Friday Afternoon Post-Op Links

get a load of these doped up links, man

“Sexy Hospital Gown.” Lol. Damn, too late for Halloween.

Don’t worry, I didn’t lose a leg or anything.

And I didn’t have any unfortunate encounters with moist eggs recently…

I’ve got support from my family, at least–unlike what’s happening in this messy situation.

Meanwhile, in Local News™, we have this with a hat-tip to jesse.in.mb.

And some good news on a Friday, too!

Make of this what you will, while you’re at it.

Of course the links wouldn’t be complete without something to listen to…

Alright, back to my pills!

The late Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain would have wanted Joe Biden to be recognized and supported as President-elect, his widow Cindy McCain said Friday, as President Donald Trump and other GOP leaders have largely refused to acknowledge the results of the election.
Cindy McCain believes her husband, who passed away in 2018, would be telling his Republican colleagues, “It is time that we move on. It’s time that we heal, it’s time that we support our President-elect,” she told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota on Friday.

  7. Jerms

I take Kratom which is a legal over the counter painkiller, been taking it for a few years, not for pain, but it gives me energy and puts me in a good mood.

Last month i had a very involved jaw sugery where they detached my upper and lower jaw and moved them forward about an inch to help with terrible sleep apnea.
Brutal surgery and i thought i’d be ok because i stocked up on extra percs and viccadin. The pIn was so bad even though i was popping 7-10 10mg pills at a time, couldnt figure out how anyone could get through this type of pain–turned out that the Kratom uses the same receptors as opiods and renders them useless. Didnt figure this out until 2 weeks in. Terrible experience.

    • Hyperion

You can forget about that after Biden bans it.

    • Hyperion

Kratom is a … different thing.

It depends a lot on where you get it, the quality of the source and the strain you’re using. Sort of like weed I guess.

It’s a very mild effect for sure, but can be nice if you get it right.

The problem I had with it, is that only a little bit too much would give me terrible nausea, which ruined the experience completely.

      • Jerms

Yeah you need to get the dose right for sure, gave a little to my wife and she swears i tried to poison her. Sick in bed for hours.

      • Hyperion

Yeah. She may be sensitive to opiates like I am. I cannot even take the lowest dose of any type opiate without literally being violently ill for at least 24 hours. I’m talking projective vomiting and total misery.

At least I can never be addicted to opiates. Alcohol however, different story.

      • Kwihn T. Senshel

For me, certain strains make the difference: Morphine, no problem. Dilaudid (synthetic morphine)? Panic attacks. Like, roll-out-of-the-bed-flailing panic attacks.

      • Hyperion

For me, all opiates cause severe nausea.

      • Tonio

        “Dilaudid…now there’s a man’s drug.”

        Also, Fuck Off, Tulpa.

      • Kwihn T. Senshel

      • Toxteth O'Grady

Are y’all taking them with food? I disregarded the oral surgeon’s instruction only once (managed not to spew).

      • Count Potato

You’re supposed to crush them up and snort them.

      • blackjack

If you were serious, you’d crush them, mix them with dirty water, draw them (through a cigarette filter) into a syringe with one of those plastic grapes for a suction device, after bending the handle of the spoon and blackening the bottom heating the mixture with a whole book of matches, to sterilize it. That’s if you were serious.

    • robc

Things like that (not necessary Krotom, but I have heard of it with other drugs) can cause overdoses. Someone keeps upping their dosage until the pain meds work, but because the receptors were full, most of the opiod was just getting peed out. Then they go off the over-the-counter drug and keep taking the same dose of the opoid and oopsie, they are dead.

Just saying be careful. Obviously you did it right 2 weeks ago.

    • limey

      Detached your upper jaw? ?

      • Jerms

Upper and lower jaw. Moved them forward–it actually worked, haven snored since and have bivid dreams every night for the first time ever. I wish i knew how to post a pic of my xray i have little plates and screws all throughout my skull.

      • Jerms

Thanks man. Im almost all the way back.

