Another week passes, bringing me 7 days closer to my conversion into a rotting carcass. And everything gets more and more nuts. And not the delicious, crunchy kind.
But as nuts as it is, there’s still birthdays, including one of our spiritual grandfathers; an actual icon; the godfather of modern jazz; a piece of shit who had issues with flying; Gabby Gifford’s spirit animal; a guy who was a very good third baseman but had the misfortune to follow…; the subject of one of my favorite songs; and the best Supreme Court justice in my lifetime.
And, let’s see exactly HOW nutty shit has gotten:
Two sets of people I never believe are attorneys for the victim’s family and the police union.
Why do I have utter contempt for Reform Judaism? This is why I have utter contempt for Reform Judaism.
Well, there’s so many industries and businesses fucked up because of COVID, but this is just too goddam much.
NOOOOOO!!!!! GODDAMMIT, NOW THEY’VE GONE TOO FAR!!!!
Old Guy Music was a local cult hero when I was a teen. Fuck, what an amazing player.
Not the Ostrich Festival!
I’m sure AIJesus wouldn’t approve, but I still don’t believe.
Cancel Culture is out of control.
Did you ever hear Buchanan do “Hey Joe” ? Its some good stuff.
Mornin’.
Yes, and in person.
Boker tov!
AI Jesus is watching you masturbate.
I always perform better in front of an audience
“Hey AI Jesus, if you’re gonna sit there and watch, would it be too much trouble to bring up some disgusting porn? Much obliged.”
Am I a horrible person for laughing at the Darwin’s finches illustration?
No, you’re just horrible.
Well I’m here, so that’s a given.
You’d be much more horrible if you laughed at the main page image.
I would never admit to laughing at that one.
*looks at main page*
*blinks*
(Goes to see what picture is) OY VEY!

Dude…
I had to do a triple-take to figure it out. Then I cringed bigly.
Gah!
? Even my Aryan mother would not laugh at that.
I wasted a couple of moments trying to figure out which band used that as an album cover. Then I read the byline.
Darwin’s finches – funny.
Main page – Gott Damn! That’s just . . . so, so wrong.
I had to take a knee.
To the neck? Or the groin?
Old Guy Music…………?
Obligatory. (With a bonus tune for you, Old Man!)
Sorry for the paywall: https://www.wsj.com/articles/cuomo-gets-a-nursing-home-inspection-11598655585 — from the DOJ.
They’re performing a violation of civil rights investigation, correct?
I suppose you’re right. Hope this is fair use:
“Enter the U.S. Justice investigation. Mr. Cuomo accuses the Trump Administration of a political vendetta. But the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act protects nursing home residents, and on March 3 Justice announced a probe to examine long-term facilities with complaints of gross abuse and neglect.
“One question to investigate is whether New York and the other states’ miserly Medicaid payments left nursing homes ill-prepared for the pandemic. Another is whether sick residents were left to die because they were already frail or incapacitated. This is what happened in Sweden, which is why its death rate exceeds that of most European countries.”
(The other states: MI, PA, NJ)
Also, a doctor on the Bee podcast says Medicare mandated the isolation of nursing homes.
Interesting about Sweden, that’s something I didn’t know. If that’s really the case that’s just horrible.
Dr. Tegnell admitted from early on the country made a mistake with the nursing homes.
It’s estimated 80% of their deaths was due to that.
He’s the only public health official to admit the mistake unlike the shitheads in those states and Qc., and Ont.
Admit and fix. And that’s what he did.
Don’t admit you end up trying to hide your mistakes and in this case, behind excessive draconian measures.
As if Letitia James wasn’t engaging in a political vendetta against Trump.
This issue has quietly been ignored in the local press here.

Who?
Why do I have utter contempt for Reform Judaism? This is why I have utter contempt for Reform Judaism.”
I really don’t get why progressives even want to become leaders in religions they don’t agree with their worldview.
I wonder if their congregation (or whatever the word is) wholly agree with them. Maybe they do, if they attend a Reform synagogue in the first place.
There’s a bit of a theme of small-c conservatives blindly supporting institutions that are run by people who don’t share their values and actively voice support for movements and groups that hate them.
If you’re a conservative type who doesn’t want any sort of revolution, supports the police and law and order, and will generally defend companies and the profit motive, you have to realise eventually that the senior people in the institutions you respect don’t seem to be on your side.
Not that blind support of anything is something to advocate. I just think it’s interesting.
Like the Catholics supporting Democrats?
Yeah, it’s not necessarily a new phenomenon. It just seems to be getting more pronounced.
There are a lot of brands (in the broadest sense) who seem to be taking quite definite and polarising political lines, without much concern about alienating what might otherwise be a solid base for them. They’re often also siding with people who pretty openly loathe them.
It’s not really clear why Gillette thought it was a good idea to base an advert on toxic masculinity, a concept mostly peddled by people who don’t shave. Nike might have got a boost from getting into bed with Kapernick, but they also created a whole group of consumers who will never buy from them ever again. Bezos literally has the left turning up with guillotines outside his house, but he’ll still push their ideology through WaPo and Amazon Prime. There must be people involved in the NFL who understand that this woke shit isn’t going to please at least some fans.
I just don’t understand what’s driving it – it looks like very bad business to me. Have they fired their market research departments because they think Twitter tells them everything? Have they swallowed the idea that the left is on the right side of history, so there will be no dissent in the future? Do they just think there’ll never be an alternative to their product, so right-wingers can suck it?
They want to change the organization’s worldview and rub the current believers’ noses in it.
Re the synagogue graffiti: “What’s happened these last few days is not about us“
Good lord, stand up for yourselves you assholes.
“Good lord, stand up for yourselves you assholes.”
I find myself thinking this quite a lot these days
These are the people that will be surprised when they’re on the firing line. They never see it coming, which amazes me. The left is vocally anti-Semitic now, and it is still played down in the media and all anti-Semitism is layed at Trump’s feet in the press.
NPR is blaming the Kenosha police for not disarming or arresting Kyle Rittenhouse when they interacted with him. NPR stated, ‘if it was a black man with an AR-15 walking up to the police he would have been arrested or shot.’ NPR is full of race baiting POS’s.
