I am consistently amused by the match between commenter persona and avatar on this site.

      • leon

What does my Avatar say about me?

      • R C Dean

Some are amusing on their own, others get an extra kick from being a good fit with the commenter. Yours is more the former.

Don Escaped is in his own league, though.

Funny how you ain’t black was less than two weeks ago. These things fly by.

We needed some riots to rectify the situation.

    • leon

They are very concerned that Trump is being disrespectful to the symbols of those dumb sky daddy lovers.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

I guess in some sense they should be concerned about St. Johns, since that particular church is very much on the left side of the Episcopal schism.

      • Brett L

This IS 2020, so I guess Episcopalian riots aren’t completely out of the question, but they’re pretty low on my worry list.

What a vile piece of crap.

“Oh, look the rioters went away when the sun came up! All is well!”

You know what’s an abuse of sacred symbols? Vandalizing and torching synagogues and churches. You know what this comsymp cuck never condemns? Vandalizing and torching synagogues and churches.

I did like the mask with “I Can’t Breathe” on it, though.

      • Bobarian LMD

Selling an “I Can’t Breath” mask made of impermeable material would be… ironic?

      Concern troll is concerned.

  5. DEG

I like how the hat modified himself.

I like the pin-up picture in the background of Biden’s scene. Though one problem… Biden seemed a bit too coherent.

This episode is one of the best.

  6. Rebel Scum

    Aim for the legs!

Biden today on police training: “Instead of standing there and teaching a cop when there’s an unarmed person comin’ at ’em with a knife or something to shoot ’em in the leg instead of the heart is a very different thing.”

A step up or down from blindly shooting a shotgun into the night?

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

an unarmed person comin’ at ’em with a knife or something

      What is this, I can’t even….

      • Ownbestenemy

To think…he has a chance to win the presidency.

      • leon

Not just a chance. Jo Jorgenson has a “Chance”, Biden might just be the favorite to win the election.

      • Ownbestenemy

I see no positive way out of this year.
Trump deploys the military – fucked.
        Biden wins – fucked.
ANTIFA and other mobs press into neighborhoods – fucked.
Govs/Mayors that have a disdain for Trump continue to allow their cities to burn – fucked.

And I didn’t even get dinner first.

      • Bobarian LMD

ANTIFA and other mobs that press into my neighborhood – Definitely fucked.

        Cornpop liked knife play?

      • gbob

I prefer to deal with armed rioters by throwing a boomerang to knock th weapon out of their hand. As a bonus, the boomerang flies right back into your hand.

Next up for Biden is how to disarm a man wielding a banana.

    • Cy

There goes Biden trying to shoot Corn Pop again… what’s worse than a racist? A racist with dimentia!

    • UnCivilServant

A heart shot is a cleaner kill than a hit to the femoral artery.

      • Suthenboy

“Shoot ’em in the leg” is possibly the most ignorant thing said by people who have no idea what they are talking about.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

Dude, just shoot the knife out of their hands. No need to kill ’em.

      • Bobarian LMD

Aim for the spine. That is the off switch.

    • J. Frank Parnell

Just shoot them in the arm like Barnaby Jones used to do.

    • R C Dean

The man is just a never-ending source of Trump campaign ads. I can see Trump asking if there are any law enforcement members in the audience at one of his rallies, playing that clip, and asking them what they think of it.

  7. Sean

    Good stuff, CPRM.

  8. leon

    Great work CPRM.

    OT:

As seen on the interwebs by rich Entertainer: “When MLK protested they said it was the wrong way to protest, When the South Africans protested against Apartheid they said it was the wrong way to protest. There is no wrong way to protest, when you are protesting the system saying you are wrong”.

Sure whatever. Let me know how you feel when your million dollar mansion burns down.

    • Ownbestenemy

I am sure they would sing a different tune, when the mob turns on their palace as did the ESPN writer. As long as it is afar and not at their doorsteps, they will raise support.

    • R C Dean

When MLK protested they said it was the wrong way to protest

Did they? The civil rights marches were people dressed in their best, acting peacefully. I’d like to see some contemporaneous evidence that this was the wrong “way” to protest. Not the wrong thing to protest, the wrong way.

