Peach Pie Edition of the Sunday Night Open Post

I was busy making my famous peach pie, perhaps the favorite pie of all time for OMWC. So, I just noticed that nobody had done a darn thing to provide a new blank slate for your snarking and commenting pleasure.

Commence comments!

I've got an idea! How about we just stick to the Constitution as written and then the government can leave me the fuck alone.

Mmmm, peach pie is one of the best sorts, with freshly whipped cream on top, yum.

To all the California Glibs out there, there is a new recall effort to get rid of Greasy Gav. I’m printing off some of these and keeping them in my work truck to get those that are amenable to sign it to do so. I figure I can get at least twenty people over the next month or so.

Oakland checking in – absolutely signing this. Thanks!

Nice that Gov Loathsome managed to keep his winery open this holiday while closing most others.

      • KSuellington

The man is an utter scumbag. This effort seems a bit better organized than the last one. I would be very, very happy to see that asshole sent packing.

I lived in Oaktown for a couple years, between 580 and downtown, fun times there then at the beginning of the millennium.

      • DEG

I don’t live in California and I’d also like to see him sent packing.

      • Digby Says Invest in Malden

So much this. He seems to be the archetype of the politician that inspired the concept of political assassination.

/note to the ever-so-smart Fed types–I said he’s like whoever that politician is, not that he should get “it”

      • KSuellington

He is not only politically reprehensible, but personally as well. I know someone whose brother worked for him for years. He has a number of stories of his douchebaggery.

    • Chipping Pioneer

Which action star do you think he should be replaced with?

      • KSuellington

        Kurt Russell would be nice.

      • pistoffnick

        I’d vote for Snake Plissken

      • egould310

        I heard he was dead?!?

      • Raven Nation

What happened to Snark Plissken from TOS?

    • Mostly Peaceful JaimeRoberto

Not gonna happen. He’s so dreamy. He has the white woman vote. I was at a party in SF when he was mayor, and the ladies were talking about him. They practically slid off their chairs they were so aroused by him.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

I signed the other day outside Walmart.

Meh: a sinister self-cancelling kind of handsome, like Tom Cruise.

I just signed the petition this weekend.

“Free Douglass of his chains of bronze!”

    • Rhywun

      I don’t get it.

I wonder if Douglass High School will change its name. Maybe someone can go shit on his grave, too.

      • Chafed

It could be another group of completely ignorant rioters who tore it down.

  5. The Late P Brooks

Peach pie was a euphemism my ex and I used.

    Mmmmm, peach pie….

  6. Rebel Scum

If Christmas season can be for more than a month, Independence Day can occupy a whole weekend (especially since this my summer vaca week.). So let’s rock out.

    • Rebel Scum

I took it to be in the tradition of having an intimidating mascot. But this is interesting and I shall read it tomorrow. (I’m three sheets to the wind, so bare with me.)

      • whiz

I am NOT taking my clothes off.

    • whiz

I mentioned in the dead thread that they should keep the name and change their mascot to a red-skinned potato.

      • Count Potato

        RACIST!!!!!

    • Rebel Scum

Someone doesn’t understand what “created equal” means in the context of the D.o.I. And I defy this limey bastard to try to enforce his vision. We already beat you twice. We already saved you twice. You are the cuckiest cucks that ever cucked as things currently stand. So fuck off.

      • DEG

At the time the article was written, we hadn’t beaten them.

The channel is made up of videos of primary sources read off. So, the magazine article he’s reading was written contemporary to the Declaration of Independence.

      • Rebel Scum

At the time the article was written, we hadn’t beaten them.

I got that. And since then…the limey bastard and his lousy, cucked compatriots can kindly fuck off.

      • Digby Says Invest in Malden

Well, we can see the seeds of their current mess, if the author of that drivel was in any way a leader in the UK.

  7. Gustave Lytton

Went to put some clothes away in the closet and found army memorabilia came out of god knows where just sitting there. One of these.

It’s apparently been superseded after over thirty years, by a GTA that’s now 17 years old. Damn. Where did the time go?

I think most babies are pretty ugly, not just white ones. I mean you extrude your head through that small opening, your face is gonna get rearranged.

      • Chipwooder

Which is why my kids were such good-looking babies – both were c-sections

    • Digby Says Invest in Malden

      Pffft….now, do criminality.

      /Ducks & runs away

  8. Jarflax

I just got an ad for non-alcoholic bourbon on facebook. Facebook has gone too far and must be shut down.

    • Count Potato

      WTF is non-alcoholic bourbon?

      • slumbrew

        An abomination unto the Lord

  9. Rebel Scum

Grumpy, old man. But the criticism is legit.

  10. Digby Says Invest in Malden

I hate to say it, but, at least some of the criticisms within are valid

I say this, because, it streaming on Disney+ is being hyped like it’s a friggin Marvel/Star Wars/Transformers/He-man/James Bond crossover “event”. Holy shit, maybe the idea of it being aimed at white liberals leftists is correct.

    • slumbrew

Perhaps it makes me a troglodyte, but I can think of few things I’m less interested in watching than Hamilton.

I’ve zero interest in musicals in general.