    • deadhead

I had the same surgery and initially they put me in the ICU where a nurse would come into the room and look at my heart-rate before giving me morphine. If my HR was too low, she’d actually hang around for it to rise, because she knew she couldn’t give it to me when it was too low and she didn’t want to be out and about when it got high enough to administer my next dose. Waiting for that next dose really sucked, but…

…after I got out of the ICU I was still in a hospital bed when a doctor came in and discussed the upcoming pain meds with me. My recollection is that he told me they had an oral and an injected one and asked which of the two I wanted. I asked which was strongest. I was told the one that it was the one they injected into my ass, so I said “that’s the one I want.” Indeed, that’s the one I got. However …

… sometime later a nurse or tech. came in and offered me the oral painkillers. I said “No, I elected to get the shot.” I was told I was supposed to take them. I argued and eventually “won”. The guy shook his head and left. The pain got really bad, but eventually I got another shot. Then … another offer of pills (or perhaps it was liquid; this was a zillion years ago and I was pretty out of it) and another fight that I won. I don’t remember how many times it happened, but it was agony.

Next day, the doctor comes in and asked how my night was. I said it really sucked, I was in extreme pain for a long time between when a shot would wear off and when I got my next one. He then asked me about the oral painkillers, because … in my delirium, I had totally misunderstood the conversation we had had. They weren’t asking me to make a choice; they were just telling me that they were going to alternate between the two.

Boy, that sucked, but not as bad as when I had been discharged and was on Lortab and ran out. I had looked at how much I had left and figured that since I try to wean myself off stuff like that, I could make it through the weekend with the amount I had. I figured if I guessed wrong, I’d just get the refill. I guessed wrong and went to get the refill and was told no refills w/o contact with the doctor. WTF!?! OK, so contact my Doctor! … turns out he was unavailable for the (three day) weekend. No bueno. I wound up in a lot of pain and had “mild” opiate withdrawal symptoms on top of that.

      I got better.

    Florida woman.

A woman in the United States who was arrested for public masturbation just a few weeks ago has been arrested again for the same offence.

Vanessa Lee Jones was completely naked when she was seen thoroughly enjoying herself by passers-by outside a chicken shop in St Petersburg, Florida.

According to the St Petersburg police arrest paperwork, Jones, 38, showed no sign of being drunk or under the influence of drugs, and there was no evidence of mental health issues.

Nevertheless, she was observed outside Popeye’s Fried Chicken at 10am entirely naked and touching herself.

A California judge ordered San Diego to reopen strip clubs even as local officials crack down on churches.

San Diego Superior Court judge Joel R. Wohlfeil ordered the state to end any actions that prevent the clubs from “being allowed to provide live adult entertainment,” according to the decision. The owners of two strip clubs argued that their business is legally protected speech guaranteed by the First Amendment—the same argument that churches have been making about their own services.

The judge’s decision is not final as that in a full hearing, which will occur at the end of the month, but it temporarily allows the strip clubs to reopen for indoor services, as other institutions close. In their legal complaint, strip-club owners argued they have complied with social distancing requirements. They also warned that another shutdown would mean financial ruin. The judge temporarily sided with them.

Senator Elizabeth Warren has called on President-elect Joe Biden to cancel billions of dollars in student loan debt early into his administration.

The Massachusetts Democrat—whose name has been floated for treasury secretary—posted a Twitter thread on Thursday morning explaining some of the “big changes that a Biden-Harris administration can achieve on day one.”

“1. Biden-Harris can cancel billions of dollars in student loan debt, giving tens of millions of Americans an immediate financial boost and helping to close the racial wealth gap,” Warren wrote. “This is the single most effective executive action available for a massive economic stimulus.”

Sure, why not? It’s only scraps of paper pixie dust.

