    Milley’s going nowhere, except Hell,
    howdy Kids!

    • AlexinCT

I believe Biden’s people wanted to punish him for fucking up Afghanistan but couldn’t without scoring a dozen own goals. So they decided to use this shit to get him while putting out the narrative what he did was heroic (to cover their own asses) for doing this. Everyone tells you how noble it was that he subverted the chain of command to give a US opponent/enemy an assurance that there would be no nuclear attack on them without a warning from him. This is at a minimum a coup, and likely rises to the level of treason. And Pelosi was part of this. I am going to bet it will take a while, but we will find out Milley talked to Pelosi before he did this shit.

Here is my big question: Why did Pelosi & Milley think Trump would nuke China? They claim the guy was unhinged, but what would unhinge someone enough to want to nuke China (specifically)?

      • waffles

I semi-frequently joke about nuking China, specifically. These people are unhinged maybe they take a lot of the idle banter as statement of intent.

      • robodruid

It’s ceremonial, bro. Just like you don’t get to keep the chariot or the wreath-holder after your tribute.

      • waffles

Can you really put a price on peace of mind?

      • The Last American Hero

I thought we kept the ceremonial role in the safe with the carburetor that makes 70’s gas guzzlers get 200 mpg. You know, the one the auto companies refused to use even though fuel-efficient Japanese cars were gobbling up half their market share and driving them to bankruptcy.

      • AlexinCT

I think this is definitely a big part of it. But this happened right after the 1/6 media declared “insurrection” and the election everyone not part of the mandarinate and the sheep they assign their opinions to felt had some really fucked up shit happening that overnight changed the results of the election. There seems to be something more there that they felt would piss Trump off enough to then really make him want to nuke China. Cause I guarantee you they worried because someone not part of their cabal of CCP sellouts would have felt it amounted to an attack on us by China….

      • Tonio

“Why did Pelosi & Milley think Trump would nuke China?”

        CLASSIFIED!

      • AlexinCT

I think that’s what we will be told when people finally ask the question…

      • db

Yes, I imagine it would compromise many things.

      • Not Adahn

My objection to the “Biden’s handlers are scapegoating Milly” theory is that would have required these interviews to have just happened within the past two weeks. Is that even possible?

      • AlexinCT

You don’t think like they do. They are constantly committing or encouraging criminal activity to get their way, so they always have something they can fall back on when they decide one of them needs to be dealt with (or even be sacrificed to distract others from something they don’t want them to pay close attention to). And Mielly knows better than to fuck with them when they tell him he is up.

      • Pine_Tree

“Why did Pelosi & Milley think Trump would nuke China?”

They didn’t. That’s BS for the domestic audience.

This is kowtowing to the ones who’ve bought them, and simultaneously attacking the deplorables.

      • AlexinCT

If they didn’t, why would Milley feel obliged to make the call?

      • Pine_Tree

Kowtowing. It’s theatre on both ends – always has been.

He’s a political animal and they’re his masters.

      • Pine_Tree

To expand: He knows what he says is not true. They know what he says is not true. But saying it is a the cloak to cover up that it’s a demonstration of his fealty, and a declaration that the Americans are the real joint enemy.

    Insubordination/Treason. Tomato/Clamato

The absolute best outcome for which we could hope under the current administration is a conviction on a non-capital charge, followed by an immediate pardon. The most reasonable outcome… is he announces his retirement.

      • Trigger Hippie

Kinda pathetic that the best we can hope for a situation like this is the offending party resigns then gets a tongue bath from the media, elites, and a cushy gig as a consultant or talking head.

Our leadership is so corrupt it’s sickening

      • AlexinCT

Milley belongs to the right team – the woke ones that feel laws exist to punish their enemies, and not for any of them to follow – and because of that he will walk away without any real consequences. Now ask General Flynn how the law works for you when you are an enemy of the deep state and the DNC crime syndicate…

I do not ever expect the system to treat me fairly or deliver justice to me whether I am the plaintiff or have been forced to take action against some statist asshat. And I am not alone. Eventually people will decide to take the law in their own hand to get justice.

Some 12.3 million American households were formed from January 2012 to June 2021, but just 7 million new single-family homes were built during that time.

Stuff the remainder into cities or “downtown areas”, where they’re forced to become part of the urban, non-car-owning “creative class,” and eventually they’ll learn to vote Democrat.

    • SDF-7

Yup — that was my first thought too: “Feature, not bug”.

    • Cy Esquire

The already learned to vote democrat in every single educational institution from Kindergarten to Doctorate. The commies have won.

    • Tonio

Yep. New apartment and condo construction is booming here. Also the conversion of old warehouses and factories to apartments and condos. The move to WFH will only accelerate the conversion of commercial space to residential. It’s all coming together, Shpip.