      • l0b0t

This entertainer’s comment is such retarded revisionism as to make me dizzy. “The civil rights marches were people dressed in their best, acting peacefully” – who then had the absolute stuffing beaten out of them by the police; WHICH IS WHY THE PROTESTERS IMMEDIATELY TOOK AND HELD THE MORAL HIGH GROUND!

    • R C Dean

There is no wrong way to protest

So, Mandela necklaces it is, then.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

        Yup

And by extension, I guess there is no wrong way to put down a protest.

      • Bobarian LMD

So, fire hoses and german shepards it is, then.

    • Drake

      Coincidentally:

      – Hillary has court today
      – Rosenstein testifies tomorrow
      – Senate votes to subpoena Obama officials on Friday for their roles in ObamaGate

So expect more burning and looting tonight to keep people pointed away from all that.

  9. Ownbestenemy

Excellent. For a moment, Biden seemed coherent.

  10. Urthona

So how hard is it to get an AR-15?

    • leon

Where do you live? California? i think they are illegal.

      • PieInTheSky

unless you have it gold plated

      • Rebel Scum

I don’t think they are illegal. Unless it has changed I think in order to be CA compliant it has to be ridiculously hard to change the mag. But I forget what it is and that could have changed.

      • Drake

The CA Compliant ones I’ve seen have some combination of fucked up pistol-grip, non-adjustable stock, messed up magazines, and no flash-hider. Moving to another state is easier and more pleasant.

      • Rebel Scum

I seem to recall needing to shotgun it and releasing the mag with a bullet button (!) or something. And what you describe.

    • Rebel Scum

      Five finger discount.

Nearly 50 guns are now in the hands of thieves after they were stolen by looters who were part of a group of individuals who broke into and took items from several Atlanta businesses and homes amid protests over the deaths of black individuals at the hands of former or current police officers.

A total of 43 handguns were stolen from Chuck’s Firearms, located on Miami Circle in Buckhead, at about 2:30 a.m. May 29, said Jack Lesher, its previous owner who still works there as a consultant.

The looting, riots, vandalism and acts of violence occurred as others peacefully protested in Atlanta and other cities nationwide in response to the May 25 death of George Floyd in a Minneapolis and the recent deaths of Arhmad Arbery in Brunswick and Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky.

Lesher said the 43 handguns stolen at Chuck’s Firearms were worth between $500 and $4,500 each.

“There’s a feeling they were opportunists,” he said. “They were looking for opportunities to break in and take stuff. That’s the thought pattern.

So the savings can be transferred straight to you!

      • Urthona

A little disappointed in Chuck’s Firearms.

      • R C Dean

Same here. You have a gun store, there’s riots, and you don’t secure it (plywood the glass, camp out or arrange for somebody to camp out inside)? Or at least secure the inventory (shift it to an anonymous storage unit).

        C’mon, man.

      • Drake

The cops didn’t try to stop it. If Chuck killed a few, the police would have locked him up and let them loot the rest of the store anyway. Screw it – now Chuck gets paid by insurance instead of paying lawyers in his murder trial.

      • R C Dean

now Chuck gets paid by insurance

Probably not. Even if he has paid-up insurance, most policies exclude losses due to civil unrest.

      • Viking1865

Yeah I’ve been saying a bunch of fucking leftists go THEY HAVE INSURANCE!!!!

Pretty sure small stores in marginal neighborhoods mostly lease their building and are not covered if their entire inventory burns.

      • Nephilium

I doubt the bars that were looted had insurance on their alcohol stores that were taken, or insurance on all the glassware that was broken.

      • Bobarian LMD

        $500 and $4,500 each?

Sounds like a bad boating accident.

    • PieInTheSky

Get 30 single shot rifles and it is basically the same thing.

      • PieInTheSky

have an orphan reload while you shoot. Like the founding fathers would have wanted.

      • Bobarian LMD

Carrying 30 rifles on my shoulder is not the same thing.

And having 90 more in each ammo pouch would be a real drag.

