I am First of Firsters. I have not yet found one worthy of carrying my seed, but I fear that if that day comes, I may be supplanted by my own child. It will be a battle the likes of which hasn’t been seen since Zeus overthrew Cronus. I fear it will be an even greater struggle. For there can be only one.

    • Tres Cool

You know the rules- a valid first only contains comments on the links. Your 1st is as illegitimate as Trump’s presidency.

      Fuck off, commie.

I imagine the Bro having a huge map with thumbtacks and strings connecting them, which he uses to plot out how to reliably take that which no one else really cares about. I’m a little jealous. I wish I could find great joy and pride in collecting utterly useless garbage.

“Baggie recipients might consider passing off their dank freebie to those currently suffering from the coronavirus, as a recent study found that cannabis extracts could possibly reduce the risk of dying from COVID-19. Researchers at the University of Lethbridge in Canada reported that the human body’s often fatal “cytokine storm” — during which the malfunctioning immune system attacks itself — was calmed by using three promising strains of sativa plants.”

Australia unlikely to fully reopen border in 2021, says top official

Australia is unlikely to fully open its borders in 2021 even if most of its population gets vaccinated this year as planned, says a senior health official.

The comments dampen hopes raised by airlines that travel to and from the country could resume as early as July.

Department of Health Secretary Brendan Murphy made the prediction after being asked about the coronavirus’ escalation in other nations.

Dr Murphy spearheaded Australia’s early action to close its borders last March.

“I think that we’ll go most of this year with still substantial border restrictions,” he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on Monday.

“Even if we have a lot of the population vaccinated, we don’t know whether that will prevent transmission of the virus,” he said, adding that he believed quarantine requirements for travellers would continue “for some time”.

Citizens, permanent residents and those with exemptions are allowed to enter Australia if they complete a 14-day hotel quarantine at their own expense.

    I fucking love science.

    • Raven Nation

Man, doesn’t look like I’ll be getting there this year either.

I went look for the story on another site and came up with these gems:

“When the coronavirus pandemic swept the globe, killing hundreds of thousands in its wake, President Donald Trump’s new way of running the country suddenly left America exposed.” Could be true – but how is it possible to know if an alternative approach would be any better?

“After four years of chaos, Donald Trump leaves behind a harsher, meaner America”

yes, yes, only Trump is mean & harsh.

  7. Rebel Scum

I guess the dinosaurs were massive racists.

President-elect Joe Biden named progressive policy adviser Maggie Thomas as Office of Domestic Climate Policy chief of staff and climate advocate Cecilia Martinez as “senior director for environmental justice” on Thursday. Both Thomas and Martinez have cited racial inequality as perpetuating climate change, arguing that the Biden administration’s environmental policy must be centered on “racial and economic justice.”

“Unless intentionally interrupted, systemic racism will continue to be a major obstacle to creating a healthy planet,” Martinez said in a 2019 press release touting her “Equitable & Just” climate platform. “The only path forward is to design national climate policies that are centered on justice.”

For Thomas and Martinez, such policies require “massive” government spending and the “realignment of public dollars at all levels.” Thomas’s climate plan demands “trillions” in public investment—not only to “crack down” on oil production and shift away from the nation’s “fossil fuel economy” but also to fund welfare programs, including rent and utility relief. Martinez’s platform calls for much of the same, including increased government investment into “affordable and quality housing.”

Fauci says people who had Covid already “should wait about 90 days until after they have gotten the infection” before getting vaccinated

So why are we vaccinating those who recently had Covid *with priority*?

The same people who think Fauci is always correct are ignoring this

A thought occurred to me that the reason they are telling people to get vaccinated even if they have tested positive for the ro is they know the testing apparatus is so fubar they honestly have no idea whose actually had the disease. Now they are noticing statistically significant adverse reactions to the vaccine by people who recently tested positive they are in a pickle because they actually can’t come out and say they know the tests are fubar because they’ve driven so much of their lockdown policies on total % positives. But that can’t be because that would mean these people are all fucking criminals and liars and it’s not about science at all.

    • Count Potato

“noticing statistically significant adverse reactions to the vaccine by people who recently tested positive”

What about asymptomatic “cases” who never got tested?

      • Idle Hands

I don’t think any of this matters. As an aside there is absolutely no chance I didn’t have this at some point given how many people I interact with who have that I’ve been exposed to. I also know someone who definitely had it in the last month who got a vaccine last week with no problem although she is under 30.

      • Suthenboy

lies and people talking out of their asses

    • Contrarian P

It’s because so much of this garbage is based on nothing so you’re getting some dude’s opinion.

I got asked to help write a school reopening plan for covid because the senior county pubic health official was a veterinarian. I looked around for any recommendations with actual evidence. There weren’t any.

I have a friend who just got over covid less than a month ago. She let me know she got her first vaccine injection today. I would never recommend that a patient with a recent case get the vaccine, especially since the only vaccine endpoint we’re sure of (engendering an immune response) already has happened.