    • Not Adahn

Ban forming new households without proof of housing availability. Duh.

‘In a letter last month, 46 Republican senators warned Democrats that they will not vote for an increase in the debt ceiling, according to Bloomberg News.

“We will not vote to increase the debt ceiling, whether that increase comes through a stand-alone bill, a continuing resolution, or any other vehicle,” the letter said. “Democrats, at any time, have the power through reconciliation to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling, and they should not be allowed to pretend otherwise.”‘

Yeah, sure. I’ll believe the Republicans have a one set of balls amongst themselves when I see it. I’ll just assume this is grandstanding now only to reach a compromise/knuckle under later.

We went out to eat this past weekend with friends who were all in on Covid craziness.

Dining out could also be seeing a decline because prices have jumped up…just sayin’.

I went out to a nicer restaurant a few weeks ago. They seem to have retained their entire staff, while only using about a fifth of their available seating. It’s not a surprise that they’ve jacked up prices.

    • LCDR_Fish

Haven’t noticed prices that don’t match the menus here in Lake Placid – and I havent once been asked/told to out on a mask but nearly every business I’ve seen is hiring. Some places have reduced hours or just not running the kitchen on certain days. I mean, I got used to mixed up hours not matching the websites when I visited in October before (in between seasons) – but they just had the marathon on Sunday and most of these places are really scrambling.

    • DEG

The local brewpub dropped its prime rib special because of increasing meat prices.

      • Nephilium

My football game watching local has shifted their standard wing prices to Market Price. Thankfully, they still have the Sunday special of $6 for a pound of wings and fries (but I’m willing to bet the ratio of wings/fries will slowly shift as needed).

      • DEG

        Market price for wings?

      • Nephilium

Yep. They were known for giant cheap wings before, so a bit of a shock. They do have boneless wings for the old prices at least (and the Sunday special, which used to be $5/10 wings).

Mandarin Milley should be prosecuted for treason.

    • Cy Esquire

But he won’t. He’ll retire on his fat pension. He’ll write a book for the right people and get paid millions for it, by the right people.

      Justice is dead.

      • AlexinCT

Have you seen how the people that felt a guy without a shirt and a Viking hat and a bunch of other LARPer buddies being allowed into congress was an insurrection, but Milley’s circumventing the chain of command was something heroic? To them the act is good, even when illegal/destructive, as long as it helps them and their agenda…

  12. Rebel Scum

The data, from a new Rasmussen poll, reveals that 49 percent of American “likely voters” either strongly or somewhat agree with the concept that the U.S. government is holding political prisoners. Forty-two percent are in disagreement, with nine percent “unsure”.

    51% are propagandized lemmings.

    • Tonio

Not even that. 42% disagree, 9% unsure, 49% either strongly or somewhat agree. People know what’s going on but realize that the next crackdown will involve cops firing on protesters.

I am still a little giddy from the SpaceX launch yesterday, the first completely private (non-government) space mission. 3 Days in orbit. (Netflix “Countdown” is the 4 part documentary series about it–highly recommend.)

“Half of Americans believe January 6th protesters are political prisoners.”

I’d like to take hope from this, but I can’t.

    • Not Adahn

Just because the publics know they’re political prisoners doesn’t mean they disapprove of locking them up.

    • Loveconstitution1789

What else would you call a bunch of Americans who protested and entered a public building during a Constitutionally mandated counting of EC votes and then were hunted down, arrested, held without bail, and then charged with crimes?

Obviously, the people who committed theft or vandalism should be charged with misdemeanors. The very few people that did.

      • R C Dean

The trespassing charges are utterly indefensible, given that so many were allowed in by the cops. I suspect many were never even asked to leave, or if so, they left peacefully when asked. Traditionally, trespassing doesn’t occur unless (1) there is a sign that you disregard or (2) you are asked to leave and refuse.

I think the reason so many are still locked up is because there are no good criminal charges against them, and now the state is doing what it does – digging in rather than admitting error.

      • Ownbestenemy

‘admitting error’…so like the past 19 months..

      • Loveconstitution1789

These people should have demanded speedy and public trials.

I bet their defense attorneys (I heard that many are federal public defenders) told them to hold on and they would have charges dropped once people move on to a new story. Horrible advice.

These protesters were going to be made examples of. Only juries could save them from the DC tyranny. Even then it was not guaranteed.

  15. Rebel Scum

If successful, the proposal would cut the number of GOP House members from the Empire State in half — from eight to four — because it also eliminates the district now represented by Rep. Tom Reed (R-Corning).

