It is a nice, invented holiday today. I suspect not many will be on the site – so you get a bit of an abbreviated links and one ominous foreshadowing…er, preview link.
OMINOUS FORESHAWDOWING – Thursday’s GlibFlick will be …. Kung Fu Zombie. Synchronize your watches, or whatever people would say now.
Oh, and the rest of the world;
- When you say that government can do everything and anything…and should. Well, you had best deliver.
- Uh…I think some of Zoolander’s attack items are why he is behind. But go ahead and start that gasoline fight, there, Trudy.
- Farmers protest in India….read carefully to see what they are protesting. SMDH.
In my current ‘tween-projects state, every day is no-labor day! Of course, that does give me more time to get writing done.
Yep, about to go on vacation – hoping to script out some stuff finally – really feeling motivated and focused about a lot of stuff…maybe medication related, I’m not sure.
Good luck, both of you. Writing is uniquely satisfying when it flows.
Vacations are a good thing. Getting packed up for Vegas today.
Have lots of fun! Get stupid!
Looking over the event list for this year’s Viva is somewhat disappointing. Quite a few of the standard events (Charles Phoenix, hair and make-up classes, various others) aren’t happening this year. Still going to help support it and keep it going moving forward. A couple of the restaurants in the casino aren’t open (including the buffet), and there won’t be constant shuttles between the Orleans, the Gold Coast, and the Strip.
I still expect to meet quite a few cantankerous greasers, drink far too much, and watch the Browns game.
“ and watch the Browns game.” at the Flamingo sportsbook, hopefully.
I’m going to Vegas in October for work. Gonna’ try to bookend the week with football gambling and alcohol.
Current plans are at the Orleans sportsbook, as that’s where we’re staying. More then willing to change locations if you’ve got a pitch.
Nope. Just do it a sportsbook.
I like the Flamingo for sentimental reasons. I’ve gotten lucky there. Alot.
I enjoyed today’s installment, Animal. Very nice mood established throughout the series.
Of course, that does give me more time to get writing done
All the better for us. Really enjoying the series you have going now. Good stuff.
When you say that government can do everything and anything…and should. Well, you had best deliver.
Net libertarians from all of this: 0+/- 0.00001
So…rounding up…we got 1!
Pretty sure that’s the same math used to show masks are up to 10% effective.
Definitely a slow day if I’m first. Yeah, it’s really weird in India – those protests (or comments about the markets have been going on at least all this year IIRC).
But you’re not first.
Yeah, still weird not to see any comments at 4:06
The world is still going stupid.
You’re welcome.
Everybody was Kung Fu Zombie!
Hunh!
Those cats were fast as lightning!
Were they? Somehow, I doubt it.
When did fast zombies become a thing? I don’t care much for zombie films beyond the original Romero trilogy. Not that there haven’t been some good ones like Shaun of the Dead. Coming to Glibs is like going to Winchester until it all blows over. If only it would.
28 Days Later (although not technically “zombies” per se – alive not dead (like in Ringo’s “Dark Tide Rising” books)).
28DL was pretty good. Very depressing, which is why I don’t much like it.
Well, one of the multiple endings was a sort-of happy one.
I’m not into the recent zombie explosion but I love that movie.
Well, from everything I’ve seen – esp at the time – it was definitely the first flick with “fast” zombies vs Romero’s “shamblers”. Even the “Dawn of the Dead” sequel kept them slow. Fast works if they’re technically still alive (28DL), but for actual walking corpses, fast makes zero sense.
“Train to Busan” from a few years ago (2016) is excellent – and the animated “prequel” from the same director – “Seoul Station”.
And yeah…WWZ would be vastly better as a miniseries – different eps focused on different narrators. The movie had an amazing concept and just got stupid (ie. the wall of zombies climbing in Israel).
Oh I dunno, I thought it worked to have a big spectacle like that for the movie. You’re right about miniseries vs movie, though. It came a little too early otherwise I reckon it would have been a series, but like I said that’s only based on me having seen the movie.
