Good morning my Glibs and Gliberinas! And what a wonderful morning it always is!

That’s because young folks in CA have found under the table work in professional looting.

I have it on good authority that the SUV responsible for this will be held fully accountable.
All red SUVS will be banned, especially the ones where the pedestrian “goes up”!
I’ve heard AOC is going to introduce a bill next week to ban all red SUVs.
/sarc …. maybe
Just the red ones? Nah… she’ll ban all of them — except the black ones for the King’s Men, of course.
Listen, all reasonable people agree that you need a license to own something dangerous, like a gun.
SUVs are dangerous.
Thus, there should be a license required to buy an SUV, and you need to show a “special need” (like being a government official) to get said license.
Who are you, who are so wise in the ways of Tyranny?
And having an SUV with a scary black bumper?
That is totally out.
Any SUV with more than two of the following is banned:
Black bumpers
Folding mirrors
Heated seats
Moonroof
Roof rack
Bayonet lugs

Holy Shit! CNBC actually reported that? Wow.
Cracks in the facade? One can only hope.
CNBC v. CNN catfight!
Fax machine from Central Command ran out of ink.
The cuomo name is no longer of value to the media. So burning him gives the illusion of fairness.
Good point. He’s no longer connected.
The fact that NYT refuses to burn the “sources” that said Sicknick was murdered means something. I personally believe it means that the sources don’t exist.
Since when does a police department not make a huge announcement when one of their own dies in the line of duty?
Capital capitol murder and no word from the prosecutors’ office?
Sicknick’s body lay in state at the Capitol – they got all they needed from that. No need to bother with pesky details like murder charges.
Don’t blame me, I bought my lever gun on saturday.
dedthred con’t
According to Diane, her m3k has issues with underpowered ammo. It could be that the gun needs cleaning/lubricating. The initial loading misfeed that (happened once) may have been due to how I was loading it. If I didn’t jam that fifth shell in all the way, it could have sprung back onto the elevator. It’s probably safer in the future to drop one in the chamber before filling the magazine.
I got one. My GF got one.
Yesterday, I ordered some accessories.
Expensive hobbies, indeed.

I generally prefer my lever guns to be classic, but that one looks sweet.
And can hit targets at 400yds with subsonic .45-70
What did you buy?
Henry lever gun in .45 Colt, front-loader, with a red dot sight so I can actually hit the targets.
Shoots like a dream. Impossible to find ammo for.
Why Colt instead of Magnum?
It’s what they had in stock.
Ah
.45 LC has better internal ballistics than .44 magnum
If you lived in a civilized state, you could have .45 sitting on your doorstep in two days.
Midway and Surplus Ammo has it.
If I had known you were looking to buy immediately, I’d have suggested Zack’s — they have a larger selection of Henrys than Rob does.
But, as long as you’re happy with your purchase, that’s good.
Also Simmons ships to NY, and has ammo in stock. $1/round, but they have it.
I don’t know where you’re looking, their site tells me they’re out of stock.
And I decided to buy the evening before while I was trying to motivate myself to actually leave the house. I couldn’t remember the name of the other place to look up where it was.
This morning, they did not have that flag on it.
I am seriously considering becoming a “Keeper of Ammunition” so I can accept shipments of ammo.

The correct answer (which will get the application rejected) is ‘Nunya business’
I’ve been looking for a Cimarron 1892 Winchester clone in .45 Colt, but no luck. Plenty of them about but have yet to find a seller that will ship to Alaska – no idea why, other than the extra cost, which I’m paying.
I donno.
Have you thought of starting a firearms manufacturing business for the upper 1?
Not at my age.
Couldn’t we just get a reverse mortgage to cover the national debt? Pay it off from the sale of each politician’s home when they leave office, those that voted to approve the raising of the debt.
Maybe have a random lottery wherein the assets of 30% of all politicians who have voted to add to the Federal budget are liquidated annually. So they have a chance of surviving a few years in office before leaving and having their home sold off too.
*Including internal organs,
CCP: Hey! We already bought the rights to those pols. We ain’t paying twice.

That’s between you and your employer assuming he was doing it on company time, otherwise that’s not even their business. Not sure how it would qualify as abuse otherwise.

Governette Hokum acknowledged that hospitals will have to close because of a combo of her EMERGENCY order and her ‘Terminate the unclean” order. But she says it’s totes worth it.
It isn’t like she or her friends will be affected, so yeah, totes worth it.
The important people will still get all the treatments they need. Remember when Cuomo and friends were getting tested on the down low when no one else could? More of that.
How did you go from talking about Important people to mentioning Andy and co?
Hurting other people means you’re a tuff stronk leader!

Yep, not a car but Mama Gaia can hit back pretty hard…
I read that as “headline” and nodded. That’s basically all it is…just a headline. Nothing substantive, other than the continued and ever more rapid slide down into disaster, occurs related to it anymore.
Good morning, Banjos et alia!
Living in the state — I kind of wonder how many jobs CA chased out of the state in the past year or two. Small businesses almost certainly got decimated, and most of the Bay Area counties (don’t know SoCal, sorry) are still close to lockdown — all that office space is mostly idle. So you’ve got a lot of commercial real estate hurting – and all the nearby jobs. Plus from what I’ve seen, a lot of tech companies took advantage of the no-office mode to move to other states… then you’ve got the farmers fighting the eternal water battles, various livestock “bigger pens / free range” ballot measures kicking in, the trucker / shipping issues discussed prior… it frankly seems like they’re doing a good job of throttling the Golden Hate Bird (the Golden bird that Hates).
Looks at the Healthcare mandate… keeps hoping a judge will pipe up on the Contractor one. But with the FedGov employees proper one moving post-holidays as well, the optimistic side of me is thinking they’re aware of their bluff being called and all this will settle out. The pessimistic side is thinking they just don’t want to look like Ebenezer Scrooge’s wildest fever dreams pre-ghosting so they’re shifting post Christmas. We’ll see…
Dang… no birthday list. Well — how about one of the last honest journalists, an alternative diet promoter and a mostly lurking, loves a pun thread nutcase who has managed to hit the big L if he were Roman….
Nicely done!
Thanks, Festus! Think I’ll go watch Wrath of Khan again today… seems apropos and all.
Wondering the same about NY(C). And much like any numbers related to the plague, I don’t trust a single figure I see in the media.
Yesterday I read somewhere that the unemployment rate in NYC is 14% and I’m guessing it’s way higher than that even accounting for the number-fudging of that particular stat that was usual in the Before Times.
The unemployment rate is the people who A: have previously held a job, B: are not currently employed even 1 hour per week, and C: actively seeking employment. Anyone who was never employed, or stopped looking for work, or has a sliver of a gig job are not part of the unemployment rate.
How is this even determined? Do they do telephone polls or something? Because I never answer my telephone.
Probably some statistical estimate from the department of labor based upon applications for unemployment insurance payments.
A friend of a friend was a big wig at a local bank. One of his jobs was to provide data to the Fed about basic stuff like this. He said that he would spend a couple hours each month filling out the forms. He said he basically made up all the numbers. Some of the stats he sort of knew from his other work, but others he had no clue.
Since the accuracy of his data didn’t change his salary, he just made up numbers instead of actually tracking down what they really were.
He assumed that every other mid-level bank guy like him was doing the same.
There’s a fight building up here (and probably most places) between the city proper and the suburbs. With everyone shifting to the suburbs to WFH, the city stands to lose a huge chunk of income tax. There’s some fights going on at the statehouse about it as well, and several lawsuits that are pending to force the city to pay back the workers who were WFH for the past 20+ months (a bill was passed to allow the city to collect for a time, but the city kept collecting past that).
Happy L Day!! Yeah, I was stationed at Ft. Ord in the late ’80s and early ’90s and absolutely loved it; that stretch from Marin down to Big Sur was just heavenly. The current state of the Golden State is heartbreaking.

The only way we’re going to recover from this COVID labor shortage is to make it simultaneously illegal to be unemployed and unvaccinated, and to start cracking skulls.

