That’s all I got for today. I’ll leave you with a song and move along with my day.
Online schooling is a joke. Defund the teachers’ unions immediately.
without unions children would not be in school and would be back working in mines and factories. is that what you want?
Stop, I can only get so erect.
Yes!
Distance learning is like any other form of learning – it works only if the student, teacher, and parents are all engaged in the process. The PS teachers I know complain about students who are signed in but have camera and mic off, and do not reply to questions. Also, background noises indicative that the student’s attention is elsewhere, or that he is being distracted by other household members (like, domestic drama).
But, yes, unions for public schoolteachers is teh ebil, particularly the not-quite-unions that exist in states like Virginia where it is illegal for public schoolteachers to unionize.
North VA is hilarious the majority of parents are furious about this but there remains a strong contingent who love this and don’t want it to go away. The teachers want to go back but the admins are scared that someone more than likely the descendant of one of the swamp lawyers in this den of vipers will come down with the ro and sue the system into oblivion. That’s my theory anyway.
“the swamp lawyers in this den of vipers”
You talk purty.
Hopefully swamp lawyers are no relation to prominent forest lawyer.
Now there is a viper you need to be scared of.
I’m sure that all of the Covid theater is being prompted by an earnest desire to avoid blame.
could have all been prevented in april with a blanket liability shield. Wonder why that didn’t happen?
And when both parents are working at home, we simply can’t watch over the kids constantly to ensure that they’re actually paying attention. My son frequently flips over to YouTube during the day. My daughter will pull up the library website to find some pleasure reading she does rather than her classes. Both of them were good students before this year, both of them have gotten some Ds and Fs this year for the first time.
We have our kids (1st grade and 5th grade) enrolled at the neighborhood YMCA. The same great people who run the Summer camp program are now running learning centers where the kids come in, do their iPad learning, and run around the Y on breaks. They are running a top-notch program.
Our kids’ school lets students switch between in-person, hybrid and all virtual school each trimester. Our kids were in full, in-person and this coming trimester their classes are increasing by 50%. It turns out that there was a bit of a sorting process among the teachers. Co-morbidities aside, the most enthusiastic teachers all signed up for in person and hybrid while the teachers who tended to slack off went for the all virtual classes.
Interestingly, among parents, there was a big mix, but the slight trend was to the opposite. While many parents HAD to get their kids into school so they could work, the parents with the means, time and temperament to babysit their kids tended to go all virtual. These helicopter parents are currently losing their shit to find out how bad the Virtual classes are- in many cases because of their teachers.
“These helicopter parents are currently losing their shit to find out how bad the Virtual classes are- in many cases because of their teachers.”
Good.
Not good that schoolchildren are receiving crappy education at taxpayer expense, but that more parents are discovering the problems with government-run schools. Particularly when it’s the parents with the means and motivation to do something about it, one way or another.
Oh they’ll only see one way to fix it – MOAR MONEY FOR SCHOOLZ. This is NoVa you are talking about.
“We’re all in this together” ca. 1940 meant the royal family stayed in London during the worst of the blitz, suffering along with the rest of the people
“We’re all in this together” ca. 2020 means government employees get raises and accommodations while employees of private businesses lose their jobs
I remember reading that, when someone (don’t know who) urged that young Elizabeth and Margaret be sent away to Canada during the Blitz, the queen said “The girls won’t leave without me, I won’t leave without the king, and the king will never leave.”
Whatever my feelings about the institution of royalty, gotta hand it to them for the ol’ steadfastness.
It’s fine the feds will provide for the muni’s bankrupting the commercial realestate sectors and small business’s. And they’ll just raise personal property taxes.
“particularly the not-quite-unions that exist in states like Virginia where it is illegal for public schoolteachers to unionize.”
Pretty sure one of the laws the new Assembly passed last year made VA pubsec unions legal.
VA is going to be worse than MD in like 2-3 years.
I don’t care about your children.
So it is mutual then? Nobody here cares about you either. Well, being a mild annoyance to us, if that counts as “caring”.
It is a joke, but I don’t blame the teachers. As far as I can tell, they’re doing the best they can with what they’ve got, which isn’t much. If the kid doesn’t want to do it, he’s not going to do it.
My kid’s got biology and algebra. Some people just aren’t going to be able to get either one of them virtually. I know I wouldn’t.
XY’s teachers email us about his Fs. Unfortunately for one of them, they didn’t do a BCC and emailed EVERYBODY whose children have Fs. It’s a very long list of email addresses.
So, I’ve resigned myself to my kid flunking 9th grade and repeating all of it. 2020-2021 is either going to go down in flames for everybody or it’ll have an asterisk by it.
Nobody is flunking a grade this year.
I agree with you; hence, the asterisk.
I read “VA study…” to mean Veteran’s Administration, not Virginia. I thought, “why the F would the VA be….” then it dawned on me.
Yes, Im a moron.
Unless there is context I always parse BLM to Bureau of Land Management.
#metoo.
This is the result of all-caps USPS abbreviations for states (and territories) having been adopted in place of old-school abbreviations like “Va.”
*remembers back to when the city got its own line on the front of an envelope address*
Heh….growing up, until I was a teen, my street address was RR4. For Rural Route.
Mine too – RR2 Box 110. No house number, just the box (for mailbox) number. My mom still has that kind of address.
We had a Star Route address when I was a kid. It was changed to a street address for 911.
They have red signs with numbers for 911
Same here until the county brought in 911 thirty years ago.
I have the same problem whenever someone talks about the University of Tennessee as UT.
BLM = Bureau of Land Management
VA = Veterans Administration
KU = University of Kansas
UT = Utah
MU = University of Missouri
and other assorted acronyms I can’t think of right now.
“The idea of the left would be ‘oh sure you can have a Second Amendment right, too bad you just can’t find any guns that are being produced and manufactured,’” he said.
Same strategy they’re using against the First Amendment.
Make your own Facebook, bigot!
I see you did create your own Facebook, unfortunately we’ve deemed it to be Super Nazi, so we’re going to have your app removed.
Anti trust collusion laws don’t apply to this stuff?
No reasonable prosecutor would bring such charges.
Then get me an unreasonable one.

Oh no the bigot did make his own facebook! Now we have to get it defunded!
This is why you resist municipal WiFi because once that catches on they will start blocking sites like Parler and MeWe as hate sites.

At least 30% of the country has been subjected to constant leftist indoctrination by schools and the media their entire lives. Nothing will ever be fixed unless leftist domination of education, news, and entertainment is somehow counterbalanced.
This. And 30% is low.

The fact that they think white supremacy is a greater threat should say something about the whole paranoiademic.
The “systemic racism” crap is a conspiracy theory on the same level as something like QAnon with the slight difference that it has the backing of the entire (lefty) political, media, and education establishments.
Exactly, and yet, it’s still a bigger threat.