      • Nephilium

      • juris imprudent

Democrat votes are easily whipped up by invoking Republican bogeymen. And works in reverse too. We are run by two stupid tribes of voters.

      • Rat on a train

It’s in reference to Maryland Democrats gerrymandering House districts to go from 4-4 as late as 2003 to 7-1 today. They got rid of 2 after the 2000 Census and another after 2010. Will they be able to get rid of the last with the 2020? The last time I looked, proportionally based on registration, it should be a 5-3 split. Maybe, depending on distribution, you could go +- 1. But look at their districts. Look at the history from the 70’s to present.

      • robc

KY does a lot of dumb shit, but the state supremes did something smart 30 years back. They require minimum splitting of counties.

You can still play lots of gerrymandering games (and 10 years ago when both parties each controlled one state house, they both did) but you can’t get districts like that. The Ds got to play state house games and the Rs state senate games. The D games slowed down, but didn’t stop, the Rs taking control of it too.

Although with a D governor right now, the Rs won’t get to go too crazy this time around.

      • kbolino

If the 2020 election results are anything to go by*, then it won’t be difficult. Every county (even deep red far Western MD and north/central Eastern Shore) turned in more votes for Biden than Obama. According to the 2013 CPVI listed on Wikipedia, we’ve got D+29 and D+27 districts against the only Republican district at R+14. Take those down to D+15 and you can flip the R+14 to D+12. And likely nobody in the press will bat an eye (except to run interference).

        * = If you trust these results, I have a couple bridges for sale

My entire goal is to finish liquidating one of my investment accounts so I can buy a freaking house outright. I don’t trust the gov’t not to raid my accounts eventually, so I want to convert to land ASAP and just be done with mortgages. When my Cali house sells eventually in a month or two, I don’t even know if i’ll put the proceeds in a Roth or just keep it in a regular investment account. @db

As strange as it will sound to our Old Dominion Glibs, I am in process of buying in SW VA just off the Blue Ridge Hwy. I’ve looked in many, many places and the locale is hard to beat. Proximity to Roanoke and Winston-Salem means city amenities when needed are within an hour drive. The climate is agreeable (far enough south to reduce winter’s bite, high enough altitude to keep summer from sweltering). The place we’re under contract on is almost 25 acres with a nice stream (brook trout) and a good spring (which I intend to feed into a pond) and a 3 BR, 1 BA cottage (in good condition) plus some outbuildings. We’re getting in under $200K (though we will be investing in some upgrades – new roof within a year). When we cash out of our current domicile my plan is to build (when the cost has come back down) and use the cottage as income property.

      • R C Dean

That is some seriously beautiful country, JI, and that sounds like a sweet spread at a very good price. If/when I could find something comparable in AZ, I’d be hard pressed not to spring for it.

Note on new roofs: Homeowners insurance typically covers weather damage to roofs. If you have ANY weather damage, have a roofing contractor come out in winter for asphalt shingles (they are less flexible) meet your insurance adjuster to determine if you qualify for a new roof.

        It will save you $$$$.

      • kinnath

I just want to hold the property for 10 years and then sell it.

My brother is far less risk than having strangers in the house who can’t be evicted because fedgov says so.

Watch your tax liability on that 401k withdraw.

      • kinnath

Taking money out of a 401K during peak earning years — generally a dumb idea.

Leaving money in a 401K while hyperinflation destroys it or while the government decides to steal it — even dumber.

It’s a small amount of money at this point. We’ll get all the purchase money back in rent in about 10 years and still have the house.

Diversification — we should all celebrate diversity.

      • Loveconstitution1789

Not sure of your financial situation but if youre under a certain age then a 401k loan to do what you wanted effectively sells your portfolio at the high and no taxes. If youre over a certain age, then 401k withdrawals are income and you can use tax strategies to keep your tax bill low.

I agree that hyperinflation will be a destructive problem soon but it will affect everyone, including politicians.

Well, I have two hours of work tomorrow. No morning gig–teachers are getting vaccinated so I’ve got that off. Just essay writing classes at my main gig. Pretty stupid, in my and me predecessor’s opinion, but it’s what the boss wants us to do on Fridays.

Then I have a 5-day weekend. Korean Thanksgiving (Chuseok) is next Tues and everyone has Mon-Wed off. I have no idea what I’m going to do. My friend, a lady that I’m quite interested in and have known/been friends with for several years has invited me to go to the beach and she also plans to go to Seoul to eat out one of the days off. HRM. Very confused. She has never expressed any romantic interest in me…as it were, but I tried before and I’ve had it on the back-burner of my mind but I’ve not acted on anything, as she previously rejected my advances years ago. But last few times we’ve hung out I’ve given her foot/leg/back massages and she paid them back. But it was just so friends-being-friends, but that’s a very odd thing for friends to be doing…HRM. She’s a strange one. Very smart, legally-trained and versed, short-and-cute with German/Indian roots but raised in Minnesota.

