I got nothing except this “publish immediately” button and a recycled stock illo (thanks, KK).

[STEVE SMITH published actual links a few moments after this was published. Please move any new business to that thread. I’ll leave this open for any discussions which were started here. -T]

Is that the new pride flag?

    • Endless Mike

      It’s the new “cancelled” flag

    • Tonio

      It’s a flag of shame.

    4 miles, 90 minutes.

Had to go for a walk to calm down. I was getting angry at vendors. It was not good for my health.

    Anyway, I’m back.

    • Gender Traitor

      Are you calm?

Is it the dog days of summer yet? It feels hot enough to be the dog days of summer.

    • Tonio

      Technically not Summer, yet.

    • Animal

Up here in the Great Land, it’s the mosquito days of summer.

You can’t have spicy legal takes on CNN without him: Jeffrey Toobin is back at CNN eight months after exposing himself on Zoom

Toobin said he has spent his “miserable months” off-air “trying to be a better person.”

He mentioned “therapy;” public service like working a food bank; and a forthcoming book about the Oklahoma City bombing.

    CNN’s writing is hysterical.

    • The Other Kevin

He’s ready to be on-air again and have more public exposure.

    • OBJ FRANKELSON

That guy is a shitstain, but he works at CNN so I am sure he fits right in.

      • Bobarian LMD

One off, because he’s getting older and doing two in row is too much to expect?

    • Bobarian LMD

Probably got some classes on how to turn off his camera on his laptop, too.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Big mistake: Once a Zoom call tugeroffer, always a Zoom call tugeroffer.

As the old saw goes, I’ve framed a house but no one calls me a carpenter, I have fixed a sink and nobody calls me a plumber, but you suck one dick…

I have this friend who asked, I believe sincerely “what’s the difference between the ‘left’ and the ‘right.'”

Are there any reasonably unbiased works I could recommend to him? Preferably written in a very ‘accessible’ fashion.

    • Bobarian LMD

Anything that was written more than few years ago would be completely wrong.

      • Ask your doctor if BEAM is right for you

        ^^THIS.

Unless your friend is into the history of those two points in the American political cloud.

    • trshmnstr the terrible

Economics in one lesson? Not exactly unbiased, but it’s accessible and highlights why the left isn’t right.

A memo from my congress critter just hit my e-mail:

    COVID-19 Disaster Declaration Terminated

Responding to the will of the voters, I voted with the majority of my House colleagues this week in support of a resolution to fully terminate the governor’s COVID-19 disaster emergency declaration. The measure was also approved by the Senate Thursday and is effective immediately. The termination brings to a close the governor’s ability to tell private businesses if they can stay open or how many people they can have walk through their doors. It also ends his ability to command people to stay at home. The COVID-19 disaster emergency declaration has been in place since March 6, 2020, and has been renewed five times. At the May 18 primary election, a majority of voters supported amending the state Constitution to limit the duration of a governor’s emergency declaration without input of the General Assembly and to authorize the Legislature to terminate (or extend) a governor’s emergency declaration by majority vote and without the governor’s signature. With the emergency declaration behind us, we are focused on reviewing the hundreds of regulations that have been waived or suspended during the pandemic. We passed legislation to keep those regulatory suspensions in place through no later than Sept. 30 so things like fully reimbursable telehealth appointments and cocktails-to-go from area restaurants will remain in effect while we determine what changes should be made permanent.

    Just thought I’d share.

    • Tonio

Thanks. Sounds more like your state representative.

      • Sean

Correct. Sorry for the confusing wording.

Just when I thought I was finally caught up, there’s a surprise 130+ comment thread right after this one.

A lurkers job is never done.

Been a busy month, I worked pretty much all but 2 days the last month, and with our first baby coming soon, the amount of freedom I have is approaching zero. So forgive me for bringing up a few days old dead thread:

Bummed I keep missing the Ozy China escapade threads. Ozy if you read this, be sure to try the beggars chicken and the Sweet and Sour West Lake Fish (西湖醋鱼), both are dishes native to huangzhou. I wish I could remember the restaurants name, but its outside the Hilton somewhere. They also had this super thin pork pyramid thing that was awesome. I also cannot recommend Haidilao enough. It’s a chain, but its still the best hotpot.

Craziest dish I had there was a Lobster they decapitated, opened the tail and shredded thr meat and spritzed with lemon juice. They then proceeded to serve it on a bed of ice with the still watching head placed right in the middle. Poor guy had to watch us devour his still twitching corpse. It was delicious.