(I did, however, enjoy the heck out of the production of Don Giovanni I saw, so maybe I’m just to high fallutin for musicals)

      • Digby Says Invest in Malden

I have none, either. The wife, though…she thought it was grand, and watched it twice this weekend (at least).

        Whatevs…

      • Chafed

I saw it on Broadway. I’m generally not a fan of musicals. It was something special. For this crowd, it requires setting aside your personal politics in some measure. If you can do that, the singing is impressive, some of the lyrics (particularly for King George) are very clever, and it is moving.

      • Digby Says Invest in Malden

I’ll still pass. But, I brought you a peace offering.

      • Chafed

I admit I thought it was going to be WASP.

That is one weird video. I’m missing the self-defense part.

      • Digby Says Invest in Malden

Hey–an own is an own, even if it’s a self-own/metabolism own.

Plus, the not-quite-dragging-him-in-the-car part is HI-larious.

      • slumbrew

Politics aside, I (mostly?) don’t enjoy the entire genre. I hesitate to go full-on “musicals are dumb” and yet, that is my inclination. I think I’m just wired differently.

(checks some Hamilton clips, checks some Book Of Mormon clips).

Yep, you’d have to pay me.

      • Digby Says Invest in Malden

Yeah, I don’t mind fully going there. I cannot stand watching people sing/dance their way through a story being told, especially on a stage (not my favorite medium by a long shot). Not that people don’t sing in their lives, but, as the shtick that drives the narrative, no thank you.

    • grrizzly

I recall I tried to find a way to watch it on the cheap on Broadway. That was 4-6 years ago. Now I’m not even interested in spending $10 or $8 on it. Am I supposed to be enthralled that every white protagonist is played by a person of color?

  11. straffinrun

Ummm, I’ve had an article pending since late June.

    • Dr. Fronkensteen

The one about the 14 year old?

    • Raven Nation

Did you hit “Submit for Review”?

      • straffinrun

Think so. It says “pending” under status.

      • Raven Nation

        OK, that’s all I got.

      • TARDIS

Does it also say, “Awaiting Interpol interrogation”?

      • Raven Nation

Oh wait, SP does most of the formatting for posting and she was on the road last week.

      • SP

        “Most”

        LOLOLOLOL

Yes, I was on the road for nearly 3 weeks, and yet, I still kept the site work going and the site online. Which was made easier by very few people writing anything lately. 😉

      • Digby Says Invest in Malden

        ::whistles past the graveyard::

    • SP

Dude. You created it under the wrong section.

I just found it in “Projects” not “Posts.” We don’t use Projects. So I never look in there.

Want to take a crack at moving it yourself? Otherwise, I will have time in a couple days.

      • straffinrun

Oops. Sorry, SP. Thought I’d done it correctly.

  12. Gustave Lytton

    https://komonews.com/news/local/crowd-honors-memory-of-protester-killed-on-i-5-state-patrol-issues-warning

And it also has prompted a warning from the Washington State Patrol that anyone who tries to protest on I-5 will be arrested from now on.

    About fucking time.

Kelete was stopped and arrested about two miles away on I-5. Troopers said that he was “reserved and appeared sullen,” and at one point asked if the protesters that were hit were OK.

What an asshole, asking if they were ok. “Reserved and sullen”.. or “in shock and panicked at what just happened and what’s going to happen to him”. Oh, he was 2 miles away. So at freeways speeds, less than 2 minutes from what happened and appropriate distance from a mob.

Troopers did not know whether it was a targeted attack

But let’s not stop us from speculating.

    Also missing, driver’s race/ethnicity….

    • Raven Nation

Is this the guy that was already fleeing cops when he got to the barricades on the interstate?

    • straffinrun

      But Charlottesville!

    • The Last American Hero

It wasn’t a white dude and he didn’t have a Hawaiian shirt on. I know this because of what was left out of the article.

      • Gustave Lytton

        Exactly.

      • Tejicano

Well, they did include the driver’s name: Dawit Kelete. Google that for images and you have your answer.

      • The Last American Hero

So it was the racist white car that committed the crime.

      • The Last American Hero

Google doesn’t list how he identifies. Race is a social construct.

    • slumbrew

“Rich black kid kills white women with car” doesn’t fit the narrative

      • Gustave Lytton

Whoa! She was non-binary! Don’t forget that part.

      • Chafed

It was fun watching Grifter Sen. Kamala Harris get corrected for using the wrong pronouns. They/them. That’s the really important part in all of this.

      • TARDIS

That woman thing is truly devoid of decency and morality, isn’t she?

The kowtowing is disgusting. I would love to see her get cancelled by the mob.

      • Plinker762

In the end we are binary. On/Off

  13. Count Potato

I shouldn’t have taken a nap after that big cheeseburger, because I won’t be able to fall asleep now.

  14. straffinrun

My kid hates school. She was all dejected again this morning as she left. As I was prepping for work, all I could think of was how miserable she looked. Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore. I called the school and said I’d be picking her up before lunch. “Yes, she wasn’t feeling well this morning.” My total BS excuse.

I picked her up and she was thrilled. I was hoping she’d finish elementary school and then we’d fork out for a private school. Half a year more. Ugh.

