“Single-day” record, encompassing 3? 4? 5 days because of the holiday weekend and observed holidays?

      • Ownbestenemy

Yes. I heard a report that even said “single-day record, but note, there was a 4 day backlog due to the holiday” and breezed right over that still trumpeting the dire news.

      • MikeS

        Context, shmontext.

      • JaimeRoberto (shama/lama/ding dong)

Exactly. 2 years into this thing you’d think reporters would understand this and report accordingly. Either they are stupid or mendacious. Or both.

      • ron73440

I was shocked last night on MSNBC, the host started talking about a New York headline that scared everyone.

Headline was about a 325% increase in child COVID hospitalizations. Host says he looked into it and the increase was from 22 to 100 something in a city of 10 million. Direct quote: “Context is important”

        My first thought: Since when?

Plus Jennifer Rubin is concerned we are counting cases and giving that too much importance.

        I don’t know what’s going on anymore

    Fear porn doesn’t impress me.

That’s the big downside with making it easier to do business online. It makes it easier for government to implement more rules and regulations and to enforce them.

  9. The Late P Brooks

On Tuesday, the United States set a record high for single-day COVID-19 infections, with 441,278 new cases.

The new spike surpasses the 252,776-case record, set last January.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Delta variant accounted for 41.1% of cases, while Omicron accounted for 58.6%.

    Give or take 50%.

Those fucking clowns don’t have any idea which is what.

    • grrizzly

These vaccines are so effective. Literally, a miracle of modern medicine.

    • rhywun

I told my boss I was sick and – surprise! – the first question was “Did you get tested?”

Everyone who gets the sniffles is running to the nearest test now. Plus many more who are “required” to test for whatever reason.

This, after last summer the messaging was “don’t bother testing if you’re not sick”.

It is a mystery where these numbers are coming from.

      • Fatty Bolger

Yeah, it’s crazy. Son got sick and had to get a test for work. We got to the local urgent care before they opened and there was already a line like it was black Friday or they were selling PS5’s or something. 7 hours of waiting for his turn to be tested. And it was negative.

      • Count Potato

        Wow.

      • Swiss Servator

I will be on Day 3 of waiting for my @#$%ing test result tomorrow morning.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

        That’s absurd.

      • R.J.

You’ll be well by the time you get your results. I am improving so I assume I only had standard snuffles.

      • Swiss Servator

I’d like to get some sleep, and my sense of smell and taste back. The coughing has died down and I am a bit less fuzzy-headed.

      • Ghostpatzer

I have lost all respect for the medical profession (some individual docs excepted). My provider has a “portal”, the idea is that you message them with your symptoms and they will respond, perhaps even with an appointment if you’re lucky. They have apparently modeled their service on the police – by the time they get around to you you’re already dead. Still waiting for a response, in the meantime I got a home Covid test (“free”, from PRNJ). No results from that, either. I figure if I have a negative test, a doctor MIGHT be willing to see me.

    • EvilSheldon

I was shocked that my test came back negative.

    • rhywun

      Or, “bans”.

“We all knew it would happen eventually.

Today it did. Over a half million followers gone in a blink of an eye. That means I must have been on the mark, so to speak. Over the target. It also means we lost a critical component in our fight to stop these vaccines being mandated for children and to stop the corruption in our governments, as well as the medical-industrial complex and pharmaceutical industries.

So, please spread the word – share this on your own twitter feed or whatever social media venue you wish.”

      We have at the top:

Just for the record, here is the secret memo that Tony Fauci sent to world leaders clearly explaining the Ground Rules of the pandemic response. Revealed here for the first time.

      And then the opening paragraph:

This is just my educated guess on what Fauci probably told world leaders about how to deal with the COVID pandemic. A lot of people have told me this is the best piece I’ve ever written.

      Huh.

So, we have all noted the hard pivot that the left and the media have undertaken on the new strain of covid.

So what is CNN covering today?

    Well, they missed the memo….

“The ‘screaming level of transmission’ has led one pediatric expert to recommend delaying the return to in-person learning”
    https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/29/health/us-coronanavirus-wednesday/index.html

Apparently “the US is heading into a harrowing new phase of the pandemic”.

    • DEG

So, we have all noted the hard pivot that the left and the media have undertaken on the new strain of covid.

The news, except for Fox, that was on the TVs at the gym this morning was spreading more fear porn.

    • Ted S.

In more TMITE news, I listen to various international public broadcasters, including one or another German-language newscast to practice my German. Anyhow, today I was listening to the news from Belgium’s German-speaking minority, and the first story was about a dispute over whether to close the culture sector due to Omicron. It was astonishing how obscenely respectful the report was to the protestors from the culture sector, in a way I’ve never heard towards protesters from any other sector. Everything else is always how radical and evil the mandate/lockdown opponents are.

