“Just a matter of time before there are only 3 companies left in the world.”
I’m thinking there is actually room for 4 if they are the right type of woke Marxist company.
Minnesoda’s Dept of Revenue overvalued the value of the property Enbridge ran their pipeline through. Courts have ruled, appeals have been denied, local govts owe Enbridge a $30M refund. The local govts have already spent that money and are small and poor and don’t know how they will ever pay it back.
The real bad guy in the story is the Dept of Revenue who valuated the land for the local govts. Turns out they were wrong, wrong, wrong. Now the small counties and townships are squealing to be bailed out by the state. I doubt that will happen because a) all the power is in the metro area and b) no way the progressives are going to cough up money to make a pipeline company whole.
With interest, Kyle Holmes, the Carlton County Assessor, said Thursday their expected bill including 2012 is $3.1 million (including the state’s portion). That’s worth about 10 percent of the county’s annual levy. He said he didn’t know how much just the 2012 portion of the county’s bill was worth. It was reduced by a lower amount than other years, but has also collected more interest.
“By mid-July we’re going to owe money,” Holmes said.
Holmes said the county has already had to pay refunds or other costs in eight similar tax utility cases worth about $1 million over the last few years and said the Enbridge bill would make their reserves perilously low.
Hmmmm…. You’ve overcharged at least 8 other groups and had to kick back refunds. Maybe you should have cut spending years ago?
R C Dean
on May 28, 2021 at 4:28 pm
I run into a similar situation from time to time. My universal response is:
“We’re only asking for the money that we overpaid you back. If you spent it on something, that’s a you problem. Fuck you, pay me.*”
So these counties and townships may have to issue bonds to raise what they owe? Boo. Fucking. Hoo.
*Alright, I don’t actually say this part out loud.

Idaho Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin, acting as governor on Thursday in Gov. Brad Little’s absence, issued an executive order banning the mask mandates that remain based on the COVID-19 pandemic.
McGeachin announced the order on social media Thursday morning.
“Today, as acting governor of the state of Idaho, I signed an executive order to protect the rights and liberties of individuals and businesses by prohibiting the state and its political subdivisions — including public schools — from imposing mask mandates in our state,” McGeachin wrote.
Marissa Morrison, a spokesperson for Little, told the Idaho Statesman that the governor “has been out of state this week collaborating with other Republican governors.” The Associated Press reported that Little is in Nashville, Tennessee, at a Republican Governors Association conference.

Story is about how cool and good progressives in Minnesoda are because they have joined Buy Nothing groups. I love the idea of re-using stuff and not just tossing stuff. I list lots of things on Craigslist for free just so it finds a new home. But I do it without needing to turn it into some self-masturbatory thing where I proclaim how noble I am.
On the surface, a Buy Nothing group may seem like a combination of garage sale, Nextdoor neighborhood page and Goodwill store. But it doesn’t take long to discover that “buying nothing” goes deeper, turning faceless newsfeed names into real-life neighbors.
“Items and skills that are passed between people are tokens of relationships,” says Rebecca Rockefeller, the movement’s co-founder along with Liesl Clark. “If all you come in to do is get rid of stuff, you’re suddenly put into relationships with your neighbors and start feeling like you have meaning within your community.”

I’m hoping to check out a Farmer’s Market in a suburb a bit south of me tomorrow, a bike ride up for Brunch Sunday morning, and a trip to a rib cook out on Monday.

We’re going to miss the first Farmers’ Market of the season a couple of blocks from our house – THAT’S the weekend we’re going up to Maumee Bay State Park to stay in the lodge for a slightly-belated anniversary getaway!

I’m sure they said “2 to 4 hours,” so you should be fine. 😉
Afternoon Glibs!!
22 minutes to beer:30 and a 72!
On my 2nd 16.9 oz can… I mean PINT. Slacker!
Still in my office, but cracked a fresh M-43.
In my office as well, been here all day. And I actually am wearing pants today.
My kids crack up at my zoom formal – shirt, tie, shorts, and flip flops.
I typically don’t even put the shirt on until there’s a Zoom meeting, but today I felt extra committed and actually donned pants.
Still in my office, but cracked a fresh M-43.

