NASCAR did something stupid. They should have banned the COT instead of the CSA. Race fans know I’m right. And that’s sports.
Limey Poet Ben Johnson was born on this day. He shares it with first female Congressperson Jeannette Rankin, underwater explorer Jacques Cousteau, football coaching legend Vince Lombardi, acting legend Gene Wilder, F1 great Jackie Stewart, mobster Henry Hill, scuzzy politician Ray Nagin, Quarterback Joe Montana, TV quack Dr Oz, midget actor Peter Dinklage, and nut job Shia LaBeouf.
What a weird list. Anyway, on to…the links!
Some dumbass got brained by a statue in Portsmouth, VA. This was bound to happen sooner or later. Cops were told to stand-down, by the way. And as predicted, the city of Richmond have decided to let the mob do whatever it wants there. If you watch the video, you can only conclude that city officials want this to happen, as there’s not a cop in sight. Pathetic.
There’s no way this ruling will last. There’s lots of legal issues, but no way can a federal judge bar ICE from doing their job in a place where it’s perfectly legal for people to be. And “around” is not a very concrete legal term.
CNN releases a helpful list for censors. Seriously, they should be ashamed of themselves. They are literally stoking the fires for people to demand what gets banned or removed from shelves next. I wonder how they’d feel if Trump said “CNN doesn’t help the national news conversation.” This is fucking pathetic.
Democrats hate personal responsibility because it might hurt them at the ballot box. There, I fixed the headline. Sorry, but the rules are published and they aren’t that hard to follow. You want to vote by mail? Then follow the simple instructions. It’s not like they’re that difficult.
If you’re feeling guilty that you’re leaving a disease-infested shithole, then you’re an idiot. Also, don’t come to Texas.
Bravo to this guy. I’m sure some enterprising reporter is poring over his social media from a decade ago looking for something “controversial” he may have said.
CRIPPLE FIGHT!!!!! I hope they both lose. Also, for people fleeing there, don’t come to Texas.
Well done, Harris County. I mean that sincerely. They should be using discretion when actually charging people with crimes who may have done nothing wrong (aside from disobeying a curfew). Now throw the people who looted, rioted, or committed any form of violence in jail for a long time.
Here’s a good song for these times. Enjoy it.
Now have a great day.
“football coaching emend Vince Lombardi”
He coached Eminem?
Sorry, that is supposed to read “football coaching enema Vince Lombardi”
I am Bart Simpson, who the hell are you Glibs?
“If you watch the video, you can only conclude that city officials want this to happen, as there’s not a cop in sight.Pathetic.”
I spent some time there years ago. It was very nice. It’s obvious if you look at places such as Seattle or Portland that their officials are insane.
It’s racist to purge voter roles! Those poor minorities are just too damn stupid to go vote once every decade, or update their addresses, or respond to a letter. But we need to make sure everyone gets a RealID to drive, open a bank account, fly, interact with the government (in any way other then voting), etc…
Don’t forget that you must have some state issued ID to purchase a firearm.
Don’t forget that you must have some state issued ID to purchase a firearm.
Good point. Since both voting and the right to bear arms are protected by the Constitution, the barriers to exercise those rights should be the same.
Some dumbass got brained by a statue in Portsmouth, VA
Instant karma.
It’s gonna get you.
It’s gonna knock you right on the head.
I think it was the arma that fell off the statue and hit him
I heard it was, like, seven of them. Maybe more.
“Some dumbass got brained by a statue in Portsmouth, VA.”
I can only hope that this statue was not just a representative of some generic, Confederate soldier but the image of one specific person. I’d like to think that his ghost guided the statue to get in one last act against those who would torment him.
Jefferson Davis Statue Torn Down by Protesters in Virginia
The rampage of the VA Taliban continues apace.
“These films don’t help the racism conversation”
Most films don’t.
“Then follow the simple instructions. It’s not like they’re that difficult.”
That’s racist because black people can’t read.
You doing press releases for the DNC now?
These films don’t help the racism conversation
CNN does not help the racism conversation.
“Think twice before you tune in to them, because CNN doesn’t help the news conversation in this country.”
Can you imagine their rage if Trump said something like this?
They rage at anything he says, or does, or doesn’t do.
The white wimmen are going to be mad that BLM is veering into their lane.
The #MeToo sisters were really big on listing out movies that were no longer OK to watch. Animal House? Nope, no longer OK. Too much rape and not enough depth to the female characters (“There’s the fact that every woman in the movie exists to have sex with one of the main male characters.”)
berated for not understanding comedy
No, honey, for taking comedy entirely too seriously, would be more accurate IMO.
George Carlin would find college crowds a lot tougher today
But the era of #MeToo calls for an in-depth shedding of the parts of our culture that make assault seem OK.
The era of #MeToo ended with Tara Reade’s accusation against Joe Biden.
Out of the 654 people criminally charged during the Black Lives Matter protests demanding justice for George Floyd in Houston last week, only 52 remain charged with active cases after the Harris County District Attorney’s Office moved to dismiss hundreds of cases following a week-long review.
That’s not what they are doing. The guy has been arrested, charged and is going through the legal system.
And this DA is an ass.
No, this DA is doing things the right way. Don’t jail people and tar them with a criminal record because they didn’t disperse because of a curfew. There were a shitload of people who got arrested simply for being there at a legit protest.
Note they still have charges against anybody they have actual evidence of a crime being committed with an actual victim.
I’ve followed this one closely because it’s local. And this was a good, moral decision.
That’s the way this always runs. Pick up a bunch of people to put a stop to things… then let them all go after the moment passes.
The problem I always have is that they rarely seem to identify and prosecute the guy who throws the brick through the storefront, or the guy who grabs the first item. They usually end up finding some guy who is on video carting away the TV somewhere in the middle of the process. But it is always that first brick that is the match igniting the fire. That gives everyone permission to loot and destroy.
Very often , if a police team had simply been dispatched to that point and arrested the instigators who are throwing stuff, the whole thing might stay semi-orderly. But as we’ve proven since the Rodney King riots, police will pull back when the heat is on and let things burn, only moving in a few days later after some of the energy is dissipated.
Remember, Randall Flagg was just an instigator, and faded into the background once he got others to do his dirty work.
they still have charges against anybody they have actual evidence of a crime being committed with an actual victim.
Then that should have been mentioned early in the story. Ain’t got time to read into detail so gimme the deets. Bullet points. Jeez.
It’s right there in the first two paragraphs. I suppose they could have made it part of the headline.
Grandbaby #6 is now on the way. Expected arrival early next year.
Congrats!
Congrats!
See? Already ahead of me and keeps on heaping more. I’m stuck at 3 forever. Congrats to the family members involved. Even Grandpa/Grandma
Awesome, congrats!
Congrats!
Congrats
Congratulations! I do not join the people above accusing your grandkids of being VC, I am sure none of them are Cong rats.
Nice!
Nice. How many Meh-Baby’s do you have?
Congratulations.
Congratulations!
Expected arrival early next year.
Ordered it from Amazon did ya? “Two Day Shipping” has a new meaning in these trying times.
Congrats!
They’re Genesis days.
“Nancy Pelosi demands Republicans agree to remove 11 Confederate statues from Congress including Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee as Donald Trump refuses to rename Army bases”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8408251/Pelosi-demands-Republicans-agree-remove-11-Confederate-statues-Capitol-Hill.html
Yet, she was friends with them at the time.
They were Democrats…
I do think it is odd that a statue of Jefferson Davis is anywhere in the Capitol complex.
Yeah, not getting that one either. I suppose he is a significant historic figure. But not really one we’d like emulated, I think.
Why not? I seem to recall reading his first inaugural and Lincoln’s. Davis’s talked of peace, whereas Lincoln threatened “violence, bloodshed and invasion” over tax collection.
Because it is the seat of the Federal government of the United States. He was the titular head of an armed revolt against the United States federal government.
I was going to go on a bit about how saying he’s titular seems strange since he was elected, and the states had the right to seceded.
But looking at your wider point, yes it is strange for the Federal Government to have a statue in their capital to a man who, according to the Fed Gov mythology was the leader of a an armed revolt.
He was a President of part of what is now the US.
It would be like having a statue of Sam Houston or Mirabeau Lamar.
I don’t know if they have statues of all the past senators somewhere, but he was both a Senator and a Representative for Mississippi before the war. Maybe that’s why.
He held a cabinet post (war? maybe?) before the civil war.
Hell, she was friends with KKK Grand Exalted Cyclops Robert Byrd.
It’s amazing how this wasn’t an issue when she entered congress in the 80s.
demanding agreement doesn’t really produce agreement, does it?
what I mean is, coercion doesn’t result in ‘agreement’. what’s the word for ‘reluctant acquiescence’?
Those statues are part of the hall of statues, where each state is entitled to have two statues of prominent individuals from their state, so ultimately I think the decision should be up for the respective states to decide. The article has a description for each person, and while some do have a terrible legacy that would recommend removal of their statues others only sin was defending their home state, and their legacy included many other things that might be considered worthy of inclusion. I will note that the descriptions in this foreign press are probably more even-handed than what most domestic outlets would be willing to print. I can’t imagine CNN or similar outlets running this description of Wade Hampton (a strong candidate for removal):
Antifa doesn’t oppose the police, they want to be the police (preferably the Stasi or NKVD).
https://www.captainsjournal.com/2020/06/10/antifa-doesnt-really-oppose-police/
Tucker Carlson had a rant to that very point. And I really don’t see how you can dispute it.
They are all-in on moving to a system of Social Credit and monitoring modeled on the Chinese system, with police who enforce conformity as well as providing security.
As I have said before, these are people who read Harrison Bergeron and took the wrong message from it.
The corporate cowards are starting to dump Carlson. I sincerely hope he manages to stay the course.
He mentioned that in his rant… that the mob came after him after he called them out. He tried to triangulate by praising his employer as one of the few brave companies remaining in America.
We’ll see if they hold out. I’m sure that at some point “stopping the hate that Fox News publishes” will become a focus for the mob. It is, after all, the only broadcast/cable news source that they don’t control. This certainly must look like an important opportunity for them.
They actually do control it. I remember a while back someone analyzed all the media employees with political donations. FoxNews was over 70% Democrat. Which in any reasonable world would make them a Democratic news source. But when all the other news channels had over 90% Democrats, they are the right wing alternative. It’s the same old controlled opposition nonsense.
I keep telling people this. I lived in DC for a year, went to school there. I went to CUA, which is basically “Republican staffer and aide school”. They were uniformly Rommneyite squishes. Hell, in 2012 I remember all the people I went to school with, who were then literally working for the Republican Party, who thought Mitt Rommney was a little too conservative. These are the people who are supposed to be conservative ideologues. None of them were. All these people, the people who are supposed to translate the will of the Republican voter into policy were deeply anti-Trump, and remain so. Which is why Trump was never going to change anything.
The DC-NYC media/cultural/political/academic milieu that actually runs the country is so insanely leftist it’s basically like being ruled by a foreign power. Both parties actual politicians and more importantly the staffers and political hacks who run the shit are very much to the left of the average voter. The difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is that the Republicans lie to their base and pretend to be conservative, the Democrats lie to the more moderate voters and pretend to be more moderate.
The civil service has also turned from Fox levels of Democrats to CNN levels of Democrats. There is little political opposition anymore within the rank-and-file of the government. People think MD, DC, and VA turned blue(r) solely because of an influx of government employees, but that is only half of the story. Mirroring other institutions, the government employees who were already there also turned to the left. While Obama abetted it and W was clueless, the trend really started under Clinton. Even at the “nonpartisan” level, the government that purports to represent the people looks very unlike the people.
If you’re feeling guilty that you’re leaving a disease-infested shithole, then you’re an idiot.
Yep. I kind of think people who claim to feel that kind of guilt are simply lying to gain sympathy and understanding. All of them who very publicly claim such things are just attention seekers.
How does one do italics here? I tried the html tags but no joy.
Well, em, I don’t know. I don’t know about guilt, but I feel homesick for the small town I left sometimes. Attention whores? Clearly.
I left a small town decades ago, and I feel a connection there, but no remorse for having left. I feel for the people who are still stuck there, but mostly, they don’t see it as all that bad. I currently live in another semi-rural area, just a more affluent one now.
When I left the People’s Republic of Hawaii to move to Texas, I felt the opposite of remorse. Hawaii would be a really nice place if the government wasn’t a one party state.
<em>the EM tag words for me.</em>
[em]thanks, I’ll try it.[/em]
Oh, FFS.
You got it.
You have to use the em tag for italics, strong for bold IIRC.
I’ve never bothered to google up what was wrong with the i/b tags. It bugs me though that the strong tag is so long for what it does. Was quintupling the char usage a deliberate effort to get people to use bold type less often?
It was change for the sake of justifying the existance of the regulatory body.
Pretty much. I’ve never understood the need to deprecate HTML tags. It seems to satisfy some deeply-held OCD impulses in some of the standard-makers. Or maybe they were all users of TEXTFORM on the old MTS (Michigan Terminal Systems) IBM/Amdahl 370s back in the 80s, and hated being reminded of the “italics” and “bold” tags from that application.
<blink><font font=’Comic Sans’>No good reasons at all.</font></blink>
You forgot
Shit. How do I do nonsense tags like that?
It’s all about choice.
Right?
< fake tag >
You forgot