Yeah, that’s not true at all. NPR and everyone there can get fucked.
I just re-listened and correction: David Schaper is reporting “people” said those things.
I’m sure some people did say those things but those people are wrong. That’s also a tried and true way to throw out some nonsense while maintaining plausible deniability if called on it.
It’s a rhetorical sleight of hand so sketchy that even Wikipedia proscribes its use.
Here’s the dirty little secret that the progressives will apparently never understand. If you smile, act polite, and don’t dress like a shitbag, you can get away with almost anything, even right in front of the cops.
And yeah, we’re in deep trouble when my introverted ADHD-having self has to call out other people about their social skills.
So… act white? /progressive
Yeah, they understand – they just pretend not to.
“Hey, you said it, proggie, not me. It sounds like you think that all non-whites are a bunch of uncivilized barbarians. Did anyone in your family ever own slaves?”
You want irony? An introvert who practiced social distancing (i always joked ‘social distance’ during flu season) like me who also has some form of ADD finds it a bit much if not depressing. That’s because I know this is not a natural mode of behavior for most people. Humans are naturally SOCIAL.
So I WANT to see social distance return! Let me be unique again!

BTW, this is how I feel when the u-scan self-checkout thingy at works asks me for a donation to whatever the faddish cause of the day is. My Dutch corporate overlords own 3206 supermarkets across 3 continents and in 2019 had a net profit of right around $1.5 billion. They then have the audacity to ask me to chip in to their philanthropy.
They need a mute button on those things. Yes, I know how to scan my own groceries.
I mumble back at it.
Machine – “put your onion in the bagging area”
Hype – “It’s in the fucking bag already”
M – “Scan your next item”
H – “give me a goddamn second, Jesus!”
M – “Enter amount of onions”
H – “Nag nag nag…”
For some reason the lady running the station keeps her distance.
Hey buddy, stop doing that.
H – “and listen bitch, why are you out of my fucking pickles?”
4 jars this week!! but they were out of garlic stuffed olives, I just can’t catch a break.
I don’t mind those nearly as much as the gasoline pump with the little TV screen that blasts out some airheaded pop-tart du jour garbling out some horribly auto-tuned garbage. Just let me pump my damn gas and be on my way!
At the very least, give me the option to tap a button and get some George Strait or something that at least won’t make my ears bleed.
The early version of the annoying gas pumps had a mute button. For some unknown reason that feature was removed from the later versions.
Hard to sell ads with a mute button.
An off switch? Those are illegal.
Pretty good.
A $120,000 hooker they fell in love with.
Great bit.
That’s an unusual way to spell “BLM”.
I’m unsure what Palestine is. However, at that price, I would be foolish to disregard the offer.
Noooo….. you should make them pay YOU to take Palestine. ::thinks on it further:: Ackshually, there’s not enough money in the world to make me take Palestine.
I’m for freeing Palestine but making a random congregation of Jews responsible for Israeli policy seems, I don’t know, a bit bigoted.
Free Palestine from what, exactly? Isn’t it already run by Palestinians?
“Why do I have utter contempt for Reform Judaism? This is why I have utter contempt for Reform Judaism.”
Reminds of the joke about searching for a new Archbishop of Canterbury, but finding one that believes in God has been a problem.
From a Unitarian Universalist parody of “Always True To You In My Fashion”:
When the minister mentions God, half the congregation nods,
And if God gets half a nod, hip hip hooray!
Everybody’s got religion in their fashion, everybody’s got religion in their way.
Good morning, Old Man!
And a good morning to all of my outcast pals of the liberty movement!
Even the craziness of the lynx can’t overwhelm this gorgeous morning! If you like sunshine, 58 degrees with low humidity, of course.
Reform Judaism reminds me a little of my brief foray into the Episcopal Church. What a bunch of losers. If you have no intention of following the example of Jesus, why not just hang it up?
Regarding the SS tax and why Two-Scoops is doing it, I think this paragraph gives a hint:
He’s got the fucking laser pointer out again and the dems are chasing the light all over the living room. He isn’t gonna torpedo SS and Medicare (although he should).
Old Guy Music is wonderful! Lots of ’70s goodness up on that stage. Especially the Avocado Green bass. Groovy, man.
I hope you all have a great day. I’m going to stop being angry for a bit and try to let some of this bullshit pass me by. Rage seems unhealthy.
*looks outside*
No sunshine, mid-seventies, 93% humidity. Storms brewing.
*returns to bed*
We’re getting what’s left of the hurricane.
Ah.
Tomorrow looks nice. Can it be tomorrow now?
My daily question/request.
My daily request is “Can it be October now?” I can’t expect the weather to be bearable until then.
I was talking to my friend in Nagoya last night and she noted it was going to be 37 (in whatever those foreign units are) on Sunday.
So 37 being just above freezing here in ‘Merica I don’t see what your issue is.
37 C would be 99 F
This is one of the things that you really have to get a handle on when learning another language where they use different units than what you are accustomed to. I was lucky in that being an engineer I already had a good understanding of metric units for temps and units of measure like meters and liters. Of course there’s always the Dollar/Yen rate which is always fluctuating. After a while you pick up some rough equivalents to convert most of this on the fly.
If I didn’t come through I was agreeing with you!
I’ve felt sorry for my friends in 日本.
I’ve no issue with using metric units.
What I do HAVE issues with is MF’ing “man” unit or 10k.
Not only do I have translate language in my head, but I need to change my “mental grouping” of the number.
So for everyone else in English we’d say ONE million. In Japanese we’d say ONE HUNDRED 10k Units.
Yeah, getting used to the “Man” system takes a little work.
You can take solace in how the standard measurement of floorspace for real estate advertisements and transactions is the traditional Tsubo which convert precisely (or close enough) to 36 SQFT/Tsubo.
61 and light rain here. It is glorious. I can’t remember the last time I saw water fall from the sky and make it to the ground.
I just went outside to the stairwell and it looks like, at 10 PM, the temperature has dipped below 90F with 70% humidity.
It doesn’t seem so bad if you spent all day outside.
Grey, raining and 57 degrees outside. Any other bright thoughts champ?
Some people will say anything.
