As with many Americans, my emotions have been on a roller coaster, steadily increasing from the time the words WuFlu were first uttered, through riots, an election for the ages, a mob scene at the federal capital and the resulting removal of right wingers from (im?)polite society. I’ve been angry at the hypocrisy, frustrated by the gas-lighting, worried about a potential collapse of the economy on par with the Great Depression, and worst of all, sad about the future my three pre-teen to early teen kids will have.
With all of that happening, I try to grab some light-hearted music to play on my Bluetooth earplugs at work. Mainstream radio-driven country music from the last decade is mostly vacuous garbage, but there are some ok tunes. I happened to find an old playlist of mine called ‘New Country’ from about five years ago. I think I made this one for our road trip to South Carolina to keep the kids happy. Anyway, a couple songs popped up that made me think of current events in a bit different way.
First, let’s listen to what may be the song that most perfectly encompasses my thoughts and feelings about current events and life in general. The video is worth watching, if only once. It’s ‘cute’.
Lyrics:
Taking down your neighbor won’t take you any higher
I burned my own damn finger poking someone else’s fire
I’ve never gotten taller making someone else feel small
If you ain’t got nothing nice to say don’t say nothing at all
Chorus:
Just hoe your own row and raise your own babies
Smoke your own smoke and grow your own daisies
Mend your own fences and own your own crazy
Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy
Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy
Nobody’s perfect, we’ve all lost and we’ve all lied
Most of us have cheated the rest of us have tried
The holiest of the holy even slip from time to time
We’ve all got dirty laundry hanging on the line
Repeat Chorus
Pouring salt in my sugar won’t make yours any
Pissing in my yard ain’t gonna make yours any greener*
I wouldn’t know about the rocks in your shoes
So I’ll just do me and honey you can just do you
* This is my favorite line and seeing it come out of such an innocent looking woman adds the cherry on top.
Frankly, I could drop the mike at this point, but there is another song that many would do well to take to heart right now. !!Watch the video!! It’s hilarious!
Lyrics:
We ain’t East, we ain’t West
We ain’t left, we ain’t right
We ain’t black, we ain’t white
We just came here to drink
We’re all mud flap suburbans
All ball caps and turbans
All prom queens and strippers
Where the whole kitchen sink and then here,
We’re the same, everyone knows your name
We just raise up our glass
We don’t give a rat’s ass
If you’re a democrat or republican
We’re happy to be here and that you can see
We’re just all drunk Americans
We ain’t second ex wives,
We ain’t cowboys or redskins
We ain’t preachers or kingpins
We’re just having fun
We’re all suits in blue collars
Short orders long hollers
Paper and plastic, too old and too young
CEOs, GEDs, DUIs, FBIs, PHDs
And we raise up our glass
We don’t give a rat’s ass
If your belly’s too fat, or your wallet’s too thin
We’re happy to be here and that you can see
We’re just all drunk Americans
We been in, we been out
we been cool, we been weird
Thank God we’re still here
In the land of the free
And we all, singin’ wrong
But we all sing along
Sing along
We just raise up our glass
We don’t give a rat’s ass
If you’re a democrat or republican
We’re happy to be here and that you can see
We’re just all drunk Americans
In these neon lights
We’re all stars we’re all stripes
And We’re all drunk Americans
I had a couple more, but better to keep the audience wanting, amirite?! Hopefully this added a little fun to your day since we could all use it. I’m not a religious person, but let me leave you with the words of the great philosopher Billy Currington:
God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.
P.S. Copying links sent me down a rabbit hole. Billy Currington has some funny videos. Dog lovers and hen-pecked husbands (among others) will like this one. I also dug up some underground, never before seen footage of a yokel Glib get together.
I’m making Firsting great again after UCS soiled the spot it in the PM links. It’s like wearing a pair of someone else’s shit stained underwear right now. Just feel dirty, but it has to be done. I’m healing the First.
KEEP FIRSTING GREAT!

LOL
My lighthearted contribution
She has some winners.
A couple of hers were on the list. She’s got some spunk.
Went on a date with her once upon a time. Was annoyed b y how much she talked about how great she was. Like many in the biz she seems very insecure despite having accomplished so much. I guess it’s human nature and it’s perverted when you are surrounded by people kissing the ground you walk on and know you don’t deserve it. It makes for some amazing accomplishments, but a shitty personal life.
Interesting songs that I would have never likely heard, I like the first one more.
Regarding Toby Keith’s song, community bars/restaurants are absolutely essential to humanity and perhaps immoral to think otherwise. Comradery saves lives!
I think an added benefit for the politicians is the fact that people aren’t talking about these issues in person in relaxed, fun settings where relationships are built upon. If they were, I think most of this shit would go away essentially.

