    mornin’ ya’ll

    • Festus' Mustache

Mornin’ fellow bruised one! I think it’s funny that all the grain slaves are still attired in suits in the above image. They did a LOT of acid back in the early 70’s.

      • ZARDOZ

ZARDOZ SPEAKS TO YOU, HIS SARTORIAL OBSERVING CHOSEN ONE. ZARDOZ HAS A STRICT DRESS CODE FOR GRAIN SLAVES. ZARDOZ PREFERS A MORE FORMAL SLAVE LABOR APPEARANCE. KEEPS THINGS PROFESSIONAL. ZARDOZ HAS SPOKEN.

      • Festus' Mustache

        No casual Friday. Got it.

      • juris imprudent

        Not on a Thursday certainly.

      • Tejicano

Grain slavery is one of those positions which is exceptionally difficult to convert to WFH.

      • Festus' Mustache

        ^ (insert Sean avatar here)

      • Festus' Mustache

Yikes! We had a few moves back in 1980 but sadly, I don’t vote Democrat. 🙂

      • Tonio

        Thanks, Tres. Great wake-up music.

      • Not Adahn

Hmmm. As were the astronauts in Gattica. And in Gattica., the penis was not used to create new life. And People were geneticall engineered so that they could be incinerated at much lower temperatures…

      • PieInTheSky

        what is a Gattica?

      • Not Adahn

They used a fifth, synthetic nucleic acid in the real version.

      • Festus' Mustache

Gattaca is a pretty good sci-fi movie but is not as good as Dark City. Gattaca has Uma Thurman and Dark City features youngish Jennifer Connelly.

      • PieInTheSky

I am perfectly aware what Gattaca is thankyouverymutch. I would say it is a better movie than Dark City but both are good.

      • DrOtto

Dress for the job you want, not the job you have!

      • UnCivilServant

That would get me fired from the job I have.

      • Festus' Mustache

I no shit had to wear pants last night at work for the first time since April. Goodbye khaki friends, I’ll see you next Spring…

      • UnCivilServant

        So you were kilted before?

      • Festus' Mustache

Unfortunately, I’m nae that bold. Wish that it were, though.

      • Bobarian LMD

        Donald Duck.

      • l0b0t

I have not been in trousers since 2018. Last winter was very mild, only 1 snowfall, so I’ve been wearing my beloved cut-off BDU bottoms from military units around the world.

      • Festus' Mustache

54 Degrees North. I have no choice.

      • Swiss Servator

Want some ACUs? I have a whole bunch I need to get rid of.

      • l0b0t

        Really? Yes, please. What size?

    • Hyperion

It sure is nice to see someone else spell y’all correctly. The Yankees have shamed me into spelling it the wrong way, but at least one Daytonian is still holding out. There is hope.

      • Bobarian LMD

        Correct spelling == yinze.

  2. leon

zardoz cares not about the murder last night in SLC?

    • ZARDOZ

ZARDOZ CHEERS ALL CLEANSING. BUT WE NEED A HIGHER NUMBER OF CLEANSINGS TO REALLY REGISTER.

      • Festus' Mustache

ZARDOZ PROCLAIMS TOO LOCAL! ZARDOZ HAS SPOKEN!

    • invisible finger

Zardoz thinks Chicago is minor league. SLC is like tee ball.

      • Swiss Servator

Now, if anyone had actually died in the debate…

      • leon

OHH I just thought of alternate joke:

“Right Wing White Fundamentalist Christian murders cop in SLC”

      • Swiss Servator

…to be stolen by the Bee, shortly.

  3. leon

    Make Great USSR again!

    • Swiss Servator

“What need is invasion of Central Asian country. What go wrong?”

      • leon

There just pissed because we’ve doubled the amount of time they were in Afghanistan and we haven’t collapsed yet.

      • Bobarian LMD

Give us a couple more months.

  4. Rebel Scum

I notice that “mansplain” is a popular term right now. Perhaps the lying cunte Harris shouldn’t have been such a lying cunte and actually answered a question*.

*I know I am severely biased against her (for damned good reason) but is just me or did she have nothing but canned lines/lies?

And for some reason even styx thinks that the moderator was relatively evenhanded. Sure, if every Pence question wasn’t so loaded that he had to spend his time deconstructing it.

    • Sean

      I fell asleep.

My gf watched some of it and told me this morning how horrible CommaLa was.

      • Rebel Scum

She was as dislikable as always. But I am told that this is because she is a woman and everyone is sexist (never mind that me, and I am sure others, think the same about that dishonest sniveling weasel Tim Kaine, who is in fact a dishonest, sniveling weasel).

      • Sean

        Tim Kaine,

How has that guy not been outed as a pedo yet?

        Creepy dude.

      • Bobarian LMD

How has that guy not been outed as a pedo yet?

No witnesses; he probably eats the evidence.

      • AlexinCT

With the assholes the problem is always with the people that see that the uppity cunte is an asshole…

    • Animal

Pence evaded some questions, in fact a couple obviously so, but on balance he handed Round-Heels Harris her ass.

But now, this morning, Trump says he won’t attend the second Presidential debate because the commission decided to take it virtual. That’s a bad mistake. The Biden people will be crowing about it for the next week.

Trump is fucking up. He’s fucking up and he’s going to lose. He’s letting the other people make the election about him and not about Groper Joe. If you let your enemy define the terms of the battle, you’ve already lost. Trump is now giving up the best chance to hammer Joe on his own record, and it makes him look like a wuss.

Reagan could run on his personality. Trump can’t; he’s an asshole.

      • l0b0t

The tweeters is already full of strident calls to have the debate anyway and just give Biden 90 minutes of uninterrupted air-time. The Short-Fingered Vulgarian screwed the pooch on this one.

      • UnCivilServant

Not necessarily. Letting Biden speak for ninety minutes would really hurt Biden.