“But I would never say such a thing”
Impotent stuttering outrage
Unlike most of the speakers during the week, Trump did not ignore the disease that has killed 180,000 Americans or speak of it in the past tense. But he cast it as less than central to the moment, a kind of speed bump for his parade of triumphs: “We are meeting this challenge,” he said proudly, “delivering lifesaving therapies and we will produce a vaccine before the end of the year or maybe even sooner.”
Few experts have seen a realistic possibility of a vaccine that would be regarded as safe by year’s end, let alone sooner. But in recent weeks the White House has barred TV appearances by such figures as Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s longtime leading immunologist, who has contradicted the president without criticizing him.
——-
As he followed Vice President Mike Pence on stage in Charlotte, Trump was greeted with chants of “four more years.” He replied: “If you want to really drive them crazy you say: ‘Twelve more years.’ ”
The president did not explain how a four-term presidency might happen, given the constitutional limit of two terms set by the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution halfway through the 20th century.
——-
But in that hour in Charlotte, the president was loose and very much among friends. His language veered beyond informal to crude at times, but no one in the hall seemed to mind. The shouts of “we love you” and “thank you, Mr. President,” were recurrent, persistent and well-amplified to be clearly audible on TV.
——-
This Republican gathering was sui generis, a creature unto itself, unlike any preceding convention either party held since such gatherings began in the 1830s. The Democrats the week before had met almost entirely online, but the Republicans managed to perform before live audiences that were small but vocal and highly enthusiastic.
The overnight reviews split along partisan lines as sharply, and predictably, as the votes on impeachment in Congress last winter. It is hard to remember now that President Trump is the only president ever to face the voters after being impeached (or forced from office under threat of impeachment).
But if that was any inhibition for him, it did not show. It was not in his prepared remarks, but he again asserted in his concluding speech that “Obama and Biden spied on me and got caught” – an allusion to his explanation for the investigation of his ties to Russian interference in the 2016 election. Multiple investigations have yet to find evidence to prove this accusation.
It is unbearable to them that there are those among us who do not despise him as they do. It is unfathomable to them.
“Multiple investigations have yet to find evidence to prove this accusation”
If you only count a confession as evidence….
Epic troll.

It’s working already.
But he cast it as less than central to the moment
By a remarkable coincidence, a friend on FB had shared this. The need for drama – and is the above anything but a dramatic statement?
I took it and scored a 12.
“The president did not explain how a four-term presidency might happen, given the constitutional limit of two terms set by the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution halfway through the 20th century.”
Maybe the Vice President who is yet to ever run for the Presidency can explain it to you.
Imagine I closed the italics tags before the last two sentences.
It worked! I can imagine it just fine.
*Scrolls down*
Never mind. Sneaky edit fairy. How come we never see them anymore? I miss the
plumpcurvy one. What has seemed to concern the president more is the dislocation the pandemic has caused in the economy, which crashed in March. The Gross Domestic Product for the second quarter fell by nearly a third (on an annualized basis) and unemployment soared to nearly 15%. Both measures were the worst since the Great Depression. Aggrieved by the shutdown of schools and workplaces, Trump began saying “the cure cannot be worse than the disease.”
Outrageous. What a monster. The man’s clearly unfit and unqualified.
The official (never mind actual) unemployment rate in NYC ranges from 20% to 25%. It’s a good thing Deblasio doesn’t give a shit about that… right, NPR?
Why do I have utter contempt for Reform Judaism? This is why I have utter contempt for Reform Judaism.
I don’t remember the progressive infiltration being so intense 20 years ago. We’ve looked at a few temples at possible relocation sites (for the great VA exodus) and I’m appalled at the degree that Reform temples have basically become bastions of the Democrat party.
Religiously, we’re much more aligned with Reform (really just looking for social/cultural things for the kids) but it appears that won’t be possible.
I always thought that Reform gave up the culture, but kept the religion, sort of the opposite of my preferences.
I did a Jewsday a couple years back on the congregations near us in Illinois and why I couldn’t join any of them because of their focus on political activism.
In my neck of the woods – the biggest complainers about anti-semitism are non-observant reformed Jews.
The actually observant Jews here will wish you a “Merry Christmas” and alternatively not freak out should a Christian accidentally do the same to them.
Yes. This.
I used to chuckle internally because the conversations would almost always go:
Observant Co-workers and friends “Merry Christmas”
Me; “Thanks, enjoy the holiday”.
Kind of the reverse of the “Happy Holiday” thing from the vocal “non observant” group.
Maybe culture was the wrong term. I mean things like a Purim festival but not wearing a kippah or keeping Kosher. I don’t think I can ever sit through another religious service again (excluding a seder at home) but would like the kids to attend fun Purim, Hanukkah, Sukkot events with other kids.
That pick and choose model (hold the services but attend social events) seems more acceptable in the Reform community, but it’s just too political.
hold the services
I realized hold could be interpreted either way. Meant skip the services.
I have to say, I really enjoyed the Glibs Zoom/Booze meetup last night. Wish I could have stayed a little longer. One of these nights I’ll try to get Mrs. Animal to attend.
It’s a great venue, and a reminder of what an exceptional group of people we have here.
Swiss was drunk enough for all of us.
And I was too busy making dinner to really add to the conversation, sorry.
I have to stop going to happy hour(s) at the bar before joining.
I was too drunk to join.
I was only there for a bit before my phone died, but Swiss sounded a little like HAL.
I thought he was trying out a voice distortion device.
looking this morning I think it went long enough for me to be there. I abandoned the zoom cause I under the understanding they no longer last long enough. I may try again these days
We’ll do it again tonight
TDS claims another one, whose symptoms had been incredibly mild until now.
From the article:
[emphasis added]
Please compare and contrast with the DNC. Although, I’m in favor of spending as little as possible on these big blowhard festivals.
I’d imagine those were his views all along but he avoided tweeting about them to preserve his image. Maybe he had a couple too many drinks and couldn’t help himself.
“Trump violated the Hatch Act“
This week’s lie. The Hatch Act doesn’t apply to the President and VP.
“But…but…he violated the spirit of the Hatch Act as we imagine (wish) it to be!”