    • Urthona

      Texas

      • leon

Hmm So only slightly better gun laws than California. Well they are the most popular rifle platform in the country, so i’d say they should be pretty available, though the prices are likely to be a bit inflated after Corona/TrumpBucks/riots.

      • Urthona

Yeah doesn’t really match the buy low thing.

      • Drake

You can still find stuff, but on the higher end.

When I escape to free state I might indulge in something like this or this.

    • kinnath

Consider Ruger Mini-14 (5.56 NATO) and Ruger PC9 (9MM) carbine as well. I got both of those through Bud’s Gun shop. Took less than a week to be shipped to a local FFL and then picked up.

      • Urthona

Thanks. What hoops do I need to go through?

      • Suthenboy

In Texas? None that I know of. You walk in, pick your gun, pay your money, let them run a background check and if y ou are clean walk out with your gun. That is how it is in Louisiana and I think Texas is about the same.
If you have ever had a DUI or some petty arrest y ou will end up with a 3 day wait, that’s about it.

      • Plisade

I moved to TN from California. Went to buy a gun. Filled out the background form and dude started typing stuff from it into a terminal. I asked how many days it would take for the background check to clear. He looked at me puzzled and said he’d get me all checked out in a few minutes. I love The South.

      • Gustave Lytton

Find a local FFL that won’t rape you on the transfer fee.

      • DEG

In addition to finding one with a good transfer fee, check to see if he has any restrictions, such as the firearm must come from another FFL01.

Before I got my C&R, the FFL01 that handled my transfers told me everything he handled had to come from a FFL01 holder. Anything from a C&R holder or someone with no FFL are not accepted.

      • kinnath

Bud’s maintains a list of FFLs they have worked with in the past. Most FFLs state up from what their transfer fee is. Find one close to you.

I have no idea what the rules are in Texas. You must pass a federal firearms background search. That’s what the FFL does before he/she hand over the gun.

In Iowa, a valid permit to carry means the FFL does not need to run the background search, because you have already passed it. You still have to fill out the forms and the FFL must maintain the records. But the electronic filing does not have to happen.

I periodically check on their aggregate predictions. No states have swapped since i’ve checked, though Texas has gone from leans republican to safe republican. question then is: What effect does this past week have in Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, and Arizona?

    • Ownbestenemy

I would lay that at the feet of Trumps enactment or not of the Insurrection Act. If he just threatens it (which he has a record of just that) and Govs realize they need to mobilize themselves the NG of their states, then I think he is safe.

If he follows through and places military in a policing role, he is done.

      • leon

But people like a big strong leader. I mean look at the election returns in Russia, NK, Cuba…

      • Urthona

        lol

      • R C Dean

I tend to agree, but I think whether deploying the military hurts him depends on how bad things are and for how long.

If I was Trump, I’d put Congress in a bind by asking for a resolution on whether the current unpleasantness qualifies as insurrection. If the Dems vote it down in the House, I think that’s bad optics.

I’d also start shifting troops, publicly announce plans to contain the riots, and publicly training units on containment tactics. WHich they already know because Aghanistan/Iraq, but its doing something visible without crossing a line.

    • Urthona

I think Trump is fucked actually.

Not gonna be a popular opinion here, but the plague, economic depression, riots. It doesn’t matter whether it’s hit fault. It happened.

      • leon

I think it’s a sober look at it. I can still see it go both ways, I was leaning Biden, but then all this shit started to happen. I dunno. People Don’t like riots, and rioters aren’t the kind to vote. But It is gonna be by the skin of his teeth if Trump wins.

      • R C Dean

Dunno. This is a sui generis election now. The last time we had plague, riots and a sick economy, the incumbent didn’t run. No telling how this will play.

If the Dems had anyone plausible to run against him, that would be one thing. But Biden, I can’t see winning. Other “top-tier” candidates (Warren, Cuomo, etc.), I just struggle with any of them winning. But that could be my confirmation bias.

One thing is for sure – even though I am short on cash, I will be buying guns and ammo before the election, because it could be my last chance.

      • Urthona

I can talk myself into either side these days, but today this is how my thoughts are swinging.

