Hey Spud! It looks like they’re closing down a bunch of Steak and Shakes. You’ll have to find a new place. It doesn’t have to be classy, but it does help.
Once again, I have brought you chicanery without having to give NYTimes a click!
Last week, the Bureau of Labor Statistics officially validated what we already knew: Just a few months into the COVID-19 crisis, America already has a Great Depression level of unemployment. But that’s not the same thing as saying that we’re in a depression. We won’t know whether that’s true until we see whether extremely high unemployment lasts for a long time, say a year or more.
Unfortunately, the Trump administration and its allies are doing all they can to make a full-scale depression more likely.
Before I get there, a word about that unemployment report. Notice that I didn’t say “the worst unemployment since the Great Depression”; I said “a Great Depression level,” a much stronger statement.
To understand why I said that, you need to read the report, not just look at the headline numbers. An unemployment rate of 14.7% is pretty horrific, but the bureau included a note indicating that technical difficulties probably caused this number to understate true unemployment by almost five percentage points.
If this is true, we currently have an unemployment rate around 20%, which would be worse than all but the worst two years of the Great Depression. The question now is how quickly we can recover.
Depends. We already went and fucked over the Zoomers, lets see if we can fuck over their kids!
If we could get the coronavirus under control, recovery could indeed be very rapid. True, recovery from the 2008 financial crisis took a long time, but this had a lot to do with problems that had accumulated during the housing bubble, notably an unprecedented level of household debt. There don’t seem to be comparable problems now.
…either that or it took ten years for the markets to adjust to the Fed’s supposedly consequence free monetary policy, banks bailed out on billions $$$ of forclosed mortgages, $10 billion dollars per month spent on the Iraq war, and overregulating 1/6 of the economy in the form of Obamacare.
But getting the virus under control doesn’t mean “flattening the curve,” which, by the way, we did — we managed to slow the spread of COVID-19 enough that our hospitals weren’t overwhelmed. It means crushing the curve: getting the number of infected Americans way down, then maintaining a high level of testing to quickly spot new cases, combined with contact tracing so that we can quarantine those who may have been exposed.
To get to that point, however, we would need, first, to maintain a rigorous regime of social distancing for however long it takes to reduce new infections to a low level. And then we would have to protect all Americans with the kind of testing and tracing that is already available to people who work directly for Donald Trump, but almost nobody else.
Crushing the curve isn’t easy, but it’s very possible. In fact, many other countries, from South Korea to New Zealand to, believe it or not, Greece have already done it.
Bringing the infection rate way down was a lot easier for countries that acted quickly to contain the coronavirus, while the rate was still low, rather than spending many weeks in denial. But even places with severe outbreaks can bring their numbers down if they stay the course. Consider New York City, the original epicenter of the U.S. pandemic, where the numbers of new daily cases and deaths are only a small fraction of what they were a few weeks ago.
But you do have to stay the course. And that’s what Trump and company don’t want to do.
They don’t want to move the goalposts? I might be an old bat, but you only have to remember back in march when they sold this flattening if the precious, precious curve as a way to keep our hospitals from being overrun by chinese zombies launching virus loaded ejaculate all over our faces, and choking us to death.
For a while it seemed as if the Trump administration was, at long last, willing to take COVID-19 seriously. In mid-March the administration introduced social distancing guidelines, although without actually imposing any federal regulations.
But lately all we hear from the White House is that we need to reopen the economy, even though we’re nowhere close to where we’d need to be to do so without risking a second wave of infections.
At the same time, the administration and its allies are apparently dead set against providing the financial aid that would let us sustain social distancing without extreme financial hardship. Extend enhanced unemployment benefits, which will expire July 31? “Over our dead bodies,” says Sen. Lindsey Graham. Aid to state and local governments, which have already laid off 1 million workers? That, says, Mitch McConnell, would be a “blue-state bailout.”
It only seems like this because NY is a “blue state” snd they seem to be the only one caught with their panties down.
As Andy Slavitt, who ran Medicare and Medicaid under Barack Obama, puts it, Trump is a quitter. Faced with the need to actually do his job and do what it takes to crush the pandemic, he just gave up.
How does Federalism work again? Letting the states figure their way out is not the same thing as giving up. Nit that I expect you or some Obama hack to know that.
And this retreat from responsibility won’t just kill thousands. It might also turn the COVID slump into a depression.
Here’s how it would work: Over the next few weeks, many red states abandon social distancing policies, while many individuals, taking their cues from Trump and Fox News, begin behaving irresponsibly. This leads, briefly, to some rise in employment.
