Fluid as Glass
Fluid as glass, brightly flows,
In colors and shapes,
Through differing waters,
Aligned with stars,
In the night sky,
The stars shake and disturb me,
My sleep is light,
Knowing of impending endings,
Black and bright at once,
Shocked as intended,
I choose the Dark, endless night,
The Universe is blank,
Where I belong is far from home,
Yet I wish to return,
And tell my tales,
Of fires in the sky,
And Worlds that have Burned,
And that is news,
That I return,
Who would recognize me,
So long away,
And in misshapen form,
No return for me,
Just a decaying orbit,
Hovering here, I reach out, and touch the face, of God……
Evenin’ Yusef, happy to see you and be along for the ride this evening
A look to the right I see the list of things to buy,
I forgot the list because I am a forgetful guy,
I often don’t get your poetry Yufus but I feel ya,
On the forgotten list the only thing I remembered to buy was tequila.
I’d call that 90% effective.
Things could have turned out a lot worse.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for reminding me to pay my Verizon bill.
Hey Yusef, how’d the trip go?
Hey Yusef, hope you’re doing well and staying cool!

Of fires in the sky,
I thought of Heinlein, then I double checked his bibliography.
Not “Fires in the Sky”, but “Farmer in the Sky”. Oops.
Ehh, you were maybe thinking of this? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106912/
Or “Tunnel In The Sky”. Loved that book.
Fox reporting that Antifa is shaking down business owners in their little chaz camp.
To be expected. As well as the call for supplies. They aren’t the Bundy’s that is for sure.
Well…maybe Bud…
This is fact-checked as false, because Antifa doesn’t exist.
The bums stole all their food.
Read this story. Lord of the Chaz.
No worries, I’m sure they won’t leave when they run out of merchandise because no one will deliver anything because, well, all the reasons are obvious.
How does that mayor stay in office? They encourage violent protests for years, and now they allow this? Holy crap, I thought LA was insane because they don’t throw the mayor out for not clearing all the trash on the freeway.
I watched a documentary on Netflix back maybe 6 months ago about Seattle. It was very sad, they were interviewing people living there. It just looked like there’s no hope at all for the city and that’s the way the residents appeared to feel about it. It sounds like people actually migrate there from all over the country solely for the purpose of being professional bums.
We have some of that here in South Florida.
There are a large number of “recovery programs” around here. It seems that states in the midwest have learned that they can use “diversionary” programs where criminal addicts are given treatment instead of prison to offload their problems. They send them down here for their “treatment”. and then when the treatment is over, a bunch of them stay. Being homeless and crazy in subtropical climes is better than being homeless and crazy in Gary Indiana, apparently.
“Being homeless and crazy in subtropical climes is better than being homeless and crazy in Gary Indiana, apparently.”
Yes, this.
In Balmer, before I started working from home every day, I couldn’t walk to get lunch without being accosted by beggars several times, mostly the same people. I’ve talked to a couple of them, the ones that weren’t so far gone that you couldn’t talk to them. Almost always drugs, or just mental illness, or both. They wouldn’t admit to the drugs, but it was too obvious. They won’t stay in treatment, or even any shelter, because they can’t do drugs. So they just wind up back out there again. Drugs are a hell of a thing.
Entire west coast is like that.
Liberal utopia, I guess.
Is there anyone who didn’t see that coming a mile away?
Evening Yusef. Nice work.

Any story involving Target gift cards is automatically lame.
Maximum retarded. “Proceeds from the sales were used to buy target gift card to then buy weapons” because black marketeers prefer gift cards from target? To cash? AND the fucking reporters. What the fuck were the charges? It seems like drug dealing is the only crime. You can buy weapons anywhere. One guy was a felon in possession, but c’mon? tell us what they were convicted of, at least. Retards all the way down.
The only thing you need to know is that they are white. Supremely so.
Also, everything at Target is free now anyway, apparently, so major knucklehead move on the giftcard, stormdunces.
In too local news, my hot pepper plants seem to be doing very well. Which is nice, cuz last year they were kinda sad.
What do you grow? This year for me it’s Carolina Reapers and Habaneros that I somehow kept alive through the winter, with Serranos and Datils to tone the heat down. The Serrano and Hab plants have been the star producers thus far.
Do you live near St Augustine? They do a Datil festival every year.
I live about 75 miles southwest of St. Augustine. Close enough that datils grow reasonably well.
All are potted on our deck.
2 apocalypse scorpion chocolates
2 chocolate reapers
1 jalapeno
1 hanbanero
The jalapeno flowered first, but the scorpions aren’t far behind.
What do you guys do with those things? You don’t actually eat them do you? I eat Jalapenos, that’s about hot enough for me. I have 2 different type of Jalapeno, 2 lemon peppers, I guess those are about 30,000 Scoville units, or about 3 time as hot as a Jalapeno I guess. I’m not sure if I can even eat that, maybe cook with it or make some sauce.
Outside of that, all of mine are sweet peppers, mini-bells, cherries, giant Marconi, and Japanese purple. The Japanese purple plants are gorgeous. Oh, and Biquinhos, I have some of those too.
All of my peppers look fine, but no blooms. They had some, but dropped off. It’s hotter than fuck though, maybe even too hot for peppers.