  15. limey

Carried over from previous post because I just want to remind everyone what a negative nelly I am:

I’m not sure any of the videos would stand up on their own as being absolutely showing what is claimed beyond all reasonable doubt. I think there will also be grounds on which the defense will have much of the video evidence thrown out or seriously called into question for a jury. In legal terms, as they say, it’s not what you know, it’s what you can prove. I’m sure I sound like the contrarian’s contrarian playing Devil’s advocate for the Devil himself, but I’m not at all confident that anything substantial will actually be admissible in court. Likewise I don’t hold much hope for the witness testimony, partly because it’s often very easy for any competent lawyer to cast serious doubt on whether the sky is blue, (and they will have the best) but also because of certain extra-judicial activity such as perhaps someone paying them a visit; the sort of person connected to those well positioned to acquire the necessary information to make witness protection a waste of time and money. That or they might well meet a similar fate to Seth Rich right off the bat. Remember. If the people you are testifying against are capable of pulling off such a fraud on such a massive scale, they wouldn’t think twice, and would be perfectly capable of eighty-sixing you with every degree of deniability and impunity.

Having said that, I’m not a legal scholar, and I anxiously await some highly-informed and considered analysis both from Richard Epstein (radio silent as yet), and the practising and law-adjacent glibs.

    • Suthenboy

I would point out that this isn’t about who won, it is about the credibility of elections in the mind of the public, but I dont expect the left to understand that.

“That doesn’t matter we got more votes. We won!”

During a press conference Friday, Governor Kate Brown announced a statewide two-week freeze, and implemented new measures to limit group activities in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus.

According to the governor’s office, the two-week freeze measures will be in effect from Nov. 18 through Dec. 2, statewide.

Officials say these risk reduction measures are critical in limiting the spread of coronavirus, reducing risk in communities more vulnerable to serious illness and death, and helping conserve hospital capacity.

    The two-week freeze measures include:

Limit gatherings (indoors and outdoors) to no more than six people total, and from no more than two households.
Limit faith-based gatherings to a maximum of 25 people indoors, or 50 people outdoors.
Restaurants and bars will be take-out only.
Gyms and fitness organizations will be closed
Indoor recreational facilities, museums, indoor entertainment activities, and indoor pools and sports courts will also be closed, along with outdoor recreational facilities, zoos, gardens, aquariums, outdoor entertainment activities, and outdoor pools.
Grocery stores and pharmacies will be set to a maximum of 75% capacity, along with retail stores and malls.
Urges businesses to work from home as much as possible
Prohibiting indoor visiting in long-term care facilities.

I’m in WA. Since May my church has been meeting outdoors, in part to allow everyone that wants to be there to assemble together at one time. Don’t want to split the services. Even as the weather’s gotten much colder, we’ve been sticking it out, hoping to not have to (1) wear masks all the time, or (2) divide everyone up, as the interior of the church would only fit about 20% of congregants under distancing mandates.

Really hoping Inslee doesn’t use this as reason-by-example to force more restrictions, but I’m afraid that won’t be the case.

Facebook is so paranoid about people questioning the official election narrative that they are flagging weather data — from the National Weather Service no less. Richmond is experiencing river flooding and FB flagged the river level graph with a link to “see election results.” Looks like they are auto-flagging any type of chart or graph.

It’s almost like they don’t like people questioning the media narrative and have gone overboard.

I listened to the Cavuto bit where he interrupted the broadcast of Kayleigh Mckenanananana (i don’t know how to spell her name), and it was just so obviously propoganda. “Ladies and gentlemen, i cannot in good conscience allow you to hear what she is saying”. That was creepy.

Give me infantilization, or give me death

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy pleaded with coronavirus-fatigued residents Thursday to keep following health guidelines, bluntly telling them the ultimate inconvenience is “when you die.”

Murphy rattled off a series of numbers showing how the virus is spiking in New Jersey before a reporter asked what he’d say to state residents tired of Covid-19 protocols.

“You know what’s really uncomfortable and annoying? When you die. That’s my answer,” the exasperated governor shot back.

I can’t think of anything I’d like to see more than the lockdown cultists dying en masse. Painfully.

    • kbolino

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy pleaded with coronavirus-fatigued residents Thursday to keep following health guidelines, bluntly telling them the ultimate inconvenience is “when you die.”