The Return of the Living Dead (1985) series zombies weren’t fast, but they moved at normal human speed.
Good point. Although I think it also varied by state of decomposition there. Tar-man wasn’t too fast.
I recently rewatched ROTLD. Its amazing how well the SFX on the tar-man still hold up.
I think I’d class that as fast for zombies.
Zombieland was entertaining.
I’ve not yet seen it, but on another note I recall thinking the World War Z movie with Brad Pitt was interesting. I haven’t read the novel.
The movie worked decently as background noise. The book was much better.
Warm Bodies is decent if you get a chance to catch it on the cheap, just realize it’s another remake of Romeo and Juliet.
?
The book was good. The Brad Pitt movie was lousy.
Yu Wang?
Whatever happened to Rufus?
It wasn’t my turn to watch him.
He had to work.
I believe he is mired in family problems. I wish him well.
Aw heck. Il me manque.
I hope things turn out as well as possible.
I also seem to remember something about needing a mental break from politics.
Rufus? Why he headlined the 1972 WattStax concert at the LA Coliseum. Ain’t he pretty? https://youtu.be/KCFyKRtlLOI
Glad he’s not dead.
I sent him an e-mail letting him know folks are asking about him. I think life has been keeping him busy.
I just heard from Rufus.
He sends his regards. Current events have him down and he’s taking a break.
Thanks.
You’re welcome!
“I don’t blame climate change, I blame the mayor,” Danette Rivera, 47, told The Post outside her Woodside home Monday morning after de Blasio, AOC, Sen. Charles Schumer and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell toured her block.
And nothing else will happen.
Canadian Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, trailing in opinion polls, attacked his main rival on Monday for waffling on gun control and vaccine mandates as the campaign enters its final stretch ahead of the Sept. 20 election.
This makes me smile.
Conservative leader Erin O’Toole on Sunday scrapped a campaign promise to eliminate a ban on some assault weapons, a sensitive issue in Canada after mass shootings in recent years. Trudeau sought to capitalize on his opponent’s shift with just two weeks left to reverse his fortunes. read more
Scrapping this campaign promise does not make me smile.
Well… billions of dollars that are supposed to be spent on city drainage infrastructure will continue to get pissed away on fancy cars and Caribbean vacations – that’s something, isn’t it?
I will hang my head in shame for not remembering grift and graft.

The specific mass shooting in question was in 1989.
If glibs is short on content, I just ran across an old paper I wrote from law school. Niche content (proposes an approach for companies to combat patent trolls) and wasn’t worth publishing (I later found out there was a group that started doing “my” approach around the time I wrote the paper).
Dunno if anybody cares or is interested, but at the very least it could replacd 3 or 4 open posts if no other content is available.
Did that several times with my old papers in 2017. Not a bad way.
I’d be interested.
Did you see the missing-lawyer story the other morning, and the protocol question thereon?
Wonder what happened to RBS, speaking of.
Nope, I missed it. Link?
Why yes, yes we do need content. Thank you.
I just hit the submit button for my FreedomFest 2021 write-up.
I’m going to have one more drink to celebrate.
I just received an e-mail from the Larry Elder campaign. In person voting has started in California.
The mail includes a picture of Gavin Newsom with the text “RECALL NEWSOM” and “CHAOS FAILURE INCOMPETENCE”
There’s a homemade RECALL NEWSOM sign on the road I pass – just somebody with a black marker and a passionate hatred doing his/her part!
Has anyone made a sign that says something to the effect of:
“Hey Gavin, your ex-wife is stoinking Orange Man Bad’s son. You Loser!”
It is a nice, invented holiday today. I suspect not many will be on the site – so you get a bit of an abbreviated links
Thanks for the links Swiss abbreviated as they are. On this invented holiday I have been cooking all day after a (short) morning bike ride. A bike was ridden, legs were made to ache, meat was cooked and now a drink is being consumed.
I went to the gym. It was a madhouse. They closed at 1 today, so everyone that goes on Monday was compressed into a few hours.
