doG only knows which of you will be sober enough to read this. It’s Labor Day weekend so I assume most of you are staying drunk until sometime on Monday. I’m keeping it light on the exercise stuff so no one feels guilty for getting their drunk on.
We are experiencing Phoenix like temperatures this weekend. Forecast highs are around 115. It “cools off” during the week to just below 100. At least nighttime lows get back into the 60s.
This was a decent week for my workouts. I jumped rope on my conditioning days instead of running. Partly because of last week’s article and partly because I want to make sure my back and ankle are up to it before I resume. I jumped for 15 minutes each time. I tried the boxer jump from last week’s video. It’s a small modification to what I had been doing. Even so, my calves and muscles in my left foot felt it. Feeling it in my foot muscles was just weird. I can’t think of any exercise that ever made that happen.
Pullups are still coming along. I hit a personal best this week: 8-7-5-4-3-3. I’ve got some nice callouses on my hands so it’s nice to have something matching my heart.
I weighed in at 172 this week. I was 194 at my peak and 182 when the shutdown started. I’ll let you decide if this is slow but steady progress or stress induced weight loss.
I’m including this video because it’s vaguely workout related and appeals to some of your fetishes. You know who you are.

I have never believed Trump is a conservative or a secret libertarian. What he did this week using the CDC to impose an eviction moratorium has confirmed he is simply an unprincipled populist. But I repeat myself.
From the article:
Taylor Denchfield, a landlord in Maryland who owns about a half dozen very small apartment properties, said the expiration of the various federal and state eviction moratoria over the past month has actually helped landlords and tenants to work together. This new order puts an end to that.
“A tenant who is behind on rent today would have a lot easier time making a payment arrangement with their landlord now, rather than not paying rent for four more months knowing that they cannot be evicted and facing an even larger balance come Jan. 1,” said Denchfield. “I am afraid that in the long term, this will result in even more evictions due to the snowball effect of renters’ debt surpassing what may — as of right now — be a more manageable number. Generally speaking, it is a lot easier to work with a tenant now who may only be two to three months behind on rent than it will be at the end of the year when they would be an additional four months behind if no payments are made.”
I have no faith any of this will lapse on January 1st thereby exacerbating an already untenable situation. But let’s pretend it does, it isn’t the governors who are going to take a political hit for unnecessarily shutting down their economies and/or unduly prolonging those shutdowns. I’m looking at you Newsom. It’s Donny Two Scoops who will be blamed for all the evictions and foreclosures. Four-dimensional chess my ass.
This week’s music choice is for Mojeaux because she is the only one I’m certain will be sober enough to click the link. Oh what the hell, here’s one more.
doG only knows which of you will be sober enough to read this. – I am. due to my bad stomach not much drinking this weekend.
Sorry to hear that Pie. Feel better.
Get well soon!
Sorry about your alcohol restriction.
Get well soon.
We are experiencing Phoenix like temperatures this weekend. Forecast highs are around 115. It “cools off” during the week to just below 100. At least nighttime lows get back into the 60s. – i think the worst of summer is done here. highs are forecast under 30 and lows of 15
I am generally not around for glibfit either this is earlier than usual or I am on the computer later. I suspect the latter as I generally shut it down by 22:05
So as I usually am not around my fitness report is not that relevant but I did change my program completely from push pull to full body workouts
I did manage to bench 85 for 10 reps without significant shoulder pain so am happy about that
is that a metric ten count?
usual unformatted quote, then change from F to C in your reply, finish off with a weight that could go either way.
Pure Pie. *chefs kiss* delissimo.
Ran alot this week. Made sure To hit every hill/set of stairs I could. Dinners were always keto.
Lunch; well I ate a cheeseburger everyday for lunch. No french fries, though. 🙂
Thanks, Chafed for the column.
Everybody do good; do something; do anything.
Good advice
Riding my bike with the kids to go get burgers and milkshakes. Does that count?
Something is better than nothing.
Making a martyr
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/jacob-blake-speaks-hospital_n_5f54caf2c5b6578026cf7273
Pretty rare that writers for the Huffington Post would deify a rapist who was shot while being arrested on an outstanding warrant for sexual assault because his victim called police to tell them that he was at her home and had assaulted her again.
