Sunday Morning Hastily Thrown Together Non-Believer Links

by | Oct 3, 2021 | Daily Links | 121 comments

Sunday Morning Nut-Punch: If I have to do AM links, you people get to suffer with me. Police beat Florida Man for taking video of them beating a man in handcuffs, at least one of the parties was drinking Gatorade.

They did this really neat ADHD study, but I kind of spaced out and started fidgeting.

New York Post: Violent anti-maskers make life a living hell for flight attendants. Womp-womp. You could work at the DMV if you wanted to treat your customers like shit, but you wouldn’t get to travel to fun places for free.

Lame, sparse, but there you go. Off-topic limits suspended for this post.

Non ADHD people don’t do the spinny chair thing when they’re bored? I hope this experiment had a control group.

    • ElspethFlashman

I am unsure whether I have ADHD or not – but here’s my “tendencies” – when I wait for something to happen, I doodle; I am an incessant list – maker; I can focus on something to the point where I forget to use the bathroom for hours on end… (my neighbor said I’d be the kid who peed her pants in the sand box in kindergarten.)

      • Zwak, sensual panzer

I doodle and will often forget to eat. Hard no on the peepee pants.

    • R.J.

Haha! Well said. Was it Disney Star Wars or vintage Star Wars? Also what timing. Last night I cracked the joke that I’d rather watch Robo Vampire than The Last Jedi.

      • Chafed

        That’s just common sense.

Yeah, from the photos, it’s painfully obvious that these chicks are oppressed. ?

Kelly has been called a “b–ch” on the job.

Nice to see you as well! Why am I awake anyway? I was up till 2 spinning in my chair.

So that study shows ADHD kids should only watch movies?

Like the Nuremburg Rally, only worse

Chants of “F*** Joe Biden” rained down from the crowd at Alabama’s Talladega Superspeedway after Brandon Brown captured his first NASCAR Xfinity Series race victory.

The anti-Biden chants came during Brown’s post-race interview. After Brown told a reporter his victory was a “dream come true,” the crowd began to loudly shout in unison their displeasure with the president.

    ——-

The “F— Joe Biden” chant has surfaced at sporting events across the United States — mainly in southern states — and has been especially popular at college football games where tens of thousands of fans have been packing stadiums in defiance of the Biden administration’s strict coronavirus guidelines.

Ungrateful stinking backwoods Nazis. Joe loves them and wants to make them into better people.

Why do they spurn their savior?

    • rhywun

      wut

I don’t recall Biden decreeing anything of the sort.

The state attorney’s office concurred with this view and has since dropped any charges of resisting an arrest with violence and impeding a police investigation.

Which means that, after they kicked his ass for no reason, the thugs filed charges of resisting arrest and impeding an investigation. Nice.

    • EvilSheldon

The cops (and the county prosecutor, who’s equally responsible) know how the system works – advantage goes to the first person to file charges.

In the video, a visibly distressed Vaughn can be heard telling officers “You all beat me for no reason.” An unnamed officer can be heard responding “We beat you for a reason” on the clip, which comes from a police body camera.

The reason was the cops felt like it.

    • R.J.

It’s early, but I did nor see the referenced video linked in the article. the video embedded was a press conference about the video. Am I missing it?

Re the ADHD “study”. I think, first, that what it demonstrates is pure boredom, not ADHD.

I also don’t believe he’d sit there quietly and still and watch a movie without something in his hands to play with (har har) like a Luke doll or trading cards or something else that will keep his mind busy.

I have ADHD. So for instance, I’m sitting there editing my little medical transcription reports, and the second a doctor pauses to gather his thoughts, I’m off clicking my usual rounds of links or checking Glibs for new comments or hitting up FB or Twitter. I can’t stand to sit there for more than half a second (no exaggeration) waiting for the doc to get his shit together.

I will NOT watch TV without some crafting going on, either cross stitch or crochet. I CAN make do with my iPad, but I cannot be engaged in just one thing. I must have music to go walking because it keeps my mind off how huffy and puffy I am getting. I also must have music or the TV when I’m doing housework.

It is absolutely not possible for me to go without engaging my mind and my hands/body at the same time. If something gets boring (and it does so very quickly), I will immediately find something else to engage with.

Thus, the “study” doesn’t tell me anything about ADHD and everything about how much the kid doesn’t want to deal with the math video.

    • CPRM

If I’m sober I’ll wander off and do something else, if I’m drinking I’ll usually stay engaged and only get up for more beer/bathroom breaks. So my scientific conclusion is give kids beer. Makes bed time easier too.

      • Mojeaux

        Makes bed time easier too.

        Children’s Tylenol #FTW!

    • R.J.

Very true. I also have it, and even if I am engaged I have to stand up and walk around every 15 minutes or so. I’d rather do that than meds. All it shows is the kid has bad taste in movies. Also let’s see this math video! How crappy is it?