Jim Gaffigan should be forced to give EXAMPLES as to how Trump is a ‘liar and a criminal’.
These fricken idiots. Because they ‘feel’ it or believe some dumbass news reports they have the right to just libel without fact.
low-budget spectacle
“Low budget”…”racist”…”bigoted”…”dark”…
I definitely do not exist in the same reality as people like this.
He made this tweet: “to those of you who think Im destroying my career wake up. if trump gets elected, the economy will never come back”
The real comedy will be when the economy reaches new highs. How will you fit that into your comedy routine, Jim?
And his choice of movie roles is suspect. Started watching the movie “Drunk Parents”. He plays a released sexual predator. The movie sucked so bad; didn’t finish it. Jim, your agent is doing you no favors.
Thanks, Edit Fairy!

Drunk as a lord?
A good vid on the Texas City disaster:

581 dead…what was the final tally in Beirut I wonder.
Way more than the Lebanese government is admitting to?
Heckler in the peanut gallery
In a lengthy statement released on Friday, the former first lady condemned the shooting of Jacob Blake, a Wisconsin man shot seven times in the back by police in front of his children, as well as the shooting of three protesters by an alleged 17-year-old rightwing militant in the protests that followed.
“I’m just devastated by the shootings in Kenosha,” she wrote. “Like so many of you, I’m exhausted and frustrated right now. It’s a weight that I know Black and Brown people all across the country are shouldering once again. And we’re so often left wondering how things will get better.”
Obama had some pointed words for the Trump administration as well, condemning the “lack of empathy, division stoked in times of crisis and age-old and systemic racism” that is seen across the country, on the news, and “from the White House Rose Garden”.
She heralded the protests against police violence and racial inequality that have taken place across the United States in recent months, and encouraged Americans to vote to propel reform.
“These protests and actions will not make Jacob Blake walk again. They will not erase the trauma from those children. And they will not bring back anyone who’s been taken from us. But they will do something. They already are – opening eyes, rattling consciences and reminding people of all backgrounds that this problem wasn’t solved earlier this summer and it won’t be any time soon unless we all make a change,” she said.
Vandalism, arson, theft, rioting, wanton pointless destruction: these are the tools with which we can raise America up from its mire of sin and depravity.
Black and Brown people
Seems like “White Hispanics” and “Brown people” are interchangeable depending on the Dem party messaging. Strikes me as a bit racist.
Oh fuck off! What an entitled, coddled, narcissistic, and manipulative cunt. (She deserves no “e”.)
Her, and that worthless cunt Omar having the sheer fucking gall to screech that America doesn’t care about people like them as they stride the halls of power is absolutely fucking insane. I really really miss the Old Left that saw everything through the lens of wealth. This bullshit where I’m supposed to pretend that Malia Obama has a harder life than a working class white teenage boy needs to stop.
White Son of Appalachian coal miners = privileged..
Black daughter of Manhattan ophthalmologists = oppressed.
It’s really that stupid.
I would love for her to be surrounded by a group of middle class black folks like the white diners were by the dumbass white kids. Black people should be screaming in stupid face. “WHAT HAVE YOU ACTUALLY DONE FOR US?”
# her stupid face
Old Left that saw everything through the lens of wealth
I miss them too. At least you could engage them in a discussion of crony capitalism versus free markets and find some common ground.
It’s sad that it’s more likely I could have a conversation with Sanders than anyone else in the current iteration of the Democrats.
He’s from the before times when politicians had to explain and defend their policy positions.
Of course her answer for “change” is to vote for the party that’s been in charge of these cities for decades that are suffering from systemic racism and violent Democrat-supporting rioters. And ignore the Democrat mobs harrassing and threatening and attacking political opponents as she decries divisiveness.
Christ, what an asshole.
I am amazed/not amazed how the left can continue to conveniently side-step not only the non-racial aspect of the Rittenhouse shootings, the criminal backgrounds of those “victims”, and in particular the famous last recorded words (“shoot me n****r!”) of the first one to get shot. Don’t they see participation in their “mostly peaceful and intensifying” protests by that sort of people as a problem? They don’t see any need to kinda clean house a little?
They don’t see any need to kinda clean house a little?
Their left wing has been taking down long time incumbents (in the safest districts). But really, they can wait until they have power firmly in their hands before purging the useful idiots. We’ll all get to share the camps with them.
This is going to save the Republicans millions in campaign costs. Instead of having to produce custom videos, now all they have to do is replay internet footage and say “A vote for Democrats is a vote for four more years of this”.
Why would the propaganda arm criticize the paramilitary wing? Their job is to make excuses and cover up their crimes, not expose them.
I have purchased a bottle of your American 1792 small batch whiskey on discount for 34 of your American dollars and I have to say I prefer the wild turkey rare breed for the same price. the 1792 seems sweeter.
1792 seems to have simpler but more intense flavors. the turkey seems a bit more understated but more complex.
Yeah I’m not a big fan of 1792. My go to bourbon the last couple times I bought a bottle is Russells Reserve 10 Year. I also keep a bottle of Old Grandad Bonded 100 Proof for cocktails.
neither of those are available here
Wild Turkey Rare Breed is unusually good for a big label.
Do you get Four Roses in your neck of the woods?
Do you get Four Roses in your neck of the woods – yes
I mean not special/limited releases…
Try the small batch. It’s very spicy.
that is about 30 US
Shit, just found out a neighborhood friend died yesterday.
I talked to him yesterday morning.
do you have an alibi? / bad joke hope he was not a to close friend sorry for losing him
His only daughter is about to get married this Fall and his wife has been undergoing chemo for months. Utterly sucks.
I’ve been doing business with him for fifteen years now. He was a manufacturer’s rep for construction equipment. Just coincidence that we both lived in the same neighborhood.
sounds like a bad situation… I take back the joke
Never take back the joke. You risk losing your glib credentials.
Coward.
You’re worried about bad taste IN THIS POST? Did you not pay attention to the main page and intro graphics? [And comments]?
Sorry to hear that. From how you mention his passing it sounds like it was quick and unexpected. I do hope he didn’t suffer much – sometimes that’s the best you can ask for.
Looks like a heart attack while driving. Ran off the interstate and hit a tree.