But these are strange times.
So no mention of any of that.
No coincidence that the same attorney is involved from all of these false narrative martyrs.
I love any Motley Crue filmed at the Starwood, which that looks like it prolly was, this is what I think of when I want some MC.
I like that Mick Mars was like 20 years older than the rest of those dudes. He’d been playing guitar in bands on the Strip since the 60’s. Hell, he probably played in some iteration of Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, Love, Sky Saxon, etc at some point. Then hair metal was the sound, so he changed his name to “Mick Mars” and wore mascara and a wig.
Fuckin ‘a! If you watch later concerts, he’s the only one with his shit together. Dude was a godsend to that band. Took them to the top!
Didn’t know that. Explains his needing a hip replacement.
He has ankylosing spondylitis. He was diagnosed when he was 19 or something ridiculously young like that, so it’s not just old age that made him have to have the hip replacement.
Mick has some degenerative bone disease. Had it for decades. Supposedly it hurts like hell.
Yes and he got “strung out” on oxy.
I’m sorry, but if you’re in constant, severe pain, you are not “strung out” on pain killers. That is not addiction; it’s pain relief.
Fuck you, WoD.
You just made Mojeaux’s heart flutter.
I’m sober again but yeah I’ve probably overdone it a little this weekend.
And I don’t care.
? from previous thread: Copperhead
Cool, thanks. Easy-peasy. Will try later.
Update: not bad. The sugar-free’ness of the ginger ale kind of ruins it, though. I’ll have to try with old-school ginger ale some day.
I’m not late to the GlibFit thread this week. I mentioned last week that we were in Colorado Springs for a week-long vacation (travelogue article forthcoming). We did 4 hikes of 5-7 miles. One of the hikes went from about 7500 ft to 9000 ft above sea level – that was the most challenging. So the good news is that I actually lost weight during that trip, despite eating some great food and drinking a variety of beers.
When I started focusing on losing the fat in mid-July I was at 216.5 lbs. This morning I weighed in at 204 lbs. I’m happy with my progress.
Thumbs up.
Thanks! Appreciate the support.
One of the things I’ve done twice over the past month+, including yesterday, was to have a protein shake day. I drank protein shakes about every 2-3 hours, with a total of 700 – 800 calories. I’ve found it is a nice way to break through a weight plateau. I didn’t really need to break a plateau yesterday, but my wife did and I wanted to be supportive and did the protein shake day with her.
Excellent.
Good work!
Here is a supreme example of toxic masculinity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7A7kn6zQe4&ab_channel=WeirdHistory
Supposedly, his 3 thieves tried to rob his ancestral home. One ended up stabbed to death, one was shot to death and the third managed to escape. Cassius Clay (the politician not the boxer) was 89. And that wasn’t the only example of his toxic masulinity.
Hi Chafed, Greetings from NOCal. Weather here is best described as “smoke house”. Highs in the 100s and smoke visibility at 1/8mi.
Typical week for me. Got out at 630 today to beat the heat and hiked a new land trust trail. Even with a good map, I am paranoid of “getting lost” or hylophobia ( I think there is a cream for that…)
This week, I am looking forward to having the power turned off as seasonal practice; just in case there are local fires, wind or other dangerous conditions. I am somewhat glad I haven’t paid the bill in 5 months…Covid for the win
I am planning a 72hr fast for later this week. I have never gone longer than 50 hrs. I’ll write about it next edition.
Have a great week, keep moving and skip a meal or 3 this week.
We live 12 miles east of San Francisco. Mark Twain’s “coldest winter i ever experienced was summer in San Francisco” is not this year. We’re expected to hit 108 today, tomorrow and Tuesday. Thick smoke everywhere just as IRBE described, which is also increasing the humidity. Tough to exercise in all this, although it might be cool enough to use the elliptical trainer in the garage this evening. Hoping to lose some weight purely by perspiration today.
I remember years ago reading that Paul Newman would drink a lot of beers every day, but kept himself slim by spending a lot of time in his sauna. Will test that theory (without the beer) by sitting in the backyard this afternoon.
We’re getting beautiful sunsets over the Puget Sound because the smoke from the California wildfires is drifting up here and diffusing the light into magic tones.
