At least this morning, I don’t need a morning after pill.
Maybe not that kind, I did take a daily multivitamin. Lose a lot of electrolytes after work. I’m not here to talk about me, because I have to pick up links from Sloopy. What a cheapskate!
This commie virus bullshit won’t go away, even for commies! Unless this isn’t bullshit, which kinda sorta makes anybody questioning the bullshit numbers since since this bullshit began NOT full of shit.
I had to squeeze through the rabbit hole from this FEE article to come across this;
San Francisco teachers are demanding the district install lids on every toilet, which would be closed during flushing to prevent the spread of the virus through aerosols or droplets released, though none of the millions of cases worldwide has been connected to a toilet, Rutherford said
Before I simply say this is peak teacher union retardedness, Toilets are disgusting devices. As disgusting as teachers. Nobody puts the seat down, or ip as needed, and people leave half floating turds just to show off to the next schmuck unlucky enough to find this is the next available toilet. No one in their right mind should think those things are in any way sanitary. Its why I piss in the sink.
That’s it, the banks are screwed already. I have some gold coins stashed away in a trunk somewhere,
Call them racist some more, maybe they’ll wave as you pass by.
Trump wasn’t all fun and games and maybe made things worse. The homosexual economist explains why.
Yes you dumbshit, its about butt-fucking at a Christian charity. More importantly…Victor Willis, the guy that actually wrote the song, said this:
“’YMCA’ is everybody’s anthem and go-to song for fun. As for the president’s use, I have not granted permission for use at his rallies because permission is not required,” Willis told Bloomberg News through a spokesman.
“If I were a Trump hater maybe I’d sue him simply out of spite,” Willis said. “I am not, and I’m not going to have my lawyers sue the president. But he should at least do the ‘YMCA’ dance while he’s at it.”
Its bad enough yo go through life as a retard, no sense in making yourself into a retarded killjoy.
Forget the CCP virus mRNA vaccine mass trial on the world, what you need is intravenous UNITY AND HEALING.
Mornin’, Glibs.
To truly purge your UNSCIENCY ways we will use no gel!
What’s the line in GB, y’all have to take it or can it be refused?
Not yet mandatory. If our betters were smart, they’d realise that they only have to gently encourage things in their desired direction to make it a de facto mandatory vaccine, as in, most if not all aspects of public and professional life would require it, rather than opening themselves up to being accused of yet more totalitarian rule by fiat, in which they simply decree that until you have it, the only reason you would legally be allowed to leave your home would be to get it. I don’t know which way they will go, but I fully expect it to be effectively mandatory somehow. I think my parents are off to get vaccinated today. They were so happy about it.
I think GB is favored by a field goal.
*narrows gaze*
UNITY AND HEELING
What you did there, I see it ?
If only we could make Leaders and Followers as politically incorrect as Cowboys and Indians.
Ed Stringham from AIER/Mises was on the BBC explaining how he hopes y’all can kowtow to China some more on trade policy. The last four years have really made many rethink the abstract, principled, more or less absolute standards I set for trade and markets being the sure way to peaceful relations, and sowing the seeds of a free society on China.
When faced with an existential threat from a tyrant who plays dirty, you simply cannot win by countering them on your ideal, principled terms. So many comparisons are made to this being the opening phase of a new “Cold War”, but really, Hitler is the closest analog to Xi, and simply being cordial and expecting him to play fair was the undoing of so many.
Finally, the Hitler analogy finds a worthy application.
Trade balance in our time!
“you simply cannot win by countering them on your ideal, principled terms. ”
Are you talking about China or about how Republicans are supposed to support unity and fairplay now that Dems have spent four years savaging Republicans in power?
It’s universally applicable, apparently.
Morning all
Where does that pic of Winston’s mom come from?
Flame away, just curious.
“Where does that pic of Winston’s mom come from?”
The internet.
[Stands and applauds vigorously as tears roll down cheeks]
I got it from your mom.
Psst, it’s “those pictures.” She’s wearing two different outfits so this was either a regular play date for the model, or someone’s photo shoot.
Dad’s sock drawer?
There’s three good tools to help answer that question: Google Image Search, TinEye Reverse Image Search, and Yandex Image Search. All three let you upload a photo and find similar ones (including NSFW images, if you’re so inclined).
That right there is the Fun-Time Glib Happy Hour answer that I was expecting.
I had forgotten all about TinEye. surprised it’s still around

“BREAKING: Biden’s secretary of education had paused student loan payments and put interest rate at 0%”
Biggest suckers? Those people that actually worked and saved and sacrificed to repay their student loans…what a bunch of losers. And how can a President just change loan interest rates based on a proclamation?
The Chairman of the PRA has the authority to do what is necessary for the good of the party and people.
Can I get a do-over on my loans? I paid them of fifteen years ago, but I’ll take a new 0%, no-payment loan in the same amount today.
I never had student loans. Worked 4 years to earn the money for college. I do have a mortgage. Can I convert that to a no-interest, no-payment loan?
Even worse, I had no student debt. I paid as I went with jobs, scholarships and fellowships, and a good dose of help from my Dad.
But I spent the last 20 years paying off the wife’s student debt.
wife + children = time + money sink
I’m probably the biggest sucker then. I signed a 4 year “guaranteed combat arms” contract in the Marines for (among other things) the GI bill. My education was financed almost equally between GI Bill, personal savings, and academic scholarships. If I hadn’t done a lot of prep courses for my master’s while still working I wouldn’t have knocked that out in a year and would definitely had to have gone for a loan to finish that.
If we are doing loans, can i get my mortage redone? Why 0%, lets be fair, make it -5%.
Time for a bigger house.
It’s a straight up voter bribe. Veiled bribery is still bribery. That’s more money for shitty college students and shitty universities.
Yes, but it is taxpayer money. It is only illegal to buy votes with your own money.
This is the actual thought process on the left.
Greetings, fellow chumps who repaid their debts!
Suckers, represent!
I am busy helping my grand daughters solve their student loans. I’m successfully trying to convince them that a handshake is binding, it’s what ethics are all about.
It’s not renegotiating a contract, it’s a default.
OTOH they thought they were in college, getting an education, so maybe the education system failed them…
Greetings – I paid them off 7 years early. What I should have done was lie back and bleat for others to do so.
We’re in 100% de Tocqueville territory now.
Trump attempted to buy black support with $250M/year to the HBCUs.
Biden responds with $20B.
Hmmmm…….
If I can take out $50K for both of the Altar Boys to finish school and never have to repay it, well I just paid my last money to colleges.
Thanks to all you tax suckers! Just moved retirement up a few years.
I was paying on mine diligently until FedGov stopped requiring payment. I figure I am a net taxpayer and productive member of society so maybe I deserve so save some money, you know, so I have something to wipe my ass with when the inflate the currency and I can’t afford toilet paper.
We need to put the Executive Order horse back into the barn, but I fear that most may say neigh.
HAY!
I hate to be a nag, but bad puns are my thing.
Well, looks like phase one of the economic reckoning is underway. Time to start moving away from saving assets in retirement accounts.
1) forgive student loans – reroute investments to be less confiscable
2) single payer healthcare – prep up for long term economic and social instability
3) begin confiscating 401(k)s – become as self-supporting as possible without attracting unwanted attention
Missing Romanian Update:
PieInTheSKy has made contact. As was surmised yesterday, he is taking a bit of an internet break right now.
That is all.
Good to know. Thanks.
Actually a really good plan.
I wish I could, but this site is the only “human” contact I get outside of work. And there’s a lot I can’t say around coworkers.
Once I’m retired and unchained for the desk/computer, you will see a great deal less of me.
from / for – dammit, where’s my coffee
Blam!Ping! Blam!Ping! Blam!Ping!
robots don’t count as human contact.
Supposedly this weekend’s match will be listed today. I was going to link it, but Dave is being a lazy person and doesn’t have it yet.
yep
Oh, okay.
Thanks for checking. We were worried.
Glad to know pie is well. Thanks for whoever made contact.
Frankly, if it is anything important or wanted, and done over a computer – we know it is SP.
Thank you.
Ok, this response is a bit psycho.
Good tidings for once!
Give him my best wishes and all that shizz
Good to know. Thanks!

An Hour After Joe Biden Is Sworn In, WHO Admits Their Testing Grossly Overstates Individuals Testing Positive for COVID
It is almost like they had an agenda. And the creator of the method said specifically not to use it to diagnose a virus. This is my shocked face: 0_o
Last night, I made the mistake of trying to watch a thing on youtube which was ostensibly about “How the world recovered from the Spanish Flu”. Youtube puked it up for me. Nice work, youtube.
Surprise. I bailed when the limey idjit started blathering about how there was no SCIENCE in 1918, and that’s why those stoopid know-nothings didn’t understand the glorious benefits of shutting down the world economy to keep some completely unknown number of people from dying, in the middle of a fucking World War.
Do you know how many people were killed by the Spanish Flu? That’s okay, nobody does.
My daughter asked about the Nuremberg trials last night which led into a very interesting conversation involving deaths, oppression, responsibility, liability and countries access to resources. Throwing out millions of deaths so casually is kind of surreal. I touched on what happened to Ukraine and talked about concentration camps and different methods for the industrialization of genocide. How the Russians picked up a few tactics from the Germans.
My daughter didn’t know that the allies, didn’t know about the genocide and concentration camps. Granted, they knew something happened to all of those people but they didn’t know it was that horrific.
But I think what’s so hard about all of it is the scale of it all. The shear numbers of deaths. The amount of goods, weapons, tanks, planes, bombs, etc produced almost overnight. The amount of technology that was created and implemented in even our small human history was almost the blink of an eye. All of those things all happening at the same time. Truly amazing.
We then went into a bit of a hypothetical of a modern actual world war. That was interesting to say the least.
To help put it in context – it’s a bit eye opening that it wasn’t all in one gasp, but over the course of 6+ yrs (much longer for the Russians, etc). This was grinding on and the homefront news was limited at best – especially compared to the daily feed today. The sheer manpower just in blocking the news, censoring letters, etc, etc.
Several parts of the Nuremberg trials are on you tube. Might want to direct your daughter to those, especially considering how many of Goering’s answers are now 21st American politician/bureaucrat boilerplate.
Good to know. Thank you.
Einstein & Rutherford would like a word
That was just science, not SCIENCE!
Those guys (and of COURSE they were guys) were sooo stupid they hadn’t even discovered systemic racism or cisheteropatriarchy yet.
Oh they knew – they were huge believers in that to keep down all the brilliant women and POCs.
You know, I really need to find some Nazi quote on “Jewish science” and trim it up to fit the current narrative.
Yeah but their science “reeked of anti-blackness” or something, because reasons.

and did anyone ever tell him what the song is about?
