Good morning my Glibs and Gliberinas and what a lovely morning it always is!
Trump holds Georgia rally for GOP senate candidates.
Biden afraid of Trump supporters.
DC Mayor calls on National Guard but refused to during BLM/Antifa riots.
Month long lockdown for Scotland.
CDC reports record low positive flu tests (down 99.5%).
New York City’s painfully slow vaccination rate.
That’s all I got for today. I’ll leave you with a song and move along with my day.
Mawnin’
The development is the latest indication that Biden will be sworn in in a low-key way, assuming the Republicans’ expected attempts this week to challenge electors proves unsuccessful.
Barricaded in an armored underground bunker, surrounded by his medical team and the latest in life support wizardry: the machine that goes “ping”.
Heh.
Ugh! What comes out of his bottom to be swiftly whisked away? That’s SugarFree’s territory and I’ll not step on the giant’s toes.
Good Morning, Banjos!
“Snausages!”
HEY NOW!
It must burn that moron Kennedy that Jon Favreau is making her look like a fool. Ultimately, the dollar bill wins. If the new CEO has any sense whatsoever, he’ll clean house and put Favreau in charge of Marvel and Star Wars.
And I’m pleased that somebody is setting fire to the myth that JJ Abrams has any talent. There’s only so many lens flare shots one can stomach.
One. One lens flare.
In an establishing shot of a desert to show how hot the sun is.
Pull back and pan right to a lone man, riding a horse, warily scanning the trail ahead.
It’s all about the screen-wipes.
I’m quietly hoping they have Abrams direct a Star Wars/MCU crossover vehicle which results in the killing off of both genres and Disney.
You are my god.
Do you have a newsletter perchance?
Favreau was already involved in the launch of the MCU. Feige hasn’t gone too far gone yet in the MCU, the next phase will be the one that will tell us if he’s ready to jump the shark.
The “girl power” shot in the Avengers was absurd to say the least. And now Star Lord is bi? That’s gotta be just to fuck with Chris Pratt because he’s religious.
I’m not saying the Marvel movies are high art, but Favreau knows how to entertain, as evidenced by the first Iron Man movie which was decidedly fun.
Agreed on the girl power shot. The Star Lord thing has some history in the comics.
I’d also point out that Feige has done some course correction. After all the talk of Captain Marvel becoming the new “Captain America” of the team, after Larson was quoted telling men that this movie wasn’t for them, and they should stay home, Captain Marvel’s role in the future has been quietly reduced. Currently I’m looking forward to the Falcon and Winter Soldier show more then any of the movies that they’ve got planned.
Hell, I’ll push back on the claim that lady Captain Marvel is the most powerful character in the MCU. She withers before the might of Galactus, and by extension, the Silver Surfer. And nobody in the MCU can match the power of Uatu the Watcher.
One rumor that’s been kicking around since the Disney/Fox acquisition is that they’ll use the Captain Marvel movies to bring in the mutants. It would be a hell of an introduction to Rogue (and you could either have the bad
guygirl win, or change loyalties with a depowered Marvel). If I were Galactus I’d wear a much more jaunty chapeau. One of those beer hardhats with a dildo epoxied to the forehead or something.
You should really fear Omnipotus, devourer of worlds.
(For some reason, this episode is left off the DVD box sets of the Tick.)
/taps his external hard drive
The Tick would have been a go-to for me but by the time it appeared I had stopped smoking weed. I remember the kids watching it and chuckling along with them.
Relevant.
Nice work, OBJ!
*curtsies daintily*
I got most of the original black and white run of The Tick (“SPOOOOOON!”)
I even have a few issues of ‘Man-Eating-Cow‘ and ‘Paul the Samurai’.
MEC was pretty good, but Paul was kinda weak.
Because an invulnerable flying being needs help from her sisters to bypass infantry.
They’ve ruined Captain Marvel over and over in the comics and picked some of the worst aspects of that character to make the MCU character.
“Oh, and lets make the Skrulls the good guys!”
Point was that neither side was good.
And they’re trying to bring the FF back again. It is too late. Fox murdered that team. Then reanimated the corpses so they could fuck the dead bodies.
Feige has some real issues to work through.
how are they going to remake the fantastic 4 they were skull fucking a fetid corpse in the sequel, I don’t have any idea what they were doing in the reboot.
Fox kept wanting to force some knock off Doctor Doom into the movies, and give him powers, and force a closer tie to the family, and do an origin story, and…
When Venture Bros does a better Doom then you do in two attempts, you have failed.
If you haven’t already, check out YouTuber(s) Nerdrotic and Overlord DVD about the topic. They’re wonderfully brutal.
(and they’ll lead you to a lot of other who hate the idiocy even more than you…)
“their disdain for Luke Skywalker – a Caucasian male – being brought back in any valiant form.”
How the hell did we get to the point where this is not only an acceptable world view, but also the _preferred_ world view?
A superhero movie where the hero is a gender fluid, handicapped indigenous American could actually be a great movie. There could be great humor to be had when everyone ignores when xe saves the Earth from an asteroid, but the next week has xer bravery praised for subverting cultural norms. It really could be some fun.
Star Wars is not that movie however.
Bro. Luke, along with practically everyone in the star wars universe, has a prosthetic hand, so it’s not as unlikely as you can think.
Look, when prosthetic hands are that cheap and effective, people just aren’t as cautious about not-losing their hands.
Classic wokism. Scathing hatred for anything good and popular, so long as white men are involved. Totally not a bunch of bigots. Not at all!
These fucking morons never left their notions behind about how the world should work since they first got accepted into the “Smoke Pit” crowd in junior high. “The Man is keeping you down, Man!”
That is what is at the heart of all of this. People who felt marginalized at a pivotal state of development but never had the insight, or a mentor to show them, that basically everyone felt marginalized at that point. There is a natural human drive to find a villain behind very sorrow, and who better to be the villain of adolescence than the confident well adjusted kid that did well in school, and in the various high school hierarchies, sports, social group, dating. It is the same in all the places the ill adjusted congregate, they have to take any shot they can at those they see as more successful, never noticing that the image of unfair success is all in their head.
So you get the SJWs attacking the beloved symbols of the nerds, because those damn nerds with all their systemic privilege are keeping the poor oppressed whoever down. And the grievance mongers keep on stirring the pot.
Note also the totalitarian nature of the fight, predicated on the idea that those icky flyover country types must not be allowed to have the cultural things they like.
I enjoyed that when people pointed out that Rey is a classic Mary Sue, the left freaked out and said “NuUHHH! Luke is a Mary Sue!”.
Except for all the required training and failure Luke experienced before being ultimately successful.
Something something bullseyeing womprats.
“You can take the jew’s harp from mah cold dead hands and broken incisors!”
That explains what they did to Luke in ep. 8. Cunte.
I’m not sure I buy anything written in that paragraph.
Lord Voldemort? A SW/HP crossover?
Although that would probably rake in boucoup bux.
I’ll never watch that program, ever.
If for no other reason than when I occasionally get on YouTube(against my better judgment) my suggested videos are saturated with that bullshit.
Why, you ask? I have no idea other than that I purchased the original KOTOR game on my tablet a year or so ago. Regardless, no matter how many times I click that I’m not interested, don’t like the video, and not to recommend that channel, YT, the aggressively shitty fucktards that they are, say: “Got it, we’ll tune our recommendations….so…Baby Yoda/Mandalorian video?”
FUCK YOU!!! I swear, at this point I’d take a sledgehammer and make Baby Yoda look like the ending of a goddamn Gallagher show if he was standing in front of me.
*thousand yard stare*
Embrace the baby yodaaaaaa
Seriously though, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed The Mandalorian, even though I’m not much of a SW nerd. It’s worth a try if you like SW or westerns.
‘Embrace the baby yodaaaaaa’
Make a bloody compost heap of him, I would.
Nope. Tapped out of Star Wars after the Last Jedi. Glossing over what happened to the Republic, I have questions… cardboard characters I can deal with… barely hung together plots that require insane amounts of coincidence, I can roll with… dropping bombs in space, I’m starting to check out… using a hyperjump to go through another ship? That’s a game changing tech, all of the space battles should have been done with droid operated jump ships. All. Of. Them.
Which one was last jedi? I quit the trilogy after they remade a new hope except shitty and with a Mary sue.
I watched the first two of the last three because kids. I refused to watch the last one. I felt degraded by the first two.
Me too.
You made it one further than me.
But I wanna go to the
mallTosche Station with my friends! The one that came after the remade New Hope. The movie starts with a “bombing run”… in space… with bombs that drop, and go down. It doesn’t get better after that. Someone here a couple years back linked to an epic multi page takedown of the entire movie (as the SJW’s were saying that those who disliked it only hated it for the “STRANG WOMYN CHARCTERS!”).
That one just killed SW for me. I had liked rogue One, but I couldn’t make it through Solo when it was available on Netflix.
They could be magnetic bombs.
(the fieldstrength falloff of magnetism compared to gravity, plus the lack of atmospheric drag, would cause them to fall/pull towards the target differently though. So they still fucked that up, if in fact the bombs are magnets. Morans.)
I liked Solo because it didn’t have as much of the stupid rebel/empire baggage.
Disagree. Mandalorian is terrible unless you just want to see a legacy character do something “cool” (meaning mow down the most retarded stormtroopers in history in a grey hallway). That is all the show is. No characters, no real plot, no world building or exploration of the universe. Nothing but ‘member berries as Boba Fett does some neat gun tricks and Ahsoka Tano duel wields lightsabers.
Boba Fett and Ahsoka Tano account for 2.5 episodes, combined, out of 16.
Maybe there’s a bunch of fan service that’s going over my head because I’m not familiar with the EU, but I think you’re dead wrong about the characters, plot, and world building. I think this is the first time they’ve gotten it right since the original trilogy. It’s subtle, it’s slow, it’s an old western in a sci-fi universe.
“I’ll never watch that program, ever.”
That’s my take with anything Disney by design.
His name is Grogu. Get over it shitlord.
*ahem*
*aher*
That’s Sith Lord, thank you very much.
Off to work, have fun!
May the force be with you. lol *aher*
Good Morning All:
Where the F*** are my coworkers?
We have a new ‘DON’T ANY OF YOU WORK!?!?’
Stay safe from the roving gangs of lockdown enforcers mon frere.
We lockdown enforcers? The piece of shit in charge here calls it a ‘pause’. We’re kinda open but not open. He’s going to extend it for sure though.
No one has connected any dots yet that the masks and lockdowns do shit and that maybe the PCR testing are misleading us.
What a mess. A mess created by incompetent and arrogant buffoons.
My contempt for them runs long and deep.
IDK if the video of the Gatineausians getting beaten got the same kind of play up there that it did down here, but it made me lose hope that QC might be better just out of spite.
Oh yeh. It did get play. But that illegal thuggery is happening everywhere. It’s a disgrace.
Legault is a failure AND the cops are losers for enforcing Legault’s idiotic and futile decrees.