Yes – They are full of shit but don’t want to be seen as anything other than true New York assholes. I plan to sell my house to one of these hypocritical dicks in a few months for top dollar.
And what the hell? “Survivor’s Guilt”?
People, please. There are 8.4 Million people in the state of New York. 31,000 of you died this year from COVID. That number is serious, but it wasn’t like you escaped from a concentration camp. 44,000 New Yorkers died in 2017 to Heart Disease, and 35,000 died of Cancer. Were you walking around with PTSD, unable to function in the face of your good fortune?
I used to think it was nice that Americans couldn’t comprehend numbers and probability- as it meant that they’d keep buying lottery tickets that fund my local and state parks. Unfortunately, I have detected a down side to this phenomenon.
Nicely said
I think you mean City of New York. The State has 19.4 million.
Yeah, I just did a google for population of new york and took what popped up. I should have realized it felt low. In any case, that makes the case even stronger.
19 Million people and 30,000 deaths. There are many, many people who don’t even personally know someone who died.
We just got the call a few minutes ago. My wife’s mother, who has Alzheimers and lives in a nursing home in NYC, just tested positive for covid. Asymptomatic so far, and though she’s 85 and has bad arthritis on top of the dementia, she’s quite healthy otherwise (no heart/lung/kidney/liver disease) and her vital signs are in the normal range. My wife is holding up pretty well so far and trying to focus on her work.
This is a nursing home that was covid free until Gov Cuomo forced them to take hundreds of covid patients, by the way. Most Americans don’t even know about Cuomo forcing so many covid patients into the state’s nursing homes and the thousands of deaths that were attributable to that, BTW, as it goes against the narrative, of course.
No msm outlet yet reporting on the Seattle Autonomous Zone, either. Armed rebels take over a major American city’s downtown and declare they are their own country, i guess that’s not really newsworthy.
In metro NYC area Cuomo’s nursing home order most certainly got press. Same for NJ’s Murphy.
Was surprised to see the Seattle debacle in today’s NY Post.
Hope things remain OK for your MIL.
If she doesn’t have the high risk comorbidities, there’s still a good chance of recovery.
Bravo to this guy. I’m sure some enterprising reporter is poring over his social media from a decade ago looking for something “controversial” he may have said.
That is a seriously sloppy carry rig. Try drawing from a holster on a belt loose enough to hang that way. You’ll spend precious seconds and probably lose your balance reaching around with the off hand to align the holster properly during the draw.
People need to get them some proper training. Or even practice once in a while.
**edit fairy used < then em then > and did the same at the end with a forward slash**
Well, try #2 on italics failed harder.
*cough* *cough*
Don’t do it, db, you’ll get sucked down a trail of technical troubleshooting and dependencies.
They do. But training isn’t easy to get, and there aren’t a whole lot of places that you can practice with a handgun in Chicago, jokes about Cabrini Green to one side.
The solution, of course, is to quit watching football and baseball and all the other lame-o team sports, and make practical pistol competition the official national pastime.
Just in time for it to be burned to the ground by “peaceful protesters”.
Colonial Williamsburg is getting ready to open its doors to the public on Sunday as part of Virginia’s phase 2 re-openings.
Historic areas such as the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg, Governor’s Palace, the Capitol, and other areas surrounding Duke of Gloucester Street will allow visitors in for the first time since mid-March.
Robert Underwood, the vice president of operations for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, said they have used this time to work on a number of beautification projects.
“We painted and washed miles of fences to get them ready for the re-opening as well as repairing and painting our buildings. Including working and refreshing the interior of the George Tucker house,” he said.
In these time, continuing to label as “Colonial” anything is likely playing with fire, possibly literally. Like a violence magnet.
The female students of William and Mary are their biggest threat. Particularly since the school is now run by a full-fledged postmodern feminist who was most recently working at Smith College as a Diversity and Inclusion director.
CW has been in financial trouble for a while now as interest in factual history wanes.
I’ve long been a proponent of bringing back the actual colonial aspect of it by having more bars and some brothels.
Doesn’t fresh paint kinda ruin the appeal? Do they then distress it artificially?
(it’s a full scale diorama, we need Yusef to weigh in I think)
I would rather they not distress them. If it’s supposed to represent a colonial town as occupied at the time, a good percentage of the structures should be properly maintained, and only a few older, naturally distressed buildings should be there.
“Trump says ‘domestic terrorists’ have overrun Seattle and tells ‘radical left Dems’ to ‘take back their city NOW, or I will’ – as protesters set up armed checkpoints at ‘cop-free, autonomous zone’ and others in Portland storm courthouse”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8409067/Trump-says-domestic-terrorists-taken-Seattle-demands-CHAZ-retaken.html
I might be the worst libertarian ever, but I would sent the feds guns blazing days ago.
I don’t know how this plays out…. but picking your enemies might be as important as picking your friends. By picking people who take over city blocks and demand extortion from the residents as his enemies, he could be making a pretty smart play.
Let the socialists keep going. It’s reelection fodder for Trump.
Fuck no.
We need a shining example of what the results of what they intend to do are going to be.
Let Inslee and Brown figure it out. Don’t give the moderate left an excuse to blame Trump for what the protesters will do.
Yeah, let the mask slip all the way off.
Just not in my town, please.
My response to any group occupying the city block I’m on when they come in and ask for a “donation” would not be pleasant. But I’ve got a minor death wish that way.
I would be hanging a Gadsden flag outside my business, along with the bodies of those who tried to collect.
Also blaring 2112 out of loudspeakers, but that might just be me.
Probably best I don’t end up in this situation.
I already blast Rush on the loudspeakers. Don’t think I have a Gadsden flag to fly, but I know I have a Gadsden license plate somewhere around here.
There’s a good documentary on 2112 and Moving Pictures on Prime video right now.
No mention of how Rolling Stone would not put the most successful and influential prog rock band on their cover until 30 years after the height of their popularity and after the band members slightly disavowed Ayn Rand.
I think it was only partly the Rand thing, but mostly the anti-prog attitude.
I can’t remember, was Rush inducted into the HOF before or after Peart came out in favor of Obamacare?
After
“We” might need a shining example, but the people who own commercial property or live on those blocks don’t deserve to be held hostage. There’s the dilemma in letting these morons get their way.
https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/tyler-o-neil/2020/06/10/jay-inslee-laughs-about-antifas-rebellion-in-seattle-as-he-demobilizes-national-guard-n516014
And I thought my Governor was a piece of shit. Well, he is, but East Coast authoritarians would never tolerate that crap.
“That’s news to me. So, I’ll have to reserve any comment about it. I have not — I have not heard anything about that… from any credible source,” Inslee said, with a chuckle. “Not that you’re not credible, it’s just before I espouse and opinion I should know of which I speak.” He laughed again after giving this response.
The level of gaslighting in this country is staggering. “There is no such thing as Antifa”
That has to be marching orders from on high. There’s no way that every major media outlet got the independent idea that they shouldn’t look into all the Antifa graffiti and Antifa instigators at the scene of looting and vandalism.
I found it strange at the Richmond protests where Antifa became an actual thing for me, but I didn’t spot it as a plan, just sloppy and biased reporting. I watched NBC news showing me footage of black-clad “millitia” armed with clubs and shields attacking a bunch of people dressed like they were recruited from a local Walmart – and NBC was telling me that the “militia” dudes were white supremacist groups that were attacking counter-protesters who were protesting racism. But reading their shield, it was apparent that they were Antifa… which I had to google. NBC was clear about who was initiating violence – the black clad militia (alt-right activist white supremacists in their mind). But they had the wrong label. But when they figured out who they really were… they didn’t issue a correction… they just kept rolling with their initial assertion about labels, switching the interpretation of what we were seeing. I thought it was just evidence of them being on a team and being so biased that they couldn’t even honestly report it.
But this one… all news organizations, everywhere are singing from the songbook. And the songbook says, peaceful protests, no Antifa, and any violence is a justifiable expression of rage, and it is likely initiated by white supremacist groups anyway. Long rows of police vehicles destroyed and defaced with graffiti. Graffiti that is easily identifiable as Antifa graffiti. And every story in every paper and on every news broadcast omits the obvious “Hey, that graffiti is Antifa graffiti”. Instead, we don’t know who is behind it… but there are reports that white nationalists are on the move, infiltrating these protests.
That takes a significant command and control infrastructure with a sophisticated messaging team and an impressive level of adherence at all levels.
When it comes down to it, the corporate media is complicit in the revolution ANTIFA is executing. When it comes time to hand out consequences for this little insurrection, they deserve to be standing right beside their little revolutionary buddies.
This is especially egregious when dozens of liberal sites are doing in depth exposes of the “boogaloo” sub culture or the Whatever-the-fuck-boys.
I can’t wear a fucking Hawaiian shirt any more without being accused of belonging to a conspiracy of race war agitators, but Antifa is just a loose collection of people who share an interest in Anti-Fascism. Give me a break.
Yup. Throw in a “Antifa is litterally just “Anti- Fascism”, so how could that be bad, Fascism is bad”, condescension
They go around acting like fascists. They are pro-fascism.
Yup. And AQAP is a loose collection of people who share an interest in overthrowing the House of Saud and reestablishing the Caliphate.
Does C&C really need to be that sophisticated when it’s just coordinating a hivemind?
A slack channel is all they’d need.
We’ve already seen evidence of the DNC colluding with major media outlets behind the scenes. I doubt that this kind of thing stopped when it was exposed by WikiLeaks; I think they just tightened up security.
I know there’s no solid evidence (that I know of) that the DNC is controlling the media reporting on these riots, but I think it’s totally rational to speculate that this could be the case.
^this
+ 1!
I’m with this. Do not send in federal anything, let them figure it out on their own and when they inevitably ask for help go all Rorschach on them and whisper “No”.
I agree. I don’t see any responsibility for the Feds here.
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.
No Feds unless the State asks for them, which makes the Civil war a bit iffy but….
I’m fine with letting Washington state wallow in it’s own failure, because i’m a heartless bastard. But i’m sure you could get some argument about the deprivation of civil rights as a pretense for federal action.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure the state of Arkansas did not ask for the 101st Airborne Division to carry out the Supreme Court’s order in Brown. Article IV may still apply in general but the 14th Amendment seems to provide a separate cause of action for the Feds (at least, according to precedent).
bit?
Showing weakness to those types of radicals is really dangerous. The will keep pushing until they get pushed back. If they aren’t taken out, this will spread in Seattle and other places.
The Mayor and Governor are cowards and they know it will probably be necessary to kill some of the Antifa squad that armed themselves. So they’ll be perfectly happy to wait around for the feds so the blood isn’t on their hands. The game they are playing can’t last long.
The upside for them is they’ll be able to blame the evil guns and establish a precedent for shooting armed citizens on sight.
Cut off the water and power. Set up barricades to keep anyone or anything from going in, and screen\photo\arrest everyone who leaves, as needed. They’ll be gone in a week, no blood shed.
There will be bloodshed by the weekend. Most likely Antifa on Antifa.
Most likely Antifa on Antifa.
So, the best possible outcome.
There has already been bloodshed.
I meant “shut down the insurrection” without shedding blood.
So, no martyrs, and much humiliation as the filthy, starving holdouts file out of their massive failure.
Add in cell phone blockers and huge BBQ smokers 24/7 upwind of the blockade.
Late last night Suthenboy started a mini-thread about these idiotic “we’re all in this together” commercials shot like selfies on cell phones in living rooms and kitchens. This gave me a thought….. I’m already deluged by #BLM messaging in anything electronic. My Xfinity menu is superceded by “black voices” that I have to move past to find my recordings. My Amazon Prime has a block of “black voices” content at the top – letting me know that I really should be taking this moment to educate myself on what panafrican nationalists think of the plight of the diaspora. Loads of companies have sent me statements on how they totally support anything and everything that #BLM wants them to support.
So here’s my prediction for the next wave …. protest commercials. Tons and tons of “we stand with you” commercials with slow motion visuals of protests and messages of solidarity with the mob.
Luckily I won’t have to watch those, as we canceled our satellite service about a week into “lockdown” when we realized it was better to spend time reading or working outside, after working from home all day in front of a computer screen.
I haven’t turned on the television in two weeks and have watched little more than prerecorded documentaries, podcasts, and sports bloopers. In fact, outside of here I’ve absorbed very little news of the mayhem or cultural signaling nonsense du jour. I’m a calmer, more peaceful man for it.
Er, that kinda came out nonsensical. Been watching on the computer or tablet, no live TV. Anywho, off to work. Later guys.
You might be calm and peaceful for the moment. But you also might wake up in a very different country in a short time. These idiots are calling for dismantling society and remaking it in a communist mold with absolute power over economic and personal life. And most of our leaders are literally prostrating themselves before them.
Well shit. Since I’m waiting on a supply delivery I guess I’ll respond.
Not for nothing, I’m not entirely sure what you’re suggesting I do here. I’m in no position at the moment to influence anything that’s going on right now, in any context. Obsessing over the minute by minute account of what’s happening affects things exactly the same as me not caring, which is to say: Not at all.
Also, as many people here have stated, the media has every financial incentive to stroke up as much fear, outrage and sensationalism as possible. And the more outrageous and stupid the story or comment reported on, the more clicks and views they get. And many of us here are more than happy to feed that monkey just so we can mock them on this site. As much as we bitch and moan about the condition of the media today we’re just as guilty of perpetuating it as any other group.
Sorry if that may have come across as snarky or curt. Not my intention, just that I’m in a bit of a rush.
FWIW, I’ve been unplugged for 3 years now, with only Glibs and the occasional visit to Drudge (not so much anymore) to inform me on “the news that matters”. All the side effects have been positive.
I had the impression that you were the one with superpowers who had been hiding incognito because of a tragic backstory. You were the chosen one to come forth in our time of need to overthrow the forces of evil and restore freedom for all.
Did I get that wrong?
I. think it was Rhywun that started that conversation. I was just agreeing with him. I had been cursing the TV for a month over it already.
Yeah, I was venting about all those fucking commercials with the dancing morons. “Look how much fun we’re having on lockdown! You should too!” Fuck off.
“He’s back! Donald Trump will hold his first post-COVID rally in Tulsa in deep-red Oklahoma – then take tour to Florida, Arizona and North Carolina with NO social distancing”
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8408079/Hes-Donald-Trump-hold-post-COVID-rally-Tulsa-deep-red-Oklahoma.html
Of course, the people supporting the protests will oppose this.
He’s catching a lot of hell from the left because he’s holding his rally in Tulsa on Juneteenth. They’re convinced it’s a deliberate message to white supremacists.
They’re convinced everything he does is a message to white supremacists.
I really love the ones where they pick out some extremely obscure word or shape and scour history for any instance where some Nazi was in some way connected. Or when they find some terrifically obscure reference that means it was all inspired by racism – as in the case of the phrase “when the looting starts, the shooting starts” that some enterprising leftist dug out a quote from 1967 from Miami police chief. As if there’s a single chance that Donald Trump is up on his 1960’s Miami police riot history. Or obscure subgroups of German armed forces operating in the spring of 1941.
I’ve heard that at least 88 times.
So fucking stupid