My only regret is that I have but one life to waste for my Governor.

    • Suthenboy

I am tired of hearing about cases, not severity of symptoms. Besides, their numbers are bullshit.

      • Hyperion

As you should be. We’ve had the cold virus for as long as we can remember and that’s what the vid basically is. It will mutate also. This is all control freak bullshit.

      • Urthona

Not me. I’m cheering the new cases. We’re not even close to overrunning hospital capacity. Let’s finally get some real numbers and get through this bullshit.

  23. The Late P Brooks

Of coronavirus tests administered Sunday in New Jersey, 12.02 percent came back positive, and on Wednesday there were 1,827 Covid-19 hospitalizations in the Garden State — the most since June 4, according to state data.

Oh, okay then. That tells me everything I need to know,

    • C. Anacreon

This took a few seconds to find on the internet:

There are 72 acute care hospitals in New Jersey. Combined, they have 20,175 acute care beds.

Thus, covid patients are taking up less than 10% of the state’s hospital beds.

Once again, it’s Mainer’s Law in action — when percentages are low, use raw numbers; when raw numbers are low, use percentages — to make your scary point.

IOW, there’s no evidence of any threat to medical care in the state, why are they freaking out?

      • R C Dean

That’s probably a count of licensed beds; most hospitals don’t even own as many beds as they are licensed for. But the limiting factor on hospital capacity is staff. No telling how many staffed beds they have. Of course, you can increase staff with travelers and independent contractors.

You subdivide again by kind of beds – ICU, pediatric, etc. Although in a crisis just about everything other than NICU beds are fungible. We were even talking about using our ORs for COVID patients during our peak in July.

With all that in mind, NJ probably has plenty hospital capacity. Keep in mind, if hospitals don’t average around, call it 80% capacity, they go broke, so even without COVID they don’t have all that many empty beds. You can make more capacity by restricting surgery, of course. My eyeball is that NJ hospitals are probably feeling some stress right now.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

RC, though The Hospital is a bizarre movie, it was quite educational. What you must go through (I realize your job title is quite different).

      • zwak

Oregon is doing a version of it also, No solid facts, but “running low on ventilators, ICU beds, etc” But four doctors! Four! telling us it is dire.

      • R C Dean

        Ventilators can be acquired overnight.

ICU beds aren’t quite so easy, but most hospitals converted regular beds to ICU beds during the first wave, and can do it again. The biggest issue is having negative pressure rooms. Which they should have set up from the first wave.

      • blackjack

The biggest issue is all the actually sick people who are too scared to get treatment.

    • mrfamous

“COVID hospitalizations” have become a notoriously BS number. If you’re in the hospital, and test positive for COVID, you’re a COVID hospitalization. Your broken leg no longer matters.

      • R C Dean

We do test everybody who comes through the doors. Except visitors. Hospitals are full of high-risk patients for the ‘Vid, after all.

      • mrfamous

As well you should. I’m just saying that the news articles rarely give context as to what many of these “COVID hospitalizations” are; IE cases where the COVID had little to nothing to do with their being hospitalized.

      • LCDR_Fish

I’ve been to UVA Hospitals for multiple appointments this year….well mostly physical therapy or an MRI and I never got tested. I have to take a test before going on a ship for an inspection next month though – apparently they have a new one that doesn’t swab your brain, just your nostrils.

    Good news, everyone!

The latest coronavirus vaccine developments have brightened the outlook for the U.S. economy, with UBS economists boosting their GDP forecasts for the country.

Pfizer and BioNTech announced Monday that their Covid-19 vaccine was more than 90% effective in preventing the infectious disease. The announcement fueled optimism that the pandemic could come to an end sooner rather than later, driving up stock markets globally.

    ——-

“We might get a situation where reported cases of Covid in the United States fall very close to zero in Q2 (second quarter) of next year. That six month difference, that two-quarter difference matters a lot, it means an extra 1 to 1.25 percentage point gain in GDP next year,” Seth Carpenter, chief U.S. economist at UBS, told CNBC’s Joumanna Bercetche on Thursday.