I intended to get work done around the house outside, but all I’ve been doing is reading, watching youtube videos, and editing my FreedomFest write-up.
I have been cooking all day
Whatchu got?
I’m smoking a whole chicken right now and am debating running over to the store to get some more tomatoes to can a few pints of pizza sauce.
I grilled chicken thighs yesterday. Today I smoked a small ham while bathing it in chicken broth. Baked some sweet potatoes that I will make into sweet potato skins to be stuffed with a clam mixture I have yet to make. A ribeye is salted and room temping to be put on the grill in a bit for salads next week. That is what the ham is for too. I chuck the sliced ham in the food processor and chop it up and put a handful or two on salads. Also need to make some salad dressing for the week:
1 can anchovies (sans the oil)
balsamic vinegar
red wine vinegar
mayo
dijon mustard
lime juice
cracked black pepper
Pulse til smooth
Those salads… ?
I’ve been trying to think of ways to spruce up salads, and it sounds like you’ve found the winning solution.
Meat, shredded whole milk Mozz and that vinaigrette on a chopped green leaf and romaine lettuce salad with chopped red and yellow baby peppers and a bit of green onion. I could live on them. I eat at least one a day.
Stolen.
Enjoy. I am having one tonight as well since I have decided I am done cooking. The frittata in the oven is the last thing I feel like making at the moment.
Instead of lettuce, try using fresh basil or fresh mint as the “leafy green”.
Mmm. Fresh herb salad.
That dressing sounds delicious
Garlic. I forgot the garlic. It is good give it a try. Anchovies are good for you!
CLLE Mk I
I am jealous of the Lee-Enfield collection Ian is using for this video series.
The Belgian farmers seem to be better at protesting.
https://youtu.be/0Tprmv71XCQ
Belgians are also better at making beer.
?
Yes
Les moules et les frites?
non, merci
Banana-flavoured beer. ?
I was at a pub last week and one of the offerings was described as a Hefeweizen. It had a distinct banana flavour. I am not an expert, but I believe that was not a Hefeweizen.
There’s a white wine at Trader Joe’s that tastes like that. Grifoni.
Correct. You are not an expert. ?
“The German-style hefeweizen is straw to amber in color and brewed with at least 50 percent malted wheat. The aroma and flavor of a weissbier comes largely from the yeast and is decidedly fruity (banana) and phenolic (clove). The intensity of these wildly differing flavor qualities varies depending on the brewer, but the two are most commonly balanced.”

The more you know ?
The gayer you are?
In the biblical sense, stastically
eventually, yes.
Chipping Pioneer:
The Biblical Sense? (Song, mildly NSFW)
Don’t forget clove flavored!
The banana/clove flavors are determined by fermentation temperature and the specific yeast strain used.
Yep. And they are delicious.
I think I’ve told you this before, maybe not. When I was homebrewing years ago, your basic Hefe recipe was my go-to. I can’t remember if it was at Reason, or when we started here, but I stumbled across the recipe one day and saw the author’s name looked familiar. Small world.
From Brewtoad? IIRC, I based that on robc’s recipe that he shared at one point.
They’re protesting for government action to prop up low milk prices. Pass.
For every one “good” thing the Euros riot over, there’s at least two that are shit sandwich antiliberty.
Probably true of most parts of the world.
They should have used a manure spreader.
The shredded straw was a nice addition
Omar
cominggone.Doggone it, I thought you were talking about the Squad bitch from Minnesoda. You went and got my hopes up, only to have them shattered into a bajillion tiny little pieces.?
I too, feel sorrow.
*hugs*
::sobs on TARDy’s shoulder::
And it’s a shame about the actor, too.
I thought of making a Leonard Pine nod but I figured you libertarians would get The Wire reference before the Lansdale one.
I’ve heard Glibs talk about the series quite a lot, but I’ve never watched it – we don’t have HBO.
I’ve seen it, so it’s either on Netflix or Amazon prime.
