    Because, why not?

    *shrugs*

  2. UnCivilServant

I’m rather surprised that I can’t tell the difference between the model painted with “Black Templar” over “Basilicanum Gray” versus the one painted with “Basilicanum Gray” over “Black Templar” It’s paint, order of operations should matter.

    • Not Another Naked Digby

So, is that then a paint issue, or, an eye issue?

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        it’s called Black,
        Ebony
        Midnight Black
        Dark Black
        Bla
        Bla
        Bla
        you know I know…

      • UnCivilServant

Thing is, you can easily tell the difference when either one is independantly used.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

I do get that, and it sucks……

      • Yusef drives a Kia

Hey! we are Modeling here, none of your Fancy light Miracles please!
        /Much love

      • Mojeaux

Hey, us old people gotta be able to see our tiny hobbies, dude. I almost cried the day I had to get clip-on magnifying specs for my embroidery.

      • UnCivilServant

If I can’t tell them apart under normal lighting, no one is going to call me out on the difference.

    • UnCivilServant

I could have saved myself the trouble of re-running the color test if I’d just looked up The last test results it has the order of operations listed in the description.

      • DenverJ

You know, I was gonna comment, but I’ve changed what I’m gonna say. With your understanding of paint and colors, you can always fall back on autobody.

    • Juan-Baptiste Emmanuel Seguin

Dont lather it on, you’re making them look like whores!

  3. Aloysious

Work is eerily quiet tonight. Maybe everybody has turned into coronazombies.

    • UnCivilServant

I’ve started a story with viral zombies. The format is a riff off of the epistilory format, but with a guy making internet videos. So sometimes it’s him talking to camera, and sometimes it’s bodycam footage (so there can be fight scenes)

      • Aloysious

Have you seen the Bill Murrey zombie movie that came out last year? The Dead Don’t Stay Dead, or whatever. Mildly amusing, but didn’t break any new ground.

      • UnCivilServant

I stopped paying any attention to movies. Haven’t been to a theater since 2008, haven’t watched any recently released films since then, only older stock.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        Yep

      • Rhywun

The only thing that catches my attention is the occasional genre piece like “Arrival” or “Interstellar”. You’d think I would have heard of a Bill Murray zombie movie. Nope.

      • Aloysious

Came out last year. It might produce a chuckle or possibly a chortle.

      • Rhywun

I could use one or two of those.

      • DenverJ

Didn’t they kill Bill Murray in Zombieland?

      • Tres Cool

Here’s my question about zombies. What mitochondrial functions are still in place that allows them energy to move about? With little energy input.
Also, since the amygdala handles “reptilian” base functions, with their brains ruined- who controls what ?

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        Ozy knows…
        Sup Tres!

      • westernsloper

You might be overthinking the whole concept. Zombies require faith. It is mentioned in Hebrews. 1:11 of 11:1 I can’t remember.

      • Shirley Knott

They partied in Jerusalem for the resurrection.

      • UnCivilServant

Only the living ones need energy. After they die, postmortem abulation takes over.

      • Aloysious

Tres… it’s the moon. Clearly, phlogistonic emissions from a full moon empower electrical activity in squishy grey matter.

        It makes perfect sense.

    • LJW

Shhhh you don’t want to get that one guy that’s at every gun range excited.

  4. Urthona

hey did you guys hear about this coronavirus shit?

      • straffinrun

Me neither. I live under a rock below a stone covered with a boulder.

    • Not Another Naked Digby

      Like…Montezuma’s Revenge from beer??

    • J. Frank Parnell

No… How much shit is there? Should I stock up on toilet paper?

    • Yusef drives a Kia

I have heard of Corona Shit, not a pleasant experience,

  5. Yusef drives a Kia

I’m going to do a video shoot tomorrow, it’s my first real, big project, I figure 8 hours of video for a 2:30 minute song. I have a script and storyboard written down, the Song is Great, and deserves some good video, wish me luck either way,

      • Yusef drives a Kia

Thanks, in a way it’s like a Diorama, I need to research the song, find the story, and build from there, You will see the results,

  6. Plinker762

    It’s not late night yet.

