he picked good stuff (usually).
Solar Fire is a whole other facet of the man and the band. 😉
But why was he wrapped up like a douche into the roller in the night?
“Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce
Another runner in the night”
Springsteen’s original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Iaca30QbOo
Springsteen’s version of this song has been overshadowed by Manfred Mann’s, but I really like the Springsteen take. It’s almost like a completely different song.
This is great, too and sampled by Kanye and everyone else.
So your thing is going to be playing biggest hit by your music choice of the day? It’s a safe play I guess but not very imaginative.
You wanted maybe Quinn the Eskimo?
Pretty Flamingo.
I prefer Pink ones.
Yeah, that’ll work.
As soon as you start posting links, you can post whatever obscure shit that nobodies ever heard of to your heart’s content.
Just for that, you get this.
For some reason, I just starting pounding my head rapidly into the wall.
It’s a friend of a friend’s band. I’ve got one of their CD’s sitting around here somewhere.
Lol.
I kind of like it!
He asked for obscure nobodies. 🙂
Obscure.
At least outside of early ’80s Twin Cities.

Sean: I feel it’s time to go even more obscure. This was the good opening band back in the day, and they even got a record deal.
@Neph
Bookmarked for further review. Track 1 didn’t suck.

I managed them. The drummer did much better on Forged in Fire. I saw his wife naked.

And now, an under construction humor warm-up
Drag Queens Protest Prayer at High School Football Game
LUBBOCK – “It’s just unecessary and offensive”, explained Shawnda Leer, a local drag queen. This was the general attitude among the protesters, who said that prayers
belong in churches, not in public places where children might be present. “Religion is complex, controversial topic that belongs to the world of adults”, Ms Leer
continued. “Why expose children to that? Let them grow up first so they can decide whether they want to be around it.”
A good kernel there, Derpy. How about tying it to the Drag Queen story hour?? This is subtle enough that your targets will miss it (well, they’re so fucking dim, why use them as a standard). But this same moralizing in that context would be Bee-worthy, I think.
Red eared sliders? Those turtles that like so bask on logs? They are capable of causing a problem to something other than an earthworm?
They are an invasive species so they’re not great for local native turtles. They make fine pets though.
In OK/TX, they got pushed around by the softshells and box turtles.
Too many were illegally harvested in OK/TX for sale in CA, where they escaped or got released and are now a problem.
Just keep domestic cats and dogs please. Maybe MAYBE fish.

Hayeksplosvies, I am disappoint.
Me so solly, chalie.
Oh, Plerr.
I have a purse made out of a turtle. It’s pretty cute. Straps onto a belt or belt loops. Good ol’ pondslider. Enough room for a few bucks, credit cards & ID, chapstick, and a phone. All I need.
My standard money clip is a Tight Wad. Just a base, non-printed one.
Nice! I know guys who’d love that.
I got mine on the Kickstarter, when it was half the price. At full price, I cringe. But I do love it as a money clip.
I’ve been happy with the Saddleback front pocket wallet.
I like that one. A clip is not for me.
That’s right up there with George Foreman patenting gravity, look everyone I invented a paper clip for money.
It’s a big step up from a butterfly paper clip (which I used when I was a kid).
I dig that.
I have one of these.
Highly recommended.

Thanks for posting the pics. That’s unique looking.

It always gets comments, overwhelmingly positive. But as you can imagine, I find occasions to wear it to be rather uncommon. Sometimes I do it just to go out if I don’t want a big purse to keep track of.

https://www.dailywire.com/news/appeals-court-rules-graffiti-artists-to-get-6-7-million-after-building-owner-tore-down-buildings
Somebody explain this to me. Because I can’t figure it out to save my life.
Judge orders a guy who owns some buildings to pay graffiti artists millions of dollars because he tore the buildings down.
Bonus, the judge specifically ordered the millions because the owner wasn’t sorry that he tore the buildings down.
Which one of us is crazy? Because somebody here is crazy.
What exactly does ownership mean anymore?
I think that is the point. A deliberate dump on property rights.
I’m not going to click on the link, as all it will do will infuriate me. ALL human rights start with property rights (beginning with property in one’s body).
I don’t care if the owner was an asshole or not. If those artists want their work to last, they can buy their own damn buildings, or build walls on their property to paint on. Fuck them.
Or, find some rich dude to finance your art. A lot of artworks financed by rich people for display in their own homes has survived hundreds of years, sometimes thousands.
Exactly. There’s no shortage of rich people to buy/finance that kind of art.
Whoever posited that the art market was a money laundering operation might not be correct, but damn if it wouldn’t be a perfect vehicle for doing so.
Is this the old story where the owner allowed the artists to use his building for years and then changed his mind and gave them no notice? No chance to save the building or even just document their works before they were destroyed? I’m all for property rights and if they (the artists) didn’t have a contract or some sort of agreement on paper then tough shit I guess but still it was an asshole move.
It may have ben an asshole move, or not. I don’t know how accurate your recap is, but I’d say this. It is precisely when you want to exercise your rights in an unpoular fashion that we need to protect them. It is pretty rare that popular and approved actions get infringed upon. Usually the path is demonize activity x then ban it.
This is true.
I agree, which is why I am a staunch defender of dog fighting, I don’t think the guy should be fined 6 mil (or anything, sans a broken agreement) but at the same time I feel confident in declaring him an asshole, and I know assholes.
I am a staunch defender of dog fighting
Me too, and in my experience expressing that opinion is about as popular as advocating for kiddie porn being legal, possibly a bit less.
Dog fighting bans are up there with the national parks on my “yes, technically this is anti-libertarian but if we ever actually get to that bridge, I’ll cross it then.” list of things.
Same.
Fuck dog fighting. Love NPs.
Philosophical purity is incompatible with humanity.
Oh, I agree. I’m not suggesting dying on those hills. I just push back in places like here when people start cheering Vick’s sentence or the like. If you want to disapprove of him for it knock yourself out. Just don’t cheer on the law coming down on him for it. You today me tomorrow and all that.
Yeah, I ain’t got no problems. I loved the dogs I had growing up, but they are property. Micheal Vick got shafted, especially since as far as I know he just let the fighting happen on his property, not actually abusing the dogs. He got sent to Leavenworth, and how many pols that broke laws even get jail time.
Yeah and I like Spanish bullfighting too but saying so gets me the side-eye.
Meanwhile, in the pure USA, tying up bulls’ and stallions’ balls for sport (many, many times for many, many competitions) is a thing.
But do you like bullfights on acid? Skinny skiing?
1. Don’t do acid (not that I wouldn’t)
2. I have never been skiing and I have never been skinny.
…I was going to link the Caddyshack clip, but it seems to be completely gone from youtube
Well done, copyright holder.
Which is a worse offense as a Mormon, acid or caffeine?
Acid.
Caffeine is not prohibited, except for the Gospel According to the Church Ladies and UberSpiritual.
But, where is acid mentioned as being bad?
For NA
In policy manuals.
I’m at an age where I could entertain the idea that God is not going to strike me dead if I experimented a little.
However, I could also entertain the idea that this is probably not the wisest course of action for someone of my mental health.
Isn’t it based on the, fairly standard in Abrahamic religions, idea of maintaining the purity of your body as a temple?
Yes. Tattoos and extraneous piercings (other than 1 hole per earlobe for women) are preached against, but is not prohibited. Same goes for facial hair and longer hair for men.
Many, MANY of our policies and cultural expectations come straight out of 1950s country club WASP culture.
Mojeaux: One of the reasons I never did hallucinogens was that my brain meat was probably questionable already. I figured it didn’t need more stress.
I’ll never do acid, but that’s not something I’d attribute to religious beliefs.
You just like the guys in their right outfits.
Yes, it is that story.
Would that count as a verbal contract? And what kind of damages can one get?
I don’t get it. I’m sure that pictures exist of all of the graffiti so was anything really lost? They couldn’t save it in any other way, so even if the developer gave the graffiti painters the 10 months the judge wanted would anything have changed? I hope the guy appeals.
That is part of what is confusing me. This was an appeals court. It seems absolutely insane to me.
Graffiti isn’t art and wood chippers create better artwork than Jackson Pollock.