      • leon

I think he should push back. There is nothing unsafe about properly socially distancing the debate. They could do the debate outside. There is plenty to do that they could without going virtual, and going virtual would make it so easy for them to mute him, which he really doesn’t need.

      • CPRM

Actually, he really does need it, but coming from his own brain hair, not moderators.

      • prolefeed

Refusing to do battle on wildly unfavorable ground IS pushing back. Letting Biden set the terms of debate to whatever the hell he wants would be a terrible idea.

There’s gonna be a debate counterproposal from Trump.

      • AlexinCT

Is it bad that I am starting to like Trump precisely because he is an asshoe?

      • kinnath

The next debate is a week away.

Trump is complaining loudly that the rules are being changed mid-stream.

        It’s his standard negotiating tactic.

His position will change 5 or 6 times over the next 5 or 6 days.

The debate will happen. Trump is incapable of walking away from a chance to talk on national TV.

      • Rebel Scum

I disagree. The debate needs to happen, but needs to happen in person. Virtual is horseshit. Biden will be on a prompter and they could cut Trump’s feed when he is “lying”. He needs to push back on the terms.

They could do the debate outside.

I never understood this logic. If the virus is in particles of moisture from your breath wouldn’t it move farther in a breeze?

  5. robc

    Zardoz or Swiss?

    • Festus' Mustache

Santa is real and I’ll break anyone that says different!

    • Swiss Servator

Everytime I edit this @#$% something goes wrong. Thanks – all corrected.

If you think I am getting on the wrong side of our contributors, no thanks!

      • SUPREME OVERLORD trshmnstr

I’m more afraid of some of the contributors getting on the wrong side of me. *shudder*

  6. Festus' Mustache

Nice hidden first link, Zardoz! You just know he did that because now in addition to being a narcissitic sociopath he has the roid rage now. Pretty soon he’ll be Hitler in the bunker! (adjusts menstrual yarn pussy hat)

  7. Rebel Scum

    SWEEP THE LEG.

Some people need to realize that alligators, like bears, are vicious killers that are not to be fucked with.

    • Festus' Mustache

He’s a Southern Gator. He don’t cotton to any miscenagation!

    • SDF-7

Get that gator a body bag… a body bag!!

  8. robc

Baseball birthdays are pretty awful today, the best modern player is Mike Morgan, who managed to stay above replacement level for 22 years. 22 years, 26.2 WAR. That is an ugly way to make a ton of money.

    • robc

He peaked at $3.375MM in the mid 90s because the Cubs are morons.

      • robc

His next contract after that one was with the Reds for $500k*. Who may or may not have got their monies worth.

*Which I believe was minimum salary for a veteran player at that time.

      • Festus' Mustache

I’d eat a bag of dicks (not really) for that kind of dough. Failed ballplayer. 🙁

      • robc

Right now, free agent contracts pay about $8-10MM per WAR*. Morgan was a 1.2 war/yr player for 22 years. In todays game, that makes you very, very wealthy for being very, very mediocre**.

        *source: some quick googling

**mediocre relative to other MLBers. Compared to all humanity, Morgan was an absolute elite baseball player. He made it to the majors at age 18. Until that day, he was probably always the best player on the field.

      • Festus' Mustache

Yep. I was good enough to get scouted and might have got some free tuition but even back then I knew my limits. Too small to be a “Show” catcher. Probably would have turned me to the outfield.

      • invisible finger

1-WAR free agents NEVER get paid $8MM per year. They average about $2-3MM. The free (agent) market pays per WAR on a logarithmic scale, not a linear scale – exactly what one would expect from a typical supply/demand curve. It amazes me that so many writers at stathead sites like fangraphs still can’t figure this out.

      • Chipwooder

That’s something I remind myself from time to time – no matter how terrible a major league player is, for most of his life he was the best player on his team.

The best player I ever played with or against was a kid who threw high 70s fastballs when we were in LL majors. He went on to be a star closer in college. Was a 15th round pick of the Cubs, and…..never made it past AA. A kid in my sister’s graduating class was the biggest star on a fantastic team that won the state championship. At least 3 or 4 kids from that team played professionally. This one was a first-round pick of the Twins. Never made it out of the minors because he simply couldn’t hit worth a damn at the pro level. Fantastic glove at SS though.

      • OBJ FRANKELSON

That is why I find it entertaining when people say that x really good college football team could beat the worst team in the NFL. No. No, they couldn’t top tie college teams, on average have, what? At best 5-10 guys that will get drafted and one or two that will be first round picks at the pro-level. A team composed entirely of those guys would absolutely crush a college team. The speed and athleticism of the guys at the pro level is well beyond that of the college ball level.

      • SUPREME OVERLORD trshmnstr

That is also why [insert latest speed read college offense] will never take off in the NFL either.

Read option/RPO is a gimmick in thr NFL because the edge rushers are 4.8/40 runners. In college most are 6.8/40 runners.

    • Chipwooder

Mike Morgan! What did he play for, 15 teams?

  9. UnCivilServant

I was looking at trying some refrigerator pickling, and got stuck with the disagreement on whether the jars need to be fully sterilized, or merely clean. I reread Tulip’s article, and it implies clean is merely good enough. Of course there are other sources which go full panic over insisting you fully sterilize the jars.

What’s the risk threshold, how long does it take for horrible stuff to grow in the salt and vinegar brine?

    • PieInTheSky

a bit of mold never killed no one. I doubt my mother ever sterilized the jars… Also salt brine >>> vinegar

      • Ted S.

        Botulism is a dickens.

    • Ted S.

I don’t think I want to eat pickled refrigerator.

      • UnCivilServant

        It’s shockingly popular.

    • Not Adahn

It takes longer than it does for diary products to go bad at that temperature, if that helps you make a decision.

      • Ted S.

How long did it take Anne Frank to go bad?

      • Not Adahn

Well, apparently if the pages destroyed by her father are any indication, she was a bad, bad girl indeed.