Damn. 2020 has sucked…
I’ve already started thinking about what calendar I want for 2021 because this year can’t end soon enough for me.
So sorry to hear about your colleague/neighbor/friend, and deepest sympathy to his family.
My Daughter did a print out calendar where you turn the page from December 31st and there’s just December 2020 pages after that. The year will not let us get off that easy.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
So another covid death.
Sorry Scruffy.
Sorry 🙁
Oh, my. I’m so sorry.
Speaking of bourbon I watched a few videos on a YouTube channel called bourbon junkies and I am surprised at the lack of availability and the huge secondary market markups for some bourbons in your fair country. I blame unregulated unrestrained capitalism myself and the free market.
Agreed. Nobody needs 83 kinds of bourbon. President Sanders will make sure there is only one bourbon, and it will be cheap and plentiful. And it will be 40 proof and taste like used mouthwash.
Victory Bourbon?
You cannot declare victory until the new world is firmly in place. It is Struggle Mash.
I blame unregulated unrestrained capitalism myself and the free market.
We all do.
That account matches up with all the details, and pictures that have been leaking. I’ve seen some on the left claim he didn’t have the knife on him, but the pictures clearly show otherwise. Now this account kind of seals the deal. It also explains why the video that was released started where it did. Whoever did it didn’t want us to see this asshole fighting with the cops.
We now know definitively why the cops didn’t attempt a take down when he was walking around his vehicle, as well.
This shooting is completely justified. If charges are filed its completely political.
The guy was another piece of shit.
They defend piece of shits.
Know why?
Because they project.
I love how the media post pictures of low lifes with their kids. Like that emotional chicanery matters.
Sure he raped a kid but look at him at his kid’s third birthday! Awww!
The initial stories about Floyd attempted to paint him as a hard working family man. No mention of his criminal background.
Same thing with Blake. Like we get his father gushing about his son. No mention of the criminal charges against him or his past.
It’s the Trayvon Martin bullshit where they used some 5 year old photo of him to gin up sympathy.
What were those charges? Did he do something like sleeping with a 17 year old or was it something, well, worse?
Nope. He is accused of actual no shit sexual assault, among other things:
https://nypost.com/2020/08/28/this-is-why-jacob-blake-had-a-warrant-out-for-his-arrest/
Yikes, definitely not a good dude. Certainly not someone to be rioting over.
Yeah the lie at the beginning was
“He stopped to break up a fight and the cops shot him!!!!”
No, he actually went to a woman’s house, forced his way inside, and stole her keys. She called the police on him. There is police scanner audio of dispatch telling the cops that.
Honestly, the era of body cams and ubiquitous recording has actually softened my opinions on cops in general. There are all kinds of videos all over YouTube and other sites of actual deadly force encounters, and man I’m not saying cops are perfect or anything like that, but I am looking back at a lot of the stuff on Reason from Balko that I used to get outraged about, and I wonder what actually happened. Because the stories from 2020 and the stories from 2010 are written the same, but in 2020 we have video that contradicts a lot of them. It really really makes me wonder.
I used to blame cops and legislators about evenly, and now I am shifting that balance. No knock raids, for example, are an abomination, and hey it would be great if all 700,000 cops all decided “No, we’re not doing those anymore” but that’s really not a reasonable place to put the blame.
Then again you have video on the Jose Guerena massacre.
There are still unjustified cases. Philando Castile and Breonna Taylor.
The ones where the victims end up being lionized or turned into martyrs, though? They tend to be the “controversial” ones. This isn’t really new. It almost seems deliberate.
Like, how many media reports mindlessly parroted the claim that Blake was actually deescalating a fight between two women when officers arrived? How hard would it have been to actually look the guy up, see that he had a restraining order against him on top of an active warrant for his arrest and determine that hm…something isn’t right here when you watch that video.
With Blake, you see a guy on video hell bent on ignoring the cops. Almost like a guy who has no desire to go to jail and who knows he has a warrant out for his arrest. He’s looking at actual time.
If you want to make police brutality a wedge issue, you don’t focus on Breonna Taylor situations. You focus on guys like Blake and to a lesser extent Floyd (I say lesser extent because he is not a sympathetic figure, though the video of an officer leaving his knee on his neck for 8 minutes or whatever is pretty damning regardless of what led up to it).
Breonna Taylor seems like a tragic mistake though. It has obviously nothing to do with race or anything like that.
I mean, do you really believe that level of nuance matters to the media or Democratic politicians who would score political points off these cases? Or was this sarcasm?
In the Taylor situation it’s very easy to see what went wrong. There’s an identifiable solution. Not some nebulous bullshit like “end racism.”
That they are hell bent on making it a racial issue only reinforces my point. They want it as a wedge issue. They ignore cases of police brutality against whites and other races. They’ll ignore when the cops involved aren’t white (you had cops of every race at the scene of the Floyd situation).
There was pretty universal disgust about the Floyd video. Few conservatives even defended it. They still managed to make it into a politicized wedge issue.
“Breonna Taylor”
No knock raids are abomination, but the blame for them should fall 100% on the legislature and the courts. You cannot blame cops for executing a policy which was passed by a democratically elected legislature, signed into law by a democratically elected chief executive, and passed the review of the court systems.
Cops should enforce all the laws of their jurisdiction in an even handed and professional manner. They are to blame for negligence, corruption, for uneven enforcement, for excessive force, for violations of recognized civil rights like search and seizure, Miranda warnings, etc.
Like, its actually another example of media lies. I was told that the cops were at the wrong apartment. That is false. The cops had a warrant for her apartment, including photos of the door. They were executing a legal warrant.
Breonna Taylor was killed by the Drug War, specifically the no-knock raid, not by police brutality. I blame the lawmakers, not the cops for it.
You cannot blame cops for executing a policy which was passed by a democratically elected legislature, signed into law by a democratically elected chief executive, and passed the review of the court systems.
Cops always have the option of resigning rather than enforcing laws that are nothing short of evil. We each have accountability for our own actions and police do not get to hide behind bureaucrats when performing acts that harm others.
Kmele actually had a big segment on this on the 5th column last Sunday.
Why did the media not concentrate on Tamir Rice when that happened?