No one told the racist homophobe that Lil Wayne and Kodak Black are not white either.
A lot of blacks voters weren’t told they were black or were told they weren’t black. Either way they betrayed their race.
Political blackness matters more than skin blackness.
Indigenous Headdresses have been CANCELLED for many past and current years!
You have to watch out for those deadly convid toilet plumes.

PieInTheSKy has made contact. As was surmised yesterday, he is taking a bit of an internet break right now.
I thought perhaps he had gone to radio silence while awaiting the outcome of his visa application. Can’t be too careful, you know.
Instead of turning to face the new president, several members of the National Guard tasked with providing security for the event turned their backs to him as the presidential motorcade made its way to the US Capitol.
EXTREMISTS. DOMESTIC TERRORISTS. TREASON.
As if security is supposed to face outward or something… oh, wait.
Yeah, I don’t buy the article. I think that’s the way that they were supposed to be facing.
To be fair, we do need to protection from the incoming administration.
The Economic Policy Failures of the Trump Administration
I think we can all agree that going back to Obamanomics is exactly what this country needs.
Did I say that? Who the hell said that?
I was being facetious.
I ain’t falling for your traps Akbar!
This has been going through my head since yesterday.
Yup. Enough people went out and voted for this clown show. Now they get to live through it with us.
I’m not locked in here with you, you’re locked in here with me.
In the sense that many deaths have been connected to COVID simply because the decedent tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus regardless of the actual cause of death, nearly 100% of COVID cases are “connected to a toilet,” as most people use toilets rather frequently.
But, yeah, lack of precision in language aside, no evidence of infections due to exposure via toilet aerosols.
BTW, I’m trademarking “Toilet Virus Aerosols” for a new punk boy band I’ll be promoting just as soon as concert venues open back up.
Toilet Aerosols is the name of my third album.
Maybe we can work a deal.
That name stinks.
most people use toilets rather frequently
Adding to the problem, in Frisco, toilets are everywhere.
And they look a lot like stoops.
*screams at passersby, pinches one off on the sidewalk in front of a fancy bistro*

Don’t take a needless swipe at him.
charmin’ that is.
“The Economic Policy Failures of the Trump Administration”
Biden is about to tsunami the markets with the USD. This feels like an early attempt to lay it all at Trumps feet. Granted, Trump does bear some responsibility for spending immense amounts of federal dollars. I think Uncle joe is going to make them looks like rank amateur’s by 2022.
Lets pretend we live in a world where no matter what bad thing happens in the next year, up to and including a rock falling from space and killing everyone, is going to be blamed on Trump.
Let’s be real, Obama got an 8 year pass by libs simply because he followed Bush.
And Clinton got a blowjob and played the saxaphone!
Where’s Biden’s Nobel? Why doesn’t he have a Nobel yet!?!?!
It’s those god damn white supremacists again! NAZIS!
Redecorating.
President Joe Biden shuffled the decor in the Oval Office after former President Donald Trump left Wednesday, removing the bust of Winston Churchill and the painting of former populist Democrat President Andrew Jackson.
Instead, Joe Biden added several additional busts to the office, busts of Robert F. Kennedy, Cesar Chavez, Rosa Parks, and former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt, according to the Washington Post, who got an exclusive preview of the new decor in the Oval Office.
Interesting choice.
Thankfully the adults are back in charge.
Jones said, “It’s just memorizing to watch a functional government doing functional government type things. I mean, just a press conference, and there was a human, and the person said words, and the words made sense. Then somebody asked a question, and then the person answered the question, and you are just crying. Oh my God.”
Reacting to Jones’ emotion, anchor Anderson Cooper said, “This is like a “Saturday Night Live” skit.”
Panelist David Axelrod asked, “How long will this go on?”
Jones said, “I don’t know. It is wonderful. Thank God, hallelujah, and Jesus, I’m so happy.”
He added, “Then you had Biden literally was just swearing in the people and telling them to be nice to each other, and if you don’t, I’m going to fire you. That was powerful.”
Jones is a very damaged individual.
Get used to it. The legacy media will spend the next four years frantically tonguing Joe Biden’s anus.
Fixed that for you.
Two years plus one day – that way Round-Heels Harris can run for two terms.
Repost, but pertinent to the Oval Office hook:
“Joe.”
“Joe.”
“Jooooooee.”
The softly hissed call carried around the darkened office, quiet as the wind over a gull’s wing, but clear. Joe started abruptly, drool briefly stretching from his lip to the blotter, then finally stretching too far and breaking, falling, a line that glinted in the moonlight striking the Resolute Desk.
“Wh-who’s there?”
Silence. Joe’s tired eyes came to focus, flitting from point to point around the strangely familiar room, but no one was there. The shadow of a high spot in the carpet in the middle of the room formed the illusion instead of a dark pit.
“It’s Time, Joe,” hissed the air, softly.
“T-time?” Frightened and uncertain. That wouldn’t do.
“Who’s there?” A somewhat more forceful demand.
“How soooon you forget, Joe. You know who it is.”
“I don’t know you.” Tentative.
“Perhaps you will remember. You remember this, don’t you?” A mist formed in the moonlight, eddies in the air beginning to shape themselves into an ovoid, then more detail became apparent.
“Son? Son? Is that you?”
The face regarded him neutrally for a moment, then dissolved again and reformed, feminine this time, young and hopeful.
“No! What?” Joe’s eyes tracked rapidly around the room again, pupils dilated in terror, the first recognition of his situation now upon him. His muscles tensed to stand, but he made it only a few inches upward when a pair of powerful hands slammed down on his shoulders, staggering him back into the chair. He looked up, seeing nothing. No one was there. But the pressure was there, holding him in the chair. It started at his shoulders, then progressively downward, each part of him feeling heavy, heavier than he had ever felt before. He couldn’t rise. Maybe he didn’t want to rise.
“Joooooe. It’s Time.”
“No, I’m not ready to go yet! I’ve come so far! Not now!”
“Silly Joe. You’re not going anywhere. No, now is the Time when debts are paid.”
“I paid those debts. You took– The loss…”
“While your down payments were…satisfying in their time, there is more, so much more you can give.”
“But the loss–”
“But so much gain, Joe. And so much more now to gain. You’re going to gain for me Joe. You spent so much time losing, but now, you remember, you are mine. You have been mine for a very long time. An investment that has finally paid off. And you’re not going anywhere soon.”
“You can’t do this! It took decades for you to deliver on the deal!”
“You dare! If it weren’t for your ridiculous incompetence, you would have been at that desk decades ago! It took years to rehabilitate your reputation, only for you to foul it up again! No. You have a lot more to pay, Joe, and I will recover it. In. Full.”
The mist disappeared suddenly, and the weight left him, but he still felt heavy, so heavy.
“What have I done?” The lonely man sobbed out the words, alone in the moonlight. His eyes slid from the high point in the carpet, down, down, down, to the pit in the shadow below.
That’s some inspired writing. I am a midget among giants on this site.
Thanks, I appreciate the compliment.
This site is like the pre-viagra-Hef years of Playboy.
and if you don’t, I’m going to fire you. That was powerful.
That was Trump’s thing.
It’s so fucking weird.
I mean really, really, really fucking weird,
There is something fundamentally alien about these people to me, like I’m observing another species – to be fair, the same thing is true about the MAGA true believers as well. How does someone come to exalt scummy politicians to such a degree?
I have never been able to figure it out. It has to be some sort of evolutionary carryover.
They don’t see government as the necessary evil.
To them, it’s the prize.
Don’t take him at face value, Van Jones knows he’s full of shit but there are plenty of people who actually do believe (see bottom left quadrant of that political measurement from the other day).
Trump actually is a bombastic, entertaining, funny as hell asshole though. Trump actually is a larger than life character, a cartoonish parody.
Joe Biden is a very workmanlike lifelong politician first elected in 1972. He’s not anything special, he’s not a great orator or a great intellect or a great statesman. IT’s incredibly fucking strange that they’re leaning into this JOE BIDEN IS COOL!!!! thing. Leather jackets and aviators and his old Corvette. It’s fucking absurd.
Remember when he was bald, then he wasn’t bald anymore?
“Remember when he was bald, then he wasn’t bald anymore?”
Bring that up and I’ll bet you somebody retorts that Joe was shaving his head before it became cool to do it.
Not only that but, before Trump, Biden was a national joke, a dimwit who was constantly marginalized by the guy on whose ticket he ran as VP. And, before that, he was known mainly for plagiarizing speeches and graduating near the bottom of his law school class. Even the lefty journalists mocked the shit outta him prior to 2016.
Yep. Joe Biden was Cheap-Laffs Johnson.
Jones is a smart guy and a propagandist and that kind of dreck plays well to the right audience. You know, the kind that watch CNN that aren’t watching because they’re sitting in an airport.
So fucking petty. Lunchroom politics.
As God is my witness, I believed that was from the Babylon Bee.
Poor Chris Matthews hasn’t had a tingle up his leg in so long…
How much will a beer cost, when the minimum wage is $15/hr? I think I’ll start asking people that.
$19
I assume owner/operators can still work for less than minimum.
So economy of scale will be interesting. I see a missing middle coming.
Considering there was already a collapse happening in a couple of the places that jumped from regional to nationwide already, we may see the rebirth of the 2-3 barrel breweries. There’s one here in the Cleveland area, open for 8 hours a week. The owner is a cop who’s still working on the police force.
Yes, I could see that and the successful big craft breweries.
But how do you get new ones? Answer is, you don’t. Standard problem where regulation protects the status quo.
Or you sell the name and recipes to one of the big boys, or join up with one of the mid/big range craft alliances.
Dream job – General Counsel for a craft alliance.
If I had a significant amount of cash, I would try to become the Warren Buffett of breweries. Have a central company that provides cash for expansion and etc to companies in exchange for a percent ownership. And also provide an exit plan for owners.
robc:
I believe that’s what some of the alliances (such as ABV – Southern Tier, Victory, Sixpoint) are looking to do. There’s also another alliance in Michigan that includes Jolly Pumpkin, Traverse City, and a couple of others. In each of them, from conversations I’ve had, regardless of who comes up with a beer recipe, they’ll put it under wide release under the name they think they’ll do the best with (a specific example that I was told about was an IPA from Jolly Pumpkin).
But, how do you get big enough for one of the alliances to be interested in you?
The small, part-time model is my retirement plan. I will reopen with a better business model, primarily one that requires me to break even instead of make money. Have fun instead of trying to raise a family off of it.
Lake Effect Brewing in Chicago is the next step above that – their “store” is a single cooler with 3 shelf racks next to it.
Good morning, Winston’s mom!
And good morning to my fellow tax cattle. I hope everyone is well and ready to work for the glory of the State.
China locking down again perplexes me. Particularly as we appear to follow every dumb fucking thing they do.