      • Not Adahn

The Diary of Anne Frank was expurgated. Pages where she was having… those kind of thoughts were removed before transcription/publication.

      • Festus' Mustache

I can’t stand to read my old diaries. So cringey.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

I read my old journals and think to myself that was a great, well-adjusted guy with completely understandable delusions of grandeur.

    • Festus' Mustache

We don’t use a pressure cooker anymore. Boiling the jars top down in a pan for about ten minutes will kill pretty much anything. Chuck the lids in there while you’re at it. Softening the rubber makes for a better seal and if it’s just pickled vegetables, an ice bath isn’t really necessary. Don’t re-use the lids from old mason jars, buy fresh ones every year. We’ve been canning for decades and have had very few failures.

      • Fourscore

Mrs F hand washes, then a trip trough the dish washer. Lids/rings in the boiling water. Refrig cucumber pickles last a year, unless we eat ’em all first. 60 quarts right now. She uses warm mix and many of the refrig ones are sealed anyway. Beet pickles go through the water bath and on the shelf.

      • Festus' Mustache

Wifey is a farm girl. She knows the score.

      • Bobarian LMD

I got a buddy at work who uses a pressure cooker to can venison.

He’ll put some veggies (carrots, potatoes) and raw venison cubes and the canning process cooks the meat and makes it’s own gravy.

Open it up months later and pour over egg noodles…

        Holy shit it, is delicious.

Imma say, if one of those went bad, you’d probably not have any trouble telling it went bad.

    • Nephilium

There’s a difference between clean, sanitized, and sterilized (just adding the third level of sanitized in there, which may give you more piece of mind – StarSan is cheap and effective). And if you’re not sterilizing the ingredients, then the glass is the least likely cause of contamination.

      • l0b0t

You’ve mentioned Star-San before and I was inspired to pick some up at Restaurant Depot/Jetro. It’s the tits! So much less expensive than the ‘bottle wash’ we were getting at Bed Bath Beyond for the SodaStream bottles, and I keep some handy for growlers. I never even thought to use it for canning; I always use the sous vide on the jars and lids. Thanks.

    • Tulip

If you are doing refrigerator pickles, and NOT canning, clean is good enough. The vinegar and salt will preserve it in the fridge for up to a month or so. If you want something shelf stable for about a year, you need to sterilize and can (pickles are ok water bath canned). Often with a pressure canner.

      • UnCivilServant

I’m not canning, and I don’t need shelf stable. Either I eat them relatively quickly, or I toss them and don’t use that recipe again.

      • Tulip

        Then clean is fine

      • pan fried wylie

        yeah, refrigerator pickles = salad

      • CPRM

What about refrigerator pickled eggs? I have a hard boiled egg I put in some pickle juice…3 months ago?…that’s safe to eat, right?

      • UnCivilServant

That does not sound like a good idea.

      • UnCivilServant

So why did you put the egg in the pickle juice?

      • CPRM

I wasn’t brave enough to pickle gristle lumps.

  10. Rebel Scum

    Don’t agree to this, Donnie.

The second presidential debate between President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden will take place virtually amid the fallout from the president’s diagnosis of COVID-19.

      • AlexinCT

It is a ridiculous thing, and now all the fucking lying donkeys are acting like Biden was always game for debates and they had not been looking for a way to avoid risking Biden showing he is senile and getting worse on TeeVee.

These people want rigged debates where they get to win the thing, and because orange man bad doesn’t let them, they prefer not to let him have his way.

Fuck everyone that says they need to do this cause of Rona. It’s a fucking excuse to hide the Biden stupidity.

    • Not Adahn

Nah, if it’s virtual, the Biden campaign won’t be able to resist telepromptering the answers and he’ll get caught by 4chan enhancing the image off of his cornea.

      It’ll be entertaining.

    • Hyperion

      ” Commission on Presidential Debates”

Who the fuck is that? It’s obviously a bunch of leftist and democrat lackeys. Fuck those people.

  11. leon

If she had won, they wouldn’t be telling you you’re a racist sexist for thinking she’s unliable.

    • leon

      unlikeable*

      • Festus' Mustache

        But she is.

      • Hyperion

She can’t be, she gave Biden a zillion point bump in the polls less than 3 minutes after the debate ended.

      • CPRM

‘Likely Democrat voters who answered the phone after 9pm and didn’t hang up, but actually talked to the pollster rated Kamala as The New Messiah.’

      • R C Dean

        Credible.

Somebody who got curbstomped in primary debates (except, perhaps, when she accused her now-running mate of racism; where’s the campaign on that, BTW?), lost her home state, and accumulated, I think, zero delegates to the nominating convention is suddenly a hignly popular and motivating candidate?

Whiskey Tech Start Up Bespoken Spirits Slams Traditional Whiskey Production Process

    https://thewhiskeywash.com/whiskey-styles/american-whiskey/whiskey-tech-start-up-bespoken-spirits-slams-traditional-barrel-aging-process/

As noted by the brand in their announcement, “in Kentucky alone, there are more than 9.1. million barrels of bourbon and other spirits aging right now — a number that has grown nearly 85% in the last ten years. Each year, nearly 20 million gallons of that product is lost to evaporation due to the wasteful, time-consuming and antiquated barrel aging process. The Bespoken Spirits method is a sustainable answer that keeps products out of wooden barrels in electricity-run rickhouses.

“Rooted in material and sustainability science, Bespoken’s proprietary ACTivation technology extracts the key elements of the barrel that enhance aroma, color and taste (ACT), managing the critical chemical reactions with precision, control, and speed, and enabling billions of bespoken recipes within days, not years.”

As a side note. Don’t buy Cleveland Bourbon, it is… not good. I’ve had friends who sung its praises, which makes me think there’s QA issues in the process which means I’m not gambling on a potentially crappy bottle for ~$40.

“Bespoke” means “custom,” generally used sartorially.

So … “Bespoken Spirits” … ? I’m not sure how a beverage meant to be distilled in large batches is “bespoke”.