But I’d want to find out who the snitch was.
Hawt!
its all online right now.
no one is answering emails. its like a dark void.
what the hell are they doing?
Disney shareholders would have to flex their muscle if they stop making money (by churning out krep)…but as long as the China market fills the coffers, naught will change.
This. Same thing with the NBA.
Walt is turning over in his grave.
You mean his ashes are agitated?
Head-tank of liquid nitrogen.
Pedants really burn me up.
Crispy bacon.
Walt hated Commies and loved his buffed and waxed version of America but always remember, he loved money even more.
IMO, this is why you never put your name on a company that you plan on bequeathing. It just drags your name through the mud when your grandkids sell out to commies.
“The PIC is urging the public to refrain from any travel and participate in the inaugural activities from home,” the committee said.

Repo Man was a documentary from the future.
Plate? Or shrimp? Or plate of shrimp?
No reason. No point in lookin’ for one either. It’s all part of the lattice of coincidence that lays on top of everything.
Except it is now forbidden to send Bibles to El Salvador.
This is why I went ARM when I got into microcontrollers.
What originally set my bullshit meter off about the Trump phone call story (aside from it being from WaPo) is the idea that Trump would to strongarm imaginary votes into existence from the openly hostile Georgia R’s is not plausible. Asking a friendly state gov to do that seems more likely, but Georgia has been pretty resistant to any kind of investigation. Classic case of “we investigated ourselves and found nothing wrong.”
So the Republican state officials are complicit with a Democratic conspiracy to steal the election – not just complacent and careless, but complicit.
That’s some powerful groupthink ya’ll got going there.
From the call transcript, Trump says to Raffensperger:
So ya’ll are jumping up and down based on rumors. You see, Trump didn’t say “I have evidence of fraud” – he said “that’s what the rumor is” (that feeds my fucking ego). Talk about playing the part of Francis Urquhart to a tee.
You keep peddling your koolaid bro..
I don’t know why you keep on insisting that Republican = Trump, but it’s clearly not true.
Some, probably most, Republicans support Trump, but a significant minority(?) of nominal Republicans are completley willing to support Democrats over Trump, because Trump is not a Republican. He’s no more a Republican than Michael Bloomberg was when he ran under that party’s apparatus.
Perhaps you’ve heard of Evan McMullin? David French? Mitt Romney? The entire staff of The Bulwark?
No I quite agree that plenty of Republicans have no use for Trump, for good reasons and for bad. There aren’t many that support him for good reasons.
So why is it so unthinkable that machine Republicans (who I would suggest are more likely to be NeverTrumpers than “typical” Repubs) would be willing to cheat for the Ds?
Well, the Lincoln Project is a very transparent attempt at what you are describing. So, you’re saying there is a GA Republican machine that normally fixes elections in favor of Repubs, but this time decided to do so – for the presidency only – in coordination with Dems? Is that really what I’m supposed to believe, when even the fucking Orange Idiot is admitting this is based on RUMORS?
So, you’re saying there is a GA Republican machine that normally fixes elections in favor of Repubs, but this time decided to do so – for the presidency only – in coordination with Dems?
If that’s the accusation, then it’s a bit far fetched. I could see them dragging their feet and actively ignoring localized fraud (per usual) in response to Trump’s cajoling, but I have a hard time believing that they spun up a fraud conspiracy to harm Trump.
Again, you keep making the false equivalence between “against Trump” and “For Dems.”
If the (nominally R) machine in Georgia does in fact tinker with election results a bit — just a bit mind you — and if they generally prefer Rs to Ds, but haaaaate Trump, then why wouldn’t they acting in exactly the way that you are declaring is self-evidently impossible?
And why would they need to work in a coordinated way with Ds if their motivations are aligned anyway?
When you have a system that not only allows but encourages cheating, super high stakes, and people that spent 4 plus years making up lies about how evil that orange guy is, all because he interfered with the plot to enrich themselves selling off America and American’s future to China, you have to be in severe denial to believe this cabal of deep staters wouldn’t resort to cheating to take back power.
So far all I have heard is people denying there was any cheating while refusing to even look at any evidence, courts denying requests for redress on technicalities and not on the merits, and people that spent 4 years telling us that some Russian bots that cost all of some $100K steal the previous election, now telling us there was absolutely zero chance of cheating in a year that was marked by every weakness in our election system being exploited to maximize the deep state’s ability to get rid of the orange guy and to give the people a big “fuck you”.
That and people like you trying to convince others that we should just accept the results that came from the cheating and implying those of us that point out that a system rigged to allow cheating actually resulted in cheating makes those of us pointing that out the crazy ones.
JFC Alex – now the deep state isn’t just fed bureaucrats, but elected state officials that don’t go along with a populist messiah?
This is exactly the kind of shit that drove me over the wall with Obama and his fucking sycophantic supporters.
The deep state is BOTH the bureaucracy AND the corrupt elected cabal (practically every democrat and most republicans) that are all in league together in creating their aristocratic class. These people are all motivated by the belief that they know what is best, deserve power and to call the shots, care very little for the middle class (and the serfs should bend over and take the devastation they cause to them willingly instead of being ingrates), are OK selling us all out to China cause they expect to still remain in power as China’s mandarin class, and resent the fact that the people object to them. Trump has the support he has because he fought this cabal: not because he was a republican.
I would expect people on a libertarian site to at least understand that your average pol, democrat or republican, don’t really differ much in their belief and support for the nanny state and selling out to China by now, but I guess some people just don’t want to get it.
And yes, the entire never-Trump movement is about the aristocratic bureaucratic/political machine throwing a tantrum at Trump pissing in their punch bowl (on behalf of the people they want to just shut the fuck up and take the crap they are doing to them in the ass).
I think “Deep State” is a useful shorthand for a large group of embedded bureaucrats and elected officials who have aligned interests in maintining their position and growing their power. No smoke-filled rooms or elaboriate cell-structure conspiracy required – the aligned interests do the job.
Elections were supposed to be a check on this. However, since the election of a candidate universally opposed by this large group of embedded, etc., elections have been neutered as a way to get a candidate opposed by the large group, etc. into power. Refusal to clean up voter rolls, refusal to require photo ID, mass mail-in ballots are all things that no other civilzed country allows, but its how we run our elections, and its no coincidence that this delivers to the large group, etc. the power to control the outcomes by creating innumerable opportunities at multiple levels to change the outcome. And when challenged, they investigate themselves and declare “Nothing to see here.” Elections have joined the long list of institutions that are rotten and no longer provide trustworthy results.
We had a preview of the unity of the Deep Staters, regardless of nominal party, during the Tea Party days. Repub insiders hated them with a passion, and much preferred working with Dems than Repub Tea Party people. Repub insiders opposed the election of Repub Tea Party candidates, and refused to work with the ones who did get elected until they got coopted.
Listening to Trump cultists giving their personal interpretation of the Deep State is like listening to lay Catholics describe how the Trinity works.
It isn’t R’s vs. D’s. It’s insider vs. outsider. Establishment vs. Rebel.
There is a middle school version of republicans who feel that the Dems are basically on the right track, globalism is good, liberalizing is the right way of things, but they just want to go slower than the left, be more cautious, who fucking hate Trump more than Obama. And they are content to play second fiddle.
So, yeah, I can totally see this being slow-walked by these types of Republicans, who are thinking they can put Pandora back in her box at the end of the day. Or at least hold on long enough to get their pensions.
But, at the end of that day, what with Trump being beloved by the rank and file R’s, they wonder why the Party is changing under their feet. And they wonder why they got Trump as opposed to JEB!
Now, I have no idea if Trump should have won, or if Biden did indeed pull it off. And neither do you, despite your constant protestations. See, there are numerous bits of evidence that the left could have cheated; affidavits have been signed to the effect, kicking poll watchers out, lists of non-eligible voters who indeed voted, etc. Not to mention that the Dems did everything they could to muddy the waters in creating a fertile pool to cheat in; mail-in ballots, changing election rules at the last minute, mailing ballots to every address as opposed to people requesting them, ballot harvesting, etc. Not to mention the metaphorical sticking their fingers in their ears to anyone making noise about this and saying “nope, nothing to look at” while denying any means of accountability.
At this point, we do actually need to sit down, have a national conversation about this. And due to the way many are looking at it, most especially you, it is going to be very dangerous and ugly.
I ask myself; “What would be different if the Dems didn’t plan to commit material voter fraud?”
And I can’t think of anything.
Targetting Secretary of State elections to put hardcore leftists in charge of elections? Check. We have a no-kidding commie in charge of AZ elections, who is on record that Trump voters are the moral equivalent of Nazis. And I’m supposed to believe she did a rigorously fair job of overseeing this election?
Refusing to clean up voter rolls? Check.
Pushing mail-in balloting? Check.
Pushing ballot harvesting? Check.
Refusing to prosecute known instances of voter fraud? Check.
They did everything you would expect to lay the groundwork for fraud, and then didn’t commit any? Color me dubious.
“So the Republican state officials are complicit with a Democratic conspiracy to steal the election – not just complacent and careless, but complicit”
I don’t believe that’s what the OP is saying. If you listen to the entire call it’s not really the same as what WaPo is claiming.
Global warming is (probably) real. Human activity (probably) contributes to it. Yet nevertheless, there is a concerted effort to drum up its severity and effects by nearly all parties. It is a “conspiracy” in the simplest sense of the word, but it doesn’t require a vast coordinated effort it just requires coincidental agreement and self-interest. Tony loved to refute any claims counter to the CAGW narrative by saying “you think all scientists are in a conspiracy?” but that doesn’t refute anything except a strawman.
The Georgia GOP is a state-level party that is only affiliated with the national GOP, not beholden to it. They recently went through a rather tumultuous period and are, demographically, on the verge of losing control of the state government. It is entirely within their self-interest to try to staunch the bleeding and keep a hold on the state as long as possible. Trump does nothing for them in that regard. They don’t have to hate him, and they don’t have to be in “cahoots” with the Democrats, they just have to be willing to prioritize their own electoral success over his. They probably have, like most state and local parties, skeletons in their closet. It benefits them to keep independent scrutiny away from the state’s electoral system.
This isn’t even unique to Georgia. But one has no reason to expect homogeneity across the states, whether in their top-down or bottom-up actions. Elections are managed by people not automatons (even when there are computers involved). Trump is unlikely to prevail at this point, and he’s probably off base on some of his claims, and even when he’s not off base he’s still self-interested about it. But all of that doesn’t disprove the existence of a problem.
Agreed.
But what the blockheads don’t get is that Gaia can take care of herself.
Oh, they get that, but as Rahm Emanuel put it so eloquently back when, and the political anti Trump machine showed us with the 20220 election, you NEVER let something you can peddle as a crisis go to waste…
There is this. There is also the fact that warming is not inherently bad, that there are cycles on geologic timeframes we don’t fully understand, that our temperature record is not as complete as we’d like to think, that proxy measurements (like dissolved CO2 in deep ice) are not as reliable as we’d like to think, etc.