But fairly soon it becomes clear that COVID-19 is spiraling out of control. People retreat back into their homes, whatever Trump and Republican governors may say.
So we’re back where we started in economic terms, and in worse shape than ever in epidemiological terms. As a result, the period of double-digit unemployment, which might have lasted only a few months, goes on and on.
In other words, Trump’s search for an easy way out, his lack of patience for the hard work of containing a pandemic, may be precisely what turns a severe but temporary slump into a full-blown depression.
A depression caused by statism. But you want to keep doing it because government dick soothes and massages your aging, statist prostate. This was not underlying weakness, market fluctuations, or even the markets adjusting to changing times it was the government forcing people to not leave their house and engage in commerce. First amendment rights were ignored, second amendment, fourth, fifth, and even sixth amendment rights have been infringed upon during these lockdowns. Then what hits ya? You think people showing up to protest in tactical gimp cosplay has nothing to do with self induced depression level unemployment, no no…its because people want a haircut or a bikini wax. Kind of makes you wonder if other people arent patrolling their neighborhoods because in part because they think their local government is going to try and fuck them some more.
You know what killed more people historically than viruses? Poverty.
You know what drives poverty? Not having a job.
You know whats driving people to not have a job? Shit stains like YOu!
but you knew that! Supposedly your some kind of economist when your head isnt shoved up your white ass.
A bad economist, and a bad epidemiologist.
Tell us Dr….where do we need to be?
I don’t need no doctor
The doctor makes you feel like you want to
The doctor will tell you what to do.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tbgv8PkO9eo
Come to think of it…aren’t we already into the nth wave of infections?
We’ve been moved to the nth hoop
Ill be in my bunk
I’ve met her, not nearly as hot in person.
Dude I was mid stroke and you killed it
Multitasking?
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel……………..shit.
Strange that an economist puts a hypothetical reduction in body count above all else. We already have doctora and epidemiologists to do that, and taking their advice without considering other things is what led to the current mess.
In these trying times, apparently thinking like an economist is a perishable skill.
What you did there, it has been seen.
@Banjos, sorry for your loss. Been there too many times.
I must have missed Banjos’s misfortune.
But you have my good wishes as well. You always post chipper morning messages to make the outrages described in the links more palatable.
Morning links had the story. Her father passed this morning.
Damn. Condolences Banjos.
I don’t know when or if she’ll see this, but my deepest condolences as well.
*checks morning links*
Ooof. I’m so sorry to read that, Banjos. My deepest condolences.
Paul Klugman.
Is he starting to look like a feral, diseased cat, or is it just me?
I’m pretty sure that’s Krugman’s NY Times file photo.
https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/may/14/dave-portnoy-barstool-founder-goes-viral-with-anti/
Good rant. Accurate too.
There’s risk. We’re Americans. You have to take risk.
There’s the problem. Too many people think they can have it all without risk, and this is nothing new. Swindlers from Ponzi to Madoff have always known this; offering something for nothing is a time-tested strategy.
“There are no great options, but you can’t just decimate the entire economy,” he continued.
That time when your superlative actually undercounts the damage.
Made me think of this
“ because government dick soothes and massages your aging, statist prostate”
LOL
I think W’s mom might be peeved because she makes good money for that.
“It looks like they’re closing down a bunch of Steak and Shakes.”
More will close if they don’t re-open colleges. Many of them are located at universities.
All my Steak and Shake adventures are from Illinois.
I don’t want to see them go under 🙁
This whole “rule by fiat” instead of “rule of law” is crushing the remaining would-be free market since nobody wants to risk their own money only to find the rules of the game get changed by the government all the time.
True.
S&S tanked in the (937) in SW ohio last year. Whoever runs the local Sonic franchise cashed out, too.
So… I’ve started getting random spam texts. One had a URL that went to sleepyjoe.link that was already dead. My standard response to all of these texts from numbers I don’t know is: “New phone. Who dis?”
Wanna fud?
A local brewery that I went to regularly (in the before time) has the best named beers. I’ve gotten in trouble a couple of times for ordering them.
The best was a pils I ordered and asked to close out the tab while me and the girlfriend were there. The beer’s name was Separate Czechs. They have a long running plan to make a light lager called “Just a Water Please”.
When this shit passes…of it does…I have a feeling you and I will be in a lot of trouble in Vegas
We’ve got rooms booked for April 2021 at the Orleans. No cost to roll the reservation over, so the girlfriend and I are planning to be there for Viva 23.1 (as they’re calling next year’s VLV). After talking to Straff last weekend, and checking flight prices, the girlfriend and I may be heading over there this fall. Less then $700 for a round trip ticket to Tokyo from Cleveland.
