I can’t drawer

‘Draw me like one of your Tulpas’ she says. But I can’t draw, I just do high-tech tracing. This was a Patreon exclusive, but they had their chance. Here is a look at how I ‘draw’ new characters. (My PC was being buggy that day, so it took longer than expected)

    That’s pretty cool

    • hayeksplosives

And you could have seen the sneak peek a couple of weeks ago if you were a high-tier Patron of CPRM on PATREON.

      (Not a paid shill)

      • rhywun

Hang on… did he draw you?!

      • hayeksplosives

I sure as hell hope not!! Lol

      • rhywun

Oh. My guess was based on CP’s intro above.

        That’s KK’s tagline

    • blackjack

Well, after they let a bunch sneak in over here, we’ll start seeing Talibantifa at all of the protests.

      • Fourscore

Sneak in? Hell, the welcome mat seems to be spread pretty wide down south.

      • blackjack

Amazing how little it took, idinit?

      • limey

Remember when a man named Aaron ‘Jay Bishop’ Danielson was hunted down and murdered execution style by Ant**a and then the shooter died in a “shootout” with the feds? Tie up all loose ends. That just occurred to me because, you know, people being murdered by mobs of fanatical extremists. The Taliban aren’t screaming provo-prop sociopaths, though, they’re hardcore terrorists. There’s a very important distinction.

      • Gustave Lytton

Hardcore terrorists or savage religious nationalists?

      • rhywun

Yeah, I wonder about that too. From my extremely limited rememberings, they just harbor terrorists.

      • kinnath

        savage religious nationalists

Who provided aid and comfort to the terrorists that attacked the US two decades ago.

      • Gustave Lytton

And if we had turned Afghanistan into a glass parking lot twenty years ago, it would have been justified. If they threaten the US or aid those who will or have attacked us, make it rain hell on them.

The Taliban are savage and cruel and not our responsibility. We do have a responsibility, imo, to those who aided us and our own citizens. All of which should be speedily removed from there if they wish to do so.

      • Mojeaux

One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.

      • Loveconstitution1789

The founders werent throwing gays off Indepenence Hall or trying to overthrow King Louis.

Some terrorists are simply terrorists and some freedom fighters are simply freedom fighters.

      • Mojeaux

My point is that it’s not up to us to decide that those guys aren’t freedom fighters to their own people. It doesn’t matter what we think. It matters what they think.

Every villain is the hero of his own story.

      • db

It hardly counts as repetition if the first part is implied by the second. More like foreshadowing?

  3. trshmnstr the terrible

That looks like a lot of fun! I really want to give it a try now.

    • db

The animation part has to be harder than it looks, but it obviously takes a lot of care just to draw up the basis of the character in the first place.

    • rhywun

Heh, I had the opposite reaction. It looks like soul-crushing tedium to me. But I appreciate his effort!

      • Chipping Pioneer

Why can’t you both be right? Soothing repetition for an autist, yet an incredible amount of work to produce the final result.

      • rhywun

Yeah, I do lots of stuff for a living that would be soul-crushing tedium to many. But it’s in my wheelhouse.

    • blackjack

I made a logo for my 1st shop in Paintshop pro. It took me all week. I had shitty pointing devices and equipment, though. And, I had to learn as I did it. I still have one shirt left from that batch.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

I’ve done a few different projects in GIMP over the years. Everything from cleaning up poorly scanned documents to touching up photographs to making assets for a website. I’ve never gotten very good at it, at least not good enough to make a living, but I did all the announcements and programs for my wedding and my wife is still married to me, so I can’t suck too badly.

      • blackjack

I did mine in 1999. The mouse I used sucked badly. Pointing devices really help a bunch. Later, I got a high quality trackball and it was way easier.

      • rhywun

I did a couple custom desktop backgrounds which involved plopping a digit on each one – that’s the extent of my GIMP-fu.

I like vector graphics a lot more.

  8. Fourscore

I’m really impressed, CP. You make it look so easy. Folks like me don’t realize there are tools out there that allow that to happen. I’m still in the old school where an 8 minute animated cartoon was drawn frame-by-frame with several different animators and took weeks or months to make.

Thanks for clearing this up but I’m still impressed.

  9. Gustave Lytton

      • hayeksplosives

He is off his nut. Full blown alien conspiracy theorist. I had the joy of sitting behind him in First Class on a flight to DC once (after his term was up and he was living in Mexico).

        Dude is all-in Paranoid.

      • KSuellington

I once stored the sea kayak I was borrowing at his house in Mexico (he wasn’t there at the time and the caretaker of the house we were renting also watched his house). His house there is in a pretty damn remote location. It is about an hour drive on a dirt road to the nearest store or anything really. He may have seen the aliens land somewhere around there.

      • creech

I was on an Amtrak train to Washington D.C. once and these two guys in front of me were arguing whose profession was oldest. The one, a minister, claimed his was older because God ministered to Adam and Eve from the beginning. The other, an engineer, argued that his procession was older because God used engineering principles to create the earth out of the chaos. Suddenly, Senator Biden leaned across the aisle and said “And who do you think created the chaos?”