We have become knowledgeable fools; ignorant about ignorance but able to ramble off trivia, elevate the importance of minutiae, and pretend we are better than the wiser men on whose shoulders we stand.
And sooner or later, the current ice age will end.
‘Mornin’ Everybody!

So, anyway- a little while ago, some whimpering jackass was on my teevee, bemoaning the lack of an ironfisted federal response to the plague, and whining piteously that we need to inoculate millions of people in a matter of days, because otherwise humanity is DOOMED.
Like Joan of Arc, quivering in orgasmic ecstasy as the flames rise to lick her rock hard nipples.
Raise your hand if you wish America could be a one party military dictatorship.
Go away! Both hands batin’!
It’s almost like everyone’s walking into that with their mind already made-up.

The left’s current tactics of silencing “dissention” of any kind is necessary because they know after 4 years of their shitshowing and making crap up (meaning burning down the country in a tantrum to make sure everyone knows you will not tolerate anyone but a commie cunte in charge), and constantly failing, leaving you with no option but stealing an election, they worry that their guy is about to be dealt the same hand, and they are trying to minimize the damage.
Biden: We need you to vote again, in record numbers!
Who the hell knew there were fifty million legal residents of the state of Georgia?
New York City’s painfully slow vaccination rate.
7,999,999.
Did you get one?
No, I’m taking myself out of contention. Until I choose it.
Don’t worry, your Gov will make that choice for you soon enough and just in time to lock down again for the new strain and do it all over again in 6 months when the new vaccine is released. WEEEEEEE!!
Morning. Banjos.
How does Flu+Covid compare to normal flu numbers?
Duh, but covid is this year’s flu strain.
What part of unprecedented do you not understand? No disease has ever spread across the world like this!
Heh. That Ventures tune takes me back. I wouldn’t have been quite bum-level to see my hep cat parents and their friends shaking what they were making. Out of diapers but still pretty goggle-eyed about everything.
…and so well dressed with nice haircuts…Festus knows. You are a good son.
MORE VENTURES! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5jiaZUm_bM
Damn! That dude plays a subtle whammy bar.
Love the Ventures sound, thanks Banjos.
From the last thread re: pharmacists, my experience with the guild.
It is a guild. You need to be recommended by a current member to get in.
Before my current stint in the semiconductor industry, I was laid off from the cermaics industry and pharmacy seemed like a good job, since I was unlikely to be laid off, plus the average salary was like 60% higher than my most recent one. So I took and aced the PCAT and applied to a couple of pharmacy schools. I only applied to two that were convenient, because I had no doubt that I’d get in. My superpowers are test-taking and interviewing. Now among schools I was looking through for application info I noticed that almost all of them required a letter from a pharmacist. However, UT and SWOSU did not, so those were the ones I applied to and both brought me in for an interview. In a lot of ways, it reminded me of the interview with the army recruiter than many of us went through in high school after getting a perfect score on the ASVAB. However, they both let me know that they wouldn’t be letting me in becasue I didn’t have a letter of recommendation. Because you see, PharmaD slots are rare and precious, and if I were to get the degree and decide that the job wasn’t to my liking then that rare and precious slot would have been wasted on me as opposed to being given to someone who through their successful apprenticeship had demonstrated that they would be a good fit.
I was invited to reapplply for the next semester once I had that letter. They were sure that starting halfway through the year would be no challenge for me.
Fortunately, while this was going on, I got a job that was close enough to that salary that the four years of lost earnings made no financial sense, plus from there by jumping companies I’ve gotten above where I would have been had they let me in. Of course, my current job doesn’t off the fringe benefits of having pharmacy techs beholden to my good will, but that’s ok.
That is not how to humble brag brah.
Oh it was about pharm guild. Yeah they asshole.
I imagine that the opportunites for corrupt benefit are higher if you work at a hospital than independent/chain pharmacy, but a higher risk of cosequences if you’re caught.
They tried to run an opioid scam on me while I was in the hospital. I was on painkillers (the box where you push a button), barely conscious, and in a great deal of constant pain. When it came time to put a new bag in the box, the nurse and pharmacist claimed the previous nurse had taken the key home with her after the shift. When pressed about a spare or master key, they claimed that it couldn’t be legally used unless a police report was filed about the original key being missing. They didn’t want to do that though and said they would keep searching for it.
My wife told them she would be calling the hospital police and them here asap for the report. The pharmacist and nurse begged her to wait while they continued looking. They “miraculously” found the lost key within two minutes.
There were a lot of very bad off people in my ward, including many alone and elderly who had no one to advocate for them. It’s clear the scam was to run the clock out searching for the lost key and then pocket the bag of drugs while pretending it was administered to the patient. I don’t remember exactly who, but we reported it to an admin in the hospital and an investigation was launched. The admin was deeply pissed. I don’t know how it turned out, but those are some legitimate drug crime people that belong in jail.
…but, but dancing Tik-Tok nurses are HEROES!
Yeah, but you don’t get any cool new drugs now, do you, not Adahn?
True, but they were never really my preferred vice. Plus, have there really been any good new drugs invented since MDMA?
…well, no…
I wouldn’t put it past them : hums “The Kids Are Alright” :
I hear 2cb is lovely.
New lockdown in England.

Lockdowns did nothing to stop the spread of the original China-flu. Now there is a more contagious, less lethal version, so we have to lockdown again just because.

Trump Call Actually Reveals A President Deep Into Detail, With Establishment Republicans Dismissive, Unwilling, And Rejecting Transparency
Because it’s not Republicans vs Democrats, it is populists vs the establishment.
This. It’s taken me longer to realize this than I care to admit. I think the R’s are very close to fracturing and the D’s have had a rift between the far left and the neoliberals for at least a decade. The question to me is, who prevails in the Republican party? The populists or the business-as-usual crowd?
Hear that rumbling on the horizon? It’s the Libertarian Moment, fast approaching!
The choice between populist and establishment is just about as appealing as the choice between R and D.
We need to get the National Guard to go house to house and drag people out into the street to be vaccinated; forcibly, if necessary.
Alan Derpshowitz agrees.
Trump’s Georgia rally brings to mind old photos from WWII where the torpedoed aircraft carrier has such a pronounced list that they order every sailor aboard to stand on the high side of the deck. It’s done like dinner, Folks. The only rational path forward is to sink the burning hulk lest it fall into enemy hands. Silly me! That already happened.
Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said on Monday that Scotland would enter a month-long lockdown beginning at midnight, as a highly infectious COVID-19 variant continues to spread rapidly throughout the United Kingdom.
I guess we forgot about all the other corona/rhino-viruses and how they get less harmful when they get more transmissible. (Also,
house-arrest“lockdowns” don’t work.)That’s a general rule, not an absolute truth. And lockdowns, while bad for other reasons, are incredibly good at stopping viral spread. Just ask Wuhan, where they have no current restrictions on gatherings, etc., but had incredibly draconian lockdown rules initially.
The problem now is that the time for locking down has passed.
CDC reports record low positive flu tests (down 99.5%).
Ain’t that the damnedest thing? Flu A and B ceased to exist.
Covid came by and said to the Flu, Hold my Beer,
If constitutional rights, like the right to leave your fucking house, can be removed whenever there is an emergency, they don’t exist. This entire episode has been a masterclass of making a crisis out of nothing. Let the media lead the charge, get the Karens on your side and then totalitarian away.
Uffda. Things are getting bad when a bar that opened its doors in defiance of the govt is vandalized and accused of being fascists and nazis.
I’m not sure there could be a more damning indictment of our local educational system. Do these people really not understand the meaning of the word fascist?
Fascist = People we disagree with
/prog
No they do not. They do know that their leaders have said it so it must be what they should say.
No, they fucking don’t. It’s pathetic and sad and I’m rapidly becoming a bitter curmudgeon because of the prevalence of mal-educated morons.
You’re assuming it wasn’t perpetrated by kingsmen.
Possible but the Kingsmen have the power of the gun to actually just shut it down with force and acceptance by majority of the citizens in the name of HEALTH! and SCIENCE!
Aren’t these the same people that encouraged the “peaceful protests” that left half of your city burned down? They had no problem with those people spreading the Kung Flu…
Seems to fit right in with the article about the DC mayor that called the national guard for what will be peaceful protesters but refused calls for the guard to stop BLM/Antifa from buring down her city…
To communists, everyone who opposes them is a fascist. This is the meaning of fascism in the common langauge of the people who do this.
This is what it’s about. Understand that Communists and Fascists, depite their totalitarian similarities, hate each other with a white hot passion. Somehow, the Communists mostly won in the 20th century, but continue this fight and will do so forever. It’s not about left vs. right, it’s about a power struggle between two branches of totalitarianism.
A “fascist” is someone that disagrees with me politically. Duh…
I’d put better than even odds it’s a false flag. The left isn’t the only group of people that can do something like that to drum up sympathy.
RE: intractable labels/adhesives from the previous thread
I’ve previously brought up Goo Gone and Goof Off. I forget now which one is Xylene/Toluene and which one is Limonene, but obviously it’s the xylene one that actually works. It also melts most plastics.
New Hotness: adjustable heatgun. Set to ~just-under-boiling, blast for a few secs, softens most otherwise stubborn labels, pull right off without residue. 99% of the time. Some labels will still leave a line at the point of last grasp. Fuckers. More heat and a guitar pick.
Much easier than my old method of breathing on labels while pulling.
I’ve also noticed the trend of better, less sticky labels, but I guess I still buy a lot of cheap shit.
Another thing that only past generations will know about: actually memorizing anything.
Directions, phone numbers, recipes… at one time all of those were stored locally in wetware.
I don’t know that the game Trivial Pursuit could be created today.
It can be made but it would have to be all pop culture and color revolution questions and nothing else of significance or fact.
In 2020 who came out and identified as a man
In 2016 what Nazi became president
Trivial Pursuit wasn’t all pop culture before? “Trivial”? I don’t think I ever really played, maybe looked at a few cards, don’t recall any questions. I’ll shut up now.
Heh. I need to look up my own phone# on my phone. Worthless and weak.
My kid got the new Trivial Pursuit for Christmas. It is mostly multiple choice now.
Do these people really not understand the meaning of the word fascist?
Humpty Dumpty sez “Howdy”.
Speaking of Minnesoda Lockdown Protests…..
We are doing it all wrong.
So we have vandals spray painting bars that open in defiance of the lockdown and vigilante Karens who threaten to shoot non mask wearers.
Tick tock, tick tock…its like a live episode of 24
The sad thing is I bet these are volunteers helping the tyrannical state do its thing…
Shooting them will save them from the “long hauler” Covid issues, it’s a blessing really.
A little ray of sunshine is that the manager of the LA Fitness seems like a good guy. Willing to put his life on the line to protect his customers and also seems to know his way around a firearm.
Seriously, why isn’t this guy being lauded in the press and being called a hero?