Oddly similar to leftist literary criticism where great works become representative of [fill in the blank with critics pet movement, gay rights, racial injustice, sexism, class struggle], but then they are delusional so…
Doesn’t Secret Service protection basically enforce social distancing?
Donald J. Trump✔
@realDonaldTrump
Radical Left Governor @JayInslee and the Mayor of Seattle are being taunted and played at a level that our great Country has never seen before. Take back your city NOW. If you don’t do it, I will. This is not a game. These ugly Anarchists must be stooped IMMEDIATELY. MOVE FAST!
Something needs to be done but not at the federal level. The residents and the business owners there must be terrified and rightfully so.
Query: if local authorities are utterly unwilling to defend their own citizen, and simultaneously prohibit those citizens from defending themselves, then isn’t the only reasonable response federal intervention?
Maybe the residents and business owners could attempt a defense of their own.
Although you said they are prohibited from doing so, resisting that prohibition would be morally justified and also possibly draw a closer focus on the problem.
Similar to what he did with the earlier threats I suspect this is a move to spur more local action. If it doesn’t work there might not be much of a choice now that he’s spoken publicly.
I suspect this is a move to spur more local action.
That’s what I’m thinking. Also, what Q said. We have a tiered gov’t for a reason.
Fuck that, they made their bed, now let them lie in it. Let them experience the joy of the left wing governance they were happy to accept.
You know who else had a helpful list?
Santa Claus?
Stephen Covey?
Barack Obama?
This is the list-keeper that needs to be remembered more by the left.
Nixon?
Among there – they hold up HBO’s The Watchmen series for “black voices”. The Watchmen is an alternate reality story where race riots in America are actually the product of mind control rays employed by a white supremacist organization to force blacks to destroy their own neighborhoods. It also features the Klan destroying the vibrant and wealthy black part of Tulsa, shooting anyone they see and actually dropping bombs from airplanes on black businesses.
This is their recommended “black voice”.
The Titanic?
Oskar Schindler?