The thing that upsets me the most about this is the expectation that public health officials are somehow smart and qualified. They aren’t. The EMS director for the system in the county where I work some of my shifts? He’s a family practice doctor with literally no experience in emergency care. It’s a pattern I’ve seen over and over again. People in charge of making medical decisions that might save or kill people often have very little relevant training or experience.

    Elon Musk slaying pussy.

Jamie Lynn Spears called Tesla “a secret cat-killer” and told CEO Elon Musk that he owes her a couple new feline friends.

The actress, singer and sister of Britney Spears said in a since-deleted Instagram video that her cats were run over by a Tesla they never heard coming. Teslas, like other electric cars, run quieter than vehicles with gas-powered engines.

“We have now lost — I don’t want to tell you how many cats — because they don’t hear the Tesla (TSLA) crank and unfortunate things happen and it’s really devastating and tragic for everyone involved,” she said in her Instagram post, according to multiple news reports that preserved the video.

German quarantine breakers to be held in refugee camps, detention centers

Germans who repeatedly refuse to quarantine after being exposed to COVID-19 will be held in detention centers — and even under police guard, according to reports.

Officials in the state of Saxony — which is experiencing one of the worst outbreaks in the European nation — have already approved plans to hold quarantine-breakers in a fenced-off section of a refugee camp, the Telegraph said.

Another state, Brandenburg, also plans to use a section of a refugee camp.

Trump will leave the White House Wednesday morning and fly out of Washington before 8 a.m. after issuing around 100 pardons to white collar criminals, high-profile rappers and a jailed Florida eye doctor, according to reports.

Fox News reported Monday that Lil Wayne, who is facing prison time for a 2019 gun charge, would be on the list, while former aide Steve Bannon is ‘TBD.’

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is not expected to receive a pardon from Trump despite a hard push by Assange’s supporters.”

It’s different when people I agree with do it.

Brazile said she is “sad” to hear people make the comparison because she never felt “unsafe” during the social justice protests. She said “there is no comparison” between the two because the chaos at the Capitol was “armed insurrectionists” and “militia.”

“I’m sad to hear all of this comparison,” Brazile stated. “We’re under siege. We had armed insurrections, militia, people driving around our neighborhoods. I mean, I never felt unsafe last summer. I was disappointed. I was angry. I condemned the people who went out with rocks and bottles following the deaths of unarmed black people across the country. I understood their frustration, but yet I said go home, we can deal with this. We can work together. There are laws that can be passed. But what happened on January 6, there is no comparison — armed militia, people are still coming into the District of Columbia with military-style weapons being stopped.”

Well, they did refrain from burning anything.

I finally got around to un-boxing the new baby welder. It’s just what I expected. Smoky, spattery flux core wire. Not very pretty welds, but that’s not what I bought it for. I can get into tight spots with it and either weld what I need to weld, or tack pieces which can then be tig welded. It will definitely keep a baby in place.

It will do an effective approximation of spot welds for body work, which is its primary mission.

Quick and dirty? maybe, but why not? I wouldn’t do structural or highly stressed parts with it, but that’s what the tig is for.

The Washington Post reports that a Washington nonprofit group called the Coalition for a Safer Web has sued tech giant Apple in federal court. The lawsuit, filed on Sunday, demands that the chat and social media app Telegram be removed from Apple’s App Store for failing to crack down on extremist conversation on its platform following protests at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

The suit is an attempt to force Apple to act against Telegram as it has against Parler, a social media website that was removed from the Apple and Google Play app stores. Breitbart News recently reported that Parler also had its Amazon Web Services account suspended, effectively shutting down the site.

The coalition’s president, Marc Ginsberg, a former U.S. ambassador to Morocco, commented in an interview: “Telegram stands out by itself as the superspreader [of hateful speech], even compared to Parler.”

I got an email from a proggie relative last week about “not being a Nazi”. The entire thing was about how right wing protests are filled with white supremacists who openly wear shirts and fly flags supporting Hitler and the Final Solution.

And if you are at a rally where you see these neo-Nazis you should immediately renounce all your previously held opinions and join the other side.

My reply pointing out that since anti-semitism was way more of a left wing thing (Omar, Tlaib, Warnock, etc) now and everyone should be supporting Trump was not received well.

“To understand Trump’s support, we must think in terms of multiracial Whiteness

Rooted in America’s ugly history of white supremacy, indigenous dispossession and anti-blackness, multiracial whiteness is an ideology invested in the unequal distribution of land, wealth, power and privilege — a form of hierarchy in which the standing of one section of the population is premised on the debasement of others. Multiracial whiteness reflects an understanding of whiteness as a political color and not simply a racial identity — a discriminatory worldview in which feelings of freedom and belonging are produced through the persecution and dehumanization of others.