Anecdotes from randos:
Talking to someone today who went for an emergency dental visit – their dentist claimed that stress related teeth grinding has spiked broken teeth and abcess cases off the charts. More covid related victims…
I saw some reports from Maine of lots of folks who had minor problems turn into bona fide emergencies thanks to dentists being shut down except for emergency services. “Bona fide” to emphasize that they were real emergencies, not “emergencies” so they could get to the dentist. Basically, untreated problems got worse.
Went for routine cleaning, wore nice orange handkerchief for a mask. Temps taken with a ray gun upon entry. What a joke.
“untreated problems got worse“
*staggers to fainting couch*
I think I was grinding my teeth when my hours were cut. My teeth became temperature sensitive, which they never were before.
For a few weeks around the end of April and beginning of May I was waking up fairly regularly with my teeth clinched.
I think the anecdote has some merit too.
Absolutely,
And you should probably do something about it.
I worked at a stressful job, 60-100 hour weeks for 20 years. Ground my teeth like crazy. Now they are actually ground down noticeably.
Teeth grinding causes pain
A dentist must be seen now
All are closed though
Because politicians lame
Oh, it’s better now. My stress level, while still high, isn’t to the point it was over a month ago when I was legitimately starting to make moves to leave the city and move across country to live on a mountain away from the madness. And thankfully, I tend to get a lot of calcium and avoid sweets. Still not missing a single tooth. They are getting a bit sensitive to cold, however.
I wore a grind guard for years. In fact, I went through five of them, upgrading each time until my final model was one with metal bars reinforcing both the top and the bottom guard. I bit that shit in two, too. My sister showed up at the same dentist I used and they teased her about how I wore the ‘terminator class’ grind guard. I quit wearing it because it was making my bite even worse and giving me something to actually clench against. Since I quit, a year ago, my teeth have actually improved.
That’s interesting. I went through a couple of mouth guards made by my dentist. I think, like you, it gave me something to bite on. I stopped using it. I don’t know that my teeth are any better but they don’t seem worse.
I’d gotten to the point where I couldn’t actually perform a scissor bite any more. I’d ground my teeth down so much that they simply didn’t connect in the front. Quit wearing the grind guard, and things have slowly returned to normal. It might not be the case for everyone, but for me, wearing the grind guard actually made things worse. The dentist even stopped bugging me about it, because my teeth had clearly started to improve.
Now Gauleiter Wolf cares about the PA Constitution?
“The General Assembly is following to the letter of the law the Emergency Management Services Code,” Scaringi said.
That’s the code that says that if the General Assembly passes a concurrent resolution to terminate a state of emergency, the governor shall issue an executive order or proclamation ending it, which “is pretty strong language in the code that the General Assembly is hanging its hat on,” he said.
But, like Makhija, Scaringi said the Article III, Section 9 of the state constitution says before a concurrent resolution takes effect, it should be approved or disapproved by the governor – essentially a veto – which is the heart of the legal dispute.
And Michael Dimino, professor of law at Widener University Commonwealth Law School, says that will be a tough argument for the state legislature should this go to court.
“The statute on which the General Assembly is relying authorizes what is known as a ‘legislative veto,’ which is flatly inconsistent with the state constitution,” Dimino said.
The article in question:
Every order, resolution or vote, to which the concurrence of
both Houses may be necessary, except on the question of
adjournment, shall be presented to the Governor and before it
shall take effect be approved by him, or being disapproved,
shall be repassed by two-thirds of both Houses according to the
rules and limitations prescribed in case of a bill.
So basically the Governor can declare a “state of emergency” and become king and nothing short of a legislative supermajority can stop it.
Seems legit. Totally in keeping with the spirit of limited government.
Never underestimate the stupidity of a legislator.
Govenor is good

You’re a planner.
The chaz people created an independent state and immediately put themselves under seige. Doesn’t seem well planned.
Never is.
Every commie revolution is always surprised by the emergent authoritarianism.
They’re funny that way.
It is interesting to see the govt allowing this. Inept, scared, sympathetic? Whatever the reason, it’s not gonna end well for the chaz.
I feel bad for the residents and businesses, but I hope it goes to complete shit. And I hope it takes Sawant’s political career with it.
It’s going to complete shit, that’s the one thing you can be sure of. I can’t even imagine the least possibility that doesn’t happen.
They are sorely lacking in the steady and obvious leadership of Chazz Palminteri.
Never chaz without Chazz, I always say.
Their demands seem reasonable enough. I’m sure it’ll work out in the end.
Seems to me like these people have declared themselves to be a foreign entity hostile to the state of Washington and, by extension, the United States. Have ICE set up a cordon around it using the National Guard if necessary. Announce that everyone still inside after a set date and time will be considered as having revoked their U.S. citizenship. No goods or people cross the border until their unconditional surrender.
…then park a freighter ship in the bay and load them all up. Ship them all off to Git’mo for processing to whatever communist shyte-hole will have them – if they have any assets charge them for the privilege.
Cut off all power and water. Blockade the perimeter by ground, air, and water. Employ cell phone jammers. Start massive BBQ smokers working 24/7 up wind. Let commie nature take the inevitable route.
Since I like the cut of Grumbletarian’s jib I have modified my population control points. Arrest everybody trying to exist at the PCP. Have a State Department rep with all the necessary paperwork there to renounce your citizenship. (Include a team of SJW commie lawyers to answer the arrested questions.) If you renounce your citizenship the charges are dropped and you are put on an immediate flight to Havana, Beijing, or Venezuela (assuming a working airport). If you keep your citizenship then you face the court system. Use the info received from trust funders trying to cut a deal to build larger charges on the ringleaders, rapists and murderers inside.
No need to bust heads or violate their rights. Let their “comrades” violate away, then charge and try them.
I just don’t think anyone takes them seriously enough to care. And that neighborhood was shit when my son lived in Seattle around 10 years ago, it always seemed to be some sort of ongoing joke with people out there. I can’t even imagine how big of a pile of horseshit it is by now, even before the commie kids decided to take it over.