“New York City made me who I am, and now I’m leaving her? Did she win? Did she beat me? I’ve always laughed at the weak who leave and move to L.A. Am I less of a man now for leaving?”
JFC, get a life.
Shorter “that guy”: PAY ATTENTION TO ME!!!
*snort* He thinks LA is better.
He’s less of a man for believing that any living in any particular place could make one more or less of a man.
I have a hard time seeing New Yorkers as the hard boiled tough guys they seem to think they are. How does living in a city where you never learn to drive a car or shoot a gun and every form of cuisine, clothing and entertainment is available at all hours make you tough?
On the other hand, they do live in a place that smells like piss.
This is one of my main problems with most cities. The odors are intolerable to me. I can handle cow manure in a field, but the concentrated aroma of hot garbage, sewer gas, and decaying detritus present in every major city I’ve visited guarantees I’d be unhappy living in one.
Boston in the summer is just the worst. The whole damn place smells like a landfill.
I’ve met a ton of New Yorkers who have a sense of civic narcissism like I’ve never seen in people from other cities – and yes, I know they’re not all like that. I’m not saying 100 percent, I’m just saying “a significant amount”.
These people seem to think that NYC is objectively the best place in the country to live and that if you prefer to live anywhere else for any reason, you’re incorrect. They find it utterly inconceivable that anyone would prefer to live in a place where you can have a house with a yard, own a car and drive places without fighting insane traffic, and live virtually free of crime.
Again, I’m not talking about New Yorkers in general – I’m talking about the people who have moved from New York to another state (for some unexplained reason) and now make a hobby of telling the locals how much this place sucks compared to New York.
source of the old joke “how do you know someone is from NYC? Oh don’t worry, they’ll tell you”
Haha, just like Crossfitters, vegans, and people who don’t own TVs.
That mindset even occurs with people who have merely visited NYC.
I’ll be a little charitable and grant that some of these people might just be compensating for the fact that they live in Ohio, which has a perception as a boring place.
Medical supply company threw out products after Trump toured its facility
CNN’s Betsy Klein, Devan Cole, Jason Hoffman and Maeve Reston contributed to this report.
I found this kind of fascinating. My browser has tried to push this story on me for a day now, and I finally clicked. With all the rapid changes going on in this country, CNN devoted 4 reporters to a story where Trump toured a medical supply factory that received a shitload of smackers under the Defense Production Act or whatever for a photo op. But they chose to make it sound like Trump’s actions resulted in throwing away an entire day’s production, when in fact they turned on the machines for show but didn’t make much. Multiple requests for comment… Anything else happening in the nation right now, guys?
Probably, but I would advise against reading CNN to find out what.
I’ve noticed that “pushed story” thing a lot lately. Tons of anti-Trump stuff that I never would have been in line for, suddenly all in my feed. And dumb stuff, like that story.
This is clearly different. I’m not sure exactly the source of the difference, but I do know that it wasn’t there before.
My Youtube account has been trying to pull that crap lately.
Same. Lots of orange man bad.
Fortunately I’m still getting J-Pop or I’d just dump signing on…

“But we couldn’t be bothered to pull an actual quote.”
Why would I want higher voter participation? As an individual the only person I want to be voting is me.
Y’know, if the government were truly limited by the Constitution then voting wouldn’t take on this monumental importance. Then my cat could vote for the number of fucks I would give.
Good point. We should set up a new bureaucracy to research and enforce the limits of government in order to combat this problem.
Yeah, we could call it the Bureau Of Overarching Government, or BOOG.
Boogaloo! ?
Anyone who thinks greater voter participation is better hasn’t read The Myth of the Rational Voter.
While I like Caplan, I have a fundamental problem with the premsie.
I have trouble with saying a voter is irrational because I can’t make sense of their decision making.
hmm, I took his argument as more that irrational voters don’t actually analyze the policy implications of their votes, nor the expected real effects, but are swayed mostly by emotional manipulation by the candidates.
But that is rational if you value emotion over results.
Anything can become rational operating under an irrational premise.

But it’s your civic duuuuuty!
Or Shirley Jackson’s The Lottery.
Back in the old times, we read this in 6th grade.
Fraud is actually the prime motivation for opposing it, but that won’t get mentioned.
Fraud, like antifa, doesn’t exist.
This was literally fact checked and was the reason for the “fake news label” given to Trump. Suggesting that going to 100% mail in ballots would lead to increased vote fraud is provably false.
Lying liars that lie.
“But we couldn’t be bothered to pull an actual quote.”
They would have taken it out of context anyway.
But what is it that they say they are?
Whatever they espouse on any given day. So what if you’re confused by it? They have the right to live without your confusion.
This is why it’s advisable to distance yourself from people who are bugnuts crazy.
Does that also apply to people who claim they’re actually animals? To people who think they’re adult babies?
Or does actual biology apply to people with some mental illness but not others?
Man, I got a raft of shit for saying at work one day that it’s no different if you’re forced to acknowledge a trans person as the wrong sex or if you have to call this guy a lizard.
In what fucking way does JK Rowling’s tweet interfere with their lives? Stop being so insecure/totalitarian and grow a thicker skin. Declaring yourself “trans” does not immunize you from ever having to hear something you don’t like.
Twitter is their lives.
And that’s sad.
If I identify as the guy who fucks Emma Watson up the ass does that mean she needs to accept that and get the lube?
And yes, I would fuck Emma Watson.