      • db

Yes, bespoke is a word. I have never seen “bespoken” before, however.

      • Mojeaux the Magnificent

Me neither. I’m guessing it’s a deliberate misuse to be cute.

    Good morning, Zardoz!

Was there some sort of Brutal debate last night?

    SWEEP THE LEG.

Decent fall and recovery, though. I giver her a solid 7.

Lots of death and (potential) destruction in the lynx today.

Why yes, I do have a song!

Have a great day, people (and Stone Heads)! Let’s remember that there is nothing new under the sun and chill a little.

  15. Rebel Scum

    Oh how I have learned…

Wallace added, “Here is the other things on voters’ minds what if Trump takes a turn for the worse and this guy takes over. He had to look presidential tonight, and he just looked limp and lame.”

    …to despise Chris Wallace.

“I think going into tonight, the Biden campaign had one concern, and it wasn’t whether or not Kamala Harris was going to be sufficiently likable,” he said. “It was whether or not people were going to be able to at the end of the night to envision her as being a heartbeat away from the presidency, which she in terms of her knowledge, command of the facts, her policy, would she seem presidential? And I don’t think she did anything at all tonight to disqualify herself in that sense. So, if they came into the night leading, I think they left the night — the Biden campaign did — with the lead.”

    Astute observations, you dishonest hack.

    • Drake

I’ve always despised that hack. Even other Fox commentators have stopped hiding how biased and despicable he is.

    • leon

I’ll admit i didn’t watch the debate, i watched Malices reactions, and his thinking is different from others “mainstream” thinking. But it sounded like Pence slaughterd her. The one clip i saw Pence sounded smooth, calm and deliberate.

Wallace is a propogandist, so i’m not going to take his word for it.

  16. Pope Jimbo

Uffda. Sure glad Brother Keith is staying above the fray as Minnesoda’s AG. I’m sure he had nothing to do with a threatening letter sent to a group trying to hold a conference/talk on voter fraud. I’m sure the ACLU will be lowering the boom on the AG’s office any second now for infringing on 1A rights of private citizens.

We announced the event on Monday. Within eight hours after we sent out the first email publicizing the event, we got an email from an Assistant Attorney General in Keith Ellison’s office, inquiring as to whether we were violating Minnesota’s COVID guidelines. This is the email exchange that I had with him:

    From: Noah Lewellen
    Sent: Monday, October 05, 2020 4:07 PM
To: Peter Zeller Subject: Attorney General Contact: COVID Plan Request for “Will My Vote Count?”

    Hello:

I am an Assistant Attorney General with the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office. This Office has received a report that you are planning on hosting an event that may exceed the gathering limit currently in place under Executive Order 20-74, or that might exceed the capacity limits imposed by industry-specific guidance. I’m reaching out to request your COVID-19 Preparedness Plan.

Executive Order 20-74 requires venues like yours to establish and implement a COVID-19 Preparedness Plan using the guidance for its specific industry. EO 20-74 can be found here. Specific industry guidance for entertainment venues can be found here. If you have not yet established a Plan, you can use the State’s suggested Plan template, which can be found here. That template document can be useful in structuring your own Plan. If you do use the template, you should make sure that you refer to the guidance, linked above, and ensure that your Plan accounts for the mandates contained within the guidance. For example, the Template does not contain calculations for venue capacity, while the guidance does. It’s important that a venue’s Plan discuss the venue’s capacity, and moreover, discuss how it reached that capacity calculation (e.g., using a state-provided capacity, or using an area calculation discussed on page 12 of the guidance). You may believe that your event falls under a difference clause or different guidance than that which I’ve linked here. If so, please let me know which you believe applies and why.

I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Depending on the Plan, it may be useful for us to have a conference call with relevant State and local officials to discuss your planned events. If you’d like to have that meeting anyway, to get guidance from the State regarding your Plan or for any other reason, please let me know. These calls can be helpful to organizations because it gives them a chance to connect with the Minnesota Department of Health and Department of Labor & Industry and ask any questions they have regarding compliance.

I appreciate your attention to this matter. If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call.

    Thank you,

Styx makes this point that i made to my wife immedeately after the debate last night.

After the debate i pulled up YouTube, and what is the clip that “The Hill” wants me to see “Fly lands on pences head, goes viral”. Ok, Pence murdered her. If all they legacy media wants you to think is “The most exciting thing is that a fly landed on pences head” then they want you to avert your eyes from the wreckage of Kamala Harris.

Had exactly the same thought. Saw the fly stuff, knew it must have gone pretty poorly for her. Then came the stuff about how her expressions were so amazing. LOL, OK. She must have come across as very unlikeable, so the last resort was to capture some stills where she didn’t look the same way she came across to viewers.

She must have come across as very unlikeable, so the last resort was to capture some stills where she didn’t look the same way she came across to viewers.

She often seemed to have the wrong expression at the wrong time, as if she was trying to human but doesn’t quite know how. When she was replying to an anecdote by Pence about how the Obama/Biden administration dithered when trying to rescue an American from ISIS (leading to her death), she started off by smiling while giving condolences, instead of adopting a more appropriate somber expression.

Also, her voice, condescension, and general demeanor is annoying. I don’t think she’d ever win a national election on her own.

    Taylor Swift has thoughts

The change we need most is to elect a president who recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included. Everyone deserves a government that takes global health risks seriously and puts the lives of its people first. The only way we can begin to make things better is to choose leaders who are willing to face these issues and find ways to work through them.

I will proudly vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in this year’s presidential election. Under their leadership, I believe America has a chance to start the healing process it so desperately needs.

    Yes, but why Joe Biden?

40 year old jazz pianist Tadataka Unno has been left unable to play the piano or hold his infant, after an attack by eight people in New York.

Yahoo Japan and Sanspo report (translation: Google Translate) Unno was attacked by eight people on September 27th, after leaving a subway station near his home. One teenage boy attacked him near the ticket gate, and when he fled the others joined in the assault. Unno said one of them said something about “Chinese.” No suspects have been arrested.