    • Not Another Naked Digby

But, it is the dark night of the soul.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        Dark thirty……………
        OOGA BOOGA………………

    • westernsloper

Yes it is. If I had to work tomorrow I would be asleep by now.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        You have work? Lucky Guy…

      • Plinker762

I have work tomorrow. Trying to keep my two employees working as long as possible. I may have to find a smaller shop to rent.

      • westernsloper

Lucky? Back when I got this job no it was not luck at all. It just took some effort combined with the desperation of “I’ll take what I can get”. Given current circumstances now, ya, I am probably lucky to have this job. My life fell apart before too Bob. My income went from six figures to nothing over a few months. Ya know what I did? I tried a few things out. Tried to work for myself and it didn’t work. I couldn’t find any clients. I tried the truck driving thing, didn’t work out because that is the most boring thing I have ever done, then when I was getting close to being in trouble and couldn’t pay my bills you know what I did? I went and found a god damned job that was open. As a fucking janitor. Was it what I wanted to do? Not even close. Was I over qualified? Ya. Did I try to be the best god damned janitor I could be? You’re damn right I did. Did everyone at the place I work at ask why I was a janitor because they knew I was not the janitor type? Yes. Could I pay my own bills? Ya. A year and a half later after making a bit of effort to find a job just to pay my bills and keep the electricity on I am the supervisor of all the maintenance guys who used to ask me why I took a job as a janitor. Is that luck? Or was that effort and hard work? No I am not making what I used to make and most likely never will again in my life but I can pay my bills. Life goes on.

      • straffinrun

        A picture from yesterday

        North Idaho

      • westernsloper

        Excellent!

      • dbleagle

Yikes. I went sailing yesterday looking for whales. We got lucky and encountered a cow with a calf and then later 2-3 bulls. When they noticed us they put on a bit of a show with spy hopping once and a couple of jumps and splashes. Even a couple of hundred yards away those jumps are impressive. We were safety conscious and left the rum home for G&T’s.

While we were out we decided on a great social distancing strategy. Take a couple of days off of work and sail to Molokai, Lanai and Maui. Four days or so staying dozens of miles from the diseased.

        Still daylight here.

Oh yeah last night I went out and found the latest comet. Still not much to see but it may turn into a eye visible event next month.

      • westernsloper

While we were out we decided on a great social distancing strategy. Take a couple of days off of work and sail to Molokai, Lanai and Maui. Four days or so staying dozens of miles from the diseased.

        Excellent idea!!!!

      • one true athena

oh man, now I’m really sad. We were supposed to be in Maui for a week, starting today. For all the times I’ve been to Hawaii, I’ve never seen whales, so I was hoping this trip I’d finally get to see some. Bummer.

      • westernsloper

The last time I was there I missed a picture of a whale fluke in the air right behind my sis and bro in law by like a second of snapping the picture. We caught no tuna or mahi that day but lots of whales.

      • dbleagle

Well the governor announced yesterday he was killing the economy of the state by enacting a 14 day quarantine for any non Hawaii resident entering the island starting Mar 26th until a date TBD.

The head of Honolulu County just off TV after saying “Hold my beer.” by announcing starting the 24th until April 30th he was closing all non essential business and ordering people to stay home.

This is exactly what panic looks like. I spent a career trying to induce panic into my enemies since it made them easier to kill. These stupid MF’s just dropped a primed grenade into their own foxhole to kill the economy.

The worst part. I will bet a dollar to a donut that each union public employee will every dime of money they would have brought home from working. The private industry employees will hear “Fuck you. pay me.” from higher taxes.

If I read this sort of thing one more time I am going to lose it. The pandemic hasn’t done shit to the economy. Government fucked the economy.

Good night glibs. I have work in the morning… so I won’t be going anywhere.

  8. Gender Traitor

I was casting about for a comfort read on the local library’s website, thinking I might reread Huckleberry Finn (which would be my nominee for The Great American Novel.) Just past HF I found It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis.

a cautionary tale about the fragility of democracy, an alarming, eerily timeless look at how fascism could take hold in America.

    I borrowed & downloaded it.

But I also borrowed & downloaded Huck Finn in case the other is too close to the current news cycle for comfort.