He added that the vaccine news “was very encouraging” because the efficacy rate came in much higher than analysts were anticipating.

More models, more assumptions, more imaginary numbers; more garbage in, more garbage out. I don’t believe this one either.

They’ve compared it to the Spanish Flu, when entire families were killed by it and the death rate was so high that people reported they couldn’t bury them fast enough and they were stacked up like cordwood in front on their houses. Entire families.

This shit is a fucking cruel joke on humanity as a whole. A lot of people need to be held accountable because of this.

      • Suthenboy

It is a tool for fear, fear to be used for grabbing power. That is all.

        ^^^This.

And they have no idea of how to rebuild it because they’re morons. A pox on all of them. I hope Biden’s final days of life are beyond miserable. Lie in the bed you made, fool.

      • Mostly Peaceful JaimeRoberto

I don’t directly know anyone who has it either. I know of people second or third hand, most of whom caught it in other countries and none of whom died. Conversely, my father’s uncle died of the Spanish flu.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Huh, my mom’s uncle died on a troop ship on the way back.

      • robc

I have recentlyvknown a few people who had it…mild flu.

      • mrfamous

I know one guy and then his wife. He spent his quarantine jogging on the treadmill. Only symptom was a brief loss of the sense of smell.

It’s also worth noting as time goes on that these viruses _never_ get more severe, they only weaken. We have badly screwed the pooch on all of this, and I’m deathly afraid this is the “new normal” for each new virus that comes along.

      • Jarflax cancelled Cancelled

I don’t think so. This whole reaction depended on our amazing wealth carrying us through without the general public missing meals or otherwise feeling the pinch. A lot of our wealth at this point is smoke and mirrors. You cannot borrow 1/5 to 1/3 of GDP for “stimulus’ for years on end.

So, Oregon is going back on lockdown, due to a raging ‘Rona.

Starting… Wednesday. Because the virus is sneaky but patient enough to let us get groceries this weekend.

Biden’s up 63 thousand in PA, you have ~1000 more geezers voting this years, even assuming that all the excess is fraudulent and all for Biden you’ll need 63 more similar “proofs” of fraud. it aint happening unless this is the time that Rudy really does have the “damning’ evidence he always claims to have and then somehow never shows.

      • Brochettaward

I don’t know. He had pretty damning evidence on Hunter and Joe on that laptop. The media just wasn’t going to touch it.

      • The Hyperbole

Did he actually show the evidence or was it all “I have this and I’ve seen that”. When he was on Kennedy’s show she asked him to let her people see it and he wouldn’t, he agreed to let her “come to his office” and look at it (which I don’t know if she took him up on or not) but if it’s such damning evidence why not just give it to everyone?

They also had a pearl-clutching story about the “right-wing terrorist” plan to kidnap Whitmer. (No mention that they already outed as Antifa) They listed their plans in the screen and I lol’d. Step 1 was to recruit 200 men.

  35. Gadfly

I read an interesting article today from Politico where they interviewed a Democratic operative who worked on the second Obama campaign about the topic of How 2020 Killed Off Democrats’ Demographic Hopes. I thought the guy had some pretty astute analysis. Some choice excerpts:

There is a broader trend, though, that as college-educated white people become a larger share of the Democratic coalition and a larger share of the Democratic voice, they do pull the party on cultural issues. Non-college educated white people have more culturally in common with working-class Black and working-class Hispanic voters. So, it should be unsurprising that as the cultural power of college-educated white people increases in the Democratic Party, non-white voters will move against us.

So, the long-term trend probably is toward racial depolarization. And I think that’s really interesting and surprising. Racial [political] polarization had been steadily increasing from 1992 up until 2016; 2016 is when it reversed course, and a lot of people thought that was an aberration. But 2018 and 2020 show it’s not. It is very strange, in some ways, that Donald Trump kicked off an era of racial depolarization.

    • Urthona

Yeah, They’ve been thinking this for my entire life. Never gonna happen. The parties will keep shifting around to pick off votes.