Nice. Whole family was supposed to do a 2021 trip to Tokyo so maybe?
Bit of rage here. The girlfriend and I had plans to go to Europe this summer. That trip got cancelled when the flights got cancelled. We were supposed to go to Iceland, Belgium, Germany, and Amsterdam.
Surprised you’re still thinking about coming here after talking to me. But, some people like drinking in the parking lot.
The girlfriend is excited about getting another stamp in her passport. I’m more interested in learning more about another culture that has drinking.
Fall? Make it early fall and you can get both humid heat and typhoon experiences.
Biden?
Send dick pics. Duh.
Of course, that’s my response to many things.
Why would you send someone pics of Gov Newsom?
To follow up with hayek, why would I have a picture of DeWine?
Clown Prince Sununu here. Yeah, I wouldn’t do that.
I’ll bet Sean is using Gauleiter Wolf’s pictures.
Same reason as this.
I’ve switched my ring tone to this during these difficult times. Unfortunately, it’s been rare that someone in the wild recognizes it.
Oh, I know it. Hopefully that attitude will become the ‘new normal’ I hear 20x a day.
“As Andy Slavitt, who ran Medicare and Medicaid under Barack Obama”
I peed in a horse once.
How does one pee in a horse?
I am not Googleing that. Ever.
I goggled…and it was glorious!
I peed in a horse once.
Even I have not encountered that fetish.
Sing it, sister.
Oh hello there! ?
Yes, I know there are comments in between, but…HAHAHAHAHAHA!

AS far as I’ve seen, it’s real/true. He had already been reported on when he was suspended, but that was 1-2 days ago.
Keeping everything in mind*, it would seem that there are agencies within that state that would be happy to have him.

PA baconfest is still on for 2020. Just sayin.
Excellent.
When?
Nov. 7th and 8\th.
/looks at calendar
So the girlfriend is supposed to be in LA visiting her aunt then. I’ve got enough PTO to head out to PA.
Glibs meet-up?
I’m up for it. I just need some more details as to where in PA I’ll need to drive to.
See my link above. It links to the festival web page.
Easton is the last stop on I-78 before the NJ border.
I believe I know the area. I’m throwing it on the calendar now.
/and getting yelled at by the GF for going to it without her.
When you look for places, remember that Allentown is kinda ghetto. Fegley’s is in Allentown and Fegley’s is good. Well, their beer is OK. I’m biased because they, in normal times, host a monthly swing dance.
DEG: I have a fairly high threshold for ghetto. I do live in a Cleveland suburb after all…
Nephilium, I thought you might be looking for an opportunity to get out of the ghetto.
DEG: There were multiple times my coworkers and I went up to Prism brewing before they closed up in Lansdale. Back then we also have been to most of the Tired Hand locations, as well as Sly Fox and Victory.
I’ve been to Tired Hands in Ardmore and Sly Fox in Pottstown. I’ve not been to Prism.
I see Free WIll in Perkasie will ship to anywhere in PA. Dammit. I like their beer and I don’t live there anymore.
I decided to sign up for Sly Fox’s virtual Bock Fest this Sunday. We’ll see if my goat wins.
Has potential.

But you want to keep doing it because government dick soothes and massages your aging, statist prostate.
Paging Sugarfree, Paging Sugarfree.
That just might be beyonf SF…it is good though. I might just submit for it
So you’ll take it in the ass from government if they pay you enough? Who the fuck are you, Bill Kristol?
Isn’t getting to invade just one more failed state worth a bit of sodomy?
Went from “flatten the curve” to “crush the curve”. How about I slap some sense into you with my curve?
More SugarFree calls in this thread than any other I have seen in a while
Krugman would look good with a mushroom tattoo on his face.
Can’t stamp the willing and be proud of it

We have to eradicate infectious disease entirely before we can reopen. Otherwise people will die.
All the normies are finding out why we hate the “Who will build the roadz?” How does it feel to have all your nuanced ideas refuted by idiots yelling, “But it’s infectious!”?
I said that before. It seems like DeWine and reichsführer Amy Acton dont want anyone to get sick again ever from anything.
This is what drives me bananas. They think that fascism would come back with brown shirts and Swastikas. No, you dumb fucks. It comes back with a veneer of supposed kindness. The fucking neo nazis and KKK are vestigial flickerings of race based authoritarianism. Today’s fascism has nothing to do with it. You’d have to be a political Luddite to fear them. Literally under house arrest in parts of the US because people are scared of what you could do to others unintentionally. Existing in the wrong place is a crime and the owner of that place has no say if you are welcome or not. Crazy.