Don’t have either of those either. We had Netflix, but didn’t watch it enough to make it worth keeping, and the only thing that has almost-but-not-quite tempted me to get Prime was the adaptation of Good Omens, but I was afraid that even with David Tennant (***SIGH!!!***) I wouldn’t like it as much as I liked the book.
It’s not as good as the book, because nothing could be. Gaiman did his best, and the adaptation (and the coming sequel based on a half written sequel) even though his love for PTerry hurt it at times (there were entire PTerry monologues included that didn’t help pacing, and could have been done in other ways).
Good Omens (TV) was fun. I have not read the book.
Oh, the book is one of my all-time favorites. Even the footnotes are entertaining. One is a handy guide to old British currency (shillings, pounds, guineas.) I used to keep a bookmark there, but I’ve removed it. Mr. Ilium – help! What chapter is that footnote in??
GT: I’ll tell you for two guineas and a bob.
::narrows gaze at Neph:: I suppose I should say what “day” section of the book has that footnote? And why couldn’t Sir Pterry use chapter numbers like a normal writer? [Disclaimer: I realize that the phrase “normal writer” is an oxymoron.]
GT: As i believe it was referenced to the extended pay rules of the Witch Hunter’s, I believe it’s late in day 1 or early in day 2.
PTerry (anecdotally) didn’t use chapter numbers because he hated breaking up his stories. He acquiesced to using them in books that were listed as children’s books so they could be listed as children’s books (apparently some rule in British publishing). Things get even worse when you realize that for quote references and the like, there’s a minimum of four page numbers to verify the quote.
Found it! ::scrambles around to find a bookmark:: It’s a few pages into “Saturday.”
@Neph
could have been done in other ways
How so? Just wondering.
I listened to the book in my car, and the wife read it years ago. Without the monologues, I think many viewers would not have enjoyed it as much. Sometimes a little narration goes along way.
My wife and I both agree though, Michael and David worked very well together.
@TARDis
Specifically in a limited series, they could have had dialogues between characters to introduce the information that was brought over by the narrator monologues in a way (that I believe) would have helped move story and build relationships. The monologues that were included were none of Gaiman’s, but most of PTerry’s monologues were included.
/mutters they left out my favorite part about Death, Elvis, and the other four riders.
Understood. That means… more episodes. That have would been fine by me.
@TARDis:
Not necessarily. Which would you rather watch, voice over talking about the creation of the world, or a car ride with Crowley and Aziraphale discussing about it with added snark and commentary?
It just seems like it would take longer. Of course I would enjoy the actors acting more.
Hey, any reference to Hisownself is always appreciated.
That said, the movie version of Cold in July isn’t half bad.
I was not aware of that I’ll have to check it out, thanks.
Excuse any drugs shuffling out of my pant leg, but here’s another piece of the puzzle on these spike proteins (PDF link to a paper).
Trouser leg ?, and ta.
Well, if you’re so fond of the limey vernacular you might enjoy this.
It’s nice to receive sympathetic postcards from the mother country.
It’s good to talk.
mi duck
Have you spent much time in the East Midlands?
Only an amateur Adrian Mole expert. ? Although I don’t remember that phrase ever coming up.
See about 30 seconds in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vNnH78odsk
? I guess that was around the time he was big on WLIIA? The chick in the Harvester ad is how I imagine all glib women eat, especially in restaurants.
No, I wish I’d seen more of your lovely country. But some.
In retrospect… Argh, anyway.
Yes, Britain sort of has that effect on you.
I cleaned today. Aah, that’s better. I always feel better when the house is clean. Hot sauce isn’t ready, and I just didn’t get the pierogi done.
Next weekend.
Omar should have known better.

CWAA
Good for him. I guess he figures he has too many patients anyway.
Not like he swore an oath to treat people.
Yes I had considered that. In reality though, if you knew he’d said that, and you had a choice of doctors, are you going to go to him?