One “positive” (I think) outcome is that my slice of suburban America has now clearly decided that covid is done. No masks, back to maximum traffic everywhere. We will now see some things in a couple of weeks, but… I do find that funny. Apparently, the public can only track one crisis at a time.

      • UnCivilServant

I am on the fence as to whether Biden survives to the election. The symptoms of his cognitive decline look to be past the point where they start to pick up speed.

      • Ownbestenemy

A telling sign will be his VP pick. Just need him breathing and able to place a hand on a bible or does he need permission from the Church now to do that?

      • l0b0t

A telling sign will be his VP pick.

        LOADING…..

      • Ownbestenemy

4 months ago, I would agree and was expecting it. Putting her on the ticket now, with all that is going on, I think would instantly tank his chances.

It is going to be a woke pick, guaranteed a black female, and now is the time to start listening to the prospective as they jockey for that spot.

      • Rebel Scum

My money is on Stacy Abrams because she is the worst possible option in a pool of bad options.

      • grrizzly

I don’t believe they’ll pick Stacy Abrams. Too fat and ugly.

      • Ownbestenemy

Can’t do Harris as opposition will easily tie her to State/Police abuse. Abrams is a weak pick but checks the boxes and any non-MSM media will be roasted if it is mentioned she is black, strong, heavy, loud, etc.

Still, don’t know if she is viable.

      • R C Dean

I just don’t think Abrams has what it takes to help in a national election. You need something other than being abrasive and entitled, even if you are fat and black.

Our ruling class sucks donkey balls. Their very best are mediocre.

      • Ownbestenemy

        ^^This

Our political class is do fucking terrible.

      • Rebel Scum

or does he need permission from the Church now to do that?

What letter is next to his name?

      • R C Dean

Welp, a quick look at what I would like to get to stock up gives a tally of thousands of dollars. Fuck me.

And that’s without sending the M1A in for an integral suppressor. Which would be awesome.

      • l0b0t

Sigh… here in NYC, i’m limited to a machete and bunch of spearfishing gear. That frog gig will fuck a troublemaker up though.

      • Suthenboy

Suppressors only work with sub-sonic velocities. M1A is .308Win.
Keep the velocity and forget the suppressor. You need the velocity and pressure to cycle the action.

*I have loaded 110gr bullets designed for 30 carbine in 30-30 Winchester. I made them for a 12 year old kid so he could handle the recoil in a ’94 for deer hunting. They zip out of the muzzle at ~3400fps. They make one hell of a crack but drop deer like a lightning strike.

      • R C Dean

Suppressors only work with sub-sonic velocities. M1A is .308Win.

        They make subsonic .308.

Honestly, if I was going to suppress the M1A (which I’m not), I’d just get a screw-on suppressor. I just like the integral suppressor concept.

      • Bobarian LMD

        A .30 cal round that goes 3400?

You mean 2400, right? Because a 165 grain Win Mag don’t go that fast, and would break a 12 yr old in half.

I’d think the only thing you could get going that fast for a youngster is in .22 range?

      • Ownbestenemy

*adjusts hastily made tin-foil hat* All too a coincidence that as the plague dies down and businesses start to open up that a powder keg was set off.

      • Urthona

I do question whether these riots happened to this extent if everyone wasn’t locked down. Nobody was doing shit. It’s perfect timing for a little insurrection.

      • Ownbestenemy

I wonder how the everyday people view it all though. We are normally knee-deep in it, the Media is gonna do what they do best anyway. So that leaves all the subrubs looking towards their cities and seeing smoke wondering when will it get to them and who will stop it?

      • Urthona

Let’s see what my fancy suburban friends are talking about:

        1) my daughter’s club t soccer team has controversy because the coach may drop two players.
        2) what fancy schools are the kids going into for high school and what they should apply for?
        3) are you going to summer camp?
        4) are you talking a prep course for testing into a private high school?
        5) my gardener got deported. Who are you using for your gardener?

I think the .5% of people who actually read the newspaper tend to overestimate how much anyone actually cares.

      • WTF

Really? You look at all of that and people think “I really wish Biden was in charge”?
I know the masses are stupid, but c’mon, man!

