She’s Almost Four

Dog park dog

She was my granddaughter’s wish, and we had been looking for a new pup after our Dubz passed away a few years before, so why not? Cute little thing…

Tiny puppy

Fat and Happy

She pretty much grew up on this website, you all know her, Wacky Poodle that she is, and I write this to say, what a great Friend! She traveled, slept in motels alone, chased rabbits in at least 5 states, got skunked, and loves water!

Always on patrol

long puppy

Water dog! Finally!

Always ready to go, doesn’t care where, as long as she is with Dadoo. We have sailed the desert, climbed a few mountains. She hasn’t seen the ocean, but big lakes and rivers, no worries for Bella, she swims! A very strong, and strong willed animal, the smartest dog I have ever had.

She pulls very hard, and breaks leashes on a regular basis, I keep her short leashed because people are stupid, but it doesn’t help. Bella is a love machine, and as such she’ll knock you down in her quest for face licks, it’s all she wants, and Will Not Stop!

Until she does

Bella started out in SoCal, lived a year in AZ, and now gets to live the dream, in Michigan, in Winter, but she loves it. She has a jacket and boots when needed (not yet), she’s just happy to be out in the world, like Dad.

My latest plan is to make a place for her and I to be at peace, and live out our lives here. Bella agrees, I think she remembers Wendy, but naaah, dogs don’t remember.

Do they?

Pitbull/ Belgian Malinoix

18” at the shoulder

50 Lb.

No fat

Short hair in the rear

Double water coat on the shoulders and chest

Her neck is thicker than her head, hard to make a collar work,

If I had 6 of her, I could rule the World! But one is fine, gotta love the Ubu!

My little Dog, my friend, my child, Bella, Child of death, Teufelhund.

Brin Lee and Bella, both 3

I love that coat, and the purple is cute on the little pumpkin.

Thank you! that is an issue, she;s a strong doggie!

      • Tulip

        Or get a harness

      • Yusef drives a Kia

Bella broke a Kong Harness, I’ll take a small tough harness for now,

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        I mean , Collar

      • TARDis

and a back brace, for yourself.

We used to say, “I’m taking the dog for a walk going out for a drag.”

Damn, that dog could hunker down.

      • kinnath

        Nope

        Martingale.

Harness says “I can’t control my dog”.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        Collar FTW!

      • kinnath

A dog can pull much harder with a harness than with a collar.

        With a collar, they’ll choke themselves. It’s a self-limiting system.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

No shit? why does my Dog have a collar? She’s a maniac and must be controlled

      • kinnath

        We have started puppy obedience.

There is a 110 lb woman with a 6-month old bulldog.

The first three weeks, the bulldog was in harness. Pretty much pulled the woman over a few times.

The instructor said to get a collar.

Last week, the bulldog was much more in control.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        Yep

      • Don escaped Two Corinthians

oh, I guess I had 15 minutes to notice this apt comment.

      • kinnath

        It’s all good.

      • Don escaped Two Corinthians

        I caution against harnesses.

A dog should be managed with a collar. A harness merely gives the dog something to pull against and requires a good deal more effort to establish control. To put a dog in its place with a collar is an early step to establishing the correct relationship that a harness can only delay.

      • Tulip

Meh, I know plenty of people with dogs, who use harnesses, and their dogs are well controlled. All have dogs with big necks and that’s why they chose harnesses. The dogs are well behaved, and were taught not to pull.

      • kinnath

        Your experience differs from mine.

I’ve never seen a dog in a harness that wasn’t straining at the leash.

      • Tulip

        Apparently so.

      • Bobarian LMD

My avatar had a harness, mostly because a XXL collar wasn’t long enough. In a pinch, I used my belt when he outgrew the first one, which did not work very well. Had to special order a 31″.

I found that for walking, a harness was better because it allowed me to pull hard enough if and when I needed to. He would only pull that hard when I walked him though, and was completely voice obedient.

A quick ‘ah’ and he’d heel.

      • Chipwooder

Dachshunds need a harness. Too prone to spinal issues already as it is.

  4. rhywun

Love the armchair pic – so content and loved.

    • Yusef drives a Kia

A smoky picture, I like it, Thanks,

  5. DEG

    Wonderful!

  6. westernsloper

Thanks Yufus. Dogs are good. Except my neighbors. That asshole………..

  7. R C Dean

    Great tribute.

We’ve had pits forever. For pullers like pits, gentle leader collars work really well although it can take some time/work to get the dog to tolerate them. Basically like a bridle; they turn the dogs head when they start to pull.