At my mom’s house for the day with the kid. Was watching TV earlier and there was a Bloomberg ad every commercial break.
She turned on CNN earlier and, after they started showing Bernie probably winning in Nevada, started talking about how Trump’s going to win again. She’s voting for Bloomberg and hoping that Bernie has a (non-fatal, she says!) heart attack so he doesn’t run in November.
“Warren’s in second? Oh my god.” – My mom, just now, looking at CNN.com on her iPad.
“I hate Warren. I hate her with a passion. Almost as much as I hate Trump.”
(Like my dad, she’s a baby boomer 60s liberal. But at least she hasn’t donated to DWS.)
Wonder what Red eared slider soup tastes like? Or perhaps a red eared slider slider.
Like fabricating evidence? Those other problems?
Fabricating evidence is a daily activity for the FBI.
I love turtle soup.
The blase attitude toward the blatant fabrication of evidence, orchestration of process crimes, and whole idea of investigations in search of a crime is what appalls me most in recent events. Even the Trump fans are only outraged because it was done to a President. Consent decrees, coerced plea deals, lists upon lists of crimes with either no mens rea or the bastardized “knew you were doing x, which is perfectly legal and moral, but since y also occured without your intent x became a crime” version of mens rea, this is systematic tyranny, no different than the system in some African Dictatorship. This crap happens day in and day out. It’s how the EPA, SEC, FAA, ATF etc operate.
Even the Trump fans are only outraged because it was done to a President.
Perhaps. I think more would be outraged if any of it was reported as you state but it’s not. What burns me is “news outlets” such as MSN ignore the fact any of that happened and refer to it as “other problems”. It is dishonesty of the highest order.
The hiring of Kash Patel by Richard Grenell is one of the best news I’ve heard recently. Patel was featured in Lee Smith’s The Plot Against the President.

Bernie absolutely dominant.
It’s truly scary how many people—especially in the Good Old American West—are pro Bernie, pro socialist.
Tragic, really.
Most of them are incapable of understanding the gravity of the situation. They just hear “free shit” and vote for Santy Claus. The average person is quite scarily utilitarian in that way.
*sigh*
My mid-20’s niece was all on the Bernie train last election. I don’t want to know where she is now. In fairness, she hated Hillary more then me, which was entertaining.
They are still Democrats though…
The thing that is most concerning to me is that constitutionality is never a question in any particular proposal, socialist or not.
That ship has sailed. Even the “right wing” judges are never going to actually overturn all the unconstitutional case law. The ratchet only turns one way. Once some specious reasoning creates a new leftwing standard, it never goes away.
The one-way ratchet was supposed to be a Whiggish one involving Hayekian spontaneous order! /AIER
The Fabians out played us and took the arts and the schools.
I thought Iphones and Twitter were supposed to outflank the Fabians?
Hey! Rightists say that too! I mean they are right and we need to undermine these two but we need to do it in some way that is not populist or mean…somehow
Well, we are sitting comfortably having this discussion with at least somewhat sympathetic people through the blessings of tech, and while I find the deplatformings distressing I would point out pretty damn emphatically, that more people are exposed to libertarian, and liberty leaning conservative, ideas today than were when I grew up in the 70s and 80s. So while it may not have ushered in a libertarian moment I wouldn’t sneer at what it has accomplished.
I’m not an optimist, people choose slavery over liberty in alarming numbers, but despite talking about the ratchet myself let me point out:
1. something like 40 States now have shall issue carry laws. 40 years ago almost no States had this
2. From 1930 through the 70s price controls were widely implemented every time there was a financial blip. Today they have largely disapeared except in agricultural subsidies.
It has not all gone one way. Some of it has been pushed back toward liberty.
Except gun control is coming back and can easily make some major victories. And Bernie will be bringing back price controls. Things can be good until suddenly they aren’t good anymore.
I guess what really bothers me is complacency. “The Libertarian Moment” was incredibly complacent and even back in 2008 I was really skeptical and this has been proven to be warranted. I mean I’m not one to make always accurate predictions (I didn’t see Trump winning in 2016 and am skeptical that he will win in November) but I always felt that was incredibly presumptuous.
Also it reminds me of the incredible complacency of many classical liberals in 1914 who did not see WWI, socialism, Communism, fascism, Nazism and decolonialism coming despite plenty of evidence that classical liberalism was in serious trouble.
Or how I read a book about a Cambodian who thought the Khmer Rouge taking over couldn’t be that bad, right? Or how Rothbard thought that Khomeini wasn’t going to create a totalitarian theocracy in Iran since the Neocons have to be wrong on everything.
Or in other words: Trump, Sanders, Osama bin Laden and Xi Jinping weren’t supposed to happen but they did.
Winston only a fool expects to get their way without a struggle. Manifestly there are people opposed to liberty for various reasons. All I am saying is that it is not in fact a one way ratchet and progress can occur. I’m not even saying that Libertarians have anything to do with the pushback. Gay rights happened when the Democrats jumped on the float, concealed carry happened when the Republicans decided it would. BUt the fact hat these things did happen means spreading pro liberty ideas does have an effect. The Democrats championed Gay rights because most people had already decided it was agood idea. Ditto Republicans and CCW.
I’m no so sure how pro socialist they are. I really think that, outside of those nutbag campaign guys who apologize for the gulags, most Bernie supporters like the populist aspect of his shtick, and don’t think much beyond “free stuff.”
Most of them have AOC level understanding of basic economics and markets. Give them more details on how Bernie’s plans for all the “free stuff” will affect prices, restrict choices, slow economic growth in such a way that businesses not only don’t hire more workers, but start laying people off, and they may change their mind.
It’s akin to how Obama was personally popular, but people hated his policies (not always connecting the two).
Bernie identifies quite a few problems, his solutions are just the opposite of what is required.
If Bernie wins, those nutbag campaign guys are going to be directing the shock troops of purple-haired basement-dwellers with bike-locks. Probably nothing to worry about in the grand scheme of things but I have no doubt they’ll cause some mischief.
This is my take too. He’s the Dem version of Trump. People are voting for him as a fuck you to the establishment for the shit choices they are trying to force on the people.
The Bernie Bro thing is especially funny because the Dem establishment is basically trying to preserve the Slow Boil towards Socialism strategy that they have been successfully running for fucking decades, and the Bernie Bros are genuinely 100% convinced that the American people will actually vote in favor of it if its plainly labeled as such.
It’s like a frat that’s been mixing up the smoothest batch of jungle juice for years, and then the new pledge comes in and is telling all the girls to their face “Yeah that shits like 50% alcohol. If you drink it, you’ll be on your back upstairs in no time. Bottoms up!!!!”

