IFLA: The Edition of the Horoscope for the Week of Dec 12

Lily and her best friend Dakota

Very little news this week.  The main one being the transit of Mars from Scorpio to Sagittarius.  This can indicate a conflict that was hidden coming out into the open, but it’s also a generally a good sign of strength/success/potency for Sagittarii, particularly those that are fighters, fine craftsmen, prophets or astrologers.  You can extrapolate out from there.

Lily, Dakota, Daisy, and some Airedale I don’t know discuss events on the other side of the fence.

Sagittarius: 7 of Cups  – This card is usually resented as a warning against overimagination or persuasion.  That’s overstating things.  To the extent that there is a warning here, it that you need to be certain of your sources.  Because you will receive a revelation of “secret information.”  It may be incorrect.

Capricorn:  9 of Swords reversed – This card is about facing or being exposed to problems.  The major differences in interpretation come from whethr you read it as being dislodged from somewhere safe, of it it’s someone finally gathering up the courage to do what needs to be done, problem-resolution-wise.

Aquarius:  King of Wands reversed – King = king, wands = penis, reversed = bad.  So a supervisor feeling insecure about themselves taking it out on you.  Or potentially issues with someone in a position of unofficial power making your life difficult.  Or erectile dysfunction for a royal born under Aquarius.

Pisces:  King of Cups reversed – As above, except cups = vagina.  Also though, King of Cups represents spiritual/religious authority.  And reversed means they’re in oppsition to you.

Aries:  Knight of Coins reversed – This is a card of things going waaaay too slowly.  It can also represent a corrupt financial advisor or someone stealing from you (though the Page of Coins reversed is more typical for that)

Taurus: The Hierophant – This card is literally the Pope.  And if you look it he’s wearing a blue facemask, but under his chin.  I don’t think I need to interpret that any further for you.

Gemini:  8 of Swords reversed – This card represents a sudden release of restrictions, but without any guarantee that this is going to be a good thing or that you’re going to notice that they are gone.  It is likely that there will be pain involved, but taking stock of the situation will indicate that more things have changed beyond you immediate injury.

Cancer:  The Magician reversed – Physician, Magus, mental disease, disgrace, disquiet.  A smart guy being dumb.  A trusted advisor being wrong.

Leo:  Knight of Wands reversed – a Hookup going dreadfully wrong, an aggressive salesperson, a jackass with friends in high(er) places.

Virgo:  Death – Death.  However, it also represents metaphorical death or change in general.  Since this deck was drawn in England it does not represent orgasm.

Libra:  The Blank Card – this card demonstrates that even modern printing techniques can result in errors.  It may also indicate that I’m missing a card, but I haven’t counted.

Scorpio:  Wheel of Fortune – upright, this card means good luck.  Also, this card indicates the triumph of wisdom, as not only is the sphinx on top of the wheel, but all four beasts are reading.

Work ties annual raises in with holiday bonuses. I’ve been employed there since March, but I got a big promotion to a management position in September, so I expected a bonus of X, but no pay raise. What I got instead was a bonus of about 0.5X, but the maximum raise their program allows without flagging it for review. Actual Bonus + Difference in Annual Pay > Expected Bonus, so I’m not complaining.

    Yeah, it’s called “the government”

But should I go to Pocatello for breakfast, or not?

    • Mojeaux

No one should ever go to Pocatello for any reason whatsoever ever. /bitter

      • Tres Cool

I was sent there for a week once, to test the IMI Agribusiness phosphorus plant.
6 weeks later, I got to go home. What a place.

Students have to wear masks at school. I very rarely see them now in the wild.

    Dog park update:

Daisy has decided that Lily’s part of her ingroup. A couple of Huskies tried to mount Lily today and they Daisy went off on them.

    • Tundra

      You can’t trust Huskies.

      • Gustave Lytton

Home Depot tools aren’t that bad.

      • Tres Cool

Don’t you go where the huskies go.
Don’t you eat that yellow snow.

    • rhywun

All of those dogs are cute overload. How do you stand it?

      • Not Adahn

Sometimes my face hurts from smiling so much.

  6. Tundra

    I repeat we have adorable.

    Wow! I’ll say.

    I’ll contribute, too.

    My boy.

    My girl.

I’m gonna ignore my horrorscope and just focus on my blessings. Besides, I can’t figure out WTF it means!