    • Yusef drives a Kia

Bella snaps them, and it hurts my arm when she does, right now I use Tacticollar and heavy cord, still riips my arms off,

  8. Yusef drives a Kia

Bella is out of control, until I control her, Barks, noises and commands, we communicate and act as a team, that is what’s best for Doggies, IMO

  9. The Bearded Hobbit

Our Shih Tzu couldn’t wear a collar; his neck was larger than his head. Harness was default.

But “take him for a drag” was our standard line.

Smartest dog we’ve ever “owned”. Miss him.

    • pistoffnick

I went to a zoo the other day and it had only one animal—a dog.

      It was a Shih Tzu

      • The Bearded Hobbit

“What kind of dog is that?”
        “Shih Tzu”
        “Gesundheit”

      • Bobarian LMD

They charge much for that zoo?

    Wednesday morning at five o’clock
    As the day begins
    Silently leaving my bedroom door
Leaving some drool that she hoped would say more
She goes down the stairs to the kitchen
    Clutching her chewy toy
Quietly crossing the back doggie door
    Stepping outside, she is free
She … (we gave her most of our lives)
Is Almost (sacrified most of our lives)
Four! (we gave her everything money could buy)

    • Toxteth O'Grady

      ?

    • Chafed

      Well done CA.

  11. westernsloper

What’s everyone buying with their incoming $600 plague bucks?

    • C. Anacreon

Figured I’d use some of it to purchase a nice 11-acre piece of land I’ve had my eye on, then use some to add to my collection of Krugerrands, and what’s left after that I’ll play on the stock market.

      • LJW

$600 gets you that much? Did we just travel back to the 1800s?

      • mrfamous

There are parts of Arizona where you can indeed buy 11 acres for not a terribly large amount of money. Less than a grand an acre sometimes.

      • westernsloper

        LOL!

    • Floridaman

Silver, something more likely to be valuable in the future. You?

      • westernsloper

This. I can cover the extra hun. Every piece of cooking equipment I buy now I choose food truck/trailer usable. I want to quit my job.

      • Floridaman

Nice, good luck. I understand I have platinum hand cuffs.

      • westernsloper

I am kind of hand cuffed myself, but I am too old and took this job too late in life to reach platinum status and fully expect to drop dead any day so why work the easiest job I have ever had but hate. I am not sure if I will ever pull the trigger but I am a fan of food trucks/trailers and holy moly they are incredibly mediocre here.

      • Tulip

        What would be your menu?

      • rhywun

After my job was exported from Manhattan to Jersey City around 2015, the variety of food trucks that parked in front of my new office building due to the almost complete lack of anywhere else to eat lunch were a godsend. Often a bit pricey but most of them had really good food.

I miss them almost as much as I miss the enormous variety of lunch joints I used to enjoy in the before the before times.

      • Floridaman

Well good luck, and let us know. I would chip in and I think that would be a common feel here. And if you didn’t want charity, crowd funding is always an option.

      • Tulip

What charity? I expect a return!

      • pistoffnick

I’d buy your plow disk tacos!

There is a truck here in Doloot that sells deep fried reuben balls and occasionally green chicken curry tacos that I like.

      • Tulip

There’s a place in Columbus that does sauerkraut sausage balls. Served with blue cheese dressing. They are awesome

      • Mojeaux

Oooooh Floridaman has the right idea. I would totally pitch in for you for a food truck.

      • Bobarian LMD

A guy who worked for me in the military went this route when he retired, mostly working festivals/events. Did it for a couple of years with his kids. He made really good money on occasion, but his school age kids aged out and the work can be back-breaking.

Sold the whole set-up for a profit last spring. Turns out he’s fucking Nosterdamus,

    • Nephilium

/early 80s possibly regional commercial quote

      • kinnath

Right. Even with the 10% paycut for half a year, we won’t get a tax credit in April 2021.

We are evil rich. And Biden/Harris are coming for us.

      • Bobarian LMD

        Me too.

      • hayeksplosives

I’m right there with ya, buddy. Unfortunately, When I budgeted for living in California, I hadn’t counted on subsidizing a mass public delusion for an emergency period of unknown duration.

They can only milk us tax cattle for so long.

      • kinnath

        Except I live in Iowa.

We actually are quite well off by most standards.

Of course, watching Congress destroy the economy when retirement is on the horizon is pretty frightening.

      • hayeksplosives

I have gotten soft, allowing myself to enjoy the fruits of my labor: replacing items I might have taken hours to repair when I had no money, choosing the non-stop flights, using Tupperware instead of old cottage cheese tubs, etc.

I think it’s time to start deflating the expenditures again, even though my time has value.

First world problems. I wouldn’t even mind if it were not so totally avoidable, but the fact that our “elites” are doing this on purpose fills me with murderous rage.