Trumps twitter timeline is pretty wild right now. The things he tweets/re-tweets. Absolute mad man. I’m not even sure which one I should link because there’s quite a few gems. Alcohol doesn’t actually do that. It is prone to amplifying existing emotional states.

Jarf, I don’t know if I have ever knowingly ingested gin – unless it’s one of the active ingredients in Long Island Iced Tea, which is much too tasty for my own good.
I do have a little wine left from the bottle I got last weekend…
Jarflax:
Really? I’m Scotch-Irish, German, Swiss, British, and Slovakian. We don’t do Gin Lane.
GT: A Long Island traditionally has all of the clear liquors (gin, vodka, rum, and tequila) playing together.
That explains a lot. ::shudders at the memory of that particular bender::
GT: I have a friend who (if you give him enough to drink) will tell the story of when he went to a “tea party”. They were pouring pint glasses of Long Islands, without telling him. The story that I heard ends with him passing out in a bathtub…
To my credit, after I got home I still had the presence of mind to accept that regurgitation was a foregone conclusion, so I parked myself on the floor next to the toilet until I could declare “mission accomplished.”
But, do you?
Yes.
Sure, but what does SHE know about it??
“I thought America is free,” said Daiva Gaulyte, an immigrant from Lithuania who has lived under communism. “I’ve been in a communist country. I don’t want to have it here.”
“The communist took away my grandparents’ land, they transported them to Siberia, and then when they got all this land, they didn’t know what to do with them because they’re lazy,” Gaulyte continued. “Communists are lazy.”
“There is nothing they can do with that land so they gave lands back to work on it, but it was very difficult to have any kind of profit, but you could work on it because the lands were just sitting there and communists didn’t know what to do with it.”
Gaulyte also explained how she was restricted from viewing certain American materials under the rule of communism.
“We were not allowed to watch American movies,” she said. “We had to hide if someone gets American movie, we close the curtains and watch it so nobody knows.”
Gaulyte also offered advice to those who support Sanders’ bid to become the next president.
“I feel sorry that they do not understand what they are doing,” she concluded. “Maybe if they really want to experience socialism, they should go to the socialist country and live there for a while so they know what it is.”
The Soviet Union wasn’t true socialism. Now Sweden, that’s where it’s at. Besides, her grandparents probably had it coming.
Well, Sweden is the goal, but first we have to go farther left, because you um, science!
I like to remind people that the Scandinavian countries went through reform in the 1990s to become less socialist. And, that up until at least the 1960s (you know, when they were socialist), they killed the mentally handicapped.
Wait really?
I don’t know about killing them. They had mandatory sterilization laws ala Buck V Bell up until 1975.
Listen, lady, that’s not what the Bernie Bros want. Therefore, that’s not what’s going to happen. So don’t worry so much, you dumb cunt. You stupid, idiot, dumb cunt. We’ll show you what’s to worry about when he’s elected.

It’s not as easy as it looks. Not sure how much practice you have, but don’t be discouraged if your early efforts don’t quite match up if you’ve not already been doing similar work for a while.
I am an old hand at molding and painting. I am pretty sure I know the cycle of “this is going to be great!” to “This is never going to come together” to “Wow, this is really coming together!”
Problem is that it’s been forever. I think my hands needed to do that Kudu skull repair today to reacquaint my fingers with the molding and texturing (next up comes the paint!). I have needed to do it. I know that now.
Then Go at it, and good luck!
I just have to level set expectations with too many people, it becomes a default state.
I’m not bad at building things that work, but I am utterly incapable of making anything that looks good.
I used to have a family tradition of molding and painting new Christmas ornaments for my siblings, parents, etc. each year with the date inscribed. One year I even did a good Max the dog from Grinch, with the antlers stuck to his head, and hanging by his back foot. Very cute.
I just got too busy, but I don’t think that “work” ward shift in the work/life balance was the right move, or at least not to the right magnitude.
Time for some therapy.
One of the many years I was super poor, I gave each of my siblings a painting I had made. I only know that 1 of my 4 siblings still has his. If Trump wins a second term and the cartoon takes off, maybe he can cash in on that.
IDK, you don’t get to your position without being excessively devoted to work. All my coworkers that had families and hobbies have pretty much stayed put or gradually climbed the ladder. However, the asshole who basically lived in the PFA lab is now managing the laboratories at JPL, and his counterpart in solid state chemistry is now inc harge of the analytical division at… fuck, I’m to drunk to remember, but that big multinational out of Belgium.
Not Adahn, That’s true. But it’s hard during mid life to figure out if that is what I’m really supposed to be doing. I’d feel more optimistic about the hard-over on work side if I didn’t think our country could go to hell based on one election (which I think is true).
What will I regret on my deathbed, and what will I be happy to have done?
CPRM, I noticed that most of the original art in my house is my mom’s work. Your paintings will live on too.
@hayeksplosives; that one painting will live on, until my little brother’s wife makes him clean out the garage. Outside of school assignments, they are the only paintings I’ve ever done, and that one is the only extant one I know of. That’s why I said if I ever do become famous for cartoons, he’ll make bank if he still has it.
Silly Max prototype. A little crude, but I always kept the prototypes myself.

You allowed Bears fans under your roof? I hope you beat them so hard even your orphans felt bad for them.
That looks really cool!
I used to love building model airplanes (and occasionally tanks). I wish I had the time to do stuff like that. Heck, nowadays I’m lucky to find time to sketch or paint.
Let us know how it goes!
It does look super cool. It makes me feel bad about getting rid of most of my bookshelves and books. Something like that might have kept them around.
I hadn’t even thought of using a 3D printer for that stuff.
That is super cool. I can imagine an 1880’s London alley diorama (very much like the one in your link) in between my two Sherlock Holmes collections.
*to-do list gets even longer*
Yeah, I’m definitely going London on the first try. If I like it, I might do Tuscany for the opposite bookcase (to match the house architecture and nestle in between the travel and art b ooks).
You could always start with a NoDak themed one to begin with. Just sweep all the books off one shelf. Voila! NoDak in a nutshell!
By which I mean flat and empty. Not that you NoDaks are a bunch of unwashed illiterates.
Dude I’d go low profile if I were from OmarKlobuchatopia.
Right?!
…and governor Dayton, and Senator S. Smalley, and Senator Wellstone…
Gov. The Body wipes out all those sins.
And what are you complaining about? I said you weren’t a bunch of illiterates. Learn to take a compliment.