Using lube kinda sounds like she’s questioning your right to be there, I will get the tweets ready

You don’t have to think a statue to Jefferson Davis is good to be upset by a city council letting a mob do what the council wants to do but can’t get away with themselves.
Yep. Enabling mobs is a bad idea regardless of whether you agree with the action. Since these people are communist scum, they’re going to move on to tearing down statues of Washington and Jefferson next.
communist scum
Not to be confused with me. I’m the good kind of scum.
they’re going to move on to tearing down statues of Washington and Jefferson next.
Indeed.

I never saw one movie.
Perhaps noteworthy, they have all stated transwomen are women without actually touching the point Rowling made, which is only women can menstruate.
I think they’d say that trans men can menstruate.
I’m sure if they were pressed on it, but for now they can fly past it to collect their signal points.
Not would say. Do say.
In law. They are pushing for laws requiring public restrooms to carry feminine hygiene products in men’s rooms for men who menstruate.
It is a piece of the larger menstrual rights campaign being pushed by the ACLU and others. They have a whole legislative agenda around providing free products in all public restrooms (it is sexist that toilet paper and paper towels are provided, but not other hygiene products specific to women).. They also target pricing of products targeted at women… such as women’s shampoo, clothes, etc. All simply a product of misogyny.
They also target pricing of products targeted at women… such as women’s shampoo, clothes, etc. All simply a product of misogyny.
But if these products are exactly the same as the cheaper men’s versions, why don’t they just buy the men’s versions?
Two reasons – A: they’re different formulations, B: The “I’m worth it” syndrome, ie. a higher priced good can give the false impression of being more luxuriant, even if identical to a cheaper option.
“A:” isn’t comparing “products are exactly the same”
They’re never exactly the same product.
Such as the “pink tax” where items marketed to women are sold at a higher price then the same items marked to men. Somehow the idea that women could just purchase the items marketed to men is sexist. Or that women have different priorities in what they look for in items then men.
Nor I. Tried to read first book, found it too twee.
I found them all to be a fun read. Like all YA novels of quality, they are fun and quick reads, which is useful when you are travelling for business a lot, which I was at the time. A good book that can be read in 4-8 hours is a godsend when stuck in airports and hotel rooms.
I read a lot of crap during that period. Fantasy might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but she did a good job with her HP world. I prefer a good science fiction novel, but nobody worth reading works in that genre any more. They’ve all fled to fantasy, because the SJW crowd has taken over SF.
Oh so wrong. Look at Neal Asher for just one example. 30-odd books and counting, not a scintilla of SJW nonsense anywhere.
She’s the female George Lucas — the genius (yes, I’ll use that word) to take concepts from our world and history and apply them to another in a wholly original way. They are both magnificent worldbuilders with great imaginations.
As long as posting about Rowling being attacked and defended on social media…
‘ Author J.K. Rowling, the creator of the celebrated ‘Harry Potter’ book series, doubled down on her disagreement with the transgender agenda and the social justice warrior corner of Twitter melted down in response.’
‘Rowling wrote an essay and posted it with the tweet message, “TERF wars.” TERF is an acronym used as an epithet by transgender activists to denigrate women who disagree with their agenda. It stands for “Transgender Exclusionary Radical Feminists.”‘

I may be the minority in here but I could give a damn about the tearing down of Confederate memorials. *Gets ready to dodge bricks*
Will you care when you’re required to pay for an endless series of woke monuments of the moment put up and torn down on the same spot with the shifting history of the movements?
No tax dollars should go to any monument.
But you know that’s what’s coming next.
^^^THIS^^^
If you like your government-maintained monuments, you can keep your government-maintained monuments, as long as you get voluntary money to pay for it,and they are not destroyed by BLM and Antifa. Donation not taxation.
Yeah, agreed.
But in the real world, Richmond is gonna replace the Confederates with Woke Saints, and then raise property taxes to pay for it.
OK, so let’s make the next statue something like a faceless Ken doll which we can reconfigure every time the political winds shift. Change the outfit, different hair, slide the old face off and the new face on.
I see the design committee now.
My first thought!
I heard an interesting argument the other day; removing the monuments from in front of courthouses and legislatures might be a reasonable compromise (of course the protesters aren’t reasonable but YKWIM). Having them in such a place could, to a black person, symbolize that they won’t get equal treatment in those places. I know it’s stupid, but I’m trying to be empathetic.
However, I am strongly against this “let’s erase history!” because someone is offended by it. Everytime I hear of someone doing this I think “What’s next? I guess we’ll bulldoze Auschwitz too.” History is messy and trying to cleanse it of anything unpleasant only breeds ignorance.
Due to their actions, I’ve reached a point where my stance is “No compromise” and “no prosecution for shooting looters.”
There’s no figure from history that isn’t cancel worthy. Even Gandhi was problematic but his good works overcome his more unsavory predilections.

You hand in your guns and Newton. Now here’s a copy of Juan’s book about rap and dreadlocks.
It’s part of a Marxist-socialist pathogen that never really stopped spreading.
What we’re seeing is communism by other means at play.
It’s like in The Thing when the alien organism was able to take over the host and assume human form.
The commies are in the system taking the form of ‘democrat’.
Unless people wise up to this, it’s game over because they can wipe you out.
And it spreads into areas like censorship and they couches its evil by saying things ‘it’s ok. The movie will be back but only if we sanitize it!’ or ‘I’m not a censurer but….’
I hope it’s a fad but if not enough people recoil in disgust and push back, we’re done.
Like I said above. You don’t have to agree with keeping the statutes to think that a City council using the mob as an arm of policy, is a bad thing.
Get rid of them peacefully, eh.
Let violent mobs vandalize and tear them down, no.
Sorry, cops, you’re NEVER going to be able to out-woke Muni.

Waiting for the Antifa folks to show up at Mount Rushmore. Long ways from NY or Seattle

My non American view on Jefferson Davis : guy was a loser. Why he get statues?
What are your thoughts on statues of Vlad Dracul (I assume those exist but maybe not)?
If he’s not surrounded by the impaled corpses of his enemies, I’d be disappointed.
Oops, Wrong Vlad
But for the one I was thinking of… I am disappointed. He stands alone.
That’s actually my bad because that’s who I meant.
The impaled Turks rotted to nothing long ago. Oh, you wanted statues of them?
Well, the other option would be to stake new Turks every few years.
You have to open the dialogue to all stakeholders, not just those that had a say hundreds of years ago.
Vlad was mostly a winner.
But my general stance is against statues of non fictional characters.
My opinion on this is that, while some Civil War heroes were rebels and traitors from the point of view of the winners, they were all Americans. During Reconstruction, a very delicate balance had to be struck between re-establishing the dominance of the Union and respecting the citizenry of the ex-Confederacy’s status as prodigal sons to be welcomed back to the reunified nation. Tolerating their celebration of their own heroes was a necessary move by the Union. To do otherwise would have been to risk a subsequent violent rebellion.
^^^This. The time after the Civil War was extremely volatile and a misstep could have thrust the country back into war. Respecting CSA war heroes was part of making the South feel like they were respected.
Excellent music. Growing up in a small college town in the eighties with a genuine collage radio station from the greatest era was awesome.
Second U.S. Virus Wave Emerges as Cases Top 2 Million
I don’t think people will stand for it if they lock the economy down again. I think it’s time to accept the fact that people die from viruses… like the line of thinking before March 2020.
Take the hit. Hold the line I’m afraid.
“….In Georgia, where hair salons, tattoo parlors and gyms have been operating for a month and a half, case numbers have plateaued, flummoxing experts.
Puzzling differences show up even within states. In California, which imposed a stay-at-home order in late March, San Francisco saw zero cases for three consecutive days this week, while Los Angeles County reported well over half of the state’s new cases. The White House Coronavirus Task Force has yet to see any relationship between reopening and increased cases of Covid-19, Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn said on a podcast.”
Maybe they’re looking at it wrong?
Yes, I see it clearly in the charts of daily cases and deaths.
We’re being lied to 24/7.
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/
Huh, it’s just a linear continuation of what was already occurring and the deaths are slowly falling. That’s not catastrophic by any means.
New cases are falling as well.
They’re forgetting their own original case for “flattening the curve.” The goal was never to prevent all infections, but to limit the load on hospitals and ICUs. Now they act surprised that people keep getting infected. Until a cure or vaccine or unfavorable (for the virus) mutation ends the spread, eventually everyone who is susceptible will become infected.
Exactly. Back in March, no one promised safety. They promised that there would be enough medical capacity to treat the seriously ill.
Then somewhere along the way, it became “We can blame Donald Trump for this.” So we get “grim milestone”.
When the media jumped on Sweden last week, they hit a one-day total of over 2000. Even Tegnell second guessed himself. Then, the cases dropped like a tock. First to c. 1000, then to 68. Now it’s back up to where it’s always been at around 400.
They jump and prey on the fact it’s a moving target but ignore the average. Even then, they cherry pick how they interpret the data.
I watched an interview with a Norwegian health chief. Norway didn’t lockdown as hard as we think. Plus they left schools open. They admit they did it without knowing the full scope of how the virus works but they did a reasonable trade-off calculation. The Paediatric Association of Canada not only said open schools up (for under 12) but no need to social distance.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2ewxCPtw7w&t=710s
My stance is, and it’s not backed by any science, that we shouldn’t show kids to over react in this manner.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2ewxCPtw7w&t=710s
Back at least a month ago, I saw a study looking at 7 different techniques used: closing schools was the 2nd least effective. It and lockdowns had basically no effect at all.
Sweden didnt close schools because they would have lost 20% of their medical staff if they had. They thought having nurses and doctors working was better than having them staying at home to take care of their kids.
First to c. 1000, then to 68. Now it’s back up to where it’s always been at around 400.
That’s not really true. The 7-day average has been slowly climbing and hit a new high Tuesday (according to the Johns Hopkins data).
Still not a big concern, and what’s telling is that the death rate is one-third what it was a month and a half ago, so they’re catching a lot more less serious cases now, apparently.
Lock it down again or were all gonna diiieee!!!
We DEMAND a permanent ban on DEATH!
My county is at 14 deaths. Not worried.
These states that are letting rioters walk like this are going to pay the price one day. It was always understood part of the ‘honor’ of protesting was there was a chance you’d get arrested and you took that risk. It was part of the way.
Now? All they’ve done is undermine the entire legal system and law enforcement and reduced it to a joke.
But hey. Progressive democrats voted for this so enjoy your cake.
It may be a cripple fight but tell you what, they’re making me slowly side with police. Better to keep that in tact and push hard for reform than this chaos.
What the fuck are those retards thinking doing that to cops? The cops have a point. These faux-righteous sons of bitches call the cops whenever there’s a problem, no?

