Now I have to figure out how to get him to hit the ANY key.

We are midway through on the most useless of workweeks here in America.  I have a backup holding down the fort while I figure out something better to do

I like to use this time to consider why I am thankful:

I am thankful I will not be waiting on a China plague vaccine until the end of next year like they are in Mexico.  Just buy one of the three we have guys…

I am thankful I am out of free articles from the New York Times, who argue Biden can inspire Latin America.  Idiots, he can’t inspire …. lets make the end of this sentence a contest… he can’t even inspire____ to ____.  Best response wins a prize slightly more valuable than being first.

I am thankful I am not a Wal-Mart shareholder.

I am thankful United Airlines to begin flights to Latin America, with certain conditions.  Now fleeing the country just got that much easier.

I’m thankful the Pope is a moron, so I have an excuse to post this picture…

Finally, I am thankful Guatemalans proved to be better at being American than actual Americans.  Now we have no excuse.

For tunes today:  I know these guys are posers, but whatever.

But just below that elite level there is concern bordering on panic — depending on who you talk to — about the perceived lack of outreach to many campaign alumni. “There’s real doubt about whether they will be taken care of,” said the Biden adviser.

In that picture, he really does look like the old pervert from Family Guy.

    • leon

“The Obama staffers are now cutting out the people who got Biden elected,” said a senior Biden official channeling the feelings of the old guard of the Biden campaign, who requested anonymity for the obvious reason. “None of these people found the courage to help the VP when he was running and now they are elevating their friends over the Biden people. It’s f—– up.”

Hahahahah. And the Progressives are still holding out that he will actually nominate Bernie to some cabinet position.

It would be funny to see how many GOP never trumpers he hires on. I have to imagine for the grifters that that was the game all along,

      • Gustave Lytton

Senior Biden official? He hadn’t bran sworn in yet.

    • leon

Some of the factionalism forming is related to Biden’s long career. Not everyone involved with helping him get to the White House formally worked on the campaign. There are Biden Senate staffers, Biden vice presidential staffers, Biden presidential primary staffers, and Biden general election staffers. Some people straddle multiple eras. The current fears about the transition being taken over by the previous generation of Obama staffers who make up Washington’s permanent establishment are coming from a younger set of Biden true believers who chose to work for him in early 2019 even when all of the cool young operatives were flocking to Beto and Bernie and Warren.

He’s just so good and has been around so long, that these things happen.

      • Gadfly

a younger set of Biden true believers who chose to work for him in early 2019 even when all of the cool young operatives were flocking to Beto and Bernie and Warren

Somehow, this seems like the most depressing thing I’ve read all day. In fairness, I haven’t read any news today until the links up top, but it still seems sad that there are a bunch of young Biden true believers.

      • Mad Scientist

True believers of every stripe project their own hopes and dreams onto the thing they believe in. That makes Joe particularly easy to believe in since he doesn’t stand for anything.

      Joe Biden. DC outsider.

“…are coming from a younger set of Biden true believers who chose to work for him in early 2019 even when all of the cool young operatives were flocking to Beto and Bernie and Warren.”

I guess there are Biden true believers not named Jill or Hunter.

I’ve been giving some idle thought to the factions within the Dems, especially as folks argue that Biden won’t serve out his term. My thought is predicated on the idea that Biden & Harris don’t like each other personally, it’s a mutual use society. Second, it seems unlikely to me that Biden’s backers and staffers see eye-to-eye with all of Harris’ backers & staffers.

If any of that is correct, I suspect a lot of the next four years is going to be the factions inside the White House jockeying for power with Biden’s people desperate to keep him in place to save their own seats at the table.

      • B.P.

…with the media playing the part of Lieutenant Frank Drebin. “Move along, nothing to see here!”

      • Gadfly

Alternatively, if the factionalism gets too great we might be treated to the sight of the left-wing media picking sides and sniping with leaks from each of the teams. That could be fun, and probably the only way we’ll get much of the press to try to hold the new president accountable.

        Amen.

    • Ted S.

If you want a different but interesting example of how the media are the enemy, listen to this report.

