I want to make fun of the Bears after last night.  Unfortunately, I am a Cardinals fan.

So I won’t.

Here’s some links:

Not the new Chilean presidente

You know, they could legalize meth and Fentanyl.

No longer a right wing talking point, they finally caught a (potential) terrorist at the border! Which means border patrol has officially caught more (potential) terrorists than TSA.

Posting for the sheer awesomeness of this photo.

Bolsonaro just does what he does.

Chileans elect a communist.  Their markets react rationally.

Chile’s main stock market index slid by more than 6% Monday while the peso fell against the dollar.

C’mon you know how this goes:  Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. PUTO!

I don’t know why, but this seemed appropriate for today.

Spirits? plural? Do your pants fit like a glove?

      • mexican sharpshooter

Correct, plural. The gif. lifts Ghostpatzer’s yin and his yang.

They could have just written “drama instructor”. We’d fill in the rest.

I still say it will be interesting to see what Boric does, and relative to the constitution under draft. He had to moderate to broaden his appeal in the run-off; so who does he disappoint – the moderates or his leftist core?

    • Gadfly

It will be interesting. What he does will depend on a combination of how much of a true believer he is and how much of a strategist he is. I know little of Chilean politics or this Boric person, but given that his background is in leftist activism my money would be on him making poor choices.

  8. Count Potato

    “Chileans elect a communist. ”

    • B.P.

It’s clear evidence of a copter shortage.

      • kinnath

No fucking clue. Someday, I’ll be able to tell you.

      • The Hyperbole

Strictly going by volume, about 9700 penny ‘could’ fit in a gallon, but since there’s going to be a lot of air space probably about $70 worth.

I clicked through to the front page to see if there was a new post and just lost a few minutes of time, I think.

All I could hear was this.

  10. grrizzly

But Pleitez’s doubts about the media-savvy Bukele began taking shape when he shut down a government sexual diversity office. And they grew when the president early last year ordered soldiers into Congress to pressure stunned lawmakers on a vote.

At least one of these things is good.

    • Enough About Palin

      “Bukele”

Isn’t there a Pornhub category for that?

      • C. Anacreon

  11. Stinky Wizzleteats

Chile’s stock market only tanked by six percent? They aren’t panicking enough if you ask me.

    • slumbrew

My thought, too – I would have expected at least a double-digit drop.

      • juris imprudent

The peso has also tanked against the dollar (was around 660 per $, now 870), and since that chart is in dollars, how much is actual market changes vs. currency fluctuation?

      • Lackadaisical

        410 vs 250… 40% drop, 870 vs 660, 25% drop.

    • Gadfly

Well, people kept loaning money to Argentina, so the market isn’t entirely rational.

  12. Mojeaux

Yo, KK, I’ve been watching a lot of van life vids. Have you thought about getting an outfitted cargo van instead of a truck and fifth wheel?

    • slumbrew

As cool as they can be, even a tricked-out Sprinter van just isn’t that big.

      • Mojeaux

Yeah, I know, but she had expressed dismay about gas prices. I thought it would be a good compromise between staying where she is and gas prices.

      • slumbrew

She should just bow to the inevitable and start building something along these lines

      • Not an Economist

And they can be expensive compared to other RVs if they are bought. Making one isn’t cheap either.

There will be compromises in how much stuff one can have. And things like an indoor shower is a big question for a van owner.

      • Mojeaux

Some days I think, “I could totes do that if I were single,” then I think about my hobby supplies. I’m a minimalist, but not THAT minimalist. A fifth wheel would be just right.

      • Nephilium

One of the Mini rallies I went to had someone who had built a trailer small enough to be towed by the Mini Cooper he was driving, and was staying in that as he drove across the country.

      • Count Potato

        They make trailers for bicycles.

      • Tundra

My buddy just got rid of his MErcedes. It was super nice, but he said it got too cramped and he hated driving around with all of his shit. He got an Airstream trailer and truck instead.

      • Not an Economist

I’ve thought about getting one but more as a camper and travel vehicle where I won’t have to look for a motel if I don’t want to.

      • Tundra

That’s exactly why he bought it originally.

      • Mojeaux

        I think that’s Brooksie did.

      • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

      • B.P.

I looked at them for a hot second. I figured I could tear around in one of my passenger vehicles and stay at a lot of decent hotels with that money instead.

    • Count Potato

Sportsmobile used to make them out of E350’s, then Ford stopped making Econolines.

  13. Shpip

Boric’s goal is to introduce a European-style social democracy that would expand economic and political rights to attack nagging inequality without veering toward the authoritarianism embraced by so much of the left in Latin America, from Cuba to Venezuela.

Brings to mind the Thomas Sowell quote: ““Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good.”

Chileans have spoken, and they’re about to get what they asked for, good and hard. This will, of course, be chalked up to “bad luck.”

    • Dr. Fronkensteen

“Bad Luck” That’s a strange thing to call the fascists. Not to mention of course the Kulaks, hoarders, and saboteurs.

I still can’t figure out how it was a penalty to tackle the running back.

      • Count Potato

Did he still have the ball? Was it after the whistle?

      • Dr. Fronkensteen

He went low on the blocker and made contact with the legs before getting to the RB. Not much contact I’ll grant you but enough for the refs to make the call.

      • Count Potato

The penalty was for a low block against the Tackle, not tackling the RB. Although, it doesn’t look like defender was trying to block the Tackle. He just hit the Tackle’s legs while going for the RB.

      • The Gunslinger

It was called an illegal low block because he went low at the offensive lineman to get to the running back. It was a stupid call. The offensive lineman didn’t even end up on the ground on the play.

  15. DEG

The 21-year-old man was apprehended Thursday night entering the U.S. from Mexico through Yuma, Arizona, according to a tweet from Yuma Sector Chief Patrol Agent Chris T. Clem. He appears to have been wearing a jacket emblazoned with an American flag patch and another that stated: “Central Oneida County Volunteer.”

I guess it wasn’t the perfect disguise.

Former leftist student leader Gabriel Boric will be under quick pressure from his youthful supporters to fulfill his promises to remake Chile after the millennial politician scored a historic victory in the country’s presidential runoff election.

Meanwhile those of us in Corporate America have to sit through web based harassments training every 12 months.

“Is it wrong to suggest that if Mary sexually satisfies you, you will recommend her for promotion?”

      • rhywun

I wish it was only every 12 months.

I’ve been in my current position for less than a year and a half and I’ve taken it at least three times.

      • Sensei

Meanwhile the training itself is a form of harassment.

Somebody who doesn’t have anything to lose should make an argument to HR that the training itself is triggering. For example, my wife taught the Catechism to children. As part of that RCC’s recent history of pedophilia she had to go through training on that very topic and its prevention every year. She found the actual training itself quite upsetting because it used documented real life examples. It was one of the reasons she decided to stop teaching.

      • rhywun

it used documented real life examples

        Yikes, that ain’t right.

      • Ghostpatzer

Mrs. Patzer *teaches* the RCC training (“Protecting God’s Children”), and went through re-certification a few months ago. I don’t know how she deals with that stuff. “Upsetting” is a serious understatement.

“Missing California mother Heidi Planck’s boss was in business with Hunter Biden in China.

Planck, an accountant for accused fraudster financier Jason Sugarman, disappeared in Los Angeles on October 17.

The vanishing led police to question Sugarman, who is under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an alleged $43million fraud.

A SWAT team has raided Planck’s house and police have combed through a landfill for her remains, but her mystery disappearance remains unsolved.

Planck’s ex-husband believes the financier knows more about her disappearance than he has told detectives.

DailyMail.com can now reveal emails from Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop which show Sugarman worked on a multi-million-dollar deal with the president’s son and his Chinese business partners in 2015.”

He’s taking a big gamble on this. In just about everything else (gas prices, all other prices, the border, Afghanistan), he’s severely underwater in the polls. People have noticed reality does not match his bullshit. The only thing that’s favorable is his handling of Covid. If things don’t turn out to be as bad as he says, people will notice. It will be one just one more of Bullshit Joe’s failures.

      • R C Dean

The only thing that’s favorable is his handling of Covid.

Not by much, and not at all if you say he needs above 50% approval.