Morning, Banjos.
“At least 30% of the country needs to be shoved into California and then walled off.”
I keep hearing cheering or booing for Biden and Trump. “I voted for Trump!”. ” I voted for Biden!” Blah blah blah. No, you did not.
I have never voted for anyone in my life, nor has anyone else.
What I and everyone else vote for are the policies that a given candidate advocates and pushes. How one feels about a candidate personally means nothing. We vote for their preferred policies.
Donald Trump’s hair style or mannerisms are meaningless. Lower taxes? That means something. Less regulation? When is the last time a president took an axe to the federal registry? Getting us out of the shittiest deals in the history of the country (Paris Climate Accord, Iran Deal, Pacific Trade thingy, etc.) means a lot. His policies aren’t perfect but they are a hell of a long shot better than any other president’s or potential president’s in my lifetime. I am disappointed that he caved on bump-stocks but for the most part he is 2ndA friendly.
No, not even a protest vote against OMB is a vote against Trump. It is a vote for Biden (DNC’s) preferred policies.
Nationwide lockdown to destroy small businesses
Nationwide mandatory gun buy back program (gun confiscation)
Nationalizing healthcare
More war in places we have no business being and the resultant looting of the treasury by the political class
Dramatically higher taxes
Destruction of the electoral college and senate filibuster (institutions intended to protect you from govt. overreach)
The insanity of getting rid of fossil fuels altogether to bolster the green energy boondoggle
The complete destruction of our ability to create wealth (Green New Deal)
The destruction of the nuclear family and family values – The demoralization of the entire nation much the way they have spent decades demoralizing the black communities
On and on. Every single plank in the Dem’s platform is calculated to make you poor, more dependent and helpless. If you voted Biden you voted for what looks to me like the most tyrannical set of policies in our country’s history. If. you call yourself a libertarian and voted Biden….I dont even know what to say about that.
I guess I am a bit depressed that so many of my countrymen would vote for the Dem platform. They are too stupid to know what they have done? Too young to remember the USSR? Braiins turned to scrambled shit by TDS? All of the above? I am not sure but I am sure that if the D’s get what they want I will have no empathy for the D voters that will whine and chafe under the boot they seem to love so much.
Fuck ’em, I am done with them. Maybe I need to take a break for a while. No more politics today…I will spend the day cooking. Maybe that will calm me down
Ten ring.
Substitute “ignorant” where the person has enough brain cells to rub together to figure it out.
The fact is that most people are emotional voters, not intellectual voters. More information doesn’t necessarily help until and unless it unseats their existing emotions and replaces them with new emotions. If voting using intelligence is equivalent to the “preponderance of the evidence” standard in court, then voting on emotion is “beyond even unreasonable doubt”.
The D voters that whine about the boot will blame Trump and the Rethuglicans for that boot with their last gasp of breath.
If only comrade Stalin knew of this…
When is the last time a president took an axe to the federal registry – certainly not in the last 20 years as far as I am aware
I’ve only seen increases in regulations for the businesses I work in. And massive increases in costs because of the tariff/tax unilaterally levied on our materials and supplies imports.
I got to be a part of some industry leadership calls where everybody was panicked about reducing regulations once they found out that they didn’t have enough old/expired/overridden regulations on the books to get their regulatory agenda implemented. Still, they found a way.
Deep state gonna deep state. Sometimes it takes a while for them to figure out how to get around the rules, but they eventually do it.
None. Ever.
Not even OMB’s stab at reduction was actual reduction, just a slight slowing of growth.
I get that your point is the effect of voting is choosing a set of policies.
However, I can state with much certainty that *most* of the liberals I know have no fucking clue what they’re voting for. They listen to NPR, which tells them that voting Democratic and hating OMB makes them good people, and that’s all that matters to them. They’re uninformed, intellectually lazy, generally unhappy and most important, *want to be taken care of.* The ones that need the most help – emotionally, financially – are the ones that shout the loudest to the world that (((we))) need to take care of the less fortunate.
I was listening to NPR (know the enemy) while working on a customer’s car yesterday. Every story, be it about Indians, er Native Americans or blacks mentions that particular subset of people was “…especially hard hit by Covid.” Regardless of the topic. It’s all programming, all the time.
At times it’s embarrassing to be counted among a human race of which so many are susceptible to such obvious manipulation.
It wouldn’t be so bad but the people on NPR actually believe the bullshit they are spewing and actively brainwashing themselves as well as the audience. It would be more fun if they were actually laughing at their audience with disdain like Bill Maher or Fox News does.
I’ve been with people who are capable of twisting arguments and facts around into some pretty outrageous fabrications that they completely believe, however absurd. It is bewildering to watch it happen in real time. And bewildering in the context of evolution… what benefit could possibly come from having this mental deficiency to waste energy concocting a false reality when it’s just so easy to see and live within the truth?
The Stockholm Syndrome of marriage, or aligning yourself with the victorious side in wartime or any other conflict between tribes, or not getting executed by whichever sociopath becomes your ruler, often require gigantic amounts of denial to fit in.
we’re basically ride and die pack animals, it helps to beable to cognitive dissonance horrific things you otherwise wouldn’t believe in if it serves to better the pack.
Thanks for the nut punch, and I don’t see any of yous twos’ explanations as a “benefit.” I get it, though.
That said, happy hour begins at 15:30 for me and I’ll be celebrating in a crowded local restaurant/bar where I can ride and die with friends while denying the heaping pile of bullshit that is 2020!
Tax day should be the day before Election Day and only net taxpayers should be allowed the vote.
What a different country this would be.
“only net taxpayers should be allowed the vote.”
Suthenboy for President!!!
Even I’d vote, for that. I pay a lot of taxes but receive more back in the form of benefits. I don’t vote now, conflict of interests.
Present your last year’s tax statements and an ID card.
I guess I am a bit depressed that so many of my countrymen would vote for the Dem platform.
Biden got millions of ballots that were not votes. There is no scenario in which Biden legitimately defeats Trump while losing nearly every single bellwether and somehow getting more votes (let alone 10 million…) nationwide than Barry or Her Shrillness.
Why do you think that Trump couldn’t inspire that turnout for Biden? I agree, Biden against any other Republican wouldn’t produce that result, but how do you not see just how contentious Trump is?
“…just how contentious Trump is?”
He is a fucking candy coated Sunday school teacher compared to what I would do.
Conversely, Biden doesn’t have baggage and dislike that Hilary had and has.
Because if that had happened, Biden would have won the bellwether counties. That’s what the bellwether counties are: a demographic microcosm of America. If there really was this trend of every year voters swinging to Biden, then the bellwethers would have gone the other way. They didn’t.
Did God appoint the bellwether counties? Just because they are usually right hardly means they are infallible.
The bellweather counties might partly be an artifact of survivorship bias. With 3,142 counties in the U.S., you could flip a coin ten times for each county and still have an average of three get whichever random assortment of flips you picked, say HHTHTHTHTT.
“From 1980 through 2016, 19 of the nation’s more than 3,000 counties voted for the eventual president in every election. Only one of them, Washington state’s Clallam County, backed President-elect Joe Biden last week.”
Politics is not physics, it’s not ballistics, it’s not math. No one is saying it is.
But no candidate has ever lost the bellwethers, lost FL and OH, lost House seats, lost governors races, lost state House seats, and still won the election.
And only one other person ever ran for President against Donald Trump. You keep thinking he is like every other political figure.
And therefore that the conventional political wisdom should prevail. He blew that all to hell in ’16 by winning. I just don’t find it that astonishing that he would also do so in losing.
“He blew that all to hell in ’16 by winning”
But he didn’t though. In 2016 he won the bellwether counties, he won the FL + OH combo, and this let him squeak out a win.
Like, you would have a point here if Hillary won the bellwethers and lost. But she didn’t.
I am speaking to the general principle of conventional political wisdom, which you are here elevating to the status of dogma.
“conventional political wisdom, which you are here elevating to the status of dogma.”
No. The bellwether counties function precisely because they are microcosm of the country. The theory of Trump fatigue requires Trump fatigue to display in the bellwether counties, that these moderate counties which swing back and forth from year to year would swing to Biden because of mean tweets. But that didn’t happen. Hell, the bellwethers didn’t even split, they were heavy Trump.
I have said repeatedly I would completely accept a Biden win where Trump lost millions of voters from 2016. But he didn’t. He gained millions of votes, which is another thing that has been predictive in every single Presidential election: incumbent Presidents lose when they lost millions of people who voted for them in their first election. Trump didn’t lose voters, he gained millions.
Biden’s margin of victory is entirely based on the corrupt political machines in three blue cities in three states which put millions of “bubble this and sign it to vote” ballots in the ends of a Biden endorsing union.
FROM 1980 to 2016 – big fucking deal. What happened in ’76, why isn’t that included? Possibly because they were wrong then?
I imagine it had very little to do with the Dem Platform since they only campaigned on “Not Trump”. It should give you an idea of how despised Trump was that Biden is the firts person to successfully run on “I’m not that guy”. The GOP thought they could run on “We’re great and TRUMP!” and not even bring up the worst of Biden’s policies. They somehow expected that the Media would push biden against all logic and evidence that they would never do such a thing. The GOP needs to figure out what it is going to do now that they are actively fighting against the media.
The Gop has figured out what they need to do, go back to being controlled position and enjoying those cushy lobbying jobs that await when their base inevitably get’s tired of their broken promises to repeal the new biden gun laws or medicare for all.
It isn’t all that different from the post WWI British election I mentioned previously – based on who is NOT David Lloyd-George.
The GOP could try publishing their opponent’s most unpopular policies for any given state. Talk about CAFE taxes wrecking the auto industry in MI, for example.
you can’t win on policy. If you could the libertarian or green party would sweep every election.
You can certainly lose on policy.
I’m not so sure about that.
Intelligence, like every other human trait follows a normal distribution. That means that for every point on the right side of the peak there is a corresponding point with roughly the same number of people on the left side of the curve. The point at which one is capable of seeing through the description of a policy “I’m going to protect the environment” to the reality of that policy “I am banning fossil fuels, which means your home heating costs, cost per mile driven, and food costs will triple. Various medicines will no longer be available, food born diseases will sharply increase, and we will see a widening of income disparity and a serious reduction in social mobility” is well to the right of center.
TL:DR There will always be more ignorant voters than informed voters.
They both ran bad campaigns.
Remember kids: Step over the vomit, literally and figuratively….that’s all, later.