I’m beginning to suspect that such numbers are generally horseshit.
Governette actually said that the reason there’s coof upstate is because we weren’t “90-100% vaccinated” like downstate is.
Yeah, I’m seeing “85%” being thrown out around here. I don’t buy that for a second.
For Ohio, I see numbers ranging from 54.5% to 90% depending on the story, and what the spin is.
LMAO
The virus ripped through “downstate” so bad that more than half the population already had natural immunity MONTHS before any vaccine was available. And since the vax was administered willy-nilly, the data about its effectiveness is all garbage and can never be otherwise – so naturally the full-of-shit will just credit the vax policies for any good numbers and completely ignore the fact that more than half the population already had immunity and the vax was a complete waste of time and money for them.
It may be accurate. It’s 90% of a much smaller number than a couple months ago. There are probably administrators thrilled at all the costs that got cut and not worried about the drop in service.
“My bonus is based on year over year reduction in outlays. It says nothing about any sick people.”
Heh… reminds me of every retail job I ever had or knew about — “This would be a great place to work if it weren’t for the customers!”
If not for the customers that job wouldn’t exist.
:mumbles “don’t explain the joke…”:
I’m tired, cranky, and distracted. I’ve also heard that line in utter earnestness from time to time.
Sorry about stepping on your joke.
Yeah, I know those administrators. I tell them, yeah, let’s just shut the plant down, zero cost achieved – will that make you happy?
The epitome of “You get more of what you measure”, I suppose. They’re just trying to manage to their metrics. 😉
“We want you to keep these applications at the current level.”
“Okay, we’ll need X FTEs and we’re at Y and dropping.”
“Your request for backfills and new hires has been denied, they cost too much. By the way, why are we not at current levels?”
“It requires X FTEs to maintain, and now will need vendor services to play catch-up.”
“Request denied, it costs too much. Why are we not at current levels?”
We had this new product line kick off. About a year into it, with endless battles with that line’s analyst over my labor costs, I finally told the analyst, “Dude, just make the labor cost zero. Are we competitive then?”
“Nope.”
“I guess labor’s not the problem.”
“You might be right.”
He didn’t last too much longer.
<https://wtop.com/virginia/2021/11/virginia-public-school-enrollment-drops-again-nearly-4-since-pandemic-hit/Fairfax Co. sees largest drop in Va. public school enrollment
Costs cut and no drop in funding!
If true, the 10% non-compliant make up 40% of the workforce hours that directly treat patients.
Also left unsaid is the stupid work policies of a lot of hospitals in general – having the entire nursing staff working 12-hour shifts (usually 3-4 days per week) doesn’t leave a lot of room for people calling in sick or quitting.
I suspect hospitals have been short-staffing for years. My brother in law owns a studio condo near a hospital. He has no trouble renting it out for $3k a month – the last 8 years the tenants have all been nurses who live 20 miles away – they put in so much overtime it is worth it to them to blow $3k a month to have a place to sleep ten minutes from their job – they go to their homes when they have a day off. After a year or two a nurse burns out on the OT and they tell a co-worker about a condo that will open up near the hospital.
Just the Thicc nurses, right?
3k a month. Are the nurses “hot bunking” the condo?
Cause they are including one-shot (non J&J) and those who have submitted either medical or religious accommodation requests as part of their compliance.
Well, if it wasn’t illegal for minors to cross state lines between Wisconsin and Illinois, those Waukesha kids could be treated in Chicago’s famously not-overwhelmed-with-trauma-victims hospitals.