      • R C Dean

Biden has at least 40% of the vote locked down, regardless, full stop. And that’s without the fraud.

I wonder if the Dem ballot harvesting machine will flip the Presidential election in AZ this year. They flipped the last Senate election, and will probably flip the next one (also this year).

One of the reasons I will vote, BTW. I figure my vote will cancel out one fraudulent vote, which is something.

      • Urthona

I heard Republicans are catching on with their own ballot harvesting.

      • UnCivilServant

        *sigh*

I would rather we prosecute the ballot harvesters instead of proliferating them.

      • Urthona

        Isn’t it legal though?

      • UnCivilServant

Not in any state with a legitimate government.

      • Cy

I disagree. The vast majority of places being affected by those things already hated and didn’t vote for Trump. All he has to do is sit back and let the libs eat themselves.

      • gbob

It does seem like history is involved in some full court press against him, but it’s still a long ways off, and riots and lockdowns will be less popular amongst voters as time goes on.

        Who the hell knows.

    • kinnath

Closest scenario I can think of is 1968. And 68 gave us Tricky Dick.

I have always said that Trump would win reelection this year. I think the riots make it a lock.

      • Mojeaux

        I am sticking with “landslide.”

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

        Correct answer

Things I do know will happen.

        – Leftists with money will flee the urban centers
        – We will get supermarket inflation
        – Congress will not do shit to take their boot off the neck of the economy or our civil rights

My take on the whole black rectangle thing on Facebook.

I think my dumbass liberal friends are realizing that they’re going to start taking shit for supporting looters and rioters. So they’re tuning out and calling it solidarity.

    • Ownbestenemy

I know on our local Nextdoor thing, some asshat tried to tell everyone to come down to the Strip in solidarity and then said “but if you are not a minority, you need to shut up and just stand there”.

      What the fuck is it?

      • Ownbestenemy

Day of silence or some other bullshit. I dunno.

Just like the men that stormed the beaches at Normandy.

That top pane reminds me of a meme i saw where everyone is surrounding Hitler saluting him, and the caption reads: “This brave individual refused to salute, He was later killed by Adolf Hitler himself”

    • Suthenboy

Dude, get a haircut and stop dressing like a child.

    • Plisade

Her shirt should read, “We’re what happens when you…” with an arrow pointing to her left.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Supposedly arrested to put them in protective custody.

    • leon

The article is confusing. were they arrested, or put under police protection.

      • PieInTheSky

I understand they were first arrested and then when the threats came in put under protection

I am saddened to report that the Bleeding Heart Libertarians blog, one of the most important libertarian blogs on the internet is closing down, as of today.

      Never heard of em.

      • leon

        From the comments:

        Blargrifth
        June.2.2020 at 11:18 am

Name-calling is a stylistic choice you may or may not find attractive, but it says nothing about their principles. A principled libertarian has no reason to defend Trump.

Did you notice the link in the article to Horwitz’s 2011 critique of Ron Paul? The BHL folks have always opposed the Auburn style, collectivist pseudo-libertarian approach. I wonder what you see post-2016 that is inconsistent with this.

        https://bleedingheartlibertarians.com/2011/12/how-did-we-get-here-or-why-do-20-year-old-newsletters-matter-so-damn-much/

Sounds to coherent to be Hihn.

      • leon

It is a little rich coming from the social justice libertarians to be called collectivist.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

I was waiting for the Cato Inst link.

      • wdalasio

the Auburn style, collectivist pseudo-libertarian approach

Err…yeah. The Mises Institute and Murray Rothbard are pretty much at the founding of libertarianism. But, they’re the collectivists and “pseudo-libertarians”. I think we can safely say that Blargrifth might best be described as a “skin-suit libertarian”.

      • leon

I sometimes think a lot of libertarian establishment (LP in particular) is pissed that Ron Paul* did so well, and did a lot to bring people into the ideas of liberty. And they still can’t get over it.

        * I was not, one of them, and joined the liberty later on.