No money was taken, but after being taken to hospital for emergency treatment it was discovered the attack left him with a broken right collar bone. He also suffered bruises on his head and body. Unno reportedly stated his injuries have left him unable to play the piano, or hold his four month old son.

When I first moved to NYC in 2005, the big news was a murder, committed with a machete, on a subway platform during a brawl between 2 rival gangs (1 Dominican, 1 Trini). Several wounded, 1 dead from a machete fight inside the subway station, during the early evening hours. My first thought is violent predation by feral NYC residents, not ethnic animus. Racialism may be involved but I tend to doubt it, those attacks are usually saved for the Jews.

NLRB needs to step in. Clearly the voters were intimidated by the members who voted against it. This is why they failed to unionize. Simple Majority votes are not enough to secure voter rights. We need to Unionize ALL employees as a right!

      • Nephilium

From an earlier report, NLRB has already been called in. Since Surly announced they were indefinitely closing the Beer Hall, that was clearly a retaliation against the unionization effort, and in no way related to the mass closure of restaurants, bars, and breweries that are inexplicably sweeping the nation since some time earlier this year.

    Winning hearts and minds.

On the ground in Wauwatosa for @townhallcom and some in the BLM crowd are smashing storefront windows. …

Some rioters in Wauwatosa, WI are now smashing windows of homes. People in the crowd tried to stop them from targeting homes. …

The BLM crowd marched towards a line of police officers in Wauwatosa and began to throw projectiles. Police fired tear gas and pepper balls in response. …

As the BLM crowd was marching through the neighborhoods of Wauwatosa, one man came out to tell people to get off of his property, telling them there are people who most likely support BLM. One guy drove on his yard with a motorcycle.

    • leon

But then they went on from smashing the windows of storefront businesses onto smashing the windows of private homes.

While i do think smashing windows of homes is more frightening, i don’t like the implication that we are all accustomed to people going aorund smashing windows of businesses.

      • db

Just a question: At what point would it be justified to use deadly force in a case where some members of a crowd approach a residence holding Molotov cocktails or fireworks? How close to a residence or occupied building could they get before a reasonable person would stop them by any means necessary? At what point would such a presence constitute a threat to life?

      • Rebel Scum

They draw back to throw and you can drop them before they release. imho, of course. What the legal matter is I am not sure.

      • pan fried wylie

The legal matter? After your pulse ceases.

      • leon

I don’t know man. You’re at a point where any form of self defence has been criminalized. Sure maybe the people being prosecuted right now will get off (Kyle Rittenhouse will not end up getting 1st Degree Murder conviction is my prediction), but the fact that they are being prosecuted and the people who are threatening them are getting off scott free clearly only serves to incintevize Mob Violence and individual submission to it. There is no way around this. Any Cop on a Police Force and Any DA is smart enough to know this, so we can only assume it is intentional.

Things are going to get worse before it gets better.

As for the specifics of your question, I’d say people carying around molotov coctails have nothing but the intent to arson and are always an impending threat to life and limb. It might sound harsh, but i’d say that if you are in a mob and carying molotov cocktails, you are probably fair game to be shot on sight.

Not saying you’d not go to jail, i’m just saying IMO you shouldn’t have to wait till they light the thing to say “Hey i think that guy is going to commit arson”.

      • db

I’d consider making the case that holding a lit Molotov is a serious threat. It’s a firebomb that will go off, regardless of where it’s placed. Holding one within throwing range of a residence has the potential to constitute a mortal threat.

      • leon

I think thats pretty much what i’m getting at. I don’t think you have to wait for them to be lobbing it at your front door to justify in shooting an arsonist.

      • Mojeaux the Magnificent

“Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.”

I don’t know, man. I never really thought that could be quite true, because even when I was a no-nothing 18yo in karate, I knew somehow that the process was the punishment.

      • db

True. There are plenty of other things they can co-charge with, if they don’t think they can get a trial jury to convict on the homicide charge.

Getting an indictment from a grand jury is barely a speed bump.

      • B.P.

Should Trump win reelection, this is a question a lot of people should be prepared to ask themselves. I have a steel fence and gate around my front yard, so if some members of the angry mob coming down my street are on my front lawn, they didn’t wander onto it by accident.

      • kinnath

I live out in the middle of nowhere. No one walks into our neighborhood.

      • pan fried wylie

“Your Honor, the footage clearly shows the mob endangering my family…”, can’t hurt.

      • EvilSheldon

There’s no pat answer. It’s all about what you, as the defender, can articulate in court.

Ability, Opportunity, Jeopardy. Can they hurt or kill you right at this moment, have they expressed the intention to do so, and are there no other ways out of the situation? If the answer to each of those questions is ‘Yes,’ then you are probably legally in the clear.

      • leon

Ability, Opportunity, Jeopardy. Can they hurt or kill you right at this moment, have they expressed the intention to do so, and are there no other ways out of the situation?

I understand, for de-escalation reasons, and i do think you should try to de escalate things. But I don’t think you should be punished for standing your ground.

      • kinnath

But I don’t think you should be punished for standing your ground.

Better not live where a democratic prosecutor gets to decided weather or not you should be prosecuted.

      • EvilSheldon

Nor do I. I recognize that de-escalation requires two parties, and that trying to flee will sometimes just get you shot in the back.

But I also recognise that if I shoot someone, it’s going to be fucking awful, and the precise degree of awful is gonna be mostly out of my hands. I might end up impoverished and unemployable. I might end up losing all my friends and family, who don’t want to be around a ‘murderer.’ I might end up spending the rest of my life sucking off the other convicts in the showers at Wallens Ridge.

It’s not right and it’s not fair, but I’ve never thought that the world is going to be right or fair.

So, ima do everything possible to avoid shooting someone. That includes practicing avoidance and de-escalation, whenever possible.