    • Not Another Naked Digby

      “fragility of democracy”

      ?

/not a comment on the book, but of the reviewer

      • Heroic Mulatto

Even the Greeks realized democracies were fragile. It doesn’t take much to have them devolve into oligarchy.

      • Not Another Naked Digby

No argument from me–I consider that to be a phrase that gets thrown around in the US by people who simply don’t like a sitting President, and not due to any authentic (my judgment) discourse on the US political system.

    • Mojeaux

Let’s chat about Elmer Gantry, which was thoroughly enjoyable BUT…it had no resolution. Like, none. Elmer didn’t learn anything. The book ends with someone bailing him out of YET ANOTHER scrape and…he keeps doing what he’s doing.

That moves it from the realm of a story with a message(wink) to a moralizing screed.

Screed’s too harsh, but you get me?

    • Tres Cool

      Oh G_d:

      ” Kevin asked:
Advice needed – seems very topical given recent election of DJT. Downloaded kindle version, and read the first 10 pages. A real struggle so far. I’m guessing a bunch of witty references that only 1936 readers would really get. So my question – is it worth continuing and reading in full? Given that the start has put me off. ”

“that only 1936 readers would get” ?

Oh, Kevin-honey. You need more gum

So my refrigerator died and now I’m looking for a replacement. The new ones look a lot cheaper than my old one and I’m not sure which reviews to believe.

    • Yusef drives a Kia

      Samsung/LG

    • DenverJ

“I’m not sure which reviews to believe.”
Why, the ones that agree with your preheld assumptions, of course.

      • Plinker762

        An elegant solution

      • Not Another Naked Digby

Pay attention to the gripes and one star reviews (or, whatever system is at play). See if the complaints are one-offs, centered on the sales end of things, or, if there’s an underlying theme. Also, watch out for positives that are only based on newly-purchased items. “Had it a week, and everything seems great!” is probably not worth a damn in appliances.

Plus, there’s always trusted personal experience–if Yusef has the kind of experience I think he has, listen to him.

    • one true athena

The newish refrig that came with our house is a Frigidaire. The ice dispenser is a piece of crap – ice either gets stuck (sometimes leaving the flap open which is GREAT for the freezer) or about twenty pieces come out at once. I have no idea what’s wrong with the design, because it seems like it’s the same screw feeder system as my previous refrig but for that, I can’t recommend it. It’s so annoying.

      • Plinker762

My Kenmore lasted 28 years. I don’t expect a new one to last that long.

I’m not a big fan of ice makers because they seem to add extra stuff to fail. I’ve seen many improved designs that didn’t work as well as the original.

      • SUPREME OVERLORD trshmnstr

There’s usually a chute at the very end. Sometimes it gets clogged up with cubes. Then they all come out at once. Ask me how I know. ?

My Whirlpool from Costco is complete garbage and I hate it. The only reason I haven’t gotten rid of it is that I’m procrastinating on pulling the trigger on a full kitchen remodel – which should happen any day now since the economy is doing great and I can easily afford that sort of thing OHWAITWHUTFUCK!!!

      • Not Another Naked Digby

What model, J? I want to be sure to avoid it, if it’s trash.

      • Plinker762

Looked at Whirlpool and Frigidaire units earlier today and didn’t get a warm fuzzy. Samsungs and LGs have good reviews but LGs are backorder so looks like Samsung.

      • Rhywun

I have an 8-year-old Whirlpool. Bare-bones but still humming along.

Will find out tomorrow if the state of Virginia will just say ‘fuck it’, throw up their hands and close schools through the end of the school year. If they do, I will be severely tempted to go on the road. The travel trailer is ready to go, and I’m fortunate that my company is doing quite well in the midst of a nationwide panic and I already work from home full time. RV camping is pretty ideal for social distancing, and I think I might spend some of my spare hours sewing a few masks based on Joann’s patterns.

    • Gustave Lytton

Local cities here are starting to order shutdowns of RV campgrounds to stop escape tourism, along with already shut down state/federal campgrounds with group sites. I would expect that to spread.

      • Plinker762

They’ll have to gate all the Forest Service roads up here.