Because he should have retreated! The man put the gun back in his pocket and was no longer a threat! /would be my guess as to why he is #notahero
It’s so much more simple than that. Wrong thinkers don’t get to be heroes.
True. He didn’t save lives he damned them! The true hero was the vidilante that was trying to get everyone to wear masks!
Is that a neologism of dilettante and vigilante?
Vidilante – eh…mash up of covid and vigilante
Christ, we turned our country upside down for this virus and it didnt even kill this fossil.

He can’t die yet! There is just one more wife to betray to make it to the devil’s dozen!
Plus, the only thing that’s going to heal this country is another Larry King celebrity roast.
*Glibert Gottfried performs “The Aristocrats”*
I’ve previously brought up Goo Gone and Goof Off.
I tried one of those, I’m not sure which. Goo Gone. maybe. It smelled like kerosene to me.
It didn’t even work particularly well.
Lighter fluid works on many adhesives. Most people don’t have lighter fluid. I do.
Are you saying that Goo Gone is naptha answer?
*polite applause*
Naptha is/was also the preferred solvent to take rosin off of violins without damaging the varnish.
The things that I learn on Glibs are sometimes not ones that make me want to commit myself.
I resort to charcoal lighter fluid (pretty sure it’s also naptha, though doesn’t label as such like zippo fuel) now when heat alone isn’t sufficient.
Goof Off = Xylene + Toluene
Goo Gone = Limonene
or just read the back, it’s on there. The other clue is the metal tin for the good one.
So we have vandals spray painting bars that open in defiance of the lockdown and vigilante Karens who threaten to shoot non mask wearers.
We’re all in this together!
OR ELSE.
How dare you NOT be in this with the rest of us!
It’s the same mentality that causes Islamic nutters to cut people’s heads off – your refusal to endorse my fantasy threatens my own belief.
We’re in quasi lockdown this time because “OMFG THE HOSPITALS WILL KABOOM AND POOF!’.
At the moment, in totality, Quebec hospitals are at 71% capacity. There will be NO OVERWHELMING of the system.
Here’s the kicker. Hospitals here are ALWAYS at or over capacity. Particularly the smaller ones and there are always the same usual hospitals who are overwhelmed: Hotel-Dieu, Jean-Talon, Fleury, Santa Cabrini, Lakeshore….these hospitals are always over capacity and the government has the nerve to say ‘SEEEEEEE?! WE HAVE TO SHUT DOWN EVEN THOUGH 900 NURSES QUIT UNDER OUR WATCH!!!!’ Quebec is one of the worst managed places. And what makes me sick is the doctors who go on the radio ty to gloss this over and never admit it’s a mess.
But we gotta pay the price because everyone in charge is an asshole.
And right now the biggest assholes are Francois Legault, “Dr.” Horacio Arruda, medical bureaucrats and infectious disease doctors who scream ‘LOCKDOWN!’
Of course, the Lizard King Liar asshole of them all is one “Dr.” Anthony Fauci.
Note: Doctor in quotes because these people aren’t doctors. They’re political operatives. I wouldn’t let them treat a wart.
Anyway, this is in French but you’ll get this gist:

Tabernac!
Plus Une!
Monkey see, monkey do. There is no leader save maybe 2 or 3, in the world that isn’t salivating over the increased and frankly Chinese Model of governmental controls they can invoke with this.
It will continue until 7+ billion people are subjugated or free themselves.
What is sad is, the people who didn’t want to be subjugated used to have an escape hatch, called America. Equally sad is that plenty of people never felt the need for that escape hatch.
Saddest: Americans who don’t want to be subjugated have no escape hatch.
Always left unreported – Just what is the target occupancy rate for hospitals? Are hospitals in the habit of keeping a majority of their beds empty and not bringing in revenue?
RC Dean signal lit! Seriously, how big of a problem is occupancy, where is the balance point between keeping beds open for emergencies and keeping enough beds full to keep the facility in the black?
I thought Canada’s single-payer health care solved this problem.
I am always wary when the IRS sends me money I did not file paperwork for.
Just keep it until you file your taxes and it is clear it is yours then.
If you don’t get the taxbreak for some strange reason, you get to send it back (or get $600 less of a refund).
For all you fans of brutalist architecture, be happy. Heritage commissions in Minneapolis are now out to stop developers to tear down these wonders.
Story includes a picture of this wonderful building that the statists want to preserve (but not so badly that they are willing to pony up their own money to buy it).
If you read between the lines of this revelation by the CCP, you can tell that what they are saying is that they have someone they have compromised back in charge and it is business as usual (meaning the agenda of making the rest of the world China’s vasal states) is back on track.
And after denigrating those that pointed out the Kung Flu was a engineered one, it sure seems they are now for some reason (guess what?) coming to and admitting it…
China keeps winning now that the deep state thinks they are back in business…..
“China calls Biden administration ‘a new window of hope’ for US relations”
When the Chinese see Biden they laugh. They know they have a useful idiot.
They are doing that anyway, you cucked cunte.
“I’m grateful for what the president accomplished over the past four years, which is why I campaigned vigorously for his reelection. But objecting to certified electoral votes won’t give him a second term—it will only embolden those Democrats who want to erode further our system of constitutional government,” Cotton warned.
Wouldn’t want Dems to feel like they have a
manpeoplewhomenstruatedate*.First, Congress would take away the power to choose the president from the people, which would essentially end presidential elections and place that power in the hands of whichever party controls Congress. Second, Congress would imperil the Electoral College, which gives small states like Arkansas a voice in presidential elections. Democrats could achieve their longstanding goal of eliminating the Electoral College in effect by refusing to count electoral votes in the future for a Republican president-elect. Third, Congress would take another big step toward federalizing election law, another longstanding Democratic priority that Republicans have consistently opposed.
Uh…the States choose the president of the States. The presidential election in each state is essentially a poll. Ergo, the Electoral College. But you know that.
*menstruate is also a triggering word. I wonder what we will do with it.
Bring out your dead!
Los Angeles County has been fighting a brutal battle against Covid-19 for weeks now.
New infections have soared with about one in five residents who get tested for Covid-19 receiving positive results.
In a little more than a month, the county doubled its number of infections, climbing from about 400,000 cases on November 30 to more than 800,000 cases on January 2, health officials said Monday.
The case deluge has translated to a surge of Covid-19 patients, overwhelming hospitals and plunging intensive care unit capacity across the region to zero. There are now more than 7,600 people hospitalized with Covid-19 in in the county, 21% of whom are in the ICU, officials said
With no hospital beds available, ambulance crews in the county were given guidance not to transport patients with little chance of survival. And the patients who are transported often have to wait hours before a bed is available.
——-
“Effective immediately, due to the severe impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on EMS and 9-1-1 Receiving Hospitals, adult patients (18 years of age or older) in blunt traumatic and nontraumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) shall not be transported [if]return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) is not achieved in the field,” the agency said in a memo issued to ambulance workers last week.
If there are no signs of breathing or a pulse, EMS will continue to perform resuscitation for at least 20 minutes, the memo said. If the patient is stabilized after the period of resuscitation, they would then be taken to a hospital. If the patient is declared dead at the scene or no pulse can be restored, paramedics will no longer transport the body to the hospital.
Dead bodies should be wrapped in biodegradable material and left at the curb for the regular weekly organic waste pick-up.
California has both the strictest lockdown rules and the worst current outbreak (and the worst vaccine distribution of the top 5 most populous states). For… some reason nobody’s questioning that.
Because to question will get you the woodshed.
I’m sorry. I’ll pray to Cuomo as penance.
Not only that but they put those restrictions in over 4 weeks ago.. so yeah they don’t work.
Kulaks and Republicans comrade! They are always thwarting our good efforts.
Exactly the same logic as strict gun control in the worst crime-ridden cities.
The worst thing that could happen for the gun controllers is for crime to go away.
The worst thing that could happen for the public health fascists is for the pandemic to go away.
Perverse incentives are perverse.
But I am not dead yet!
You will be soon. You’re very ill.
I feel so dirty that I’m rooting for Perdue and Loffler to win today. But divided government is our only chance.
Don’t feel dirty, BE dirty! j/k I don’t like the elephants but I really loathe what the donkeys have become. Stalemate is the best outcome we could hope for.
I don’t think either is better for us. Both want to control our lives (just in different ways). Neither care much about the second amendment, as much as the Rs pay lip service to it. Both spend with reckless abandon (though the Rs like to pretend they’re for fiscal restraint whenever they aren’t in charge).
But at least with a divided government they can disagree on which ways they want to control our lives, so it helps a little.
No argument here.
I don’t think either is better for us. Both want to control our lives (just in different ways).
Strongly disagreed. They both are unacceptable from a doctrinaire libertarian point of view, but it seems downright naive to say that they’re both equally bad. Maybe back in the 90s, yes. But today? Even setting aside the power imbalance in favor of the left, the GOP’s current platform sucks 10x less than the Democrat platform. Even taking into account the everpresent cowardice that defines GOP elected officials, the Democrats are responsible for almost all of the cultural momentum away from liberty.
“Neither of them is good enough for me to support” is a legitimate position. “They both suck equally, just in different ways” is mindboggling.
Can’t you think of Mitt Romney? If the Dems take the Senate, he will be able to pretend to be principled but “Gosh darn it we just don’t have the power to oppose the Dems”.
I think that’s how a lot of Dems feel about Manchin.
Most Certainly. Though at least Manchin can argue that he has to keep his seat safe because he’s from a fairly red state.
I go back and forth between anger and accelerationism. If we are going to do this, let’s get it over with already. To be clear, I do not want this, but it seems like an inevitability to me some days.
The argument for delay is that you can build your bunker.
Well if I wait for the collapse, I can raid the Guard armory for claymores and M2HBs.
I’ve worked in Guard armories. Depending on the type of unit you may well find .50 cals and MK19s, even mortars. Highly doubtful that you’ll find any ammo for them or anything that goes “boom” like a claymore.
loeffler can literally suck a dick after selling off her shares after the covid meetings in march.
The spending bill proved just what a bulwark a Repub-controlled Senate is against the Dems.
I’m fairly indifferent at this point to who wins the runoff. I guess I’d prefer the Repubs do, there is a small marginal chance that a few of the worst things to come out of the Dem House would be stopped in the Senate. For now.
But in the long run? The institutions are still rotten, the trajectory is largely unchanged. Barring, of course, some unforeseeable event. So maybe string out hoping for a deus ex machina?
In the long run, we’re all dead. Doesn’t mean we have to cave to that inevitability and hasten its arrival.
I’m still trying to get my grandmother (two weeks away from her 93rd birthday) vaccinated. Palm Beach County’s current idea is to… have everyone e-mail them and they’ll get contacted for an appointment. I won’t be holding my breath.
California has both the strictest lockdown rules and the worst current outbreak (and the worst vaccine distribution of the top 5 most populous states). For… some reason nobody’s questioning that.
It would be worser! The death rate would skyrocket! Quite possibly as high as 0.3%.
Do you want that?