Is that Brit speak for take out? Why can’t they speak English?
The Norwegians learn Norwegian, the Greeks are taught their Greek?
From the neighbourhood chip shop. Don’t forget to order the chips “madras.”
Drenched in vodka, orange, and cranberry?
Or wrapped in thin cotton plaid fabric?
Many chip shops are owned by south asians and serve curry fries (yum). “Madras” is UK “hot,” about equal to what you’d get if you ordered mildly spiced in a respectable south asian restaurant in the US.
Brits and Yankees, two peoples separated by a common language.
Good afternoon everyone! The end of the work week is closing fast, and it couldn’t come soon enough. Hope you all have something nice planned.
Not a huge King Shark fan — though as a Firestorm fan, did appreciate his interaction with Killer Frost in what’s probably the best Suicide Squad movie to date.
Other than that — I got nothing. Y’all have a pleasant Memorial Day weekend.
The fact that the live action Flash on the CW managed to bring both a live action Gorilla Grod and a live action King Shark is awesome. The fact that the show has gone to shite is just sad.
I think I’ve isolated the problem.
The Bee absolutely nails why we love the Republican Party so much.
If we didn’t laugh, we would weep….
Wow, this place is dead. I hope everyone is getting their holiday weekend on, and able to enjoy it mask-free (goalies, spray painters, welders, and highwaymen excepted).
Scuba divers hit hardest.
Charts of Accounts revel in their liberation!
Scuba divers also must be worried that if they flash the dive master the approved “I’m doing ok” signal while 80 feet down, they will be accused of making a white supremacist gesture.
What if I’m not a goalie, but wear a goalie mask? Those promiscuous pot-smoking teenagers by the lake have it coming.

Crap. Thanks.
Not a problem, I tried to find a clip from Duckman to add more levity to it, but too hard to find (especially since it was already a Star Trek spoof).
But Kevin Bacon is in the first Friday the 13th, and Nightmare on Elm Street gave Johnny Depp his first movie role.
Obvs, I’m not a slasher film fan. Although I do appreciate that it was one of the things that gave us the holy Steadicam.
Goalie or not, why not change your pads more than every three periods?
A combo platter of construction and an accident has turned the main interstate out of town into a shitshow.
When I went over the bridge it was already backed way up and was creeping forward (with 20 miles to go). My prediction is a lot of kids are gonna get whacked by dads who have been pushed beyond their patience.

“Senate Republicans tanked the House-passed bill that would create a 9/11-style commission to investigate the January 6 Capitol attack.
Democrats were unable to override a Republican filibuster placed on the bill during a Friday vote of 54 to 35, with 60 votes needed.
Republican Sens. Mitt Romney, Susan Collins, Bill Cassidy, Lisa Murkowski, Rob Portman and Ben Sasse voted alongside 48 Democrats. All except Portman had voted for the second impeachment of former President Donald Trump, which was over his role in inciting the January 6 insurrection.”

Wouldn’t a commission expose some facts? The truth can’t be worse for Republicans than the narrative.
FTFY.
Yeah. Consider who would run it.
That’s one of the arguments that Cassidy made, but either way the Republicans would be screwed. The media will only cover what they want to cover.
Wouldn’t a commission expose some facts?
I do like me some deadpan humor.
Even if they were completely partisan, they are also incompetent enough to expose things inadvertently. There is just too much to hide.
Peaches on pizza?
Even better.

That looks nummy to me. I have to try it!
Grilled peaches and gorgonzola dolce. Then after baking, top with arugula. Seriously excellent.
That does sound good.
I love the peaches and piggies pizza from Vocelli. It’s actually quite good as toppings go. Their crust is OK for delivery.
We should invite her to the next Minnesoda Glibs meetup. The story is about a neighborhood crazy lady who bugs the shit our of her neighbors being in trouble for violating her terms of probation.
Reading the story, the woman seems like an absolutely horrible person, but I’m not sure about how they convicted her of some of these things. A judge ordered that she be banned from video taping her neighbors. Even though she did it all from her own yard. Not sure how that passed muster.
And to prove that the biggest monster in the story is the real estate agent:
I love the fact that the agent is pissed because they won’t be getting a commission. No compunction at all about selling a house located next to a crazy loon to someone at all.
“She slapped her butt in front of him as he drove away”
I find her interesting. Has anyone sent her a Glib invite yet?
I’m sure Tundra has been hiding out in the bushes behind her house. I guess he needs to escalate to the next level and leave her some mash notes composed of letters cut out of magazines.
Is it legal to video people on private property against their wishes? I’d think at some point it crosses into into harassment or even stalking.
As I’m reading this, all I can think is “if this were a dude, punches would have been traded long ago”.
In fact, I encourage my clients to have them – occasionally.