    • Yusef drives a Kia

I golfed with several kid from Cali, as soon as the shut down came, they left to Mom’s house in AZ, see how that works…..

    • LemonGrenade

Yes, already got a call from the state campground in WVa that we had booked for spring break. They’re closing all bath houses, and other common areas, and if you aren’t self-contained, your reservations will be canceled and refunded. We have a full bathroom and shower and had reserved a full hookup site, so we’re good for now. I feel bad for the folks I already am seeing boondocking at WalMart parking lots because the sites they had were closed. Our full summer, from mid-June through the beginning of August has already been booked, so I’m praying we get enough of a handle on the virus that I don’t have to change my plans. Reservations at Yellowstone were a bitch to arrange.

  12. Vacuous

Any tips for video compressing software. After I recorded my lecture for tomorrow, I noticed my videos are very large, as in hundreds of MB for a few minutes of video.

    • Yusef drives a Kia

Even Window Movie Maker will do that for you, I use it,and it’s free

      • DenverJ

I spent time just the other night trying to compress my GFs video, and all it would reduce it by was 1%. I’m guessing I would’ve had ti set up outlook for her gmail account for it to work properly, and fyck that

      • Vacuous

      • Rhywun

Yeah, I used to use it to rip DVDs but ISTR it does lots of things.

      • Shirley Knott

Yeah, it’s a good tool. I got a lot of use out of it just for transcoding mkv video files to mp4.
FWIW, I’ve found it a bit flaky on Win10 but rock solid in Linux. Given Win10, YMMV.

    • Sean

Do they have any vehicles not black or white?

      • UnCivilServant

Right there in the middle, that squashed van is blue.

      • Sean

Barely. On my screen it’s black with a slight hint of blue and that is only if I zoom in.

  14. Vacuous

My extended two-week spring break is over. I was able to put in 100 hours in two weeks. Now that I don’t need to spend 10 hours per week driving to campus, I should be able to put in more part-time hours until the end of the semester.

  15. straffinrun

Can’t help feeling we’re falling without a parachute. Makes it kind of hard to focus on what to make for dinner tomorrow.

Wondering how long the land of the free and the home of the brave is gonna put up with this.

On second thought…maybe I would take Hedy Hedley

Yes, that needs to be memed over and over.

  16. Not Another Naked Digby

So, I want to think that I understand the celebrity machine in Hollyowod juuust a smidge more after seeing this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2jDyostXAc

    Just a name: Tom Arnold.

    • Plinker762

Watched for a bit but can’t listen to someone ramble on like Tom.

      • Not Another Naked Digby

This is true–I waited for Fleccas to get some words in. He is very patient, but, you kinda have to be if you are going to give Arnold any attention.

But, the fact that he is a celebrity, regardless of who he married how he got there, tells me some interesting things about how that machine works. Or, doesn’t.

      • l0b0t

I now want nothing more than to see Tom Arnold smothered with a pillow. I can’t believe I sat through that whole spittle-flecked rant; it was like arguing with a toddler.

      • Not Another Naked Digby

Speaking of, what do you think will be his mode of death? VD? DUI accident? Heart attack? I mean, I guess ‘terminal stupidity’ in on the table, but, what form?

      • l0b0t

Falls off the wagon and goes on a coke bender until his heart explodes?

      • l0b0t

Or, picks a fight with an inebriated John Goodman at the Mardi Gras.

      • Not Another Naked Digby

        Interesting choices.

I like the first one better, as I wouldn’t wish that on John.

    good mornig glibbies.

Week 3 of working from home. The weather sucks. The corona is growing but who knows. It is fucking snowing. No fruit this year as I had suspected.

What is snow? i heard of frosty things falling from the sky, like that?

      • PieInTheSky

it is something that poisons apricot tree blooms

        Damn! I like Apricots!

    • Yusef drives a Kia

Seriously Pie, the austere Beauty of the Arizona Desert would blow your mind, and the Weather is nice right now OMWC is full of Shit

      • PieInTheSky

Honestly maybe but I generally don’t like flatland

      • dbleagle

Then you’ll love Arizona. There are very few spots in the entire state that you can’t see mountain ranges. Hell there is a ski resort above Tucson that you see Mexico from.