Regarding Tulip’s lovely piece on cabbage: *Narrows gaze* There was an awful lot of kimchi love going on. I can’t stand the shit, BUT! Hypothesis: There may be a huge difference between American-Korean kimchi and the pure Korean stuff. Just like American-Chinese food is pretty much completely separated from actual Chinese food. Maybe the American style works better for our collective palettes. I have no idea. When I’m home I don’t care where my family and I go for food, with the exception that I always insist upon it NOT being Korean. Other than that I’ll always find something to fall in love with. Maybe Korean-American food is fucking fantastic. I have no idea, or at least don’t in the past decade-plus.
Some grilled at a Korean BBQ dinner is usually pretty nice. Has to be grilled. I never ‘like’ the raw shit. It won’t make me sick but I get no enjoyment out of it at all. But definitely just a few bites for me. I can’t stand the red pepper paste (gochujang). It makes everything it touches ONLY taste like the pepper paste. I can’t tell the difference in flavor between meat and veg. It’s just overpowering. And I am also constantly surrounded by it. I see my kids get it every day at work and I’m reminded of my distaste.
I don’t know if Pope Jimbo loves it or if he’s just gotten used to it. I am aware that I am an outlier in this whole thing, as I simply detest it, and others (not just Koreans) swear by it. I’ve been back for 8 months and I don’t know if I’ve had a single bit of it. I’ve also only gone out to a Korean restaurant once in that time. And even then it was Korean fried chicken, but of course kimchi is present. I probably grilled a couple bites. Don’t remember. Korean food is hands-down my least favorite type of cuisine. There are a few things that are just fine and dandy, dumplings especially, but I cook them at home in my own way. For me, Korean food is nothing to crave or go out of my way for. Going out of my way to avoid it is far more pleasurable.
No biggie. Ain’t tryin’ to yuck anyone’s yum. But I can’t at all accept someone trying to yum my yuck when it comes to this.
Yeah – I had errands to run and missed that thread. I have a real aversion to “sour” in general (I hate most vinegars, especially the Italian love of Balsamic — probably why I hate wine 😉 ), so surprisingly I’m not into sauerkraut or the Asian cousin you refer to. But calling back to the Eastern European side of my heritage — one of my favorite standbys is “butter (or bacon fat), chopped onion, chopped cabbage — fry until golden and still just a little crispy, serve with kielbasa”. When I grill (because I’m lazy and never time sides right) I do what I call “faux slaw” — take a slaw blend (thin sliced cabbage and carrots), mix with enough Ranch dressing to wet and some bacon bits. Quick and delicious.
Related: I have an outline for an article and I hope to take care of it this weekend. It’s about being an expat in Korea/elsewhere and how that cultural immersion/being an outsider/loving the strange mix of being a complete visible outsider while still being completely anonymous is a very interesting, challenging, yet rewarding experience for someone like me. I think I have some interesting ideas there to express.
I also still need to put together my exploration of Cambodia, which I plan on being a two-parter.
Please do!
To be honest I’m not that big a fan of Kimchi either.
And I’m also very certain the ‘Korean’ food sold here has been modified from the source material.
I’m sure that American Korean and Korean Korean are very different, but I’m actually quite curious about how much so. I’m sure I had some growing up, as my family always went out to ethnic places, but I don’t remember it. It’s pretty obvious why when I visit home I purposefully ensure that I don’t have to be around anything that resembles Korean food.
Pope Jimbo: You’ve been here. I think others have as well but I know you and me are the most frequent visitors/inhabitants in Korea. How is Korean-American different than Korean-Korean? Mandu/tuna kimbap are just fine. Bulgogi is fun. Samgyeopsal is a bit fatty for me but it’s fine (I’ll eat it with friends but I never go out and get it on my own, though I never go out and get any Korean food on my own). Outside of that I’m having a hard time thinking of Korean food that I even roughly enjoy.
I just pan fry pork mandu in olive oil. That’s as close as I get, really.
I have to admit that there aren’t a whole lot of Korean joints here in Minnesoda.
The main difference is that a) way more meat than you’d ever get in “real” Korean restaurants. Bulgogi and Kalbi. b) Kimchi is a side dish, not the main entree. c) (and this may be a Minnesoda thing) spices are toned down a lot.
The one food I don’t like in Korea (and I can’t think of the names) are the cold noodle soups. Ugh. Seems wrong to me.
1) Where is kimchi a ‘main entree?’ It’s always just banchan as far as I’ve ever seen. One to be ignored by me and happily given to others.
2) Had to look it up, too, but knew what you were referring to. Cold water noodle soup: Mul Naengmyun (물냉면). (Yuck.( Um. Yeah. That’s just weird.
“Pour the icy broth into each bowl. Place the cucumber and pear on top. Add a packet of mustard oil to each bowl.”
Um. No. Everything about that makes no sense. But, hey, ain’t yuckin’ no one’s yum. But yeah. Don’t bs me into yumming that yuck.
My wife and her family will have the main dish be a bowl of rice with a big pile of kimchi on top of it.
There are all the extra banchan, but to me it seems like that rice and kimchi are the main entree.
Prison food. That’s what kids have for breakfast every day. I find it fundamentally baffling. Well. To each their own. *Shrug*
Listen Pope,
It’s an an Asian thing. In Japanese gohan means either meal or cooked rice. Okazu are all the other dishes that go with the rice.
Bonus – slang for okazu – jack-off material, something to masturbate to
Also remember bukkake is a dish made by pouring broth over something. So keep it off the okazu.
I got nothing agains rice. I was just telling Evan that rice and kimchi is a huge amount of my wife’s diet.
This weekend my son lost his temper playing cards and my wife called him out for being jerk. Then she said “Jerk OFF!” meaning he should stop being a jerk.
Entire table broke up in laughter. Only my wife didn’t understand what she had said and was just puzzled.
So I had to explain that she had just told her kid to onani. Then she got extra puzzled and wondered why “jerk off” is slang for masturbation.
After a bit, one of the kids put 2 and 2 together and asked why I would know the Japanese word for beating off.
Wait, the Japanese word is based on the Hebrew holy text?
Legit LOL.
Wait, the Japanese word is based on the Hebrew holy text?
Japanese is full of loan words. Once you learn how they bastardize words it is amazing how much vocabulary you already have.
The Westerners brought masturbation to the hermit kingdom.
Lots of medical terminology in Japanese is German. Pre WW2 lots of German derived words. Post WW2- usually English.
Kimchi is an abomination. Mainly cucumbers should be pickled.
I rather like it. But I can see why others would not. Oddly enough, I do not like sauerkraut, despite the kimchi love.
Interesting. I LOVE sauerkraut. Takes all sorts. *Shrug*
Just a completely pointless question that you have zero reason to know the answer for and I have zero need to know the answer, but…
Do kissbangs accept foreigners as customers? Kind of a guesstimate of general xenophobia I guess.
I didn’t even really know about those. Had to look it up. Apparently they’re fine with Westerners. Explained below. Two things that are related:
At massage parlors, which are ubiquitous here, at some places the girls will actively ask foreigners/everyone if they want anything extra. I’ve been asked but didn’t take part. I probably should have…but it’s pretty much like everywhere: Some places may be more strict than others, but if you’ve got money, you can absolutely find a girl who’ll get with a weiguk (foreigner). They very well be much more excited to deal with a Westerner.
Love Motels! Space is tight in Korea. Same size as Indiana and 55M people instead of 5.5M. Everyone lives in apartments. Love motels are ubiquitous and parents/couples/flings go to fuck out-of-earshot of the kids/family/etc. I have taken part in those, but never with a prostitute, which are somehow, literally everywhere. Prostitution is also pretty rampant here for married men. I’m not a part of that Korean scene but it is a huge cultural thing here. Everyone knows about it but they are secretive enough that you don’t see hookers on the streets getting Johns. The married-men cheating thing is very bizarre. Everyone knows about it, but culturally it just isn’t talked about, the lid is kept sealed, and it just…doesn’t come up. But everyone knows about it.
I think you can probably book those by the hour but I’ve always stayed the night with my girlfriend or girl I picked up, usually after performing (as a drummer) at a show in a bar/etc.
This is the thing that I’ve mentioned about “Southern” culture here.
I knew that Koreans didn’t have the reputation of being as xenophobic as say the Japanese (though they are just as nationalistic) but the apparent fascination with beauty made me question if they’d have a revulsion to someone so far outside their standards.
Koreans LOVE westerners. They laugh out loud when you say something in Korean…but they aren’t making fun of you. Or at least I’ve never taken it that way. They are just so shocked and surprised that a non-Korean can say even a word or two of Korean that they think it is the most comical thing ever. And not nasty-comical. Just loving enjoyment that someone that isn’t Korean can say even just a little bit in Korean. It’s like performing a magic trick for them. They never expect it and are full of smile when they hear it.
I think I get treated a lot better than most people here. They laugh, but also respect and appreciate that I’m giving their language an honest go. Speaking of Subway, cuz one is near a place that i make errands around, they know me. I swear they hook me up far more than they do with any other customer. I add bacon and they give me a LOT more than I’m sure they give anyone else. And sometimes don’t charge me. It’s pretty fantastic. Hairdressers refuse my tip ($2 on a 6$ cut) and when I (in shitty Korean) tell them that it’s just an American custom, they light up and are so excited. I tell them to put it in their pocket and keep it a secret! They love me. I’m sure that all of them want to have dramatically passionate erotic affairs with me. *Dreams continue…*
Do you get grabbed a lot?
Before global warming caused my hair to start turning grey, the Koreans would always come up and touch my hair (I know what my black sistas go through dammit!) without asking. If I had a beard, it was extra bad.
One of my nieces would bring me to her elementary school when we’d visit. All the kids would try their English out on me. Then one brave kid (usually the niece) would touch my hair/beard and when I didn’t eat them, the rush was on.
I normally didn’t get too worked up when they were touching my head, but had to draw the line a few times at the bathhouse…
Nope! No one has ever touched me in a rude way. Or at worst, I thought the situation was cute and friendly and never had any problems with it. No one was ever forceful. I certainly ain’t gonna stop a cutie from touching my face. Nothing worse from an adult has ever happened. The kids are just naturally curious to see someone so fundamentally non-Korean. I enjoy it. Most of the time.
I do have to stop my youngest kids (5-7 years old) who are getting too playful and touch my pockets…my left pocket where my smokes live, and my back left pocket where my wallet lives. They get a solid ANDAEYO! for that one. Fucking (jokingly) threaten them by telling them I’m gonna call 112 (911 for Koreans).
None of the grabbing/touching I ever went through has been rude. Sorry if it seemed like they were.
Like you said, it is just curiosity.
My kids get it extra bad. Old women see me with the little half breeds and they have to pinch their cheeks or tousle their hair.
I generally love banchan, including kimchi, but I’ve never been to Korea.
I have been to the restaurants in Austin that the NCsoft execs go to when they’re visiting the city.
About 80% of the kimchi we eat at our house is home made. My wife will make a batch every couple months. We don’t have the big pot out in the back yard to truly ferment it, but it is pretty much the same. Sometimes a whole bunch of Korean women descend on my house to make a GIANT communal batch of kimchi.
I am on/off when it comes to kimchi. I will add more and more of it to my diet and then one day, I’ll get a really rancid piece and it will put me off kimchi for a couple weeks. Even when I’m eating it, it is just a side to go with my rice. It isn’t the main entree.
I’ve learned to deal with the spiciness of Korean food over the years. I still don’t get their love for pure spiciness (that red pepper paste), but I can tolerate it much better than I could have as a youngster.
Over all, I like Korean food. The seafood stuff is my least favorite. Mostly because as a prairie dweller I am uncomfortable with the multitude of forms that sea food comes in. I grew up where all fish pretty much looks the same. Tentacles? Eels? Sea urchins?
“Sometimes a whole bunch of Korean women descend on my house to make a GIANT communal batch of kimchi.”
Best euphemism ever?
Um….*considers it*…yeah, we’re definitely getting quite close with that one. I strongly approve.
In that case, once again reality fails to keep up with fantasy.
Just like real lesbians and motorcycle mamas never live up to how they are portrayed on TV, Kimchi Parties never end up with your prized pepper being fought over by voracious Korean women.
Kimchi Parties never end up with your prized pepper being fought over by voracious Korean women.
Actual LOL.
Hopefully it’s nothing like a lemon party.
Ooooh Mrs. Jimbo makes it! I was talking to my coworker and she was doing Gimjang (김장) with her mother. They make enough kimchi to last for the entire year, apparently. She said she was using over a 100 heads of lettuce. She said it was very hard, taxing work, but good family time. And then it goes into their special kimchi fridge and it’s apparently enough to last the entire year.
That’s…a very unique cultural difference. You can always get to enjoy Beondegi (번데기) as a bar snack! That shit isn’t in any way my favorite…but silkworms…um…they aren’t that bad. Just a salty side snack. Really aren’t that bad. Nothing to seek out, but nothing that I’m repulsed by.
Saddest bit of food in Korea? Tragically….Subway is hands-down the most reliably ‘good’ sandwich that can be had here. This is where sandwiches come to die. It’s tragic. But I take what I can get. Sigh. Daejeon does not have any really good sandwiches. I’m sure places in Itaewon (foreigner neighborhood in Seoul) has some, but I haven’t been there in a few years. Sigh.
Story 1:
On a trip to Korea we took the ferry from Osaka to Busan. The small snack shop on the ferry had cans of beondegi. I teased my wife about it. With such limited space in the store and they think that a can of bugs is a good thing?
A few days later on a trip to Seoraksan national park, our extended family decided to go on a hike up the mountain. At the trail head was a guy selling beondegi. My wife and kids teased me and peer pressured me into buying a cup of them. I ate a couple and gave the rest to my Korean family (my family wouldn’t touch them).
Started up the mountain and I noticed I was having a hard time breathing. Thought I was just out of shape. Then the hives started. I have never had a food allergy before so I had no idea what was going on. Thought the hives were zits. Anyhow, the rest of my family abandoned the youngest Altar Boy and myself. Between my allergic reaction and the youngest’s desire to try every bathroom we came across, we just couldn’t keep up.
When we finally found the family again, my wife figured out that I was having an allergic reaction to the beondegi. Mother-in-law’s proposed treatment was to have me take off my shirt so she could dab the hives with dongdongju. Being the only westerner around that day, I had already gotten more than enough attention. Last thing I was going to do is strip down in a food court, so we compromised and I just drank the dongdongju.
Tragically….Subway is hands-down the most reliably ‘good’ sandwich that can be had here. This is where sandwiches come to die. It’s tragic. But I take what I can get. Sigh. Daejeon does not have any really good sandwiches.
Ever considered opening up an American food restaurant over there? Sandwiches and BBQ or something like that?
When I went to Korea to get married, my wife and mother-in-law made a special trip to Daegu (the nearby big city) to get a loaf of bread and butter for me.
MIL tried bread and butter for the first time with me. She was less than impressed.
I have evolved since then to be able to have a meal without bread and butter. Usually I have a bowl of rice now instead. There are days, though, that I put butter and soy sauce on my bowl of rice just to make my wife roll her eyes (and gag a bit).
So I’m not surprised that the Koreans have a hard time with sandwiches.
BBQ or something like that
I’m sure it’s been posted here and it’s pretty old at this point, but I’ll rewatch this occasionally because it’s just so dang wholesome
Nope. I have Western friends that own a bar and a bar/restaurant, and they’re great. And I worked in a deli (kinda, Schlotzky’s Deli for 4 years, which is legit part of my death meal order—Turkey Original on jalepeno cheese w/o tomatoes, and a BBQ chicken pizza), but I have only ever been a teacher abroad. I have no idea how to run a business, let alone here in Korea. That’s a pretty big opening audition to starting out on your own.
Friends of Westerners and one Korean guy, who run good food at their bars. Actually legit friends with three of ’em. They fill the void that us ex-pats will happily pay for. We have a great community and time. Daejeon is about 1.5M people. Pretty much all the foreigners know each other or at least know of them. Seoul is just waaaaaay too big for that to occur. Perfect sized city for what we do. We all know each other, directly or through mutual friends. Pretty rare to meet a ‘new’ expat. Usually great fun.
Story 2:
During Team Spirit ’88, a couple of my buddies and I got a chance to get a 96 in Seoul. We went up there with a bunch of other Marines. We spent the day wandering around Seoul and then we found the Pizza Hut in Itaewon. Fucking pizza tasted exactly like pizza back in the states.
As anyone who has tried eating pizza in East Asia knows, what you get can only be called pizza if you have a very strong imagination.
All of us had been overseas for most of a year, so finding real pizza was amazing. Like Ugly Americans we ate at that Pizza Hut for every single meal for the rest of our liberty.
You were really deprived if you made that mistake.
I’ve said it before, but my nieces will choose the following toppings if you let them: tuna (like out of a can), corn and mayo.
Add cyanide, you’ll be doing them a favor.
Um….in Korea you take what you can get. Popular Korean pizza toppings include: corn, potatoes, shrimp, kimchi, and even a strange fucking strawberry/blueberry pizza.
The only edible pizza here is Pizza Hut/Dominos/places run by Westerners. But those are hard to come by. Two of ’em here in Daejeon, right next to each other. One is Chicago deep dish, so take that with a grain of salt? (It’s actually fantastic. It is more a casserole than a pizza, but it’s legit.)
… The entire region is too far gone, we’re going to have to clense it with a saturation of nuclear hellfire.
casserole
You had me up till then. Maybe if it was more like a hot dish?
Also RE Tulips cabbage article, I have meant for months and months to order the airlock lids to make some sauerkraut and always forgot. Ordered them this morning! Thanks Tulip. I read Sander Katz book years ago and that guy will ferment anything. I think fermentation was discovered by accident and we stuck with the things that didn’t kill the first dood who tried it. I can honestly say I have never tried kimchi only because I have never came across it.
I’m not a fan of ginger, and the (American) kimchi I tried had a large dose of ginger. I wasn’t a fan. I don’t know about the actual stuff.
We already know what Titty Tuesday is, now we’re just haggling over the price.