      • rhywun

I hope his name is Chewie.

      • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

        Heh.

The image is named “Minion-sit,” and since she’s sitting, I’ll let you guess what her name is.  ;-)

        Gorgeous!

    Now she tells me.

*I like Pocatello. And, since I’m not a member of *that religion* I am pretty much insulated from bitterness.

    • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

One of the loveliest young ladies I’ve ever met was from Pocatello, and she wasn’t even Mormon (Baptist, actually).

I started watching Wheel of Time. I wonder if this what watching Dune is like for people who haven’t read the book. So far, it’s fairly stereotypical fantasy.

    • juris imprudent

Wife and I finally got to the theater for Dune, she never read the book but enjoyed the movie.

    • Semi-Spartan Dad

I enjoyed the books quite a bit and haven’t been impressed with the show so far. They’ve deviated quite a bit from the books, missed key details, and made the world fairly woke. I’m starting to feel pangs of American Gods regret.

      • Drake

Seemed like the casting was based on diversity. Five kids from an ancient, isolated mountain town – who look like they came from different corners of the world.

I find I miss the maps in the front or back of the books. At least GOT put the map in the opening credits.

    • Drake

After a few episodes of set up and lesbian scenes (seems to be mandatory in Netflix series now), they finally enter The Ways and are on their way the Eye of the World. Maybe it will get better from here.

  9. DEG

Leo: Knight of Wands reversed – a Hookup going dreadfully wrong, an aggressive salesperson, a jackass with friends in high(er) places.

    Sufficiently shitty.

  10. UnCivilServant

I spent a stupid amount of money on groceries today.

I also won’t have to go back for a while.

I also went to the butcher’s. I can’t seem to get out of that place without spending at least $75 on meats.

    • Tres Cool

You could do what I did and knock-up the Butcher’s Daughter.
For the time we were together, my freezer was always stocked with hand-trimmed meat. It was nice.
Then the night we split-up, the bitch emptied it while I was in the bathroom.

      • pistoffnick

The Butcher’s Daughter was tired of tube steak every night?

      • Tres Cool

        No. She’s a colossal cunte.

      • Drake

How much time do you spend in the can? Maybe that was the problem with the relationship.

    • Semi-Spartan Dad

Costco started selling fridge/freezer food online, and I’ve shifted as much of my groceries there as possible. They’ve started selling restaurant food supplies on the site that can’t be purchased in stores. I’m now convinced that restaurants have access to different food of better quality and cheaper price than the highest quality available at any grocery store intended for retail sale.

      • hayeksplosives

I’m getting addicted to the grocery deliveries. My town doesn’t have Costco or Sam’s but the Smiths, Albertsons, and Walmart Supercenter all deliver.

Surprisingly, the Smiths seems unaffected by supply chain problems, aside from the higher prices on meats. But they haven’t run out of Kerrygold butter or any other item that Walmart can’t seem to figure out.

      • juris imprudent

You’re probably no further from LV Costco than we are from our nearest one. We go about once every 4-6 weeks. Once you’re a member, you can do the online thing.

      • rhywun

Costco started selling fridge/freezer food online

Really. Is there some membership involved?

      • Semi-Spartan Dad

Yeah and it’s $60/year for the membership. Free shipping if ordering >$100 of perishable food and ships on dry ice.

      • Gustave Lytton

^^^ grocery store items are intended to stay on the shelf for a period of time, kitchens will send back goods to Sysco/US Foods if it’s not up to their standards.

US Foods bought out the local cash and carry and runs them as US Foods Chefs’tore. Produce is hit or miss, but a lot of the meat cuts look more than decent. Wife was very happy with the pork loin I picked up last time. Some of the branding is the same supplier to Albertsons/Safeway. Biggest problem is the quantity. Even if not buying in case quantity, an entire brisket is a bit much for two people. Even the pork loin was two entire loins in the same shrink wrap. Froze 3/4 of it.

The clientele of the cash & carry seems to be very small restaurants/specialty food shops/food charts, large families, and weirdos looking for specialty stuff like the Knorr beef base.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

Restaurant Depot?, if you have a business license (remember the Price Club olden days?). Also Costco Business, if there’s one near (usual membership terms, but closed on Sundays).