I get the feeling our fuckwit is just itching to crack down again. All doom and gloom.
Oh well, fuck them. I hope you have a great day, peeps.
Here’s a good one to send you on your way!
Dear teachers-
Don’t stick your fingers up your butt. Don’t drink out of the toilet.
You’re welcome.
I now await teachers calling for an end to plumbing ventilation.
Got it.
Sticks fingers in toilets, starts drinking out of someone’s ass.
Bachelor’s degree in education, or PhD?
That’s Master’s level work. For the Ph.D. you have to drink from the toilet with your butt, and stick your fingers in someone else’s mouth.
While ordering your thesis on inequities in toilet water purity from an online Chinese dissertation mill.
200 left-wing protesters are on the streets in Portland right now, with anti-Biden and anti-police messages.
“We are ungovernable,” one sign says.
How long till the Dems take the kid gloves off?
The first step already taken.
Covered on NBC this morning using neutral terms.
“Protesters with anti Biden and anti police signs spray painted anarchy symbols and smashed windows”.
Compare and contrast with coverage from Portland this summer. Photos and commentary were not from approved BLM sources. They were pretty much straight news on this one. A huge departure.
Oregon Democrats? Never. This is democracy bitches.
They have sown the wind, let them reap the whirlwind.
[FIXED]
“let them rap the whirlwind.”
BLM reference? I’ll take it!
Obviously a typo. *Rape the whirlwind. Or at least sniff its hair and whisper an invitation to see a puppy in its ear.
STEVE SMITH LIKE WAY YOU THINK!
Oooo – someone showing off his privilege!
At least I didn’t stealth edit…not that I wasn’t tempted to…
Instead, Joe Biden added several additional busts to the office, busts of Robert F. Kennedy, Cesar Chavez, Rosa Parks, and former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt, according to the Washington Post, who got an exclusive preview of the new decor in the Oval Office.
Where is the battalion of internet psychiatrists desperate to inform us about Ballgag Joe’s Oedipal fixation on the fairer sex? Why aren’t they warning those women to never go into a broom closet with the President without armed security?
Eleanor Roosevelt: First Tranny
Surely the US president is not putting up a Chavez bust.
Build the wall.
Wasn’t Chavez an insurrectionist?
He was a communist.
Oh, so he gets a pass.
?
I put Chavez in the same category as Mandela. They were both fighting a corrupt system that exploited their race. Both bought into a the socialist lie that they thought would free them.
To some extent, blame lies with those who support liberty not being insistent on fixing those systems. They left ideological room for socialists and communists to fester.
“Mostly peaceful protestor.”
The UFW under Chavez had some fairly Trumpian tendencies
Can’t you sniff a bust?
Biden’s unlikely to get busted for anything. You can’t charge a sitting President with crimes, you know!
If the president does it, it’s not a crime.
He will.
The broken noses will be explained away as an excercise band snapping.
Cesar Chavez?
Shhh …. he thinks it’s Che Guevara. You know how all they all look alike to Joe.
Honestly, I think once the Navy signs off on things (and it looks like they have), I’ll be ready to get the vaccine. I know the issues with the Anthrax shots (think I made it through 5 of the set before I left active duty and I’ve read/bought the book – but I would definitely say that there’s a lot more scrutiny here).
My reserve job right now involves physical ship inspections for readiness, etc. Finally got to do my first one last week in Norfolk – after I joined the unit in April last year. I’ve served on DDG/FFGs before, but this was a big amphib – and good grief, my knees are still feeling it. (if anything, I will finally get some real service-related claims out of this before I retire). That said…I had to go on orders 5 days before the inspection, take the test and sit in my hotel room on base (albeit allowed to leave to go to the gym, get food….pretty much anything else….(isolating?)) before participating in the inspection – that still required me to enter and leave the ship every day.
And of course…once I got home, I found out from the base CO where I work that because I went on a ship, I have to isolate for another 14 days (which at least my company is giving me some paid work to do from home – one good thing about contractor support – and being a decent worker).
Not sure if the vaccine is going to get rid of all the admin BS at this point but I think it will make the pre-inspection stuff a lot less painful – esp since I’m trying to do a few weeks back to back later this summer with some other big deck inspections – maybe in San Dog…Hoping for more official clarification soon though but since most of them are two shot systems, it may not work with our drill weekend schedule.
Interesting. I will watch and see what happens with you – please keep us updated.
*opens lab notebook, pushes glasses up nose, begins writing*
“…big deck inspections…”
*lights Tonio signal*
Deck, deck!
“All hands on DECK!!”
‘Ello, Sailor!
https://youtu.be/tbazGVrbN-g
I have been informed that I can go out to one of the local military bases and get the vaccine any time I want to. I figure I’m going to give it a couple months for any side effects to show up before I take that offer.
Is anyone really going to dispute that, or is that a fair summary?
No, I won’t dispute it at all.
I also think a Trump Party will be an unmitigated disaster. The only possible good thing that could come out of it is if the libertarian wing of the GOP took the opportunity to seize control of an organized movement with momentum. But I find that unlikely to happen.
Libertarians are more likely to put a stuffed Buffalo head on as a hat.
I find this criticism of my attire choices triggering.
Looks like you gored Scruffy’s bison.
Pssh. Buffalo hats are for CONFORMISTS
The only way a Trump Party would succeed is if he had someone working for him who really, really wanted to build a viable 3rd Party and was willing to put in a lot of hard work.
Trump may want to build a party to get revenge but he isn’t going to do the work. He has no deep thoughts or cunning plans. He’s like a 5 year-old. He will quickly tire of the project once the initial blaze of publicity is over and he will move on.
This lack of focus or actual real positions on issues that screwed over his administration. He never really got shit done because he was too busy fucking around on Twitter.
Trump went out like a pussy and any chance of building a meaningful third party, even a spoiler party, was flushed down the toilet. He’d do better to stick with some kind of media venture because the only people who’ll overtly follow him politically are dead enders.
The Buffalo-Moose party?
The GOP will go full Lincoln Project before they let libertarians get their filthy hands on their party.
I wasn’t clear. I meant if the libertarian wing of the GOP defected and seized control of Trump’s effort.
There is no way in hell the grifters in the GOP are going to allow any upstarts from here on out if they can help it.
Do you not see the fundamental incompatibility of what you dream of? Libertarians are about as anti-populist as they come – they love their ideals, not real people.
Purely musings on my part.
It’s not going to happen. Libertarians will remain irrelevant and the growth on both ends of the authoritarian spectrum will continue.
We also don’t really like organizing political parties and playing the campaign game.
Rand Paul as party head?
The GOP will go full Lincoln Project
So invest in websites for rentboys?
Own the libs? Lulz? Thats pretty much it.
I think “ideological push” is a term a bit too strong. Can anyone clearly lay out what ideology Trump was pushing? “Ideological push” implies a consistent application of a set of principles to ones actions, IMO.
He’s a 90’s Democrat.
You probably can’t more than an hair’s width of political gap between his actual policy proposals and Chuck Schumer’s from 1995. Other than Trump being more friendly to gay marriage and less war-mongering, that is.
Exactly this. Trump was pushing Trump. Actual policies? Not so much.
One of the biggest disappointments was the number of times he’d announce something that I agreed with, but then he’d have a meeting with a Swamp Creature and things would go back to normal. Afghanistan is a good example of that. How many times did he announce that he’d get everyone home and then some general would huddle up with him and no one ever go on the Freedom Bird home.
Honestly, I also can’t say that not pushing policies is entirely bad. I think we will all end up wishing Biden was as unfocused and lacking in follow through as Trump was.
“One of the biggest disappointments was the number of times he’d announce something that I agreed with, but then he’d have a meeting with a Swamp Creature and things would go back to normal”
He did this all the time on foreign policy and military stuff. I call it Tom Clancy Syndrome, blinded by the braid and the CIA badges.
Trump pushed whatever was last fed to him. There was no ideological consistency at all – I’m not sure if that is good or bad. It shows you can sell a lot of people on something without much substance – that is not good, since that is pretty much what the left does as well.
Chaotic Neutral Paladin? Someone easily distracted? Failed spot check on deep state? (and i am saying this as a fan)
“stood in hard contradiction to anything like traditional American conservatism, much less classical liberalism”
High tariffs to protect internal industry and staying out of foreign wars is traditional American conservatism. That’s what the Republican Party stood for from formation to when Eisenhower beat out Taft in the 50s.
Reaganism and Bushism was not handed down to Team Red from Mount Sinai, which is the way the National Review set portrays it. The Cold War’s over. We won. Time to bring the troops home and cut the military industrial complex down to size.
Re: Tariffs, I consider them to be as equally evil to any other form of taxation. Perhaps slightly better since you can avoid tariffs by buying American, thus starving the beast. I’d rather live under the tax code of Calvin Coolidge than the tax code of George W. Bush, but I would prefer actual freedom to both of those.
You seem to confuse NR with The Bulwark. NR isn’t some hotbed of neo-con desire to remake the world, and which conservative was the first to make the break with The War on Drugs? I’d rather live under an NR regime than populist bullshittery.
“NR isn’t some hotbed of neo-con desire to remake the world”
https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/iraq-war-just-cause-saddam-hussein-threat-stability/
Orange Man Bad, Iraq War Good is an article they published in 2019. They have learned nothing and forgotten nothing.
“which conservative was the first to make the break with The War on Drugs”
The dead guy with the funny accent?
” I’d rather live under an NR regime than populist bullshittery.”
The NR regime was the Presidency of both Bushes. That’s exactly what it is: Kennebunkport conservatism.
There is a pretty broad stretch of opinion at NRO compared to a lot of other sites. Charles CW Cooke, Harsanyi, Kyle Smith and Williamson are considerably more libertarian-minded than French, Goldberg, McCarthy, etc.
Then you have VDH and other indie thinkers like Armond White – it’s not a lockstep thing like most other sites.
I’m disappointed by a lot of the recent articles, but very few of their articles represent the site as a whole – even “the editors” is only a subset of the writers.
Yeah, one writer is completely indicative of the entire NR mindset – you do know they publish Victor Davis Hanson too?
I’d take either or both Bushes against any Dem alternative. Not perfect by any stretch, but clearly preferable. Just what the fuck do you think you are ever going to get? What ideal of a President and Congressional presence do you think there is a chance in hell of having? Or are you just a full on collapse/decadence believer and that there is no future but decay?
“Yeah, one writer is completely indicative of the entire NR mindset – you do know they publish Victor Davis Hanson too?”
On the topic of the Iraq War, I’m pretty sure they did speak with one voice. I never claimed that all their writers thought the same way about all issues, but as I recall NR was in favor of the invasion, and in favor of the Wilsonian experiment of nation building.