I’d buy that for a dollar!
“CNN host Chris Cuomo used his sources in the media world to seek information on women who accused his brother Andrew Cuomo”
So integrity. Such ethical.
This is CNN.
Listen if she didn’t want to get dragged through the mud, she shouldn’t have badmouthed the governor, capicse?
“This is what Italians do…”
*makes wild hand gestures*
“We’ve never been able to have a family and I never pushed it because I thought she couldn’t have intercourse. I still love her but she’s deprived us both of a loving sex life.”
https://www.thesun.co.uk/dear-deidre/16886067/married-never-had-sex/
Cuck.
Wait, “couldn’t have intercourse?”
Absent a serious injury, is that a thing?
Probably vaginismus; which is totally treatable but the fact that she’s avoided getting it treated for 30 years says to me she either hates her husband or she’s secretly a lesbian.
My ex developed massive fibroids. It made intercourse painful… And before we found out why, it was a challenge. Her feedback was “you are too rough”, or ” too deep”… It definitely killed things a bit for her. We went from….. A lot… To not much in that department over a year or two period. And it put a strain on me as well.
There is also the psychological… Like this lady. and like my ex. When we had a stillbirth and 5 miscarriages my ex became terrified of sex, so even though we got the fibroids straightened out with surgery, she was still terrified that she would get pregnant and lose the baby. So she eventually became afraid of even being close to me, lest she fall to temptation and have to deal with another dead baby.
So I have more sympathy for this guy than most might. He gave his word and he kept it. She….. Didn’t.
I suspect there is a whole lot more going on here than the story gives. “Fear of pregnancy” is one thing… But this is way more than that. She may just have no libido, or be gay, or something else.
Dude blew it… But for the right reasons. —– sometimes I have contempt for religion and traditional values. I assume this guy stayed around because he is a good guy and believed in the things he was taught, like honoring marriage and the whole in sickness and in health thing. It certainly did not serve him well.
Damn, that’s rough, we lost one and it really hurt my wife , that many would have to be horrific for her.
Yeah.. It is an “if you have been there, you know” kind of thing.
We recently had a younger couple join our church group. She said a couple of things that sounded innocuous to everyone else… But I heard something different.
So I found an excuse to talk to them alone later and yup… Been trying and failing for a couple of years. She had that same hollowed out pain look that told me she was walking that path.
So we had a few beers and now they have someone to listen. It is as rough as it gets.
My great aunt never had kids, but she obviously and overtly loved her nieces and nephews. when we had our trouble, I went to her to talk about it and see if she had any advice (since they stayed together through it all). Even in her late 70’s , she would not talk about it. Couldn’t even really think about it. Just said “not everyone needs to have kids. You can be fine without them” with a tone of “and that is all I am ever saying about that so drop it and never speak of it again”. Whatever happened, it was 50 years ago… And still too hot to touch.
As of 8:20 am – weather prediction is 50% chance of precipitation, low of 32 degrees for Malta NY.
Actual conditions in Malta NY 9:00am – 22 degrees and snowing.
Yesterday was sort of surreal as I had the radio on and on comes this Biden sermon presumably about the Omicron variant.
Except the entire time was Joe ranting about how we all need to get vaccinated.
But the defining concern with “Omicron” is its vaccine resistance.
If the vaccines still worked, there is no concern.
The vaccine has become just another article of faith for the prog-woke religion; think of it as receiving Communion. There is a supernatural belief that within the shot there is salvation. What other explanation is there for forcing people with natural immunity to get it or lose their livelihood? And we’ve already proven that it doesn’t “stop the spread” so there is no benefit whatsoever to forcing school kids to get it.
Then again, you can’t reason someone out of a position they didn’t reason themselves into.
no benefit whatsoever to forcing school kids to get it.
no benefit whatsoever to forcing