Remember all those John Ford westerns? Filmed in Arizona and Tucson.

Highest spot is above tree line at 12, 633 go to the moon feet.

Saguaro cactus and roadrunners? Arizona again.

AZ is one of the most scenic places on Earth.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

      • Plinker762

Mt Lemmon. I did some work up there.

      • Tejicano

I used to live just north of there out in the desert a few miles east of Sahuarita. Damn beautiful country

      • Tejicano

There actually is some flatland in Arizona but you REALLY have to know where to look for it – and most of that is just spillover from north/central New Mexico.

      • PieInTheSky

well when I read austere desert I assumed flatland, I don’t think there are Shara style dunes in the US. I am not sure what kind of desert is in Arizona though

      • Rhywun

        *meep, meep!*

      • westernsloper

There are dunes but way south. Or was that in CA. Don’t remember. We have dunes in CO and you can see real mountains from them. AZ is a beautiful place though. The one thing I will tell anyone to do, is float the Grand Canyon if you can. The bottom of that canyon on the CO river is a life changing experience. This is coming from someone who has had numerous outdoors life changing experiences.

      • dbleagle

First picture is in western AZ in the Sonora Desert. The sharp peak in the background is Kofa peak. The second picture is AZ again on the Colorado Plateau. It is on the Navajo Rez and is called Monument Valley. The prominent butte in the foreground is the “Left Mitton”.

      • Gustave Lytton

Monument Valley of course is where John Ford (and others) made a number of films.

      • westernsloper

      Now I’m really pissed.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

That sucks, I had dreams of a party, But I guess you Space guys aren’t critical, good Fortune anyway!

      • Tejicano

I was dreaming about what kinds of tall cans I could score on my way down. Dreaming of the road and being armed like a proper adult male. Building a few AK’s.

      • Not Another Naked Digby

Well, shit. Sorry to hear that, Te.

      • Tejicano

Yeah, I haven’t been back to the US for a year and a half. Unusual for me. I try to get some balance between being here and being there.

I had been planning this trip for months but as the panic in the US kept rising I wasn’t sure if it would happen.

      • Gustave Lytton

Maybe better. Japan is about to require a 14 day quarantine on arrival from the US, possibly an outright ban (wouldn’t affect you with a residency permit?).

  21. straffinrun

Back ribs on sale, but no BBQ sauce in any of the stores. Fuckin Japan. Would you think less of me if I used McD’s nugget sauce instead?

    • Yusef drives a Kia

      It’s American, go for it….

      • straffinrun

Got an idea for seasoning? It’s always substitution time when I try Western food.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

Garlic salt on one side, Ater reaching temp, Salt on the other, then let them cook inn the sauce for a while

    • Tejicano

What is this “sauce” of which you speak?

Dry rub is the one true path. It is known.

      • straffinrun

        Under 2 hours. Whaddaya got?

      • Tejicano

First, find a recipe on-line with ingredients you can find. I cheat and get them from the base commissary.

Second, after rubbing on the ingredients pressure cook for 20 minutes.

        Third, grill with charcoal/briquets/wood product.

      • straffinrun

Firing up the grill at our mansion isn’t really an option.

      • Tejicano

Dude. If we didn’t live on extreme ends of the city I would have you and your family over sometime(s) for a real BBQ on our rooftop. I’d love to plan that someday if feasible in any way for y’all.

Or at least let me bring you a care package from the base.

      • straffinrun

No kidding. It’s sad, but I get to break out the grill when we go camping.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

Gotta Go with what ya got bra…

      • straffinrun

And my first attempt at ribs. Thx, Yusef and TJ.

      • Tejicano

One problem – ribs take time to get right unless you have a pressure cooker to speed up the process. They simply won’t be fall-off-the-bone ready without one or the other.

    • Not Another Naked Digby

Don’t they use it on McRibs? I mean…ya gotta eat.

Ask for that Szechuan sauce–let ’em know you’re a Rick & Morty fan.

    • westernsloper

Ketchup, brown sugar, soy, garlic powder, onion powder, S&P, hot sauce, liquid smoke if you have it = BBQ sauce.