/rant off
To some, the Nazis weren’t bad because they oppressed and killed people. They were bad because they killed and oppressed minorities, specifically.
Yep. I’ve heard Progs defend Stalin against comparisons with Hitler by saying Stalin never killed anyone because of what they are.
That’s an accurate take. People seeing groups in scary outfits like military, nazi, or camo are going to be repulsed and scared. But when the gov’t worker doing ‘contact tracing’ comes to your door to ask even more invasive questions than the census, its seems dandy cause “we’re here to help”.
If I knew tonight would be a Winston’s Mom post I would have mixed that last drink less heavy got some protection.
The moving the goal posts thing has me sooooo pissed off I am almost ready to sell everything I have, buy a sail boat and leave the country.
The fact I need to pay attention to my state government to find out when things have the options to open pisses me off on a high level. I’ve started shifting back to liquor as the expense in beer was getting a bit high.
Unfortunately most other countries are doing the same things…
I bet I can get a dinner on a dock in most places in the Caribbean. If a person aims right it is a two week quarantine just getting there.
Wow…cause we know that the most risky of society always uses protection. I need more Kilt Lifters
https://www.fpri.org/article/2020/05/an-illiberal-plague/
When did politicians ever wish to protect those things? And I love term illiberalism since classical liberals were often authoritarian collectivists who liked to kill people
But even when things were open as usual there was still Trump and Navarro to contend with. Today Trump was saying we’re going to bring every thing back here, export it and everyone will have to buy “Made in America”. Not at $15 an hour minimum wage. McDonald’s are renovating and adapting, the ambiance of fast food places is changing.
Curious about “the ambiance of fast food”.
Its the downside of charging extra for the girlfriend experience. Bunch of cheapskates.
I had the girlfriend experience in Vienna. No extra charge it was a flat rate for 30 minutes. (not that I need 30 minutes) You might want to study the Austrian economics of prostitution.
I like Vienna.
I didn’t partake of prostitutes in Vienna though. But I still like Vienna.
I occasionally partake in Vienna sausage.
Gdamminit.
Too easy.
Low hanging fruit?
Don’t harsh my snark, man.
Vee-na or Vee-en-na sausages?
Vyannie sausage. Duh!
I liked it too, and not only because of the night life. Interesting place.
I ran with the Vienna Hash House Harriers on their 666th Hash, aka sex, sex, sex, through the red light district. Good times.
Vienna sausage experience, amirite?
You order at a touch screen and wait for your number to be called.
Only to go to the counter and tell them they messed up the order. What is innovative or new?
Sweet Zombie Cheebus. We have a date (5/26) when gyms and fitness centers can re-open.
Excellent.
We don’t have that yet in New Hampshire.
Mine opened today. I decided to avoid Re-opening day since it will be packed like when they opened the barbershops.
I got a back alley cut so I am good for a month or two.
Fuck. I shaved today. Patios are supposed to open up tomorrow, so I’m hoping to eat out on Saturday.
Monday here. Thanks to incoming rain and friends’ availability, we’re planning to sit out on the patio at a local place on Wednesday.
The only place I have a subscription for is a spin studio. I’m quite sure we’ll all get the Covid after the first ride. I was planning on suspending my subscription ($15, lock in the rate for 6 months), but I’m going to keep it active to help them out. There’s a non-zero chance that I’ll ride my bike up to a spin class at some point this summer.
All our opening dates are contingent on Joe Biden winning in November.
Is that you grrizzly?

Definitely should be pardoned immediately.
Even if you don’t like Yootoobers speaking at the camera, this one is a great breakdown of the Flynn case.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svYdF4UvJf0
The new smoking gun evidence that the rule of law is under attack is that the interviewing FBI agent disagreed with the way his notes were portrayed in the media. He claims not to remember taking them directly, but after reading them he’s sure they’re out of context. Good enough for the NYT’s.
Got that? His interpretation. It was probably one of the most high profile if not the highest profile case of his career, but he doesn’t remember the circumstances. But you should trust that he was just trying to do the right thing.
And yet they are willing to roast Flynn for saying he “doesn’t remember” and that maybe he said something.
To be charged with lying to the FBI that lie has to make a difference in either misleading the FBI or causing them to change their investigation based on your lies. That the federal standard.
But they prosecuted and convicted Flynn of “lying to the FBI” not in a manner that made any difference – as the FBI had a written transcript of the conversation which they were asking him about – nor did the supposed lie make any difference in the investigation since they already knew the answer.