    • PieInTheSky

The brand of liberalism that combines free markets with cosmopolitanism, rejection of ethnic nationalism, and concern for the poor and disadvantaged has never been more necessary than in this difficult time, when liberty is besieged on both the right and left. – right. because free markets and limited government definitly hurts the poor so wee need to make it social justicey

      • R C Dean

        in this difficult time

Oh, fuck off. If you don’t see that “this difficult time” is due mostly to government intervention, then you should just close your damn “libertarian” blog down.

        Oh, wait . . . .

    • Raven Nation

“I like to think that this blog, or at least the people who write for it, have played some role in at least the second of those two developments. We set out with the aim of articulating a new and distinct vision of libertarianism. And – while there are certainly a great number of important details of that vision that have yet to be worked out – I think we have succeeded. The project of establishing the intellectual space for bleeding-heart libertarian ideas has also more or less succeeded, giving way to the various different intellectual projects people are going to pursue in that space.

In other words, we’ve said what we needed to say”

Reminds me of the first ten seconds of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGdhRR6OeDw

    • PieInTheSky

I clicked on a few more articles jeez the comments are a shitshow. I always say this, off course, the one time year I click a few reason articles. ANd to think the comment section was once important to my formation as a libertarian. It is sad really… anyone who wonders in there now will leave without getting a single good idea.

      • Suthenboy

The label ‘libertarian’ has largely been skin-suited by collectivists . This has been the case for quite some time.

      • PieInTheSky

        we should appropriate libertineism then

      • Chipwooder

Speaking of that, I waded into TOS today for the first time in months. 2Chili has a somewhat pointless comment arguing against Tucker Carlson’s “rioting is a form of tyranny” comment (JD’s not wrong here, I don’t think, but it’s a minor point of semantics, hardly worth of an entire column” Found this shiny bit of idiocy:

And while I don’t condone looting Target or anything like that, I said in a previous thread why I understand it is a valid tactic

        “Yeah looting is wrong, BUUUUUUUUT….”

      • Chipwooder

Also, John makes an appearance calling him “Turcille”. Very on-brand!

    • Raven Nation

I will say that Libertarianism(.)org and the Free Thought podcast, both run by people associated with BHL have some thought-provoking items.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

I’ll check it out. I’m not inclined to libertarianism that measures things along collectivist lines though.

      • Raven Nation

I don’t necessarily agree with them, but there are some interesting discussions.

For me, anyway, hearing someone I disagree with often has the effect of honing my own positions more sharply OR causing me to modify without giving up a position OR helping me see some of the difficulties within my position (see also: Hitchens, Christopher; Hyperbole, The).

      • PieInTheSky

as long as the disagreement has rhyme or reason [or is it thyme?]

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

Back in 2011, a group of academic philosophers started a blog called “Bleeding Heart Libertarians.” The idea behind that blog was simple, but also somewhat vague in terms of its specifics: that you could be a libertarian who favored free markets and limited governments, and still care about the kind of things people on the left refer to as “social justice” – relieving poverty, racial and sexual equality, immigrant rights, LBGTQ rights, and so on. Hence, the slogan of the blog, “free markets and social justice….”

      Well…. bye…

      • UnCivilServant

        “Free Market Communism”.

        Yeah, that makes sense.

      • Suthenboy

        ^Exactly this. ^

Just another mealy mouthed justification for telling others how to live.

      • Rebel Scum

        “Libertarian Socialism”

      • Chipwooder

Hey, whatever happened to those “Danketarian” clowns? They still around?

      • Viking1865

        “relieving poverty”

You give me a red pen, the US code, and the federal register, I’ll create an economic boom like has never been seen before.

        “racial and sexual equality”

Oh so BHL advocated against racial and sexual preferences in publicly funded education?

        “immigrant rights”

Is this like “right to open a business, rent an apartment, work for a wage” or “right to vote and collect welfare after 3 weeks in the US” type immigrant rights?

        “LBGTQ rights”

Other than gay marriage, what rights are there?

        “and so on”

what, carbon tax? net neutrality? UBI?

      • Chipwooder

I haven’t bothered looking at that place for a very long time, but I do know they are enthusiastic backers of public accomodation laws.

    • Florida Man

I’m not familiar with them, but I think there is a place for libertarians to cater to a non traditional audience. Highlight how free minds and free markets are good specifically for women and minorities and how they are more just than what we currently have.