Why are you reading Terry Pratchett in Russian?
https://www.macleans.ca/economy/welcome-to-the-era-of-woke-capitalism/
American capitalism has not lived up to its promise to a lot of people
Capitalism is exclusive property ownership and freedom of association. Where has that fallen short of anything? Methinks the issue is the homeopathic fascism we’ve been engaging in for the past 100 years.
Damn right. This nonsense of “hasn’t live up to the promise” or “only helps the rich” is such a display of ignorance. Ayn Rand was right, if capitalists won’t vigorously defend the incredible benefit of what they do for most people, they have no one but themselves to blame when the authoritarians turns on them.
Lower income people in the West today, and especially in America, have such an amazing amount of material wealth and consumer choices that kings of old could only dream about. And all of this is provided through free exchange and without violent coercion, despite the market distortions created by government.
Serious questions:
How would they do that?
What would that look like?
How could they keep from being cast as the villain?
Start with educating your employees. e.g. “You know, folks, 25% of our sales go to exports. What do you think happens to some of your jobs when the government won’t let us compete with our foreign competitors?”
Be like Trump: never apologize, always aggrandize, and mock your opponents.
If A is screaming and ranting about B, and B is meekly apologizing trying to make A feel better, than neutral observer C concludes that A is mostly right about their complaints, and B actually is the bad guy.
If A is screaming and ranting about B, and B says “fuck you, you lazy piece of shit, I am proud of working hard and providing for my family. You should have spent more time in calculus class and less time going to stupid protests” then C concludes, correctly, that A is just a whiny loser.
I think the trouble with the new wave of tech billionaires is, to them, it doesn’t maybe feel like they have earned it. A lot of them did it by doing something they genuinely love, playing with code or hardware, and hit on something that turned out to be worth a ton. An old time CEO of a Ford or US Steel who spent the morning wrestling with suppliers, and the afternoon in protracted negotiations with the union, he felt the strain and the weight of the job. But to a Google CEO whos daily process is more like “hey I hired all these really really really smart people and today they had a breakthrough and now I am 20 million richer then I was yesterday” I can see how they would feel like its an unfair windfall.
Hell to the fuck yeah Viking. One of the best parts of the Trump presidency is that he is giving a master class in how to deal with the bullshit of the left. Never apologize, attack harder when attacked. Now, it doesn’t have to be done in his particular style, but the days of milquetoast conservativism need to really go by the wayside.
Also, that he calls out the media. It’s really very childlike, especially how he does it, but it needs to be done, no matter how whiny it seems. He knows his audience. He knows they know what it is and they don’t like it.
Yeah, it’s petty.
It has to be. He’s willing to get dirty.
I think he would be even more effective with it if he used (self deprecating) humor and mocking even more. The Russia! shit at this point should be complete mockery. They aren’t putting forth real arguments, so don’t treat them as serious.
And for an ever growing number of people it’s mostly unappreciated. Pathetic.
What do words mean?
Nina Turner, national co-chair of the Sanders campaign, made the remarks during a segment on CNN’s “Newsroom,” which featured fallout from this week’s Democrat debate on NBC.
CNN’s Brooke Baldwin said, “There’s this new ‘Wall Street Journal’/NBC News poll that found that two-thirds of the respondents said that they were actually uncomfortable with a socialist president.”
“But when you break it down – Shakespeare once said, what is in a name? A rose by any other name smells just as sweet,” Turner responded. “What is Democratic socialism? It is government of the people, by the people, and for the people. What does that mean?”
“I am talking about this particular poll,” Baldwin responded. “And I want to – I want an answer on the fact that the majority of America is not comfortable with a socialist president.”
“He is a Democratic socialist,” Turner said, later claiming that “the majority of the American people” support Sanders’ government run health care program and free college.
“Turner said, later claiming that “the majority of the American people” support Sanders’ government run health care program and free college.”
No, they really don’t. At least, not when they learn there’s no such thing as a free lunch: they can’t choose their doctor, treatments are restricted, wait times for appointments go from an hour to months or longer…Oh, and did we mention your taxes are going up to pay for all this “free” stuff? Wait, you thought we’d tax only the rich!? You’re funny. Besides, they’re aren’t enough rich people to pay for our centrally planned goodies, and those that do exist will have little incentive to make more money, build new businesses, create innovative products that improve the lives of most Americans, especially lower income ones, when they know any profits they can eek out will be confiscated by the Feds.
I for one am looking forward to him killing my employer sponsored health coverage that I’m perfectly happy with and replacing it with a shitty government plan and a higher tax rate. That doesn’t appeal to you for some reason?
“No no no, Mein Fuhrer is not a socialist or communist! Heir Hitler is a national socialist! It is completely different!”
Happiness is warm nuts.
We stopped by the farmers market today to pick up some beautiful porterhouses for tomorrow. While there I stopped in the nut/candy store. I picked up a pound of fresh roasted cashews and a pound of their pecans. They roast their stuff on site. The cashews were fresh out of the roaster and still warm. OMG. So good. Fuck Planters.
Um, unless you’re in Brazil or India I doubt those cashews are being sold by the farmers. Good job being a hipster.
Forget it…he’s rolling.
I was expecting a cashews are seeds, not nuts…not expecting being called a hipster.
Where did I put my duelling glove?
Under your fedora hipster.
Ackshually, it’s a trilby.
It’s a pork pie hat, you dirty merkin sniffer.
I notice he’s not arguing being called a “hipster”.
One of the best parts of working renfairs (other than chainmail bikinis) are the nut vendors. Especially when they take them hot from the roaster, hit them with cinnamon-sugar to melt on them then brown the crust for you.
Last time I went to a renfair the hot nuts were cold, stale and over coated. It was like eating movie theater jordan almonds and I thrw out 2/3
Not Adahn: Staff or Cast?
I did a year as cast at a local one.
I get raw cashews from the Indian grocer and toast them myself. Soooooo good. Just something about the fresh warm nuts!
Did you know that cashew nuts come from the caju fruit? They kind of hang down off the fruit in this shell that they use for a bunch of products like waterproofing and paints. It’s really a seed instead of a nut. The fruit is really nice, but almost never seen outside the tropics.
Yeah, the pics of those things are weird. But dayum, cashews are the bomb. My favorite “nut” by far.
They are the best “nut”, with a very close second being the pistachio. I eat them both voraciously I actually dig the unsalted cashews even more, and I am a believer in plenty of salt on most things. I even salt my (Mexican) beers.
agreed
I’ve never had unsalted cashews – that sounds like something I would not like.
Happiness is warm nuts.
*unzips*
*sigh*
So here we have a company called King’s Nuts. They sell everywhere, especially at Ren Faire’s.
I had a decent day- Dayton Car Show, then a trip to here https://meci.com/ to fulfill a shopping list:

As much as I love archaic science, it occurs to me that I have no understanding whatsoever of the operating principle behind radio tubes. CRTs, electrode discharge and X-ray, yes. but not whateverthefuck those transistor substitutes are supposed to be.
I do have vague recollections of tube tester machines at the front of Radio Shacks and my dad occasionally plugging things into them, but that’s about it.
Well, when electrons love each other very much, they enter into a vacuum “chamber” that contains an anode, cathode, grid, and collector……
I love it when you talk dirty like that. I dream of Transmitters/Receivers of long ago. My Kingdom for a klystron….
Have you told UCS about this place,
nerdTres?Those don’t look comfortable.
Mendelson’s closing will truly be the end of an era. (I think that’s where Mr. GT found my “Callipygian” t-shirt.)
Also, Go Flyers! (They did!)
Sandy was outside when I walked in. I wonder what they’re going to do with the inventory, unless some industrial salvage place is gonna buy it up
Damn it, today I’ve learned that one of my old Wahoo shirts doesn’t fit anymore,
That sort of looks like an adult version of Ax-Man’s that we have in Minnesoda. The web site doesn’t do it justice though. The best part of Ax-Man’s is wandering the store reading the signs that the workers put up over the bins of surplus crap.
Robo Nips is a perfect example