It’s almost like they charged him with lying because he said “give me a minute” when he subsequently only waited 59 seconds.
Imagine being a Trump supporter who also is a fan of the drug war. You’d have to look at what happened to Flynn and somehow not notice how the cops have used similar tactics for years to get icky drug people busted. Cognitive dissonance is a bitch.
“To be charged with lying to the FBI that lie has to make a difference in either misleading the FBI or causing them to change their investigation based on your lies. That the federal standard.”
That may be, but my ex-FBI Special Agent friend told me the best thing to do when FBI approaches with “a few friendly questions” is to clam up and tell them you’ll speak to them once your lawyer has been consulted and is present during the interview.
Yup. You can’t expect them to be restrained by the rules when they have decided you are guilty. What’s the difference between the current FBI and the Gestapo of Nazi Germany?
The Gestapo was better dressed?
Jack Bauer?
Listening to some of the stuff around Flynn, it was pointed out that: yes, if you or I ever have an FBI agent approach us, we know it’s bad news. Flynn dealt with the FBI daily as part of his job. It seems like he just thought the interview was a cross your T’s and dot your I’s type thing and had no reason for any alarm bells to be going off.
Time to retire for the evening. I will watch in the morning.
Fine. We didn’t want you around tonight, anyway.
No worries. I’m heading to bed too. I’m supposed to work tomorrow (for a while at least).
That was amazing.
Good summery.
Someday, hopefully soon, someone relatively non-partisan but with a strong sense of morality is going to write a fascinating, heavily sourced book about all the non-sense surrounding the Obama administration and their outright war on the Republican challenger/president elect. You’ll have chapters on FISA abuse, chapters on foreign dossiers, chapters on bathroom servers. Mueller will get at least a couple chapters.
The Flynn chapter will be right there in the middle of all this bullshit, and still might be the worst of them all.
Following the time line of the investigations, unmasking, press leaks, Obama officials meetings, FBI texts and notes is damn near impossible. But rather than lay that out so people could understand, we have nooz orgs like NPR doing stories on the fact people get unmasked all the time so Flynn’s case is no big deal. Thanks for the link.
Neurosurgeon Says Face Masks Pose Serious Risk to Healthy People
I don’t enjoy my own bad breath.
So you want my grandma dead…got it
Another tragic coronavirus death. This one also happened to have 0.55 blood alcohol level.
According to my handy dandy BAC calculator that’s 21 shots for a 180 pound man over three hours. I guess he died doing what he loved.
Can’t we have any inspirational “real heroes” propaganda posters for this guy? Godspeed kind sir!
I’m surprised a surgeon would confirm what every surgeon on the planet already knows: they don’t fucking work! They offer offer know theortical protection to the wearer and only theoretical protection to those around the wearer that has never actually been ever shown to be effective in a real world environment. They don’t even work during actual surgeries. This is fucking lunacy and I’m livid that I’m eventually going to be shamed into wearing these fucking things…

Eh to be fair quite a few classical liberals had the same attitudes. We are all individuals but once we move into the city and attend public schools we will become civilized men who agree on pretty much everything and will allow the TOP MEN who follow Reason, Logic and Science to rule us and sometimes the TOP MEN have to suspend our civil liberties and increase their power over us, temporarily of course, for our own good.
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Oh, they’re actually serious?
It’s like they’ve forgotten the Blue maxim: Once you go blue, you can’t undo.
So it appears that Shakespeare in Original Pronunciation is a whole different experience.
Sounds like West Country. “Oi be trinkin’ zoider.” ?
Lester Holt, on NBC Evening News tonight, gleefully reported some “encouraging news” about a “promising study” done by Oxford Univ. researchers. Apparently they’ve discovered something that can block pneumonia from occurring in ChiComVirus victims. Oh yeah, this “encouraging news” was based on a study of a handful of monkeys, several of whom got the treatment and several who didn’t. Of course if President Trump mentions this tomorrow morning, using Holt’s own words, Trump will be denounced as a quack, science denier, racist, an irresponsible knucklehead, and probably as a maroon who is telling folks to grind up monkey brains and inject them.
“…grind up monkey brains and inject them.”
Think that’s effective? /asking for a friend
I really don’t understand these things that become reality – like the “Trump said drink bleach”. A bunch of people are going to get PhD’s off of tracing the etymology of those memes. There was a time when they took time to get established, and therefore getting rid of them was tough. But now? Everyone knows they are lies as they tell them, but they run with it anyway. Trump’s comments were available right next to the claims that he said for everyone to go drink bleach, but people keep saying it. The crazy democrat activist who murdered her husband is still evidence that Trump told people to go home and eat fish tank cleaner.