I feel you on the pregnancy hormones.
When we were talking about marriage, my wife and I both said we wanted to have a big family. Lots of kids. She was all-in on having 6.
So… Fast forward to kid #3.
After that one she said we could have more, just so long as I carried them.
And I agreed. I never want to have another pregnant woman in my home again. PMS is horrible. But pregnant woman is … well…. it is a wonder that we don’t end up with a lot more ax murdered husbands.
And then you meet those couples that say things like “nope… I didn’t really notice anything. She was great!” I suspect post traumatic stress disorder and suppressed memory syndrome.
Or worse, that couple that says she was not only not moody, but she was in amorous overdrive the entire time. You folks need to just shut up.
I like my wife better pregnant. Yeah, the moodiness, but at least it changes every hour. There’s not a full day’s worth of her holding a grudge like is wont to happen in normal times. The horniness is an added benefit.
Yeah, just lord it over me….
Sorry (not sorry) to rain on your parade, but my wife was very even keeled through both pregnancies.
I should mention that, having grown up the one boy with three sisters I know how some women can be “difficult” during that time of the month. I’ve always steered away from women who have severe monthly mood swings. Thus the wife I chose has never shown much up/down in mood during the month. About the only problem during pregnancy was migraines from time to time.
And the actual childbirth was as close to a National Geographic video as could be imagined with the human anatomy.
My wife was cool during pregnancy, including during labor. And on our second one the epidural didn’t take.
On our second kid she got into the chair and on the third push she was done – I was rewarded with the sight of my newborn’s bright red scrotum telling me that I had a son (we had opted to have them not tell us the gender).
So long ago, all the memories have faded to gauzy ideals.
I was an absolute horror during pregnancy – terminal morning sickness for over 5-months, demanding, moody, etc – perhaps 2-3 decent weeks the entire time. PMS and menopause were similar – my husband is a saint.
My wife just warns me when she is going to get “the grumps” and I give her a wide berth. It helps I built her a library where She can listen to her records.
Throwing up for months
Months and months without an end
Husbands are people
Best her than I comprehend
My first pregnancy, I was all sweetness and light, and I ended up delivering a very sweet, oblivious boy who doesn’t give a fuck what his peers think.
My second pregnancy, I spent the entire fucking time wanting to go to a bar and start a fight. And sure enough, I delivered a girl with no qualms over taking on a guy a foot taller than she is. She’s mean as a snake and just as tough. My husband was a saint through both pregnancies and deliveries.
I did not have morning sickness with either child. I was so stressed by real life I couldn’t tell you which part of my frantic bitchiness was life or pregnancy. I cried a lot. I couldn’t eat meat (couldn’t stand the smell), chocolate, apples/apple products, or wear perfume (it all smelled rancid).
Both labors were awful, but with #1, I just popped up off the bed, demanded food, and trotted myself down to my room completely giddy. Recovery took about 2 minutes. With #2 I’d lost so much blood I couldn’t stay on my feet and it took me 18 months to recover.
I frankly don’t remember my pregnancies for all the stuff going on that had nothing to do with pregnancy.

My very first exam at UNC was an english exam. And that poem was written on the desk I sat at. Because the moment was tense, it struck me as absolutely hysterical. My professor hands out the test, and right as I start reading the test, I notice the poem and I burst out laughing before could catch myself.

I built the system back in 2017 and went with a cheap case. I’ve tried everything, it just struggles to keep it cool.
You have a few different fans for towers. The one for the case may be insufficient, in which case an upgrade is cheap. If your CPU is overheating, then take the chip out of the board, gently separate it from the cooling fan that’s just for the CPU. Clean that fan. Purchase new cooling seal for $5, and reapply. Seriously, I’ve fixed more than one computer that way, although I guess they were all laptops.
Huh…