      • R C Dean

        Words of wisdom.

From a purely theoretical/technical perspective, I think carrying a molotov doesn’t cross the line.

Lighting it, though, should give license to anyone in range to drop them in their tracks.

Lighting it shows imminent intent to commit a violent crime that its reasonable to assume could result in death or serious injury.

And self-defense extends to defense of others. So somebody out of throwing range for the molotv has the right to drop them, in defense of others.

Of course, whether that right will be recognized in the legal (not justice) system is a different question.

      • db

I absolutely agree that de-escalation is the best policy. Best way to win a fight is not to get in one in the first place. I’m mainly thinking about situations where mob psychology takes over, and negotiation or reasoning fails.

      • db

Also, you can retreat into your home, but once a mob sets your home on fire, you are screwed.

      • R C Dean

Also, you can retreat into your home, but once a mob sets your home on fire, you are screwed.

In the extraordinarily unlikely event that I a mob shows up at my house, my “trigger” will be lit molotovs or someone trying to light one. Those will be my targets, for exactly the reason you cite. Of some help may be that AZ does not have a duty to retreat.

      • Chipwooder

I remember reading a section in one of PJ O’Rourke’s books that was about Northern Ireland in the early ’90s. One of the interviews he had with a Belfast cop always stuck with me – “This is an acceptable level of violence.” Seems that’s where we’re headed, when a certain level of violence is simply accepted as normal.

I’ve been growing more fatalistic lately. Really starting to seem that there will be two paths possible in the future – either submission to the Marxist scum, or killing. A whole lot of killing. There’s not going to be any peaceful de-escalation.

Why now may be a good time to buy a house in Switzerland

    https://www.thelocal.ch/20201007/why-now-may-be-a-good-time-to-buy-a-house-in-switzerland

Buying a house in the middle of an ongoing pandemic might not feel the wisest of ideas but there are reasons why it might be a good move in Switzerland right now.

According to a Swiss comparison portal Comparis, mortgage rates have been decreasing in the past few months, making the purchase of a house or apartment cheaper than before.

Between July and September 2020, indicative rates for 10-year fixed mortgages decreased from 1.11 percent to 1.05 percent.

For five-year loans, the rates are now set between 0.91 percent, as compared to 0.95 percent three months ago. And for two-year terms, they dropped from 0.89 to 0.86 percent.

These are significant “historically low values”, Comparis said.

Drunken rant: The US has created a society where meritocracy is considered evil and as a result you’ve got a giant underclass of dead-enders that see the only way to have meaning in their lives is to destroy the system. Of course they will fail in their stated wish to create a society where goods are distributed solely on the criteria of need because who the hell is going to determine what “need” is? How does the US deal with the multitudes of people that are basically at a dead end and are hearing the siren call of those who blame meritocracy itself? Mix in some legit unfairness in the system and it’s going to be a long haul to convince these people that there is a better way. It may not be possible at this point precisely because it takes time to build up a system based on fairness, but only the blink of an eye to destroy it.

Don’t be deceived – meritocracy is about who rules; that negates the liberty aspect.

I’d perfer people only got advanced by my say so, and that that was dependent on a large enough bribe.

      • AlexinCT

The people pissed at and desperately working to get rid of the quasi meritocratic system that used to exist, in favor of a system that removes any ability to measure their performance and hold them accountable, are the members of the credentialed expert elite class running things today (using appeal to envy & greed of those that produce nothing). These credentialed experts, inept and inefficient, are mad the serfs demand these credentialed morons actually produce value. They want an aristocratic system where they and their offspring stay in power, pick other winners and losers, and nobody can hold them accountable. No matter how fucking horrible they are.

      • Pope Jimbo

A lot of those idiots were told that if they took out giant loans and got a college degree, they’d be rolling in dough and everyone would listen to them.

Once they graduated they realized that:

        1) There are a lot more “experts” than required
        2) No one is paying what they think they “deserve”
        3) Even with a degree a job actually requires work. Hard work if you want to get ahead
        4) Those loan repayments really put a damper on what sort of fun you can have
        5) For some reason companies tend to listen to people who have real world experience and (worse) make you report to them and obey those old dinosaurs

Given that the people who find themselves “unexpectedly” in this position are the same people who have a hard time understanding what the consequences of their actions are, I’m not surprised that they are pushing for a new system. Surely this time they will be at the top of the heap.

      • AlexinCT

They are far more likely to end up at the top of the pile…

      • PieInTheSky

        You’re a braver man than I

      • Tejicano

That does sound much like a hill to die on. Especially as those are “voluntary” because they can’t legally require you to attend.

      • AlexinCT

They don’t want to make them mandatory for fear they will get sued for that that, so they are “voluntary” but attendance is checked…

This. My manager is pushing hard that we hit our “voluntary” pro Bono hours this year. Its clearly not her message, but from 2 or 3 links up the chain. Doesn’t mean that she’s not going to feel the fallout when she pushes me on the topic, but I try to keep in mind who is just a messenger and who is the real force behind the initiative.

      • AlexinCT

It is always from up the chain..

I’m trying to tie in 2020 with the 1960s, because I’ve heard comparisons. But I cannot remember the 60s because I was a little kid when we fake landed on the moon.

So I started reading the book ‘Radical Son’ to see if it makes any sense.

We know the proglodytes were around back in the 30s doing their evil. If we go by that schedule, I guess we get WWIII sometimes in the mid 2030s.

I’ve read the TMITE coverage of last night’s debate. Here it is:

A fly landed on Pence’s head.

    Camela said ‘I’m speaking!’

Fact check: Everything Pence said: FALSE!

    That’s it.

        Fact Check:

Pence just took a bunch of flimsy talking points from the Trump playbook.

        WTF does that even mean?

Harris also stretched the truth at times.

Translation: She lied out her ass every time she opened her mouth.

      • Rebel Scum

Trump’s Charlottesville comments, Trump’s taxes, green new deal, fracking, muslim ban, covid response, recent tax cuts, the economy, etc.