They used to be long-term, big lies. Like the lie that Bush banned stem cell research. I just heard that mentioned again the other day on “the Skeptic’s Guide to the Universe”. They repeated that as well known fact (and proof that republicans are anti-science) despite the fact that Bush was the one who made fetal stem cell research legal for the first time, by allowing research on an established set of cell lines.
That one was like the “bath salts make dude eat man’s face” – the initial lie was debunked, but later the lie made a resurgence as people forgot the debunking.
Today, people watch Trump say something, then immediately afterward they hear someone else either mischaracterize it or completely lie about it… and instantly believe the lie instead of their own eyes and ears. It is like their memory gets updated and replaced by the new idea that is getting pushed in there.
Mandela effect?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_memory#Commonly_held_false_memories
Definitely plays a role.
Here’s the disconnect:
They only hear the lie. They either don’t hear or don’t pay attention to the source.
It all comes down to confirmation bias and simple flat-out lies. The people that don’t remember the specifics but who want to believe those things do, the people that aren’t predisposed to believe those things might not perform a mental step by step debunking but they just shrug it off as nonsense. Not having the media as an honest actor makes getting to the heart of any matter damn near impossible.
Hi! I’ll just leave this here,

HEY YUFUS!
Is it sufficiently childish, Yu? I mean, you have people to disappoint, you know.
Big Love Tomato sounds like something out of Bloom County.
We are so lucky the constitution prevented us from devolving into a police state.
But…Weed! Mexicans! Ass-Sex! NAFTA! Trade with China! Social Media! Republicans! Democrats!
Speaking of Japan perhaps?
Is it the piece of paper preventing it or Abe’s willingness to adhere to it?
Which Abe? Shinzo or Lincoln?
It’s just a piece of paper, it prevents nothing. “The Constitution has made it’s decision; now let it enforce it.”
Yep. If people aren’t going to defend it with force, then it means nothing.
I love that wisecrack so much… because there were so many articles written about the evil courts in Trump’s America that stopped Wisconsin’s governor from saving us all from certain death.
How many of those judges are Republican?
5, but one of them lost an election held during covid.
All of the bad ones. I mean, they don’t need to check. But they are all Trump appointees…. clearly. This, despite being a State court.
I’m having a hard time telling if your sarcasm is agreeing with my sarcasm.
Check the invisible ink version of the constitution
So…. one note about those areas that flattened the curve early and successfully….
They don’t have any protection from a resurgence. Ever.
So they have to be on the lookout for people who are infected, then do contact tracing and quarantine…. or else they have to shut down again.
And for Krugman’s information… that includes almost the entire United States. Other than New York and places closely tied to New York, it never became an epidemic. Everywhere else had an effective response, for the most part.
And now we are all stuck. Not enough people have had it to stamp out the spread, so by your reckoning we wait.
Nice job of analysis there, Kruggie and the Proggies! Trump is terrible because he didn’t prevent Cuomo and DeBlasio from totally screwing it up, and he’s terrible because everywhere else did a fine job of flattening the curve.. probably too good of a job. And Trump is terrible because all of these other politicians ordered businesses to be shuttered. And now he’s terrible because people have had enough and they want to go back to work.
Do you think any of them recognize just how mentally ill they are?
Good news, sort of. Gov Kunt has graciously allows us to reopen, more or less, as long as the guidelines are followed.

New PC is up and running, copying files the files off one of my 2 2TB secondary drives to the new secondary drive.
In the middle of all of this I all of a sudden started getting shooting nerve pains on the right side of my face right above my teeth so bad I felt like I wanted to vomit. They’d last for about 3 minutes then go away and come back about 30 minutes later. My dad had this same thing and they ended up giving him anti-seizure meds. Then I thought about my older brother who has migraines that make half his face go numb like he had a stroke. Nerves, migraines, might be related. So I turned off all the lights and watched Deadpool and had some beer. It hasn’t come back yet, something there worked.
Ouch! That sucks!
So, either go see a neurologist, or get some botox injected in your face. Either one…. your call.
I’ll just live in the dark and gain super-sight. That’s how evolution works, right?
*checks file transfer* 1 Day remaining. Only one other 2TB drive to copy from, then a bunch of stuff from my current main drive…
That’s a lot of porn.
None of it is porn, otherwise I’d need a teraflop.
If you have to terarize the flop to get it to work, you may need counseling.