I’m going with a lot of illegal campaign contributions from companies who donated to “social justice” causes as a tax deductable expense.
It’s funny how they list the money to the campaigns as expenditures and not contributions. Is that because actively spend the money on the election activities themselves?
https://support.actblue.com/donors/about-actblue/are-contributions-made-through-actblue-pac-contributions-hint-no/
It’s basically a pass through for leftists candidates and causes.
PayPal for the left.
I thought PACs had to spend the money themselves, not just give giant chunks straight to candidates?
Well, see…. we have limits on how much you can donate to a campaign, see. So there’s these PACs that you can donate to instead. Now, it is a campaign violation to donate over a couple grand to a candidate. So that’s what PACs are for. But it totally isn’t just a way to get around election laws. And there’s absolutely no reason to believe that one side thinks that they can gain an advantage by creating specific types of loopholes.
No, I thought that PACs had to buy their own ads and pamphlets and whatnot. I knew they could spend unlimited, I just thought THEY had to spend it.
I left off the /sarc tag.
No, I caught the /sarc, I just thought it was a sarcsplanation.
Black dollars matter?
So, sounds like GA is going to turn solid blue overnight. Sounds like the elections were a complete disaster and there’s just dump truck loads of paper ballots all over the place not counted. Machines didn’t work, poll workers seemed to be completely clueless about everything. I’m sure this wasn’t intentional.
It’s a primary. How does that mean GA is now blue?
How? Strangely, in November, all those ballots found in dump trucks will be cast for Democrats. If they aren’t counted, it will just be more evidence that Republicans are into voter suppression.
I live in California and I can attest to this.
So what if they are?
Ballots now for primaries
For Dem candidate
No affect the general
This is just the test run.
Yeah, yeah, yeah… and Hitler had a dog.
“It’s a primary. How does that mean GA is now blue?”
It’s the warm up for November.
Ah.
Local municipality has a employer and employee tax (essentially an income tax) going into effect in January. It was intended for public safety, to hire additional police officers etc to clean up the bum fueled crime they engendered. So if city is going to defund the police, they don’t need to implement this public safety tax, right?
You are a funny funny man. Of course the tax is required plebe.
Or if you prefer- “Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi.” Commonly translated as: “Gods may do what cattle may not.”
They’ve been very quiet about it, as if they’re hoping no one remembers it. I think I might tweak that soon…
Wrong. They will make bum brigades and pay them to self police and have struggle sessions about systemic racism and zoom meetings with other bums which will require more money and another tax.
92F and 60% humidity. Still, most people are walking around with masks on. No way that is healthy for the old and sick.
Was 89 here today with 70% humidity. Hot as fuck, AC on all the time now for like a week. I can open up the doors and windows for a couple hours early in the morning and then it just gets too sticky.
I love the people
They are in their own cars
Masks they are wearing
Because racists bad
So far, I have made it through the entire cower in place without putting on a mask once. I directly credit the hubby, who jumped the grenade and did most of the grocery shopping. But I’m hoping to keep the streak going. It’s petty and silly and I still don’t want to put a fucking mask on.
Jealous. Don’t know if I would’ve worn one if I were in the states.
I fully admit the stance is contrarian and petty. It’s entirely built on a combination of the CDC’s early advice, the cower in place orders, and the sheer hypocrisy of the governors being okay with mass protests for police brutality. If they’d stopped short of lockdowns and instead required masks, I probably would have submitted. But the governors went way too damn far, and couldn’t be fair or consistent with it, so I’m inclined to #resist.
It’s mandatory here. They have undercover cops checking to see if stores let people in without them. I only wear them in stores, b ecause they are the one’s that get charged here. BTW, it’s not petty to resent being forced to engage in security theater.
Meh it sucks. When I was one of the only people out, the stores that were open didn’t require a mask. Now that everyone is out, they are requesting that you wear a mask to enter.
1. Its bullshit
2. It is their store
3. It makes the cowards feel safe, as well as the old people who can’t afford to have groceries delivered.
I try not to wear a mask, but I have no desire to terrorize little old ladies buying catfood.
Yeah, if they actually have a sign up saying ‘masks required’ I’d mask up. But thankfully even the places that told me in advance I’d need one (dentist) didn’t actually enforce it when I showed up. Which is good, since the entire distance I was expected to wear one was all of 20 feet, so it was dumb in the first place. The grocery store isn’t actually enforcing it, so we don’t wear one, and our favorite bodega openly laughed the requirement off. The only place we have to wear one, currently, is WalMart.
I laugh when I see people wearing the masks/respirators with the valve for free flow when the wearer exhales.
That’s good theater.
Only about 1 in 10 wear one here, semi rural Oregon. Some places require it, but I avoid them. Workers are required, but I see them with the mask pulled below the nose or hanging around the neck half the time. And people like delivery drivers not even bothering anymore.
That’s what I prefer. If I’m going into surgery where a doctor is getting ready to cut me up, yes I want everyone masked up. For day to day interactions though, it’s awkward and stupid and impedes my breathing and I don’t want to do it, so I avoid places that would make me. If I absolutely have to, I will. “That’s not the hill I’ll die on.” But it’s a hill I’ll definitely drag my feet on a bit.
So here’s what happens in the Commie Hill Escapade.
The mayor is probably making a deal with this gang of idiots to get a cut of their extortion money for letting them continue this silly theater. So either it all falls apart very quickly, which is my guess, or they have some success and the Feds move in and bust it all up, hauling off a bunch of antifa dummies, the mayor, and several city council members on racketeering charges.
Grab the popcorn folks, this is going to be good!
Good…. like the 80’s version of fat… with a ph. Phat.
So far they have the hunger, authoritarianism, and re-education down. Wonder who will finance it’s continued existence.
Can’t wait to see who the first corporate sponsor is.
If we #BuildThatWall around it, we could turn it into a place where we exile our murderers.
Or a Thunderdome.
Soros? Hollywood?
Well, since the US govt. propped up the USSR at various times…
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Or they may get a MacArthur genius grant.
Their compadres who have seized city hall have released a list of demands that includes the resignation of the mayor. How self-abnegating is she, I wonder?
That’s the thing about the radical Dem politicians. They think that they’re the vanguard of the glorious people’s revolution against the corrupt capitalist system. But to the actual revolutionaries, the Dem politicians *are* the corrupt capitalist system.
“a list of demands that includes the resignation of the mayor”
That’s when the deal gets cut. The problem with both the mayor and her minion of retards and the antifa retards is they both think they’re smart. Retard fight incoming!
Chicago politicians are world class in both corruption and stupidity. But even they appear to understand that being openly pro-chaos is a massively bad idea.
When you’re stupider than the Chicago City Council…
The Seattle city is ran a lot like Portland is now. By a bunch of simply clueless young SJW types with zero real world experience with anything. So it’s destined to be a total clusterfuck. Sounds like Minneapolis is becoming the same.
Anyway, what the antifa snowflakes don’t get at all, is that if you are going to set up a racketeering organization and engage in mafia like activity in a lawless landscape, well we all know that thing about how how power vacumns are just waiting to be filled. IOW, once they’ve got their little kingdom set up and going, there’s going to be competition moving in. And they are in no way prepared for that, to deal with real hardened criminals, not a bunch of their mommies basement dwelling buds. They will get get slaughtered, that is what they are setting themselves up for. It will go badly for them, sooner or later, probably sooner.
I imagine much of that nonsense is due to the massive tech wealth that has been propping things up – just like San Francisco, their tax receipts have been massively distorted for a bunch of years and they have no idea how to run things without a large, well-heeled population.
I don’t see a legal basis for federal involvement. Politically, Trump should let it sit and fester. It’s a living example of how screwed up the left is and how inept their leaders are.
I don’t see a legal basis for federal involvement.
They’ve taken U.S. soil by force and seceded from the Union.
The local schools have opened up on a limited schedule so my kids are in school for four hours this morning. This feels so weird to be here alone, able to knock out some work e-mail without having to stop halfway through a number of times to tend to some minor kiddie emergency.
Same. My kid is doing half day school, half day juku. She likes the juku much more.
Is juku like jai alai? Because that sounds way better than school.
Exactly
Most of the extra-curricular activities/studies my kids were going to have not started up yet. Bleah… My youngest doesn’t wat to go to his ping-pong lessons because that gym was the first identified local corona vectors back in February.