I think it would be foolish to not go along for the ride…but she’s always given me the “I’m not in relationship-mode” vibe. But those massages…so strange. I might have to make another move, but they always were turned down in the past. We get along philosophically and I’m trying to get her to come to our little spot here in space. She’s def a Glib. It’s why we intelligently get along so well.

Sorry for long post, that isn’t at all related to anything! It’s nearly 10pm here and I don’t have work until 3pm tomorrow, and even then just for two cushy hours of relative nonsense. No early work tomorrow, which means I’ll be up later than usual tonight. My Chicago Cubs suck and it bothers me tremendously.

Last evening, I was watching the SpaceX launch feed, and after the SECO I had to walk away to eat dinner. When I came back to the computer, the live stream was still going, but it was a supposedly live interview with Elon Musk, but inset into a red background with a bunch of scammy-looking text about how if you send bitcoin or ether to an address, Elon Musk will send you back double the amount. It included what seemed an obviously fake tweet from Musk to that effect, along with some likely bogus quotes from him about the future of the price of crypto. It contained a text web address (but no link) to ms-gives dot net, also probably bogus.

I mentioned it in the comments to Creosote’s post and someone mentioned it’s a long running scam.

What I’m interested in is how it even happens. How is it possible to take the URL for a legit live stream and have a scam video run on that URL after the original livestream has (presumably) ended? All the metadata around the stream appeared to be legit, such as the channel name etc.

This morning I looked for a video coverage of the launch and found another one, which is also doing a similar thing (bordering a Musk interview with crypto giveaway crap).

How does Youtube manage to miss crap like this? It seems more than capable of cutting out other messages it deems “inaccurate.”

Sourwood Mountain by The Carolina Chocolate Drops: That was fucking badass. Strongly similar to Old Crow Medicine Show, who are absolutely fantastic. I don’t listen to that style frequently, but these guys and OCMShow bring it fast, hard and loose. Simply tremendous.

The only problem is that as a drummer I don’t have a drummer to hear/listen and learn from. Kinda tempted to post the demos that one of my bands “released.” Recorded on our own in a basement studio and traveled around Korea on weekends just playing at ex-pat bars. That one was a lot close to rock/metal. But my last band was just me and a pianist. No vocals or anything else. I’ve been in seven official bands but have performed jamming countless times. One of my favorite aspects of my reality. Damn COVID has pretty much shut down all music over here. Curfew now is at 10pm and everything’s gotta close by then. Fucking stupid as hell.

First they blocked covid treatment with hydroxicloroquine, then Ivermectin, now Health and Human Services made the announcement earlier this month that they were taking full control over Monoclonal Antibody drugs (mAb) in order to begin rationing.

They really, really do not want any effective treatment for covid out there. And I’ve lost all respect for the 90%+ of doctors who played along. No more getting better fast like Joe Rogan.

    • Tonio

“And I’ve lost all respect for the 90%+ of doctors who played along.”

Here’s how I think that worked. At first the average doc reflexively supported what was coming out of Washington, because it was fellow doctors saying that. Nobody questioned the research, the narrative, or anything else. Why should they? Their fellow MDs could never lie, or be wrong. Of course there was no way those yokels could be right about treatment options. Then as the realization that they had been played slowly dawned they realized there was no escape. The entire medical industry was marching in lock-step with Fauci.

It’s just like when docs collude to cover each others asses for botched treatment or bad diagnosis.

I know many here are skeptical of Truth and Reconciliation commissions, but we need these people, the rank and file docs, to go on record and say they were wrong. The unspoken bargain is that they never open their mouths in public again.

      • db

Some of this comes from professional standards where the holders of licenses are prohibited from reviewing or criticizing another license holder’s work. As I recall, in PA, licensed Professional Engineers are prohibited from this activity–they’re allowed to talk about professional standards and whether a particular solution met those standards, but, as I recall, not specifically denigrate another’s work. I’d imagine the licensing boards for medicine have similar requirements.

It’s been a while since I sat for the EIT, and I never bothered to get the PE (it’s not useful or necessary in my particular line of work), so I might be a hair wrong about that.

      • Contrarian P

Yes, they do. It’s completely inappropriate to trash another doctor’s work unless it’s done through a formal process. Doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot of backbiting and Monday morning quarterbacking. Often, I’ve gotten a patient who said their doctor wanted a test that made absolutely zero sense to me. Once I called that physician and they explained their reasoning, it all made sense. If I had trashed the other doc to the patient, not only would I have been needlessly wrecking that patient’s relationship with their doctor, I’d also end up looking like a fool when I finally got the call from that doc.