What’s weird is the steady downward slope flattened, and maybe reversed a bit, about the time TEH OMICRONS really hit the news.

      • Dr. Fronkensteen

Whenever the vid is over, he’ll take credit saying that we hit herd immunity by vaccination regardless of what the number ends up being.

      • ron73440

Couldn’t he come out and say “If you’re not sick, you don’t need tested”?

Would the media back him on that at this point?

      • Raven Nation

I wonder if the Dems are starting to fear they’ve got a tiger by the tail. Yeah, there’s a lot of people that will do whatever Biden says but, at this point, you’ve sown so much fear they may be worried about whether they can get it under control.

      • Fourscore

So if I’m sick I should get tested? No way, then there might be a mandatory vax.

I think I’ve got this figured out. I skipped the first 2 virus, now with MN at 92% of cases are #3, which isn’t very serious I think I’ll skip any vax, since the Omigod virus is a pretty routine cold/flu.

Did we whip virus 1 and 2 or were they overcome by events? If so then we can expect # 4 in a few months.

They’re still promoting masks, however, it’s pretty hard to take this Biden Administration seriously.

According to my model, you’re all going to die

According to modeling from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Omicron accounted for an estimated 73% of new infections nationwide last week.

And we all know how accurate the CDC’s models are.

    • Mojeaux

I mean, we ARE all going to die…

    • B.P.

That was a pretty quick gearshift from “we just detected the first case of Omicron in the U.S.” to “everyone has Omicron”.

      • R C Dean

Of course, we just started testing for TEH OMICRONS in the US, too. Hard to detect something you aren’t looking for.

I think their numbers on the rate of spread (first case detected was, what, a couple weeks ago?) is highly implausible. I don’t think even the Chinese could engineer a virus that spreads from one case to over 100,000 new infections a day in a couple of weeks.

      • Count Potato

So you are saying it was the Germans? Say what you want about the tenets of national socialism, but those people know how to build shit.

So the mask and vax mandates don’t seem to be accomplishing much of anything?

      • Gender Traitor

Depends on what they’re trying to accomplish.

      • ron73440

Very true, I think they are accomplishing exactly what the ruling class wants them to.

    • JaimeRoberto (shama/lama/ding dong)

For what timeframe? Is it one of those measurements from the beginning of the pandemic when nobody was vaccinated, or is it something more recent?

  24. Penguin

Unfortunately, I am a Cardinals fan.

    Lo siento, amigo.

  25. The Late P Brooks

    DATA! SCIENCE!

At a virtual press conference held Friday, Dec. 17, Gov. Kate Brown reaffirmed the importance of responsible masking practices amid news of the new variant.

“As Omicron is spreading, more states are starting to follow Oregon’s lead in reinstating mask requirements,” she said. “Thank you to every Oregonian who continues to mask up. You are making a difference.”

“Science shows that masks work,” OHA Lead Communications Officer Jonathan Modie told The Chronicle. “They save lives. That’s why OHA issued the temporary rule requiring indoor mask use and why OHA plans to issue the permanent rule with this requirement.”

Modie said the OHA’s decision to move forward with the proposal was data-based.

“OHA reviewed several studies related to COVID-19 transmission and masking, including national data on the effectiveness of masks in preventing the transmission of the virus,” Modie said. “OHA continues to monitor scientific data with regard to masking and control of COVID-19.”

Can we just push Oregon into the sea?

Tested positive for covid just now.

I am fully vaccinated but with a “very old” vaccination.

Symptoms are flu like and not reallly fun.

    • Sean

      Sorry.

    • slumbrew

      Sorry, dude. Speedy healing.

    • Dr. Fronkensteen

Sorry to hear about your impending death.

      • Urthona

        If I die, remember me.

      • Gender Traitor

        Who?

        Feel better quick.

      • Urthona

Guy with a pickle avatar. Made all the best comments.

      • MikeS

        That’s a pickle? I thought it was a cucumber.

I don’t like you as much anymore.

      • MikeS

But, I still want you to get better quick!

      • Urthona

        It’s Pickle Rick!

      • MikeS

Huh. He even got his own Pringles can.