Oh, yeah—that kid was totally innocent and his death outraged nearly everyone, so no racism with which to split the nation.
Akai Gurley. Cop was walking up the stairs with his gun out and his finger on the trigger, and Gurley opened the door to go down the stairs, and he flinched and squeezed off a round.
So what was the reasoning for having to shoot him while he was getting into the car?
1. I have maintained from the start that we don’t see him getting into the car. We see him bending over as if he’s going to grab something in the car. He clearly seems to bend at the waste to me as if to grab something. This is a guy who has already resisted with a knife.
2. The car contained three young children and this is a domestic dispute where the guy just violently resisted arrest while having a warrant out for sexual assault. He’s violent and doesn’t seem to have any interest in going to jail. I’ve seen people around here argue better to let him get away and pick him up later than to shoot. Well, not with three kids in the car you don’t.
They used non-lethal levels of force, and only escalated to the shooting when left with no other good options. If he’s grabbing something in that car, you have no idea what it is but you do know he’s violent. That calls for a legitimate split second decision from the cop.
I do feel the need to reiterate that I am far from some cop-sucker.
Gotcha.
Sophisticated economic analysis from Rolling Stone
The investment world has recently been choosing to invest heavily in renewable energy, diverse workplaces, and companies with fair-labor practices. So-called environmental social governance (ESG) investing has become incredibly popular, with US SIF estimating that today one-quarter of all U.S. dollars invested have some form of an ESG mandate, an 18-fold increase between 1995 and 2018. Financial firms have been working doggedly to create new funds and products that meet customers’ growing demand.
And it’s popular not just because of some charitable spirit. Performance data shows that not only does ESG investing outperform traditional investments in a good economy, but it also loses less in a downturn, though there is some disagreement. Most ESG-sector growth has remained outside of retirement due to retirement’s need for perceived low-risk investments, but given ESG’s growth, it was inevitable that it would eventually enter retirement investing.
Or at least, it was inevitable, until mid-June, when the DOL unveiled its third monumental retirement rule proposal, this time from authority from a Trump executive order promoting fossil fuels. The Labor Department’s slash-and-burn rule will subject all ESG in retirement plans to the stigma of heightened scrutiny. While on its face, the rule clarifies what is already the law — that retirement investments must meet fiduciary-level scrutiny — it also forbids retirement plans from having investments that promote some “non-pecuniary” purpose, such as not destroying the planet, no matter retirees’ wishes.
“Private employer-sponsored retirement plans are not vehicles for furthering social goals or policy objectives that are not in the financial interest of the plan,” Scalia said in a press release.
The consensus in the financial sector is that this rule will have a chilling effect on ESG and benefit the Trump-allied fossil-fuel sector.
They’re perfectly willing to sacrifice the return on your investment if you send the right signal. But…
This little nugget is part of an article screeching about predatory private equity buzzards trying to gain access to 401k account money. It has nothing to do with a desperate search for return. No mention of how the Federal Reserve has wrecked the returns to saving.
Private equity firms are nothing but a bunch of well dressed pickpockets plundering America’s Working Families.
If you want to stop giving an unfair advantage to private equity firms then raise interest rates.
ESG has been a game of political football for at least a decade. And Calpers has been been an absolute political shitshow.
Whoever vetted this asshole is in for quite the fun times. Guy is the CIO and yet “mysteriously” can’t explain the change in his holding YoY. Rules are for the little people my friends.
CalPERS chief’s resignation followed ethics complaint, allegations over $1 billion deal
well dressed pickpockets plundering America’s Working Families.
“That’s our job!”
As opposed to poorly dressed tax collectors?
That an impressive pile of derp.
Oh, go fuck yourself.
NPR is really pissing me off more than normal lately. I noticed last night that Chadwick Bozeman (Black Panther for thise of you who don’t know) died of colon cancer, so I of course read the article (the only one available on my newsfeed at the time was from NPR). Not halfway through, they had to put some bullshit about how it was “tougher for him being a black actor in Hollywood”. You know, Hollywood, the most prog infested, virtue signaling cesspool on the planet? They just couldn’t help but inject the racism angle into it. A fucking man (and a pretty decent actor) just lost his life for fucks sake, and they want to push their racism narrative??? Have some class, NPR.
They’re very convinced of their moral superiority.
Yeah, not a chance of that. That ship done sailed a loooong time ago.
Hollywood legit is racist and sexist. Hence why they are so convinced the rest of the country functions that way.
However, it’s really not that tough being black or female in Hollywood. Blacks are over represented and for some reason when anyone says diversity on the left, that means more black people. Not more Hispanics, or more Asians or Indians or anything else. Just more blacks.
“NPR is really pissing me off more than normal lately“
There’s an easy fix for that.
Rioting?
The idea of the NPR building being looted and torched…not gonna lie, it’s giving me a giggle.
https://www.npr.org/sections/codeswitch/2020/08/27/906642178/one-authors-argument-in-defense-of-looting
No shit there. Business vacate places where they are going to be repeatedly looted. That’s change.
They don’t attack private homes? Where has this idiot been? And LOL at not looting a bookstore. Maybe nothing they want in there? FFS
I’m pretty sure even a cursory examination of the buildings that were looted and destroyed would reveal what bullshit this explanation for the untouched bookstore is.
Well, except this one.
Oh, and this one, too.
“In Minneapolis, there was a small independent bookstore that was untouched”
But another one was burned to the ground.
https://locusmag.com/2020/05/uncle-hugos-bookstore-burned-down/
Like, fuck it, I’ll go full Godwin here: The Nazis didn’t kill every single person in the countries they conquered.
I think that Uncle Hugo’s would disagree.
The fuckfaces that burned down Uncle Hugo’s should be vivisected without anesthesia.
“Have some class, NPR.”
They wouldn’t know where to look for it and couldn’t recognize it if they were lucky enough to stumble across it.
Have some class, NPR.
You slay me.
I try.
President Sanders will make sure there is only one bourbon, and it will be cheap and plentiful. And it will be 40 proof and taste like used mouthwash.
Victory Gin. Now with Iodine.
Victory Gin–that’s it. I was trying to think of the name and my aging undercaffeinated brain did not respond. And I was too lazy to look it up. Thanks.