“I’d take either or both Bushes against any Dem alternative. Not perfect by any stretch, but clearly preferable.”
By conceding every premise to the Left, and then staking out a position in relation only to the Left, the controlled opposition of the Bushes and their ilk drags us ever out of the channel onto the rocks and shoals. They offer an echo, not a choice. Driving the same direction, but slower.
“Or are you just a full on collapse/decadence believer and that there is no future but decay?”
The problem, as I see it, is the centralization of power into DC. Anyone who concedes that DC should be an Imperial Capital, that anywhere from 30 to 50% of the entire wealth of the nation should flow there to be redistributed according to the whims of the Ruling Class is part of the problem, not part of the solution. There can be no liberty as long as this state of affairs exists.
I agree with you about the problem. Now, how do we get other people to see that? Because that’s the root of the problem – most of America is on board with either the Repub or Dem version of centralization.
“Now, how do we get other people to see that”
You can’t. People in this country receive over a thousand hours of statist indoctrination per year from 5-18. Then the smart ones go to college, get another four years of it, then are placed in positions of power and authority. This indoctrination is more and more explicitly socialist with each passing year. You cannot disentangle that programming for more than a tithe of a tithe of the population using anti-state propaganda.
You can’t vote your way out, and the idea of a counter Long March cannot work because the people who took over the institutions guard against it.
I see no political solution to our problem – the centralization of power in federal administrative agencies. It is so embedded in our governance and in our culture that it can’t be voted out. I see no peaceful exit from the path we are on, and I think the likelihood of a violent exit is both highly unlikely and terrifying.
So, I see no point in engaging in politics at all any more, even at the most minimal level of voting. Its a waste of my time, and if I vote anything close to what I believe, I will be put on a list for doing so. I am not a registered Republican, and did not vote by mail in the last election, so I’m not on a list at this point, but I doubt I will have the option of casting an anonymous ballot or not identifying my party affiliation much longer.
Remember, the “if you’re not with us, you’re against us” party is in charge now, so if you think not registering as a Republican will keep you off the list, I think you’re wrong. Independents and other non-Dems aren’t with them, so they’re against them, and there’s your name on a list.
Oh, and I’m quite sure I’m on some lists already – CCW holder, firearms buyer, at a minimum. I just don’t care to be on any more.
So when will the MSM stop writing Trump stories. Or will they write them for the entire 4 years of the Biden administration? A “well sure Joe and his family are getting kickbacks, but at least he isn’t Trump” type of story?
I don’t think the MSM can stop writing about Trump. He broke them.
The CA political media still blames Republicans, and the last one to hold statewide office was Ah-nold.
My California cousins are retiring with full six figure pensions from the California school system after decades of indoctrinating their students. They believe, truly and completely, that every problem CA suffers is due to Reagan. Not President Reagan, Governor Reagan. These are mid 60s women, they couldn’t even vote when Reagan left office. They are retiring to Austin Texas, and are eager to vote there going forward.
LOL OK ?
They were promptly sent to a dea-… erm Covid Camp.
Happy camps.
Baseball birthdays suck again. January has been pretty consistently wretched.
Mike Tiernan leads the way, he retired in 1899.
Big dropoff to a group of 3 “modern players” in the low 20s WAR range: Brandon Crawford, Mike Krukow, and Rusty Greer. Crawford is still active, but well past his prime. I would be surprised if he gets to 30 WAR (he is 25.5 now) . He will not approach Tiernan’s 41.5.
I’ll jump in with today’s NBA birthdays to fatten this up…the top two are both foreign players, and were born in the same year (1963)–Hakeem Olajuwon and Detlef Schrempf.
Although Hakeem later became a US citizen, or at least reached whatever classification was required to play for the US Olympic team.

I think “ideological push” is a term a bit too strong. Can anyone clearly lay out what ideology Trump was pushing? “Ideological push” implies a consistent application of a set of principles to ones actions, IMO.
I think Trump ran for President because he thought it would be fun. No ideology required.
It was, for a while.
From the start, I never thought he was be a 2-termer (well, even a 1-termer) just because he would get sick of it before 4 years were up. In some ways, I think I was right, even if he wouldn’t admit it.
“Hey, this isn’t like West Wing at all!”
I made the comment yesterday or the day before that the big inaccuracy in The West Wing was that Sheen wasn’t golfing nearly enough.
The West Wing was a barfworthy show. It’s American mythology with a pantheon of gods that rule over us, wise and good, but slightly flawed.
On the other end, it’s confounding to me that a show like Veep is so apt and descriptive, yet those who participate in it are still so committed to their party. Their blinders are massive.
Need I remind you of the cognitive dissonance of the creator of The Wire and his creation?
Or Joss Whedon.
“Or Joss Whedon.”
Simon is far worse than Whedon. Whedon makes fun little sci fi and fantasy shows.
David Simon covered the city for decades at a major newspaper. There was one interview, I think on Reason, where he explained in exacting detail why the city government was completely fubar and exactly how all the incentives worked against reform. Then he finished this diatribe with something like
“But this just shows you how important it is not to abandon these institutions.”
Dude, it’s the same mindset as someone confronting the corruption in a church and still believing in the mission of the church. Belief is unconquerable.
“Dude, it’s the same mindset as someone confronting the corruption in a church and still believing in the mission of the church. Belief is unconquerable.”
Oh for sure, I’m just saying its far more understandable with Whedon because when he made Firefly he doesn’t see the Alliance as just any government, he sees it as an oppressive government. Whereas Simon is actually watching a real corrupt and ineffective government and still standing up for it.
Need to watch more Veep, but it’s by Armando Ianucci and pulls most of it’s themes from the UK predecessor “The Thick of It” – with the Parliamentary system – the ministers know they’re being screwed over by the bureaucrats, but they go along to get along in public for the “prestige”.
The “director of comms” (Malcolm played by Peter Capaldi) rolls over everyone period.
The Thick of It was great. The movie version (In The Loop) where they had to include Americans as pretty meh. Too much McDormand.
Are you thinking of “Burn After Reading”? McDormand wasn’t in “In the Loop”.
It was Gandolfini’s last flick before he passed. RIP.
If being President was fun, he would’ve golfed a lot less.

@JoeConchaTV
First question to new WH press secretary Jen Psaki from the AP: “When you are up there, do you see yourself in your primary as promoting the interests of the president or are you there to provide us the unvarnished truth so we can share that with the American people?”
Oh, she will Psaki the “truth” at you good and hard.
In my house yesterday:
The Wife, muttering to herself in response to the TV: “he was the worst president in history”
Elementary school child:. “you mean like he started a bunch of wars and stuff?”
The Wife:. “Uh….well…actually he did pretty good on that. Not all presidents….”
Elementary school child, trying to be helpful:. “so he put a bunch of black people in jail?”
The Wife:. ” Well, actually he pardoned that one… You know what, I can’t talk about this….”
Storms out muttering.
Dad:. Tries not to get caught laughing.
Someone is parenting well.
I need to make one of those PSA commercials about “Living with TDS”.
from the mouths of babes
That’s great. But you’re in for a long few years, if your kid likes poking the bear that much.
I am fairly certain they were honest attempts to be helpful. “Hmmm. What is the worst thing a president can do? War! OK… What is the second worst? ”
I avoid all things Trump like the plague. TDS and PMS are a lethal combination.
Heh, Malice on Anthony Cumia’s show and they’re discussing the inauguration:

Good stuff…
An American institution.
ON SEPTEMBER 5, 1955, FRIENDS Joe Rogers and Tom Forkner opened a diner in this Decatur building. The chain restaurant they founded, Waffle House, is now spread across the South, famously never closing their doors save for act-of-God weather events.
But the very first Waffle House did close its doors for a time, serving as a series of other businesses before the company bought it back and opened a private museum in the building in 2008. From the outside, it looks like a Waffle House, often tricking passersby to come in search of hash browns. But the museum doesn’t serve any food. Instead, the interior is a faithful recreation of the original 1955 restaurant, along with several decades of Waffle House memorabilia.
Uh… Seems like a missed opportunity. Someone needs to open a waffle house next door.
I’ll have mine smothered, covered, and capped.
When they had an all-you-could eat menu, they limited your options at “covered.” But bacon cheeseburgers were on it, so WIN!
You can’t be too careful
At the Capitol, Durbin predicted there could be metal detectors at entrances to each legislative chamber and some “enhanced” perimeter of the building.
“We’re reaching a point where it is — if we have to fear that some members will bring firearms on the floor or visitors will, then we have to take extra precautions,” he said.
Durbin said he hasn’t spoken to new Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer about placing metal detectors in front of the Senate chamber and it would be his decision.
As for now, portions of the District remain largely on lockdown. Four of the bridges inbound to the city are closed until Thursday morning. The National Mall, the city’s central park, is closed, covered in flags to represent the American citizens who cannot be there in person due to the security measures and Covid-19 restrictions.
National Guard troops are stationed throughout Washington’s neighborhoods, including Chinatown, Foggy Bottom and the borders of Dupont and Logan circles.
It was not clear Wednesday what, if any, of the physical changes around the Capitol and district will become permanent.
Some people might stop and ask themselves, “Do the people we work for really despise us that much? Why”
But that would be silly.
In fairness, Durbin has sufficient reason to believe somebody might want him dead.
Based Allen West.
The Texas Democratic Party announced Monday, Jan. 18, that its Executive Committee is calling for 22 Texas Republicans to resign, accusing them of trying to overthrow the will of the people and inciting the violence at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
In an interview Monday, the state’s Democratic Party Chair, Gilberto Hinojosa said, “There has to be consequences for this. And we believe these people need to resign or be removed from Congress.” …
West called Democrats hypocrites.
“We can go back to 2017, we can go back to 2005, when we saw Democrats are the exact same thing that was done with the challenge of the electors. They don’t have the same type of standards that they want to hold themselves accountable to.” …
“There’s a certain group of people that are now saying, you can have not free speech, but you can have acceptable speech and acceptable speech means that that is what we consent to. And we will allow you to say, you cannot go out there and squash political opposition speech, that is fascism. And that’s what I see happening.”
I really want to stop fighting over who owns the term “fascist.”
Totalitarian is sufficient and apt.
It’s a very comfortable well worn groove for rightwing media types.
The Right: “HAhahahaha you call me a fascist, but you did this fascist thing two years ago, bet you feel pretty silly now hypocrite.”
The Left: *Says absolutely nothing, but adds rightwing commenter to domestic terror watch list, blacklists him from appearing on any network but Fox, has a mob of students shouting down his lecture at a college, pulls his book deal, brainwashes his children to hate him and everything he believes.*
Too many syllables.
Unity/healing/etc.
Ben Rhodes calls for there to be “years” of a firm and brutal “detox” of “lies” and “hate” from the entire right side of the aisle in America and that it must be done through the use of “national security” and “Homeland Security” officials.