‘MURICA sized smokehouse burgers.
More reasonably sized smokehouse burgers.
Hoovers on Manor road in Austin cooks burger in their smoker, and they’re pretty awesome.
“go down to the local hardware and get yourself some heat duct or something”..lol I am a fan of these guys.
I have made this of theirs and damn!
So a small burger compared to what’s offered here
I just finished dinner and I want one.
Now that I’m doing the last bit of “out of storage” unpacking, I’ve dusted off my rather old but very nice hp “all-in-one” touchscreen PC. It hasn’t been powered on in 818 days it tells me, but it is now greedily sucking in new updates and Kaspersky protections. I think it might become a kitchen fixture. Or maybe a music studio thing?
It’s pretty nice.
We owned several of those. My wife loved them because it felt more like a TV than a computer. The bad news was that I eventually had to move her to a Mac because I couldn’t teach her to stop clicking on malware popups and was tired of re-installing everything from the ground up.
The last one we owned found a good home with one of my son’s friends. His buddy’s family was mostly broke (but working hard to overcome previous bad economic choices). I gave his buddy a bunch of our old PC’s and helped him upgrade them (mostly to nice linux machines). His buddy eventually graduated with an AA in CompSci and has been pulling in some nice money for a few years.
Tomorrow I have to get the pos Ford Ranger that needs a clutch out of the shop (that I don’t want to replace) so I can back a trailer in here and disassemble my table saw so I can take it to work Monday. Unpacking boxes sounds nice.
I have something similar – and it’s also sitting in a closet. Does anyone actually use “touchscreens”? Am I crazy or is that a feature nobody asked for?
It’s a feature no one asked for.
My spouse likes it because he’s not a computer savvy human, so poking with his finger at what he wants makes sense.
Plus, I originally bought it to be his music studio computer with a Line 6 pod attached so he could arrange virtual pedals and effects and mess with the equalizers all with finger touches.
*blink*
*blink*
*blink*
So, it works for the music stuff, right?
Yup! Just hasn’t seen the light of day for a while. I think it’s gonna work again though.
It’s one of those “great in theory” things.
Other than a semi-dedicated Sonos/Spotify/Plex controller, the touch screen never gets used.
In those cases, a cheap tablet died as well and takes less space.
I’m not a clean-freak until I see a computer screen with grubby paw-prints all over it. Arrrrggghggbrdffgghh
My work laptop is a windows touch screen/foldable screen to a tablet thing. I fucking hate it. It wouldn’t boot up the other day and I had to call the tech guys. He said the hardrive was dropped from the boot list. How does that even happen? Fuck windows.
*computer illiterate mac fan*
Oxymoron