I like to listen to various international sources, and in the RSS feed there was what sounded like an interesting story about the port of Auckland going through a backlog, which I’d have assumed was coronavirus-related. The reporterette doesn’t seem to want the story, instead constantly interrupting the spokesman. And then there’s one case where the guy thinks she’s finished her question and starts answering, to which she replies “Hear me out”. No, lady, you’ve been interrupting constantly, why should people treat you the same way?

      • Raven Nation

I’ve been missing the RNZ stuff since they appeared to drop their “Week in Review” podcast some months back. But I’ve recently started listening to clips from Checkpoint and Morning Report.

The thing that strikes me about RNZ (and NZ reporters in general) is that I’m not even sure they’re biased in the normal meaning of that word. They appear to be genuinely unaware that there are legitimate, defensible counter-positions to their views.

That said, listening to them trying to work with NZ First when they went into coalition with Labour was hilarious.

      • zwak

That is kind of a worse bubble. If they are reporters and not propagandists, then they have a duty to find both sides of a story. If they assume there are no other sides when there clearly are, they are willing participants in this garbage.

      • Ted S.

Yeah, I only cherry-pick individual stories because I don’t want to listen to things that are going to make my blood pressure rise if I can avoid it. I used to try to pick a story from the ABC’s AM or PM, but recently the “individual reports” RSS feeds have gone to links to the entire program, and on a lot of days the website doesn’t have the individual stories either.

I used to listen to international broadcasters back in the day when they were all still on short-wave.

      • Raven Nation

You can get individual reports in both Checkpoint and Morning Report in their podcast feeds on iTunes (or iPodcasts or whatever it is now).

      • Ted S.

I don’t do iTunes; I do RSS because my listening involves downloading the MP3s to listen later in the day (or much later in the case of features that aren’t necessarily time dependent).

      • grrizzly

I listened to international broadcasters on my dad’s radio.

      • Ted S.

Ooh, long-wave. But nothing shorter than the 25m band? It wasn’t uncommon for stations to be in the 19m band or 17m band.

      • grrizzly

This radio model was very popular in the Soviet Union, so probably Голос Америки and Немецкая Волна didn’t use any band shorter than 25m.

More news coverage of the attempt to impeach the Clown Prince

A group of five incumbents and two newly elected Republican House members are pursuing a resolution in the 2021 legislative session to investigate the impeachment of Gov. Chris Sununu for abuse of his constitutional authority during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The request follows Sununu’s decision last week to require that people in New Hampshire wear a mask or face covering in public spaces, indoors and outdoors, when they cannot maintain at least 6 feet of social distance.

Sununu’s latest mask order does not impose any fines or punishments for those who refuse to wear one.

It also includes nine exceptions to the mandate, including students and staff in schools and anyone with a disability or medical condition who is unable to wear one.

In response to Sununu’s order, 100 protesters held signs and hosted a noisy demonstration outside Sununu’s home in Newfields last Sunday.

“This move was not taken lightly,” State Rep. Andrew Prout, R-Hudson, said in a statement. “We must restore our government to its constitutional roots – with checks and balances — where the Legislature writes the laws and the executive branch implements them.”

Maine fucking over Sunday River Brewing again

A judge Monday found a Bethel restaurant in contempt of a court order to close its doors and imposed a daily fine of $5,000 starting Tuesday if it continues to remain open.

Oxford County Superior Court Justice Thomas McKeon told the co-owners of Sunday River Brewing Co. restaurant that they had failed to adhere to his temporary restraining order from October aimed at bringing the restaurant into compliance with Gov. Janet Mills’ emergency order in response to the coronavirus pandemic. That led to McKeon’s Nov. 12 order to cease operations.

An attorney for the owners, brothers Rick and Ron Savage, said Monday night they plan to comply with the judge’s order and not open their doors until their license is no longer under suspension.

They have been punished more than your average rioter. Oh. Right. The Savages defied the State.

The future of gun control looks much like the recent past of gun control.

Biden’s gun-control plans have about zero chance of getting through Congress, especially if Republicans win at least one of the Georgia runoffs. That’s good, because his bright idea for restricting “assault weapons” would force America’s gun owners to choose between (a) giving up millions of their firearms and magazines to a federal “buyback” and (b) registering those guns with the federal government, paying billions of dollars in taxes for the privilege.

Any guesses as to how that would play out in this country?