“Did Corporate Media Already Forget The Waukesha Murders?”
Rhetorical question is rhetorical.
Of course they’re burying it, it smashes two of their cherished narratives: that “domestic terrorists” are only angry, middle-class White people and that “bail reform” is unambiguously good and no threat to public safety.
It’s like when a person with the wrong melanin content is a mass shooter. If it doesn’t serve the narrative, it must be suppressed.
Sometimes I wonder what the country would look like if we didn’t have a thoroughly corrupt and fascist press. Then I wake up.
I live in Dallas and right at the start of Trump there was a black dude who tried to mass murder as many cops as possible because he hated cops. Killed 5 and injured 9.
No one ever talks about this.
I myself am no fan of the police but police being victims of some sort of hate crime is just not a kosher narrative for the media.
Was he white? No? Then not mass murder. Only white males do that. It is known.
Remember the Navy Yard shooter?
Or the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D.C._sniper_attacks… I’m sure that was just some people doing some things as well.
Atlanta child murderer.
All sorts of KKK speculation.. Profiler stories about white males who are “quiet guy, keeps to himself. Nice enough”.
Yeah… Did not turn out that way. Still got some coverage, but relatively soon it faded away.
We know you just want to bring Page 3 back, Q… 🙂
Schelp, who was appointed by President Donald Trump, said CMS had understated the “overwhelming” cost of its mandate and by declining to submit the rule to public comment the agency had fed the vaccine hesitancy the rule is meant to counter.
Costs? There are no costs; only benefits. That’s what government means.
Debated whether to throw this link out there, but it is pretty wild that some folks are willing to be so blatant. Have to say, I don’t think things would transpire like they imagine.
If you follow some of the responses, though… I chortled at one snarky reply of “I prefer Chalk Demon”
They really do want a race war.
Not too bright when you’re outnumbered 6 or 7 to 1 and the guys who vastly outnumber you have lots of guns.
I wouldn’t at all be surprised if 90% of the accounts spewing this shit are sockpuppets for people connected to the Chinese and/or Russian governments. It’s become abundantly obvious in the past 5-10 years where the chinks in the US’s armor are and they’re going to attack them relentlessly. Trying to stir up division and internal strife is a classic commie tactic.

Not this shit again.
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that one…
I laughed out loud at the “not this again” take.
So that makes 3 oddball senses of humor…
Again? This happens often?
And showing my ignorance — but given all of (((y’all))) around here… is the Orthodox branch more restrictive when it comes to conversions (i.e. do you have to be actually of the 12 Tribes or something?) I was a bit surprised when I scanned the article and it said that he’d tried to convert and they told him to pound sand basically. Would have expected bigger problems from the “Apostasy Now” brigade than having new converts be rejected.
Don’t know the guy — but if the story is honest, kind of feel for him. Yeah, should’ve been honest with his wife and her family obviously – but appears he just really really wanted to be an Orthodox Jew and couldn’t without lying. Doesn’t seem like the sort of thing to make a Federal case out of — but I guess they’re trying to keep spying on parents on the down low and need something to do…
Yeah, I don’t get the “again” part…
You guys need new sarcasm meters.
*checks Sarcasmomoeter 2000*
Yup. The difribullators blew again.
Damn — now I have to order a new interocitor
“Are you boys smoking up there?”
“No!”
“Are you boys building an interociter up there?”
“NO!!“
showing my ignorance — but given all of (((y’all))) around here… is the Orthodox branch more restrictive when it comes to conversions (i.e. do you have to be actually of the 12 Tribes or something?)
I have seen gentiles convert to Orthodox. The Orthodox is much more restrictive and the converts will always be considered an outsider in many of these communities. Children with a converted mother may also always a cloud over them… at least until everyone grows old and dies that remember the mother converted. Kind of like relocating to small communities in Appalachia.
Some of the conversion stigma runs in Conservative circles (between Reform and Orthodox). As a kid, I remember hearing a Conservative rabbi call out my (((Reform converted))) father and several other converted friends’ parents during a service for not really being Jewish. That solidified my view of rabbis and other religious leaders as being scummy grifters. Haven’t seen anything since then to change my viewpoint.
First day of GM trial:

CFO of CNBC resigns
Yeah, I noticed that too….
I just did a quick search. Nothing on CNN, MSN, or Fox about it. Only NY Post is reporting about the trial. Curious.
OMNICRON TOK, don’t be distracted by that trafficking side show that you can’t watch anyway.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10257729/Journalist-reigning-Miss-Kentucky-wins-2021-Miss-USA-pageant.html
Not seeing how a beauty pageant can be “woke”.
Beauty is on the inside. The contestants are judged on their personality.
“Wokest” doesn’t specify the degree of wokeness, it’s only relative.
“Empire star Jussie Smollett was a ‘real victim’ of a ‘real crime,’ his defense lawyer told a court as the actor faces trial over claims he faked a hate crime attack.