      • westernsloper

And vinegar, don’t forget the vinegar.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

So much time, so few ingredients

      • westernsloper

If those aren’t in the kitchen well, I have no advice.. That is a basic of the basicest bbq sauces. My personal fave starts with simmering down some Coke. The soda not the snorting off a hookers ass stuff.

      • straffinrun

That’s what I’m trying. Pressure is on.

      • westernsloper

        Good luck!

      • Rhywun

Minus ketchup and smoke that’s pretty much the chicken marinade I made today. Too bad I overcooked it.

      • Rhywun

        *the chicken

      • JD is Unemployed

I find ketchup (store bought) is sugary enough already without adding any extra.

Mine is bad in the morning (afternoon for day walkers) but clears up when I start moving about.

  23. Not Another Naked Digby

In keeping with my whinge about online movies and all that, I would like to suggest: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9561862/ on netflix, if you have the time. Most of the stories are under 15 minutes each, out of 18 episodes. Pretty good and diverse styles of animation and live action. I don’t think anyone given to trying it out will be disappointed.

      • UnCivilServant

      • Sean

Hrm…I think I meant just the city…No offense to NYC Glibs.

It’s early and my brain needs time to boot up.

  26. Suthenboy

I am too late for bbq advice. Damn.
If you like a sweet sauce try mixing some fruit preserves in your sauce. I use muscadine but grape would be a decent substitute. Apricot is damned good. Nearly any fruit would do…cherry and blackberry is good also.

Add other usual ingredients and be certain to add in some hot pepper flavor.

    • Suthenboy

I have also used kumquat marmalade.

      • Trigger Hippie

Kumquat Marmalade is what people call me in Tangier.

        Danka

      • Festus

        ; )

    • Suthenboy

Wife does a better job o fit than I do. I just consulted her.

      Jelly, jam or marmelade
      a bit of catsup
      hot sauce
      Worcestershire
      garlic

Also the meat/chicken is pre-rubbed with a cajun dry rub (hot)
The Jelly rub is slathered on the top side of the meat/leg quarters about five minutes before taking it off of the grill so that it turns to a glaze but doesn’t burn.

    • straffinrun

Went OK. Rubbed with brown sugar, garlic salt, pepper etc. Put on a cooking sheet, covered with foil and in the oven at 150C (300F) for about 2.5 hours. Wife found some BBQ sauce at an import store, so I slathered them and broiled for another 5 minutes. Tasted good, but the bottoms of the ribs were a bit burnt. The ribs were already cut and not in a rack. Maybe I should’ve turned them over after and hour?

      • Festus

Yep. And slathered the other side.

      • Suthenboy

Glad they were OK. I was scratching my head because I have no idea what ingredients are available there. Threw in the suggestion of the fruit preserves because not many people do that and I find the sweet/hot combo quite delicious. Might be worth a try.

      • straffinrun

It’s still baked pork at the end of the day. Kid won’t eat spicy food, but she loved the ribs. Next time I’ll throw in jam. Thanx.

  27. Festus

Ugh. Four inches of slushy goodness fell overnight. The drive home was an adventure because they retired the plows a week ago and decided to start sweeping the streets instead. Don’t these cuntes know where we live? That’s three times this winter that I’ve had to drive the speed limit at 3AM.

    • Festus

Good part was no traffic except for logging trucks going in the opposite direction. Those assholes are the worst.

      • Trigger Hippie

I fully expect my commute to be pretty much traffic free, yet taking the same or more time because of getting pulled over once or twice to see why I’m out and about during the apocalypse.

God, humanity is so disappointing me right now.

      • Suthenboy

I wonder if we are having that sort of thing here. Today: pharmacy -> grocery store -> home. The same trip I usually make when I get out. The sooner I can get it over with, the better.
Afterwards I will probably start day drinking and then a nap.

*A couple of young guys showed up yesterday afternoon and started shooting on an adjacent property. I couldn’t see them but I could tell what they were shooting: first a large caliber semi-auto pistol, then an AK, then a bolt large cartridge rifle then….I dunno what. A cannon? Whatever it was it was rattling my windows. They only fired it twice….whatever it was I guess one shot each was enough.