I like that Mask Burning Party.
I’m not sure if I’ll join the Zoom tonight. Definitely not tomorrow night as I’ll be out. Thanks for running them.
I am returning to the office next week which means more muzzling up than I have done in the last year.
Sorry if I don’t feel like celebrating.
Are they gonna actually make you muzzle up in the office? No wiggle room on that?
Everywhere except at my desk – which is a gift I wasn’t expecting.

Hey Glibs! You have some BidenBucks burning a hole in your pocket, and some mechanical ability?
Well, some really cool potential resto-mods are yours for the taking.
Can I mount some ghost machine guns on that?
Please, please, someone buy that -17 and get it flying…
The FBO down the ramp from where I work was restoring Paul Allen’s ME262 when he died, and no one was really sure what to do with it. They just rolled it from one hangar to the other earlier this week and I managed to get some pictures. Apparently they are pulling the wings and sticking it in a conex to ship back. It’s a shame too, I believe it was nearly in flying condition… and with the original engines.
That would have been cool, where is it going back to?
I think back to his Airplane and Armor Museum. I really hope to see it fly some day. I don’t know if it’s true, but a few mechanics have told me that the original engines had an 80 hour time between overhaul, and they had no plans to replace them with a modern engine that would fit in the nacelles. Of course I don’t see any reason to believe anything a mechanic says… ever.
I seem to recall reading it was just 30 hrs of flight time between engine overhaul when the plane was just entering service (1944?)..
They should sell it to Blue Öyster Cult.
“Just a matter of time before there are only 3 companies left in the world.”

Won’t someone think of the
childrengovt bureaucrats?Minnesoda’s Dept of Revenue overvalued the value of the property Enbridge ran their pipeline through.
Hmmmm…. You’ve overcharged at least 8 other groups and had to kick back refunds. Maybe you should have cut spending years ago?
I run into a similar situation from time to time. My universal response is:
“We’re only asking for the money that we overpaid you back. If you spent it on something, that’s a you problem. Fuck you, pay me.*”
So these counties and townships may have to issue bonds to raise what they owe? Boo. Fucking. Hoo.
*Alright, I don’t actually say this part out loud.
Wife and I are meeting friends and – drumroll, please – eating inside a restaurant tonight.
She’s unclenching, slowly. TBF, pandemics have to be worst-case for germaphobes.

I would think that it was like heaven for them. Used to work with a guy who was always doing something weird to avoid touching doors after washing his hands.
Why not just keep the last paper towel and use it on the handle?
Those air-dryers fucked up his life.
But they “prevent chapping”!
Is that assless chapping?
I cannot lie — I would love a Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer in each of my bathrooms, plus the kitchen. Those things are teh awse.
They need somewhere for the water to go.
These anecdotes are amazing to read for me – I haven’t worn a mask in a business in my hometown throughout the entire last year – the bars and restaurants chose to go back to their normal business hours as soon as Gianforte won the (MT Governor) election.
It’s crazy to me to think that people in other parts of the country still can’t go out and are still wearing the masks everywhere.
Like watching China on tv in February 2020.
There hasn’t been an outdoor mask mandate for weeks now (not like I followed it before) – tons of people still wearing masks outside.

Made crab cakes earlier and scoffed at the sodium-free seasoning the recipe calls for. Typical health consciousness hypersensitivity, it’s not enough that the recipe is low-carb or paleo or fat-free or whatever, you also have to use 2% milk, certified gluten-free vinegar, free-range chicken eggs, and of course low-sodium seasoning.
Didn’t think to check how loaded with salt canned crab meat is. Oops.

BWAHAhahahahahahaha – what fucking idjit is paying for that? Want to know what kosher vinegar is – pay the rabbi and voila! This vinegar is made from gluten-free grapes!!!

Chevron is running commercials on Fox News about how they’re reducing their carbon footprint.
That’s an odd way of saying they’re producing less gas.
I have never seen so many tedious virtue-signaling commercials before current year. Every other commercial is woke in some way now.
I haven’t watched TV in so long, I kind of forget what commercials are like.