*computer expert mac fan*
They all work for Apple.
#metoo
I know my way around Windows – kind of required for my career – and choose not to deal with that BS at home.
Rough math says I’m pushing up on 60,000 hours of working with computers (thus, I’ll claim “expert”) and, due to the fact they make both the hardware and software, Macs mostly “just work” – just like Sun Microsystems used to.
They pay me to f-around with kernel drivers for various hardware, I don’t need to spend my personal time doing that (plus, we have personal Macs at work).
I’m a Microsoft-shop programmer. Fortunately, I don’t have to deal with hardware issues 🙂
Touch screens worked OK for running the software for the radio station, but the mouse was always the better option.
RUSHUN SPIE!
Yeah, yeah. But they don’t slow the PC down and I like Evgeny Kaspersky as a person.
He was pretty outspoken about freedom until his son got kidnapped. Poor guy.
I found Kaspersky when I was helping a friend with his PC (his wife couldn’t resist clickbait) and Kaspersky was the first to ID and quarantine the worm.
Damn it! How did I become the responsible party for gathering people for a friend’s divorce?
Wait, what?
I am assuming this means his friend asked him to find a bunch of hookers for an orgy leading to a divorce. And I will not be reading replies so I can keep believing that.
Ignoring Jarflax, (points and laughs at the Kentuckian). It’s a friend of mine from high school days, who I officiated the wedding for, and his wife is now divorcing him. I’ve become responsible for gathering all of those I can from 10-20 years back for a night out.
To me the more annoying part is trying to get in touch with people who cut me off years ago.
Saying “no” isn’t an option?
I’ve already been tagged, and again, I officiated the wedding. The night out doesn’t bother me in the least. It’s more that instead of him reaching out, it’s become my responsibility.
Nothing you’ve stated explains why you should be the one to do any organizing or reaching out, but if you’re cool with it, have fun.
I couldn’t provide more information without a good chance of doxxing myself. I can deal with this,
Please refresh my alleged memory – was this the ordaining body?
Nope. I’m an Apathetic Agnostic. I do have the paperwork from Ohio sitting on my basement bar to warn people that if you make a bad decision, it may be permanent.
::gasps:: I may have found a new spiritual home!
Again, the paperwork is sitting on my bar,
You could easily join my church and then schism. My sister still doesn’t understand why I would marry people while thinking getting married is a bad idea.
Applications for memberhip[sic] and ordination are no longer available.
Boo.
The typo nicely underscores the ‘apathetic’ aspect of the sect.
“….gathering people for a friend’s divorce”
People have divorce paties nowadays?
Not really a divorce party, it’s a guy who wants to reach back 15-20 years to what it was like when we were younger. He no longer has to worry about her thoughts on the matter, so it’ll be a night of drinking and probably going the hooligan route.
Um. Beer.
Beer? Really? That’ll be the chaser to the whiskey.
There’s history for me here…
As I see. You’re screwed. And not in a good way. I suggest keeping a glass close at hand and having a driver.
Oh, I’m not planning on driving for this. I’m trying to get the divorce to at least chose the region, so I know if I need to get a nearby hotel room, or if I can get an Uber/Lyft home.
Now, this is my friend who worked with me to make Irish Coffees with JBM coffee and Middleton as the whiskey.
Do I have to put my keys in a bowl?
Considering it’s going to pretty much by guys hanging out… only if you want to.
So a new single woman in the world? Pics?
The wife is wider then me, if you prefer the John sized girls, make your attempt. I’ll stand by my friend who was a father to those kids for the past decade.
So Sanders wins Nevada. Does this mean another 4 years of Trump?
I think he could beat Trump, but probably will not.
I think that there are a lot of Democrats who wouldn’t vote for Bernie. And might even vote for Trump
And might even vote for Trump
A lot of Dems already have.
I have an aunt and uncle who are pretty die hard DFL-ers (strongly pro-union) who won’t be voting for Bern. Of course when we talked last week just after the debate they were both shaking their heads about who on that stage they could vote for.
They won’t vote for Trump, but they won’t for the Bern either.
I know intelligent people who have serious TDS who would vote for a fence post over Ttump as well as intelligent people who buy into Bernie’s shtick hook line and sinker. Granted the latter are 60’s era old hippies but fuck me if it baffles me their enthusiasm for the Bern. I find it scary.
TheBern! will get crushed in the debates. He is not “deer-in-the-headlights” like Warren when confronted, but he is easily flustered.
Was Trump good in debates? I thought he was unbelievably bad. I doubt anyone cares about them. Bernie will stay on his one stupid message. I’m still not clear why we even have debates. Nothing is ever even debated in them.
I’m inclined to think that anyone convinced by the “debates” probably shouldn’t vote.
Oh gawd! Don’t bring that up. I was going through trump audio today for the cartoon, and he spent 15 minutes talking about how great he was in the debates. That 15 minutes was listening at 1.75x.
I thought he did poorly in the first one and got better by the second and third in the general… And he got jabs at Republicans in the primaries before winning the nom. I even remember walking into the room when my dad (who was on the Trump train in the primaries) was watching a primary debate when Trump took a stab at Paul and I rolled my eyes because what was stated was not an argument against what Paul had said. My point is in line with Nothing is ever even debated in them. It is not about the substance. It is about the optics. And the Troll in Chief will frazzle the hell out of TheBern!.
Televised debates and the subsequent mass media control of our election process has been an unalloyed evil.
Lol, wut? ^Russian bot ^
To be fair, the newspapers controlled the election process for 100 years before Kennedy sweated less than Nixon.
But at least with newspapers, text was the medium, so there was still something to be said for “ideas”. Now it is completely visual. As Trump puts it, you just need to look “straight from central casting”. It doesn’t matter what you say. People may think they are attracted to a candidate based on their platform, but when you scratch the surface, it is much more about telling a “story” these days.
My worry is that Trump and everyone else will underestimate Bernie and he might be able to pull an upset.
Of course, all this supposes that the DNC won’t cheat Bernie out of the nomination somehow.
Why would you think that?
?
Bern is going to demand that FB and Twitter shut down the accounts of any non-US citizens who try to interfere by saying stuff like “I sure hope the US elects Bernie over Trump”?
Best case scenario. Gridlock.
If Special K keeps dropping, she might finish behind Tom Steyer. If that happens (and combined with Ilhan Omar’s twittering that her Somali accuser is part of a zionist plot) this will be an even better week than Acquittal Week.
A clown held the door for me today, and I thought “what a nice jester!”
Ba-dump CHHHHHH!!!
It wasn’t a professional courtesy?
Ha!
I saw a guy I know named Stevie A. give Honey BooBoo his seat on a bus, and I thought “That’s so sweet”
We have been binge-watching “The Good Wife” and an episode starring Kyle MacLachlan is named “Old Spice”
I took a wrong turn on twitter and found this dog video… of sorts
https://twitter.com/VideosFolder/status/1220441550498533377?s=20
There is a reason people like cat videos. Though I imagine a cat video in China might go the same way…
Fake news!
1) that isn’t authentic Korean folk music playing in the background
2) My wife slices the green onions for bosintang. That video has the fake cook just throwing whole ones in
LOL
In Libertopia do we get to eat dog?
Discuss.
Yes. Just not mine. And I’ll judge the shit out of you, while acknowledging it’s not rational.
ditto
Only if it was killed in a dog fight or bear baiting.
That’s close to how meat was viewed in many Bronze Age cultures. Your average Greek, Jew, Chinese, etc. only ate meat during a sacrifice.
I would think chicken meat would be, albeit not daily fare, something eaten my many on a more regular basis.
Of course you could eat a dog in Libertopia. There would be no rules against that sort of thing. And if someone tried to stop you, you could Sioux them.
Uffda. For those of you who didn’t grow up next to an Ojibwe reservation….
Sioux ate dogs, the Ojibwe didn’t and would call them “dog eaters” as an insult.
And you’re just a Chippewa-ff the old block?
lol. When I was a kid they were Chippewas. Then in Jr. high they all switched over to Ojibwe. Not sure exactly what prompted it.
Same here at a rez north of me. I assume it was due to the native traditional movement in the 70’s. ????
Even Wikipedia redirects “Chippewa” to “Ojibwe”.
Heh. Chippewa Street was turning into the hipster area in Buffalo when I left a couple decades ago. How gauche.
Needed a new pair of boots.
Who knows?
I’ve had days like that.
lol. My wife is in her mid 50’s now and will tell you only old people eat dog anymore. Well and maybe asshole guys do too. But that is it. She and her friends would never eat dog.
According to her, older people who were around during and after the war learned to eat anything. So they have to be given some leeway when it comes to their dietary habits.
But I liked your story.
Thanks!
I wrote that in 1994 for a creative writing class. The prof (who was the faculty editor of the student lit rag) loved it. Made the whole class read it as an example of a “shaggy dog story.”
Anyway, I turned it in my second semester of creative writing for a prof (Indian-dot, with a thick accent, whose primary format was poetry) who HATED me (although I never did find out why) and he ripped me to shreds in front of the class. “This has no point! It has no purpose! It has no meaning!”
Me: “It’s a shaggy dog story.”
Him: “I have never heard of such a thing!”
I let him rant on about my story and after class, I was walking down the hall and he yelled at me. “MAIDENNAME! MAIDENNAME!” He only ever called me by my maiden name, but he called everyone else by their given name or put Mr./Ms. in front of their surnames.
I turned around and said, “What.”
He nattered on about something. I interrupted him and said, “Look. I know how to write. You know it. I know it. You just don’t like WHAT I write. My dad just died. I have to get to work. I’m graduating next month. All I want is a B out of this class and you won’t see me again.”
I didn’t go back to class.
I got a B.
I was confused for a moment, then I realized the dialog containing “I’m graduating in a month” was yours.
Shaggy dog story- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJN9mBRX3uo
That’s some good writin’, Mo.
Thanks. 🙂
I used this as a monologue to audition for a part in a play.
Excellent – grabs you right away.
I worked night shift at a convenience store at possibly the lowest point in my life back in the day but the doughnut man bringing doughnuts was always good. That is a great story Mo!
Ah, I really liked that job. That was where I learned that there are 24 hours in a day.
People who have never worked graves don’t understand that.
Ah; the gloriously quiet night time!
The afternoon has gently passed me by…
Polite applause and secret plans to meet the author backstage after the press conference.
Heeeee!
That was great. Got a legitimate LOL from me. BTW, dog tastes a lot like goat…so I’m told.
Great story.
Thanks!
Awesome story!
Thanks! 😀
Is Pop Smoke Popcorn’s son?
Yes, and he just fathered a son, Jiffy Pop.
So is Soda Pop Bloomberg? Or the kid Corn Pop fathered with Klobuchar?
yes.
Ok, so I’m half drunk. And Banjos is tElling me “I don’t get the attraction” to salsa music. I’m fucking confused, because salsa music is the most lively, danceable music in the world.
Whatever, my wife is intelligent but she has her blond spots. Anyway, party on, friends.
but she has her blond spots
Dude. I respect Banjos but… Nah, I’m just going to hint that there are jokes to be made and sit back.
So many, many jokes.
*snort*
salsa is trashy, but it is easy to dance to.
You called?
I’m not having any slasa that’s been in a trash can.
You may be half drunk, but if she’s saying that, she’s full on high.
On crack.
We only like the extra mild salsa up here in Minnesoda.
If this doesn’t make you want to dance, I don’t know what would.