/I give up…
I’d flop Tara Reid from the American Pie days (not the one Biden molested)
Too bad time passed. For her. Well, for all of us, I suppose.
I’m only reminded of that when I look in the mirror. That’s why I have no mirrors in my house.
She helped it along quite a bit with some hard livin’.
Yeah…..yeah, “livin'”.
Bumps ‘n’ humps, eh?
That’s why I have no mirrors in my house.
What are you, Francis Dolarhyde?
Yeah…..yeah, “livin’”.
She was/is a boozebag.
/goes to pour more rye
Hey, the blind need lovin’, too!
Oh, I fully understand. My comment was meant to be read in a more winsome/lamentory tone.
Sounds like trigeminal neuralgia. Go see a neurologist.
Looked that up, doesn’t quite sound like this. But yeah, if this persists I’ll need to see some kind of doc.
Maybe you’re becoming palsy’ated?
Where’s Jerry Louis when I NEED HIM?! Good for nothing slouch!
My dad had trigeminal neuralgia for a while.

Damn. RIP.
I’m guessing that 3 years with stage 4 lung cancer is beating the odds.
I hesitate to link to this story, but: https://www.theblaze.com/news/nypd-video-arrest-mom-covering-face
Just….don’t read any twitter comments related to it. Those people take cop-sucking to a hole new level.
DAMN PROLE! This is for your own good!
Who hasn’t talked to there answering machine?

I’m laughing far too much for that.
He’s lonely. He hasn’t even gotten to sniff any strange hair thanks to Covid.
He hasn’t even gotten to sniff any strange
hairthanks to Covid.A lament well-known.
It’s hard to type fastley in the dark, sorry for my limited snark.
Still in pain?
No, not since I turned out the lights and started drinking.
The
goldenbronze ratio! One of them did it, not sure which one. I’m going with beer so I can expense it as a healthcare expense. That would be a YUGE tax write-off.
Check out H.R.
PufffnstuffBlock over here! That’s some fine thinking, there.Out of the ol vault, what if Sid and Marty Croft made Game of Thrones.
Digby, you made me have a sad that you didn’t actually comment on birthday present replacement to myself last night. And I asked my mom about the batteries cost, she doesn’t know, she thinks it’s under $200. Seems like it’s her boyfriend pushing that, another part of my old age reality I try to avoid.
What was I supposed to say?? You hadn’t put it together at that point, so it’s all just a load of bollocks, er, components at that point. I mean, I am glad you got the order, but, even now, I’m not sure you’ve received everything and/or resolved all the issues surrounding them.
Besides, you didn’t comment on the hat pic, or, ask about the tooth…which I don’t currently have a pic of.
Oh, and…gimme a day or so, regarding the battery cost. I gotta ask certain people about certain things…
I did so return you’re email about Tha Hat! I said I used double sided tape to attach Wisconsin Hat’s tongue, but a super glue would be more permanent.
Well, that’s not a compliment! I figured you were gonna boost my ego.
Wait….
Well, I figured if I told you hot it made you look I might come across as gay. I’m old fashioned. Brandy Old Fashioned. (I’ve never had one, but that’s a sconnie drink I guess)
Brandy Old Fashioned sounds like a drag name. Not trying to give anyone any ideas, but…any drag performers lurking here abouts–you should totally use that name.
No, the Optimus Prime.
Thisn’!
Wait a tic….I voted on the snarky quiz as to what your pic showed. No, that wasn’t your multi-choice test, but, I did vote.
It is cool, and you know I love the Gen1 figures. But, I do have some sad memories of trying to sell them when I was a…tween? Teen? Eh, it was a bad time.
Yeah, I was waiting for you to comment on the actual pic and tell me how it was a sound and totally grup decision you talked me into spending $50 more than I paid the scammer to get from a US seller. (e-bay did refund the China scam purchase).
Damn right they did!
See, I was thinking you were talking about more comp parts, not the Optimus. Well, you can feel better knowing that, at least, you helped an American get paid in that transactions. ‘Cause, freedom isn’t free.
No, the computer parts was a purchase I made when I got my Trump Bux (TM) because my current build is having problems I’m sick of patching holes in that dyke. I bought this same knock-off Optimus PrIme as a birthday present to myself back in February when I got the new job. Covid Panic was just starting in, and shipping from China was starting to take longer. Turned out I got scammed, but the replacement for twice as much is here now. I be adulting?
Eh, sounds like me, with the Chinese sword I ordered back before New Years. Plus, I’m older than you, so, I guess you are virtually required to adult like that.