Now there’s a vile human being.
I would not shed a single tear if he ended up Seth Rich’ed
Guttfeld has been hanging out here listening to us.

Rants about calls for unity after the media spent years fomenting racial hatred and hatred of “us”.
Epic rant that could have been delivered by most of us glibs.
Gutfeld gives me hope.
To the media:. ” The divide exists because you created it. You watered it, you nurtured it…”
“a call for unity from Joe Biden is like a call for glue from a 5 year old child who has just broken a lamp”
This is super accurate. My daughter broke something the other day and said, “Can’t you just glue it back together?”
Well, was it gluable?
No. No it was not.
D:
Fortunately, Amazon has a fairly loose return policy. It was a birthday gift and 2 days past her birthday, so we sent back and got a replacement.
“Well honey, you can try. Here’s some glue, and please let me know how it works out. I’d like my thing back good as new by this evening”
Baltimore to allow indoor and outdoor dining to resume Friday, with one hour time limit for patrons
Something must have happened recently.
Ill have 2nd lunch now.
Couldn’t be more blatant could it?
That will be corrected – they can’t have more liberty than PA!
Apparently Baltimore is suing several oil companies, because the reason their sewer system needs repair is CLIMATE CHANGE! So of course, it’s only fair the Exxon, Shell, and BP pay for it.
Well, it’s not like they have anything to cut. Only 40% of the city’s budget goes to paying people who don’t work there anymore.
Do I get to input my own if I select “other” because I have some ideas.
The newly inaugurated Biden White House wasted no time in making what LGBT groups are calling a “meaningful” gesture. Visitors filling out the contact form on the White House website are now asked to submit their preferred pronouns.
WhiteHouse.gov now provides visitors the choice of selecting “she/her,” “he/him,” “they/them,” or “other” when filling out the webform. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) celebrated the change.
My pronouns are Me/You.
Mine are “Fuck” and “You”.
I went to the Doctor’s office a couple of days ago. I was pissed that I had to literally fill out all of their stupid forms… again. Nothing had changed, still got to fill it all out… again. Last form? What do I identify as and how do I want to be identified…. I was pretty pissed after filling all of that other shit out and that was what they had waiting for me at the end of their shit rainbow.
I threw it in the trash. I should’ve wiped my ass with it and left it in the stack.
Hate & prejudice don’t exist anymore because of the WH web site contact form! Hooray!
Wait, I thought China was the ONE country that did things right, and has beaten the virus?
They did. But Trump’s mishandling of it let it spread back.
Every single outbreak has been caused by “foreigners”. (typically Chinese coming back from overseas).
Have they finally identified the correct target?
More than 100 anti-fascist demonstrators in Portland attacked police and vandalized the city’s Democratic Party of Oregon building Wednesday afternoon, breaking several windows in the process, according to police.
Before descending on the offices of the Democratic Party of Oregon, the crowd scuffled with police on bikes, who were monitoring the area where the group had told supporters to meet.
Was Ted Wheeler in the street in front of Democratic party HQ saying, “These are not the fascists you’re looking for.”
The fascists to them are whoever happens to be the dominant power structure at the moment until it’s them of course. Looks like the neolibs are going to fail at riding that tiger.
They probably persuaded themselves that only Bernie would be acceptable as president.
The truth is, they don’t want a job or a house they have to rent or make mortgage payments on.
They want free stuff and a good bit of fake war play.
In a functional economy, they’d be too busy working to hang out and riot.
Wait a sec— Soros helped fund Antifa when Trump was president.
Maybe the antifa rioters are pissed that their riot-for-cash deal just expired.
hmmmmmmmm……
I think the Dems and the rioters both see each other as the Useful Idiots. I’m curious to see how this turns out.
I if college is free, many more people will go, just like high school.
Snd, just like high school, the quality of American Uni education will take a nose dive.
Foreign students won’t want to come get a useless degree, so grad research will dry up.
Colleges with good hard sciences programs will be better off splitting from Universities to preserve their own value and integrity.
But as soon as the left sees that those degrees line one up for a good career, they’ll whine and bray until they get in too. Then they’ll whine about how hard the tech colleges are, not even a safe space for them!
Uncle Sam’s wallet will be used to try and manipulate the colleges.
I look forward to the whole system burning down. Maybe something better will rise from the ashes. But hard sciences must divorce themselves from dysfunctional College of (liberal) Arts.
Grad school will become the new minimum requirement which has sort of happened already, maybe in fifteen years it’ll be post grad studies. Wash rinse repeat and the left will never let that system fail even if they have to moneyprint us into oblivion to do it.
Jill Biden is a “doctor.”
These ships have long sailed, hit reefs and sunk.
I get the feeling Biden is trying to prop up a failing system. Besides the “prestige” you get from going to a big school, a degree often doesn’t have a lot of value. Make it cheap and easy for everyone to get one, and that value will decrease even more. Meanwhile, in the past year people have realized they can learn something useful at a community college or online, and I’m seeing a resurgence of interest in the trades.
Nah, its just a wealth transfer from deplorables to the anointed.
Yeah, I see the death of the “university” education, with a bit of study from each college, being.a good thing.
Let schools gather up to teach what they teach, without taking on the burden of including all topics of study in their institution.
So you go to a trade school or college and train in just that one thing: welding, dentistry, engineering, pre-med, geology, etc.
Want to learn history? Read books or watch the Khan Academy or equivalent. That way you can learn your chosen trade at college without poisoning your brain with socialist history or economics.
the quality of American Uni education will take a nose dive
I think you’ve got the wrong tense there.
My father studied Latin in high school; wasn’t even an offering when I attended. We’ve been dumbing down for quite a while – this is no new thing.
My HS offered it. The only person I knew who took it wanted to go to med school (or was it law school?) and thought latin might be useful. I don’t know who else was in the class. IIRC, it was an easy grade compared to other languages.
On the other hand, one of the school options we are considering for my daughter is a private latin school. They start teaching it at the 3rd grade. We are still deciding how long to go to Montessori, but when we stop it, we will probably send her to the latin school.
My kids’ very good private school doesn’t do Latin.
But they do start in the Lower School with Spanish for 2 years, then French for 2. Once the kids reach middle school, they can then choose which they’d like to continue with.
My oldest wanted French, but chose Spanish because he thought it might be more useful for him in the future.
Colleges with good hard sciences programs will be better off splitting from Universities to preserve their own value and integrity.
Fortunately, my alma mater doesn’t have this problem. The Board of Regents would never let us expand programs anyway as it might allow our football recruiting to improve.
You mean like Penn St – who awarded a PhD to the author of this paper?
That was Pitt. Not Penn State.
Oh never mind. I see that he did indeed receive his B.S. and Ph.D. from PSU.
But he started his B.S. work after I graduated, so obviously the decline was sudden and in no way implicates my time there!
Nice try.
Nephrite-Jade amulets, a calcium-ferromagnesian silicate, may prevent COVID-19.
Additionally, the inclusion of the co-authors in this manuscript was an error in my (Moses Bility) judgment. Although the co-authors assisted in the various stages (except conceptualization) in developing this work as outline in the article, the conceptual understanding and far-reaching implications of such an unconventional approach and complex idea that employed concepts/frameworks from geology, geophysics, and Condensed Matter Physics may have not been fully clear to them all. Indeed the expertise of the co-authors is in the biological/biomedical sciences, thus they only contributed to that aspect of the work. Therefore, upon reevaluation of the co-authorships, I have determined that all my co-authors did/do not meet one or more of required STOTEN’ or ICMJE’s authorship criteria for this work, they requested to be removed from the author list of our revised manuscript.
OK, so I go to the guy’s curriculum vitae at U Pitt and see this: https://www.publichealth.pitt.edu/home/directory/moses-bility
How does one go from that to jade amulets inhibit virus transmission via properties of condensed matter physics?
Melatonin neurotransmitters?
I don’t know whether to blame Penn St or UNC.
UNC is always, ALWAYS to blame in all things
Agreed. But fun to blame PSU too.
“the quality of American Uni education will take a nose dive.”
Ummm…. Should we tell her?
I think you’re right that the university system will become hollowed out, but I have a hard time imagining how the colleges of science and engineering can separate from the liberal arts side. They’re needed to bring money in and pad the overall university statistics for job placement and salary.
Maybe we should just go by portfolios. Come for the interview with your portfolio of work to show me, take some tests to make sure you know your shit, and then I will hire you for a 6 month trial, upon the end of which I can broom your ass for any reason.
That way hiring isn’t too risky, and I will therefore be ok with being the one to give you your first professional job.
That would cover a lot of job types. Show me you can do it; I don’t care how you learned it.
RACIST! DISPARATE IMPACT!
Agreed. I have some great employees with some diverse backgrounds. Their degree from 10 years ago matters less than what they did last year or since they graduated.
That makes a lot of sense, but part of what hiring managers look for in an education is the fact the credentialing has been outsourced. There’s value there for the people that hire engineers…we don’t have to devise tests and do all the qualification work that the universities are supposed to be doing.
Now, when I review resumes and applications, I absolutely try to vet experience and if the candidate makes it to the interview phase, I ask them heavily about their past work, or in the case of a freshly minted engineer, I ask about hobbies, and why they got into engineering.
But the universities until now have been trusted to at least certify that the graduates have demonstrated at least some sort of understanding of the concepts. Take that away, or do a bad job of it, and not only do the technical programs at universities collapse, but employers spend a lot more time and money vetting candidates. Eventually that would end up as associations of employers creating and maintaining credentialing cooperatives.
Aaand we’ve circled back around to the guild system.
I’d say that HS being free wasn’t the big problem, it was HS admission being guaranteed and HS graduation being nearly guaranteed.
Most other countries do not have automatic admission into their equivalent of high school. Many don’t have location-based assignment like we do, or it’s a lot more flexible. The notions that you are guaranteed to make it to 12th grade if you don’t commit a crime and you can pretty much graduate as long as you bother to show up more than half the time are egalitarian nonsense. If you can’t hack HS at 15, maybe you can at 25, and that’s what the GED is for. But if you can’t hack it, why should you be there and why should anyone give you a diploma?
becuz feeeeelz.
Apparently Albany HS has a 50% graduation rate and nobody blinks an eye.
I think out of my class of 902, there were three dropouts. Though we did have a much larger number of students that transferred to Frances E. Willard School for Girls.
Jeezus. My (public) high school had something like a 97% college acceptance rate. PRIVILEGE!
I wouldn’t be surprised if half of my high school class is either dead or serving prison time.
Yeah, I just about drove off the road when I heard that on the radio.
I’m sure that even though my HS had more Nat’l Merit scholars than any other in the state, we didn’t have 97% go to college. Too many classmates were already working on the family farm/restaurant/body shop etc. before they graduated. And there was a pretty stron VoTech program too.