It is worth pointing out, because it’s an important distinction between this and the predictable moron comparison to Masterpiece. Bakers don’t take oaths to their customers, but they are free to stay true to their beliefs. Fat lot of use that is because AFAICT the low-info useful idiot understanding of that is still that he “refused service to gay and trans persons”.
Cue weepy follow-up on all the “death threats” he’s received.
Am I propaganda-ing right?
Yes, that about covers the standard play.
At this point, does anyone even remotely think this is true? The guy is probably a doctor in a technical sense, but is either retired, non-practicing, has a doctorate in something totally different like Frau Doktor Biden, or some other such bullshit.

LOLOLOL
Trudeau is going hard after “anri-vaxxers”. He doesn’t recognize that many of the people whom he calls that are not true anri-vaxxers. What many of them are are minorities and immigrants who may have voted for him in the past. I do not think that this will have the results that he thinks it will.
I’m assuming this vote will be a referendum on the last year and a half of panic hysteria – the first major one I can think of. I am very interested in the results.
We had the 2020 elections here in the US. Cooper in NC locked down the state and won re-election. Scott in VT locked down the state and won re-election. Sununu in NH locked down the state and won re-election. On the other hand, the NH legislature went Republican, but not just Republican – former LP members, Free Staters and other fellow travellers who pushed back against Sununu.
We had the PA Constitutional amendments which went against Wolf who locked the state down.
All true. This may be one of the first where the spectre of vaccine mandates is an issue.
True. I think this is the first one involving vaccine mandates.
I didn’t think of 2020. Maybe because that seemed more a referendum on Orange to me.
Sadly, the Conservatives, who are the only other party with a chance to form government, offer very little difference to the Liberals.
The People’s Party is the one party with any profile that is opposed to all of the Covid regime. However, there’s a concerted effort on the part of the the media to either not cover them or paint them as right wing extremists. The candidate who ran in our riding the last election was a lesbian of colour and daughter of immigrants. Hit all the diversity check marks. Still a right wing extremist.
Évidemment, bien sûr.
There are two types of Canadians according to the Natural Governing Party: Liberals and “right-wing extremists.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if they managed to somehow accuse Singh (federal leader of the New Democrats, Canada’s “official” left-wing party) of being a right-wing extremist. After all, he’s got the word “Singh” in his name! HIS NAME! Don’t you understand what this means?!? ONLY THE LIBERALS CAN SAVE US!!!
“The People’s Party”?
I think they need a re-branding.
Maybe something was lost in translation.
Bernier!!!!!!
I’m back and my basement is finally bailed out.
Naturally this was the storm that my sump pump decided to burn up dealing with. Other folks in my town were far less fortunate.
What did I miss?
Apparently there are movie nights now. Although I’m not clear on how they work.
I’m assuming alcohol is involved.
Damn. Sorry to hear that. You didn’t miss anything. Same news different day.
Everything is still stupid.
People suck.
I had some kielbasa today.
You’re caught up.
Sorry about your flooding.
I’m back and my basement is finally bailed out.
Good.
Sorry to hear you got flooded, glad to hear it’s cleared out. I think I’m pretty close by if you need anything.
Thanks! We should be good.
So much for free beer. Oh, wait, I don’t drink.
Kids, gotta love em, I started a Closest to the pin challenge, a dollar in, everyone says sure, then they notice a 50$ pot and get very serious, just like I hoped. They are all out practicing for the elusive Ace, now that money is involved, and they are all getting better because of it, I love my job,
You’re teaching kids how to gamble on frisbee golf?
I went shooting every day this weekend. It was awesome. Practice Saturday, USPSA match Sunday, more practice today. I reek of spent gunpowder.
Made some new friends at the match, too. That’s always nice.
Now I’m on my way to the local for a few beers, and maybe a chicken salad sandwich with bacon and avocado, and a few hours of mapmaking for my upcoming 5E campaign…
Yesterday was a prime example of the difference of “doing well at a match” and ” having a good time at the match.”
5e? Ick.
Also: fuck WoTC.
…in whichever opening they’d enjoy the least.