“ Two Second Amendment advocates said the plan could cripple the gun industry and drive companies and small sellers alike into bankruptcy.”
They misspelled “would.”
yeah but like you have to keep in mind we are talking about the gov being successful at anything. There’s gotta be some nonzero chance it causes a gun sellers renaissance through some unforeseen externality.
Governments have a remarkable success rate at quashing rights and liberties. One party states are especially good at it and the Democrats will soon be running one because they’re perfecting election rigging.
I see new opportunities for Mexican cartels…
Biden’s gun plan could bankrupt firearms industry.
Feature, not bug.
He also wants either compensated confiscation and/or registration with a an excessive tax on every firearm and magazine. I, for one, will not comply*.
*Not that I’d need to, ever since the boating accident.
which protects firearm sellers and manufacturers from lawsuits related to the misuse of weapons or ammunition.
Forgot to add…this is particularly grating. I don’t see how a company can be liable for the misuse of it’s products even with out this law. It’s like saying Ford should be liable for a terrorist that drives an F150 through a crowd.
Or stab someone to death with a Ginsu or chop someone with a machete, etc. It doesn’t make any damn sense.
Not making any sense is the point of demoralization. Yes, this bullshit will bleed over into all other industries or be struck down as selective enforcement.
Crushing any or all industries is a feature, not a bug. Poverty and selective enforcement have always been powerful tools for the tyrant and the left no longer hides that authoritarianism and tyranny is. exactly what they want. They make no bones about wanting to take away your ability to resist them either.
“Damn right I am going to take your guns!” – Creepy Joe, Beta, Duke Nuke’em, and others I am sure.
left no longer hides that authoritarianism and tyranny is. exactly what they want.
+1 Great Reset
Dram shop acts have been crap ever since their inception. The left has been drooling over the idea of extending them to firearms for decades.
I’m sure it’ll eventually happen because it’s just the bad kind of idea that makes it into law.
The tax stamp/registration scheme just provides a means of uncompensated confiscation followed by prison later. I’d say its the hill Americans will choose to die on but with the Covid insanity I’ve become convinced that Americans don’t have a hill they’ll choose to die on.
I’d agree with you on Americans in general, but the gun stores are the one of two places I’ve seen that are packed with almost no one wearing masks. The other place is farm stores, and it’s a good bet that almost every one of those maskless patrons are gun owners too. That and the massive Trump counterprotests that took place in enemy territories gives me hope about this being a hill.
It seems like this country is coming closer and closer to reaching that point.
Gun stores and churches and the remaining bars that are open.
Yep, they seem to dutifully comply with mandates in the vast majority of cases not that I necessarily blame them.

Trump to Pardon General Flynn.
Saw someone say this is an admission of guilt. From who? Flynn doesn’t decide the pardon. I hope this will end his troubles but Democrats are vindictive, insane authoritarians so I am skeptical.
a judge has spent 6 months refusing to Grant the DOJ motion to dismiss the case, and the 2 Court of appeals went along with his farce. It would be fun for a judge to do this to a Biden associate since it is now settled law in DC that judges can appoint their own prosecutors.
“No, we’re better than that.”
-The Republican Loser Establishment
I would much rather see a Snowden pardon as the final fuck you to the establishment, particularly since OMB failed to go after Brennan and Clapper.
I would too but I don’t think Trump views him very favorably. He’s sort of a conventional thinker in that regard. Same with Assange even though he was talking him up at one point.
“Biden’s gun plan could bankrupt firearms industry.”
I’m looking forward to the ‘Unity” which Biden promised us. My guess is that it will be something like STEVE SMITH’s idea of “unity”.
Leftist scumbags loooooooove hollow calls for unity when they win something – “Let’s unify by you doing exactly what we say!”
Unity means you submit while the left has unfettered power.
unity just means the press, deep state, media and establishment polls get to run a train on the people they hate.

Considering it’s the fraudsters (or alternatively the incompetents) investigating themselves it’s most certainly the latter. Without a truly independent body performing the audit the results will be worthless.

Clearly we need more funding for “educators”.