Seconded.
Fucken rednecks. Who let this guy in?
Kacey Musgraves has a great voice as well as some nice drumsticks.
Also, thanks for the post Stillhunter.
You’re welcome. It was fun.

She didn’t show her ass.
We can only assume that she has one. She’s a keen equestrian. Girls that ride horses usually seem to have excellent glutes.
You guess that by the legs and ass. You just know it.
Dude, that’s the horse’s.
Can confirm.
Love them biscuits!
I made a couple biscuits with my dinner.
I really don’t like biscuits. They’re invariably too dry.
I like KFC biscuits
*hides from all the southerners*
If you must do fast food biscuits, I’d suggest Bojangles’. I don’t know what it is, but they’re always moist and flavorful.
Hardee’s does the best biscuits, it is known.
There is a McDonalds off I-64 just before you pass out of KY into WV. Clearly an employee said, “I don’t know what the hell these are, but they aint biscuits”, threw what McDs sent away and made their own. I use to stop there every time I passed (which wasn’t that often), just to get a sausage biscuit with those biscuits.
Hardees. Hardees’ biscuits are the only ones I could call “good”.
You misspelled Church’s.
I’ve never even seen one of those, what region are they in?
We have them here in Ohio. They’re primarily fried chicken.
Locally, there is a place that makes legitimately good biscuits: Sweet Mimi’s in downtown Saratoga.
Of course, they also charge $4.50 a piece for them so they’d better be flippin’ good.
I don’t know the full extent of their range. They’re a chicken chain, much less common that KFC, and less common than Popeyes. I don’t know if their territories overlap with Bojangles or not, sinct I’ve never seen both in the same towns.
I’ve seen Church’s in Central TX, Austin, and OK.
You just need fresh butter, and plenty of it. Honey’s good too.
Dammit. Now I’m all hungry.
“…too dry.”

Good stuff, Still Hunter. This past year has had a lot of down days, not so many ups, but we keep on keepin’ on. The days are getting longer and brighter. I’m a little more optimistic than some. The left will soon discover that all the BS affects them and their families as well, it’s not just punishment for the rest of us.
When I was a much younger man (kid) the Fourscores were pretty much bottom shelf, economically speaking. Often in the nice weather, on a Sunday, my Mom would pack a picnic lunch and the family would get in the clunker car and go somewhere for a drive. To a fish hatchery, the zoo, arboretum, somewhere with no admission fee. Have our picnic lunch, us kids would run around like kids do.
I tried to do that with my own kids, although often was an admission fee but to the caves near Austin, 6 Flags or the African animal park near Dallas, out to a lake and fish from the bank. I’m not sure much of that was going on this past year, cell phones, video games, whatever , may be the new pastimes. Thanks for your music, a good reminder..
I notice it more now that I am WFH. And really appreciating it. I can’t wait for some extra daylight after work.
That’s what daylight saving time is for.
We try to do similar things that are low cost with our kids. Anyone with 3 kids knows how much it costs to eat out or go to a major attraction.
the caves near Austin, 6 Flags or the African animal park near Dallas, out to a lake and fish from the bank. I’m not sure much of that was going on this past year
I can assure you it still is. We just went to the Dallas zoo last Monday. I’ve had the 3 year old out fishing 3 or 4 times since summer. We went camping with the telescope during the jupiter-saturn conjunction in December. Trips to the park are a multiple per week occurrence.
There are still things we wish would return to normal and the mask culture makes some things harder, but kids are still kids, and the outlets are still available for them to have fun, at least here in Texas.
That’s it. I’m not crossing the Pacific ever again until these bodies are floating in it.

“Nobody should have to risk their life for their livelihood.”

Check your male privilege, dbl.
Nora Ephron would talk about how men were wonderful and did all these things she didn’t want to do and it was part of the rich balance of life. . . not that I entirely disagree.
But I always saw it the other way (very similar to the anti-trust critique): if women had had greater roles in many industries earlier, lots of things would have been outsmarted instead of out-muscled. Maybe skyscrapers should be pre-fab out of fiberglass; maybe 90% of combat should be done by drones; etc………but we’ll never know how it could have been because half the brains in the country didn’t participate because of the inertia of heavy labor.
I would say that until the Pill, the other half was busy having and rearing children. Pregnancy brain is real, yo, and kids are a handful. Probably not a whole lot of deep thinking going on.
Sure: I’m not gunning for anyone.
I just see how design evolves. No one thinks about some idea, then someone finally does it and then everyone thinks it’s so obvious.
Suspension bridges replace bending elements, pneumatic tires replace solid wheels, detergents replace soap, three blades on a razor, LED bulbs . . . at some point, at some scale, at some price, an idea breaks through and then kids don’t even know it was ever any other way.
Oh no, I understand totally. I didn’t think you were gunning for anybody.