I told you had a type. Anyway, now that I’m pain free and drunk I think I’ll eat that dinner I didn’t have and crash. I’ll prolly do the zoom the next couple nights since I do that on a laptop, then I’m back to work Sunday, with the Sconnie supreme court ruling, not sure what that means for my biz. Night Digby.
G’night. I’ll try to be around to show off USA Hat.
In honor of the whole COVID mishegoss, a bit of humor

Good morning, Sean!
Does it say anything about my attitude that I just find this story sad?
This is one of the reasons I don’t watch local TV news.
Good morning. ?
Morning, Sean and GT.
*waves hi*
Morning, UCS.
Mornin’ GT and UCS*
*Sean please see below.

More old people stuff.
https://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2020/05/13/pennsylvania-state-senate-passes-cocktails-to-go-bill-now-awaits-gov-wolfs-signature/
I’d like a pitcher of kamikazes to go. And a straw.
If I had my druthers and the liver from 35 years ago it would be a pitcher of zombies. Or Jack and chasers. Mornin’ Breakfast Club!
Mornin’, Festus!
I don’t think I’ve ever had a zombie cocktail. Sounds too sweet for me to try these days though.
They taste almost as good on the return trip. “Hold my hair!”
…and life has become a giant game of “Mother, May I?”
Mornin’ Sean. It’s a sad state of affairs when the Governor himself needs to sign a bill just so people can get booze.
Sad State of Affairs is my official suggestion for a new Pennsylvania state motto, since Virtue, liberty, and independence is now apparently completely obsolete.
Morning.
Back in the 90s, we used to go here http://www.nepaparanormal.com/page52.php and order kamikazes. A !ot.
Never saw any ghosts though.
I would go with a pitcher of top shelf margaritas. I have the slightly used straw and slurpy cup in the truck.
“white neighborhood”
Do they mean “predominantly white” (obviously I don’t know the exact makeup but that description sounds like forced segregation)? I don’t know too much about these fellows and it’s good to see people exercising their constitutional rights to walk about public highways peacefully. I’d like to hear more from them directly and not the media screaming “raaacccee waarrrr” like Cartman. On the other hand, the murderers don’t live there any more, so the ideology behind this seems to be entirely reductive and identarian, as if somehow all the white folks living in that neighborhood are responsible? Whatever, it’s just performative. The problem seems to be, although not officially, death by cop, because that particular psychology doesn’t just evaporate the moment a cop turns in his badge and gun, and anyone with any shred of integrity knows that problem is far bigger than just being purely a racially-driven issue, although that’s often a part of it.
Mornin’ gliberistas!
Mornin’, JD! (Your time zone may vary.)
12:14
Mornin’ again*
*see above!
Morning. How’s life on the sunny side of the Atlantic?
Got a rather intriguing job offer yesterday. Son-in-law #1 works at a heavy equipment place and he’s trying to poach me to do the clean-up of their fleet. I’m sure the pay is better but where I am now allows me near total autonomy and is basically a sure thing. I’m giving it some thought but change is scary for geezers like me, especially seeing as how industry is taking a huge hit right now. I’ll need more details.
What’s the demand for heavy equipment going to be up your way with this craziness going around?
Well it sure as shit won’t get dirty sitting in yard. That’s my main concern. It would be nice to do something else after the last 8 years. I’m getting kind of done with what I’m doing now. Mind you, I’m in reasonably good shape but there might be certain physical hurdles that I couldn’t overcome.
Hmmm…..yeah, there’s a lot to be said about a “sure thing” right about now. ::carefully avoids using one of her own “trigger phrases”::
Grrrr! New pet peeve – Karens and Kirks that obey the speed limit on empty streets seemingly in defiance of the speed demons. There is no traffic and people routinely flout the law by driving 10 or 15 above the posted limit. Who are you trying to impress, you grovelling, passive-aggressive cunte? I need to get home and drink beer!
My daily commute to work is about half surface streets and half interstate. One of the few upsides of continuing to go into the office lately has been that traffic was light. As a result, I was going a little bit faster, but others were going a LOT faster. However, I also started seeing a trooper parked in the median on the highway near my exit, which I hadn’t ever seen before.
They’re as scarce as hen’s teeth during my commute. They had a show of force last welfare day but that was about it. It just seems that half the time I want to get somewhere in a hurry there is some wannabe Peter Strzok or Lisa Page in front of me where there’s no passing.
Mornin’ JD, Festus, GT, Trashy, Stinky. (Wish those 4 of the 7 dwarves).
Too much? I don’t have what others call a “filter”, so I’m left to ask y’all.
And since I can’t be around for links tonight, I’ll leave you a little treat.