When people say “we must end corporate greed”, I wonder what they think the word “greed” is signifying? Corporations exist purely to make profit. That’s it. We don’t have to end their greed, we have to end corporations, and organize the economy democratically to benefit everyone.
https://twitter.com/existentialcoms/status/1330319015009402880
My question is: with a workplace organized democratically, how do you have control over your own labor when you need to do what the majority decides?
People say “democracy” as if it were a good thing.

Had a lovely pre-Thanksgiving dinner at my niece’s last night, with one sister attending. They’re all lefties, but I kept my mouth shut when they started expressing fear and loathing over the Crovid, because what’s the point.
At one point my niece asked if I was following (on social media) some idiot calling himself The Liberal Hillbilly, and played a little clip of one of his videos. He was in the middle of a rant about how Antifa didn’t actually exist, but was created by Republicans so they can spread hate and fear. I politely declined.
But anyway, the wings and ribs her husband cooked on the grill…. The man is a master of meat.

Birds were never real. “Dinosaurs” are descendant from birds and yet dinosaurs weren’t discovered till the 18th century. Dinosaurs must be real, which they aren’t, for birds to be real, which they aren’t.
The Liberal Redneck, perhaps? All the lefties on my social media gush about him. My impression is that he has found a media niche and is exploiting his audence.
I imagine a certain kind of leftist loves to promote a liberal redneck, such as they are, the way a certain kind of righty likes to promote, say, Candace Owens.
yeah they are picking a caricature that they think will appeal to their perception of what a conservative or liberal that they can educate is. In liberal rednecks case it’s stupid flyover uneducated rubes and in owens case it’s brainwashed dumb black people.
So well spoken!(said in the voice of the soft bigotry of low expectations)
I would not have missed the opportunity to express my opinion on social media. You’re a better person than I am.
the antifa not existing or being a falseflag operation undertaken by racists to undermine BLM is my favorite leftist conspiracy theory. The people who have one of them usually hold both those views at the same time.

Crying over this is definitely not a sign of emotional level of an unstable 13 year old.
Sometime in the last ten years, it became not just acceptable, but encouraged, for alleged adults to get hysterical in public like toddlers. Yet another reason why I destest what American society and culture has become.
#cryingIsStrong
It’s a way for emotionally stunted women to demand a seat at the adults table without earning it.

Not at all surprising, this this is pure horseshit:

“Federal law prevents hunters from hunting migratory game birds with more than three shells in their shotgun. That means our federal law does more to protect ducks than children.”
Then I’m going to go to Post Office to get some Federal Child Stamps. Working together, we all can end child unemployment.
Does this kind of rhetoric even work on anyone but the incredibly stupid. I think even the moderatly stupid can easily recognize the lie that is being sold here. This only serves as a stupid talking point for people on Democratic Underground.
AZ also voted for this dipshit, so once again, i must drop it in the rankings of Freedom. I rate it slightly above Texas.
And Mark Kelly, whose campaign was entirely based on gun control.
Arizona is set to start circling the bowl.
There are lots of incredibly stupid, and self-deluding, people in our society, Leon.
It’s about stating the desired ideological sentiment. That it ignores reason and good sense is a signal that you’re a believer in what is good.
Yes. Cult behavior. The more irrational and illogical, the more devoted and faithful they are.
Asking for a friend … by what measures does AZ outrank TX on your personal ranking of freedom? Is it the freedom to pay state income tax (versus the onerous duty of Texans to skip filling out a state income tax return)? Is it voting in two Democratic U.S. Senators, versus TX’s zero Dem Senators? Is it the AZ congressional delegation having Democrats in the majority, versus TX being almost 2-1 Repubs in Congress?
Is it this: “speeds of over 85 mph on any highway [in AZ], regardless of the posted speed limit, is considered a criminal (rather than civil) offense.”
Compared to TX having highways with a speed limit of 85 MPH, the highest in the U.S.?
OK, fine, you can’t buy hard liquor on a Sunday in TX, or legally smoke weed. And statewide mask mandate. So those blow.
Texas gun rights blow in comparison to AZ.
Texas loves to brag about No Income Tax but are oddly silent when it comes to atrocious property taxes.
Texas has El Paso.
It’s also a long running joke of mine to dig at the perception of TX being a super gun Friendly state when most of the states in the west are far more liberal (in the freedom sense) with their gun rights than TX.
Texas gun rights blow in comparison to AZ.
I’ve never run into any issues
/Tainted by my experience in the Peoples Burgeoning Republic of Virginia
Seriously though, besides the concealed carry process being a bit annoying, what’s the hangup about TX gun laws?
I’m not seeing a big issue, either. You gotta get a license for concealed or open carry of handguns – no restriction on carrying long guns in public. I’ve walked through downtown Austin, Prog Central, open carrying a shotgun. Got some cheers, some hipsters and whatnot making sudden phone calls presumably to report what they did not know was legal carrying, and a bunch of people who didn’t care much and went about their bidness.
Honestly i only know a little, but my understanding is that CC permit is a bit of a pain to get, and the rules around it are more onerous than in AZ.
It’s a “shall issue” state for handguns, and no permit required for long guns. Maybe AZ is a bit better, but compared to CA, not a lot of difference.
Property tax rates are high here, though that is partially compensated for by the prices of houses outside the urban areas being reasonably affordable.
And if AZ is being Californicated, all of those gun laws will be gone in short order.
Property tax rates are high here, though that is partially compensated for by the prices of houses
Can attest to this. I was paying more property tax for less house in NoVa, solely because of the price differential. Oh, and I had to pay income tax, car tax, and a zillion other ticky tack fees.
Property tax is the most evil of taxes, though.
I’m not going to Lie though El Paso is what really pushes Texas over the edge. If they were to just cede it to it’s own state or give it to New Mexico, Texas would beat out AZ.
OK, why?
Seems like income tax is more evil, since that forces you to divulge all sorts of confidential info to the tax assessors, and makes you fill out what can be an insanely complicated form before getting robbed. Plus income taxes are progressive, and have been over 90% marginal rates just at the federal level for some periods prior to JFK.
OK, why?
Escapability.
I wrote an article on the topic a while back
While both are evil, property taxes are taxes on the temerity to not have stopped owning something, so you get taxed on the same thing year in and year out simply for the crime that it exists.
What do you have against El Paso in particular? All six of the biggest cities in TX except for possibly Fort Worth are pretty statist.
El Paso is just Ugly.
I’m mostly bustin balls right now.
El Paso should just be carved out and given back to Mexico. Or make it a separate metropolitan-entity like DC. Looking at the map doesn’t help to understand this. And they would have to re-direct I-10 around the entire area. But if you spent any time there it would become apparent that El Paso just is neither Texas nor New Mexico. It doesn’t fit anywhere.
The fact that you even need a permit. Here in AZ, constitutional carry, concealed or open. No licensing.
Anecdote: for SP’s last birthday, I went to a gunshop to buy her a 9mm pistol. I was in and out in 15 minutes, with pistol and ammo. Just like buying groceries.
BTW, she loved it and it’s now her regular carry.
Yes, AZ gun laws are better … for now. Lot of progs fleeing Blue places like CA or WA, and bringing the same bad ideas with them that ruined those states. The GOP lead in the state House is now razor thin, 31-29, after losing seats this time around. I’m guessing 2022 might be when one or both chambers flip Blue.
I was in and out in 15 minutes, with pistol and ammo.
Took me 20 minutes in TX because the folks at the gun counter didn’t want to stop ogling it. Supposedly it’s even faster if you have a TX CC license because it shortcuts the background check.
AZ sounds somewhat better, but I’m not buying the “TX is a squish on gun rights” line. There are pros and cons to constitutional carry if you ever plan on leaving the state.
30.06 and automatic violation of the law for carrying on private property.
Property owners are free to set any terms they wish but their remedy is to ask you to leave not an automatic crime.
Yeah, but property owners are required to prominently post a notice of what the terms of entry are. I mean, not as good as constitutional carry, but you’re not gonna get blindsided by this.
So if I only put three shells in my shotgun I can hunt children?
If anyone ever says to me again “the slippery slope is a logical fallacy” I may very well slap them.
This makes me want to finish my article about logical fallacies. Because often the people who point them out don’t understand them at all, like it’s the End All Be All of debate. The “Slippery Slope” is only fallacious if you don’t establish a causal chain from one to the other. Saying “Hey inching someone closer to their goal, means they will start moving on to next steps in their goal” is not fallacious.
It’s a logical fallacy in the same way that General Relativity premits time travel.
Or those unemployed kids could sue for unemployment benefits
The thing that irks me a bit is that because of the $600 a week bump, many of those “unemployed” kids were making more money doing nothing than many adults that retained their jobs were. I find that distastful.
What 600$ bump? that shit went away 4 months ago, I was lucky to get my 307$ a week, but those kids are learning a valuable lesson,
FYTW kids!
I can’t see any way that is out of context. Now turn in your firearms,
subjectcitizen. You arent fooling me. You stole that from a logic book explaining fallacies, that one is the example used for false equivalence.
This school year has really frustrated me and I know I have no redress, no voice in the matter.
Our middle son, who came to live with us 2 years ago after we wrestled him away from my crazy ex (his mom) was never given proper attention at home when it came to schooling.
We worked hard for two years in which he raised his average 2.0 gpa to a 3.6 gpa. Then this happened.
Obviously its not all the schools fault because we believe in personal responsibility, however he is isn’t dumb and can see the absolutely minimal effort put in by most of his teachers so he responds in kind.
Here to pick up my son from school at the 9am appointment slot per COVID rules.
He’s doing laundry…