NASCAR banned the Confederate flag from its races and properties on Wednesday, formally distancing itself from what for many is a symbol of slavery and racism that had been a familiar sight at stock car events for more than 70 years.
The move comes amid social unrest around the globe following the death in police custody of George Floyd, an unarmed black man in Minneapolis. Protests have roiled the nation for days and Confederate monuments are being taken down across the South — the tradtiional fan base for NASCAR.
Bubba Wallace, NASCAR’s lone black driver, called this week for the banishment of the Confederate flag and said there was “no place” for them in the sport. At long last, NASCAR obliged.
“The presence of the confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors and our industry,” NASCAR said. “Bringing people together around a love for racing and the community that it creates is what makes our fans and sport special. The display of the confederate flag will be prohibited from all NASCAR events and properties.”
Looks like they want to switch from slow suicide to fast suicide.
Meh, their choice.
NASCAR sucks.
Formula 1 turn both ways.
Rally racing is the best, and I can’t understand why it doesn’t have a greater following in the US. We have such a great network of driveable rural roads that would be perfect.
Not a lot of American-made rally cars, though that may be a chicken-egg problem.
Rallies? You mean where the road is lined with spectators and when a car crashes it takes out part of the crowd?
No thanks.

Derp you’re right Jason Priestly. I always get the two mixed up.
Well they’re both Canadian so….you weren’t to far off. We’re all related somehow.
Luke Perry, sadly, is no longer with us.
Wow, according to his Wikipedia page, he’s been in rehab twice for addiction to vicodin, meth, and other drugs, suffered from pancreatitis and also had a gastrointestinal perforation.
IIRC he was drunk and/or high through several seasons in the middle and you could tell.

oof.
He was on my JFK-LAX flight a few years ago. There was a lot of turbulence when we were approaching LA, Perry was yelling in fear.

Clothes?
Who wears clothes when you are out in the woods?
Woods? Who goes in the woods? I hate nature. Too many icky things.
We have the internet. So I don’t need to watch women’s soccer to see Alex Morgan’s ass.
U.S. Soccer’s board of directors has voted to repeal a 2017 policy that required national team players to stand during the national anthem, a rule adopted after Megan Rapinoe kneeled in support of Colin Kaepernick. …
A person with knowledge of the discussions regarding the policy said new President Cindy Parlow Cone first broached repealing the rule last week, calling for the special meeting of the board. The person asked to remain anonymous because the process was not made public. Three players were invited on the call to share their opinions.
“We have not done enough to listen — especially to our players — to understand and acknowledge the very real and meaningful experiences of Black and other minority communities in our country. We apologize to our players — especially our Black players — staff, fans, and all who support eradicating racism,” U.S. Soccer said in a statement Wednesday. “Sports are a powerful platform for good, and we have not used our platform as effectively as we should have. We can do more on these specific issues and we will.”
Maybe, just maybe, soccer fans don’t want to see political protests while the players are there to do their job and just play the damned sport.
If women’s soccer loses enough viewers, maybe Alex Morgan will become impoverished enough that she’ll have no choice but to supplement her income through porn.
Given that it’s entirely within their right to require the players to stand while they’re on the clock, this is an explicit endorsement of all-protest, all-the-time. The fans can fuck right off if they object, I guess.
What percentage of US Women’s Soccer is funded by taxpayers? I think it is a lot, but have no real idea.
I’d rather they just stop playing the anthem, but if you are playing for a team that is supported by taxpayers, it might be wise to not indulge in protests that will piss off those unwilling patrons.
I don’t think they receive any direct funding, mostly because FIFA rules don’t look kindly on government involvement in national federations.
It’s entirely possible that the member teams of the NWSL get support from local and state governments in the form of stadium deals, etc.
Who cares what the taxpayers think. They will pony up, or get the boot.
I think you mean “and” if we’re being realistic here.
I was actually thinking about this specifically, yesterday. When Kaepernick did it, at least he had a reason to do it. Agree or disagree, he had reasons. By the time Megan is doing it, kneeling has nothing to do with that, and is just a symbol of “I’m a leftwing person”
His reason was that he wanted more money and fame but was a medicore player.
Seems like she had the same reasons, then.
Speaking of that… more proof that Cleveland made a correct decision to fire Hue Jackson. Just when you thought he was just a shitty coach…
I don’t feel great when I have to defend Kaepernick, but he would have won the Browns a few games in a year when they went 0-16.
The entire point was to be as bad as possible to gain significant draft capital.
I disagree – Kaepernick was an attention whore. He and his cohorts had every opportunity to articulate the grievances, and the purpose of their “protest” – the media and others repeatedly asked “what is this about?” but no real response.
It was about some guy named Ray Schism. he’s apparently a total dick.
This will be weird the next time they play the Saudi Arabian women’s team.
I got a Di Paolo ‘goes off on Popovich’ recommendation in my youtube feed.
What did that idiot basketball coach say?
The Zen Scholar to the idiot class on ESPN.
Di Paolo has good rants but he’s a bit too conservative for my tastes. From what I understand the idiot coach said blah blah ashamed to be white blah blah 400 years of oppression standard politibabble horseshit.
Someone should let him know that it’s Ok to be white.
Speaking of court rulings…
What the heck is going on with the Flynn case? The court of appeals ordered judge Sullivan to respond to a writ of mandamus by June 10th. The point was to force immediate action on what they claim is a constitutionally clear duty to dismiss the case. And now …. nothing? Has it just been buried by all the crap? Where the heck are they?
Sullivan’s hired hit judge is pitching a fit about the DOJ being extremely irregular last I heard.
Extorting guilty pleas under threat of the prosecution of family members is “regular” to these assholes.
The rot is apparently very deep.
His team filed so it’s moving at judicial pace – very slowly.
Sigh. So for years after this is shutdown, we’ll get to hear leftists talk about how amici in crminal courts is totally normal (even though it isn’t) because gleeson argued for it (in the most mendacious manner).
Arguments before the DC Court of Appeals are tomorrow. The “amicus” brief was filed and says what the judge asked them to say, so that mess continues.
In not so shocking news