    Speaking of non-believers…

This occurred to me as I was flipping and flopping in bed at about four am:

Being an atheist means you do not believe in god(s); it in no way requires you to despise people who are religious. Some people can’t grasp that.

Last night Spud linked an article about the potential endangered status of the American bumblebee.

    https://www.foxnews.com/us/american-bumblebee-could-soon-be-declared-endangered

This is a classic case of the reporter now knowing what the hell they are writing about, and environmental groups lying and deceiving to scare the masses and push their agenda.

The American Bumblebee, bombus pennsylvanicus, is just one of about 250 species of bumblebees and not even the most prevalent. It has lost some territory and declined in numbers, so the Xerces Society and other environmental groups have jumped on this and try to portray as if all bumblebees are possibly going extinct. “The American Bumblebee is going extinct!”

The Common Eastern Bumblebee, bombus impatiens, is the most common one as it’s name implies and is increasing in numbers according to a friend of mine who is a real life expert on bumblebees. He’s sold hundreds of thousands of bumblebee hives to farmers for pollination and profit.

    Dog park drama:

Apparently one of the regulars had her dog taken and was assaulted a couple of nights back. This happened just a few minutes after I left. I only have the victim’s side of the story, and frankly she’s a bit crazy. I don’t really like her. And yet I seem to have included her into an “us” category, at least insofar as being assaulted by “not-us” is concerned.

So now I’m thinking about what would have happened had I been there. My thinking mind tells me if I had been there, absolutely nothing would have happened, since the mere presence of another person would have deterred anything from happening. Especially since the two people who carried out the attack were female. But… what if they went ahead anyway? Would I have made things worse? Even though I don’t like the victim, I do consider her part of “my” group (and I like her dog). Exactly how much trouble would I have gotten into in an altercation with an 18 and a 40-something pair of women?

    • Ted S.

Lily would have subdued the assailants.

      • Not Adahn

I would like to think that.

      • Ted S.

Maybe not subdue in the Doberman way.

Our dearly departed shih tzu mix was extremely friendly. He’d try to jump up on people; being twice the size of a normal shih tzu, he had a tendency to just scratch people unintentionally instead.

    • Tulip

They took her dog? Did she get it back?

      • Not Adahn

        Yes.

Honestly I don’t know what details about the perpetrators are correct. The victim described them as being the owners of some dogs which I recognized. However, someone who is more sane than the victim recognized the description of the offenders and said that they had different dogs.

The park police arrived during the assault. No arrests were made. The dog was returned. Apparently the 18 year old daughter was videoing everything? I guess I could check the local police blotter.

  21. Fourscore

I’m at a loss. A picture of a honey bee and an article about bumble bees. I’m totally not familiar with a bumblebee hive. Again, the $217 “hive”

is called a ‘nuke’ , usually 6 or 8 frames, with a viable egg laying queen, mature bees, larva and eggs. In other words, a mini-colony of honey bees, ready to go to work. We buy them @ $145 and transfer the frames to a 10 frame Langstroth and go from there. Quite frankly, I’ve never seen a bumblebee hive or nest.

Looks like the scam(mers) leading the unknowing down a path of fools, money, parting.

    • Fourscore

Yellow jackets/wasps/mud dubbers will make a nest, sometimes on your garage or in a hole, to be discovered when you run over the nest with your lawn mower. Every smart kid has thrown rocks at a nest, until one day… Part of free ranging

    • Tulip

I thought bumblebees nest in the ground?

    • PudPaisley

Bumblebee hives are much smaller, but fairly equivalent to a honeybee hive in the amount of pollination produced by a hive. Bumblebees have a much higher success rate at pollinating a plant at each stop. All that fur and buzzing they do increase the success rate.

The main crop farmers that use bumblebees are cranberries, blueberries, and the cucurbits (watermelon, pumpkin, squash, etc). These flowers are less desirable to honeybees, who will go to other plant flowers if available. Bumblebees are just going for pollen, so the type of flower is not as important to them.

Bumblebees are also used for other crops like apples as a supplement pollinator and “insurance policy” in case temps are cold during flowering. Bumblebees will stay active to temps close to freezing whereas honeybees don’t like working in cold weather.

One good aspect of buying bumblebees is that they are practically maintenance free. You get the hives fully developed a couple weeks before the pollination period, put them out in the fields, and let them do their thing. You also don’t have to move them if you plan to spray your crops. You can close off the exit hole the day before, and then open it when you are done spraying. The hives have a one way entrance hole to enter but not get back out.

      • Loveconstitution1789

We have tons of bumbleebees that roam our property. They cover themselves in pollen and then lumber off like drunk drivers.

  22. The Late P Brooks

Apparently one of the regulars had her dog taken and was assaulted a couple of nights back.

And I leap to the assumption all were previously known to one another.

    • Not Adahn

Nope. The victim is an every-day attendee, the perpetrators had been there once, or possibly twice. I honestly couldn’t have told you anything about them, though I can describe their dogs. That probably says something about me.