Usually I find PVs videos to be over sensationalized. We’ll see what happens regarding this.
It’s a shame once again that almost no one will know about this, because the media will sweep it right under the rug.
It’s the Soros, sorry for the spoiler
Another White Supremacist
That (D) seems….. reasonable? I feel like I missed the joke somewhere.
We can all sleep easier knowing that statues are being destroyed across the country. Those statues been keepin us down!
Now I see they are calling for “removal” of the Washington and Jefferson memorials.
WTF??
“Now I see they are calling for “removal” of the Washington and Jefferson memorials.”
Well, we could see that a mile away.
This was never about racism or white supremacy. It’s about destroying western culture and capitalism, and replacing it with global socialism. Sometimes I almost start believing that entire book of revelations stuff.
Same playbook as the Taliban and the Red Guards.
“Same playbook as the Taliban”
Only without the courage.
Washington and Jefferson both had slaves. I can see why it’s offensive to have people pay for their upkeep. Likewise, I think the Lincoln memorial should be removed, and the entirety of the capital mall. All of them are symbols of hate, and it’s not the Hill i want to Die on.
“ it’s not the Hill i want to Die on.”
~groan~
Might be mine
the “hill to die on argument” really bothers me, and i think today i’ve snapped. If we never are going to stop the destruction of history then lets tear it all down. Because, you know what, a lot of those monuments are offensive to me. And i shouldn’t have to fund it. Therefore we should destroy it.
ISIS would be proud. I hear they’re recruiting. Gotta destroy history so we can’t learn from it.
Feel like that was a shot at me? Judge them by their time period. Washington and Jefferson were great men for their time. King Leopold II was considered a scumbag even among the other powers at the time. So yeah, I’m not gonna die defending that guy’s statue.
I’m pretty opposed to tearing down monuments in general, and also not all that worried about colonialism as a general concept, but the arguments for colonialism don’t in any way apply to Belgium in the Congo. So yeah, I’m not dying on that hill either. If you want to justify colonialism you have to in some way improve the lot of the people colonized, not move into a savage hellhole and outsavage the locals. England left many colonies better off than they were before the empire. Belgium did not.
I don’t get the “They are gonna put up their own statues” argument either. They probably will try and I can be against those too if I want.
I do get that argument because I think the only reason we have communists and socialists running around is that we are not actively defending and promoting our culture and the left is. But I made my case the other day and I am not going to fight that battle here because it doesn’t matter here. If you are proliberty you have already absorbed the crux of what I want promoted. It is out there among the idiots tearing down our country fighting largely imaginary racism that the ideas of self reliance, responsibility and individual rights are needed, and it isn’t a battle won by me arguing with people much as I end up doing that.
Seems like we’re looking at what the function of a statue is differently. If they are burning copies of Mein Kampf, that would be worth vigorously opposing. But, I see statues as serving dual purposes: to provide a sense of continuity in a culture and to serve as something/someone to respect or emulate (at least partially). IOW, I’m not defending freedom of expression by picking certain statues to defend. It’s a question of “Does the guy’s action’s warrant a degree of admiration or not?” If Japan had a statue of Unit 731 Doctor, I’d oppose it. Yasukuni shrine? I’m fine with that because it serves the first purpose of providing continuity.
“Never apologize” applies to the statues. Inches become Miles.
T can’t take seriously the people shouting for racial equality when they’re simultaneously creating enclaves of permanent victims who will vote D and believe that the “system” is against them.
That’s why they group Somalis together, call it a community, and quote Community Spokesmen claiming to represent their interests.
The race baiters can’t afford for people to come over, settle where they think they can make a living, and just be free.
What if they succeed?? They might get uppity like those Asian business owners!!
There is a statue to Lenin in the Fremont area of Seattle. It is on private land so it should be safe from a group tearing it down,,,,,,maybe?
Left libertarians attack? No, I don’t think that works, I think they like him…Drunk Rush Limbaugh ‘conservative’ union member fans attack?
No, at no one in particular. I’m being an ass. I should take a break from posting. I find a Leopold II statue offensive too (though i wouldn’t recognize the guy without his name being there). As i state above, i really don’t like the “hill to die on” phrase. I understand it, and i get picking battles. I guess its because in this case i know that any inch is another mile. The people calling for statues are just on their march through things and no one, meets their moral standards.
Sell off all the statues, sell off the land, but i guess its because i know where it’s going, that i get frustrated with it.
But i don’t want to upset anyone. I should just stop.
Being a prickly, contrarian asshole isn’t for everyone. You have a conscience which is holding you back from embracing it. I’m that scorpion riding the frog.
I thought it was the snake with the Indian boy
So, relax. I know it looks like the French Revolution, but Americans are armed, we have institutions that rely on their own authority and tradition- not ones bequeathed by the Executive, and we have a tradition of not being serfs.
These dumbasses are already overreaching: do you really believe that most Americans, even those on the left, really want to abolish the police? What are they, libertarians?
Abolish the police, rapidly became “Take the money spent on police and spend it on my pet hobbies, and also don’t let you defend yourself”.
I’ve seen multiple tweets, etc. condescendingly explaining how “abolish the police” doesn’t mean that the police will no longer exist and you should stop freaking out.
Trumpeting the fact that you have no idea what words actually mean doesn’t seem like a winning plan to me, but what do I know?
A great deal more than the people tweeting.
I did see a meme infographic that in all sincerity showed how a police-free society. It relied on a utopian society of compliant sheep, and did not have a method of dealing with a criminal element that might want to take advantage of such a state/society.
They really do believe that criminals are purely products of their societal upbringing, so once utopia is upon us, no need for cops.
The utopians simply do not understand human nature. China is probably about as close as you can get to a compliant sheep society and it relies on complete authoritarian thuggery by the CCP, including millions of people in camps. There’s your utopia.
The utopians have a clear example of how communist systems are run – in the example of China. But they somehow allow themselves to ignore that this is not some extreme example which they could do differently but probably a pretty good embodiment, given that the population is generally homogeneous in that they have been living under the same jackboot for long enough to have melded into one social system.
Stupid westerners overlook, ignore, or simply have no capacity to grok how under this system you have to apply for and be granted permission to have a child or move from one place to another. The police monitor your internet traffic and will pay you a visit if you are not following the rules. Very basic freedoms we assume to be common to all people are not so in many communist countries.
And if China sounds bad it is an aboslute paradise compared to North Korea.
That’s not real socialism. IOW, they’re stupid.
Biden has a plan. We won’t defund the cops, we’ll just hold their funding dependent upon their performance. And their performance will be decided on how well they get out the democrat vote and support from the unions.
I thought his plan was to forget where he put them.
I don’t think that will be planned, just pure improvisation genius by SloJo.
Turn to stone.
Next town over has a statue of a cow! I feel it’s fat shaming! I’m going to riot to have them tear it down.
It’s fat shaming and it’s animal right’s abuse, and cow culture appropriation. Triple riot! If you can get some big fat SJW soy swilling fattie to climb atop it, maybe she could just tip it over and be a hero! Maybe get a street in town named after her? Maybe get a book deal and a Hollywood film?
I’ll just put on my pair of black rim glass, dye my hair blue, identify as a Fat Black Woman and climb aboard myself.
CP…FBW?
No black face?
Yeah, so what’s your beef?
What makes you think you’ve got some steak in this?
I see that AT&T’s Lily is back. Anyone else think she’s lost a few degrees of hotness?
I don’t know. She’s just 33 so she has lost a little “puppy fat” from her face. She has a gig as Squirrel Girl now.
Uzbekistani chick named Milana Vayntrub.
She’s got those Eastern European cheekbones and that facial structure that I’d kill to shoot in my studio. **HEAVY SIGH**
Now, that was a euphemism I could get behind!
+1 babuska
The scarf, or, the grandmother? It comes down to the inflection.
Why can’t it be both? Jk; she’s too young for that.
Ye-well……
Kids havin’ kids these days.
/I hope you’re correct–for a LOT of peoples’ sake.
Nope. Still cute as Hell.
Here she is Speaking about playing Squirrel Girl.