      • PieInTheSky

you don’t need a new branch of libertarianism to do that.

      • Florida Man

You do if you want to expand your base. Libertarians are majority male and white. Engaging people who may not be familiar with the political philosophy And how it would work for them and their particular concerns can only be a good thing. You don’t have to change your principles, just share how ending the war on drugs primarily helps inner city resident as an example.

      • leon

Yeah. Though i think the general discomfort among libertarians with such an approach is that it seems like we are saying “Look liberty is good because it will help you this way” and what people here is “This policy is good for me”.

I.E most people are willing to accept a policy if it is argued well and not already politically charged. Few people are ready to understand a new set of principles underlying that policy. Now if we could convince enough people on enough policy changes fast enough maybe it wouldn’t matter, but that has never been seen.

      • Incentives Matter

. . . you don’t need a new branch of libertarianism to do that.

Correct. You need a new marketing department of libertarianism to do that.

      • Tundra

        This x about a gagillion.

I’ve never seen a product so good be marketed so poorly.

      • Viking1865

We tend towards the autistic and brutally honest, so statists have easily been able to trick libertarian standard bearers into discoursing about things like the age of consent. They just can’t help themselves.

You ask a Republican about charging the woman in an abortion as a murderer, he will talk about the doctor and the evils of Planned Parenthood. You ask a Democrat about tax hikes, and he’ll tell you it will all be paid for by the rich.

You ask a Libertarian about legalizing heroin to adults, and he’ll tell you that heroin should be legal to anyone who can come up with the asking price, in gold, not just to adults.

      • Viking1865

I think there’s a difference between targeted selling of actual libertarian principles and what BHL usually trafficked in.

Institute for Justice fighting for the African hair braiders is liberarian, defending affirmative action because of past bad behavior by the State and private citizens long dead is not liberarian.

It’s just impossible to be a business friendly Democrat in America these days, so they created this bleeding heart libertarian thing. But that’s what it is, really. I remember when Cory Booker was big into school choice before he became a Senator.

  17. PieInTheSky

So if there is no second covid wave from the protests what then? I understand there were large protests in England and dutchland as well. It will be a good test.

Beginning to think that the riots are the second wave.

    • Drake

The lockdowns are about power and obedience. The “pandemic” was over weeks ago.

Courts have made it abundantly clear that property/economic rights are barely rights that should have protection. So i don’t know there is much that can be done when a mayor actively is making sure people have their property destroyed.

    • Chipwooder

Warren Wilhelm is, among a very large field of contenders, the most repugnant Dem officeholder I’ve ever seen.

    • Rebel Scum

Didn’t Cuomo just get finished tweeting about how Der Drumpenfuhrer was sicking the military on peaceful protesters?

  19. CPRM

I went over to twitter to tweet out the cartoon, apparently Wendy’s, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are all now Nazi supporters and must be destroyed because the CEO donated some money to Trump’s re-election. Orgies at Wendy’s FTW!

    • leon

I already knew Pizza Hut was a hive of evil, by the pieces of grease garbage that they pass off as pizza.

    • bacon-magic

I like Wendy’s, the other two are garbage.

      • Rebel Scum

I go to Wendy’s if there is not a Chick-fil-a around.

    • robc

Did Yum buy Wendy’s? Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC were their founding franchises.

      I heard Home Depot’s leadership donates to Republicans… That’s ok, I prefer Lowe’s.

  20. Tundra

    Excellent, dood!

The Biden close was brilliant (and scary).

    • Florida Man

I couldn’t tell if it was a real speech or stitched together.

  21. Scruffy Nerfherder

Now my lefty acquaintances are calling for jury nullification of all protester arrest cases.

I asked for clarification on what they consider to be acceptable forms of protest and if it included chucking Molotovs.

    • Tundra

My kid said too many of his friends think the riots are ok.

Of course they are all spoiled, secure college students, so…

I was pleased that he recognized that this is what democracy looks like!

      • RAHeinlein

The protester’s age seems to trend low – press coverage of many of Mon/Tues “peaceful” protests look like predominately high school/college age.