The diffusion of light is weird for here. It reminds me of ’80s summers in SW Ohio when you could almost taste the air.
Did you live fairly close to a Cargill plant? : )
Nope. I was raised in Cincy.
I was going to smoke some ribs for Labor day. I think I will just put them out on the back deck.
One of these days we should have an Eastbay meet at the Round-Up Saloon…
That would be great, the Round Up is quite close by. Hopefully they’ll let them open again someday. Soon as they do, we’re there.
Yeah, it wasn’t all the movie star cocaine or anything.
It’s just a matter of time before Newsom requires a virgin sacrifice to mother Gaia. Then the earth will cool because we have repented our sins.
I am not sure 1 virgin would be sufficient but I don’t want to encourage him
Where would you find one in CA?
You order one on the intertoobs.
FYI..there are plenty of male incels here…Gavi don’t discriminate based on sex, gender, species or mostly anything
A celibate incel is just a guy whose love life got out of hand.
I’m willing to sacrifice Newsom to expiate California’s sins.
This site is better than PornHub.
So am I Ted. So am I.
It’s Labor Day weekend so I assume most of you are staying drunk until sometime on Monday.
You are not wrong. Now time for my nap.
Got an epic road trip planned for next Sunday. We’ll be based in Collierville, TN. Going to roadie to Muscle Shoals studios, then to Memphis and a quick drive-by of Graceland. Then Sun Studios, Stax Studios, and Ardent Studios. And Goner Records. That’s the birthplace of rock n roll and rhythm n blues. Plus, Goner records.
Hoping to score some bbq/hot chicken along the way. Any suggestions?
Mussel shoals? Like this mussel shoals? Right the fuck on!
Like this Muscle Shoals https://youtu.be/sks0x_GJIDs
Now, I’m feeling like a fool!
We have a Mussel Shoals up by Santa Barbara and it’s spelled “Mussel Shoals”, but Duane Allman never played there.
Besides, if we’re gonna go with chick music recorded at Muscle Shoals, let’s go with the good stuff!
Noice. Here’s a little more of that Muscle Shoals magic. https://youtu.be/dQj1maiKokk
Hah! When I was a kid, that song would be piped out of the ’64 Impalas of all the Ese Lowriders. It was a number one fave of Smiley, Spooky and Shooter, LOL!
Anyways, here’s some good MS recordings.
Etta James wasn’t the only black lady to record at Muscle Shoals. Mick Jagger did, too. https://youtu.be/g69labQKuuU
Btw, that’s one of the better oldies.
Sky Dog gussying up another Muscle Shoals Song. It’s long, but you gotta hear it all.
dammit! Loan me a dime!
LOL! Wild whores couldn’t drag me away!
Here’s a more modern and very nice tune that references Wild Horses. Bonny Doon “Saw a Light” https://youtu.be/6uUXu6JU9Yk
Saw A Light https://youtu.be/pwfyr0GujG8
That’s a good tune.
LOL I had that 45 when I was little. Probably inherited it from my mom or something.
Hopefully they will have removed all the BLM graffiti from the exterior walls of Graceland by the time you get there. If Elvis had been around for the defacing, he might have started shooting at something besides his TV for a change.
Or released a sequel to “In the Ghetto”. *shudder*
Shooting at the teeeveee sounds like a pretty good plan about now
As I commented last night, I have worked my way back up to 40 minutes on the treadmill at my preferred pace of 3.3 mph. For no particular reason that I recall, my past plateau level had been 45 minutes at that speed, the fastest that feels comfortable and still allows me to navigate on my tablet reasonably well at the same time. Later today – late afternoon or early evening, well past our customary waffles & sausage brunch – I’ll go for the 45-minute mark. I’m trying to get on the treadmill just about every non-swimming day, though I skipped Friday. (Am I being a weenie to think it’s OK to give myself a day off weekly?)
Since we’re being brutally honest about numbers, I’ll confess that my weight is stubbornly clinging to just below 140 lbs. despite walking more frequently. I’d been as low as 125 within the last two years (during a Biggest Loser contest at work,) but perhaps that’s just no longer realistic. Still, I’m gratified that my new Duluth Trading skinny jeans fit in a size 6 instead of my customary 8. Took a chance because the website said customers reported them running large. We’ll see if they still fit when I take them out of the dryer.