I see Biden got an enormous poll jump last night 5 minute after the debate.

And we thought debates, especially the VP ones, do not affect polls.

Well let me tell you, everyone watched that debate and Camela knocked it out of the park! And BAD ORANGE MAN BAD!

The polls are now controlled by an algorithm that gives a Biden Bump when an expected event is going to happen or has happened. Are they even talking to anyone? I seriously doubt it. If they are, it’s just a front. The polls are now 100% fake news.

  32. Rebel Scum

Stuff this crowd is familiar with but no harm in repeating: How Biden’s Anti-Gun Policies Go Beyond Buying AR-15s

If that sounds far-fetched, here is a direct quote from the so-called “BIDEN PLAN TO END OUR GUN VIOLENCE EPIDEMIC”: “Biden will enact legislation to prohibit all online sales of firearms, ammunition, kits, and gun parts.”

Those are his words, not ours.

“[A]ll” online sales of – not just functional firearms or ammunition or even build kits – but “gun parts” would be banned under a Joe Biden administration.

    Think about that.

We all know that experienced gun owners like to customize their firearms to their personal preferences and anatomy. We also know that certain high-wear parts will eventually need to be replaced by anyone keeping up his or her skills with regular range practice.

What is so threatening about the purchase of innocuous and commonplace parts like sights, grips, triggers, handguards, firing pins, choke tubes, plus any number of springs, screws, bushings, or other utilitarian hardware that it has to be completely banned from the Internet?

Pity the gun owner living in rural Alaska, Montana, or Wyoming who just wants to replace the stock grip panels on a revolver so it better fits his hand or to add night sights to a self-defense pistol or to change the spread of a shotgun with a new choke. Any of these usually simple operations could necessitate an hours-long round trip to the nearest gun store if Biden has his way.

    • Rebel Scum

I’ll also note the distinct lack of the topic of 2A/guns at the debates so far. I suspect the leftist moderators know it is a losing issue.

      • leon

What was it? 1 million new gun owners in 6 months? Yeah i think 2A is a loosing issue right now.

      • AlexinCT

        Progtards?

    • Tejicano

I kinda wish Trump would bring the issue up and challenge Biden to confirm his plans to restrict gun ownership – citing specific points like these above – just to get it on live TV how Biden crawfishes away from the issue.

So, my 77yo uncle died yesterday from various cancers and other diseases. No condolences, be happy. He was in a lot of pain and my aunt probably got a good night’s rest for the first time in who knows how long.

She’s in high spirits today (she always is looking on the bright side of things), but let me tell you why. My uncle was a wallpaper hanger for a living and their company vehicle of choice was a hearse. They had lots of funny stories about driving the hearse (including how scared some people were of death/hearses). They’ve lived in Charlotte for 50 years, as that’s where they moved to get away from my uncle’s dad and my gma, and they are going to have a memorial for him on his birthday (12/31), which is slated to be a big blowout party. I said, “That’s very southern of you.”

But the hearse story that always stands out to me is when my cousin started driving to school in one. After school, he would leave the parking lot first, turn on his lights, let everybody else line up behind him, and he would lead the “funeral” procession out of the school parking lot.

Anyway, if I drank, I’d toast one to my quirky Uncle Frank. *raises glass of ice water*

Sounds like a great guy! If I ever die, I want people to have a good time remembering me.

    That’s great!

I can remember a similar situation with a good friend’s mother in HS. She’d suffered for so long. I recall chatting with him in the church at the casket with us all actually feeling better because it meant the suffering for both his mother and the rest of us would finally start to end.

    • Mojeaux the Magnificent

Yeah, I think the caretakers get lost in people’s minds. My aunt was exhausted taking care of him and it’s as much a release for her as it is for him.

“Hey, now you don’t have to stay up all night being a full-time nurse” is better.

Uhuru will decide Mt Kenya succession, Kikuyu elders say

    https://www.msn.com/en-xl/africa/other/uhuru-will-decide-mt-kenya-succession-kikuyu-elders-say/ar-BB19Mhne

Kikuyu elders have said there is no political vacuum in Mt Kenya and have warned leaders against engaging in early campaigns.

Speaking at a press briefing at Bowling Green restaurant in Nairobi, the national chairman of the Kikuyu Council of Elders Kimani Maigua said those who have been camping in several regions endorsing leaders should stop as they are disturbing the existing peace. He cited the Kenol violence on Sunday where two people died.

“The President is the kingpin of Mt Kenya region and when the “Michuki” period comes, the community will pronounce itself accordingly, ” he said.

The national and county leadership of the council of elders and Kiama Kiama are the twin leadership groups within Mt Kenya region.

The magnitude of this failure is astonishing. According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering,1 the United States leads the world in Covid-19 cases and in deaths due to the disease, far exceeding the numbers in much larger countries, such as China. The death rate in this country is more than double that of Canada, exceeds that of Japan, a country with a vulnerable and elderly population, by a factor of almost 50, and even dwarfs the rates in lower-middle-income countries, such as Vietnam, by a factor of almost 2000. Covid-19 is an overwhelming challenge, and many factors contribute to its severity. But the one we can control is how we behave. And in the United States we have consistently behaved poorly.

We know that we could have done better. China, faced with the first outbreak, chose strict quarantine and isolation after an initial delay. These measures were severe but effective, essentially eliminating transmission at the point where the outbreak began and reducing the death rate to a reported 3 per million, as compared with more than 500 per million in the United States. Countries that had far more exchange with China, such as Singapore and South Korea, began intensive testing early, along with aggressive contact tracing and appropriate isolation, and have had relatively small outbreaks. And New Zealand has used these same measures, together with its geographic advantages, to come close to eliminating the disease, something that has allowed that country to limit the time of closure and to largely reopen society to a prepandemic level. In general, not only have many democracies done better than the United States, but they have also outperformed us by orders of magnitude.