She’s as cute as a button! Squirrel Girl is stupid and lame, though…
I know absolutely nothing about Squirrel Girl, but I always liked Lily from the AT&T commercials much better than that annoying Paul from the Sprint commercials (despite the fact that I believe AT&T’s logo resembles the Death Star for a reason.)

Weather vanes. How pathetic a life to lead by spending all your energy trying to see which way the wind is blowing just so you can have it at your back.
And she claims she wanted to leave royal life in exchange for privacy, while rivaling John McCain’s land speed record for getting in front of any nearby cameras.
To thine own self be true. She’s nobody, so she can only stand near the flame and hope that she reflects a little of the light herself so that she can claim she is part of the light.
Quisling got burned doing that.
That’s hysterical. As Straff said above, the pair of them are weather vanes.
cyto: thanks for introducing me to hyperrationalist Harry Potter. It’s been highly entertaining.
I like it too, but on my iPhone, it skips between chapters right after the “disclaimer” text at a new chapter.
I have to find it again and seek a different viewer.
What I mean to say is that it skips a page or two at chapter.
There are PDF, MOBI and PUB formats available for download. One of those might work better for you.
From what I understand, it was originally a series of individual posts rather than a complete novel. The author then went back and cleaned it up some and turned it into an actual novel.
I’m glad you are enjoying it. I actually found it more entertaining than a couple of the real HP books. It captures the “discovery” fun of the first book.
Hey, Mojeaux! I just ventured onto Facebook to see if any of my friends had announced Earth-shattering news about themselves (instead of about current events elsewhere,) and I found that a friend had nominated me for a challenge “to post 7 books that I love (one book per day, no reviews, just covers)” Any preference as to which of your books I give some shameless promotion? I know (and I think you know) my fave, but I’m flexible.
Good heavens! Why you gotta make me choose my favorite
babybook like that?I don’t know for sure which one’s your fave, but I suspect it’s Magdalene. It has a killer eye-catching cover, a great hook, and it’s my best work ever. I will never be able to top that book. So it’s totes appropriate for the exercise.
But it’s not my favorite. My favorite is my next-to-worst work.
The correct answer is one of Mo’s books each day.
I’m so glad you said that! I wanted to so badly! ?
I’m trying not to be TOO blatantly obvious! ; )
…and you’re right – my fave is Magdalene because of its quality AND for personal reasons. What’s your fave that’s supposedly “next-to-worst”?
Proviso.
Huh. I’d argue with you, pointing out that it was the first of yours I’d read, and if it had been that bad, I’d never have read all the others. But if I say you’re wrong, you’ll ask, “Well, which one do YOU think is next-to-worst?” And going down that road can’t lead to anything good for either of us. : ) My mama didn’t raise no fool. (Well, she DID, but it wasn’t me!)
I think the safest thing for me to do right now is to state that your “next-to-worst” is still a pretty high bar, to report that I’ve done the deed (which I have) and then to go to bed. Nighty night!
Stay is not popular, but it is technically nearly perfect so I don’t count it as a bad book.
OK, you two still taking about some silly books? That’s it, you’re both the worst!
Silly boy. We can’t BOTH be the worst. It’s grammar, dude.
Of course you can. Grammar is racist!
TO bad SugarFree has not published a book.
*Too bad
That first episode of Subaru Horror Theater was excellent writing.
But why would we share him? He’s ours! And anyway, most people could not understand the sublime humor that is Steve Smith, because they suck.
I know it’s just an illusion and yet my mind indulges the fantasy out of a desire for it to be true. I have to face reality and accept that even though the denim is holding things in place, that 80 year old lady wearing tight jeans does not have a “nice ass” like my brain keeps telling me.
Damn, I thought today’s SF article would have been enough to make you stop checking out the Nance.
There’s lots of that here. From behind in a line they look like supermodels. Then, they turn around they’re like 85-90. funny, I probably said the same thing when I was 20 and they were 40-50. Time marches on.
When you come up the escalator, you’ll see some lady in profile waiting on the platform with a perfect behind. You step off and walk past her and get the straight from behind view. Then you see she has hip angles that are the evolutionary result of the females here having to disgorge giant headed babies with wide jaws.
Dude, you’re a Glib. It is known that all Glib bros only date 6 ft tall, 20 something supermodels. So we don’t need to worry about any aging or sagging stuff, that’s for peasants who don’t even own orphans.
I ? and enjoy. Guess I’m a bad glib.
Like you’ve got something better for the 30 seconds on the escalator. Stare at the signs?
The wife accused me of staring on the subway, except it was when I wasn’t. The postman always rings twice, I guess.
I swear every single time I have ever been accused of checking out some poon by the wife, I was like ‘What, who?’. And I swear to god I did not see whoever she was talking about. It just proves that women pay more attention to other women than men do. Something I’ve always known.
We all know that’s just your closeted homosexuality.
I knew you were going to say that.
My wife’s aunt was like that – and it wasn’t the jeans. Into her late 70’s she was still doing social dance (waltz, rumba, tango, etc.) several times a week. Of course I never saw it all but when she would be in shorts around the house and her legs were in full view – most 20 year-olds would kill to look like she did.
Yeah, it’s a myth that an older woman cannot have a nice ass, and it’s just the jeans, totally a myth. I mean, asking for a friend.