I don’t have any particular loyalty to other physicians and a lot of the doctors I know don’t (not that I speak for all or even most of us), so I have no idea where the idea of some medical code of silence came from. I can’t say that I’ve ever seen that. Usually when there’s a case of a really and obviously bad physician, it’s been the hospital management that has shuffled them off to another facility like the Pope used to do with the pedophiles. The other doctors will refuse to send patients to that physician or decline to work with him.

Unfortunately there are a lot of cases in medicine where the obvious thing is only obvious once all the information is laid out after the bad outcome, or when a reasonable approach just turns out to be wrong. A plaintiff’s attorney can make the most careful physician look like Hannibal Lecter. As an example, I’m an ER doc. Last night alone I had a patient who came in with a headache that has been present for many years demanding that I perform a CT scan that was already going to be ordered by her outpatient physician. She’s been to the ER for the same headache multiple times in the past month and had a CT less than six months ago. I refused to order the study, because basically she didn’t want to wait for her doctor to get prior auth from her insurance company. Now yes, there’s a tiny chance that there’s something really wrong that would have been uncovered by me doing a scan last night, but it’s dishonest to defraud the insurance company that way and a waste of our resources. If it does turn out that there’s a bad outcome, I’m going to have to defend myself. I’m sure there are some doctors that will take my side and some that will take the patient’s. That’s how it works with damn near anything.

      • Drake

        Thank you for that info.

I’d love to know what kind of latitude you have. A patient shows up a few days into a covid infection…. Could you prescribe the Joe Rogan cocktail if you thought it best, or are you limited?

      • Contrarian P

Yes and no. You’ve got to find a pharmacy that’ll fill it and often there are edicts from the Board of Pharmacy that make that very difficult. Also State Medical Boards are starting to threaten to suspend or discipline physicians for “spreading misinformation” which includes prescribing the “wrong” medicines. Also, as an ER doc I work in a hospital who often mandates that we order certain things (they say they don’t, but they’re completely full of it). Further, a lot of insurance companies won’t pay for many of the treatments and patients are always shocked that this stuff actually costs money if they have to pay cash. Rogan could afford basically whatever treatment he wants.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

What’s the current approved standard for early treatment of COVID, if there is one?

Restaurants’ plans to return diners to indoor tables are unraveling.

Chains such as McDonald’s Corp. and Chick-fil-A Inc. are slowing their dining rooms’ reopenings, given the Delta-driven surge in Covid-19 infections. Other restaurants are again losing customers, and trying to squeeze more diners into outdoor patios while weather still allows.

I predict a virus theater resurgence with the return of flu season.

Mask mandates are not ending for years, and we will likely get “lockdown lite” this winter at some point. Utterly fucked.

    • Loveconstitution1789

I know many of you live in lockdown areas but here in Georgia, most fast food restaurants have had indoor seating open and not restricted for distance for most of 2021.

We have been back to normal most of 2021 and even in 2020, its was hit and miss on which companies did what with distance seating or other restrictions.

I also suspect that corporate food chains are using revenue from open states to subsidize their restaurant’s Kabuki theater in lockdown states.

I was listening yesterday to Vivek Ramaswamy’s “Woke Inc”, and one of the things he brought up was how team blue circumvented the fact congress would not let Obama and his people raid the US coffers with the impunity they wanted to pay off their vote buying machine, by concocting a scheme that allowed them to both claim they came down hard on the evil Wall Street entities that they accused of causing the 2007 housing crash their political class had caused by forcing lenders to provide loans to people very likely not to be able to pay them back, and steer huge gobs of cash to the entities they wanted to pay off. So we all heard how they “punished” the lending entities with some record setting fines (billions of dollars) and how they claimed they took a strong stance against the machine. What they really did was steer money to the entities they wanted to see survive, while they gobbled up the ones they didn’t want to see survive, and then came up with a scheme where the fines they imposed on the survivors, the fines collected never really got repaid to the treasury.

The scam allowed these entities fined, if they chose to do what Obama’s people wanted instead of paying off the treasury, to donate money to charities (all picked by Obama’s people) and then claim tax deductions for those donations, while the DOJ counted the donations as anything from double to triple the money donated towards the fine payments. For example, Bank of America, fined some 11 billion by the “though” Obama admin enforcers, donated about $3 billion to a bunch of Obama connected “charities” (read near criminal entities), deduct that amount from their taxes, and square away their obligation to the US treasury, all without giving back a single penny of that money to the US tax payer, while then getting some real cool PR from those donations. This racket allowed Obama’s admin to rip the US taxpayers off – on top of the $2 trillion the “too big to fail” racket parceled out to chosen entities after they came calling on the fact government promised to bail them out in return for them not caring about the risk of loaning money to people highly likely to never be able to pay it back – to the tune of billions of dollars, all while funneling huge amounts of cash from Wall Street to some of the most corrupt entities in the country, with nobody in the know.