Oh – and I’m sober, doggone it.
Good work GT. Just keep at it.
Go, GT! That’s awesome! Lower numbers on the scale don’t mean as much as a smaller clothing size.
45 minutes achieved!
Congrats.
Thank you. I’ll take my achievements where I can find them.
Interesting article that touches on how the American education system is beginning to learn a thing or two from ideas that the Germans and Swiss have been pursuing for decades and which step outside the college-for-all mentality that rules in the US.
Not sure throwing lots of Federal pork at this stuff is such a great idea, though :/
LOL I’m picturing this sort of thing making all the right-thinking people at HuffPo or the Guardian go apeshit.
Absolutely. It must violate any number of isms because that means people are choosing not to go to the same colleges as their writers.
Congrats to all the Glibs getting skinnier/fitter.
I’m sticking with my keto food, hard liquor, and drunken sex regimen.
You just struck me out on 3 pitches.
?
Sean: The chicks love him, and all the men want to be him.?
LOL I’m picturing this sort of thing making all the right-thinking people at HuffPo or the Guardian go apeshit.
SLAVERY!
Pretty rare that writers for the Huffington Post would deify a rapist who was shot while being arrested on an outstanding warrant for sexual assault because his victim called police to tell them that he was at her home and had assaulted her again.
You work with the martyr you’re given.
Only saw one biker on the three walks I took with the dog this weekend, but surprised the guy by running into him twice. The first time I was doing a clockwise loop and he was going counter-clockwise; on the way back to the house I took a short cut between two of the trails so he came up behind me.
May go for a walk by myself tomorrow, since I’ve got grocery shopping to do and can’t leave the dog in the car or claim he’s a service dog. 🙂
Is somebody really going to challenge your service dog claim? The grammar on your faked certificate would be immaculate, gtfo here.
I picked up about 3-4 lbs the past 5-6 weeks, eating far too much from the garden. It’s another month of overeating but in a few days I’ll find the treadmill and get some walking in before hunting season. Honey Harvest two weeks from today, usually I buy canning jars (quart, big mouth) but every where is sold out, claiming the CV has kept people home and they started canning (again). I’m out scrounging but a problem with being an isolationist (Glib) I have few friends, (other than here). We’ll make out OK, neighbors will have some to spare, I hope.
After the HH I’ll start back on weights again but I don’t need to lift too much.
Yesterday Mrs F and I were discussing politics and she accused me of not liking Trump (She’s a serious Trumpinista). I explained I really don’t care what he says because he is so full of shit it doesn’t matter. I told her, however, that he is so wrong on his economic policies it’s unreal and I really think he’s creating some serious danger that is going to change our lives, dramatically, not for the better and for a prolonged time. She rolled her eyes, as usual.
doG only knows which of you will be sober enough to read this. It’s Labor Day weekend so I assume most of you are staying drunk until sometime on Monday. I’m keeping it light on the exercise stuff so no one feels guilty for getting their drunk on.
I was at the beach earlier today. I had some Mojitos with lunch while I was there. I walked around a bit. There are some nice sand sculptures. Too many people wearing masks. Fuck.
I had some ice cream while I was at the beach. It was good.
I’m back at home and drinking a Backwoods Bastard.
Good for you Chafed on the pullup progress.
My weight is down a pound. 275.4. Oddly, I lost both fat and lean mass. I wonder if the lean mass loss is water weight as my workouts are still going good.
I might get discharged from physical therapy soon. After my last setback of causing myself pain when I picked 110 lbs of dumbbells off the floor when I’m not supposed to be deadlifting more than a dowel rod’s weight, I bounced back quickly. I also have more flexibility in my hamstrings. My PT will perform an evaluation later this week. If that goes well, I’ll stop going to PT unless things take a turn for the worse. There’s not much more they can do for me. I just need time, to continue my exercises and stretching, and to slowly reintroduce stuff at the gym.
It sounds like you are are getting better DEG. Congrats on that. Stay with the stretching and follow your PT’s advice. Better to slowly make progress then have another blowout and set yourself back.
Thanks!