Unexpectedly
Rioters in North Carolina’s capital city smashed windows, splashed red paint and threw objects at law enforcement officers Friday night after ignoring a 10 p.m. curfew imposed on a downtown protest, according to reports.
The crowd in Raleigh also removed barriers from outside the Wake County Justice Center and tossed them into the street or into nearby bushes, Raleigh’s WRAL-TV reported.
“I would rather die out here tonight of pepper spray, rubber bullets and sticks than to die on the streets with people thinking I’m a devil,” Jeffrey Stallings, 34, of Raleigh, told the News & Observer as he waved a piece of barricade. “We’re people. We’re brothers and sisters.”
——-
Police had used social media to urge people not to be destructive but it soon appeared that plan wasn’t working.
Mostly something-or-other.
“I would rather die out here tonight of pepper spray, rubber bullets and sticks than to die on the streets with people thinking I’m a devil,”
Ummmm….. about that…
Maybe he’s got a severe pepper or latex allergy?
No shit, Sherlock.
She should really stop talking because lots of people are agreeing with her.

Very few people relatively speaking, would actually be bothered by the NBA not playing. Just look at the ratings.
And let’s reverse this. Why should white fans give their money and attention to athletes who are accusing them of racism? Or why should black athletes take money from racist fans? Clearly they should forfeit their massive salaries.
No, no, it makes sense – the NBA wants to bring itself to parity, fan-wise, with the WNBA. Solidarity!
Well, bye.
goddamn heat. it was a mild summer till mid august then it got hotter… 37 fucking degrees goo whiskey degrees not moon degrees no one gives a shit about the moon except werewolves but we don’t keep company with their sort. You don’t get such extreme heat in America
good whisky goddamnit
Got the pot roast in the slow cooker – nothing but beef and daikon this time (and gravy) – see if it works vice potatoes this time.
Unfortunately…due to some weekend schedule plans (not traveling, cooking this sat instead of next sat), I only took the beef out of the freezer last night – so was still pretty solid when I seared it before adding to the cooker – esp because I normally use 2 x 2lb meat pieces vice 1 x 3.5-4lb piece.
Guessing that 8 hours makes all the difference though – we’ll see. Need to add a little more salt/pepper this time – probably in a couple hours. Already added a little extra rosemary – if anyone else has some spice suggestions (beyond the thyme, brown sugar and dijon mustard that my recipe called for) please feel free to suggest).
I did a frozen pork roast in the crock pot a few weeks ago to make lazy mans pulled pork. I had never done it and wondered if I was going to poison myself. Didn’t happen.
As to spices, make it ethnic and see if you can get your hands on some of that powder concoction on the front page.
Horrific scenes
Despite waves of schools and businesses around the country being cleared to reopen, Columbia, Missouri joined cities in Alabama, Utah and Iowa in reimposing restrictions to deal with a surge of infections.
The health director in Columbia ordered on Friday that bars stop serving alcohol at 9pm and close by 10pm after more than 300 students at the University of Missouri tested positive for the coronavirus amid an alarming 44% positivity rate for the surrounding county.
“What we’re seeing in our violations is they’re coming late at night,” said Stephanie Browning, head of the health department for Columbia, Missouri. “Big groups gathering. They’re not wearing their masks, they’re not social distancing.”
——-
In Utah, the city council in Provo overrode a mayoral veto to pass a mask mandate, which includes a $500 fine for organizing large mask-less gatherings, days before students return to Brigham Young University from around the country.
But the council was nevertheless worried that college students sharing dorms, bathrooms and showers could become super-spreaders and bring the virus off campus, council chair George Handley said.
“We’re already seeing what’s happened across the country at other universities, he said. “
A recent warehouse party organized by a BYU student’s promotional company called Young/Dumb also raised concern when pictures of hundreds of revelers without masks surfaced online.
BYU, owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has its own rules requiring masks on campus. Requirements for indoor public spaces in town will help people stay healthy and businesses stay open, Handley said.
“This is actually about preserving our way of life, it’s not about destroying it contrary to what some people say,” Handley said.
Freedom, individual responsibility, self ownership, independent intellectual inquiry, these are not, and have never been, integral to our way of life I guess.
Groupthink and mindless obedience made this nation what it is.
Two university towns. I wonder which towns it was in Alabama and Iowa.
The article says Kim Reynolds ordered all bars shut down around Iowa and Iowa State universities. Thats 2 towns, Iowa City, and Ames.
“Surge” of infections. Let me guess, asymptomatic people testing positive.
YOU’RE NOT FREE UNLESS YOU’RE FREE TO BE WRONG
True, but did anything in particular prompt this?
I would presume he meant it as a comment to the previous, but being Brooks…
hey buddy… stop doing that
Watched some of Trump’s rally last night. Speech* given at an airport in NH with Air Force One as a backdrop. Complete and epic troll/middle finger to the Team Blue, who want to act as if all of the sudden the current president is not allowed to campaign for reelection (i.e. campaign speech at the White House).
*It was the same speech as always, “rah rah ‘Murica” / “things I have done and want to do” and all that.
Even though I disagree with the guy on a great many things, he is at least entertaining and not trying to destroy the country.
He is destroying the pretensions of the Presidency pretty well. For those who worship government – is there a greater sacrilege?
It was pretty good and talked about the mob attack on the Paul’s.
The idea of the NPR building being looted and torched…not gonna lie, it’s giving me a giggle.
“STOP THAT! What are you doing? We’re on your side.”
So apparently the Uighur slave labor market is fairly active – wonder if we’ll see anything from the NBA on this?
hey the nba has its hands filled with the US right violations no time for others
happy camps
BuzzFeed – doing the journalism that the rest of the media won’t.
Attempt to shop at HyVee sans mask unsuccessful. Their sign says recommended but employee is stationed on a stool at the entrance to remind people. That wasn’t there 2 days ago so it makes me wo der if other people were coming in without masks.
what a stool pigeon
Strapping young man too. Another thing that makes me think this was a new possibly ad hoc thing.
Go on…
Gay.
I just noticed he was male and young.
He’d have to be extraordinary in some way for me to notice his hawtness or nawtness.