On the other hand, I’m completely shameless about ignoring rules in the service of a fun story. The ruleset exists only to be exploited.
“5e? Ick.”
This. ODD or nothing.
Yes.
Thought 1st Edition AD&D or 2nd Edition AD&D will do too.
I still run a 1st Ed AD&D game, for a group that I’ve been playing with since ~1989.
Does anyone use MapTool for a virtual tabletop? It’s not the best, but it is free, under active development, and maps can be arbitrarily large.
It’s only recently that I played D&D with tabletop maps.
We relied on descriptions and manually keeping track of everything.
The tabletop maps help.
As time passes, getting everyone into one room gets harder. One guy is basically on house arrest because his wife is beyond paranoid about COVID, and another guy has pulled the trigger on early retirement and is moving to Florida. It’s really handy to have a way to share a map that is more sophisticated than pointing your camera at a paper map.
I mostly use Illwinter’s mapmaking tool on Steam. I will check this one out though.
I’ll look for the Illwinter thing. Some people I play with don’t like MapTool very much, so I’m interested in what else is out there.
MapTool has a lot of quirks, some stuff you just have to think, “is that on purpose or just a bug?” It has some game automation features that can be really powerful, if you put the time in up front.
ODD? You cannot be pimping for Original Dungeons & Dragons.
I still have all the original D&D boxed sets in storage somewhere.
Chainmail or GTFO!
I’ve got a bunch of them.
I also have some of the Erol Otis cover rulebooks.
I hope he is because otherwise I’d feel stupid.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m down with the old school.
I started playing around ’80, and the guys I knew didn’t have any of the ADD books other than the Players Handbook. So, a lot of house rules, and cross-over stuff.
I started playing around ’80
Around ’83 for me, although we started on AD&D. Our first efforts were…. not good.
I don’t remember when I started playing. Early 80s I guess?
My older brother received some D&D books with the Erol Otis covers from our uncles who played and were done with it. My older brother started running games.
When he got tired of the game, he gave the books to me.
I still have them.
White box or GTFO!*
In my eyes, the game is about fun and imagination. Each subsequent version just added more rules as the adventures became more railroad-y**. Not a good thing, although for a company to survive and grow not bad. It just doesn’t add to the game, at least in my opinion. The only thing that is missing in my opinion is a good conversion to all D6. Like I said, keep it simple.
*(although there is nothing wrong with B/X)
**along with Brita, Dragonlance was the worst.
I had mixed feelings about Dragonlance. It might have been interesting… but kinda flopped.
I’ll stand up for my shame, I loved the White Wolf World of Darkness world. The magic rules for Mage: The Awakening were the best ever. I also still love Earthdawn for making dwarves the dominant species, making all characters magic users, and making the evil empire slavers.
Aw yas.
Earthdawn was the best thought out game system I ever played, and some of the best writing to go along with it.
The weapons mastery system from the Masters set is the best done by that company in any of its incarnations.
And the Companions rules are the only way to include actual rulership by your PCs in a game.
Here’s a hilariously shitty horror film. In a nautical setting.
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt14153900/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
Real crap. I’m quite enjoying it.
Going to BBQ with the new neighbors. They are really nice people, but I think we need to create a Glibs city-state.
I hope everyone has a great night!
Oh, and I’m making jerk wings. It’s a good way to identify My People.
Ja Mon! De Jerk sauce is De Bomb Ya!
/Enjoy T!
Cheers! Have a good bbq.
Im just gonna saute a chicken breast in butter and evoo. I’ll lightly dust it in flour and corn meal. Make a gravy from the drippings with some shallots and white wine. Basil salad with cherry tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette.
I was thrilled to see you use vegetable trimmings to make stock. I do, my mom and grandma did. I watches cooking show that said you shouldn’t. I turned it off.
Yep. Into the freezer until I’ve got enough and a need for stock.
We cook so much vegetables and prepare salads daily. Seems a shame to just trash the trimmings. There are so many different veg and herbs and mushrooms, it really makes a robust and flavorful broth. Also, it smells good while it’s simmering.