For some strange reason, nowhere in the article do they mention Sweden.

      • kbolino

If you look at Europe and the Americas, in nowhere that is remotely comparable to the U.S. has there been “orders of magnitude” better results. There’s a cluster of countries around the U.S. and another around Canada, and that second cluster is primarily less populated countries. Precisely zero of the “best” 25 countries are in Europe or the Americas. Japan is the closest thing to a comparable country they’ve got but it’s also an island chain and so they’ve got considerably more control over entry and exit.

These people want us to emulate a fascist, authoritarian regime with no independent media to verify that the numbers are accurate, the crackdown measures had no unintended consequences, there were no human rights abuses, etc. They shouldn’t just be ignored, they should be denounced as traitors to liberal democracy.

“Biden won’t be president for two months, he’s not mentally capable of being president, everybody knows that … and this monster that was on stage with Mike Pence who destroyed her by the way … everything she said was a lie,” Trump said.

The president reminded the audience that Harris was rated further left than self-described Democrat socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders.

    “She’s a communist, she’s not a socialist, she’s well beyond a socialist,” Trump said.

She is the worst, maybe ever.

    • Hyperion

Biden won’t be president for 1 month because he’ll get a knife in the back or some cyanide in his Geritol and vodka toddy.

Apparently, Camel is the chosen one.

      • R C Dean

I’m liking the theory that they leave him in office until the midterms, so Kamala can be eligible for two full terms after she serves out Biden’s term.

If they capture the Senate and hold the House, by 2024 the election process should be sufficiently restructured to make the Presidency a Democrat property.

      • SugarFree

Even my doom-oriented mind hadn’t considered that yet. I mean, assuming they can get two years out of him.

      • Tejicano

RBG’s handlers snicker at your comment.

    • OBJ FRANKELSON

Giving her an ideological motiive is probably giving her too much credit. Harris will do or say anything to have more access to the levers of power.

  43. Hyperion

So, the polls now have the dems so far ahead in the House, the Senate, and POTUS, that it is impossible they don’t get a supermajority again next year.

Ponder that. You’d better have a major boating accident planned after Nov 3 and probably best to just move here:

    • leon

So given that Biden wins, how long does he make it after being declared the winner before he no longer holds the office of president? 1 week? 1 Month? Does he make it to inauguration?

      • Hyperion

        Less than 2 months.

      • Pope Jimbo

I think you are underestimating Jill Biden. No way you are going to dig her out of the White House that quickly.

      • Ownbestenemy

Thats Hero Doctor Jill Biden to you peasant.

    • Florida Man

At least now I know where I’ll die. Asleep in my bed…shot during a no knock firearm sweep.

    • Drake

      Does anyone believe those polls?

      • R C Dean

        House and Senate? Who knows.

I do think that at least some polls are being used as battlespace prep to either fend off claims of voter fraud if Dems win, or makes claims of cheating if Repubs win, though.

      • The Other Kevin

That’s my thought. They may or may not have “accurate” polls that aren’t made public, but I think they’re preparing themselves for the possibility of Trump winning. In that case, the plan will be to claim he cheated, and these polls putting Biden up by double digits will be part of the evidence.

      • R C Dean

I wonder how many early voters are going to be calling in and asking if they can get a new ballot and change their vote?

Its gotta be non-zero, although I bet its not very many.

      • Drake

Either way, this guy going down in flames will at least hold the Senate for Republicans.

      • R C Dean

Maybe not. McSally looks like a second-time loser in AZ right now. So the two races nullify each other as far as control of the Senate goes.

AZ has somehow transitioned from a Red state to a deep Purple state. One Dem and one Repub Senator (soon to be two Dem Senators), a majority Dem House delegation (5-4), and a Repub state government.

      • Hyperion

        Nate Silver.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

        No

There’s no way voter polling is swinging that wildly this close to an election.

      • Florida Man

Maybe. I keep vacillating on Trump. I really don’t like him, but I’m afraid of the Dems, so I go between voting for OMB or leaving it blank.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

I’ve resigned myself to no good choices, so I’m going to pick the slowest road to the gulags.

      • SUPREME OVERLORD trshmnstr

        It’s almost 100% due to

        1) low sample size
        2) adjustments to their weighting algorithms; and
        3) variability within the margin of error

      • leon

The fact that (as some have pointed out here) some of these pollsters are not adjusting the partisan makeup of the election throws a lot into question.

      • SUPREME OVERLORD trshmnstr

I’m skeptical of the weighting in the first place. A lot rides on the accuracy of their presumptions

      • Pope Jimbo

Maybe it is because of the fact that KEN BONE IS VOTING FOR JORGENSON!!!!!

6 feet with mask stops covid in its tracks. I mean, that’s what the science says. Why shouldn’t Biden follow the science?

      • Count Potato

Masks are a bad idea for a debate. No idea why negative air pressure wouldn’t work, even if Trump had super ebola.

      • Ownbestenemy

No that has changed now. CDC revised and say can travel up to 12 feet!

    • Ownbestenemy

Imagine if the media, and I know, it is the DM, actually stuck to honest criticism of Trump, I would probably fall over and die.

  45. Ownbestenemy

Telemundo deletes their Twitter insta-poll after 16000 votes and Pence winning the debate.

Either they realized twitter polls are a bad idea and the Trump team has a solid digital game -or- they didn’t expect their readership to like Pence.

    • leon

Didn’t they have a poll with 60% of viewers saying Trump won the debate?

      • Ownbestenemy

Yep. Not that it means anything..neven whoever is left reading Drudge had Pence winning it .

Either no one is lying or everyone is.

      • Hyperion

Drudge is still a thing? Why?

    • Count Potato

Or maybe Hispanics don’t like being explained what words mean?

      • Florida Man

My in laws are legal immigrant Hispanics. They hate illegals because they cheated to get in and don’t respect the laws of the land. Some of them are conservative and some progressives, but all of them hate the fence jumpers.