Here’s the town where I went to HS…they talk about Fairfax County VA being wealthy, but Ridgefield? Like, gott damn.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ridgefield,_Connecticut
Ooooh! Both hoity and toity!
My town had an annual festival derived from people getting together to sell off unneeded roosters.
https://roosterdays.com/
Did they hold an auction called the cock block?
That kind of filth will NOT be tolerated, young man!
That sounds like you laughed.
We had a hot dog stand in “downtown” called Chez Lenard. Chez Lenard.
Look, if a university accepted me as a student, the whole system has its standards waaay too low.
And that’s probably still too high (or rather, most of them don’t belong in HS as such anyway).
Baltimore City has a 72% graduation rate, but only 17% of its students score proficient in reading and math. That’s a solid 55% of its students who somehow graduate and get diplomas despite not having what one would assume are the key criteria for graduation.
It’s a lot harder to measure, but I’d hazard a guess that few of those 55% are getting a trades or vocational education, either.
Though, to be fair, my own HS has a 97% graduation rate but only 83% are proficient in math and 58% are proficient in reading. The discrepancy is not as severe (especially for math) but it’s still there.
NYC’s graduation rate went UP last year after the spring semester basically being canceled, and yes – nobody bats an eye. Except the opinion page of the NY Post.
How Does Someone Like Lauren Boebert Get Elected?
Her rockin’ bod?
But it all made me ask: Who the hell is Lauren Boebert? And if I was doing my job, how did I miss her last year?
“When somebody tweets ‘I am the militia,’ that’s a pretty clear indicator of who they support,” says former Colorado state representative Diane Mitsch Bush, who ran against Boebert in 2020 and never got sufficient traction as she called on voters and the media to investigate the former restaurateur’s right-wing militarist ties. While noting there is no proof that Boebert led Capitol tours for the rioters, Mitsch Bush nonetheless told me, “Anyone who followed her campaign, my God in heaven, could have predicted” she would support the insurrection. Among her campaign’s security guards were some of Colorado’s “Three Percenters,” a militant right-wing racist group that has come under investigation for its potential role in the planning and carrying out of the Capitol riot.
Boebert got a flash of national attention back in 2014, when ABC’s Nightline did a segment on the restaurant she and her husband owned in their hometown of Rifle, Colo., Shooters Grill, where the future congresswoman and her attractive female wait staff all packed handguns (hers was a semiautomatic). Then a bleached-blonde, now a sober Sarah Palin brunette with glasses, she let the ABC crew film her getting ready for work, putting on makeup, and buckling on her holster. Asked about some locals’ ire at the notion of pistol-packing wait staff not far from the sites of her state’s Columbine (1999) and Aurora (2011) gun massacres, she answered blithely, “I think it should be normal everywhere. I think it should be a common sight. I think we would have a lot less violence if it was.”
Oh, I see that you are insane and a liar.
OMG NO WAI
Great minds…
Yeah…knock me down with a feather.
Better change my profile pic ASAP!
I’d have more respect if it were a Glock 18.
“all packed handguns (hers was a semiautomatic)”
OMG!
What, did they expect her to have a cap and ball colt?
It’s wrong to blame Obama for trying to figure out how to defuse the racial rebellion his election helped inaugurate.
Wow they really do live in a separate world.
If you detonate it, the fuse is no longer burning.
Now there’s a myth.
The left media banked on accusations of racism for eight years. Anyone who opposed Obama’s policies was only doing it because they hated blacks.
Obama, while not encouraging that tactic, refused to speak out against it directly and maintained the appearance of being above it all as his minions encouraged it, and his wife directly participated in it.
Fuck that asshole. He set race relations back four decades or more.
Now instead of racism anyone opposing Biden’s policies is a crypto fascist.
I have been called a fascist for expressing views in direct opposition to fascism. These retards need to read the actual Nazi/Fascist platform and learn something ffs.
If they could read they wouldn’t be retards.
“Diane E. Mitsch Bush is an American politician and retired sociology professor who served as a member of the Colorado House of Representatives. She was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2018 and 2020 elections in Colorado’s 3rd congressional district. She was defeated in both the 2018 and 2020 elections.”
I feel I need say no more.
““When somebody tweets ‘I am the militia,’ that’s a pretty clear indicator of who they support,”
George Mason!!!! OH NOES FREEDOM IN MY AMERICA HOW DARE SHE I CAN’T EVEN!!!!
“Then a bleached-blonde, now a sober Sarah Palin brunette with glasses, she let the ABC crew film her getting ready for work, putting on makeup, and buckling on her holster”
Of all the right wingers the media hates, they hate attractive women with guns the most. Absolutely sends them in a tizzy.
Wasn’t Boebert the gal who is packing in the House? I bet she was really unpopular with the other House Members when the protesters were coming into the Capitol building.
I can’t believe Boebert isn’t making hay out of the fact that out of the 435 House Members she was the only one ready to repel boarders. (Feinstein probably had her gat in her purse over in the Senate).
The point of being the correct class is you go to cocktail parties and let the servants fix the toilet or carry the evil guns to protect you.
Two hundred miles is “not far?” What an asshole.
Like that protest in Virginia which was “a mere 100 miles form the capitol siege?”
“When somebody tweets ‘I am the militia,’ that’s a pretty clear indicator
of who they supportthey understand what the militia actually is in the United States,”Unlike, say, Joan Walsh.
I managed to make it one full day yesterday without opening Facebook. My last post was “Politics is poison. Don’t believe me? Check your Facebook feed.” That was about 2 weeks ago, but I had been checking in here and there. A few of you said that would be a great way to go out, and I think you’re right. Let’s see how hard it it to break that addiction.
If you turn off the notifications, not that bad.
I would block the domain if my wife wasn’t addicted.
Yeah, that’ll be the irony of my own departure from FB. A friend and I were on the phone one time and I said there wasn’t much going on in my life and he laughed and said “if I want to know about your life I just check on her FB”.
I never had notifications turned on, so I have that going for me. I have notifications turned on for messenger, but that’s because my hockey team uses it to communicate, and about 10% of that is something important. 🙂
I have noticed, I don’t text or message nearly as much as Mrs. TOK. I don’t know if it’s self-awareness, or me changing as I get older, but I find more than a 5-10 minute interaction with people to be exhausting.
You can deactivate (not delete) your account and still use messenger.
I’m keeping Facebook because the baseball league I help run uses it as our means of communicating with the public, and I’m in charge of that.
And yes, my team uses Messenger, and 10% being important stuff would be a massive exaggeration.
I finally decided to violate my own principles and silence the three biggest leftist blowhards on my facebook feed and it’s nice now.
Before I had this great idea that I was gonna be open to what everyone had to say, but if you post 4 times a day whining about politics you truly suck.
I think I see the problem.
I’ve snoozed a whole lot of people, including close family members (e.g., siblings).
I posted something and got a gazillion likes, all from my friends and family and I’m like, WHAT?! Where did THEY come from?
Oh. I’ve snoozed them, but they haven’t snoozed ME.
Because I am not stupid so I don’t wear my politics on my sleeve.
I’ve unfriended SO many people in the last couple of months. I don’t care if they aren’t around to like my posts. If they are commies, commie lights or fascists they don’t get to be apart of mine or my children’s lives. It hurts, but i really think that ‘taking the high road’ has done nothing but allow one side to run rampant with no repercussions.
I can’t wait for the first discussion of “Why aren’t we friends on Facebook anymore?”
“What’s a facebook?”
My husband’s stepbrother is utterly incapable of passing by one of his posts and must go off on a rampage (complete with name-calling) every chance he gets.
My husband didn’t want to block him because he loves his stepmother and doesn’t want to hurt her (in case stepbrother says something to her), but I finally persuaded him to unfriend and block.
Both my husband and I do the adult thing–scroll on past things we don’t like.
I can’t believe Swissy is holding out on the super scientific (and classy) Swiss Covid Precautions!
Stupid teachers could learn how stupid they are if they just watched this video.
TAKE THAT DOWN – DAS IST GEHEIM!
Someone is just chock full of privilege today!
My old Swiss neighbors sent that to me. They didn’t mention anything about needing to keep it a secret.
Dept. of
the InteriorRacial EquityHer email to Department employees lays out what matters now at the Interior Department:
Lastly, I am eager to welcome a strong Biden-Harris team to the department over the coming days, weeks, and months. The administration is striving to appoint people that are talented, experienced, and look like America. I will communicate to each appointee that we must carry out our work with the same core values that I know you all bring to public service: honor, integrity, heart, and professionalism.
Today in America, there are significant and converging challenges facing our nation: the pandemic, the economy, climate change, and systemic racism. I look forward to working with you to address these and to serve the American public. Thank you again for your service to this nation.
For them to even mention the VP as some sort of equal partner in governing is highly unusual. Pay attention to the writing on the wall.
It is basically an open secret that the DNC will ditch Mush-head as soon as possible in order to get their first staggeringly incompetent Whamen of Color POTUS.
They get rid of him around midterms 2024 so Kamala can be Preznit for 10 years.
Will they? I mean, assuming the voting process isn’t rigged beyond repair by then (I know, big assumption), that sounds like a pretty much disastrous strategy. Harris proved an incredibly weak candidate, even in the Democratic primaries. If the Democrats don’t overstep by the midterms, I’ll be incredibly surprised. Trying to clear the way for rule by a hard-left Hillary Clinton without the charm just when the public is getting sick and tired of progressive nagging doesn’t seem like a winning strategy.
They’re going to install her as Pres without a single vote having been cast for her, even at the DNC. I don’t think they’re too worried about elections & votes.
honestly I hope they do that. That would be such a fucking fiasco. Harris so incredibly dislikable and transparently fake. Hilary Clinton is more charming.
I kid you not, Harrison is worried about his place in history. After all, can YOU name the second-shortest Presidential term?
Politico dropped this one yesterday
https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/19/joe-biden-inaugural-speech-lincoln-460506
Now It Can Be Told.
If that doesn’t work there’s also the bombshell corruption accusations that will suddenly come out.
I suspect that if the Dems need to put the pimp hand to the Bidens to get them out of the White House, Hunter will be the card they play. Of course,
DOCTOR JillJoe could pardon him, but there’s plenty of state AGs who could step in at that point.Nah they’ll use the 25th Amendment if he doesn’t go of his own accord. It will absolutely be “In sorrow, not in anger.”
“Joe Biden unfortunately only had the chance to serve as President for a couple years, but he left a big mark on all our hearts. He is in good spirits, and physically is in fine health, but hes lost just a step mentally. Thank goodness we have such a competent, wise, and capable VP ready to step right up and lead us, right now.”