Every time I think I understand how corrupt our government is, and how evil and vile the Obama admin was, I find out that we have not even gotten close to seeing the depravity of that entity. No wonder they were so fucking pissed Trump cock-blocked their plans to let Hillary have her turn fucking the US tax payer in the ass.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

The BOA settlement should have ended up with half of the Obama DOJ in prison.

Christopher Miller, who was Donald Tump’s acting Secretary of Defense at the time of the calls, said he “did not and would not ever authorize” the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to hold “secret” conversations with the Chinese defense chief. In a statement to Fox News, Miller said the alleged calls were a “disgraceful and unprecedented act of insubordination.” Miller added that the chairman should resign “immediately.”

Since he’s Trump’s acting Secretary of Defense, nothing will happen.

I know, I’m going out on a limb here.

Peaceful protesters caught in the maelstrom of the January 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol are being held as “political prisoners” and are being persecuted by law enforcement, says a plurality of American voters.

    And nothing else will happen.

If successful, the proposal would cut the number of GOP House members from the Empire State in half — from eight to four — because it also eliminates the district now represented by Rep. Tom Reed (R-Corning).

Pretty soon they’ll be like Massachusetts.

The local brewpub is still pretty busy.

We just lost another brewery here in Cleveland. Not a huge loss, since they were mediocre and surrounded by (to my tastes at least) much better breweries. Still sad to watch a business that people poured their heart and soul into need to close due to government policies and issues.

      • Rat on a train

My advice is identify your minimum standards. Don’t compromise on those. Quickly assess those and move on if they aren’t met. Don’t go on for long thinking you can change someone. Dating isn’t about going out and having fun. You do that with friends. Also, if you meet someone that meets your standards, don’t hold out for your ideal candidate. You are unlikely to ever meet your dream match.

Her family was somewhat supportive and around.
if anything ever happened to me, she would be able to take care of the kids.

The “take care of the kids” was my biggest one and wound up ending a few relationships with some really awesome, beautiful women who just couldn’t get their shit together, whether mostly financially. Let’s face it, all women are crazy, they just happen to be different kinds of crazy. In a 10 year hind sight, thank god I had no exceptions to that rule.

Intellectually, my SO is a hardline authoritarian who bases her views of sound bites, in other words, she’s one of them. I occasionally point out her bullshit but I do my best to keep it civil between us and around the kiddos. She’s smart. She’s just intellectually lazy or perhaps just too busy to deep dive into why she believes what she believes. That and cognitive dissonance is a really addictive drug.

While I can appreciate the ability for some (many?) to commit to a long-term relationship with someone that doesn’t share fundamental philosophical values, for me that’s a no-go.

Not talking about giving a political exam to the other person – that’s equally distasteful no matter what “side” does it – but evaluating whether there is enough overlap for fundamental compatibility.

What constitutes that compatibility is the criteria that is will shift pretty radically among different people, and that’s fine. You just need to determine what those non-negotiables are for YOU.

  45. Pope Jimbo

Good news for all you haters out there. Minnesoda Supremem Court says 3rd degree murder charges can’t be brought against someone who just hated one person.

Mohamed Noor had his conviction for 3rd degree murder reversed because the judges said you can’t have general depraved indifference to a person’s death when your hate was directed at one particular person. Seems like some arglebargle to me, but I’m not a lawyer.

Noor still has a second degree murder conviction to serve out, so it isn’t like he is going to walk out of prison. The interesting point will be to see if Chauvin also gets his 3rd degree conviction tossed too. The way I read the ruling, I don’t see how he doesn’t.

    Actions have consequences.

President Joe Biden’s administration is taking steps to require millions of American workers, including certain healthcare workers, to get a COVID-19 vaccine. The plan requires those who work at hospitals and other types of medical facilities that receive Medicare and Medicaid funding to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

Brownfield (Texas) Regional Medical Center, a rural hospital, will lose up to 25 percent of its employees if the vaccine mandate is enforced, CEO Jerry Jasper told KCBD.

Losing those workers would probably shut down the hospital because some nurses have already quit to take jobs with nursing agencies that offer higher pay, according to the report.