  11. rhywun

Did a little stocking up at the grocery store in advance of Kathy’s Kommandment that goes into effect tomorrow. I decided to dust off one of those old-man shopping trollies I had in a closet. Holy crap, that thing is a godsend. It’s nice to walk home with three weeks or so of food and not be about to pass out from exhaustion.

I was all prepared to fight someone at the chain store about the sight of my face – it is the only joint in the neighborhood where a cashier gave me lip about it a couple weeks ago – but nobody said anything. ?

    • Toxteth O'Grady

Somebody watch and comment! I first saw it on Gutfeld so you know it’s funny.

  12. juris imprudent

Tonio or other caller-for-content. I have a draft up for the opening of a series. Consider it a slow-burning version of The Spark (credit for inspiration properly given). Ya’ll have my e-mail if you want to have any discussion about it.

Dawson Springs. 2587 population in 2020 census. Smaller than Mayfield but its gone now.

My wife’s parents were from there, so she has been following. 11 dead over 100 missing. That is 5% of the town.

Our cemetery plots are just outside the town.

    • kinnath

My wife’s aunt survived an F5 that wiped a small town in Iowa off the map.

      Tornados are bad news.

Or Martin Mull, The Trailer Waltz.

    • Toxteth O'Grady

      Oof.

GT was looking for a decent charity for that effort.

      • robc

        Convoy of hope?

I dont know if they are specifically involved, but they often beat fema to disaster sites with food and supplies.

And any dollar donated generally gets matched about 5x.

      • Lazer

Done. Thanks, while watching the video I told the wife we needed to donate, then I come back to Glibs and there is a link for me to do it effortlessly

      • Gender Traitor

Thanks for this! We also plan to ask a friend who’s a sometime “circuit rider” minister in those parts if he knows of any locally-based organizations (maybe the church[es] where he has preached?) that have started up relief efforts and could use a few bucks.

      • robc

Centerpointe Church BG is doing a lot of the distribution for Bowling Green. The relief center was overwhelmed so trucks are going to the church today to unload, sort, and distribute needed goods.

This was my church when I lived in Bowling Green. The current pastor started right before we left town, so I only met him a few times, but like him.

        https://youtu.be/oOIHdUULNKY

      • robc

That link wasnt the one I meant to attach.

      • Gender Traitor

For yet another option, this is the church-affiliated organization to which our friend referred us. (Link to their donation page is down near the end of the article, with instructions on how to designate donation for this particular disaster.)

      • hayeksplosives

        Thanks, robc.

I was doing some donations yesterday and wanted to help with the tornado aftermath but didn’t want to give to the Red Cross.

        This is perfect.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

Samaritan’s Purse (the christmas shoebox charity) is deploying disaster relief volunteers to the area. They have a directed donation button for that particular initiative on their site.

  14. Penguin

Leo: Knight of Wands reversed – a Hookup going dreadfully wrong, an aggressive salesperson, a jackass with friends in high(er) places.

    I can see #1 & #3. I’ve gotten good at avoiding #2.

  15. Tres Cool

    Really? Really?

Virgo: Death – Death. However, it also represents metaphorical death or change in general. Since this deck was drawn in England it does not represent orgasm.

    Thanks for nuthin’.

    • Toxteth O'Grady

How do you get new limeys without it?

I remember your Foreman / rib-cage comment now that you remind me.

  16. Ted S.

Gemini: 8 of Swords reversed – This card represents a sudden release of restrictions,

Then what’s with the goddamnfucking mask mandate?

  17. Penguin

    Also, I like your dogs.

  18. Gustave Lytton

    Made SOS this morning

Knorr Professional Beef Base continues to be the bees knees.

I put too much flour, not enough milk in it. A bit too much stick to the ribs.

    • Mojeaux

Where does one get chipped beef?

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        Stouffer’s? (sorry)

        Also in jars?

      • Mojeaux

Unlike Stouffer’s mac&cheese, I feel their SOS is not worth the price. I should be able to make that myself for cheaper.

      • Gustave Lytton

I use ground chuck, which is what I used to in SOS.

      • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

        Suspiciously high-quality cut for SOS.

      • R C Dean

Mater Dean learned SOS from a USMC cook. Ground beef.

I gotta get that recipe, now that I think about it.

    • Tulip

      What is SOS?

      • Mojeaux

Shit on a shingle, ala creamed chipped beef on toast.