I got a bunch of kitchen stuff, all the right dishes, bowls, pots, containers, etc. I got a nice dishwasher and 4 hours to kill. Why not?
My laboring involved finishing my design project (lines and circles, really hard, for realz), which is beautiful, if I do say so myself, and getting my Wednesday drawing assignment half done, which, thus far, is utterly hideous.
I remember being so frustrated and hating certain draws, but when I looked back years law, I loved them.
About 1/10 of the way in, I see what she’s trying to teach and I can appreciate it even if I don’t like it.
Running a Disc Golf Club is a PITA! Herding cats is the easy part, then there’s the money, Prizes, social media, yikes!
/Hella good fun
My wife’s been gone to see her Mom on the coast for four days now, our wedding anniversary was yesterday, I’m drunk, making shitty food (which I always do when she’s not around to cook for) and I’m really, really depressed about the state of my country and the world. His Royal Hairness™ will most likely be re-elected , even if he isn’t we’ll still go down the stupid, civic-society-destroying path of the authoritarians and totalitarians of the 20th century, and our Moral and Intellectual Betters™ in government and public health are proving Einstein’s maxim about insanity true yet once again.
I didn’t want to be alive to see The End Of Days™.
Happy Anniversary!
Not being in Canada and just reading news, I wonder if The Hair That Walks Like A Man might go down.
I doubt Maxime Bernier will win.
Mrs. Anacreon and I decided on the most mellow long weekend imaginable, doing a little cleaning out the garage each day, and then spending the rest of each day sitting in the shade in our backyard in 90-degree dry heat and clear skies. Reading fun vacation books and sipping cold beverages, and turning down opportunities and invitations to be more active. It seems like everyone else in the neighborhood went away for the weekend, it’s never been more quiet and peaceful. Wondering if this ends up being a nice stretch we’ll always remember.
I think I might actually feel well rested when returning to work tomorrow. I need to keep this in mind next time we have several days off and feel that we ought to “do something”.
Yeah, “doing something” is highly overrated.
Sounds lovely. Nothing wrong with going away and doing cool stuff when you have some time off, but taking it easy and recharging your batteries is required every now and then.
Sounds good. Topped off a good week, too, with a lazy Labor Day. Birthday last week and all the kids and grandkids came over for surf and turf barbeque. Then a big “stimulus check” showed up unannounced in my mailbox on Wednesday. On Thursday, a former Miss Pennsylvania called and asked us to meet her for lunch. Then, Saturday, I came out of the shower and was recipient of a surprise bj.
!
Never ask a woman drinking wine straight from the bottle how she’s doing.
Or a guy.
I’m presently working through a rather expensive bottle of Semillon, in lieu of anything cheaper around the house. It’s good, but probably wasted on me at the moment. Not that I care.
Aw, you sound miserable. ?
/looks at the recycling can in the garage.
Yeah… most of that was probably wasted on me this weekend as well.
Hope both of you are doing alright.
Better or worse than drinking it straight from the box?
Slower.
I’m good. Thanks for asking and please accept my apologies for not being more specific.
My husband had some recurrence of health issues, and this winter/spring memories are too fresh.
He decided not to die though so instead of going to the ER we went out for brunch.
Never apologize!
Things are rough enough now for most people, so that I wish the best for the lot of you.
Isn’t that a French Nouvelle Vague movie? Goddard’s Death or Brunch?
Brunch is much better than the ER. This is known.
That’s a low bar.
They don’t have mimosas in the ER.
How would you know, Moj? 😉
Nice when everybody’s OK. We encourage that.
Vaccine Failure and the Way Out:
We drove North to the in-laws cottage yesterday and spent today doing end of summer stuff. Pulled in the floating dock, pulled in the paddle boat, put the patio table away, cleaned inside etc. Now back home and I’m beat.
I have a glass of rye at my elbow, a sunny sky above, and I’m listening to the Henry Mancini Orchestra playing Moon River. Good stuff. If I were any more relaxed I’d be unconscious.