Also I recently pointed out they have one lowest numbers hospital beds per 1 million people with just 1.1. So not only are they handling it poorly the bureaucracy left them ill-prepared to treat it.
Woke advertising!
Repo Man was a documentary from the future.
That explains so much.
I want a ’64 Malibu wagon.
To P Brooks this and continue what I was talking above, I don’t get (I mean, I do get, but still) why Ron DeSantis is the boogeyman for everything. Florida’s actually doing better than California and New York for both cases and deaths, which is significant especially given how old our population is here, and we’ve done it without state-mandated lockdowns. Most of us (including myself!) have done it voluntarily, which is the case in most places. But for some reason Cuomo’s getting a fucking Emmy, California’s not getting any criticism, and Florida is the worst.
The only media I really consume right now is Reason, which has gotten better. Really, it has.
Well they did off-load that South Asian harridan so that can’t hurt TOS.
Dalmia makes where she is worse and where she isn’t better, it is known.
The only question is where is she going to turn up? Slate, Daily Beast, Salon?
Slate does need some more “I used to be Libertarian but…”
Or she could go to Niskansen and then write a bunch of articles about how she is a true libertarian and that the Alt-Right have taken over Reason.
Can Starbucks coffee really get any worse?
Still would love to know what the inside story was on her termination.
Hopefully it involved a slap fight with Welch.
She’s a mendacious and histrionic bitch that the audience hates doesn’t cover it? If she’s as unfair and biased in her real life as she is in her articles she’s not too much fun to work with either.
Well, yeah, but the proximate incident/chain of events that lead to her getting shitcanned is what GL was alluding to.
Yeah, they put up with her for years until just now. And the Twitter fit she threw shows it wasn’t a mutually agreed departure.
The fact that OMB lost is allowing the extreme level of TDS to subside as well.
Because Ron is doing Evil (not locking down). This is why Cuomo gets lauded. It is about enforcing and creating the illusion that Dems good, GOP bad. it really isn’t anything more than this. Notice that the GOP governors who also locked down don’t get half the praise from the Media that Cuomo, Newsome and Whitmer get.
To paraphrase a Russian: “Evil is done by your political enemies, and Good by those who think like you; This is the meaning of propoganda”
On today’s show we will learn the word…propaganda.
I like agitprop, it’s more artsy.
Ron’s sin was to make these cuntes look like the fucking evil and stupid cuntes they are. Just like orange man’s sin was to do the same to them after somehow winning an election they had thought was rigged completely in favor of the deep state’s candidate. And the fact that neither Ron nor Don rolls over to show their bellies in submission to these assholes that think they are the arbiters of power is why all these “good people” hate them so much…
It’s not even “Dems god, GOP bad”. These people want to rule. DeSantis is a shitbird (aka a politician) but he’s not building the empire properly. They don’t want to rule a loose confederation of independent states with strictly defined powers and expansive definitions of the rights of the people. They want to rule a unitary centralized state with plenary powers. The same way a GS-15 builds his fief even though he can coast to retirement, they want to build up a more powerful government and adjacent establishment. Their cult believes the government is what matters; that anything outside of government is irrelevant or destructive; and that the government provides prestige and legitimacy. COVID is the excuse to expand, and anyone who doesn’t use it properly is a fool.
The treatment of DeSantis and Noem in contrast to Cuomo really puts the entire media conglomerate into perspective.
Cuomo, in all honesty, ought to be strung up in the street for what he did back in the Spring. There’s no real debate to be had over his malfeasance. DeSantis has had much better results by putting priority on protecting the nursing homes and not destroying the local economies.
The only differentiating factor here is party affiliation.
Cuomo should be strung up in the street for what he’s doing NOW with the vaccine rollout.
This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Let’s not bicker and argue about who killed who.
I saw that all of NYC had managed to administer a few more vaccines in two days than my hospital, all by itself, in two days.
And the universal cry is that its due to a failure of Strong National Leadership.
Well, when you threaten million dollar fines for vaccinating the “wrong” people, and threaten to cut off the supply of new vaccine if any were to be allowed to expire, the incnetives are to vaccinate as few people as possible, ording the bare minimum.
Either NYC leaderhsip failed and are unfit to be in their positions, or they need Strong national Leadership to execute their objectives, and are thusly are unfit to be in a position of leadership.
DeSantis-R
There it is.
I feel so dirty that I’m rooting for Perdue and Loffler to win today.
A stick in their spokes is all we can hope for, at this point.
Yep, that and the fact that going off the rails into a quasi socialist hell during a pandemic that gives them cover for all kinds of authoritarian shit doesn’t appeal to me at all.
What do all these places have in common?
Interesting that Bremerton is on there. Is the Navy scaling back there? It actually a very nice area, and a good ways away from the madness that is SEATAC.
They all begin with consonants?
They’re all near large bodies of water?
This census is going to be interesting. The commie cough hysteria only accelerated the already ongoing trend of people fleeing NY, CA etc.
Yes, but the Census counts where you lived on April 1. So NY, NJ, CA will have higher than real counts, because most of the exodus happened After the census counts.
Yep, but they wont be moving back in the next 10 years.
True. But people fleeing progressive hellholes has been going on for quite a while (e.g. Colorado seems to be mostly Californian refugees at this point). I still don’t get people that bring along the idiotic policy preferences that made the place they left into shitsburg.
They drag that baggage with them and when they taste freedom it scares them. My kid can ride a bike without a helmet!? There ought to be a law!
They are not self sufficient persons so when they move it hits them that they are incapable of taking care of themselves and once again demand government to do so.
I’m seeing this may eventually come to pass.
But COVID ain’t it.
I still don’t get people that bring along the idiotic policy preferences that made the place they left into shitsburg.
A disconnect of cause and effect. “Those bad consequences weren’t because we voted in progressive dictators. They were because of the damned capitalists!”
Anything to avoid the cognitive dissonance, I suppose.
Because the tie isn’t there. Very few leaving see a link between why they have to leave and the politics. To them they are unrelated. For example, someone who leaves CA, because it is expensive, will not see that that is because of deliberate zoning and planning policies championed in CA. It is because everyone knows that CA is expensive. Perhaps the only thing they will notice is that income taxes are much lower elsewhere.
In other words: Americans (probably people in general, but it tends to strike wealthy nations harder) are all in on Magic Hat Economics. They Economy is exogenous and given, and we operate within it and what we do does not affect it. We _can_ have our cake and eat it. We _can_ kill the goose, because it doesn’t affect the laying of the golden eggs. Americans take for granted the standard of living we have, and then think “We can achieve X thing by government” and it won’t change anything else.
They want the Low taxes of the GOP and the lack of responsibility of the Welfare State.
And that is why we are in this situation
Ron DeSantis is the boogeyman for everything. Florida’s actually doing better than California and New York for both cases and deaths, which is significant especially given how old our population is here, and we’ve done it without state-mandated lockdowns.
But according to the model, Florida should be hip deep in dead bodies.
Whatever you do, do not look at actual observational evidence from the real world. That would only confuse you.
FTA:
That’s postmodernism for you. I think the only thing postmoderns can lay claim to is Brutalism.
As a very young Frankelson learned when he took apart his dad’s lawn mower, taking things apart is easy, putting them back together is hard.
There is a reason to take things apart — to see how they went together in the first place and why they work. Putting it back together is an accomplishment. Building your own is a feat.
Just so.
Allegedly the house Trump may be buying once he’s out of the White House
https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/1341-S-Ocean-Blvd_Palm-Beach_FL_33480_M66486-17543
I would love that house. And it’s super close to where my sister and my nieces live.
I would also love that house, especially the courtyard arcade.
Just wait till Trump gets finished gilding it up to its attic, though. I don’t want to see it after that. /eyebleach
Maybe it’s because I am poor, but I wouldn’t want something that large to maintain.
Maybe it’s because I am lazy and my wants are simple, but I wouldn’t want something that large to maintain, either.
Even if I won the lottery, I wouldn’t want something that big to maintain because even though you’d hire all those people, you’d still have some work involved to oversee the thing.
I would like a swimming pool, but my swimming pool fetish is well known around here.
What I need is a craft room/office. I have one now but it’s not optimal for my purposes.
Maybe it’s because I am lazy and my wants are simple, but I wouldn’t want something that large to maintain, either.
Same here. When Mrs. Dean and I talk about what we will do when we win the lottery, we run out of things to spend money on surprisingly quickly. Drop a “mere” $10mm in our bank account, and there would likely be some left when we both die decades from now.
Give my mom and siblings some money.
1. A house, modest (I consider what I have already to be modest)
2. 2 new cars
3. A truck (maybe)
4. A fifth-wheel trailer (maybe)
5. A housekeeper
6. A swimming pool, with service
7. All the cross stitch patterns, music, and ebooks my hard drive will hold.
8. I could be active in the arts scene here in KC and go to events where I can wear formal and cocktail clothing.
9. The clothes to attend the above events.
10. Travel.
And…that’s it? I think? Not counting the giving of money, that’s what, a million bucks?
I’m also including lifetime income. Eyeball number for us for $10K a month for life, inflation protected annuity, is probably around $4- 5mm.
I already have a house with a room we can’t figure out anything productive to do with it. Quadrupling down on that would mean even more unused rooms.
The beachfront and swimming pool are nice on that mansion are nice, though.
Indeed. Smaller and on the opposite (and IMO much better) side of the State.
http://www.seale-family.com/101-gilchrist-avenue.html
Smart home (*hisses*). Nope.
^^^THIS^^^
I don’t need the fucking assholes that roll this shit out spying on me…
Agreed, I want nothing to do with that stuff. I wouldn’t be keeping any of the interior. If I had that kind of money, I would want a large hearth/Tudor kitchen to play in, and a large workshop with a forge.
Architecturally, the Olde Florida style, like the original Boca Grande Lighthouse, is more my speed.
https://images.app.goo.gl/XXtPj8SL5HEMKNRQ9
Also it has an elevator, which will come in handy when I am eventually no longer able to do stairs.
The only question is where is she going to turn up? Slate, Daily Beast, Salon?
The Week. Seriously.
I was thinking OnlyFans.
Baseball birthdays today: Top 6 in WAR includes 5 players born in the 19th century, led by SS Bill Dahlen and P Bob Caruthers. At #4 is Charlie Hough who finished his career at 216-216, 2 less wins than Caruthers but 117 more losses. Hough was 46 in his last season in 1994. The top player who played in the 21st century is Jeff Fassero, at #7. I was a fan of his for some reason. He was on my fantasy team on more than one occasion.
Also born today is my daughter. She is currently at 0 WAR, 3.4 WAR greater than Ruben Quevedo.
Its been 5 years. It is going way too fast.
Happy BD to the robclette!
I was talking to a friend last night about Dr. Horrible’s Singalong Blog, and I said the big problem I had with it was Dr. Horrible was a straight-up Incel. She didn’t have a rebuttal, other than Joss Whedon, noted feminist, made the show. I didn’t have the energy to discuss Whedon’s total lack of feminist cred, other than his verbal diarrhea virtue signaling. He couldn’t even respect his own damn wife, for fuck’s sake.