      • Mojeaux

        aka*

      • Gustave Lytton

Or hamburger gravy if not using dried beef. Over the scrambled eggs and hash browns, too.

      • l0b0t

SOS is, along with oyster stew, one of the two things my grandfather could cook. I have quite the love for both. Jars of beef were standard galley items on the boat and when I was wee grandpa would take me to Homestead AFB every Sunday for SOS breakfast at the O-club, shopping at the BX, and bowling followed by a cheeseburger lunch at the Base lanes.

      • Gustave Lytton

That is an awesome Sunday childhood right there.

    • rhywun

one of the few high-profile news personalities who retained a reputation of integrity as the channel he worked for leaned hard into right-wing and conspiratorial programming

      OK, then.

      • Gustave Lytton

In recent years, Fox News, which always did tilt toward the right, has transformed itself into a hyper-partisan, right-wing talk network that regularly pushes conspiracy theories on a wide variety of topics. Even many of the network’s so-called “straight news” anchors have abandoned any pretense of impartiality.

Quite a lot of progjection by CNN. And nice revisionism where FNC merely titled right in the past. Those fucksticks have been smearing it as right wing faux news since it launched, even as it really has moved leftward over the years with some exceptions.

      • UnCivilServant

        Fox is left of center.

      • Tres Cool

I used to tell people that I felt Rush Limbaugh was too liberal for me.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

Fox earned their reputation during the beginning of the “War On Terror” and shilling for Cheney Inc.

They deserve their comeuppance, but somehow CNN et al manage to be even worse.

  19. KSuellington

Great finish to the F1 season which was fantastic the whole way through. I’d been cheering for Verstappen for three years now as he and Red Bull were steadily improving. Hamilton is one of the best drivers in F1 history, but it was nice to see someone new take the top place. It will be interesting to see what the car changes for 2022 do for the sport.

    • Lazer

“It will be interesting to see what the car changes for 2022 do for the sport”

      All electric?

    • Raven Nation

And F1 just turned down Mercedes protests so it’s official. Some rumors that merc will appeal to CAS

      • KSuellington

As they should lose. I thought the Lap 1 tussle should have resulted in making Merc give back the place. It wasn’t totally egregious but Max did have the lead on the apex of the turn and he stayed totally on track. Overall a very fun season. Looking forward to next year already. I’m sure Russell will be a force at Merc.

    • EvilSheldon

Very little about Burma makes me happy, but this makes me slightly less sad.

  20. rhywun

Today in mixed messaging… panic! jab doesn’t work against this one but jab harder anyway! oh it may not be the end of the world after all.

  21. Not Adahn

The Expanse S6 e1 is out. I’ll watch it tonight then start a post on the forums so we can discuss without spoiling rhy1.

    • Mojeaux

      I totally forgot!!! Must watch.

    • mikey

Binge watching to catch up. Got to S5 E5 last night.

      • Mojeaux

        So mad about Alex.

      • R C Dean

But not mad about spoiler alerts?

      • Mojeaux

Dude, S5 has been out for over a year. Statute of limitations is up.

Also, I forgot what episode is the relevant one.

    • Timeloose

Oh !! Great. Thanks for the reminder.

  22. hayeksplosives

Holy cow. The Baltimore Ravens have a shallow bench at QB. With Lamar Jackson carted off to the locker room, Tyler Huntley is in at QB.

The backup to Huntley if he goes down, even for one series, is PLACEKICKER Justin Tucker.

I know Tucker is multi-talented (opera singer, speaks several languages, holds the NFL record for longest field goal at 66 yards) but adding in QB is next level. I kind of want to see what he’s got.

    • Ted S.

To be fair, almost everybody has a shallow bench at QB these days.

      • hayeksplosives

With as much playing time as Jackson has missed over the past couple of seasons, I’d have expected the Ravens to put more effort I the QB position.

      • juris imprudent

It seems to me the idiot NFL has rules about how many QBs can be on roster.

  23. Mojeaux

Welp, I think I could probably go pick up pizza and not miss much of the Chiefs v Raiders game. 35-0 at half time.

    • Mojeaux

      My bad. 35-3.

    • rhywun

      Jets here. ?

      My goodness, they’re terrible.

  24. R C Dean

    “a Hookup going dreadfully wrong”

    N/A

    “an aggressive salesperson”

    Whatevs.

“a jackass with friends in high(er) places.”

    That would be me.