      • Tulip

Yeah, I’m definitely cutting back, despite this trip. And I used rewards for strip, so no out of pocket. Well, $7 each for flight and car.

      • zwak

I need to get out of Dodge for a bit, both for me and my wife sanity. This WFH BS is rough on her, but I am pretty much retired now, so I get to go. I am thinking of driving around the west for a week.

Speaking of imports, I always think about the velocity of money. Programs like this always make me wonder how many turns the money makes stateside before WalMart finally sends all of it to China.

      • robc

China spends it all back in the US. Just that they stupidly spend a big chunk of it on T-bills instead of stuff.

China owns about $1.1T in US debt.

What is the saying…if you owe the bank $1MM you have a problem. If you owe the bank $100MM the bank has a problem.

    • Mojeaux

      A 0.55% interest rate.

      • Floridaman

      • Floridaman

        Huh nice.

      • Mojeaux

0.80% up to $10,000, then 0.55% on amounts over that.

/pulls up score of the Stillers/Bengals game just in case.

What the hell is happening? Bengals up by 10 points? Stillers getting no first downs in the first quarter and two fumbles recovered by the Bengals? And an interception?

/expects the Stillers/Browns game to be flexed to the prime time game again, screwing the fans and bars.

    • rhywun

      Bengals up by 10 points?

      17 ?

    • Mojeaux

This game has been quite entertaining.

      • hayeksplosives

No doubt! I had been bummed about what a boring game it would be, but I sighed too soon!

      • Mojeaux

The Stillers probably shouldn’t have gone in and immediately danced all over the Bengals’s logo.

      • Nephilium

I have been laughing quite a bit just watching the highlights. It’ll be strange trying to go cross eyed to watch the Stillers/Colts and Browns/Jets on Sunday.

/Browns haven’t won their division since 1989, and are still in the hunt this year (assuming the Bengals continue on this path).

      • Mojeaux

Now that was a lovely QB sneak.

      • hayeksplosives

Hahahaha! Another Bengals TD. Tomlin did not look happy.

Still to early to get comfy; there’s a heck of a lot of game left, and the Steelers are the better team.

        But just for tonight…

      • Mojeaux

Mr. Mojeaux thinks the Stillers are worse than their record indicates.

      • Nephilium

Yep. Lots of game left. I was expecting to check the score a couple times and not watching it at all. Now I’ve got it streaming to my phone while I’ve got the web page up showing plays as well (the fact the web page is updated before the play is run on the stream is annoying me, and making me consider a wire scam).

        Ummm… Go Bengals?!

        Go Colts?!

  14. Ownbestenemy

    What a wonderful friend Yusef.

  15. Gender Traitor

    Good doggie! Nice pics, Yu!

    • Fourscore

You have a good friend, Yusef. I have a fox or two that come every night to eat sunflower seeds under the bird feeders. The deer are showing up at night too, under the yard light. Glad they take no effort on my part, just watch them and they take care of themselves.

      • hayeksplosives

Foxes have an ethereal quality. Maybe because I’ve only encountered them a few times up close—always in the snow in the wee hours of the morning. They are quiet and graceful, as well as a bit shy.

      • Tulip

I hear them ‘barking’ in my neighborhood. And sometimes almost screaming. They can be loud.

      • kinnath

So, what does the fox say?

      • hayeksplosives

I don’t typically like to put out “themed” dish towels in the kitchen, but I made an exception for the tea towel that currently graces the oven door handle.

It says “Not a creature was stirring, not even a“
printed above a Santa hat-wearing mouse mixing a cocktail, and uttering the word bubble “Guess again, bitch.”

    So festive.

    • straffinrun

Don’t think we’ve got two matching dish towels let alone two matching glasses.

  18. Timeloose

My Lemmy turned 10 this year. He is still a great dog. The one thing I could never break him of is barking at the mail or UPS guy.

He has been liking that I work mainly from home now, but I think he misses out on the sleep he normally got during the day.

    • hayeksplosives

He’s noticed that the routine has changed and is standing by by to take on any new duties that his Clan Chief has for him in these changing times.

      Or he loves you.

    • Tulip

My dog stays in the room I’m in. She was always upstairs, on the bed, when I would come home before. I could hear her coming down the stairs while I unlocked the door. She just sleeps on the couch instead of the bed now.

  21. slumbrew

Made a total rookie mistake this evening:

    – remove pan from 450° oven
    – remove chicken from pan
    – unthinkingly grab handle of pan

Dope. Should have put something on the handle the second I took it out of the oven.