Nope, not shocking at all.
CNN et al. alleging “doctored video out of context” in 3…2…1…
Make note of the upper middle class woman in a high end restaurant. This seems to be common in these videos. They get together to have their haute cuisine lunch with a glass of wine or two while discussing the end of capitalism and how to instigate revolution.
Feels a bit like a nothingburger. The money trail isn’t exposed because Soros donated to that woman years ago. Of course, these groups seek funding but we need to see the link between RefuseFacism, their money people, and pallets of bricks on the streets. This stuff falls short.
Go figure that, when you remove guns from law abiding citizens, that when you allow people to take over a portion of city, the people doing it are going to be the people more amiable to breaking the law.
We have gone from “nobody needs guns, that’s what the police are for” to “disband/defund/abolish the police” in a remarkably short period of time.
Modern day book burners, the lot of them.
Socialism or prosperity, choose one
I think there is something funny about all the young actors from Harry Potter, coming out and telling everyone how JK Rowling is the worst because of her views on womanhood. Like because she said something, if they don’t react, they will be tainted.
I think it’s pathetic. They won’t engage her personally. They owe their careers to her, they won the lottery that she provided, but they’re perfectly willing to stomp on her to satisfy their fans and social acquaintances.
They’re not even willing to come half way to debate it.
You don’t debate Nazis because acknowledging their opinions is giving them a platform and they must be no-platformed.
/prog
I think funny is about it. As wrong as I know it is, I can’t help but remember that she’s feasted herself at the same social justice banquet table. If I figured she’d even learned anything or was at all remorseful about treating others the way she’s being treated now, I’d have some sympathy. But, I see no reason to believe that she has. And, brutal as it sounds, forgiveness demands repentance.
One of the fracture points on the Left is the divide between lib feminists and rad feminists. Rad feminists hold to the reality of biological sex, and believe that you are not a woman if you were born with a penis, that the intrinsic nature of patriarchy means that a man cannot be a woman, just like woke white people can’t become black. Lib Fems are the more mushy muddle headed “feminism means happy things” feminists.
The TERFs are not accepted by the rest of the left anymore. They are, for all practical purposes, on the right. That they agree with little to nothing of the rest of the right is irrelevant.
But, why should the right take them? If the TERFs would happily crucify the right if the leftist mob altered its views just marginally, why should the right stick their neck out for them?
In the current atmosphere, the left gets to pick its associates but the right has to accept the associates it is assigned.
forgiveness demands repentance
This is probably not what you meant, but I read that as “the wokescolds deserve her apology”.
No, it isn’t what I meant.
What I meant was, if I’m going to hold out some feelings of sympathy for Rowling, it should only be after she’s abandoned the wokescold creed herself. Nothing I’ve seen in her behavior suggests to me that if the target of the wokescold mob were a “cis-white-heteropatriarchal man” and not her, she wouldn’t be right up there with the rest of the mob demanding her pound of flesh. Well, this is her standard of justice, let her live it.
Eh, she’s got FU £££ for life.

“Privilege goes into those statistics.”
Signing a ballot is a statement, punishable by law if you commit perjury, that you are the person whose ballot this is. Removing the signature requirement means that it is de facto legal to commit electoral fraud by ballot harvesting, or by filling out someone else’s ballot without them knowing that you have done so … or by voting for dead people.
The DNC Chair is complaining that they can’t openly steal elections.
“The DNC Chair is complaining that they can’t openly steal elections.”
In his position wouldn’t you? He knows he’s got a good chunk of a corrupt judiciary on his side and ~90+% of GOP will back down from criticism if he just calls them a racist. Find whatever weakness your enemy has and exploit it to the fullest.
He’s implicitly admitting that the people too careless or stupid to sign their ballots are predominantly Democrats.
Likewise for those that cannot obtain an ID.
What kind of corrections can you make? Can you change “your” vote? Who validates it?

A declining population, especially in rural areas, can make for some really cheap homes. They can actually have a negative value if the structure is useless when you compute the removal costs. Japan also has a “new is better” culture when it comes to homes and homes and older homes are frequently torn down and replaced within the owners’ lifetimes.
But I love the old traditional homes.
Expats buy Japanese country house for a song and get way more than they bargained for
My understanding is they are built with an expected 15-20 life span.
Yup. My friend in metro Tokyo just demolished her house of 20 years and rebuilt her “retirement” home on the same lot.
That’s really neat, but a. I am so sick of DIY and b.
No. Just no.
Welcome to the main island of Japan. I don’t get it, but even many homes are essentially uninsulated.
You use localized heat, split ductless heaters and a kotatsu.
wow, what a fire hazard.
heated, singing, integrated bidet toilets, but no insulation and hobo heaters
what a strange place.
They’re electric now, not an open flame. And cost a buttload to ship here from Amazon.
The attitude towards fire is interesting. Lots of poor design choices (crowded rooms, narrow stairs) but planned use of fire resistant materials, public designation of fire refuges/fire resistent districts, standardized labeling of rescue windows, and fire ladders/escape routes in domestic construction through balconies.
I’d be more concerned about CO from the kerosene heaters. Although those seem to be going away.
The lack of insulation is historic. Without AC, or not using it because electricity is expensive, better to give up heat easier during the miserable summer and shoulder season than trap inside like modern American airtight construction.
That looks suspiciously like a fire hazard to me.
If you’re feeling guilty that you’re leaving a disease-infested shithole, then you’re an idiot.
Well, I’m planning my escape and I can’t begin to describe the absolute lack of guilt that I feel over it. The authorities long ago directly said that I wasn’t welcome here because I don’t fully share their political beliefs. My neighbors have said, without a hint of shame that they want certain groups of people (groups I’m a member of) to suffer and even die. And over the last couple of months they’ve systematically begun disassembling anything here that I might find of value.
Guilt? It’s more like “Adios M-F’ers!”
Where do you live?
Right now I’m in Manhattan. Looking to go somewhere in the Southeast. Coastal. Either Georgia, the Carolinas or maybe Virginia.
“maybe Virginia”
Virginia is canceled.
Yup. Do NOT come here. It’s practically New Jersey at this point.
Ah, I used to live there for quite a while on the Lower West side. We moved to North Texas a couple of years after my wife’s office building was blown up by terrorists.
I actually enjoyed the hell out of it when I was young. Super fun city with a lot of energy.
Every time I visit now, though, my friends that still live there depress me a bit. I basically live in 5000 square foot mansion now that’s the same basic price as the little box they still live in.
I live in a very nice 4,000 square foot house in Texas that is worth many hundreds of thousands less than the 1,000 square foot starter house I own near San Francisco. Along with a huge majority of people who also fled Blue states, judging by the car license plates as they first move in to the development.
One of things I love about here too is the car. I didn’t have one when I lived in NY. Man do people ever take those for granted.
Before I had a car, I always felt trapped wherever I was, since I was dependent upon someone else to get anywhere or had to go for a protracted hike through areas I didn’t exactly feel safe traversing.
Yeah, what I can get elsewhere is a big component of my decision.
And it was great when I was young. I met my late wife here. I met my current fiance.
But, if I were young right now? I’m not so sure I’d be interested. All of the energy is getting sapped. All of the fun is getting wound down. Now, I live in a city where I’m told that I have to spend my life in that little box. And even when it opens up, all of the fun things are going to be put in their own tiny little boxes. If they can manage to stay open under those circumstances (I know a bar I sometimes go to pays $25k/month in rent,; opening up, they can only be at half capacity). Now they’re saying they won’t even bother to protect me. And I’m not allowed to protect myself.
I could see that totally. I was just reading my New Yorker friends’ Facebook posts and thinking that’d be the worst place to be right now.
When I first came to the states, I lived in north Jersey but spent a chunk of time in Manhattan, Harlem, Brooklyn and loved it. I moved to a very tiny town in Montana and missed city life almost every day. But, then, I was back in NYC for a week or so and felt overwhelmed by the crowds. Still the best city in the world, but I don’t think I could live there.
Now we’re in a mid-sized city in flyover country and it’s kind of our Goldilocks zone.
Moving out of Manhattan solved most of those issues for me.
So something i was thinking about yesterday. Some of you have talked about how even keeping your head down doesn’t seem to be safe, as not saying anything is taken to mean you are a racist. You are not allowed to “not play” the game of politics. This isn’t unanticipated. Still one of the most despicable things i’ve seen on TV is when Don Lemon was interviewing the black pastor. When the pastor refused to criticize Trump, Lemon immediately switched to a tact of destroying the pastor. They even updated the description to say “Controversial Pastor”. You either play along, or get destroyed was the message.
What disturbs me most of all is they are doing well right now. Donald Trump is even losing popularity among his base.
I would be fine with it if everyone was laughing at how stupid and evil they are.
Sheeple gonna sheep.
Source?
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_trump_job_approval-6179.html
All polls basically.
You have to do a deep dive into some of those polls’ demographics, though, to see that even his base is now caving.
Which is troubling because Trump and his advisers may decide one way to get the base back is to “get tough on the criminals in the streets.” And not in a reasonable, target the violence way.
Trumps been cut off from his rallies for months now. That’s why hes losing ground. He needs those rallies for the two way communication they provide him. That’s how he taps into the silent majority. He throws shit out, sees how the crowd responds, alters and trims and finds the red meat.
Hes spent three months in the White House with Jared fucking Kushner whispering into his ear.
The propaganda machine is strong, unfortunately.
They’re definitely playing for keeps. They’ve moved beyond the lies of omission to outright propaganda and shutting down debate.
They run the very real risk of inspiring an actual reactionary movement, which would be good for nobody.
Don’t go on CNN. In fact, don’t talk to the media, EVER.
I’d like to see someone agree to be on, and when they go live start hammering the presenter with questions, then when challenged go “I thought you wanted to be on my podcast to tell people about your arthouse satire channel, but if you’re not going to take this interview seriously, we’re done.”
That would be pointless, even counterproductive, unless it were live.
They exercise very heavy editorial discretion.
There’s a reason “when they go live” is in the first sentence. I’m just wondering how quick on the draw the engineer is with cutting microphones.
Also, bring your own camera and post the unedited cut online.
“I hear I’m a racist now, Father!”