Duck and cover. Duck and cover.q
but she has her blond spots
I am going to assume this is intentional as it works without any added jokes.
Welp, o have the luxury of the edit function, but I won’t use it. I meant to say “blind”.
o/I.
Goddammit.
I knew what you intended, Sloop, as I am certain others were/are.
It seems to me that you are among your “friendlies” here.
I recommend that you (and other posters here on the Glibterarian website) concern yourselves less with these types of “misprints”.
Dude, that’s what we DO! 😀
Hey, don’t corrupt him! Charles is our one civilized poster. We need one gentleman to keep us from complete chaos!
That’s true. Charles is quite suave.
suave, you say?
Guilty pleasure.
?
Sure it’s only half drunk?
I’m 3/4 drunk now.
You can do it!
Meh… it can be lively and danceable without being “attractive”. I listen to lots of danceable music that I wouldn’t subject most people to either.
It’s his heat. His Guatamalan-ness
Ugh, speaking of not attractive….
I get the attraction to dancing to Salsa, but to sit around an listen to it? No.
I wasn’t sitting around. I was breaking a sweat.
By yourself?
Try the tango.
…or Cash.
+1 car-wash scene
(or was that Tuner & Hooch?)
Possibly Starsky and Hutch.
(Did you know Starsky is Mo’s maiden name?)
Well shit. There was supposed to be a link attached to that Cash.
I actually prefer mambo, but I must be out walking long after dark or cleaning my kitchen in the middle of the night so no one catches me dancing.
This is my mambo jam but, really, only because I used to watch a lot of Adult Swim (that’s a great remix).
More mambo for you! Can’t verify if it’s authentic, but it’s early Manhattan Transfer, so what the hell!
She’s 100% correct.
What about this?
I just saw that baracks Twitter bio has him listed as president. uh dude, hate to tell you but you’re not president anymore.
once president always president.
Once and future president?
Yeah, but it starts to feel a little like those people who have PhDs in something non-medical and insist on being referred to as “doctor”.
You mean Germans?
Yep. Knew a Geophysicist who insisted he be called DR. He was an insufferable German.
We refer to those people as “assholes”.
Unless you’re going to raise your hand when a stewardess asks “is there a doctor on the plane?”, it’s wildly pretentious to call yourself “Doctor” outside of a professional setting (conference/publication/etc.)
(I’ll make an exception if he wants to switch his handle to “Doctor Heroic Mulatto”. Even better, let’s go German – “Herr Professor Doctor Heroic Mulatto” )
The university I taught at in Thailand was a joint Thai-German institution. And an engineering school at that. I knew a lot of Herr Professor Doctor Engineer Johann Schmidts.
Yes, but did you know any John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidts?
Sadly, no.
My uncle-in-law tells my wife at least once a year, quote, “I’ll call you ‘doctor’ as soon as you successfully perform a heart transplant.” She’s never asked to be called that, but there’s a decades-long tradition of ball-busting in her family.
Transplant surgeons are a narrow speciality. There are a lot of real doctors who’ll never crack your ribcage open.
Fun Fact, Surgeons used to not be called doctor because they learned in an apprentice system as opposed to physicians who learned from schools. They merged somewhere on either side of 1900.
Yeah, he’s either being deliberately obtuse or just trying to cram the joke through.
I didn’t know that about surgeons. I suppose it makes sense, in a way. You can study as much as you want but at a certain point I’d think you’d have to actually practice surgery to develop the skill.
Before that, they also gave haircuts
Originally surgeons were barbers. The qualifications were having sharp blades. Reading Patrick O’Brien is an eye opener about medicine in the Napoleonic era.
In fact, in the UK, Surgeons are called “Mr.” as a point of honor.
😛
LOl, yeah beat me to it
They
merged somewhere on either side of 1900got taken over by the AMA. FTFY. No offense meant to our docs here, but here is a wonderful little blog post by someone who understands what went wrong in medical care was exactly when doctors became “professionals” – i.e. academic medicine took over what had been a distinctly pragmatic, empirical profession. When the AMA got its monopoly on medical education, they immediately expanded more schools! No, Just kidding, haha, they closed schools. Their stated goals were to limit the number of doctors to drive up the wages of their members. Lew Rockwell covered this pretty well.I distinguish between insisting on being called Dr. in social interactions, introducing yourself as Dr., and asking that you be introduced as Dr. in a public speaking engagement.
Insisting on being called Dr in social situations makes you a douche.
Introducing yourself as Dr is ok if 1. it has a bearing (ie. a job interview or as preface to entering a discussion in your field of expertise) or 2. You earned the doctorate within the prior 12 months. You get a year of bragging.
Not giving someone their Title in a public speaking intro is discourteous.
For sure, context makes a difference. I know two academic doctors and while both will include the PhD on business cards and email signatures neither would dream of introducing themselves as doctors. Mme. Naptown teaches and just introduces herself as her full name.
To play devil’s advocate, to get my pre-nominal initials, I had to advance knowledge by discovering something that no one else had found before. Now, with the notable exception of Derptologist, what I found has little impact on your daily lives, but I’m proud that I contributed in a small way to a better understanding of how adults acquire proficiency in a second language. On the other hand, to get an MD, you don’t have to do any research, you just have to acquire a set of skills that make you a marketable as a glorified biological mechanic. If I have to call my physician “Doctor” at a party because he has a professional degree, then he has to call his malpractice lawyer “Doctor” too.
Any lawyer who doesn’t correct someone who calls them Dr. is a pompous ass. You earned your Doctorate, as you say you have to advance knowledge and then defend that advance. A JD is exactlythe same degree that was previously called an LLB. It is a Baccalaureate degree, regardless of the requirement to have a prior Baccalaureate degree to get into law school. It lacks every aspect of a true doctorate. It is not an advanced degree over an earlier degree in the subject. No thesis or research occurs. And it is a 3 year degree. To my mind my JD is on roughly the same level as my BAs. I get into this fight with attorneys occassionally.
My grandfather got into law school by just taking a test. I think that was in the 50s or 60s. I’m not sure.
I think California still allows you to sit for the bar exam after “reading” the law under the supervision of a lawyer.
I got my Ph.D from the Universal Life Church for about $35
From time to time, I demand someone calls me Doctor Cool.
LLCT?
One of the better parts of the “Trump won lol” supercuts on YouTube is that they always put in that clip of Obama on the late night show reading the Trump tweet
“Well, @realdonaldtrump, at least I will go down in history as a President”
*Drops phone, audience of lefty NYC assholes wildly applauds*
Little did they know.
What local goes to the taping of a TV show?
The ones with out of town guests.
The ones showing off how cool the city is to their visiting family/friends?
They can get their own damn tickets.
That’s a delicious moment, in retrospect.
Smarmy prick.
Ok. Ate too much, got drunk, wrote a script. Good day off. Time for a documentary.
I did 2 out of 3 of those things.

Yup! Just hasn’t seen the light of day for a while. I think it’s gonna work again though.
You know who else hasn’t see the Light of Day ?
I expected nothing else.
I was hoping for Fastball.
I will show you the way.
I never knew that was the name of that song.
Show me the way?
Show you the way.
Be on your way.
Makin’ their way the only way they know how.
The way it is.
The way I wanna rock and roll
I have friends who went to a Fastball concert many years ago, and they were quite impressed.
However, hayeksplosives, I did not find a song on Youtube that related to your post.
Do you mind providing a link?
“Harsh Light of Day” was the album that had, among others, The Way, Vampires (love that oddball), and You’re an Ocean.
I’ll paste You’re an Ocean, cuz it’s peppy and wise and it makes me smile.

I have achieved antler repair nirvana.