OK nerds, you win. Once I’m done with Schitt’s Creek, I’ll try Rick and Morty.

      • Lackadaisical

I always assumed it was that cucumber from veggie tales.

      • slumbrew

Can I have your CD collection?

      • Urthona

Ok, but Columbia House will still find you.

      • Spudalicious

I bought cassettes from Columbia House…I bought LPs from Columbia House…

      • ron73440

        You’re not my supervisor!

        Sorry to hear that.

      • Gadfly

        How should we remember you?

Do you prefer solemn reflection or raucous remembrance?

    • Ghostpatzer

Getting sick is indeed not fun. Hope it passes quickly.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

      Well you’re in a pickle.

      Sorry dude

    • invisible finger

So you tested positive. What kind of treatment or therapeutic did they recommend?

      • Urthona

It was just a testing site and no medical advice.

I took an Advil for a headache and that’s it.

    • Tundra

      Are you treating it?

    • grrizzly

Do you have the horse paste on hand?

    • Count Potato

I hope you are feeling better.

    • Tres Cool

Since Im just coming off that ride, I pray that your symptoms remain mild.
The past 2 weeks have been quite the odyssey for me, specially the Sunday I had the 103.7 º fever.

But there’s no way some ho’-ass, bitch-made, slant virus can exist in my toxic, 80-proof system. After all, Im Tres MOTHERfuckin’ Cool.

/buffs nails with the girlfriend for dealing with the ‘vid with minor symptoms

Honestly, I hope for those who get it that it’s a short and simple ride. The week without taste or smell was disconcerting enough.

      • rhywun

I got a sore throat and congestion today.

Is this the beginning of the end?

  27. The Late P Brooks

Data from the CDC shows a 1-2% reduction in COVID case growth and death rates associated with state-issued mask mandates in a study of 2,313 U.S. counties up to 81-100 days after implementation.

    Wow. That’s stupendous.

    • JaimeRoberto (shama/lama/ding dong)

      What’s the margin of error?

      • Dr. Fronkensteen

        +/- 2-4 % Why do you ask?

      • ron73440

        Stop asking stupid questions!

There are people dying, for Christ’s sake!

    • ron73440

      Holy shit a 1-2% reduction?

Well guess all the 100 years of actual scientific studies before this are wrong.

      Call me skeptical.

    • KSuellington

So well within the margin of error then. Fucking useless rags.

    • R C Dean

up to 81-100 days after implementation

Those are some tasty cherries. I bet they can pick some more.

    • invisible finger

N95 masks changed hourly are 95% effective per exposure. Assuming one exposure per day, .95 ^ 80 = .0165 or 1.65%.

  28. The Late P Brooks

    What’s the margin of error?

    You slay me.

    • juris imprudent

      SCIENCE! makes no errors.

  29. kinnath

I wasn’t even remotely aware of the game this is based on, but Arcane is one of the best shows I’ve seen in years.

    Critical Drinker Recommends Arcane

    Seriously. Check it out.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

      I’m hesitant.

But I’ll check the drinker vid.

      • kinnath

It is an amazing fucking show.

    • kinnath

The Drinker says: Arcane may just be one of the most gripping nuance mature poignant and well-constructed TV shows I’ve watched in years . . . .

      • Yusef drives a Kia

Hmm, I’ll watch the CD for more, thanks!

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        Now I want netflix!

    • ron73440

It looks interesting, but then I’d have to get Netflix.

I dropped them after they bored me to death with the Witcher. This is after I got them because I was so hyped for the show. Read all the books and only played the last game, but by the end of the season I didn’t care anymore.

Is there a way to watch it without Netflix?

      • slumbrew

bored me to death with the Witcher

        Yeah, but dem tiddys.

      • kinnath

Sign up. Watch Squid Games. Watch Arcane. Shut it down.

I thought Squid Games was brilliant. Then Arcane blew me away.

      • Mojeaux

I got Netflix for Cobra Kai. Then S3E2 happened and I couldn’t take it. Dear Johnny and Danny, grow up.

      • Lackadaisical

Season 2 became a big snore fest, literally, for me.

Loved season 1, at least the first 2/3rds or so of it, which i thunk just got carried through til the end of the season.