…always a safe bet
I don’t think I’ve ever seen him on TV.
I’ve only seen a couple of his top hits of Faux News. He’s a real piece of work.
Classic Don Lemon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpVd7k1Uw6A
Was he seriously asking if a black hole was the cause? Or was it a rhetorical question badly phrased?
So a group sued the municipal courts in Hamilton county to force them to start hearing cases, and the courts avoided the suit by reopening. Now our beloved Democrats in the Statehouse just amended a bill to extend the tolling of every deadline and calculation until July 30, 2020. (tolling is legalese for a timeout in filing and limitations deadline calculations, basically all deadlines get extended). If it passes the courts will be ‘open’ but the time people have to respond, to leave premises,or whatever step of the process they are in won’t even start running until July 31. I am really moving from disagreement to outright hatred.
Taxes are the price you pay for a
civilized societygroup that refuses to give any of the services they say only they can provide. So you couldn’t even file a complaint or serve process?
Really? Because our courts have been “shut down”, but that kind of paperwork has never been affected. And if you can file a complaint and serve it, there’s no reason to extend the statute of limitations.
You can file it, they don’t have to answer it until late August. To be clear the amendment didn’t create the tolling it just extended it to July 30. Previously in the bill it was July 30 or the end of the state of emergency whichever came first. The tolling of statutes doesn’t make sense to me either, but I think it is just them being dramatic and tolling EVERYTHING. Effectively they have made Mar 9, 2020 though July 30, 2020 the time that was not!
Attention: You’re not off the hook for being racist, but we need to pivot back to coronavirus at this moment.

“Stocks fell sharply on Thursday as coronavirus cases increased in some states that are reopening up from lockdowns.”
Pffftttt… they fell because the Fed said there is a limit to what it is willing to do.
The Fed is the stock market right now.
Nobody could explain why the stock market continued to climb so somehow I don’t trust their explanations of why it fell, either.
I had some tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella for diner and only after I noticed on the container it was 3 days after the expiration date. So if I am never heard from again, you know what got me.
Which one was “expired”?
The dates are rough estimates, and a working sense of smell/taste will tell you if the product is still good far better than something printed on a label.
It was mozzarella in brine or whatever the liquid it comes in is never really thought about it. It tasted like any mozzarella in brine.

I once heard an interview with Lou Reed, in which he stated that New York was the superior place to live because everything moves so fast. If a lot of New Yorkers share that superiority complex (and I think they do), it explains a lot including the “survivors guilt” thing.
Feh. It’s no different here than anywhere else. You just hear about it more.
In fact, it’s quite the opposite. For example: NYC routinely exhibits higher percentages of people who want to leave than elsewhere.
In my brief time in Southern California my friend (who actually WAS from there) told me that nobody’s from So Cal. The number of native Californians you meet is dwarfed by people from other states, usually back east. Based on my entirely anecdotal experience, it seems like NYC is a little like that, too, just less so. A lot of people I knew in high school moved to NYC to do cool hipster things. Conversely, I seem to meet a lot of people from NYC who love it and then spend most of their time somewhere else, for some reason…
Conversely, I seem to meet a lot of people from NYC who love it and then spend most of their time somewhere else, for some reason…
I meet periodically with a team of insurance experts based in San Francisco. When we talk about San Francisco, its interesting to me that all the reasons that they list for staying there aren’t actually in San Francisco. Its close to what they like – Napa Valley, etc. – but they never say anything good about the city itself.
I have no clue why anyone would feel guilty about leaving a place. Guilt implies you did something wrong; feeling like you are doing something wrong by simply relocating seems like mental illness. Not saying it’s unique to NYC, I think it’s unhealthy no matter what.
I bet this court ruling on Minneapolis’ sick pay ordinance really helps boost rebuilding efforts.
Minneapolis has an ordinance that requires workers in the city to get paid sick time. The court case was whether that ordinance applied only to businesses in the city or to any business that had employees in the city. The court said that it applied to all businesses.
I am wondering how many construction companies are going to look at that ruling and realize that they now have to provide paid sick time to the workers rebuilding the looting? Of course, all they are going to do is up their rates and pass along the costs to the tax payers.
And you wonder why Mpls gave birth to the BS we see today.
“I’m not unemployed, I’m on sick leave, sick of working for The Man for $15 an hour while he leeches off my back. And I want the extra $600 a week in there too plus an extension”
So, a full time employee who works 80 hours a week in Minneapolis will get 67 hours of sick leave, presumably regardless of where the employer is based – Texas or even a foreign country.
Makes perfect sense. If I am sending somebody to Minneapolis for two weeks, I will double my rates for their time, because that’s now my actual cost for them. That 67 hours of sick time is booked as a deferred liability, after all. And I’m sure there’s a couple of pages of regulation on administering the sick time – what it can be used for, whether it stacks on regular PTO, what kind of paperwork (if any) I can require to confirm somebody is sick, whether it carries over from year to year, whether it accumulates from year to year, etc.
a full time employee who works 80 hours a week
Way to shitlord!
No one wants to spend more than a week in Minneapolis, and it takes 80 hours to trigger.
What the heck is “sick & safe time”??
You can claim the “sick” time if you are afraid to go to work because you might catch teh ‘Vid there?
Because the riots?
Leon, up there, said something about Trump losing. Some of us think he will win in a landslide and others think he could well lose. So if he loses, who becomes the new face of the Republican Party? Pence? Paul? Cotton? Goldwater lost but remained a Senator and the GOP became even more his party. Trump will be gone, gone gone.
Given the way the Ds have been going what makes you think there will be a Republican party if they win it all? Trotsky will be its face.
Yup, if the Dems re-gain control they will rig things so that the Republicans can never get it back. And if anyone had said that to me 3 years ago I would have thought they were crazy.
They already have the model in CA. Change the primaries, change the election system, lock out anyone not a Repub.
I have absolutely no doubt that is what they would do. Might take awhile, but its clear the Dems regard any Repub office holder as illegitimate and want a none-party socialist state.
I’ve seen it coming since King Zero. Even though there have been radical elements in the Jackasses for 100 years, he represented a radicalization of the base. Behind all his flowery bullshit and meaningless pablum lurked a Weather Undergrounder. I knew then it was just a matter of time before they gained power again and wore down the populace and the institutions. Their explicitly stated goal for at least 15 years has been absolute, permanent power and no compromise by any means necessary. Trump was a speedbump. Even if Trump wins again (which at this point I think is 50/50) once he’s gone some Dem will win just because of the pendulum nature of politics and ram down mandatory mail-in ballots. Once that’s done, Kung Flu has taught us that once an executive declares a “state of emergency” he instantly transforms into a monarch; they’ll use that to implement green new deal bullshit, campaign finance reform, union reform, gun control, pretty much their entire wet dream wishlist.
TL;DR – we’re fucked.
In my mind, it truly is a question of when, not whether.
In my most cynical moments, I wonder if I shouldn’t start building up some cred with the Dem Party. Because in my lifetime, I believe we the government will become a one-party state determined on radical transformation of society.
Maybe that was Reason’s strategy and they’re just ahead of the game.
Viktor Komarovsky agrees.
I never thought I’d miss the Bush Jr. administration. I didn’t vote for Obama either time either.
(+1 pleonastic redundancy)
Trump changed the party, new Trumpian yootz would rise up IMO.
Goldwater lost but remained a Senator and the GOP became even more his party.
It did? I’m not much of a student of late ’60s party politics, but Nixon doesn’t seem like who a Goldwater party would nominate next chance they got.
Well it did take a while. Like RC Dean posits for Trump, the Goldwater yutes worked their way into power, culminating with Reagan’s election.
Even if the GOP is eventually destroyed, someone or some philosophy will control it in the meantime. Do we really think the only way to push back against Democratic hegemony will be armed revolt?
Do we really think the only way to push back against Democratic hegemony will be armed revolt?
Once they achieve the traditional one-party leftist state by means of electoral corruption, what options are there?

I did say if. though i’ll admit i don’t think the cards look very good for Trump.
I think there are quite plausible scenarios where the Dems have control of both houses of Congress and the Presidency after this election. As Don reminds us, Trump barely won last time. A few swing states go the other way, and its the Dem’s White House. And since its not who votes that counts, its who counts the votes, and the Dems have urban machines in swing states, well, you do the math.
Why do you think I’m spending money I really would rather not spend stocking up on ammo, and maybe another gun or two?