I’ll put money on it – the Dems will not use the 25th amendment to publicly humiliate a Dem President. They will force him out, but it won’t be that way.
My terms: The 25th Amendment process will not be formally initiated against Joe Biden before December 31, 2022. I got $20 I’ll put up against any current Glibs commenter who takes this bet.
No way, Joe already said he’d develop some kind of disease.
*no way I’d take that bet.
Does “using the 25th Amendment” mean only going through the actual defined legal process, or can it include forcing a resignation through implication and innuendo that it might be invoked to great embarrassment?
Does “using the 25th Amendment” mean only going through the actual defined legal process, or can it include forcing a resignation through implication and innuendo that it might be invoked to great embarrassment?
Yes. I want the bet to be on definite, verifiable terms.
Answering “yes” to an either/or question is less than helpful.
Yes, the bet requires initiating the actual defined legal process.
The only upside is that it is the Secretary of the Interior, a relatively innocuous position. I feel bad for Park Rangers, but is there that much more land that BLM can seize and can she screw up the reservation system more than it already is?
I don’t know, I think BLM can take more land than CHOP.
/Intentionally missing the point
DOI cuts my paychecks…don’t know why..but they do.
Maybe Biden can take Deblasio and Carranza (racist schools chancellor) off our hands, since that’s all they yammer about.
Colleges with good hard sciences programs will be better off splitting from Universities to preserve their own value and integrity.
They can reinvent themselves as for-profit enterprises. That’ll stir things up.
So now that the Democrats are in charge of the system, how long before systemic racism is ended?
They have to finish implementing it first.
That’s the beauty of it. “Systemic” can mean any system. Not just government, but work, schools, entire industries, even social interactions. As long as there are people alive there will be systems that are racist.
The “system” of systemic racism is capitalism. Because “critical race theory” is an evolution of Marxism, of course the bogeyman is capitalism.
Not as quickly as you’d think.
Trump really let Amtrak slide during his administration, so it will take time to get the trains running to the camps.
Depends on how long it takes to dismantle the entire system of govt, no?
In further proof that the left can’t meme is the new trend of taking the pic of Bernie in mittens at the inauguration and putting him in other locations. Fuckin-a
I wouldn’t say that was just the left doing that – seems like everyone is having a bit of fun with Comrade Bernie.
Some of them are damned funny.
I’ve only seen lefty ones of him hanging out with people’s favorite bands, etc. Blech!
I AM ONCE AGAIN WEARING THIS COAT was the one that had me laughing.
I managed to make it one full day yesterday without opening Facebook.
Well done. Baby steps. One day at a time.
I just got my 10 Year Chip. Don’t miss it one little bit.
That’s a never ending cash cow for them. Covid on the other hand will be vanquished within a month. Deplorable and racists such as myself will be stricken from the record.
Had to go into work today. No big deal, just partitioning out our system for testing and training. Open up my email and its a message from our new chief of staff. “Starting today, masks will be required in all DOT facilities”
I had to remove my mask that has been required since about August to make sure my spit take hit my monitor properly.
Sounds about right. Everyone knows the federal mandates from pres cartoon villain were only suggestions, nothing that folks could get fired for…..
We’re not even allowed in our (Fed) office without a permission slip. We definitely have to wear masks if we’re going to be there. That’s been the case since late March.
^^ We are even more strict on contractors…which…I think I have a loophole that might be able to get you in the building KK if you have a contractor badge…
For us, rules are the same for all desk jockeys, regardless of employment status. But I’m not interested in going into a sad, empty office, other than to get the rest of my shoes and knickknacks
Even though I’ve figured this was always going to be the case since like June the actual reality of a 100% masked society for the foreseeable future is upsetting,
The chocolate ration has been increased from 2 ounces a week to 3 ounces every two weeks, comrade.
My father studied Latin in high school; wasn’t even an offering when I attended. We’ve been dumbing down for quite a while – this is no new thing.
I blame systemic racism.
Me too! Not enough hot Latinas in my high school.
THAT’S what they meant by “taking Latin!?!” Shit… I’m such an idiot.
I went to a Catholic High School and they briefly offered Latin and when it turned out that only myself and a girl I had a major crush on, they canceled it. I blame the Pope for the failure to realize my romantic goal.
*out that only myself and a girl I had a major crush on had signed up
The same thing happened to me me but it was fencing at the local community college. 🙁
so you never got to conjugate with her?
Nope just one date and I screwed the pooch, the theater we went to was showing Home Alone 2 and Dances with Wolves (multiplexes were not a thing in early 90’s Burlington, Iowa). Guess which one my dumb-ass chose?
The one with the better story.
Well, there was one that would give you a few laughs and there was one that was pretty much engineered to get girls to weep in your arms.
I’d have gone to home alone 2 as well superior film and one of the best sequels ever made.
I went to see Dances with Wolves in a theatre in Zurich. It was subtitled in German and French. The long stretches of discussions in Sioux were subtitled in German and French.
I haven’t never seen it again and still have no idea what happened for major stretches of the movie.
I saw it an English and also didn’t know what happened for large stretches of the movie. Mostly cause it sucked.
“romantic goals”
*slow clap*
There’s a joke in there somewhere about blowing your zuzuvela.
Dropping Latin in HS seems like no big deal to me. Dropping shop classes is more significant to me. Kids with dads or moms with no mechanical abilities have no way to find out if they like building things.
Yep
I agree. But I really wanted to learn it and I wanted to have my crush help me learn the tongue. 😉
Honestly, I’d say they’re both sort of big deals. Both serious academics and useful technical skills (both, not coincidentally, rely on real competency) get squeezed out in favor of indoctrination.
I’ve always preached that the number one language in the world is computer programming. i would argue that children, from the earliest of school until they graduate the highest of schools should have annual classes on it.
We teach languages because we need to communicate with each other. In modern times, it seems the ability to communicate with various machines and gizmos is a far more useful and lucrative tool.
Don’t teach them the language, teach them the problem-solving needed to make use of the language.
There’s a subtle difference between human languages and computer languages.
Human language is a tool for communicating information, negotiating agreement, and commanding action.
Computer language has no room for negotiation.
I took Latin from 4th to 8th grade in Grammar School, and then again for four more years in High School. Semper ubi sub ubi.
when it turned out that only myself and a girl I had a major crush on, they canceled it. I blame the Pope for the failure to realize my romantic goal.
Not everybody can say he got cock-blocked by the Pope.
A billion men sporting two billion blue balls gives lie to that statement.
Besides every man that tried to sleep with a Nun. Stupid Vow of Chasity.
I’m in a desperate need for a white pill. Was watching college basketball for the first time this year, the players are playing in an empty stadium on the floor not wearing a mask than are going back to a socially distant bench where the chairs are set up staggered. We are so far removed from any semblance of rationality as a society and I just don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Also they are required to wear masks on the bench. I just can’t get over the absurdity of the theater that everyone knows is bullshit. Its so fucking demoralizing.
I play indoor soccer and have to wear a mask. On the field, where for the most part you stay relatively spaced out, masked. In the bench area, where everyone is crammed together, you can pull it down to catch your breath and take a drink.
They kept ration cards in the United Kingdom until well into the 50’s.
I said I needed a white pill festus not draino.
OK, I laughed out loud.
Read Banjo’s essay from yesterday, again. Life finds a way, always. Look around and see those incidents of awesome, not stupid fucking propaganda.
You only have one time around – see how you can live a subversive life in the midst of the fuckheads. You can do it.
White pill = go hunting, fishing and/ or camping away from anyone for a couple of weeks. Contact no one. Live. Enjoy. Breathe.
Yes.
If being President was fun, he would’ve golfed a lot less.
What could possibly be more fun than flying halfway around the world on Air Force One to play golf?
So now anything mentioning the presidency or the election on YouTube has the disclaimer “Joe Biden is the president of the United States.”. Strange, I don’t recall this in 2017 when “muh Russian collusion” was en vogue.
Hahahaha ?
There is a warehouse in downtown L.A. with some curious glasses that I may need to force you to wear.
Are interstate highways Federal land? In other words, am I expected to wear a mask in my car on the way to work?
I believe they are state property.
Of course, goodthinkful comrades will wear their masks 24/7. For great safety!
I went to the dentist this morning, and there was a guy sitting there wearing two masks and a plastic face shield over it. Seriously.
Were they aware they would need to take that shit off when the dentist gave them a cleaning?
Did you ask where is goggles were?
Did you sneeze in his general vicinity?
As a side-observation, from seeing those in the pickup line at school, I’ve noticed that the ratio of women to men wearing masks while inside their own car is a whole shitload:not very many at all.
It’s not that I haven’t seen me. Riding alone with their mask on, but the number pales in comparison.
If I got pulled over for not wearing a mask while driving I honestly don’t know how I’d react.
I dunno…if I am out on BLM shooting with my kids, do I need a mask? Its Federal land… I wanna see who has to enforce that.
Finally a little more happy news. My namesake avatar is getting his meds via unguent applied to his ears. Little shit stopped eating his food. Humans for the win! The vets were cool about it and had the prescription ready immediately. Meanwhile I’m kicking myself, why the hell didn’t you look into it sooner? Why the hell didn’t they offer that option up front?
Aww, get well speedily, little guy.
Hope he feels better soon!
Hopefully he likes having his ears unguented.
Who doesn’t?
He’s a suck. Takes all of 5 seconds. “What, you want to pet me?” Done. He is a very good boy.
Hopefully he feels better soon.
“Daxing district in southern Beijing … has been sealed off from the rest of the country after six infections were found there. The total number of cases in Beijing stands at 15,” Bloomberg News reported on January 19. Beijing is home to over 20 million people and serves as China’s political center.
Covid Cultists are jealous at China’s efficiency and effectiveness in handling Lil Rona.
But the state teachers unions — as well as San Francisco’s — have said vaccinations won’t be enough and are calling for additional measures not endorsed by public health experts as necessary for students and staff to safely return to the classroom.
The only silver lining I see from this stupidity is the possibly breaking of the teacher’s unions.
Biden’s secretary of education had paused student loan payments and put interest rate at 0%
I’m a chump for paying mine off.
The only silver lining I see from this stupidity is the possibly breaking of the teacher’s unions.
Slight chance that might have happened if Trump had won. As things stand, no chance. The feds are going to back up whatever insane demands the teachers unions make because they’re a key part of the Democratic coalition. And the insane part of it is, the rest of the coalition will look you straight in the eye and tell you that’s “The Science ™”.
In CA (or IL)? Trump could’ve been President-for-life and not a damn thing would’ve gotten better.
You’re probably right. My thought was that a federal government unwilling to subsidize subordination to the teachers’ unions might have set up a battle between the Dem unions and the Dem city government.