“Antler Repair Nirvana”
A taxidermists cover band, that does Kurt Cobain songs.
Sounds legit—sorta.
Excellent work!
Thank you! When it’s all hung up next to my zebra skin, I’ll share a pic.
Real zebra?
Yup. Mom and Dad got it at an army thrift store from a dude who’d been stationed who knows where?
I have it on the wall to protect it from feet.
Stupendous work. Also, now I want to listen to these guys.
Thrash metal, eh?
I went to a brewery in Minnesota with a “Norse” theme, antlers everywhere, thrash metal constantly playing. (Good beer and mead though.)
They had a sign in the window saying it was a place of religious and ethnic tolerance, and intolerance wouldn’t be tolerated. Or words to that effect—not something usually needed in a suburban bar. I took it as an indication that something had come up before.
Anyway, as I passed under the entry hall antler chandelier on my way out, I looked straight up at it instead of the usual side perspective. It was four antlers arranged perfectly as a swastika.
These guys kinda knew the nerdy audience they wanted to attract, but apparently got more than they bargained for somewhere along the way.
The Tetraskelion or Fylfot cross was a Norse (and many other cultures as well) symbol long before Hitler decided to coopt it.
White supremacist confirmed.
White Supremacy!
Yes, I am very aware of that. The Asea power plant at Vattenfall, Sweden still has every century old brass brush engraved with a Norse swastika. I got to see it in my post grad work and found it an interesting bit of history.
They were on a lot of the runestones you pass while hiking too. No biggie there in Scandahoovia.
Problem is, idiot neonazi punks who want to form a club and feel cool flock to that stuff like moths and ruin it for real historians and ethnic descendants.
By the way, if you look at 1910s postcards, the ones wishing luck usually featured shamrocks, horse shoes, kewpie dolls, piglets, and swastikas.
My Dad has a and old leather bound set of Kipling with the Hindu Swastika embossed on the bindings. I’m sure today that would be taken as confirmation that he was a Nazi.
Well, technically *pushes glasses up along bridge of nose* they’re more blackened death metal. If you like classifying things, metal is the genre for you. There is such a thing as Viking metal, which is embarrassing, but there’s a good chance you’ll find lots of antlers and steins and so forth there. There’s overlap with “glory metal”, which nobody admits listening to.
I have much to learn.
Where does Yngvie Malmsteen belong on the spectrum? And is it adjusted for decade?
Are you a Bloggess fan? She’s big into taxidermy.
She’s also quite funny.
Bookmarked!
Thanks.
Horrifying.
“The Rockport Volunteer Fire Department said firefighters were dispatched to Paradise Lagoons RV park…”
Too soon for a lagoon joke ?
Damn.
Not at all what I expected from blindly clicking on one of your links.
Would it help if I told you that this is my new fetish?
I, uhh… Huh. Maybe?
“Horrifying.”
HM, If you find something horrifying….
Let us simply agree that I will trust you in this regard.
Duly noted.
That really is awful. My experience with septic tanks begins and ends at knowing that they’re a thing, so forgive me, but aren’t they typically sealed and buried? How would you fall into one?
They break down over time – the need to be replaced after so many years/decades and can collapse, like a hellish sinkhole.
I have a septic. I’m guessing some idiot left the access cover open after pumping the sludge out.
There’s usually an access for cleaning. And they are left open only during cleaning. I couldn’t even read the article, but I’m certain some moron is a fucking idiot fuck face for this to happen.
They have access ports, because they need to be pumped out every few years (they are designed such that the liquid is purified ny passing through a leach field, but the solids are retained in the tank. The port is usually covered by a concrete slab or metal plate, but they are not affixed and I can see one getting moved accidentally in a trailer park
Akshully…in a healthy septic tank the solids will be consumed by the bacteria living in it. If the tank isn’t too small for the family making deposits in it, and its health isn’t being affected by too much soap, or meth, or used condoms; in theory it should never need pumping.
Good point – I’m thinking of the residential septic systems I grew up with, where the tank was usually fully buried; if things went bad they’d dig up your hard to find it, open it and pump it out. They would indeed collapse if you let it go too far (I still sometimes see the the depression in the yard of a place with a tank that needs attention).
Place like a trailer park probably has a dedicated access hatch.
Awful.
The buried ones you’d find in the ‘burbs are the only ones I’ve ever been around, and the general idea seems to be that if you can tell you’re near a septic tank it’s not working properly.
The idea is to pump it out before it gets too bad, no more than about 1/3 full. The pump companies want to do it every couple of years and put in an access extension if the cover is buried so it’s easier to get to. Since it’s just the wife and me and a 1000gal tank, every ten years is good enough. Had it done a couple months ago and only 25% full.
More than a 1/3 full of the semi solid sludge layer and the baffles and drainfield can get clogged.
https://www.aero-stream.com/septic-riser-kits.html
Risers so you don’t have to dig every time to get access into the tank. It kinda sucks to dig it out and pull the concrete plug off of it.
What I’m hearing is, you need more fiber in your diet.
I know it’ll get me kicked out of the rugged individualist libertarian club, but being on a sewer system is quite nice. Gas lines, too.
Sure, but the nearest municipal sewer is about 8 miles away. Gonna need to flush more than twice.
We doing a late night links this evening? Inquiring drunks want to know.

[Sanders said] his coalition would “sweep this country.”
You know who else said they’d “sweep this country”?
Stanley Steamer?
Say, is he from Cleveland by chance?
Swiffer?
I was just wanting to know were to post a live review of Wider vs Fury.
I’m pretty sure Trump will win versus Sanders in that bout.
I was watching some TV today about that fight. Jesus, Wilder is deadly.
He is. And I predict we’ll knock out Fury this time. However, Fury has a shot because he’s the better technical fighter and more disciplined. Wilder gets sloppy with his stance and hands and he will give away punches to Fury. It’s gonna be fun.
I have not pay per view so I will have to wait for the replays.
TH, please do let loose with the review/updates–whatever suits you.
That is the (my) plan, TH–I submitted earlier this week.
Submitted what? Sorry, I’m distracted.
My post for tonight. It’s showing to be scheduled in…what, 15 minutes?
Oh, I get now.
Derp,
*it
Sorry, the man cave is getting rowdy.
No, no–carry on!
I found this funnier than I should have. I am not a good person sometimes.

The dudes kind of a goober, and I don’t know how much credence to give his opinions, but I do love how he collects all kinds of videos of violent encounters.
I subscribe to his channel. I don’t watch often, but, I think he’s pretty solid.
I took the Kids to dinner tonight, good fun was had by all, i met a Brown eyed Girl, who asked what I did, she agreed, and wants to play, too bad she’s 24 years old,
aand I show up and everyone goes home, ahh well.
I’m here! Getting ready for Fight Night!
Smoked some diamond earlier, yowza!
TH, I’m out and can’t watch the fight. You know a good live round by round site?
Not off the top of my head. Sorry man. I’ll do my best to give an honest review each round. Brief, but honest.
Drunk, high, but honest.
This could get ugly. Ha!
Yu, please make sure to take your ass over to the late night thread when it commences.
I will give it my level best to stay conscious as well!
Excellent!
I am happy to hear it! And 24 is adult.
too bad she’s 24 years old
I fail to see the issue.
TFW you’re totally phoning it in and somebody thinks you’re awesome. 0_0
It’s a good feeling. I get that now and then (see, also, the aforementioned nearly 60,000 hours I have on the job – even phoning it in I can still be pretty good).
I dunno. I feel kinda guilty because to me, it’s like, totally low effort. I always wonder if I’m overdoing everything all the time or if the others around me are just that awful that phoning it in looks awesome.
I always hate it when the thing that takes the least effort garners the most praise – and that’s the thing that always get recognized. While the stuff where I had to actually exert effort and had adversity with gets no mention.
Yes, that bugs me too.
Also: “Why are you charging so much for this? It’s simple!”
Me: “I’m sure you’ll be able to do it. Good luck!”
Does this count as Old Guy Music?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqW2x1knqq0
I retorted with this to one of the old man’s Old Guy music links. I think it qualifies.
Well, that explains why there’s always a puddle of butter left on the plate afterwards…
CPRM, you gonna make the joke?
Stuff it.
Then bake it.