Sounds Wonderful!
Cheers!
Speaking of Mancini, I rec Monica Mancini. Good voice. Not excellent, but very enjoyable.
I’ve got a sour in front of me (from Revolutions surprisingly good Freedom pack), the bags mostly packed, and Kitty in a Casket playing. Life could be worse.

Transitioned Gene Simmons needs to shut the hell up. She is the worst.
She’s a chickenshit internet coward. Hide behind the masses, you shit-filled cunt.
That’s really unfair to Gene Simmons.
Sure, why not. Let’s get this clusterfuck over with. Stop pussyfooting around and tear it all down already.
Reminds me of this from 8 years ago: https://www.popehat.com/2013/12/23/burn-the-fucking-system-to-the-ground/
The good old days, back before Ken White admitted what an asshole he is…
I also believe that was one of the writers that Ken White kicked off the site.
It wasn’t KW who wrote it but your point is still valid.
I hope Swiss doesn’t see this.
“AUSTIN, TX—Podcaster Joe Rogan has announced that he’s feeling better but is still going around with a long face and is feeling a little hoarse after recovering from his illness with a concoction of drugs prescribed by his doctor.
“Yeah, I’m still a little long in the face and am feeling a little hoarse,” he said to his podcast listeners Monday. “I’m just about ready to get back in the saddle, though. We’re gonna hit things hard when I come back, at a full gallop. The mane thing is we’re gonna ride this thing out and trot out our new stable of guests real soon here. Feels like I’m on the tail end of this thing and we can see the finish line now.”
“We’re on the home stretch and we whipped this thing pretty good.”
Rogan added that he was going to have to “pony up” a little extra to pay for his treatment this month, but it shouldn’t be a problem as Spotify bet a lot of bucks on him as their winning horse.”

This is the cutest “problem” I’ve ever seen.
Seems like there should be more feces everywhere.
It’s cute until they eat all the grass and start looking for an alternative diet.
Do they BBQ well?
That was my thought. they look meaty.
BBQ Guinea Pig is pretty good. I doubt these things would be much different.
People do eat them during lent because some pope decided they were fish.
For real?
If I may, a question to the Glib mind; how many of you use two different towels in the kitchen? One to dry pots and pans with, and a separate one for wiping things down with? This is what the wife wants, and it makes zero sense to me. You have towels, and you use them as necessary. No differentiation.
But, when I push back on the two towel tyranny, it’s a coniption fest. “You were raised by wolves!” and so on. What am I missing?
I have two towels. The one for wiping things (and hands) gets dirty faster.
Washed pots pans and dishes should air dry otherwise you are just smearing whatever food residue is left on the thing. I use paper towel to dry them when in a rush. I use paper towel for everything really. Except hot handles.
I have two towels but use them interchangeably, whichever one is closer. I don’t dry dishes with them, just my hands. They don’t touch my counters – that’s what paper towels are for.
I think this is what is referred to as a “you’re absolutely right honey, what was I thinking” moment.
“No, you’re a towel!”
Dunno about two. Have a small stack that start as counter towels and end up as floor towels.
We have 4 or 5 out at any one time. Almost solely for use drying hands or, occasionally, as trivets. The only thing in the kitchen that doesnt air dry is my cast iron pan. Like western, I use paper towels on the rare occasion I need something dry right now.
I use two towels in the kitchen — a dish drying towel (also used for pots and pans) and a hand towel. The dish drying towel is considered cleaner than the hand towel. Then after a while it becomes a hand towel.
A dish-drying towel and a counter-wiping towel.
OF COURSE.
Philistine.

I’ll be fine, just became a touch more outside the law a few weeks ago…I’ll adjust, it’s just a tad stressful. Thank you for caring, my dear.
?
I’d rather not divulge details.
Look! new shit to laugh at!
It it meant to be funny? I haven’t read it as I just got online at the hotel and have to catch up.
Sorry, yo. The lack of arrows is throwing me off.