“That was just the strangest thing to see the president come out in the briefing room, we have White House staffers shouting at us to get in our places, he wanted to walk in the room, so he was ready, wanting to walk in the briefing room before we were in our seats. We had White House wranglers and staffers telling us to sit down because the president was about to walk in. He didn’t take questions, as we all know. It is worth noting. He has been in this period of dealing with losing to Joe Biden for the last three weeks now. Still has not taken any questions from reporters. So it is hard to put the cereal back in the box after you have gone cuckoo for cocoa puffs, and I think that is the situation over here. Just the strangest, weirdest thing I have ever seen in the White House briefing room.”

What is sad is that Acosta has some personal vendeta against Trump and he’s still not the biggest name at CNN. I mean you think he could have pedled that into his own evening show or something. Kick off Stetler or Cuomo…

I always enjoy reading the Mexican links!

I bowl in a league, at least for the time being, at a family owned/operated bowling center. They almost went under during the spring lock down. 2 weeks ago the County levied new restrictions on bars and restaurants, no more indoor dining or drinking – carry out only. Since they derive much of their income on beer and food sales they are scared shitless the County will find some pretext to shut them down again. So they no longer sell buckets or pitchers of beer. You can still order a bucket of beer but you will get 6 beers on serving tray – sans ice. Draft beer sold in cups only. They still sell food but instead of putting the food on a plate they serve it in a to-go box. They also require all bowlers to wear a mask while bowling – before the latest restrictions you didn’t have to wear a mask while launching your gutter ball. There were a few bowlers who protested but the majority of us understand how terrified the owners are of being put out of business. They have told us they can’t survive another shutdown – if the County closes them down again they are giving up, they are out of cash reserves. Makes my blood boil.

OK, now I’m pissed. The DFL and GOP are squabbling over Lockdown relief plans.

Why? Why would the GOP play this game? Their relief plan should be a) end the lockdown and b) end Walz’s emergency rule. But no, they want to give away $400M and (maybe) re-open gyms immediately.

I know people are hurting, but the GOP are going to get rolled on this. The DFL will give out gobs of cash to everyone, the GOP will get nothing of substance and Walz will talk about how he has bipartisan support for his policies.

    • leon

Sometimes you got to make mistakes before you can learn from them. The Dems learned from 2016 and brought it all to the Table.

We’ll see if the GOP adjusts in 2022 and 2024.

      • Fatty Bolger

Yep. Trump turned their own tools against them in 2016. They weren’t going to let that happen again.

    From the dead thread:

Just got back from my local Lowes…. starting to see more acts of defiance. The county I live in has a mask mandate and Lowes requires masks to enter. I encountered two men browsing the aisles with no masks. I only saw them for a few seconds but it appeared to me that other people they passed by really didn’t give a hoot. No remarks, no moving away in terror, not even a stink eye.

Oh, to live somewhere with even one other rebellious person shopping.

Went into a Target today to get a folding table. Girl at the entrance asked, “Do you have a mask, sir?”

I nodded back politely, “Yes, I do.” Kept on briskly walking, sans mask. You want me to not shop at your store, you need to explicitly ask me to put on a mask. No one else in the store that I saw was unmasked. Austin is full of sheeple.

A dozen grocery stores around the state have been forced to close their doors after multiple employees test positive for COVID-19.

Under Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s public health order, businesses with four or more rapid responses in a 14-day period have to shut down for two weeks.

As KOB 4 previously reported, the closures affect several essential business including grocery stores in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Roswell, Carlsbad, Farmington, Hobbs and Las Cruces.

      It’s important.

The conclusion is not that asymptomatic spread is rare or that the science is uncertain. The study revealed something that hardly ever happens in these kinds of studies. There was not one documented case. Forget rare. Forget even Fauci’s previous suggestion that asymptomatic transmission exists but not does drive the spread. Replace all that with: never. At least not in this study for 10,000,000.

        Ahem, they’re dikes.

      • Jarflax

Dikes (dykes everywhere except US and Canada) to hold back the flood can be built by dykes who cut the wire needed for the construction using Dykes brand diagonal cutters sometimes called dikes or dykes.

    • l0b0t

For me, there is a bit of anxiety as well. Seeing large swaths start drying, and consequently looking different from the current work area, I start to second guess myself.

Sorta related. The magnifying elnses I’ve been using on this project have built-in lights. Good isea in theory.