  11. commodious spittoon

    I bought something.

I’ve got it installed alongside my air-cooled Skylake era i5 and cherry-red sticks of 2133 RAM while I mull over the parts list of my future build. Like a big lift kit on a Ford Escort.

I’m glad I’m not THAT into gaming. Easier on the wallet. (Looking at the 3060 for my next PC. Supposed to be the better bang for the buck.)

      • commodious spittoon

I figure if I amortize it across the several years it’ll be excellent to at least decent… and then divide that by months… and again by days… it’s hardly anything at all. Like feeding orphan children in the Congo.

      • rhywun

Actually, I’d settle for anything really. My current card – GTX 950M – is so weak it’s not even on the list. Plus it’s mobile which means I have two GPU’s and Windows is so stupid it often tries to play my games on the even weaker Intel integrated graphics.

I’m not a hard-core gamer but I’m at the point where even casual games released in current year struggle.

  12. Tulip

The neck part was kinda creepy until I figured out what was going on. A new appreciation for animators.

    • MikeS

That is more than a little enraging.

      • Mojeaux

Just went through the trial-by-fire of buying a new printer. Settled on Brother, which isn’t great about their ink, but not as bad as HP. My fight with the HP (new old stock) was crazy-making.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

        *starts to say something*
        *bites tongue*

Nah, I can’t. I’d dox myself way too thoroughly. Let’s just say that I may know some of the people who drive the IP strategy on the ink.

      • MikeS

Next strategy meeting, please be sure to give them this from me

        ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

      • trshmnstr the terrible

Nah, I don’t work at HP. The relationship is somewhat less direct than that, but not by too much.

      • MikeS

We just bought one a couple weeks ago and settled on Epson. Dodged a bullet I guess. (I hope) The last Epson we had (a couple printers ago) would shut you down if you ran out of any color. Couldn’t even print with just black if cyan was empty. But it had great print quality and really good scanning features.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

I have a Canon color laser that forces you to click through a screen to print after the cartridges age out. Never mind that they’re all 60% full, “parts beyond lifetime” throws an irreconcilable error that must be resolved by pushing a physical button on the device.

      • Mojeaux

Yes, my son bought a cheap Epson just to scan things and was quite shocked when it wouldn’t work at all if it had no ink.

I have bought knock-off ink for years, but I’m convinced that was what broke my HP (forced an update), so they got me. No more knock-off ink, but at least I don’t have to buy HP’s.

      • commodious spittoon

I had to do tech repair for mom, which involved scanning paperwork on the combo printer scanner she’d bought recently… I couldn’t get the damned thing to scan. Kept failing. Finally googled the model and found out it needs security permissions set on the host pc because it scans to its proprietary internet-based document imaging service. Can’t just drop it on the desktop as a tiff of whatever.

      • commodious spittoon

You people still print at home? Your office doesn’t have a printer?

      • Gustave Lytton

Damn, factoring in the gas and time, the cost per page of printing is worse than just buying a brand new printer when the included ink cartridge runs out.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

You still have an office? I threw my last printer against a wall, a great feeling…..

      • Mojeaux

Yes, my office has a printer.

      • rhywun

I had to buy a printer when I was canned from my previous job and had to fax a signed contract to them. I guess I could have used Kinkos or something but I figured I would have some other use for the thing. Got a wireless Canon for like fifty bucks. Haven’t used it since.

      • rhywun

        fax email

      • MikeS

OK. But my mini-rant-question below still stands.

      • MikeS

What is up with businesses still using faxes? I mean, it’s current fucking year for Christ’s sake.

Seriously, tough…WTF? Is it actually more secure than an encrypted email? I just don’t get it.

      • rhywun

        I haven’t had to send a fax in nearly a decade. ??‍♂️

      • MikeS

OK. Fair enough…I don’t know that I’ve had to for some time, either. I guess I had flashback or something.

But still, why faxing is even still a thing is just something I can’t comprehend.

      • kinnath

Plain vanilla Fax is a circuit-switched telephony connection that is protected by existing wire-tapping laws and results in a shitty, but “exact” facsimile of the source document.

So, yes, many “legal” documents must still be transmitted by fax instead of email.

      • rhywun

        Inertia.

      • Mojeaux

        Inertia is a helluva drug.

      • MikeS

But if I’m faxing it from my scanner over VOIP (or whatever) doesn’t that negate the telephony security part?

      • kinnath

But if I’m faxing it from my scanner over VOIP (or whatever) doesn’t that negate the telephony security part?

        Yes.

Roughly 20 years ago, I was working on a video surveillance system. The courts had finally allowed .jpeg files to be considered evidence in courts because it could be determined whether or not a file had been tampered with. At the same time, the courts were not accepting compressed .mpeg files. So the surveillance system captured “motion jpeg” files which were basically snap shots every second. It gave really shitty “movies”, but it was legally admissible in court. Because it was just a collection of .jpeg files.

I suspect that Fax persists because there is a legal basis for what defines admissible evidence regarding “copies” of originals.