I think a lot of people have a dimmer view of teachers thanks to COVID than they did before. While the other people who never lost a paycheck might be in solidarity with the teachers, there’s a lot of people who are now out of work who got to see just how petty, immature, and self-centered many teachers really are.
Hey, I’ve had a few teachers who were willing to learn. I remember one in elementary school where I was able to successfuly tell them what a barb was. (The book being read in class had a part with a barbed harpoon and the teacher’s initial diagram had two forward facing points.)
I am in Broward County Florida. They are ordering teachers back to work for the most part.
A large percentage of the population seems to be what they call in the drop. The drop is the period after you are eligible for retirement.
It seems that some 300 odd teachers are announcing their retirement at this point because they do not wish to return to the classroom. About 2 to 2.5 times last year’s total.
One of the best teachers I know is on that list. In fairness, she was about burned out two years ago. This just gave her the final push. It is a shame, because she is actually a dynamo.
We got a new principal at our middle school. One of the other great teachers my kids have interacted with is apparently one of his targets. Apparently he has the woke disease and does not approve of magnet school kids getting better teachers. Or anyone getting good teachers for that matter.
Her teaching of the enlightenment was phenomenal. She had a bunch of 7th grade kids reading Locke and actually understanding and discussing the foundational philosophy of our nation. Her students consistentlyperformed at the top of the entire state in the state civics exam.
So they took all of her civics classes away from her. She’s planning on retiring. Damn shame.
Meanwhile, all of the math teachers that we had to help run off because they were incompetent are probably going to have to be rehired. The one fantastic math teacher they had apparently saw the writing on the wall and the new principal came in and transferred to a rich school out west.
Long story short, I kind of see both sides of the story. On top of that, teachers seem to be susceptible to fads. Once some idea gets started, it’s circulates through the group whether it is a good idea or a bad idea.
Birds are swimming through the air. Think about it.
British birds?
Those British birds are not always the best looking.
I only have one british bird in my gallery, but it looks fine
My favorite British bird.
That woman does not age. Seriously. She is incredible.
Yes!
I’m glad you got some good shit.
You’re just not hitting it hard enough!
A third national lockdown in England appears to have had little impact on the rising rate of coronavirus infections, according to the findings of a major study, with “no evidence of decline” in the prevalence of the virus during the first 10 days of tougher restrictions.
The closely-watched REACT-1 study, led by Imperial College London, warned that health services would remain under “extreme pressure” and the cumulative number of deaths would increase rapidly unless the prevalence of the virus in the community was reduced substantially.
Obviously, the answer is to lock down harder. Masks 24 hours a day. Maintain 10 meter separation from everyone, at all times.
Send in the army to fog the streets with a mixture of ammonia and bleach.
Does “testing” just give them whatever results they need? Obfuscation of the data and how the stats are presented seems to be key.
Meanwhile, WHO says testing is way overstating positive results. They need to coordinate their messaging better.
One hour after Biden is sworn in. They’re not even pretending any more.
It’s a Biden Miracle!
“Our data are showing worrying suggestions of a recent uptick in infections which we will continue to monitor closely,” Professor Paul Elliott, director of the program at Imperial, said in a statement.
“We all have a part to play in preventing this situation from worsening and must do our best to stay at home wherever possible,” he added.
The U.K.’s Department of Health and Social Care said the full impact of lockdown measures would not yet be reflected in the prevalence figures reported in the REACT-1 study.
“These findings show why we must not let down our guard over the weeks to come,” Health Secretary Matt Hancock said.
“It is absolutely paramount that everyone plays their part to bring down infections. This means staying at home and only going out where absolutely necessary, reducing contact with others and maintaining social distancing,” Hancock said.
Reality continues to not conform to our model. Reality is broken.
Here’s Biden not wearing a mask on federal property just hours after signing a mandate requiring masks be worn on federal property
Lol.
Not only that, his grandkids were there and took their masks off for a group photo.
Reckon there’s a pic of Kamala palming them each a 20 afterwards?
The Chicago Alderman Handshake.
I’ve also heard it called “Tipping New Jersey Style”.
“Go hug Paw-Paw. Get him to wipe your nose, too.”
Giddy adoration
Standing out next to established style icons like Michelle Obama and Lady Gaga was always going to be a tough gig. But on a day of block colors and monochromatic looks, Vice President Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, stole the fashion limelight at Wednesday’s presidential inauguration.
Her outfit — and her playful on-camera eyebrow dance — went instantly viral, leaving many excited about what the budding artist and design student might bring to the White House over the next four years.
Pace yourself, hon. You’ve got about a million miles of ass to lick, in the next few years.
You gotta hope that HM is cashing in on the wave of ass eating. Advanced seminars, TED talks, personal instruction.
Melania was literally a model and all she did was get shit on by the media.
Ahem! Porn Star Scum!
Hoooor!
Let us praise Him
The devastating fall and winter wave of coronavirus infections that is causing so much misery across the U.S. appears to have finally peaked, according to several researchers who are closely tracking the virus.
While another surge remains possible, especially with new, more infectious variants on the horizon, the number of new daily infections in the current wave appears to have hit a high in the past week or two and has been steadily declining in most states since, the researchers say.
“Yes, we have peaked in terms of cases,” says Ali Mokdad, who has been tracking the pandemic at the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. “We are coming down, slowly. This is very good news — very good news.”
And while hospitals in some places are still being overwhelmed, the overall number of hospitalized patients also appears to have reached a peak and begun to decline slightly. It’s down from a peak of over 132,000 patients on Jan. 6 to 122,700 as of Wednesday.
Declines in daily deaths could soon follow, experts say.
“Based on current trends, the worst appears to be over,” says Caitlin Rivers, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. “We are headed to a better place.”
The plague begins to fizzle out, on inauguration day. That’s something I never expected to see.
Miraculous Joe. That’s what we should call Him.
Is that like a white chocolate jesus?
And not everyone is ready to declare the pandemic has peaked.
“CDC scientists would not be comfortable saying the outbreak has peaked until there have been several weeks of decline in newly reported cases,” CDC spokesman Jason McDonald wrote in an email.
Others warn that the virus could surge again for several reasons, including the sluggish vaccination campaign failing to ramp up and people relaxing the precautions they are taking.
“Often what we see is a sort of cyclical pattern where things worsen and so people stay home more. They are more vigilant about wearing masks. They skip the restaurants or the get-togethers,” Rivers says. “But as things improve people relax a little bit and incorporate some of those risky behaviors again and things can again accelerate.”
Things are getting better? Well, not really.
Don’t pretend they’re going to take the boot off your neck anytime soon.
Often what we see is a sort of cyclical pattern
Indeed. The rest is utter bullshit, as there is zero correlation across the dataset between any kind of mandate and the rate of
infectionpositive tests. Its almost like this virus acts like every other virus in history, and we can’t do a damn thing about it short of vaccination. But, but, China! New Zealand!
No, I think the boot will be taken off so that Biden can get credit for reviving the economy and getting it back to normal. It will be largely unseen and unreported measures that will keep the boot on our necks for non-chicomvirus issues.
No howls from the rafters on Biden canning the NLRB General Counsel…guess its okay to fire again.
https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/rick-moran/2021/01/21/day-one-biden-fires-trump-appointed-nlrb-general-counsel-first-one-forced-out-in-decades-n1400443
The AFL-CIO has to be the single most parasitic non-governmental organization in this country. But the Democrats love them as a reliable source of funds and they love the Democrats as a reliable source of political connections.
Why do you hate workers?
I wonder how many unionized workers are actually working class anymore. I’d bet that the percentage of dues-paying members who are bougies (most with college degrees) has got be over 30% by now.
The more I think about it, the more I think 30% is a serious underestimate. Teachers, many categories of office workers, most direct government employees, and a number of other white-collar workers comprise a significant share of union members nowadays. It might even be that the case that actual working class union members are the ones at 30% (or less).
I was in a union when I worked ~15 hours a week at a movie theater as a popcorn jockey for a summer
From the BLS:
“The union membership rate of public-sector workers (33.6 percent) continued to be more than
five times higher than the rate of private-sector workers (6.2 percent). (See table 3.) ”
The whole “union worker” thing is just another leftist lie. I’d be willing to bet that private sector union workers vote the same as non union private sector workers in their demographic. I bet the white male UAW guys vote about the same as white male blue collar workers do.
The public sector is where the unions are, and thats because the public sector unions are a giant pipeline of campaign funds to the Dems. The reason we are so incredibly fucked is the Democrats have established a system where huge amounts of their campaign cash comes, after being laundered, from the taxpayers.
Your property taxes go to funding loyal Dem foot soliders in the teachers union, who get Election Day off to GOTV after they spend all fall telling your 18 year old kid why Democrats are awesome, and that teachers union dues go right to a Dem campaign fund or super PAC.
A diehard Republican voter spends 40% of his income on funding the Democratic Party every year.
A diehard Republican voter spends 40% of his income on funding the Democratic Party every year.
Well, like 2% of that 40% goes to funding roads and sewers and firefighting, though of course 80% of that is likely sucked up by diversity quotas, environmental impact assessments, 18 different layers of government agencies and contractors with redundant bureaucracy, and just plain waste.
guess its okay to fire again.
De-Nazification.
I wonder how many unionized workers are actually working class anymore. I’d bet that the percentage of dues-paying members who are bougies (most with college degrees) has got be over 30% by now.
If I recall correctly, a large majority of union workers are government employees.
You beat me to it. The number of people who actually “need” a union (so they don’t get killed or maimed, and they have solid insurance in case they do) is way less than the number of people who have a union.
And the Venn Diagram of people who have a Union and people who need a Union barely overlaps.
My wife has one payment left on her student loan from getting her MBA. One payment that has been suspended since COVID lockdowns started in March.
It’s going to be a huge benefit when that last payment is forgiven by Biden.
That’s real cool. I paid for myself, my kids, and one of the grandkids. Now I get to pay for your wife. Any “benefits” come with that?
The whole “union worker” thing is just another leftist lie.
A corollary to that lie, which sends me into a stuttering rage, is the Democrats’ redefinition of middle class as union wage ape.
Once upon a time, I believe, the middle class was in large part composed of entrepreneurial self employed people who created businesses and provided goods and services. They make that harder to do, every day.
Yep. The middle class is defined as workers at government or Big Corp Inc.
I live in one side of a duplex. Its a small old house. My landlord bought it fresh out of college, lived in one side and rented the other out. Thus making him a filthy capitalist with a gross income of 60k, while a noble suffering middle class school teacher whos slaved away for 15 years only makes pittance of 68k.

Listening to a work-related webcast. One of the presenters is “Jim Olsen”.
Trying to not crack daily planet jokes.
When Joe Biden says “rebuild the middle class” he means forcible unionization in the private sector.
At least the Federal Reserve will get to talk about the inflation they’re so desperate for.