Best Whedon moment was him whining about how all his heroes end up being libertarians.
You’re correct.
WRT Doc H (not Wheedon) at what point does “is only interested in getting laid by one particular person” become equivalent to “can’t get laid?” And is he banging groupies at the end when he’s a celebrity?
Also “It’s a Brand New Day” is a great song.
All the birds are singing
That you’re gonna DIE
I’m often stunned by the celebrity men that are lauded as feminist or good for women. Like Wherein, or Bill Clinton or Obama. FFS women in Obama’s admin resorted to amplifying in order to get heard. Yeah, how great for women. Plus, his own autobiography talks about him refusing to help with childcare.

Asked whether she would consider challenging Sen. Schumer, Ocasio-Cortez avoided a direct answer. “I’m a no bullshit kind of person. I’m not playing coy or anything like that,” she told John Bresnahan. She did, however, clarify that she was keeping her options on the table.
“I’m still very much in a place where I’m trying to decide what is the most effective thing I can do to help our Congress, our [political] process, and our country actually address the issues of climate change, health care, wage inequality, etc.,” she told the outlet.
Pressed as to whether she believed Schumer was doing a good job, Ocasio-Cortez again demurred, turning the focus on President Trump and the current Senate Majority Leader. “It’s a hard thing to say, too. We’ve had to deal with a fascist president and Mitch McConnell,” she said.
Speaking of misusing “fascist”…
HA! Moobs seems pretty firmly entrenched. She might have better luck going for Gillibrand’s seat.
I’m too lazy to read the article(s) about England and the impending plague-induced collapse of the NHS.
I wonder how many of the people pushing the “OMG whar muh ironfisted central control?” narrative in this country are capable of seeing any sort of cautionary tale in the less than stellar outcomes in the socialized medicine Eurozone.
Zero, they’ll blame it in Brexit.
The thing I like best about the Mandalorian is it had that same feel as the original trilogy. It made me feel like I was 12 year old TOK again. I think it’s because Favreau is around my age and he had the same experience with the original trilogy. He gets it because it was part of his youth. While I am a white male, I do have some obvious physical differences from most people, but I never felt excluded by the Star Wars movies. If anything, that was my first real experience with “diversity” because there were so many different creatures in those movies.
I think Biden is scaling back the inauguration because he’s afraid it would look like his campaign events, with him drawing a dozen people who were all reporters and a parallel Trump rally drawing thousands.
I’m still tracking the Indiana COVID numbers, and I still have the feeling this virus is just running its natural course despite anything we are doing to stop it.
I kinda like the spaghetti western feel of the Mandalorian.
At this point it is hubris to think that we can ‘defeat’ the virus. The only measure that would’ve made a difference is containment and, well, we know how that went.
I think Biden is scaling back the inauguration because he’s afraid it would look like his campaign events
Bingo.
Say what you will about Biden, but he seems to be the only Dem who understands that constantly harping on the need for lockdowns and then having big events is upsetting to the little people. He has been pretty committed to maintaining that feeling, either out of genuine concern or astute political calculation. The fact that he won’t have an inauguration parade, etc. is foreboding for what plans he has in the first few days in office.
Now that Brexit is complete, and the UK is a preferred trading partner, WHY THE FUCK IS THERE A TARRIFF ON SCOTCH?
The bourbon industry narrows its gaze at you.
Even more so! Why isn’t Trump punishing Cocaine Mitch by flooding the US market with delicious affordable scotch?
Wouldn’t that require such a thing to exist in the first place?
Good morning, Banjos!
And a happy new year, too.
I gotta be honest, I mostly read the headlines this morning and dove straight into your excellent musical selection.
Here’s one back at you!
Ahhh, now that’s better!
Enjoy your day!
Covid deaths, a simple comparison
Make of it whatever you will.
“Deaths from” and I’m out already. We’ll never know any real numbers. It’s all gibberish and has been from the start.
^^^THIS^^^
Garbage in, garbage out. And believe me, the data on this shit is not just suspect, but down right garabage.
Interesting. Perhaps there is an enterprising grad student that could do some regression analysis and try to tease out the actual causal link between freaking out and a spike in cases/deaths.
Who am I kidding? Government grants don’t go to projects that don’t validate the government. Silly rabbit.
It has been done. Goverenment response has had approximately zero effect. Rich, fat, and old countries have higher death rates.
I don’t think you can compare countries fairly, because the difference in reporting is vast.
Japan is very old (comparatively) and fairly rich, though not very fat, yet their death rate is an order of magnitude below that of most countries in the West.
I just added in some states of interest too, kind of in response to The Other Kevin above.
I think we’re at the point where the only stat that isn’t GIGO is the “excess death” tally. Right now if you die in a hospital, there’s a real good chance you wind up with a positive COVID test (and therefore become a COVID death) regardless of what it is you actually died from.
And even that has issues in places like California, Arizona and Texas: IE, how many deaths that would normally wind up on Mexico’s (or Guatemala, Honduras, etc.) scoreboard have wound up on the scoreboard for these states.
That’s not to say those people shouldn’t come here for medical care, they absolutely should and if we wound up saving a bunch of lives because of it, that makes me very happy. But it would obviously complicate any statistical analysis of “excess deaths.”
Anyway, from what I’ve seen, we experienced a significant spike in excess deaths bake in April, May and June but otherwise right now are otherwise ‘normal’ (though you could argue the current baseline should be lower since so many of the vulnerable died earlier in 2020). Of course then there’s also a significant number of excess deaths in the 25-40 range which cannot be attributed directly to COVID.
True, but as you refer to in the last part, how many of the excess deaths are due to Covid and how many are due to our response to Covid? That is the hard part to tease out, and you know covid is going to get all the blame.
That’s not to say those people shouldn’t come here for medical care, they absolutely should
Very few of them pay a dime for the treatment they get in the states. Some defraud Medicaid, most of the rest just leave losses at the hospitals that treat them.
They’re sick and they need care and ain’t gonna get it in Mexico. I’d do the same thing were I in their position.
The ability of governments to squander their countries’ natural ability to produce and grow is truly breathtaking. Mexico should be one of the richest countries on the planet.
When you have a few concerned with hoarding the wealth/power instead of actually having a system that protects & encourages all to grow wealth, you end up with this (see any kind of totalitarian system from communism to fascism). The US is on its way to removing this key component of our system that allowed it to prosper and grow the way it did. It will kill this country. And with us being sold out to China, we will end up in a world where people again fight over spoils because creating new wealth is nigh impossible (most of China’s supposed wealth was created because of trade with the US and stealing IP and creating cheap knockoffs instead of creating anything new other than their idea of a social score which all our neo-fascist government are pining to implement), it will kill the modern world. Dark times indeed.
Bringing this over from the dead thread but some newby at work tracked a shit-load of snow and grit over my clean lunchroom floor last night right in front of me. I asked him if he was born in a fucking barn. This shit is getting to me and someone, sometime is going to pay the piper. Jesus, I’m a peaceable man.
“I’m still very much in a place where I’m trying to decide what is the most effective thing I can do to help our Congress, our [political] process, and our country actually address the issues of climate change, health care, wage inequality, etc.,” she told the outlet.
I have a suggestion.
Also brought over from the dead one- https://youtu.be/7xSOuLky3n0
Hmm, this little tale sounds kinda familiar. Such a weird coincidence that what happened to little girl Commiela was recounted in a 1965 Playboy interview by MLK.
“ I will never forget a moment in Birmingham when a White policeman accosted a little Negro girl, seven or eight years old, who was walking in a demonstration with her mother,” King said at the time. “‘What do you want?’ the policeman asked her gruffly, and the little girl looked at him straight in the eye and answered, ‘Fee-dom.’ She couldn’t even pronounce it, but she knew. It was beautiful! Many times when I have been in sorely trying situations, the memory of that little one has come into my mind, and has buoyed me.”
Well, they are/were both politicians and hence, consummate liars. Kamel-toe loses points for plagiarizing a fucking lie, though.
If you are gonna lie, lie bigly. Lucky she has a supplicant media that will make sure that story dies pretty quickly.
Either Haley or King made up the original story. What 7 or 8 year old talks like a 2 year old?
And she’s totally oblivious to the fact that it paints her parents in a terrible light.
Oblivious to facts and harming other people seems to be her modus operandi.
“What 7 or 8 year old talks like a 2 year old?”
A poor, uneducated, oppressed black kid from Alabama?
(Just following the narrative, you know)
At this point it is hubris to think that we can ‘defeat’ the virus. The only measure that would’ve made a difference is containment and, well, we know how that went.
I am convinced the smartest, most effective thing we could have done is to keep everything open in the spring and summer, when the virus would have been at its least virulent, due to sunshine and fresh air, and go for herd immunity, just as has been done for hundreds (if not thousands) of years.
Instead, we squandered that opportunity because SCIENCE quackery.
Yep. We needed lots and lots of minor cases when people were out and about. And then hope for enough immunity to keep flu season in reasonable check.
I believe, without any sense of irony or political bias, that the very best thing that could have happened would for us to have never known about this new coronavirus at all. We’d likely have had, at most, the same number of deaths without all the other assorted destruction that came with it.
agreed.
Yep.
AND HAVE A SECOND TRUMP ADMIN??!?!!11ononeone
You’re literally worse than literal hitler.
The if we could just save one life mantra is being exposed. There’s always unintended consequences. It’s like traveling back in time to prevent a death.
The biggest death surge for us in Texas was in early summer. We have higher cases now but that could be a result of “improved” testing.
Nevertheless, I doubt the virus is truly seasonal. Cold viruses are not.
Viruses are seasonal. The four seasons being “school, every kid goes on vacation all over the place, the kids all come home and pass it around to each other, and then their parents get it.”
Yes. And the cold is more prevalent in winter. But that is because of human behavior only.
Nothing about the summer weather kills a cold virus.
Some strains of influenza, on the other hand, are harmed by summer weather.
Hmm, this little tale sounds kinda familiar. Such a weird coincidence that what happened to little girl Commiela was recounted in a 1965 Playboy interview by MLK.
More truth than fact can hold.
Most shocking: Kamala reads Playboy.
Remind me of the recent hilarious lie she made. I’ve now forgotten it. It was almost as funny as the Tupac lie.
Was it the kwanzaa lie?
oh yeah. lol.
It was probably a copy in Willie’s bathroom.
Maybe Willie told her that he wrote the story for MLK.
There is a deeper truth at work here that whether this actually happens. What is important is the spirit of what this brave woman has told us. It is her truth. It really is irrelevant whether this memory happened to her or some other child, she is leading us towards lived experience as a shared experience.
Like all Abominations, Kamala has memories from events that happened before she attained consciousness.