    • Chafed

Sorry dude. I hope private school is cheaper in Japan than in the US.

      • straffinrun

Looking at around 10k a year. Fuck it, it’s worth it. Just pisses me off to essentially being paying for both.

      • RegicidalManiac

For what it’s worth, getting me out of our crappy public school is one of the things I still thank my parents for decades later. It prevented me from associating learning with utter boredom at best and pain at worst, and that’s crucial.

      • straffinrun

        Makes sense. Thx.

    • Q Continuum

Is home schooling a thing in Nippon?

      • straffinrun

Not really an option for us. I’ll look into again, though.

    • Digby Says Invest in Malden

Also, does she have anything going on at school, that you are aware of? Like, problem teachers, kids, etc.?

      • straffinrun

No bullying. We’re really close and talk about all that stuff. She hates the strict group mentality. Wonder where she got that from?

      • Digby Says Invest in Malden

Good! Also, we await her Glibs application.

        “We” being not-me.

    • Gustave Lytton

      Damn. Sorry.

I have to say, I’m consistently impressed by the glibs’ parenting. Everyone has challenges, both personal and the current suck, and I have yet to read of anyone saying “fuck it, me first” but have read a lot of sacrifices being made for a better future for their kids. Thank you all.

      • straffinrun

Honestly, I don’t feel like a good parent. I should’ve gotten her out of there sooner.0)0?

      • Digby Says Invest in Malden

On the one hand, that feeling is a good sign, since there is, technically, always room for improvement. On the other, you’re still doing what is good for her, and she’s not in danger (apparently). Trying to find what fits her personality means you’ve got the fundamentals down. So, don’t feel bad.

      • Gustave Lytton

        What Dig said.

Have seen first hand that guilt and regret attach when things to happen to the kids, even if there wasn’t anything done wrong and tried the best.

      • straffinrun

        Thx, guys.

      • Digby Says Invest in Malden

Ahh–you’re a good ‘un. You spoil that girl with “education”, and “food and shelter”.

      • Don Escaped the Quality Department

A steady trend I’ve seen in parenting:

The best lack all conviction, while the worst
        Are full of passionate intensity.

Another payroll day, and the head honchos have indeed come up with A Little Something for those of us who’ve been dragging our butts into the office every day for the past 3+ months: a buck an hour for every “Regular” hour (as opposed to “Working Remotely”) worked in the 2nd quarter (plus a flat dollar amount for the salaried supervisors below the level of VP who’ve likewise been onsite.) I guess I could’ve gotten another 72 bucks if I hadn’t taken Vacation for the two weeks leading up to Memorial Day, but it was totally worth it.

    • Sean

      Nice!

    Peach cobbler > Peach pie

Most of our local peach crop was offed by a late frost. I am bummed.

    • Gender Traitor

I don’t know how this year has been for our local fruit farms. I miss our neighborhood farmers’ market. : (

      • westernsloper

I think the farmers market in the “big city” (50 miles) is back up and running but the local ones I haven’t heard a thing about. I need to check into that. I know one grower has a sign up that an earlier frost offed his cherries but most of the peaches made it. We don’t start seeing local peaches until late July/Aug. Most of the fruit stands have not opened yet which I don’t remember seeing before. I did see the sweet corn guy was out this weekend which is early. Weird year.

      • Gender Traitor

I finally went snooping around on Facebook, and sure enough – our neighborhood farmers’ market has been canceled for the whole year.

        2020 sucks.

    • Tres Cool

A late frost here took out my tomatoes, but 1 struggled back, managed to bloom, and yesterday I counted around 8 ‘maters on it.

      • Festus' Mustache

Excess rain and damp has done killed our lettuce. Today was pleasant but still only just a tidge over 70 American. We haven’t had a whiff of summer yet.

      • westernsloper

We are supposed to hit 100 today. Perfect!

      • Fourscore

…and here we’re in a drought. Apparently my tomatoes got a little too much fertilizer, huge, healthy plants, lotsa blossoms, no little ‘maters. Rest o’ the garden looks great, glad I put in a garden well when I was Threescore, could never do it now….

      • westernsloper

I was late getting my plants in as usual. Procrastinator. Out of three plants I think I have about 8 green ones on. Hopefully got rid of the blossom end rot that took the first big Roma.

      • Festus' Mustache

We had about half of the property given over to gardens when we first moved in 24 years ago. Now it’s just boxes and small plots. After the kids moved away there wasn’t any need to grow that much food. Now it’s herbs and beans and such. Still have the raspberries and the triffids (horseradish) in the back. Judi grows flowers but we don’t take it all that seriously anymore.

      • Sean

Japanese beetles were attacking our plants, so my gf sprayed some stuff on the plants. The plants were not happy. I had to cut a bunch of ruined leaves of my pepper plants. ?

    • Festus' Mustache

We don’t get peaches this far North but Apple cobbler > Apple pie.

  21. Festus' Mustache

I can’t remember who linked that Toadies song the other day but thanks! It has gone into the rotation. How the heck did I miss out on that band? They were right in my wheelhouse at the time. Good Morning Glibertaria!