Dear Journal of Epidemiology,
I never thought it would happen to me…
Ooh! Ooh! Mojeaux! I wanted to tell you about my new shoes! I know you love your Birkies, but if you happen to need some comfy casual sandals, I just got these, and I love them. They have such a cushy footbed that I feel like bouncing just standing still. They’re like yoga pants for my feet!
I am due new Birks so I might give those a try but I’m wary of spending that kind of money on an experiment, though buying the Birks made me wince.
It’s a great site for shoes in general. I’ve had great luck with them. You can even search/filter by specific foot conditions that you may have. Lotsa stuff for overall foot health.
I leave the mask around my chin.
did anything in particular prompt this?
See story linked immediately above. I don’t think they (those krazy kollegians) are even wrong, but the whole Big Nanny routine of “I’m too skeert to do that, so I’m going to stop you from doing it” is really pissing me off.
Gotcha. Its a target-rich environment these days for that particular Iron Law.

Huh. I didn’t bother with the mask last time I went to the grocery store. Nobody said anything. The employees were typically friendly and pleasant.

The Murder Charges Against Kyle Rittenhouse Are a Joke | Contradictory and Incomplete
If the guy that deservedly got his arm ventilated said what his friend says he said, seems like an attempted murder charge would be appropriate.
I’m still waiting for some explanation as to why he hasn’t been charged for being in possession of a firearm to begin with. He is a convicted felon, is he not? It would be nice if we had a media that asked these sorts of questions and it didn’t just fall on internet sleuths to figure this shit out.
I mean, assuming he is in fact a felon, I know the answer already. Because this is all political theater. They know they aren’t going to make those charges stick to Rittenhouse, but filed them anyway. And they won’t go for an easy conviction on a convicted felon because he’s on the right side of goodthink.
I’m still waiting for some explanation as to why he hasn’t been charged for being in possession of a firearm to begin with.
That too, assuming he is actually a convicted felon.
they aren’t going to make those charges stick to Rittenhouse
The only charge they might have is a weapon possession charge and even that does not hold according to federal law, which supersedes the state.
Wonder if that DA is one of the ones Soros has funded?
If he wasn’t, he is now.
Just checked the VA law on possession of a firearm by a minor. It prohibits (among other guns):
Someone more acquainted with ARs will need to tell me if Kyle’s had a 20 round mag or a 30 round mag. Unfortunately for him, 30 is illegal, and I think that’s what he has.
20, though, is legal.
Uh you mean the law in WI right?
I would think so. I am unfamiliar with that VA law, if it is one.
I am unfamiliar with that VA law, if it is one.
Give it a few more months.
That is a Virginia law.
Bah. For some reason looked up Virginia.
Wisconsin is more complicated. The action is in the exceptions.
Section 941.28 prohibits “short-barreled rifles”:
Looked like a full-size AR to me, but I couldn’t say if it was actually “short-barreled”. My M1A is not short-barreled.
Section 29.304 applies to minors under the age of 16.
Section 29.593 is the requirement for hunter education before you get a hunting license.
So it comes down to the barrel length on his AR.
Just a heads up to Virginians, I believe the mag restriction only applies to certain cities and CCW holders are exempt.
Nvm, the link was to under 18. They passed another law banning anything over 20 round in several Dem stronghold cities but exempted CCW holders. Didn’t realize this also included 8+ round shotgun mags. Am surprised they thought to include that.
The tyrants did remove preemption which 1) should not be necessary in the first place (see A1S13 in the constitution of the commonwealth) and 2) allows local tyrants, primarily in cities, to enact otherwise unconstitutional gun controls.
If you thought trying to follow gun laws state by state was difficult try to do so locality to locality within a state.
It’s a real shame. VCDL touted getting that preemption along with Constitutional Carry as their two biggest achievements.
So it comes down to the barrel length on his AR.
Which is arbitrary horseshit.
This is an example of the thousands of gun laws that 1) are constitutionally dubious and 2) serve no practical purpose*.
*Other than to fuck people who are not actual criminals because they have no victims.
VA law?
What’s funny is, if he had borrowed my M1A, he would have been legal, since I only have 20 round mags for it.
And, I suspect a certain armed rioter would be missing an arm.
Colion’s take. And I think he is a lawyer, for whatever that’s worth.
He is a lawyer, I think he practices in Texas.
He is far more patient with the left’s bullshit talking points than I ever could be.
I think he’s wrong about the hunter education certificate. Its not a requirement for someone under the age of 18 to possess a gun. Its a requirement for people under a certain age to have a hunter education certificate in order to get a hunting license.
You know, if lawyers can’t really agree on what these laws say, than I think the laws are pretty fucking dubious.
Get your shit together, lawyers.
C’mon, Bro. Not agreeing on what the law says is basically our entire business model.
I had not seen that guy before. Thanks. Subscribed.
From Viking 1865’s link, above:
It [looting] also attacks the very way in which food and things are distributed. It attacks the idea of property, and it attacks the idea that in order for someone to have a roof over their head or have a meal ticket, they have to work for a boss, in order to buy things that people just like them somewhere else in the world had to make under the same conditions. It points to the way in which that’s unjust. And the reason that the world is organized that way, obviously, is for the profit of the people who own the stores and the factories. So you get to the heart of that property relation, and demonstrate that without police and without state oppression, we can have things for free.
Importantly, I think especially when it’s in the context of a Black uprising like the one we’re living through now, it also attacks the history of whiteness and white supremacy. The very basis of property in the U.S. is derived through whiteness and through Black oppression, through the history of slavery and settler domination of the country. Looting strikes at the heart of property, of whiteness and of the police. It gets to the very root of the way those three things are interconnected. And also it provides people with an imaginative sense of freedom and pleasure and helps them imagine a world that could be. And I think that’s a part of it that doesn’t really get talked about—that riots and looting are experienced as sort of joyous and liberatory.
Where the fuck do these people come from?
I generally avoid pronouncements of wholesale societal doom, but good grief, how will we survive as a nation of laws with this sort of monstrous insanity in our universities?
We don’t. That’s why every around here is stressed.
And arming up.
Where the fuck do these people come from?
Graduate programs.