    • Lackadaisical

Huh, I had no idea what people were talking about, but yeah, the league of legends cartoon is good. I also recommend.

Dunno about best in years, but it is good.

  30. Tundra

    Oh, Canada.

NOW is it time to resist?

    • ron73440

I love how the article phrases it, they are doing this to prevent a rise in Omicron fueled hospitalizations and death.

No questioning of the effectiveness, nor mentioning this has been done before without managing the virus.

      • rhywun

        That hit me too.

When the piles of dead bodies which were never going to materialize don’t materialize they will just point to totalitarianism as the cure.

    • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

      It’s British California, d00d.

There’s nothing that can be done. It’s too late for them. All that’s left is for the Forces of Freedom in the U.S. to prep and launch a swarm of 1-megaton nuclear-warhead-tipped cruise missiles into the Lower Rainland™. We’ll reclaim the remains after a thousand years of quarantine.

  31. creech

Can anyone cite a scientific basis for widespread use of the “vaccine” actually encouraging the virus to mutate? I sort of got into it, without having any cites, today with a guy who claimed widespread use of vaccines actually forestalls virus mutation.

    • Urthona

No, but his theory sounds worse.

    • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

It’s known generally as “immune escape,” and is the reason why, up until the insanity of the last 21 months, it was considered a REALLY BAD IDEA to vaccinate people in the face of a pandemic.

      • Count Potato

They went ahead with flu vaccines in very bad flu seasons (eg. 1957, 1968).

      • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

Yes, but they thought they were ahead of the virus’ arrival in North America, plus learnings after the fact.

Oooops. Sucks to be you, 1957 and 1968.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

      Look up Geert Vanden Bossche.

He predicted our current situation very accurately.

The simple analogy is overuse of antibiotics leading to resistant bacteria, but using leaky vaccines during a pandemic is slightly more complex.

      • rhywun

overuse of antibiotics leading to resistant bacteria

Yeah, I remember hearing that one a lonnnnng time ago.

      • MikeS

        That and:

        Anti-bacterial soap is great!

        …shit…

        Stop using anti-bacterial soap!

      • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

Loves me my antibacterial Cuticura soap. Gots me several bucketfuls of the bars with the original Triclosan in it, before that fuckstick Obama had all the Triclosan banned.

        Smells awesome, too.

      • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

Oooops. Triclocarban, not Triclosan. My bad.

“Everyone who sees me is tested, or all the team that comes through here is tested every day,” Hochul said.

“Take this job and shove it.”

Can you imagine having to go through that stupid theater every day?

      • Ted S.

Am I the only one here who’s never been tested?

      • Yusef drives a Kia

Nope, me neither, and never will.

      • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

PCR test, June 2020, based on odd symptoms I’d had before-hand. (Turned out to be a false flag.) Nothing since then.

      • rhywun

I spent too much time at the hospital last year so I have an excuse.

  33. Yusef drives a Kia

My crazy friend Nick said let’s play some Golf, so off we went, 30 degrees and a stiff wind from the south. Beer, Cough sticks and hand warmers, we were set to go, then it began to snow, and we spent the next half the game battling sideways snow in the face and ridiculous wind, what a great Solstice!

    • Urthona

      Io Saturnalia!

      • Yusef drives a Kia

And now we go back to the Sun!
        “to the Sun!”
        Huzzah!

      I don’t get it.

What does the white supremacist ?? represent?

      • MikeS

Near as I could tell from the 5.3 seconds I spent there, it means “warning; you are viewing something stupid”.

      • Count Potato

        That he’s a white supremacist?

      • rhywun

But why does he have arm arou— oh I don’t give a shit.

I wish 4chan never convinced the moronic left that the ok sign was racist. Now innocent people are getting thrown under the racism bus.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

There is no racism where I live, the 2 Black families are great folks,

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

I’m pretty certain Nasheed is just a race grifter and couldn’t care less about any of it.

  34. Mojeaux

My husband is lamenting the number of Chiefs on the COVID list. Dude, stop. The NFL isn’t going to make people sit on the bench who aren’t supposed to be there, especially this close to the playoffs. Way too much money riding on these people.