    • Plisade

…if it included chucking Molotovs at their own houses.

    • Suthenboy

jury nullification implies criminal trial. Protesters are not charged with criminal offenses. Rioters are and rioting is not protesting.

Twenty-something young men who beat old women with 2X4s don’t need jury nullification, they need a bullet to the face. Burning down someone’s livelihood that they spent a lifetime building doesn’t need jury nullification. A noose would be more appropriate.

I suspect your lefty acquaintances could use a good tarring and feathering.

      • Chipwooder

If rioters are not dealt with by the law, people will start taking the law into their own hands.

      • Rebel Scum

        +1 rooftop Korean

      • R C Dean

We were talking about how the police seem incapable of handling the riots at work, with virtually no arrests in spite of crimes being committed right in front of large groups of cops.

I passed along the nostrum that the criminal justice system isn’t there to protect us from criminals, its there to protect criminals from us.

        “What do you mean?”

“What do you think I would do if people started throwing bricks through our windows, beating up our staff, and looting the hospital?”

        “Oh.”

And she didn’t even know about the weapons I keep in my car.

      • Ownbestenemy

Case in point, the standoff in LA where the LAPD initially arrested the shop owners that scurried off the rioters.

      • Suthenboy

That is a very important point that few people get. It is what separates us from barbarians.

      • Florida Man

I think it is a message from the police to the public. “If you hold us accountable for our actions, we will let the mob burn your town down. So let us get back to killing little people and you can go back to your business.”

      • leon

        ^^^

+ 1 “If the Mayor won’t support us then we will have to stop enforcing the law”

Here’s a list of 53 individuals arrested after Sunday night riots and looting in Boston.

At least nobody here can claim that the looters were not local.

  23. LJW

Saw this gem on face derp.

“SIGNS YOU MIGHT BE PASSIVELY RACIST: 1. If you claim to mourn the murder of George Floyd while simultaneously showing more outrage for the loss of material things, then you are not an ally and you have failed to understand the significance of what is happening in the world right now. Why aren’t you this openly outraged when white people riot for winning or losing a sporting event? Does it suck? Yes, but we will recover. Innocent people dying sucks more.”

    • R C Dean

      you are not an ally

Well, you got that much right.

    • RAHeinlein

“material things” – yet the answer to this problem is cash reparations?

      • Ownbestenemy

        lol

      • R C Dean

I, for one, am still trying to figure out why looting and rioting is apparently inseparable from “mourning the murder of George Floyd”.

Of course, as a heartless libertarian, I don’t mourn for people I didn’t know personally.

      • leon

I, for one, am still trying to figure out why looting and rioting is apparently inseparable from “mourning the murder of George Floyd”.

        It is indeed a conundrum.

      • LJW

It’s the collectivist line of thinking, except in reality they don’t care for life, they only say they do to gain power.

      • R C Dean

Yeah, Minneapolis could line up all four cops in blindfolds and gun them down with a firing squad tonight, and the riots would still go on.

      • Chipwooder

Or why there are continual protests in Richmond over a murderous Minneapolis cop.

    • leon

Still in “Ends Justify Means” territory, but drifting into “Two wrongs make a right”.

“Yeah? Coming from the likes of you that is a compliment. Now go blow it out your ass somewhere else.”

What about innocent people who die in a riot? Does that suck?

      • leon

        NO JUSTICE NO PEACE RACIST!

LIke i said, getting awfully close to “two wrongs makes a right”.

    • R C Dean

That reminded me, for some reason:

When Pater Dean drove out for our fishing trip a couple weeks ago, he brought his sawed off shotgun*.

*Not to worry, I checked the barrel length on it years ago. He’s legal by half an inch.

      • Suthenboy

That can be a very handy thing to have in a boat.

      • R C Dean

Just for the drive. It pretty much lives in his truck, but this is the first time I remember seeing it out on the passenger seat. Pater Dean used to be a Marine Corps officer, so its not for show.

He doesn’t fish from a boat any more – he’s in his 80s and isn’t as steady on his feet. He nearly drowned once on one of these trips, so I’m all in favor of him staying on dry land.