Thanks for the t00ns! “Too Fast For Love” was their EP, which my bestie and I blasted while we “cruised” Noland Road. You remember those days, when you just cruised up the street and then down the street again? No idea why. So that’s a beloved part of my adolescence.
I’ve been stress eating, so I’ve gained back half my loss.
You remember those days, when you just cruised up the street and then down the street again? No idea why.
Yep. I remember them. I used to do it.
People with good cars would do it to show off. I was just showing that the car I had back then hadn’t fallen apart yet.
Sorry about your stress and the stress eating.
?
Just saw a large crowd hanging outside a nearby German restaurant. Apparently, live music is back because I saw a band setting up. On the sidewalk.
I hope they’ve paid the cops to look the other way cuz that shit can’t be kosher with the Oberbürgermeister.
Obligatory
The Clown Prince graciously and magnanimously allows live entertainment in outdoor areas for bars and restaurants in NH but only if there is no dancing or mingling. Don’t you dare have live entertainment inside or you’ll spread Lil Rona around.
We don’t get indoor dining until next year. I wonder how many restaurants will make it that long.
Probably not many.
I know of a few places up here that are not sure what they are going to do once it gets too cold to have outdoor dining.
Our neighborhood bar is permanently closed. Fucking pissed. No more Fridays like
Dagnabbit! Like this!
My kind of music, Thanks, Blackjack. Sad that you won’t be able to enjoy more of the same. Hope the young lady will be at the next place that can open. Time for speakeasies. “Pssst, I’m a friend of Donald’s?”
Yeah, our table was about 8 or 10 feet to the right of that frame. Stolen by the government.
Sorry blackjack.
Thanks man!
“We don’t get indoor dining until next year. ”
That’s just fucking absurd.
I’d call it evil.
It’s both.
Seconded.
Large crowds of Germans? What could possibly go wrong?
Oompa music and public urination.
“you just cruised up the street and then down the street again”
A teenager with a driver’s license. Every kid wants the other kids to see him/her and let it be known.
“Mo passed her DL test!”
“How do you know?”
“She was cruisin’ on Main Street”
LOL but it took me a few tries.
I was able to renew my license on line without an eye test, because of the CV. Funny how I’ve come full circle, I was dreading having to show up in person, one never knows.
After a few weeks of easing back into a workout routine and getting my cardio conditioning back?, I decided it was time to crank up some of the big lifts. Took by deadlifts up to 275, will probably keep going till I hit 315. Trying to get my overhead press higher than 135, that’s a slower one for me.
Good.
My best overhead press was 160. That was long before the disc herniation acted up.
I got away from them under the advice of a personal trainer because of strength imbalances that needed correcting. The imbalances were causing shoulder pain. The current trainer I’ve been working with thinks I can carefully start them up again as long as I don’t aggravate the herniation.
Good job Drake. That’s some serious weight.
I’m finally under 200 lbs – hovering around 198 +/- about 1.5 lbs for the past couple of weeks. Down from almost 220 last year – highest I have logged is 217 back in November, although I wasn’t weighing myself every day back then. I still need to drop another 10-15 pounds of fat.
I’ll bet you’re pretty stoked to be under 200.
Yes, probably haven’t been under 200 for 5 years.
Boom!
Neck shot.
https://mobile.twitter.com/Breaking911/status/1302713642429878275
Oh..sorry I didn’t see you linked that. Still mostly peaceful.
No worries. ?
LOL I knew a hero would come through for me. I expected it to be another player, though.
Tender Is The Neck https://youtu.be/6uUXu6JU9Yk
?
I have something else by them – I like them a lot.
Joker #1 seed has been DQ’d out of the US Open Tennis Championship. Hitting a line judge with an errant ball in frustration..but mostly peaceful protest!
I’m reminded of Shapavolov (a current top Canadian player & who is in action at 7 tonight) sending a chair umpire to the hospital a few years ago in a similar manner. It was I think the year before I started watching a lot of tennis but the announcers were kind enough to remind us of it every time he showed up for the next couple years.
I used to play tennis and was a casual fan for a couple of decades..but a couple of years ago, I watched the US Open and I was hooked. IMO there is no sport that is as physically and mentally demanding without actually beating someone to near death. There is nowhere to hide like with team sport and the better player always wins.