Then his pants suddenly burst into flames.
Bah. Lawyers always buy suits with a sufficiently high fraction of asbestos thread to prevent that. It’s like first semester law school stuff.
Yeah, I figured that was part of the deal they work out with the Devil in Contracts 101 and all… Sign over your soul to pass the bar, get Hell-proof suit (because you’ll need it later and all…)
For all the lawyers here… I keed, I keed… 😉
“That’s a bold strategy Cotton.”
You know how you can tell that they are not serious?
This took place in January 2019.
It was obviously fake from the jump… “Racist MAGA guys roaming the streets of Chicago at 2 in the morning in subzero weather carrying bleach and nooses just looking for gay black TV stars to assault in a stereotypical racist manner” was pretty stupid. And it was quickly debunked and solved.
Yet we are just now coming to trial.
In the meanwhile, bot Rittenhouse and Arbery happened, both sets of accused were a trained and tried and their cases complete… And these are high profile, complex murder cases, vs a “lying to officials” case that is completely open and shut and does not involve life in prison.
But the major factor, multiple Children’s sources say, has been the vaccine mandate, as it has caused a sudden and dramatic decrease in staff levels.
“[Administrators] have been touting the fact that we have 90 percent compliance with the mandate,” one source said, “but that means that we have lost 10 percent of our workers.”
Decimation!
They really do want a race war.
Nonsense. They just want the evil whiteys to surrender unconditionally, and fork over their ill gotten plunder.
On the “conservative” side they used to lament that with the number of immigrants coming in, and people marrying across races, there really won’t be many “white” people in a few decades. I think that’s right, but I don’t see it as a problem. In a decade or two it’s going to be very hard to find young people who are strictly one race or another. This is just another fake problem people are using to divide and stoke hatred.
In a decade or two it’s going to be very hard to find young people who are strictly one race or another.
No idea where to even find the data, but while there are more “mixed-race” kids these days, I think they are nowhere near the majority. Don’t be fooled by what you see on TV, which is wall-to-wall mixed race and minorities vastly out of proportion to reality.
Someday? Probably. In a generation? I doubt it.
The numbers from the census say there are very few. Ingroup preference is still very strong and sampling bias or media distortion doesn’t change that.
Also, the whole reason the ‘hispanic’ separate cultural question was added was so that people could pretend the ‘hispanic’ population in the us wasn’t 70-80% white.
It seems like the goal posts on race just keep changing. Wasn’t very long ago that Italians, Irish, Germans, Russians, Greek, Jewish, etc. were all considered different races. By that metric, I’m guessing a sizeable majority of Americans are mixed race. Now, these have all been merged into a single race.
Good point. 100 years ago, Irish and Italians were not considered white people. You pretty much had to be a WASP to be considered “white”.
Was it all Italians or just Sicilians?
*thinks of Dennis Hopper/Christopher Walken scene
Given that the Irish were also “not white”, I’ll assume all Italians.
The Germans were also considered degenerate people, just a step above the Eastern Europeans.
NYT headline:
“Omicron fight hindered by fragmentated response.”
Where is our iron-fisted world socialist dictatorship when we truly need it?
fragmentated
When “fragmented” doesn’t confer that special sense of intellectual superiority well enough…
They should orientate themselves towards a dictionary.
*grinds teeth*
See, also “utilize”. There is no sentence with this word in it that wouldn’t be better with “use”.
Local news has the much woker take on it (courtesy of the AP):
Omicron brings COVID-19 vaccine inequity ‘home to roost’
Omicron only exists because Africa didn’t get enough people vaccinated!
Wasn’t there a recent story about how there were lower incidences of the disease in Nigeria in spite of lower vaccination rates.
Such utter horseshit.
The eagerness to jump the gun and declare omicron as evidence of their preferred political narrative without any sound underlying physical process defined is just more evidence of our Lysenkoist civilization.
My tinfoil hat spidey sense wonders why we heard for about two-weeks straight how Africa was spared COVID madness and then suddenly, a scary mutation magically pops up there. All right, got my Jones on for the day.
I think they were losing control of the narrative and decided to put some new fuel on the panic fire.
This was a blatant appeal to our national sense of racism – if it comes from Africa we must abhor it polluting our country. Don’t you systemic racism bro’?
What? It’s a free, self-distributing immunization against worse forms of coronavirus. It’s an african export with less death and suffering than usual. I, for one, am happy for their budding pharmacutical industry.
In a decade or two it’s going to be very hard to find young people who are strictly one race or another. This is just another fake problem people are using to divide and stoke hatred.
Don’t worry, they’ll find a wedge.
Like all the other blasts from the past they seem determined to bring back — expect a variant of the One Drop rule to crop up.
And because I feel extra snarky on L-day… what about the Amish? I thought they were going to out breed the rest of us anyway, after all….
Meaning now that One Drop is not enough?
Depends on the drop.
Vax status?
if you don’t vote for me, you ain’t multi-racial.
Uffda. It is like they don’t even know that black folks already discriminate based on how dark their skin is.
Spend 10 minutes around very dark skinned black women and you will hear a shit ton of shade thrown at the light skinned sisters.
Gaaaa! Killitkillitkillitkillit!
From a coworker’s farewell email:
“You clearly had too much time on your hands.”
Before there was Hamilton there was Rent
Which was ahead of its time. They took a classic IP and wokified the shit out of it.
I’m lost, why the non-sequitur?
Oh, were they making some reference to something? I just figured it was an engineer too into numbers and not some of the detritus.
Yes, it was the musical reference that inspired my violent reaction and immediate placement of said engineer on the “do not rehire” list.
Also, Rent was the inspiration for part of Team America: World Police
Ah, I didn’t get that. I’ve not seen a musical theater production since Les Miserables in like 1990.
— Anne Edison
that’s a lot of overtime
Well, that song is gonna be in my head all morning now.
Your punishment for listening to musical theater.
I’m immune, since I don’t get the reference.

OFFS!
Can’t have those pesky videos of private individuals rioting and destroying property hitting the interwebs anymore.
How do you even determine that? Seems like a crack down on independent and citizen reporting.
?
This is intended to shut down people like Andy Ngo.
I am sure they will also crack down on the news networks that post their ‘news’ footage right? Right?! RIGHT?! I’m okay…I got that out of my system.
Thay should put an end to that pesky Andy Ngo.
I should refresh before posting.
That was my first reaction as well. “Got to shield our Sturmabteilung, after all…”
Aren’t most pics and videos on social media of private individuals (whatever that is)? How is Facederp going to determine whether they gave consent for it to be posted?
Is this going to be retroactive? Are they going to start stripping all the fail videos and so forth from the site?

Orwell never should have written that instruction manual.
Alternately, it might be time to think “Fuck off, CBS”.
But as The Hill points out today, Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell don’t appear to even be close to having any sort of deal in the works.
They’ll make a deal.
A federal judge on Monday blocked in 10 states a Biden administration vaccine requirement, finding the agency that issued the rule mandating healthcare workers get vaccinated against the coronavirus likely exceeded its authority.
Good.
The largest children’s hospital in Wisconsin has been struggling to care for patients in injured in the Waukesha Christmas parade attack on Nov. 21 in large part because of staffing shortages stemming from its COVID-19 vaccine mandate, multiple sources say.
Who could possibly have seen this coming?
Moreover, NSSF noted that the FBI performed a total of 687,788 NICS checks during the entire week, including those on Black Friday.
This makes me happy. I try not to think about all those folks going into a Federal database. I’m one of those that thinks the Feds never destroy background check records.
On a related note, I lost the auction for the second of the two antique guns I bid on. My payment is in the mail for the first one.
I’m curious why a district court can block a Republican rule nation-wide, but apparently can’t do the same with a Democrat rule.
Really? I think your question answers itself.

Andrew Branca (law of self defense guy) tangled with Malice last night and lost badly:
https://twitter.com/michaelmalice/status/1465581371146047493
Andrew is new to the game…Malice should have recognized that he doesn’t have a Twitter “everyone argues in bad faith” perspective yet since his launch to relevancy beyond his normal sphere started amongst lawyers and not the idiotic or sarcastic trolls of large. Malice knows that, but he got his internet points for the day.
Branca kicked off the back and forth with this:
I’m torn. I agree that we desperately need to reform policing. Make cops accountable and punish the fuck out of the bad ones.
On the other hand, I grew up in a small town and most of the cops were pretty decent people who were able to exercise a lot of discretion. They poured beer out when they busted us underage punks and would mention it to our parents the next time they saw them.
The other factor that I think Malice and his tribe forget about is that the job itself will warp anyone who does it. There are a lot of people who are horrible and the police have to deal with them every day. Watching parents abuse their children or spouses beat on each other and the sexual abuse cases day after day cause cops to come up with coping mechanisms. Often the coping mechanisms cause the cops to do horrible shit themselves and rationalize it.
I wonder how long it would take Malice to become the LEO monster he hates so much if he was forced to walk a beat. No matter how much police reform we enact, I don’t see an end to shitty people doing shitty things to each other.
I don’t know what happened there, but I imagine it has something to do with the shooting in Lubbock, TX?
Branca has taken the unpopular position that the video evidence supports a manslaughter charge. I’m inclined to agree. It’s hard/impossible to see whether the dude started to move toward the shooter, or possibly said something to egg him on, but based on those videos, the shooter had no need to kill the man.
The dead guy was definitely being a complete asshole, and in the moments before the shooting, had become quite aggressive and physical, but at the time of the shooting, the two were disengaged, and it’s unclear to me why the shooter raised his carbine and fired.
I guess the real question is “will the guy be charged,” but that seems pretty unlikely.
Even if charged, would he be convicted? In TX, probably not, but I think Branca made a pretty good case that TX selfe defense law would not protect the shooter in this situation.
He did and the only time he said there was a self-defense case was the moment Chad grabbed the gun the first time after being clearly told to leave the property and saying I will take the gun and kill you. Bad actors all around in that whole mess though.
Yeah, there was no need for that situation to ever get to the point it did. Tragic–some kid lost his dad forever because he got worked up and had to try to push a smaller guy around. The smaller guy could easily have gone into the house with his wife and just stayed there until things cooled off or called the cops. No duty to retreat in the situation, but if the big guy then tries to break in, then you’ve got a real justification for self defense.
So many of these situations could be solved by deescalation early.
Barnes said that under Texas law the porch is part of the domicile, and using force to enter the domicile is a prima-facia case of self defense. Under Texas law you can shoot to kill at that point… A hard case of the castle doctrine. Once he pushed on to the porch, and definitely after being told to leave and throwing him off the porch, Barnes thinks that it is open and shut self defense under Texas law.
I was wrong with my comment above, this is what started it:
Oh, ok, so unrelated to what I thought.
Branca has a long-standing habit of getting drunk and starting Twitter and Facebook flamewars. A huge number of highly regarded people in the internet gun community have blocked him (or vice-versa).
I still think his book is a must-read, but it’s best to stay away from his social media.
It is humorous to witness though.
That is what I was trying to highlight, his circle was small and among an echo chamber and after Rittenhouse that circle just got a lot larger and you can’t win with your old way of running Twitter/FB in the past. You are going to be garnering a larger audience of personalities and the massive horde they drag behind them that will echo their views.
Branca is great at reading the law and facts and understanding how they will interact in a court of law. Twitter is a sewer of illogic and twisted facts. The two are not suited for each other.
I’ve been a Malice fan for quite a spell. I was only introduced to Branca’s work via the Rekieta’s Rittenhouse coverage. I have Branca’s book on the way and I have enjoyed what little of his content I have seen. This incident was just cringeworthy as they both seemed to be talking past each other. Also, Twitter is a hive of scum and villainy, but hopefully the change of bosses will see the whole enterprise go away.
The Kovington Klan Kidz were totes public figures.