Not complying with the vaccine mandate and losing Medicare and Medicaid funding isn’t an option for Brownfield Regional Medical Center. About 80 percent of the hospital’s funding comes from Medicare and Medicaid, Mr. Jasper told KCBD.

    NYT- Commifornia recall election results

Its funny that the Commies in MSM are declaring a landslide for Newsome. He probably won and we expected Democrats to make sure their Commie leader for Commifornia won.

Theyre still counting votes and only some 10M votes came in so far out of ~22M registered voters. The longer they count, the closer to yes for recall they get. They are at 63.8% to 36.2%.

Newsome is only 13.8% from being recalled. I would call that a win but not a landslide.

    • Toxteth O'Grady

If it keeps him from higher office…

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

He’ll use anything bigger than a squeaker to say his leadership style and policies were given a mandate and he’s justified in doing so. Hopefully it ends up being a lot closer than that.

    • Ownbestenemy

Newsome – “Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about formal authority of setting the tone and tenor on masks — on vaccines and masks. But it’s the moral authority that we have: that we’re on the right side of history and we’re doing the right thing to save people’s lives.”

Coming from any politician, that is a damn scary statement.

      • Loveconstitution1789

The Democrat Party is the Party of slavery. The Democrats said shit like that back in the 1860s just like they do now.

They are liars and always have been. Luckily, less and less people believe their lies.

    • R C Dean

Any margin over 10% is traditionally a landslide.

I have to admit, I’m shocked at the margin so far.

      • Loveconstitution1789

Maybe. I mean the Founders has 3 standards for Legislative acts: Simple majority, 2/3 majority, and 3/4 majority.

I just think in what most Americans consider a solid Democrat state like Commifornia, 13% from Newsome being recalled is a serious problem.

    • KSuellington

Maybe it gets to 60/40. It really doesn’t matter as no matter what he is going to use this as proof that all of his COVID hysteria was correct, if anything he should have locked down and masked harder. The national Dems are also going to see it for the same way, if you live in a heavily blue area then expect restrictions to continue and to get worse when they want them to. I didn’t have much hope that he would be recalled, but I did think it would be a lot closer, which may have given the commies some pause. Now the brakes can really come off.

      • Loveconstitution1789

Thats the thing. I think Lefty brakes have been off for years. Their momentum has just picked up but so has pushback to slow them down. I really think America is the clown car speeding along with Democrats in the drivers seat, RINOs like McConnell in the back seat, in denial Americans hanging onto the mirrors and side, and American Patriots waiting down the road at a roadblock.

      • Loveconstitution1789

Oh and there is a fork in the road that leads to the cliff of hyperinflation.

Democrats get to choose to run the car off a cliff or into an impassible blockade that will stop the car forever.

        Which direction will they choose?

    • Toxteth O'Grady

Thanks anyway for your $1000 (1100?), DEG.

      • DEG

        You’re welcome!

I think with the money I kicked in for the recall petitioning, it was more than $1100 total, but oh well. I’ve spent more money on things that went even worse than this.

I expect the Recall Newsom folks are going to morph their organization to take on other fights.

  56. Ownbestenemy

Wonder if I could use the words of the Commerce Secretary when she said ‘Nobody is Being Forced’ to get a vaccine. While technically true and I know that is how they will spin it, I am in fact being forced to get vaccinated under threat of losing employment.

Other than that, it is a good day. I have sealed my fate here at work and come the 22nd, my boss will be forced to hound me on why I haven’t attested to my status. She will then have to initiate disciplinary procedures. At that point, I have to see if I can retire early by Nov 22nd.

Another young person killed by the ‘vid.

Wendell and Eskew wanted to start a family as soon as they got married, Eskew, a correctional sergeant, said. The couple, of Grand Rivers, Kentucky, hoped to eventually have three, maybe four, children.

So when the Covid-19 vaccines came out, and some of Wendell’s co-workers said the shots caused infertility — an unfounded claim that has gained ground despite top reproductive health groups refuting it — she “just kind of panicked,” Eskew, 29, said.

Wendell decided they should hold off on their vaccinations. It was a choice that cost her her life: Instead of attending her wedding, which was supposed to be on Aug. 21, her family is now planning her funeral.

And she had absolutely no comorbidity known to make the disease worse…

This happened to my acquaintance from college recently. I saw on the Facebooks that he was on a ventilator. I thought he was a goner. The posts said he was fully vaccinated.

Admittedly, this dude had type 2 diabetes, had become morbidly obese, etc. He is not the pillar of health.

He’s off the ventilator now thank Allah.

But to his credit he never tried to blame the unvaccinated for his plight.

      • Ownbestenemy

He is lucky. Diabetes and the Vid are not a good combo. Coworker died because of it and *get out your shock face* he was vaccinated.