She sure fits as plagiarizer Biden’s second in command based on revelations like this…
https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/coronavirus-lab-escape-theory.html?utm_source=tw&utm_medium=s1&utm_campaign=nym
Not only would I bet dollars to donuts this is what happened I would bet money Dr. Anthony Fauci fully funded this outfit making him in the running for most despicable public characters of the last 60 years and that tracks with type of people who hold him in high regard.
This hypothesis has been gaining steam now that Trump is leaving.
This was mentioned recently in a meeting our security advisers had with the UK and I did a double take.
Now scientists are coming forward to back it.
The reason they didn’t want to admit their support of the theory before? To distance with Trump.
So effing stupid.
A lot of it has to do with the sainted public health officials they were looking to stick it to trump would be directly responsible for this. But pretty much everyone with a bit of curiosity had read about this in march.
It always seemed possible to me.
I guess what I’m saying is the media is no longer hand waving it as conspiracy.
ISTR that because bats:
-lived crammed together in vast numbers
-in enclosed spaces
-with piles of their own excrememt
-and all sorts of other microbial/microbial action
-and are in topor which prevents grooming
That they have amazingly tricked-out immune systems that lead to stupidly accelerated rates of pathogen mutation.
So, to be explicit, the answer to the question “what are the odds a new disease would be zoonotic from bats” is “quite good, actually.”
It’s definitely the weirdest virus I’ve ever had. The wide range of crazy symptoms I experienced from burning eyes, loss of smell, and intense chills with no fever. I’m open minded to the idea that it was created in a lab.
I think Occam’s Razor says it most likely came from the lab.
Don’t forget, this virus supposedly crossed three species – bats, pangolins, and people. I read that the bat species doesn’t live within hundreds of miles of Wuhan, but was used at the lab. I also seem to recall reading that the bat species doesn’t share habitat with pangolins. As always, grain of salt.
But, c’mon, the “gain of function” experiments being done at that lab were intended to produce viruses exactly like this one. And I’m supposed to believe its more likely it arose randomly in the wild hundreds of miles away?
Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania.
Remember when Congress refused to seat that guy from NC or SC because he used Ballot Harvesting in his campaign. I’m not saying they shouldn’t have I just think they should extend the courtesy to all delegations that used ballot harvesting, regardless of the legality in it’s locale.
NC, and I wasn’t familiar with the details, it was ballot harvesting?
IIRC, it was potrayed as Election Fraud, but the scheme amounted to Ballot Harvesting. which was funny because that same election was the one where they let CA seat it’s entire delegation despite the fact that they clearly used Ballot Harvesting to knock out some GOP seats.
Or, in current events, NY-22 hasn’t seated the Republican who beat the Democratic incumbent, because the incumbent refuses to concede and has tied it up with court challenges.
But that’s totes different than refusing to seat a Democratic state senator in PA with a contested election.
This is whole pile of shit about Trump and populism boils down to this: the populists in ’16 said “don’t give the usual establishment creature” and Trump answered that description. That’s it, nothing more. We keep doing that and we’re likely to get someone who can play the part, but is actually COMPETENT at being a strongman.
Do you all really want that kind of Top.Man? Do you seriously think that’s going to end well?
The Republic has already ended.
Very little of what happens going forward will be good. And yes, before long, a top man who is actually on the side of normal Americans will be seen as a savior. History repeats itself repeatedly.
“The Republic has already ended”
This.
At this point it is about making sure the people that have fucked us over pay too.
a top man who
is actuallysuccessfully portrays himself as on the side of normal AmericansThe reality doesn’t need to exist and it usually hasn’t for previous strongmen. There are very throughout history who have resisted the siren song of absolute power or not be corrupted by it once they wielded it. Something something Lord Acton.

Lessee…Cincinnatus, Washington…looks like we aren’t due for another for 1600 years or so.
Fuck.
The world mostly proceeds along regardless of how i desire it would be different.
we are way past the “is this going to end well” point. I think the real options left are we get a peaceable dissolution soviet bloc style due to a crippling depression, a Mussolini type reformist character or a Bernie sanders reformist socialist type character.
You’re right.
ROMNEY 2024!
Don’t laugh too hard, Nixon won on the second try.
JFK won by cheating.
What do you hope for? You are angry because some people here like Trump and/or find this election suspect. So what do you hope for? It is easy to be above it all and pointing out all the flaws in everyone else’s desired outcome because the world is in fact imperfect and every prospect has flaws you can point out. I know it is a trap I fall into often myself, but the Republic is either gasping out its last breath or already dead and we don’t really have the luxury of being snide about this possibility or that possibility any more. Trump is significantly better in my view than Biden, or even Biden with a Romney opposition. Trump has been gauche, he absolutely panders to the ‘Murica Fuck Yeah cohort, and he has been entirely too willing to sign big spending bills, but you can’t just point out that he is flawed, you have to have a better option you can articulate because the left is here and they are actively destroying our civilization while we libertarians pat ourselves on the back for our purity and sneer at the mud.
What do you hope for?
Now THAT is a perceptive question. And you can see how heavily it treads upon sensitive nerves.
And speaking of traps, the Republic is either gasping out its last breath or already dead is an excellent one. What if it is just clambering along and isn’t at some dramatic moment? What does that do to your passionate concern? Do you not see the millenarianist slant of the question, and how much it plays along with the same emotional impact on the other side that climate change has?
I hope for less drama and more boring competence. As if a bored people in this country can tolerate that. No they want EXCITEMENT and DRAMA to give meaning to their goddam fucking lives. Figure that out on your own, don’t involve me in it.
“I hope for less drama and more boring competence. As if a bored people in this country can tolerate that. No they want EXCITEMENT and DRAMA to give meaning to their goddam fucking lives.”
Thanks for telling me what I am thinking is the problem. I want drama & excitement! It can’t be that I realize how corrupt, criminal, inept, and unaccountable our mandarin class is, that they are selling us out to China, destroying my kid and other younger people that have not bought into the mandarin class’ communist indoctrination’s futures, and that Trump – despite the fact that the guy is far from perfect and drives me fucking nuts with his lack of concern about the government’s money printing & spending habits – was the one and only bulwark able to push these scumbags into reform of some kind. Instead I should just shrug that a guy that is completely owned by that mediocracy and the CCP now will go back to fucking us all over while the media hides the criminality, corruption, and ineptitude (see the Obama years). No, the problem is that I want drama and excitement…
There are some expletives I will refrain from using here.
Jeez, I hardly had you in mind when I wrote that, but if you really feel the shoe fits. I was honestly thinking far more about the left.
Well I hope you get it. But I think only a fool would believe that it was likely. If you think the past year was just bored people making up drama and in reality everything was just the same as it always has been one of us is so far out of touch with reality that further discussion is pointless.
I don’t think the last year is the relevant timeframe. The last decade or two at least, better to be looking back a full century.
The last year was huge. The people that had been slow boiling us all realized the threat that serfs represented (through Trump) and went all out. They fucking rigged the election, and when they realized it was not enough, stopped the counting to do more rigging. Then they just told us all to shut the fuck up and accept it. That slow boil went to microwave on high intensity at that point.
This. When did “a even more emboldened government trampling even harder on our rights, in pretty much every country in the world”, equate to bored people making up drama?
Airstrip One just fucking locked up the entire populace in house arrest, again. For example.
Honestly, I don’t give a shit about the state of other states. If the US had kept to it’s historic premise, we’d be the option for people that want freedom. What is bad is that we aren’t the anomaly we used to be, that we are regressing to the human norm. And that our own people are to blame for that doesn’t make it any more tolerable.
American politics has always had drama so you’re falling into a similar trap. I doubt you could find anyone on this site hoping for increased drama. The best option is to not pay attention, but here’s the thing, up until this point the left/woke has mostly been laughed at as ridiculous in ‘Murica. Not anymore, they have gained control of many institutions and are now implementing their strategy of remaking America.
Elections won’t solve that problem either.
The four boxes to fix that are the soapbox, the jury box, the ballot box, and the cartridge box. Taking away the ballot box by rigging elections, with the intent to do away with the soapbox with “hate speech” laws and possibly packing SCOTUS, leaves an unpleasant remaining choice.
Exactly what some of us have been saying since early November.
Even if you win the election, the govt doesn’t control all of that, nor should it.
Oh come on. Of course the government doesn’t have explicit control of those things, but to think the fedgov hasn’t been used to take control of those institutions is naive at best.
Oh fuck to the no.
Boring competence would only be good if FedGov was reduced in size by 90+% first. There is no possible government made up of humans that has the ability or the moral right to govern 300+ million people.
That fits within my definition of competence. It is incompetent to attempt to govern as you say.
The if we could just save one life mantra is being exposed. There’s always unintended consequences. It’s like traveling back in time to prevent a death.
The grotesque messianic fantasy world of public health expertism is truly revealing and frightening. They seriously believe they have been set among us to thwart Death itself, whether we like it or not.
If anybody ever deserved to be flayed alive and burned at the stake, it’s Foochy and Co.
I’d settle for fauci deserves to be publicly pillored for two weeks and afterword given an lifetime appointment as a court jester where he gets a one week reprieve a year to be used in dwarf tossing.
Chucky is upset.
Todd must have been expecting another Republican patsy when he framed the interview (complete video embedded below) as about “the Republican effort to delegitimize Joe Biden’s election,” claiming “there was no widespread fraud,” there is “no chance of overturning the election,” and “it looks like it is being done to curry favor with President Trump.”
But Senator Johnson didn’t take the bait and calmy began with his extremely important work on Covid therapies, the ability of physicians to effectively treat early-stage cases with widely available, safe, cheap medications. (This December 8, 2020 hearing chaired by Johnson is very eye-opening, and the fact the medical establishment is largely ignoring if not suppressing these therapies is the greatest public health scandal since the Tuskegee studies.) The senator then moved on to point to facts and the fireworks began.
I think we’re at the point where the only stat that isn’t GIGO is the “excess death” tally.
As I read the newly hatched “excess deaths” talking point, it appears to me the excess comes from models which project standard categories of “death by _____” based on historical trends, while adding plague deaths as a new, separate, additional category without accounting for the shift of large numbers of deaths out of those other categories into the plague count.
I don’t trust the excess death number.
Not even historic trends but a much smaller subset such as rolling 5 year look back, which can mask variability.
Actual excess deaths data lags. I haven’t checked CDC recently, but I know at one point they were predicting a goodly number of excess deaths from the ‘Vid, based on a model.
So, yeah, no. Until actual excess death data is in the books, I’m ignoring the projections. We should have good data through the middle of the year. Of course, parsing out cause of death is a whole different game. We can be pretty sure that there is a number of deaths due to the panic/lockdown, from people avoiding or being barred from getting care. I’ve mentioned before that I have been shocked at the decrease in stroke and heart attack victims coming to the ED – those are attributable to the panic. There are also a number of surgeries that weren’t done, including notably cancer biopsies and, incredibly, cardiac procedures, due to the lockdown bans on “elective” surgeries. Those are attributable to the lockdown. All of these will show up as excess deaths, but should not be counted as “due to COVID” in my mind.
Here we go again.