You mean, our Labor and Delivery, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric, and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit beds will fill up with Alzheimer’s patients?
No one showed up for the Alzheimer Family Reunion
Awesome – so I’m guessing the first thing he will do is prohibit requiring a Certificate of Need so as to help let markets fix this right?
I thought the vaccines would fix this problem.
I can’t take him seriously unless he offs himself.
Why would they need to be in hospital beds? Their condition is rarely acute. Most dementia sufferers can do just fine in memory care nursing homes.
Excellent point. Alzheimers alone doesn’t really wind up in an inpatient bed (we do have a unit which takes them as temporary behavioral health patients to stabilize them). We have far more Alzheimers sufferers in our hospice program than anywhere else.

Idaho Lt.
McGeachin last week announced a gubernatorial campaign. Though Little has not yet announced whether he intends to run for reelection, if he does, this will mark just the second time in state history that a sitting lieutenant governor has challenged the incumbent governor of the same party.
Dave Adler, an Idaho Falls-based political analyst, said the executive order was “a shot across the bow” at Little.

How come progressives are so good at antagonizing me even when we agree on stuff?
Story is about how cool and good progressives in Minnesoda are because they have joined Buy Nothing groups. I love the idea of re-using stuff and not just tossing stuff. I list lots of things on Craigslist for free just so it finds a new home. But I do it without needing to turn it into some self-masturbatory thing where I proclaim how noble I am.
Spare me. I want to get rid of stuff.
Progs are hollow inside and are constantly trying to fill it with self-congratulatory validation prostitution. They can’t take a shit without turning it into a “justice movement”.
Me, tomorrow morning:
“Man, that justice movement was a double-flusher! Ima leave the door closed for a while.”
Makes me want to go impulse buying at Costco.
Tell them the government should buy nothing, too.
Last week we had a nice little vacation in Asheville.
Notes: EF was packing a swimsuit for the hot tub. I picked it up and threw it back in the dresser. “It’s a private hot tub at the place we’re renting. You won’t need a swimsuit.” Some peeps are apparently prudes at heart 😉
An Audi A3 Quattro can knock off 36mpg on the flats of Ohio, something like 32mpg in the mountains. Impressed considering the performance doesn’t lag that far behind the departed (sold) Mustang.
Speaking of the Mustang – I bought it with 26k miles, almost not quite years ago, for $16k+ change. At 38K miles the The Porsche/Audi dealership gave us $14k in trade and is currently selling it for $19.1K. WTF?
Mountains were awesome, as was our VRBO, but the driver there – 12 hours! – was too long for these old bones. We did a bunch of thrift and antique shopping, ate out a lot, and also just enjoyed some drunken nights.
Asheville was nice to visit. I liked the beer bus tour I went on.
It’s good you had a good time.
Mustang sold not quite three years ago.
*argh* bought
Bought my 2018 Honda Accord for 26k brand new. Traded it in with 13k miles for $21k they have it listed for $26.5k…
The car lots around here look like they’re going out of business. I think I saw more trucks with dealer livery than ones for sale.
Chalk that up to the supply chain issues.
It’s made values in the used market skyrocket.
Didn’t realize you sold the Mustang. Enjoy the new ride!
Hopefully it’s got some warranty as I’m not a fan of VW reliability. Good designs from a use perspective, just built like all the new German stuff to be difficult to service.
Makes one yearn for the MB124 platform.
Yeah I.m kind of cringing at a VW product – it seems you either get a good one or a lemon. But EF needed something that wasn’t a crossover, had AWD, and had a little snob appeal. Audi it was.
Does it have an oil dipstick?
And miraculously if yes and torque converter automatic does the transmission have one as well?
I’d like to thank BMW for making this popular.
We have a 2020 Atlas 20k miles. Been in the shop 4 times already, 3 of the 4 for repairs that would have been over $1000 if it wasn’t still under warranty. We’re trying to get them to buy it back. Stay away from VW.
I spent an hour drilling pop rivets out of my A4’s driver door to replace my window glass regulator and decided it was the last new German car I planned to buy.
I’m lucky I was able to get my new (to me) car when I did. $19K for a 2017 Chevy Equinox.
“Speaking of the Mustang – I bought it with 26k miles, almost not quite years ago, for $16k+ change. At 38K miles the The Porsche/Audi dealership gave us $14k in trade ”