XX thinks it’s weird I put the roll of trash bags in the bottom of the trash can they are used for.
It’s what every janitorial service worth its salt would do. Plus, you don’t have to go to multiple rooms for various sizes you may need, they are right there. That isn’t weird, that is working smarter, not harder.
That’s just basic 5Sing.
5S drives me a little nuts. It’s great for making widgets and doing repetitive tasks, but I’ve seen people 5S their home workshops with painted outlines of wrenches on pegboards–that’s over the top. The kind of stuff you do in a home workshop or even a general maintenance shop needs a wide variety of tools, no job is the same, and it’s IMO wasteful to spend the time doing excessive organization. Do I have a big heap of tools that I have to sort through to find the right wrench? No. But I’m not above looking in a drawer full of combination wrenches to get the right one. I could spend tons of extra time walking back and forth to the tool box everytime I use a tool. Or I could lay out a general set that I need and keep them within easy reach.
The only time I wish I had better organization is when I spend a few minutes trying to remember where I set down that tool I was just using. But on net, that happens infrequently enough that it doesn’t pay to go over the top with organization.
The rolls take up too much space that should be reserved for garbage in my cans. so I keep them in a box on a shelf nearby.
We don’t put the whole roll in, but will put four or five in. Its just easier to replace the full one that way.
OT from the overnight article, Re: HbA1C.
If you are truly concerned about being pre-diabetic, I would ask for a fasting insulin test. HbA1C is just an average of blood sugar – around a 3 month average, depends on the individual and the lifetime of their red blood cells since it’s just measuring the amount of glucose stuck to proteins on your RBCs. So it’s not much better than fasting glucose to my mind as a test for pre-diabetes. Diabetes is not a disease of glucose, it’s a disease of insulin; glucose is a symptom and one that might only appear long after you’ve been ~diabetic for years. So if you’re truly worried about it, insist on getting a fasting insulin measure. If it’s elevated, regardless of your glucose levels, start thinking about addressing it.
I thought stuff like this only happened in O Brother Where Art Thou. Evidently, someone turned a gaggle of teen girls into frogs. (TW: twatter — turn your sound on)
Ghislane Maxwell.
Haha, it took me a while. All I could come up with was General Motors.
“Somebody wants me dead over a leaky sunroof?”
“It’s not me! Why dies everybody think it’s personal?”
Great flick.
“My whole life!”
“Let’s hope not.”
Good morning, Banjos!
I love the penguin gif.
But I don’t love the mandates. The healthcare worker stay is nice and all, but then I read this:
Just get the corporate fucks to do your dirty work! What could go wrong?
I am, however, enjoying the ongoing drama with the Cuomo shitheads. I hope they both lose spectacularly.
Did Corporate Media Already Forget The Waukesha Murders?
Nope. It was just filed away with the Vegas shooting.
What Vegas shooting?
The one that they CLAIM killed Tupac.
Amazing how that got memory holed. Huge deal… Bump stock bans, domestic terrorism…. Until Philippine wife angle turned uo… Then they began ramping it down pretty quickly. Nobody even looks back now. all questions just dried up.
I assume it is because things were learned.
Courts have upheld mandates by private employers
As far as I know, employers aren’t immunized from bad outcomes from the vaccine. Making it a work requirement opens the door for liability for injuries.
OSHA flip-flopped on that if I remember correctly.
Initially OSHA said, yes, employers are liable for adverse reactions to vaccines the employer mandates as a condition of employment.
Then OSHA received its marching orders and said, “No, that’s not the case for the COVID-19 vaccines. Employers aren’t liable for adverse reactions for those vaccines if they mandate those vaccines”.
I think the reasoning was something along the lines of BFYTW, “the Constitution isn’t a suicide pact”, and “OMG WORST PANDEMIC EVAR!!!111!!!1!”. There might have been a little bit of “THAT’S DIFFERENT!!!!!!!111!!!1” thrown in too.
Pretty sure OSHA doesn’t have the authority to immunize employers against lawsuits under state law.
Today. Tomorrow, who knows?
Wasn’t there a recent story about how there were lower incidences of the disease in Nigeria in spite of lower vaccination rates.
Stupid Africans don’t understand how models work.
“It’s not me! Why dies everybody think it’s personal?”
“A psychopath kills people for no reason. I kill people for money.”
I know we wasted a shitton of money on it, but Microsoft Teams meetings don’t work for remote users. We’re at 50% telecommuting schedules, why the fuck are you holding an all staff meeting via teams? You know half of us will not be able to get on.
I haven’t shadowboarded my kitchen, nor labelled my drawers or cabinets, but I have filled those drawers and cabinets with the cookware that is used at that location. Cookware that I only use once a year or less gets stored in the basement.
My grandfather shadowboarded part of his extensive tool collection back in the ’50s, mainly so he could tell what had been borrowed/left behind/not put away.
All I’ve done wrt tools is organize the drawers by tool type and put together a basic task bag with ratchet screwdriver/crescent wrench, measuring tape, pencils, allen keys, torx wrenches and multimeter.
I suspect this was a response to someone else.
OK, I take it back. There is a place for everything, and everything should be in its place.
Now I wish I had done that deliberately.
Heh
Gaaa! Gilmore!
Just not your day today huh NA? I’ve been there..
I label my drawers, “This side front”. Prevents errors and accidents, if you know…
“REAR TOWARD ENEMY”
Here I thought it was the shitty heavily government agency moddified Win 7 builds we are running on and going through our VPN that made Teams trash for our remote users….
I wouldn’t rule that out.
Your IT department needs help, then.
I have had zero trouble with Teams and most of us work remote. That includes “all hands” stuff.
Same here. We use Teams in our corp and it seems to work fine for remotes, even internationally.
Ditto
Teams works as well (as it ever does) for remote workers for us. Both VPN and public Internet access (we use much of Microsoft’s cloud options and allow off network access) work as well as directly connected.
I managed to get it working… and I wish I hadn’t.
Nothing is worse than listening to uppermost management screw up basic facts while spouting pablum about supporting our roles when they are abetting the obstacles to us getting our jobs done.
And you look stupid in those masks, take that shit off and speak like normal people.
And of course we’re going to win our own awards that no one else competes for. Stop acting like we’re all morons.
At the top of the teams window there’s a lovely juxtaposition:
Need Help? [Leave]
This is the world we live in:
I’m listening to streaming radio (shoutcast) and the song is Teenage dirtbag. They dubbed out “brings a gun to school”. 🙄
They probably pulled Pearl Jam from their rotation then huh or Aerosmith for that matter…or Johhny Cash…or Marty Robbins…or
Foster the People?
Why do I keep hearing ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ at titty bars?
How many titty bars are you going to that you can detect such a trend?
(not judging, just slightly jealous)
Now I just want to look at pics of Mina Suvari.
It’s quite foggy outside. I bet those people driving to work on I-15 are having fun.
I-95 doesn’t need fog for it to be an adventure.
So many of these situations could be solved by deescalation early.
No kidding.
It’s like a horror movie: “Don’t go in there.”
I still love the commercial riffing on horror movies where the blond says “can’t we just get in the car with the engine running?”.
That has been brought back into rotation in my area and yes, it is funny. Doubly funny cause its the ditzy blonde saying it.
“Stop breathing on me!”
Yeah, that one is a classic.
I like when the killer just rolls his eyes.
I’m listening to streaming radio (shoutcast) and the song is Teenage dirtbag. They dubbed out “brings a gun to school”.
I wonder what they do with this one
I heard Biden banned flights from several African countries. Isn’t that like totally racist and something only Orange Hitler would do?
I said a long time ago that Biden’s campaign slogan should be:
It’s Different When We Do It
Yeah…. (Checks massive inflation, supply chain, unemployment and labor shortage at the same time, kids in cages and uncontrolled illegal immigration, unconstitutional mandates, FBI raiding journalists, kid openly taking bribes, etc)
It *is* different when they do it….
Yes, I’m anxiously awaiting the great wailing from liberals. It must really be building up since it’s been so quiet so far.
Totally different man. It’s not like it’s the African variant, it’s just the Omicron
watchvariant that Biden is trying to protect us from! And they’re already twisted it into a story about “vaccine inequity”. (see above)
What, Africans aren’t getting their fair share of myocarditis?
Why isn’t the Ghislaine Maxwell trial being streamed? I would love to hear the testimony of the pilot.
Federal law. Apparently there is an audio stream available on a call-in number, but it’s illegal to “rebroadcast” audio from Federal trials? Rekieta law went into this briefly yesterday. Not sure if it’s illegal for anyone to do it, or just against Federal procedures and would be a problem for an attorney admitted to a bar to do it.
Federal court…