Dang. A lot of people are pissed that JK Rowling doesn’t hold every one of their beliefs. It’s like they hate her because they love Harry Potter so much, but know that they can’t like something written by a hateful person.
This is why you shouldn’t make your politics the center of your life.
Not having politics the center of your life is violence.

The last time I had a woman tell me ‘I’m a feminist’, I said ‘What does that mean? You like women more than men?’. She said ‘Sometimes’. I said ‘Hmm, I like women better too, I must be a feminist’. She said ‘Oh, silly, not in that way!’.
You know, she doesn’t even know what it means, like most of them. It’s just stupid virtue signaling. If you’re really a feminist, that must mean you are biased against men, which sort of sounds sexist to me. But what do I know.
I bought this coffee from eyetalian roaster and while the beans smell fantastic when I open the bag, the brewed stuff while good is nowhere near as remarkable…
It has a score of 8900. Apparently competition grade is over 9000, the had at the shop a 9100 Ethiopian one but it was 105 lei for 250 g which is more than I spend on coffee especially as I am not going to the trouble of brewing to precision. The temp of the water goes from 90 to 87 C, I eyeball rather than weight things etc
Good coffee though.
Good Morning glibbies and glibbetes

The Irish, of course.

Interesting afternoon: the nerve pinches in my arm can wait ten or more years until they get bad . . . they’ll operate later.
Twas fascinating: they put these electrodes on my left fingers, then plunge electrified needles into my forearm and hands and tell me to flex and relax while we watch the oscilloscope make pretty pictures. Happily they did the most painful stabs first; the last 20 weren’t so bad. Before all that, they were merely shocking me with battery cables; the tech was surprised that I knew when she got to 60,000 volts: felt just like grabbing a coil wire from the 1960s; 200k volts felt like, well, much more.
I didn’t break anything, tear wires out of the wall, or cry like a little bitch . . . but I thought about each more than a few times.
so, join me, Glibs, in the long limp on to the grave! but a bit of advice: don’t let a 4′-10″ Kosovar shove electrified needles in your hands.
is it your shootin’ arm? If things go bad you may need it
A podcast appearance of The Critical Drinker as his real persona. I didn’t listen to the whole thing, just enough to confirm the rumors I heard were true. I know at least one

The ones I heard; I stated that pretty clearly I thought.
And what rumors have you heard?
The ones I confirmed by skimming this podcast. Geez, you really can’t follow along, can you?
Which rumors did you confirm by skimming the podcast that you had previously heard about?

Yeah, that was the confirmation, he at least claims to be said fiction writer. See Brochetta, Digby knows what questions to ask.
He’s mentioned it before on at least one of his rant videos. Even linked to his Amazon page for his books (which is how I know).
I didn’t realize it wasn’t “well-known”, as far as he is concerned.
If I took everything people said on the internet at face value I wouldn’t be ask cranky as I am, but I’d probably have real shitty political views.
You could watch all of his YT stuff. You’d still be quite cranky afterwards.
Tried to take my nephew for a fun day, he said he wanted to go, then threw a fit because his mom made him scared of Carona and he didn’t want to stop playing his tablet game because that’s all he’s done for the last 3 months while his mom kept him locked inside. So I took his sister instead. grabbed lunch, went to a park, she drove a go-cart around the track, came back here went for a walk in the woods and she played some Arkham Knight on my new PC. Fun day, but makes me sad about the boy.
How old is he?
10
I really wanna crack wise about a 10-year-old boy crying about going out to have fun, just to play on a tablet. Buuuut, discretion being what it is, and my desire to temper my inner schmuck…
Nah, it’s fine. I’m disappointed as well.

37?!?

I think the DEA has something along those lines in their creed: “You do you”, or, somesuch.
Two more days of work then laid off again. There are signs we are getting closer to opening, but no word yet. Another location that opened got more than 14 days notice. So seeing as how we haven’t gotten word, I’m guessing I’m laid off at least the last two weeks of June. And this is in a state that is ‘open’. I don’t get it, but I’m not in charge.