Clearly, one can create much better security with encrypted documents and VPNs. But I suspect some businesses (like banks) still rely on the old technology for copying and transmitted legal facsimiles of important documents.

      • rhywun

        rely on the old technology

My old company was like that. We were always five years at least behind in any tech. New corp (which bought old corp) is much more aggressively up-to-date.

I have no new updates on my friend since she went on the vent. The only point of contact is her son, whom we don’t know and don’t have contact information for, and her bishop, who apparently can’t be arsed to tell us anything. The only thing the hospital would say was a hesitant “stable”. The tone of voice did not sound good.

A few hours ago I had the easiest, completely voluntarily, perfectly legal grift idea of a lifetime pop up in my brain. The biggest catch is that in order for it to work I’d need a legally binding agreement from a foreign nation’s legitimate government. It would also need to go viral via a fundraising site.

But if it did due to appealing to the right demographic…oh boy, howdy…even at a 45:1 ratio for said nation I’d be pig happily awash on shit.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Unbelievable. Holy shit has the Catholic Church gone into the shitter, further into the shitter I mean. That’s just pathetic and doesn’t the vaccine or the process that developed it use some kind of fetal whatever? How do they square that circle?

      • Ghostpatzer

Shocked, I am. After all, his is the same Church which locked its’ doors back in 2020, denying the Eucharist to the faithful. The Eucharist is merely the central ritual of Catholicism. Ask me why I left the Church and won’t be returning.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Toss the Pope and put Mel Gibson in charge. It’s no wonder Islam has been ascendant, they actually seem to believe in what they preach and if a religion doesn’t have that they have nothing.

      • Ghostpatzer

If only it were that simple. The Church hierarchy is much like the deep state, but even better; since the Pope is chosen by the College of Cardinals, there is no way an outsider like OMB or Mel could be elected. And if by some fortunate accident this were to occur, look what happened to Benedict.

Christianity is founded on the personal relationship with the Jesus Christ, unless we say it isn’t. We decide if your faith is deeply held or not. Fuck off and make sure little Tommy wears those skinny jeans next Mass.

I assume this decision comes from the top?

Mornin’. Nothing like being awakened at 4:15 AM by a tornado warning. Tuned out to be a big nothing, the really intense stuff was about 5 miles north of us. Oh well. Sleep, like democracy, is overrated.

    • Ownbestenemy

Yikes. Glad it was north of you. I got woken up an extra 30 minutes before my alarm because I guess my phone took a dive on a OTA update last night and wifey set hers to what she thought I had to get up to. No biggie. Allowed me to take my time with my work in the office rather than my normal knock it out.

      • Ghostpatzer

Hmm. Wifey set the alarm a half hour early? I wonder what she had in mind ?

      • Ownbestenemy

well I did say allowed me to take my time with my work in the office rather than my normal knock it out.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Turn off the alerts and rely on luck. You’ll be fine (probably).

    • Not Adahn

That’s one of the things OK was really good at. They’d tell you EXACTLY where the tornado was, and tell you the house numbers that were in its path.

      • Ghostpatzer

They need to be good, out there you get EF3-EF5 tornadoes, we get EF0-EF1, not usually deadly.

      • Ownbestenemy

Okies and tornados where like Calies and earthquakes. Wake me up when its above a 6.5 or an EF3

    https://www.nj.com/politics/2021/08/hes-not-nj-murphy-opponent-ciattarelli-slams-gov-on-guns-masks-even-italy-in-1st-town-hall.html

“Jack Ciattarelli wants to get rid of school masks mandates, he’ll do away with some of New Jersey’s strict gun restrictions and he’d like to shrink the state’s workforce by up to 10%. Those were just some of his pitches to potential voters Tuesday night.”

Not bad. Also, he’s not Murphy. Probably doesn’t stand a chance, but one never knows.

Mid 2020 I thought NJ *might* make a come back. I’m no longer that foolish optimistic. Sorry, but get out while you can.

      • Ownbestenemy

It amazing that even with all the news that efficiency isn’t what they thought it would be, people are still pushing it as if it were a golden ticket or an elixir of youth.

      • waffles

Efficacy? Yeah, there’s a huge disconnect there. Back in April/May you could be excused for thinking the vaccine was a silver bullet. But now? You have to be straight up not paying attention to think it changes a damned thing.

      • Ownbestenemy

        Auto-correct but yeah.

      • Sean

My dentist and eye doctor are both in NJ. I’m pretty sure I won’t have to fire my dentist, but I’m not so sure about my eye doctor.

      • rhywun

        More “feel safe” crap.

I told a coworker yesterday I’m not returning to the office except to pick up the rest of my workstation when the lockdowns return. She didn’t disagree.

  30. Festus

Late again. Thanks for the post CPRM. I’ll just leave this here.

Mornin’ Friends! I’ve a lot on my mind but Glibs always makes it feel a little better.

I had some crazy conspiracy thoughts in my mind this morning on my drive into work. To dispel them, I put on Alex Jones