    • hayeksplosives

I did that with a Turkey pan once. Out of the oven using mitts, then I needed more room so I grabbed the U-handle, which was relatively narrow, with my unmitted hand, fully enclosing the handle.

Burned like heck, but was so narrow that it didn’t give off heat fast enough to warn my approaching hand.

I ran water over the hand, wrapped it in a paper towel and electrical tape and moved on.

The next day, the wound was healing with my fingers stuck to my palm. Had to go to the doctor to have her rip them back apart.

      Do not recommend. Lesson learned.

      • slumbrew

        Ouch.

I think I got off light – realized what I had done quite quickly, right under very cold running water. It seems to be doing OK right now.

      • Chafed

Are you sure it’s not Covid? I hear it’s everywhere and is the sole cause of misery. You should get a test.

      • hayeksplosives

        That’s good.

I’d have healed up ok too if I had adequately separated the fingers from palm during the healing. But then Thanksgiving dinner wasn’t going to make itself.

That must have been 10 years ago or more. Silly me.

    • Tulip

I did that recently. I have a new small oven safe fry pan. Took it out of toaster oven with mitts, then went to turn handle with bare hand. Yowza!

      • mikey

I this a Glib thing? The big blister on my palm is almost healed. 450 degree cast iron handle and didnt have the mit positioned correcly.

        i

      • Toxteth O'Grady

Slight scar on back of hand from putting in a dish mittless and hitting the oven’s heat element.

Ove Glove FTW. The short silicone mittens are good too.

      • one true athena

I have a burn on the back of my hand from trying to put the oven thermomenter in the right place and bumping the oven rack. I wasn’t even drinking! I really should buy silicon gloves, I’m such a klutz with hot things.

heterochromia can be either two different colored eyes (Huskies, Aussie Border Collies, etc.) or what Penny has – sectoral heterochromia, where an eye has two colors. She happens to have that in both eyes, and the same two colors.

Those “cracked glass” eyes are common(?) in Catahoula Leopard Dogs, which I think she is, in part (along with american staffie).

Sure but you missed the chance to name him/her/xer Malcolm.

        I’ll bite – why Malcom?

        Because MikeS loves AC/DC.

      Urge to kill: Rising.

Tomorrow I’m going to sign the recall petition. I’m also going to make a point of directing my business to places that host petition signings and/ or flout the “rules.”

I have a handful of days off. A little cash, and a long-standing plan to celebrate this season.

Oh, thank ya kindly, massah! Two whole drinks to go. Yeah, that’s going to save restaurants. I don’t blame them for grasping at straws and it won’t hurt, but I really doubt it’s going to be the lifeline it’s portrayed to be.

Here’s a ducking idea. No limit. End the OLCC’s monopoly on liquor sales, along with bottle deposits and fake marijuana legalization. And end the ban on self service gasoline.

    • egould310

I was in Coos Bay on Thursday. Pulled into a Chevron and and began to pump gas. A big fat guy came out and started asking me questions and then I remembered I was in OR. I told the dude I’d be happy to pump my own gas, and he said “sure” and went and helped a car that pulled in.

Something weird about a dude pumping gas for another dude. I don’t like it.

      • Gustave Lytton

The self service ban isn’t even statewide anymore. Three different sets of rules now.

        https://geo.maps.arcgis.com/apps/View/index.html?appid=fe6b92d4da52481483898a871928588c

Sadly, paying off the most rural counties seems to have slowed momentum towards a statewide repeal. The thing I really don’t get is all these Califuckwards are busy remaking the state in California’s image but they can’t do the one thing that would actually improve life here? Along with shutting down the state liquor monopoly. Can we imitate those two things?

    • Chafed

All the videos of Portland make me think people there aren’t capable of pumping their own gas.

      • Gustave Lytton

Sadly I think this might be right.

For about a month we had statewide self service at the initial covid panic. Then the betters woke up and realized that if it went on, people might realize there’s not a need for the ban. And for the selfless servants enforcing the ban. That’s my speculation.

There is something wrong with you. There, I said it.

      • Master JaimeRoberto (royal we/us)

The list of people who won’t walk your dog or pick up its poop? Ok.

      • Chafed

I love my dog but I hate inconsiderate dog owners who don’t pick up after their dog poop.

      • Ownbestenemy

Yeah that is just being an asshole. The ONLY time I have never picked up the business is when it was cause it was sick…but then again, it was in rocks and not in a path or grassy area so I left it.

    • straffinrun

Little dogs, mean big dogs and dogs with stupid owners. Those dogs I hate.

    • Plinker762

The Lewis and Clark expedition loved dogs, they found them quite tasty.

Not sure anyone is up…but here is my current quandary.