Prediction: They’ll feel safe as soon as Biden throws a bunch of money at their Union.
Comment in a different teacher/covid/fuckery thread had the interesting theory that I think i agree with — part of the massive pushback in blue cities from the teachers unions is how WFH is a status thing and “essential workers” are the pitiable working class, and these teachers can’t stand tangentially being like them.
Granted, I think Getting Mo’ Money is also a part of it, but the virulent goalpost shifting and tapdancing for every excuse suggests a deeper problem than just holding the city hostage for funding.
funding
Almost no one looks at their situation and says: I am the reason I am not making the money that I want.
It’s always something, somebody else. Some are lucky, some work hard, some are brilliant, but sitting on your ass bitching ain’t never made anyone a buck.
Part of it is status, and part of it is seeing how far they can push things during a pandemic that they already wanted to do anyway.
AND BY LIGHT-HEARTED MEAN….

Sen. Leahy has been taken to the hospital. He is presiding over the second impeachment trial.
Hope this is nothing serious but he is 80 years old.
Yeah, I disagree with him on almost anything but hope he comes out OK. I don’t wish serious illness on anyone.
Oh, that could move the senate to 49-50. And THAT would be interesting right now.
Vermont’s governor is a Republican, though of the RINO variety. He is allowed, under Vermont law, to appoint a temporary replacement if a US Senate seat becomes vacant. A special election for a replacement must be held within six months of the vacancy.
That is a window to vote on senate rules that Kamalamadingdong has zero say during.
Like I said, very interesting.
I mean, I don’t get why it’s so bad to wish terrible things on terrible people. The guy has been a parasite throughout his adult life.
“We are each the villain in someone else’s story.”
Meaning, I totally expect there are people out there who wish bad things upon me.
Just make a twitter account if you’d like to meet some of them.
Being the kind of person to wish harm upon others is detrimental to one’s soul. It doesn’t change the victims circumstance, it changes the wisher’s.
Laughing at the misfortune of rotten people leaves me feeling fine, personally. No soul-damage here.
It’s a bit schadenfreude-ish, though.
Conan heartily disagrees. Of course, I never knew what a lamentation was.
I wish the most terrible thing on terrible people: that they would grow a conscience.
Governor of Vermont, Phil Scott, is a Republican. So if Leahy croaked….? Scott, however, won re-election in 2020 with 69% of the vote, in a state easily carried by Biden, so one wonders how “RINO” a senator appointment would be.
Mitt Romney Takes notes on where to carpet bag next if he is ousted in his next primary.
Wait? why isn’t Roberts presiding the Impeachment Trial?
Chief Justice only presides for the trial of the president. Trump isn’t president. So sayeth Roberts.
Nice, So Roberts pretty much opined that he is doubtful of the constitutionality of this.
That’s definitely my take.
Or, since he’s not obligated to justify himself, he’s saying he’s not going to touch that steaming pile of shit with a 10m pole regardless of whether it’s constitutional or not.
Chief Justice only has to preside over the impeachment of the President. Trump isn’t President anymore. I don’t know who made the decision that Roberts wasn’t going to preside over the Impeachment Trial but it came out a couple of days ago.
Roberts also got it in his head that his job is to maintain the reputation of the Supreme Court. Not realizing ruling against the Constitution undermines it. Regardless he knows there would be no winning this regardless of his decisions on the case.

I can’t believe how many things have changed, and how many things haven’t.
And, why in the hell would a motherboard have 2 Mini DisplayPort INPUTS?
inputs? some sort of daisy chain capability? what make/model are you looking at?
Yes. Just figured it out.
The motherboard has thunderbolt out.
If the GFX card has DisplayPort out, it’s routed through the motherboard and converted to thunderbolt, where it can be daisy chained.
Thunderbolt is still a thing on PCs? I thought only Macs were beholden to that claptrap anymore.
It should be.