It would be terrible if the lean spending Obama years came back.
We still have paper in the printing presses.
It is impossible to parody these people. A trillion dollar a year deficit is just not enough!
Just mint that trillion dollar coin I’ve heard so much about
We will not have achieved true success until that coin is worth no more than what a penny is worth today. We should all be so lucky as to have trillions of trillion dollar coins, and not be able to buy a single loaf of bread with them by the time we can cart them to the store.
Fuck it, just go ahead and double everyone’s benefits. We’re going into the ditch anyway so why not?

Shouldn’t we be celebrating the K-12 madrassa complex cutting its own throat?
So government schools failed in two venues… and that’s a mark against home schooling?
Depends…are they failing social studies or are they failing math?
Of course, what is missed in that meme is that schools, while being indoctrination factories, still imparted some middling level of value. That value is now gone.
Also, I’m gonna go ahead and say it. The problem isn’t virtual learning. The problem is dropping woefully unprepared students, parents, and teachers into virtual learning, cold turkey. There are skills required to learn well in a virtual setting, and those skills are not taught at public school. I remember learning that lesson the hard way when the homeschool kids worked circles around me in engineering school the first couple semesters.
“That value is now gone”
So doesn’t it follow that some percentage of fed up parents, a greater percentage than otherwise would have in the absence of the Kung Flu, will reject government schools entirely going forward? Isn’t that a good thing?
Never interfere with an enemy while he’s destroying himself.
Far and away the biggest issue amongst wifey’s peers is the technological ignorance (meant in no way as a pejorative) of many teachers. Using the various interfaces has been a steep learning curve for many teachers and parents.
Judging by the experiences of others, the students too. Many of the platforms adopted by the school systems are archaic and not scalable. Your average school-age child today can work a tablet or smartphone like a pro, but not so much a website originally from the late 90s that’s been bodged and hacked to make it work on today’s browsers, running on servers that were never designed to handle the load.
Its as if the districts IT guy had the final say using what he used back in day when colleges tried to implement in the 90s
It’s the same system that has kept TI’s calculator business afloat. Granted, their calculators are pretty reliable, but they only recently decided that for $100+ maybe you should get an integrated circuit from the early 2000s instead of the 1980s.
“never designed to handle the load”
That’s what she said.
Yep. It isn’t the virtual environment. These kids live in the virtual environment. It was the haphazard, unprepared, often grift induced slapped together platforms, that is making it a disaster.
For instance, we use what is callled Campus Portal in normal times to communicate, display grades, assignments, etc. In this virtual setting, the kids use Canvas to do assignments, but not all assignments. Some are also on Google Docs…and that program doesnt talk nice to the portal so we have no idea and the teachers have no idea of what actual grades are.
Its a cluster
Loser.

Since intellectual property is a very bad fiction, it deserves to be mocked.
So… From 1991 – 2008 The DNC seemed to be dominated by the Clinton Machine. Even after they lost to Obama and he was getting his inroads into controlling the DNC, she still had enough influence to walk to get some help in the Nomination process. After 2016, that all seemed to fall apart, and the Acendency of the Obamas was clear. Esepcailly in 2020 when Obama stepped in and secured Biden’s nomination for him.
So in 2024 will we be talking about the Biden Machine? He doesn’t seem to be as organizationally minded, nor able to command such loyalty like the Clintons and the Obamas.
There aren’t any “Biden” people it’s all Obama’s people. Kamala is also in the Obama camp. Clinton’s people are still around but are getting more and more fringe as herself has no more relevance to national politics.
Even if Biden makes it to 2024 he’s not a viable candidate for that election. They are going to in all likelyhood ride with Kamala but I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up going with someone else given how singularly unlikable and uncharismatic she is.
Also Look how fucking active Obama is right now he’s basically going around telling everyone he’s the one running things.
In 2020 it will be the CCP picking our two candidates.

Demanding Silicon Valley Suppress “Hyper-Partisan Sites” in Favor of “Mainstream News” (The NYT) is a Fraud
The corporate news organizations masquerading as reliable and non-partisan are, in fact, as hyper-partisan as any sites on the internet, and spread as much misinformation.

I must admit, I did not imagine the legacy media would still be alive at this point, never mind that they’d be able to bend the ear of people who should have been gratefully piling the last layer of soil on their (metaphorical) graves.
After the ’16 election, the fake news narrative was crafted for this very purpose.
Well, something else has to explain how they even made it that far, but I think you’re right. They have done a bang-up job of appointing themselves the gatekeepers of what is “true” and not. It’s the most magnificently successful skinsuit job since Edith Wilson turned her husband into a handpuppet.
The Trump admin prolonged the lifespan of the legacy media a bit. The COVpanic also helped keep them going. I imagine the next four years won’t be as kind to them.