Son who picked up and took naturally to guitar wants lessons now. Problem is his grades are in the tank.

    I hate being a parent.

    • straffinrun

      Make him pick.

      • Ownbestenemy

I want him to enjoy it…he is at the stage in his self learning where he is watching videos and picking up what they are playing. I also don’t want him to be a dumbass.

      • straffinrun

Most people would need a real teacher to push over a certain level. Self learning is a good start, though.

      • Ownbestenemy

Okay the real battle is the wife. For me, this is your passion? Okay. Life has a way of teaching you as you go. Get him the lessons cause this is the first time he has expressed any real interest to anything.

      • straffinrun

If it’s a reasonable price, do it. It’s good for him.

      • limey

He can go to night school for his grades when he has grown up some. Something like guitar needs to be nurtured now while he’s young.

    Morning, Glibs.

My work VPN connects just fine, but I can’t connect to my work desktop, so I’m not sure if I can work today.

      Mornin’

Have you checked the thermostat ?

      • UnCivilServant

Not my job, that’s the building manager’s responsibility.

      • Gender Traitor

Mornin’, gentlemen. UCS – if you can’t connect, would you have to go into the office in person? Or would that be unthinkable? (If all your equipment is at home, I guess it would be too cumbersome.)

      • UnCivilServant

Nothing so complicated. I just opened a helpdesk ticket to have someone poke the computer on my work desk.

Pretty much everyone seems to have suffered a similar issue though. Network’s fine but something borked the desktop responsiveness overnight. We’re betting it was a patch.

Reading about the pork laden bill that will probably be passed today that gifts most people 600 of their stolen dollars back is really pissing me off. I need to find a better way to start my days other than anger.

    • Tres Cool

Some of the employees at work (teamsters, mostly) are always talking about “gettin’ that check”. I’ve tried explaining that they’re just getting taxed money back, which was taken in the 1st place, but it fails to resonate.

    • TARDis

I need to find a better way to start my days other than anger.

That is getting more difficult by the day. $2.3 trillion dollars, with a whole bunch of foreign aid for shitholes around the world.

Meanwhile, I’ll be getting nothing, and like it!

Six hundred bucks is sort of a slap in the face. I’m not going to refuse the money but for fuck’s sake, people can’t work under penalty of jail in some cases and this is what they get? I’d say drop the shutdowns and open up but, barring that, this is bullshit.

      • Fourscore

The 900 B adds another $2700 debt for everyone, I’m thinking the line up of illegals waiting to scale the wall will go away when they realize the mistake they are about to make. We’re all in for a -83K already.

So… my sister’s boss’s mother tested positive for the ‘VID, and boss has both visited her mother recently AND come into the shop, so my sister is going to get tested today. She says she doesn’t know if she’ll get the results before Christmas. We may be observing Orthodox Christmas this year.

    • Tres Cool

Just wait till the end of the year and make it a “HannuKwanzaaMas” celebration. And since yesterday was the solstice, hold it at Sun Watch village.

    • FESTUS IS AN ESSENTIAL WORKER! KNEEL BEFORE FESTUS!

Yay! Perogies and sausages and cabbage rolls! I’d choose that over turkey any old time!

    • robc

As much as I think the stimulus checks are a bad idea, I would much rather have 100% of the stimulus come as tax prebates than that shit.

$900B divides by $300M is $3000. A $3000 check to every US citizen would be much better than this actual bill.

    • Gender Traitor

They’re the Milli Vanilli models where it’s not your voice coming out.

Based on much of the karaoke I’ve heard, that would be a definite improvement.

  30. FESTUS IS AN ESSENTIAL WORKER! KNEEL BEFORE FESTUS!

Mornin’ Glibbies! My day had some turns. First the Good – Woke up with all of my faculties and appendages intact, Yoga pants girl was working the parcel line and I found out that the schedule has shifted allowing me to take two (yes, TWO) days off later this week! Then the bad – Judi’s car needs some maintenance right now that she neglected to tell me about and it will use up my Trudeau Bucks and make me a shade tree mechanic in the middle of winter. We had another “white powder” incident at work last night which turned out to be styrofoam microbeads used in packaging. Stole an hour of my life. The Ugly? I’m not gonna let it get to me anymore. All that shit is beyond my purview.

    • Tres Cool

Just say “serenity now!” enough times.
the other day someone referenced the Navajo (?) “walk in beauty” concept. Just think of yoga pants.

      • FESTUS IS AN ESSENTIAL WORKER! KNEEL BEFORE FESTUS!

At least you didn’t have a “white power” incident.

      • FESTUS IS AN ESSENTIAL WORKER! KNEEL BEFORE FESTUS!