Some issues in Columbia Co. There was a programming error on security keys for some locations scanners & pollworker cards.
Let’s hope there are no plumbing mishaps that force them to postpone counting (or count in secret).
Reading another of Animal’s great stories I saw a discussion of fuel stability additives in the comments. I have done everything from nothing to full on storage prep over the years and I’ve concluded additives are snake oil.
I’ve also followed this from the beginning and appears to support my conclusion. TL;DW : 87 octane w/10% ethanol is the same as all he tested.

Bah. I either just run them dry or drain the tanks before winter hits. A little shot of brake cleaning fluid in the carb and they start up every spring. We don’t keep enough fuel around to worry about the issue.
Some applications require a bit more, but generally I drain tanks, run engine dry, than add some oil to cylinder.
Like all Abominations, Kamala has memories from events that happened before she attained consciousness.
She acquires the memories of the souls she consumes.
Willie Brown can describe her preferred point of contact for soul sucking.

Not really my thing but mind you, I never used to like broccoli so there is that!
As exasperating as melanin-enriched women POCs can be politically, they’re just way more exciting to me on average than white girls. My later-to-be-wife used to joke that I would “make a terrible black man”. She abruptly quit repeating that joke once I said, “That’s true, in the sense that if I was good at being a black man I’d be dating a white girl.”
Damn nice gallery. No. 31 reminds me of a girl I met at a Ghoultown show. Never got the number though.
Do you all really want that kind of Top.Man? Do you seriously think that’s going to end well?
Who ever said that?
And- despite the shrieking and shitflinging from the usual suspects about the Cartoon Villain’s despotism, the Democrats are the ones busily cutting the brake lines of republicanism in favor of central control of every fucking aspect of life. They would not hesitate to disband all fifty seven state legislatures in favor of an all-controlling national government, if they thought for a moment they could pull it off. All they do is bitch about the “loopholes” which allow states to opt out of their glorious designs for political perfection and uniformity.
see: “we need a baseline standard to treating this disease” and calls for a nationwide lockdown.
If the progressives are masters of projection, transference is the dangerous temptation for conservatives, particularly those of populist persuasion.
The reality of the ’20 election is, the Republicans won everything that mattered locally, and lost the Presidency. And what exactly is all the angst and doom about? Not about the health of the party at the local and Congressional level. Now, I’m perfectly willing to agree that as a party, the Republicans are spineless – which is still a better choice than the Democrats. Of course this is this to consider about the Democrats (as inconvenient as that can be when wailing about the terror of the left).
“The reality of the ’20 election is, the Republicans won everything that mattered locally, and lost the Presidency.”
And this isn’t a red flag to you? The fact that they lost the presidency because so many people “ONLY” voted for Biden? Does that sound to you like what the left would do if they were really voting or something done in haste by people that wanted to make sure orange man didn’t win? Man, you sure are trying hard to convince the rest of us that we should just buy the agenda peddled by the deep state….
It isn’t a red flag because Orange Top is really a piece of shit. I’ll agree that by the conventional analysis, the Republican incumbent President should’ve won – but Trump defied all of the conventions in ’16. So if the CW was wrong in ’16, why should it be right in ’20?
Yeah, sure. orange top is a piece of shit and that validates what you want, but the rest of us that see he is far better than the alternative and that we have had 4 years of resistance by people that are fucking sell outs, are the dunces…
Thanks for playing.
I would think anyone who has voted Libertarian would be used to losing.
I really would be as disheartened as you if the Blue Wave had swept through like the Dems dreamed it would.
But it didn’t, so just because Trump is turned out, I refuse to see the end of the world as we know it. Not a game I care to play.
“I would think anyone who has voted Libertarian would be used to losing.”
Is it still losing when it is stolen?
RC sez: We had a preview of the unity of the Deep Staters, regardless of nominal party, during the Tea Party days. Repub insiders hated them with a passion, and much preferred working with Dems than Repub Tea Party people. Repub insiders opposed the election of Repub Tea Party candidates, and refused to work with the ones who did get elected until they got coopted.
The Republicans very effectively co-opted the Tea Party – and yes, defanged it. But the TP was nearly as incoherent as Occupy was: “keep your hands off my Medicare” sure sticks in my mind. One of the things that demolished the credibility of TOS was the deluded insistence on The Libertarian Moment (TM). The Deep State obsession is nearing equality with that.
Yes, the duopoly is in general indistinguishable and interchangeable, because that has been the nature of the American people – bitterly divided by trivial differences. Yes, the establishment is corrupt, no populism is not going to change that. There is another classic American delusion – the belief in the glorious outsider, noble and incorruptible – who will go to Washington and set it straight. Drain the Swamp is straight out of Hope and Change, Reagan’s Morning in America and Teddy’s Square Deal.
“Drain the Swamp is straight out of Hope and Change, Reagan’s Morning in America and Teddy’s Square Deal.”
You forgot Mr. Smith! Yeah, we’ve been fighting this fight for a long time. However, I am not sure what else at this point to do.
I was skipping over the purely cinematic, but indeed, it fits the zeitgeist.
Deep State denialism seems far more irrational.
Are there any historical examples where a bureacracy didn’t become the de facto ruling body?
“Important” people don’t want to have to deal with all of the little details.
I deny that there exists a Deep State that has a coherent program of action. Public choice economics explains enough without invoking conspiratorial chicanery.
Everyone that wants a career in govt obviously believes in govt as the most important thing, why else go into it?
It’s just a job, and I’d be happier if I got laid off because of real downsizing of the government.
If we could get the remaining90% to acknowledge the truth of public choice theory, we might be able to push back. Until then, probably no such luck.
But what would be different between the Deep state conspiracy and what public choice theory suggests? Arent they one and the same?
Another fallacy at play. I have no problem with people that believe in government going into government and even holding the belief that government is the most important thing. I have a huge fucking problem with these people believing they should be afforded aristocratic status because they are part of the government class. Mediocre credentialed fucks are telling me I have no right to expect that as a tradeoff for the power they are given, they deliver value (like older generations of government did) and stop selling us out. Nah, I should just accept that these people being so inept and corrupt, with no means to hold them accountable in any way,. is the only way forward. Accept that they will enrich themselves by robbing the productive, create a fiefdom reserved for them and their offspring, and in general destroy both the middle class and the country selling us out to China, as the way things should be…
Fuck that.
You know who has sold us out to China? Every corporation that went there lured by 1B new consumers. You can blame the govt for plenty, but you have to blame our own greed for that.
Our bloated and worthless govt is not something I’m going to defend. It also isn’t anything even four more years of Trump was going to change.
I deny that there exists a Deep State that has a coherent program of action.
I believe, as I described, there is a large group of embedded bureaucrats and politicians with aligned interests. The Deep State is useful shorthand. Denying that there is a Deep State because this group does not hold secret meetings with a master plan strikes me as naive. There’s no need for secret meetings and a master plan when everybody is pointed in the same direction due to their aligned interests.
And at the top of their list of aligned interest is “immunity from consequence”. Which they are in a position to provide each other.
I would also point out the numerous times that Deep State figures explicitly stated on national television that multiple government agencies are working in concert to take down Donald Trump.
But, c’mon, the “gain of function” experiments being done at that lab were intended to produce viruses exactly like this one. And I’m supposed to believe its more likely it arose randomly in the wild hundreds of miles away?
The virus is sentient. It’s wily. It’s insidious.
They see me trollin’…
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene wears “Trump won” mask on House floor
The trolling is good for a few yuks and all and the right can do it far better than the left for some reason but if it can’t be converted into tangible results it doesn’t mean shit. They should worry less about scoring Twitter points which are ultimately meaningless and, uh, concentrate on getting things done…on second thought screw that, please continue to be distracted. The only thing worse than the vapid points scoring is when they roll up their sleeves and actually try to do stuff.
The biggest issue with the Trump fraud argument is that it’s scattershot and encompasses every little issue with voting that has been happening for years. Rather than a thoughtful purposeful singular argument about signature matching or machine tally issues, they’ve hammered everything and anything and it’s incoherent at best. And what was all of the Kraken bullshit?
Why is a consistent, single narrative required to describe anything having to do with social reality?
more to the point:
How is a consistent, single narrative to describe anything having to do with social reality something you would expect to see? Such a thing is impossible because social reality is a construct built of the impressions a myriad of individual lives make.
It would be more convincing? I don’t know but talking about 200 dead voters here and there doesn’t really help tell the story that he’s hoping to tell.
I would at least feel better if the 200 got prosecuted. Okay, the dead ones wouldn’t be, but someone voted for them, track them down and jail them.
They don’t have any legal narrative at all so far. The public narratives don’t match anything they’ve tried legally.
There is another classic American delusion – the belief in the glorious outsider, noble and incorruptible – who will go to Washington and set it straight. Drain the Swamp is straight out of Hope and Change, Reagan’s Morning in America and Teddy’s Square Deal.
I can’t/won’t argue with that. As far as I’m concerned, the best we can hope for is infighting among the swamp creatures which prevents them from turning their full attention on us. Trump gave us four years of that. Four glorious sloppy dysfunctional years.
Jack Ma Has Been Missing For 2 Months. The Chinese may have disappeared him for good. Or maybe he’s been hanging out with Gina Haspel,
Any rich Chinese fellow that doesn’t pad an out of country nest and go there before things go south for them is nuts.
Having that nest is wildly ineffective if they criticize the CCP while still under their jurisdiction. It’s hard to fathom why they thought they could get away with that, given the copious evidence to the contrary.
Makes you wonder what does he know.
Today seemed like a good day to smoke some brisket. That is all
Is this some sort of euphemism?
Ugh. Judi made a lovely curry dish last night and I just can’t choke it down. My sense of taste and smell seem to have declared war on cumin ever since the oral surgery. The beef was as tender as a virgin’s labia, too.
I will mourn for your loss Festus….

Woke: Get Fucked you filthy hippie!
I ‘member when the premise was to slow the spread because it was well and correctly understood that you cannot stop the spread.
Shit, I remember when deaths were the problem, but as we’re seeing with the vaccines, deaths don’t actually matter except as a cudgel.
Follow the Science™, no matter how much it changes from one moment to the next with no explanation.
The 17-year-old’s pancreatitis has cleared up!! WOOT
I missed the backstory. While I agree that a recovery is good, what’s the rest of the yarn?
Yay, pugsy!
That’s awesome!
It isn’t a red flag because Orange Top is really a piece of shit.
Now we’re getting somewhere.
He may be a crass buffoon, but compared to Joe Biden, who for decades has helped write laws which have destroyed lives and families? I’ll take Trump.
Compared to Kamala Harris,,who made a career out of locking people up? I’ll take Trump
As far as I am aware, Trump never left anybody to drown while he sobered up and got his story straight. despite the gleeful focus put on his failed bets, Trump has created more jobs than just about anybody you can name in Congress or the Senate, not to mention the vast parasitic morass of the beltway.
Would I like to hang out with him? No. So fucking what.