“YouTube suspends and demonetizes Trump’s favored network One America News for a week after it falsely claimed COVID-19 has a cure
Several Twitter users posted links to a video believed to be the one cited by YouTube, in which a California doctor said he’d ‘cured’ 1,700 patients with hydroxychloroquine in early October.
That segment appeared to have been removed from OANN’s website, but its unclear when.
This is the first time that YouTube has clamped down on OANN, a small, far-right and fiercely partisan outlet with more than one million subscribers that has refused to recognize Joe Biden’s victory in the November 3 presidential election and has spread lies about voter fraud.”

Kids are dumb
A co-worker and I had this discussion about Programming yesterday and how when you are a young programmer you are always tyring to implement the latest Design Pattern you read about and do the coolest new trick. When you become more experienced, you’ve gotten that out of your system and learned when and why you might want to do that but also when you want to break the rules.
You can teach someone the rules, but you can’t teach experience.
I’m not sure it’s “experience,” though maybe that’s a prerequisite. I think it might just be the natural pessimism that comes with a moderate amount of critical thinking. In stats, mixed models _seem_ like a damned miracle machine. They’re not. Ditto for regularization and cross validation. Same for Bayesian analysis. Sometimes they work like a treat, but sometimes stats analysis methods circa 1955 (but with 2020 computing firepower) work better.
But if I had a dime for “but muh mixed model!”
Curse you, incomplete opacity!
Most people’s conception of measurements and the machines and processes that derive them stop at “it’s magic” and progresses no further from there. You don’t understand a measurement until you understand the processes (and their limitations) that go into deriving them.
And yes, we mix and match nm, microns, and angstroms as desired. Because the metric system TOTALLY did away with the zoo of measurement units.
Putting them back on the plantations.
I have two days off for Thanksgiving and they give us our birthday off, so I took 2 vacation days and made it a week. I can definitely get used to this. I just have to figure out how to do this all the time.
Retire. It’s like two 6 month vacations.
I think I’d be great at being retired. Unfortunately there’s 3 other people in my house who wouldn’t go for living well below our means.

Email from Lyft: Expanding on our Health Safety Program
Mask up so we can all move forward
New: Mask recognition. If we receive feedback that a rider or driver is not wearing a face covering, they’ll need to take a selfie with their face covering before they can use Lyft again.
New: Account suspensions. Riders and drivers who repeatedly violate their Health Safety Commitment will be suspended.
After I gave 3 stars to a Lyft driver because she asked me to put on a mask* in October I’m no longer asked to rate their drivers. But I haven’t been prompted to take a selfie with a mask either.
* Of course, I didn’t mention masks as a reason for the low rating.
I got that email and immediately unsubscribed. All these silicon valley companies can fuck right off.
I don’t think I’d want to have the job of reviewing the mask selfies.

“violent looters and protesters”
Columnist Michael Gerson called them “intemperate protestors” who hurt the Democrats’ election prospects, while the 10 million more folks who voted for Trump are in thrall to “extremist groups” such as Qanon and Proud Boys.
Good morning, Banjos!
Distance learning is a fucking joke. My neighbor was over last night and he told us he’s moving his 5th grade daughter to a private (parochial) school. All in person.
My kids are waiting to see what happens with their college next semester. My son will likely take the semester off if they don’t increase the in person opportunities. How the fuck can you do labs over zoom?
I gotta say, Thanksgiving is far and away my favorite holiday, the kids got home last night and I should be happier than I am. But I’m mostly pissed off. We have been SMITHED hard by both the state and our Stasi-fuck neighbors. Impotent rage is the worst rage.

I just saw a twitter link saying “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex yadda yadda”. I thought the queen had striped them of their titles when they quit the Royal Family.
Anyway Sorry Canada that you have to deal with both American and Sassenach Royalty.
Titles remained intact, they cannot go by “your royal….” and do not represent the queen in any capacity. Or so says the untertoobs
Apparently the Queen denied Harry the ability to lay a wreath in his official capacity for some remembrance day or another. I don’t think either of them are in good standing.
I think we all have a lot more to be thankful for and there are silver linings all over the place:
Silver Linings:
Comedy gold of getting to watch Biden embarrassingly succumb to dementia in public
K-12, College and Hollywood committing suicide before our eyes
Money piling up in my bank account from not having anywhere to spend it
Thankful Stuff:
Sunrises

Humanity’s natural state is one of slavery. Yeah it stinks that it looks like the final act might be starting on this experiment in liberty, but I’ve only got one life and I’m not going to waste it fretting about how stupid most of my countrymen are. Forgive them for they know not what they do. I’m also not going to fret about the idiots that are “in charge”, they’re already trying to lower our quality of life, I’m certainly not going to let them live rent-free in my head and ruin even more. My own reaction to the situation is the one thing I can control about it, so I choose not to make myself miserable.
^^^ Plenty to be grateful for, and the grateful heart is a happy heart.
I have a great family, great kids, warm house, food, and plenty of orphans to run the mines.
Methinks the “Dementia Joe” meme has been overblown a bit. I saw his interview with Lester Holt and didn’t really think Joe was any less sharp than most guys his age (or even Trump). Joe spouted bullshit, of course, but seemed coherent. President Harris will just have to wait?
He has good days and bad days. Just like my uncle.
Once he fully adapts to the Aricept injections, he’ll get his ass 25th Amendmented, then it’s all Horizontal, all the time!
Day by Day, live Right Now, and enjoy Thanksgiving, Hell we are all still alive……
So in wild and unrealistic speculation, let’s say Biden’s DOJ (SDNY) decides to indict Trump for some charge or other, and Biden declines to intervene/ pardon. Trump Flees the country.
Would a) any European countries be willing to grant him political asylum? Or would he have to flee to Argentina, like the rest of his Nazi Pals? Five Bois from Brazil?
There’d be countries willing to take him for propaganda purposes if nothing else. See also Russia and Snowden.
Russia would be kinda funny. Could you imagine the “MUH RUSSHIAGATE!!”
I was thinking he could move in with Snowden and they could do sort of a reality show Odd Couple broadcast. You know, Snowden gets angry at Donnie’s piss hookers making so much noise while he’s up late trying to write code or something like that, Donald realizes he’s been a selfish prick, and they have a nice heartfelt talk but he’s up to his same old shenanigans next week. It’d be quite the hit.
Like this but less funny?
I love that show. I’ve watched them all on Netflix, still waiting for the final season though.
IMO, it would be an incredibly stupid move for Biden’s DoJ to go after Trump. That would only turn him into a martyr, galvanize his supporters and red pill more suburban squishes about Swamp corruption.
Much better for them to ignore him and let the SV fascists do their deplatforming thing.
It would be stupid. But we’ve seen time and time again that when a certain party gets power, they truly believe they’ll hold on to it forever.
^^^ Yup. Each Party was ascendant, and they get lazy. There was no way Hillary could lose. And then she did. I saw very similar pronouncements about Trump.
Agreed, a Trump prosecution, while red meat to a fraction of the base (the baser base), would be poisonous to the country at large. On the other hand, it would be a great distraction from getting other things done.
Besides, what would be the exact charge(s) to be brought against Trump?
According to Hyperbole, abuse of office.
I think Obstruction of Justice of the Mueller Report. They set that up about a year ago and i think they have been sitting on it till he is out of office.
The same thing he was impeached for: stuff.
Badness. Orangeness.
this whole what charges could be lodged against trump is a hilarious naive sentiment given the machinations of the state and it’s endless pages of regulation and bullshit laws on the books. We live in a litigious culture where you are committing some kind a felony by breathing.
As everyone has more or less agreed – the charge will be butt hurt in the first degree.