Multiracial whiteness promises Latino Trump supporters freedom from the politics of diversity and recognition. For voters who see the very act of acknowledging one’s racial identity as itself racist, the politics of multiracial whiteness reinforces their desired approach to colorblind individualism. In the politics of multiracial whiteness, anyone can join the MAGA movement and engage in the wild freedom of unbridled rage and conspiracy theories.”

    Speaking of LARPers

At the end of December, Los Angeles Times Washington Bureau Chief Kimbriell Kelly was looking at getting Moleskine notebooks as gifts for her staff. A couple weeks later, she was procuring goods of a decidedly different kind: gas masks, helmets and body armor for LA Times staff members who will be attending Wednesday’s inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.
Newsrooms like the LA Times have distributed protective equipment and held safety trainings to prepare reporters for Inauguration Day. Protests and demonstrations around the ceremony in Washington, DC are typical, but after the riots on January 6, journalists are preparing for another violent outbreak.
“I quickly saw my role as a person who had to adapt,” Kelly told CNN Business. “My goal is to protect my staff, protect my reporters and make sure that everybody is taken care of.”
According to a bulletin obtained last week by CNN, the FBI has received information indicating “armed protests” are being planned at all 50 state capitols and the US Capitol in Washington in the days leading up to Biden’s inauguration. The Pentagon has authorized up 25,000 National Guard members for Inauguration Day.
In the days since the storming of the Capitol, authorities and the media have unearthed details and images that paint a picture of an attack that appears even more chilling and violent than what viewers saw on live TV that day. Among the images that have surfaced in the ensuing days includes some that show the mob attacking journalists who were there.
At least nine journalists were physically assaulted, at least five journalists were arrested and at least four had equipment damaged while covering the insurrection, US Press Freedom Tracker managing editor Kirstin McCudden told Poynter.

Why would anyone want to kick the shit out of a CNN or WaPo reporter? It makes no sense.

    • Pope Jimbo

Sure. It is going to be a blood bath in DC.

Just like the bloody, bloody protests at the Minnesoda capitol this weekend.

Protests to support President Donald Trump at the Minnesota Capitol on Saturday and Sunday drew only a handful of people. They came as authorities in state capitals across the country are on alert for possible violence ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday.

Dozens of state troopers and conservation officers in riot gear ringed the Capitol building in St. Paul both days. An armored vehicle was parked at the base of the Capitol steps, and National Guard armored vehicles blocked nearby streets.

As dumb as they are, the Trump supporters have pretty quickly figured out that showing up to a protest now is a sucker’s game. Any sizeable right wing demonstration is going to have enough counter protesters show up to turn everything into a shit show which will end up in them being blamed for everything.

How much of a nazi-white-supremacist am I for thinking there is a reason no picture of the perm was published in this story about Wisconsin Man engaging in traditional Wisconsin culture?

Authorities say the actions of an intoxicated man who drove his vehicle up the stairs of the Wisconsin Capitol grounds Saturday night did not appear to be politically motivated.

Police said Willie Burks, 44, of Madison, drove up the exterior steps on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and around the exterior of statehouse just before 9:30 p.m. He then left the capitol grounds and drove against traffic before parking his vehicle.

Burks was arrested for his third drunken driving offense and taken to the Dane County Jail. He was also charged with reckless driving, operating while suspended, driving against traffic and driving on the sidewalk.

Insane how much drinking and driving goes on during the winter among the snowmobilers. Drink at one bar, drive on the lake to the next bar and keep doing it all day.

In the old days most were kept safe by the fact that snowmobiles only started about 10% of the time. Today, not only are they reliable but you can do 100 mph at night blasting across a lake. Which is great for when you hit that pressure ridge, or depression of someone’s old spearing hole.

The organizers plan to distribute loose cannabis, as opposed to pre-rolled joints. Handing out free joints, they learned after doing as much during President Trump’s 2017 inauguration, leads to people smoking them on site and violating city law, in addition to being problematic to pandemic health protocol.

Are they handing out weed for Bidens inauguration or did that end with the Trump inauguration riot?

“Four years ago, we handed out over 10,000 joints — and we licked those joints,” DCMJ co-founder Adam Eidinger told DCist. “Today, we think that’s an issue.”

I’ve been noticing a lot of my left leaning friends and acquaintances posting MLK’s critique of capitalism and saying that unless we dismantle it and have wealth redistribution, then we can never achieve equality. It seems as though not only do you have to be actively anti racist but you must also be against the free enterprise system in order to live up to King’s expectations.

And also I guess multiracial whiteness is a new term for Uncle Tom.

All this depresses me because I have a 15 month old daughter and wonder why did I bring her into a world were people revel in their ignorance and actively pursue destroying others if they aren’t in lock step with their belief system. But like a friend told me, all I can do is teach her right from wrong and give her a sense of pride and integrity to not be a jealous spiteful shit that is bent on destruction.