Covid must be over in NJ.
That’s fucking sick. How about bounties for stopping rioters and looters instead?
Low-hanging donuts.
Yeah, seems a bit extra galling to brag about using tax dollars to bust people.
The Law and Order types eat that up though and nod that the noble do-gooders are keeping their streets safe! /hope I don’t entice Malice into a twitter slap fight
Back our Blue!
Don’t forget the MADD Puritans. One drop and you can’t drive!
Why am I pretty confident that the majority of the “drunk drivers” that NJ nabs will be between .08 and .10?
My cousin was “on the job” in NYC for years (Highway 1 – motorcycle unit) – he hated doing DWI checkpoints and the like; he felt hypocritical for busting people for things he himself had done.
Also, confirmed that there absolutely are ticket quotas although communicated with a wink and a nod. “We don’t (officially) have quotas”, the spokesman claimed.
In Minnesoda, statistics are compiled and the troopers are told what the “average” number of tickets written are. Raises and promotions are based on performance as measured against these metrics.
You don’t want to be less than average do you? But there are no quotas.
Interesting.
They link to the prior year’s recipients. There is some, but not as much overlap year over year as I would have expected. Which makes me think this is some kind of annual slush fund that is rotated amongst the towns and counties.
If so it would be very NJ.
LOL!
Never screw with people that are literal all the time. /eyes my 20 year old son, I still want my bills and not just the change back.
Oh, that being hyperliteral thing is easy to turn around on people.
“I said I wanted you to run an errand. What part of “run” includes “drive a car”?”
Sounds like a Brady Bunch episode.
Heh.
It may or may not work
Dr. Celine Gounder, epidemiologist and professor at NYU, urged Americans to get vaccinated and boosted as the best way protect themselves until it becomes clear how well the current Covid vaccines might work against the new omicron variant.
“The idea is to buy ourselves time if omicron does turn out to be an immune-evading variant,” Dr. Gounder told “The News with Shepard Smith” on Monday night. “It’s really a way of protecting people … until companies like Pfizer and Moderna are able to develop second generation Omicron specific vaccines.”
Moderna CEO Stephanie Bancel told CNBC on Monday that he estimates it will take months to create an omicron specific vaccine, but higher dose boosters might be able to bridge the gap in the meantime.
Magic potion is magic. You just have to BELIEVE IN THE SCIENCE!
Along those lines, I’m starting multiple courses of experimental chemotherapy this week in case I get cancer.
Just sprinkle chicken blood around. It might help.
Eventually more people will see what this is right?
Just heard an ad on the radio to convince you to get jabbed.
The questions were: “I heard on the internet…” “My Uncle says…” Not a single one addressing any real concerns or actual problems.
If you call this number they will give you the truth.
Thanks Virginia Dept of Health, I know that convinced me!
We have one of those airing constantly on TV that goes something like, “I heard the vaccine can make you impotent!” With each stupid statement that nobody has ever said answered by the school-marm narrator, “False!”
It’s fucking insulting.
Yes it is, there was one on youtube with a singer asking a Dr. if he would still be able to write songs after the jab.
Dr. says yes, so the singer says he will schedule an appointment for the shot.
Made me want to throw something at the TV.
Their ads for kids talk about it being formulated for them and it will ensure they can grow up. People don’t research how the mortality rate is effectively 0% for those age ranges, but the man on the radio told me my kid can’t be the doctor they want to be without it!
“Doctors” basically run the world now so I can see why a kid would want to be one.
An isotope a day keeps the cancer away.
President Joe Biden also encouraged vaccinations and boosters. He said that in the “hopefully unlikely” event that updated vaccines would be necessary the U.S. would “accelerate their development and deployment with every tool.”
They should give it a catchy name. Something to show how quickly they can respond, like they’re working at warp speed.
Ludicrous Speed!
Just don’t go to plaid.
Works for me.
Reserved for green vehicles
Only issue is if the guy is colorblind and driving a red truck.
Even a color blind driver would know it was a red truck by all the kid corpses scattered on the hood.
So that’s,/em> what happened to John Titor and Mr. Lizard.

I thought you had to use the tunnel in Berlin.
OK, Which one of the MN Glibs is currently being interviewed for jury selection right now?
Kim “TASER TASER TASER” Potter trial?
Thankfully not me.
“correct.”
Seriously, this guy is totally never getting on the jury–he’s explaining to the prosecutor how we are all equal in the eyes of the law but the law is applied differently to different people.
also carries a gun and pepper spray
I sort of remember one guy who was being questioned for the OJ trial telling the court he was a secret agent, but if they attempted to confirm it the govt would deny all knowledge of him.
That is brilliant!
Is that judge behind some pope mobile glass, wearing headphones to listen in and a mask? Good god.
Considering that the reason that the trial is being streamed is because “protesters” broke into her apartment building and banged on her door, I can’t really blame her.
I figured it was COVID Voodoo.
Probably is. I can’t see the live stream from work.
Here’s the story about the mob storming her apartment building.
Shows what you know geezer! A day or two later Judge Chu reversed her ruling and allowed streaming of the hearing. She pinky swears it wasn’t because of the protests at her house.
Please let it be a Hannibal Lecter mask…
Can you request a new trial on the grounds that the judge is obviously crazy?
Rikieta did an impression of Jesse Ventura appointing her…
“I became Governor of Minnesota to do two things–serve the people and… get a ninja on the bench…and I did just that.”
Hahaha! The funny part was she put on the mask to speak into her headset and then removed it to speak into the bench mic. WTF
Also, someone commented that the panel is Will Wheaton, Jim Gaffigan and Whoopi Goldberg. lol people are funny.
LOL! I just started watching and thought she was the sleepiest ninja in all the land.
Fanning the flames
Health experts in New York and throughout the nation are emphasizing that vaccinations are the strongest defense against new variants because they decrease spread and, therefore, mutations.
Dr. Jorge E. Rodriguez, an internal medicine specialist and CNN medical analyst, says those who are unvaccinated often take longer to beat back infections and need to be inoculated.
“The virus mutates when people get infected. It doesn’t mutate in the air, so even though you’ve got infected and you did fine, guess what. You may very well have contributed to mutations that will be stronger, so there is no such thing as a good infection even if you survived it with minimal symptoms,” he said.
Death awaits. Appease the Plague God!
Perform the sacred rituals. Partake of the holy sacrament.
oh well in that case I better go schedule my shot.
So viruses don’t mutate to be less deadly and more transmissible?
Not when the friendly folks at the Wuhan lab are there to help!
They needed a new line when the ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated’ narrative fell to pieces with the knowledge that the vaccines are basically a 3 month time release of Theraflu. The new line is the unvaccinated are driving the mutations while completely ignoring infections occurring in vaccinated persons.

They just randomly blurt out anything which happens to flit through the vast vacant expanse of their heads.
If you hosted a lethal mutation, you’d be dead, and the mutation would die with you.