I’ve seen several stories on local TV News that showcased “normal” people all talking about how sad they were that they can’t meet with their family this Thanksgiving, but are really proud to obey Walz’s edicts and be neighborly.
I have not seen any coverage of normal families saying “Fuck that noise, I’m eating dinner with my entire family. Except Aunt Stella who is 103 and in bad health. She’s skipping this year”
A story by our brave heroes in the hospitals calling you a killer if you eat dinner with your family is a pretty good example of our local news.
Quick Poll:
Who is destroying their reputation with the public more?
A: Teachers
B: Healthcare workers
*Public Health Officials are the undisputed winners of the race to lose all credibility. I’m just interested in these two occupations.
None of the above. They’re still worshipped.
Sadly, this is the correct answer.
B.
Almost every person has 12-16 years of experience with Teachers, and so already have a low reputation because of that. Healthcare Workers were in a much more “saintly” spot and quickly soiling that reputation.
A.
This kind of bullshit deserves to be, and should be, ignored.
Because the normal people that are saying “Fuck that noise” don’t go running to the media looking for attention.
No creepy at all…
“If more and more people are following the rules, I think that more and more people will follow the rules,” Akinsete said.
My friends jumped off the bridge too…everyone else is going it! Fucking children.
No we don’t. Even if everyone hid in their basements for a month and 0 cases were recorded, the second we stopped hunkering the cases would begin again.
Only continued sacrifices will appease the

Undoubtably bad for freedom within the states, but we also have seen states asserting border and territorial sovereignty that has not been seen for a 100 years. Does this push the US towards more autonomous (though with more distirbution along the liberty axis) states?
Stems from the belief in the fundamentally unlimited power of the state, to make us better. That appeals to a lot of people of otherwise disparate political inclinations.
Has anyone else seen that creepy Volvo Ad of people reading about Seatbelts. It has serious overtones of “WEAR YOUR MASK”.
“Fun fact: states decide how to apportion their electors. They could give them all to, say, whichever candidate won majority of counties!

Where is my faithless elector naked celebrity video?
Chris Hayes advocates for Trump?
(yes i did see the timestamp)
This is technically true, but I’d be amazed if the Supreme Court didn’t intervene (or uphold a lower court intervening), especially if the rules change happened late in the game. They already struck down state legislatures apportioned by county, I doubt they’d be too keen on state electoral votes being allocated according to county.
“SIDNEY POWELL’S “KRAKEN” IS DOD CYBER WARFARE PROGRAM! WE ARE AT WAR!
Holy Radar – that’s the Kracken!!! Who knew it is a Department of Defense Cyber Warfare Program? It Tracks Systems and aquires evidence of nefarious activities and crimes committed by The Deep State!
When Sidney Powell stated she HAS RELEASED THE KRAKEN, most of us thought of Clash of the Titans and cheered her on for her gutsy remark. She never blinked and held a stern, a serious face when she said it. She wasn’t joking and now we know why! The “Kraken” is a Department of Defense-run cyber warfare program that tracks and hacks various other systems to acquire evidence of nefarious actions by the deep state!President Trump and the loyal patriots in the Military and Space Command now have all the evidence of voter fraud and election related treason. This will be used against the enemies of America!”

Trump retweeted this.
wut
You know, I too am something of a fiction writer.
This is why they let Wood and Powell do there own thing. Trump can still win with recounts – if and only if – they force them to allow real observation, match absentee ballots to envelops and signatures, and toss out precincts where the ballot and vote counts are mismatched (somebody just ran batched of Biden votes repeatedly).
Maybe something will come of her line of argument. I sure hope that we never use those kinds of voting machines in this country ever again.
That won’t win him PA. Biden’s big gains in PA were in the Philly suburbs and across all the rest of the non-urban counties.
Mk…I can’t help but be skeptical.
Related.
On Tuesday Attorney Sidney Powell told Lou Dobbs “We’ve got one witness that says in Arizona at least there were 35,000 votes added to every Democratic candidate just to start their voting off.”
Needz moar exclamation points for full credibility.
trshmnstr said about taxation “Escapability.”
By that standard (and I missed your article on this), are you saying the actions you can take to avoid it directly? Since in the case of renting, you still pay indirectly. And I would think in many other cases you would still pay indirectly.
But I find that an odd standard, since in any location with any govt at all, there will be some mechanism for funding it.
It does its patriotic duty. It puts the mask on its face.
Biden said, “I hope that we’re going to be able to have a united voice on the need to mask, socially distance, testing and tracing. They’re critical, critical pieces to dealing with bringing down this virus in a more manageable place. The words of a president matter. And I think it’s critically important, I think it’s a patriotic responsibility to wear a mask, to socially distance.”
Fuck off fraud.
Unified Voice means “There shall be no dissent”. Funny how their version of “science” means, no one can disagree with this.
#TheNewResistanceBeginsNow
Own it, you dick.
contact tracing was a farcical joke in April and it just continues to get more funny everyday as a concept. What an absolute pit of money that will be lit on fire.
I don’t unify with corrupt, senile halfwits.
The words of a president matter
It must be such a relief for them to no longer have to obey all of Trump’s pronouncements when he was President. Because it is so important to listen and obey the words of the President. RIght?
Bonus cheesecake because everyone needs a little more in their lives.