There was some love for Kim’s hat in the Zoom meeting last weekend. Lot’s of people seemed to have missed Donald’s pit stains that were there from the beginning, but no one seemed to notice the cum stain that showed up under the UV lights in Kim’s Hat’s last appearance.
Darn it! I missed Kristen! I wanted to post this song for her aurora watching. Reasonably on topic, too.
Today I did a job for a guy wearing two masks. He was also vaccinated the day before and was doing a terrible job of mask hygiene by continually adjusting and touching the two of them. He commented that my neck gaiter wasn’t very useful. I replied back that social distancing was more effective as he was hovering around me the whole time I was working. On the ride away to the next place I thought how wonderful it would have been if Trump had gone in on the mask thing back in April. “There’s even people who are making these masks, amazing really. Trump Masks they say, that’s right, it’s the best cloth. You wouldn’t believe how soft it is, like it’s not even there. And they’re beautiful, both the masks and those that Americans that make them. You’d all look very good wearing them.”
The mask bullshit would have ended a lot sooner.
Maybe next time he should wear 3…no wait, 4 masks. It would be 4 billion times effective.
3 is the new 2 they say.
I could go with no pieces of flair.
They would have referenced the numerous studies that found that surgical masks have no impact in infection rates. Then they would have pored over all of Trump’s investments until they found some sliver of ownership in a company that makes fabric that might be used in some types of surgical masks, which would of course be presented as rock-solid evidence (and grounds for impeachment) that he’s trying to force the public to buy ineffective masks to enrich himself.
You would think that with the never before in history availability of information that more people would have picked up that the whole masking thing has been less than effective. For me, the mask thing is one of the worst parts of this whole shitshow. There are decades of studies that show that masks don’t do anything to prevent the flu in most situations and especially in a non clinical setting. For the next decade criminals are going to be taking advantage of masking. That is only one of the negatives, they dehumanize people. We need to see people’s faces for a reason. We are still just naked apes.
You might overestimate Trump’s impact. The mask thing is bigger than Trump. In Europe they were imposing bans on masks’ exports in February 2020.
It is late but more fun with neighbors. Topic tonight is executive orders. I explained that EOs are acceptable in that they direct executive level departments to operate how they see fit under the construct of the law that governs them. That is as far as I got. They were lost. I drank more bourbon.

Mornin.
Howdy,
Good morning, Sean & Yu.
Good morning GT. I saw your response about the fellow who penned Bud adverts; that’s really cool. I find jingle writing to be fascinating and impressive.
Thanks! He was a bit of an advertising genius, but always considered himself first and foremost a salesman. (I’m told he also wrote the text at the top of the Bud label: “This is the famous Budweiser beer…”)
Morning, GT. How are things in your neck of the woods?
Morning, UCS. OK, though after going to the Y yesterday for the first time in over a month, I’m a bit stiff this morning. Howzabout you?
I’m stressed at work and have this irrational fear that I’ve driven you off with the scrap anthology.
Oh, not at all! My reading time tends to evaporate during the work week, but I have a hair appointment today, so I might have time to get a little further this afternoon.
Hope work calms down for you.
I just checked my calendar – only two hours not filled with meetings (fun /sarc). After-hours work tomorrow (but slightly fewer meetings). And managers asking this week for time-consuming information collection due last week.
This week at my job is all about plowing through the mountain of returned mail (mostly month- and quarter-end statements,) flagging accounts in the system, sending e-mails if we have e-dresses, etc. The kind of task that puts the tedium back into monotony. Made progress yesterday though. Maybe get close to caught up by week’s end? Then start over with payroll & month-end on Monday. : /
Joy.
How goes it GT?
See reply to UCS above. How are you? Are you still mushroom farming, or am I behind the times?
‘sup fam
TALL CANS !
Tall Coffee from the mushroom farm!
‘sup, Homey? How’s the weather out there?
Cold and damp.
I dont know if we’re expected to get snow or not.
For the record, Gabrielle Enright checks most of my boxes.
I just spilled coffee in my lap, what a mess!
Hope it wasn’t too hot! : (
You should sue.
“The Case of Yusef vs Yusef’s Coffee is now in session.”
Heh.
But does he have grounds to sue?
There’s no remedy the court can offer, but the coffee has terrible representation.
Yusef has standing, but if he’d been standing, the spill wouldn’t have been so much of a problem.
Obiligatory.
Counsel always arrives latte to court ?
Cold, dry, except for my pants,
*waggles eyebrows*
That is, after all, what she said.
Morning all.
Good (checks int’l time) afternoon, limey.
FUCK THE USPS.
That missing car payment bill due 12/29/20 just showed up in yesterday’s mail.
Fucking assholes.
Poor Joe.
We demand a million helicopters and a dollar!
I think Mr. Magoo had it more together than Joe does.