“Like anyone can even know that, Napoleon.”

      • Urthona

I’m keenly interested in this. It looks like last month — of the serious hospitalizations — 20% were fully vaccinated. It’s going up.

I’m not sure what to “root for” exactly because you know that’s going to be used to justify getting boosters under the unproven assumption the vaccine is weakening over time and not over the assumption that the virus is getting resistant.

      • CPRM

In her obituary, a family says a mother’s Covid-19 death could have been prevented if more people were vaccinated

“Candace Cay (Kruger) Ayers, 66, of Springfield, passed away on September 3, 2021, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was preceded in death by more than 4,531,799 others infected with Covid-19. She was vaccinated but was infected by others who chose not to be. The cost was her life.”

So if you get the vaccine you die, but you still have to get the vaccine.

    • Urthona

About the infertility thing… I mean I think it’s bullshit. It probably is.

      But..

Understand I was in the Pfizer phase 3 trials. I signed up immediately when I could. It meant I had a moral duty to not wear my mask and go expose myself to the virus and be free. I was already sick of COVID last summer.

When I signed up, not only could you not be a woman trying to have a baby… you could not be a man trying to have a baby with a woman.

It was one of the test requirements. You were trying to have a baby (or were pregnant)… you were out. They explained that they didn’t want to have to deal with all that.

Now it’s possible that they’ve had more tests since then. It’s possible that they’ve collected lots of data on people trying to have babies.

      ..

But why not admit early on that they have no clue what their drug would do to fertility or pregnant people because they didn’t even study it?

      • db

I was concerned about the possible fertility effects as well. Still am, but a little less now.

Anecdote: An employee of mine just told me recently she is pregnant. We offered a vaccine clinic back in April (Moderna), and I know she got the vax then, and the second dose in mid May. By the timing she told me, she likely conceived in late June or early July, and has made it around 11 or 12 weeks. So, I’m hopeful for her and others that there is no fertility effect.

      • R C Dean

If anyone has actually studied this, I haven’t heard about. I suspect this is yet another pronouncement ex rectum by The Experts(tm).

      • R C Dean

        To expand:

If, as I suspect, nobody has studied it, then “the vax will make you sterile” and “the vax has no effect on fertility” are equally unfounded. We just don’t know. Which means a decision not to get vaxxed because you are concerned about its effect on fertility is perfectly rational and valid.

      • Ownbestenemy

There are no valid excuses for not getting vaxxed /FedGov managers

      • DEG

On the Bret Weinstein podcast with Robert Malone and the guy whose name I can’t remember, one of them showed data on where the spike protein accumulated in vaccinated person’s bodies. I remember in women there was a huge amount in ovaries, but not a similar accumulation in men in testes.

That’s the extent of actual data that I know of concerning fertility and the vaccines.

On Monday afternoon, New Hampshire Representative Mike Sylvia officially submitted language to the Office Of Legislative Services for a constitutional amendment concurrent resolution (CACR). If the amendment passes the House and Senate with 60% of the vote in each chamber, it would be placed on the ballot in the November 2022 statewide election. If 66% of the voters choose to accept the amendment into the NH Constitution, it would immediately be added to our state’s governing document, and the Live Free or Die State would officially sever all ties with Washington DC, becoming a self-governing nation-state.

Re housing. We’re starting to look for a place to rent soon. Last year, the available places with 3 bedrooms, at least 1 bathroom and allows cats in my zip code and a neighboring zipcode (not a lot of land coverage) were in the single digits, but their prices were commensurate with our mortgage payment.

This year the prices have gone up by at least $200/month, but there are 31 of them. I’m not sure how a sudden surge in supply ALSO goes with a rise in price.

    • R C Dean

Maybe supply is lagging price? People see the prices going up, and decide its worth it to rent out their property? Then, there’s a glut, and prices come down.

      • Mojeaux

Possibly. This is a higher-end area to begin with because of the good schools, but there are lower-end rentals too (every municipality has its form of “blight” relative to the surrounding area). Even these are asking for proof of net income 3x rent. Gross? Sure. Net? That’s new from last year.

Renting is risky for homeowners and this is amplified depending on which state. Some homeowners looking to rent try to raise rent to get a certain type of renter. I would bet insurance to cover loss from renters has gone up just like everything else. We had to bump our homeowners insurance by 20% this year to cover rebuild costs if a total loss.

Also some local jurisdictions use HOAs to limit the total number of properties that can be rented at any one time.

      • db

That’s what we did after a particularly difficult eviction. We raised the rent to what we weren’t sure would get a tenant, but we wanted to make sure any tenant who wanted in was willing to pay for quality rather than trash the place. It worked.