Certainly seems the same people support Bureau of Land Management and Black Lives Matter. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence. Coincidences are tight!
Get out of my head!
I hadn’t seen any tv ads since Covid until Memorial Day weekend.
I couldn’t believe the GOOBLE GABBLE ONE OF US tone of the ads. It was nauseating and formulaic.
“..nauseating and formulaic…”
All written by the same slugs over at the Ministry of Truth, no doubt.
This is what it takes to sell things in the 21st century. I’m not sure what the options are beyond: Keep patronizing the business who cave; stop/do business with the companies that don’t (if there are any–watch that tactic come back and bite whoever in the ass); or, start your own, and end up having to make the choices other businesses are making now.
Have I mentioned how much I want to see commies set ablaze with as many flame-throwers as can be found?
You’re not the only one.
Gibbet Hill Formerautonomous Zone
Just the vastness of the stupidity inherent in the American commie–“We wanted handouts from the government, not a bunch of rules that we’d be forced to follow!”
Make no mistake, they want free shit however they can get it. Many of them would cut your throat to steal the contents of your cupboard.
They are the worst kind of people. It is a primitive mentality that has no place in a civil society.
Sadly, I only have lead for them.
Earlier today someone was bemoaning that Hillary never got her turn, most qualified blah blah blah. I starting thinking just how awful she is and got curious about how things are going in Libya now. There is a news blackout on Libya in the US as far as I can tell. I look it up and here are the headlines that bill page after page….
Mapping areas of military control
Libya’s GNA forces press ahead after failed truce offer by Egypt
What’s behind GNA’s decision to launch offensive to seize Sirte?
Why peace initiatives in Libya are failing
….and it goes on and on like that. What Obama/Clinton did in Libya could reasonably be called the biggest foreign disaster in US history. So much death and destruction and to what end? It was done without the consent or input from anyone in congress and it was never explained. Hillary Clinton was probably the single worst person in all of the US to be put in the White House, or a close second to Obama, and yet there are still people singing her praises.
Bengahzi only happened because some greedy tax-evading Jew made a youtube movie, you stupid White Supremacist! It had nothing to do with anyone who ever met Obama, he only talks to Angels!
Oh, man. I’d almost forgotten about the way they found that guy and dragged him out of his house as a scapegoat for Bengazi.
We need to keep separate written accounts of real history so they can’t get memory holed.
Example: after the US Supreme Court stopped the Florida recount to preserve ballot integrity. Journalists were granted rights to watch a full recount to see what would have happened if the Supremes didn’t step in. The results were quietly published in March 2001 showing that Bush’s lead GREW.
Now that time has passed, the left has convinced people that the election was “stolen” despite the witnessed recount.
We have to preserve real history.
I suspect completely memory holing things these days is nearly impossible. Brainwashing the masses on the other hand is the same as it always was.
Is the LA Times still keeping the video of him meeting with terrorists locked away?
Since the subject comes up fairly often here I have tried a number of times to find a painting I saw long ago of a Kafkaesque office for government bureaucrats. It is endless little booths with glass windows and the people in the booths have no faces. It was done by someone fairly well known and I think a contemporary of Kafka, who supposedly inspired it.
I cannot remember the name of the painter nor of the painting. It is so well done it nearly sucks your soul out just looking at the painting.
I am going to wander around like a blind squirrel a bit and see if I can find it.
If anyone knows the one I mean a pointer or two would be appreciated.
It’s after 2 a.m. (The Lord’s times zone), so, is this where certain Toledo residents show up to give Yusef shitty, back-handed “compliments”?
Not trying to do the whole Candyman summons; just bracing myself.
So, Miriam-Webster’s is going to re-vamp their definition of the word racism, so that it includes ‘power’ as a fundamental property–simply believing a race or races are inferior to another race isn’t sufficient enough. And, this is all due to one 22-year-old woman in Missouri, who was tired of having her arguments countered vie the use of the word’s definition.
This “lady”, and this dictionary, are going to literally re-write the definition, just so that no one will be able to use them to claim that people can expressing racism if their group doesn’t have some kind of political power over others.
Apparently, this will quickly lead to arguments that “racial prejudice” is one (lesser) thing, as opposed to “racism”. Eventually, these same people are going to end up loudly claiming that racial prejudice isn’t wrong, since they can’t ever be seen to be bad people.
As pure as the driven snow.
Remember: Words dont have meanings. Meanings have words.
The concept of racism does not change. Miriam-Webster does not define words, it is only supposed to put the meaning into writing.
This really changes nothing unless we let it.
You are correct. Defining words to drive meaning instead of reflecting meaning is a sure way for a dictionary to make itself irrelevant.
People are dying every day.
Get back into your homes you fucking racists.
As seen on tv this morning.
*shrug* Off to work. Blech.
Tremble, Arizona!
I hate it when I oversleep, even if it doesn’t make me late.
It’s the principle of the matter.
I hear you. In my case, it’s just because I HATE having to rush to get ready for work. I want that block of time that I’ve allowed myself to just sit & drink my coffee & web-surf. If I don’t get it, I feel deprived.
Stop making me feel guilty for stereotyping state workers with your conscientious. Frankly I consider it a microaggression.
Look, we are no less individuals than any other group. My punctuality is not a result of membership in a class of people.
*I’m only referencing my tendency to be punctual to a fault because I get neurotic about being late, and oversleeping puts a stressor on that time frame. But the main point stands.
First World Problem, Chapter 53534: Latest update yesterday from DHL on The Lost Package with the item I ordered May 21st: It’s back in Columbus, OH, where it started, and they report “Visible Damage.” I don’t think it’s going to arrive today as (re)scheduled.
In the meantime, something I ordered a few days later arrived yesterday. Unbeknownst to me when I ordered it, it was shipped from China. And it beat the package that was trying to get from Columbus to Dayton.
I once had a package disappear in FedEx’s system for months only to suddenly show up on my doorstep one day long after I’d written it off as lost.
Had you purchased a replacement in the meantime? In my experience, the best way to find something that’s been lost is to buy another of the same thing. Works like a charm.
Worse, after failing to get resolution from FedEx, I contacted the vendor and they dispatched a second set which had already arrived by the time FedEx found the package.
Though for their prompt and hassle free customer service, I’ve since given that vendor plenty of follow-on business.
Luckily we’re talking about shirts, so it’s not like I only needed the one.

I like that the government is fighting itself.
Without looking, is Asbury Park on the “Shore”? If so, I’d think they’d be heavily dependent on tourism and, this being their big season, would really need to expand their seating capacity to remain economically viable.
Yes, it is.