My favorite players tend to be the cool & collected types. Think Felix Auger-Aliassime versus hothead and countryman Shapovalov. Sometimes it can be an advantage!
“You can’t be serious!”
Now he’s a lovable curmudgeon. But I bet he was an asshole back in the day.
Him and Jimmy Connors. At least CBS doesn’t have the coverage to go on about Connors’ 1991 run.
I don’t know if being an asshole is that much of a disadvantage in sports.
No, and stubbornly they usually refuse to perform in accordance with my personal disliking of them.
Today in corporate stupidity:
But no worries… other identity groups are coming out with their own pins, too.
Bullshit, it’s a political movement, specifically a Marxist one with a heavy slathering of racism on top.
Yes it is.
Oh, and apparently Delta is unveiling their own. Fuck. The rest of the domestic airlines will follow suit shortly, and this will spread to other industries. I knew just funneling money and making statements wouldn’t be enough for these companies.
*peeks out from behind barricade*
That got announced weeks ago.
*hides*
I don’t think most travelers will change plans because if it. I do expect a small number of stories because someone gets thrown off a plane for complaining about the pin.
But… if American Airlines thinks they are building goodwill with a large segment of the population then they are in for a surprise.
Yep, agree with all of that. Worse than just pissing off some of their paying customers, it’s contributing to building even more divisiveness on racial lines.
It’s nice here today, so the dog and I made all three of our walks longer than normal. Then I did some yard work. Then I blew it by having margaritas with the neighbor. Worth it!
Sunday funday with margaritas! Sipping a Smirnoff, oj, and Perrier. Cheers!
I wonder when home gym equipment will be available. I still want to buy a bench.
Some of this this shit I don’t understand. Stores haven’t had disinfectant spray since March. How haven’t they caught up by now?
Good fucking question.
Rogue has some more kettlebells available.
I could probably use some more dumbbells in different weights.
They have benches, but the prices are insane.
Stores around here just started to stay restocked on wipes, albeit not entirely a full shelf, but it’s back to empty shelves most of the time now with whatever shows up gets sold quickly even with an item limit.
Safeway is still stocking Mexican toilet paper along with normal brands. Saw Kimlark today, which is Kimberley-Clark’s Mexican commercial brand. None of the packaging is intended for US sale. Clearly either KC or a distributor is shipping them north to meet demand.
I’m still burning through stock I bought months ago. I thought everyone had a closet full of TP by now.
I have plenty of quat and bleach, although I had to buy it online — nothing at the store. What I’m running out of is alcohol based spray disinfectant for things that can’t get wet, such as my phone. I only have one can that I bought last Summer.
I saw Lysol briefly but gone again. Would wiping with damp, but not soaking, quat so the surface is moist but not damage the internals work?
I have spray bottles of 99% IPA from gallon containers at work, although sanitizing at the higher percentage is somewhat questionable. Available online, but pricing and shipping are somewhat high.
I am doing my part for fitness by cooking dinner tonight and popping a bottle or two of wine. A nice movie on the couch with SP pretty much completes my idea of a great Sunday night.
We had visitors this weekend. Went through 7 bottles.
What movie?
My movie viewing this afternoon was Rose of Washington Square starring Alice Faye and Tyrone Power. Tonight will probably be June Bride with Bette Davis.
Undecided as of yet. I really should scout one up instead of our usual inefficient, “Ummm, what should we watch?”
Binge watch Tacoma FD.
I still haven’t started the 2nd half of the season.
Refer to avatar.
It’s an idea for later. I haven’t laughed at a sitcom so much in years.
What’s your go-to source for classic movies? TCM?
That, and the backlog of DVDs I haven’t gotten around to watching. Rose of Washington Square is on an Alice Faye box set I picked up in part for Four Jills in a Jeep (unfortunately doesn’t seem available on streaming just now).
Oh, and the odd movie on FXM when they put new movies into the rotation, and other movie channels when they have the free preview weekends.
Prime. Criterion Collection. And increasingly, YouTube.
My wife has commandeered the laptop, and we are apparently binge watching “ The Order” on Netflix. Witches vs. werewolves, I think. It’s kind of funny and weird.
I’m quietly strumming my Les Paul. It’s gonna be a couple weeks before I can wail on it again.