That’s awesome.
WTF?
Used car market is fucked up.
New Chrysler Pacific Hybrid with most the bells and whistles: listed at $43,000 after tax credit.
Used 2020 at the same dealer with practically the same bells and whistles and 33k miles: listed at $42,990 (no tax credit)
That was one of the reasons I bought a 21 Tacoma before the end of the last year. Those trucks do really hold their retail value a lot, but it was ridiculous (although not quite what you just wrote). But why would I spend 4–6k less on a vehicle that is 2-3 years used and has a bunch of miles on it? There were absolutely no even slight deals on a lightly used one.
We bought our Jeep with 0% financing and were able to roll a bunch of higher interest loan into it. Couldn’t turn that down.
I had a 2016 A3. I liked it. Launched nicely off the line.
The GTI is more fun though.
I do miss quattro in the snow.
Quattro in the snow? How in the hell did you talk the girlfriend into that?
Yes, I am a prude at times. What was I thinking? that there was no privacy from the fence – perhaps. Or that a small barrier might add to the excitement of the hot tub – yes, perhaps.
Hmm, I’m sure it’s been mentioned here, but now an Australian paper has come out with quotes from Fauci that he supported gain of function research even if it lead to a pandemic. Hope that the demented health elf is going to get defenestrated. Sure looks like the media has finally started to turn on his ass.
https://nypost.com/2021/05/28/fauci-once-argued-viral-experiments-worth-the-risk-of-pandemic/
He should be defenestrated right into a woodchipper.
Hi, Preet!
How is it Preet hasn’t been recycled like every other piece of shit from the Obama admin?
“Only Biden has the scientific knowledge and courage to expose Fauci the Fraud, who was foisted on the American people by Donald Trump.”
Heheh. I won’t be surprised if it is framed like that. I’ll even take that if it gets rid of the slimy fucker.
Sununu extends state of emergency for only 14 days, not the 21 days like he has in the past.
“Granite Staters have managed through this pandemic incredibly well, and as a result of their hard work, New Hampshire has no commercial restrictions in place, no statewide mask mandate, and is open for business,” said Gov. Sununu. “Today’s action to renew the State of Emergency allows the legislature to take up our various critical emergency orders that have brought flexibility to manage through this pandemic, and I call on the House and Senate to move swiftly in this charge so that we can move out of a State of Emergency as quickly as possible.”
NH had been on my summer vacation list. I was looking forward to that train ride through Crawford Notch. I wonder how many other tourists have now crossed NH off their lists?
NH is the least restrictive New England state at this time. Sununu has been pushing NH as a vacation destination this summer.
Would a law against having multiple familial generations enter politics be constitutional?
I am unaware of any Constitutionally guaranteed right to run for office.
Well, explicitly guaranteed in the “official” Constitution. I’m sure a penumbra or emanation can be found.
The problem is people – they like them some pseudo-aristocratic blood. The argument is – why should those people vote?
Downside (at least as far as I’m concerned): We’d lose Rand.
Credit to him – he did not run for Daddy’s seat, or even in the same damn state.
I like how his dad calls him Randy.
In this southern place in which I live in this shit is so over it isn’t even noticeable anymore. Hopefully your gov will lose his authority boner soon.
Our next door neighbors – who were retired – moved out. And a new couple with a toddler moved in. Needless to say the noise level has increased quite a bit.
That, and with the power company chopping away at the trees on the back of the property line, my house doesn’t feel as private as it used to. Time to build a fence.
Cost of lumber and all…
My nearest neighbor is getting a portable saw mill, came by a couple days ago to tell me. I told him we can’t hear anyway so no problem with us. The neighbors are good, younger but don’t bother anyone. He only plans to saw his own stuff, maybe a little for others.
That could be a nice earner for him, especially if you have good hardwoods in the area. Milling oak, cherry, walnut, etc. for furniture ought to pay decent.
A little oak and birch, mostly pine. He said he couldn’t find a used mill, he called a couple older guys but they weren’t in the market to sell. Probably the price of lumber has encouraged them to stick around a while.
You’re goddamned right it is tradition! Not that I own any guns. But you know for you other people it is tradition.