Q putting in the Pope’s work for us
I feel like i missed something…
#8 is marginally suggestive.
Hey!
Oh, you mean the pretender Pope who is squatting in Rome? Carry on.
In an abundance of caution related to the current state of COVID-19, effective Monday, November 30th and until further notice, all CSB [Cambridge Savings Bank] branch lobbies will be open for in-branch appointments only.
Time to panic in MA again.
Ok, but which one?
I didn’t realize one of the Biden campaign slogans was “Truth – Hope – Decency”. That is just precious.
I won’t click on a link to read the lies of that shitbird.
Does expressing gratitude for what you have really take the sting out of the problems you’re dealing with?
That’s not a rhetorical question. I would like to know, from the Glibertariat, if expressing gratitude actually works for you.
Yeah, it regains perspective.
Agreed. You lose perspective when you focus on the bad things. Gratitude helps you get an attitude adjustment to remember there are good things too.
Yes it does.
Yes I think it does. It helps refocus your mind to the positives in your life. At least for me 😉
Yes, reminding myself of what I have definitely helps me feel better. Also, when I feel like a failure, I remind myself of what I have achieved. It gives perspective like Leon says.
Yep. I’m grateful for the spousal unit and the snuggle-pup, without whom I probably would’ve started punching random strangers by now. They also help me to remember that it’s not the fault of those self-same strangers that we’re being forced to choose between shit sandwiches, turd tacos or feces frittatas by our Moral and Intellectual Superiors.
As long as you aren’t deluding yourself and whistling past the graveyard, sure.
Then I am looking at it all the wrong way, and I don’t know how to change that.
@Tulip, I have accomplished a lot, but in my writing milieu, it’s nothing special. Everybody can write a book. In my family, it’s a shrug. It’s just what I do, what I’ve always done as long as anybody can remember.
@stinky, I so don’t whistle past a graveyard. That’s the problem.
I was listening to an interesting podcast recently about change. Change involves hope. People are afraid of hope because hope has risks and people are risk averse. Enter faith (not necessarily religious), as a way to bolster hope.
It’s like losing weight or getting stronger. Hard fucking work.
Thank you. That helped.
Yes, but I think everything is relative. If all a person’s known is a life of luxury that’s been handed to him, he might struggle to find things to be thankful for. Whereas one born with little and who’s struggled to achieve a life he’s dreamed of might be perpetual embodied gratitude.
Me, I’m thankful humans no longer live in caves in that much more brutal “might makes right” environment. We’ve come a long way.
I dislike the organized version some people do at Thanksgiving, where everybody goes around the table and has to say something. But yes, reminding yourself of what is good and how lucky you are in many ways can help put your current problems into perspective, and make them easier to deal with.
OMG. Diego Maradona dies.
It’s kind of amazing he made it this long considering he did so much coke he could put the Medellin cartel out of business.
Just saw that. He had brain surgery a couple of weeks back and appeared to be doing OK. I guess brain surgery always has risk that extends out a few weeks.
why the shock?
Another coronavirus death.
Escape from NYC.
“Sheriff teams will be out in-force as the holidays approach. There will be vehicle checkpoints at key bridges and crossings throughout New York City,” Fucito announced during a Tuesday press conference alongside Mayor Bill de Blasio (D).
“Sheriff will also be conducting checkpoints at curbside drop off bus stops – so, out-of-state buses coming into New York City, when they drop off at the curb, they will be met by sheriff teams,” he said, explaining that they will also be “serving Department of Health general orders for travelers arriving in New York, advising him of the quarantine and what they have to do in order to comply with the quarantine.”
Wo sind deine Papiere und deine Maske?
Oh sure go for the Stasi angle, when the NKVD always gets a pass.
Fiiiiiine!
Где твои бумаги и маска, товарищ?
Because the NKVD never bothered checking papers?
Hmm, an angle i failed to take into account.
The hell? I posted it in Russian too and the post vanished?
Где твои бумаги и маска, товарищ?
Apparently the site is askeered of the Rooksies, because I’ve tried posting it in Russian twice and it has not appeared either time.
Ваши документы, пожалуйста. Нарушаете закон находясь на улице без маски и перчаток.
Some of us can post in Russian just fine.
Conservatives need to rethink their #BacktheBlue it looks like.
But if we don’t back the blue who will tango with BLM to foment racial unrest?
I’m not so sure the conservatives have a problem with this. But it’s worth remembering not everyone on the political right is a conservative.
Come to think of it, when it comes to the Romney type establishmentarians you’re probably correct. There’s a large proportion that hates it as much as we do from what I’ve seen though.
Where my interstate commerce gone?
Maybe they should build some kind of wall to keep the undesirables out and more importantly the remaining tax base in.
Diego Maradona died and it wasn’t a coke overdose. Holy shit.
If that could’ve killed him he would’ve been dead years ago.
We have seen, via Nikki Sixx, that heroin not only cannot kill you; it’s also a preservative.
Nikki Sixx? Keith Richards had been a heroin addict for like 30 years before Nikki Sixx was even born!
I have you SEEN Nikki Sixx? He’s 60something and he’s still hot. Can’t say that about Keith Richards.
I am not in a position to judge male hotness. My wife thinks the hottest man on earth is Sam Elliott, who looks like a beef jerky in human form to me.
I didn’t figure. I think Tommy Lee Jones is hot too, and he also looks rode hard and put away wet.
Then again, I’m not really one to eyeball dudes younger than I am. It’s hard moving to the December end of the May-December spectrum.
De gustibus and all that…
De gustibus, we missed da bus, when’s de next bus?
Apparently when they ran Ozzie’s genome they found out that there are genes which give you higher drug tolerance. I can only imagine that, by a process of unnatural selection, the rockers that live a long time are those who have such adaptations.
(after posting this, I learned that Diego Maradona played futbol, but the general point still stands)
Maybe there’s a link between those likely to go into some kind of show business (including sports) and drug tolerances. And don’t let’s forget the cats on Wall Street.
It was apparently a heart attack, which makes sense given that his heart was almost certainly weakened by many years of coke use.
I guess he’s in hell with his buddy Castro now

Republican Gov. Phil Scott says Vermont schools will question kids about Thanksgiving plans
hahahahahah holy shit.
A year ago, I never, ever would have believed the public would accept this kind of bullshit. We’re absolutely doomed.
Nineteen Eighty-Four really was an instruction manual. The TP ration has increased from 1 roll a day to 2 rolls a week, Big Brother loves you and wants you to be safe, we’ve always been at war with East Afghanistasia, and Emmanuel Goldtrump continues to commit subterfuge and sabotage wherever it occurs.
Now that’s how you Stasi. Fucking intrusive bullshit and way the fuck out of line, even for the current timeline.
Incremental acceptance.
Flatten the curve
Just until school lets out
Just through the 4th
Just until the vaccine is ready
Just until . . . . . .
bUT iT’S teH DeMOnCRAt GoVS tHAt oNly hAte lIBErTy!
Screw that guy.
He’s the guy that betrayed the people that voted for him and instituted gun control in Vermont. There’s no love lost between him and the right.
Correction: He is one of the “respectable Republicans” who didn’t like the orange man.

JHTFC it’s always Reagan and now Trump’s fault. Could they not have worked a reference to Bush in there too?
I’d like to say that while the Wikipedia article is a total dumpster fire of leftist and commie agitprop, the book itself seems interesting. Please do not take my criticism of the Wikipedia bullshit as a sign that the contribution to the discussion was not appreciated.
Man, if only Germans and Italians had voted harder I’m sure Hitler and Mussolini would have been stymied from power.
“I defeated fascism by voting”
– Said the guy who clearly has no idea what “fascism” means
The only people opposed to lock downs are the populist Right and grass root libertarians. How the hell did we end up in the minority on the question “should the government be able to use men with guns to outlaw commerce and confine you to your home over a virus with a 99% survival rate?”
Seriously, fuck this country. The Bill of Rights was the only thing that made it good and now that just basically disappeared.
Something, something, boiled frogs, something, Fabianism
How the hell did we end up in the minority on the question “should the government be able to use men with guns to outlaw commerce and confine you to your home
over a virus with a 99% survival rate?”That’s part of the problem right there. It concedes the premise and then you’re just haggling over the price.
We need public schools so we can monitor parents.