There was another report on how much we know about Omicron so far. Passing mention was made that the variant is more transmissible but apparently less serious, although the less serious doesn’t matter since all those cases are going to overwhelm the hospitals. But on the other hand, while booster efficacy against Omicron falls from 80% to 50% after just one month (I’d never heard that statistic before), that’s still better than nothing, so get your booster, dammit!

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

A booster a day keeps the blood clots in play

“Florida’s surgeon general has accused the Biden administration of ‘actively preventing’ the distribution of monoclonal antibody treatments in the US in a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Dr Joseph Lapado said that the sudden suspension of the treatments from distribution to Florida removes the health care provider’s ability to ‘decide the best treatment options for their patients’ in a letter addressed to HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra.

The Biden administration paused shipments of the Covid antibody drugs from Regeneron and Eli Lilly last month after the drugmakers warned that laboratory testing suggested their therapies will be much less potent against Omicron.”

      https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10352793/Florida-Surgeon-General-accuses-Biden-preventing-distribution-monoclonal-antibody-treatment.html

      WTF??

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

Combine that with the revised numbers for the prevalence of Omicron.

      • cyto

Well, that and the blatantly political call for Florida to quit being efficient and effective in their covid response in the name of “equity”.

      • Ownbestenemy

All part of the next narrative shift. Biden declares it is up to the States, the FedGov then does what it does best and gets in everybodys’ way, then during the ramp up to the mid-terms, they can point to the states they either hope to flip or hold onto and say “see look how bad they treated you peons!”

    • Ted S.

And yet, another article quoted above gives the figure in the 440k range.

  13. The Late P Brooks

    Speaking of…. warmongering scum…

I went to Walmart and got an over-the-air teevee antenna, so I can watch all those “only 19 dollars a month” commercials. The ones with the horribly maimed and disfigured and brain damaged veterans really get to me. Not in the sense of wanting to send money, but wondering why George W Bush and his many enablers and accomplices in his so-called War on Terror have not been dragged from their beds and lynched.

    • Yusef drives a Kia

When only the best will do,

    • Ghostpatzer

What’s so special about 19 dollars a month? Seems like every charity uses this number – vets, shriners, St. Jude, the list goes on. Why not 15? 30?

      • Ownbestenemy

Well its not 20 bucks. Similar with $x.99 prices?

      • Ghostpatzer

Some consulting company created a model showing that $19 was the optimum number; all the charities bought this research?

    • CPRM

      over-the-air teevee antenna

I’ve been looking into alternatives to satellite to watch my local TV. I have the dish because I can’t get a consistent signal with an antenna. One ‘alternative’ I clicked on was this set top box that would get you all your local TV stations for free…if you connected it to an antenna. Hey dumbass, if the antenna worked I would be looking for an alternative. But I guess some people are just dumb enough to fall for it.

“Two Trump-appointed federal judges have dismissed claims by January 6 defendants that they are being targeted for their conservative beliefs, rejecting defense arguments that they are being treated more harshly than leftwing agitators arrested during violence in Portland, Oregon, last year.

The comparison has become popular in rightwing circles as defendants face the consequences of the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

But Judge Trevor McFadden became the second to reject the argument on Tuesday and issued a ruling saying defendant David Lee Judd had not done enough to show discrimination.”

    • Ownbestenemy

They should have gone with the Constitutional violations, mainly 5th through 8th Amendments rather than going for political persecution. It is hard to show discrimination, it isn’t hard to show they aren’t getting a speedy trial, due process, right to confront, counsel and cruel and unusual punishment.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

        ?

That was my thought. Trying to get a politically sympathetic judge in DC? Not gonna happen.

      • Ownbestenemy

Even a Trump appointed judge. That means nothing in the viper pit. A lawyer should be showing congressional oversight committee members being denied entry to the jails, show the reports of cruel and unusual punishment (alleged), show no bail has been offered…

Almost as if these poor fucking souls who dared walk the hallowed halls of Democracy are being used in a political chess game…

Mind you, these tales started eighteen years ago. I don’t know if folks with such a decidedly unwoke opinion of the dregs and deviants of society would be allowed into the medical field these days.

Let’s get those numbers up, America!

With COVID-19 cases surging, thanks in large part to the highly infectious omicron variant, this isn’t the time to ignore a runny nose or a persistent cough, according to Dr. Emily Landon, an infectious disease specialist at the University of Chicago.

“If you have any cold symptoms, you need to be tested (for COVID-19),” said Landon. “Right now, COVID is far and away more likely than anything else.”

We need more cases. Millions of cases!

Then we can really put the panic machine into overdrive.

    • Ownbestenemy

With COVID-19 cases surging, thanks in large part to the highly infectious omicron variant…

Written before the CDC said “our bad, we only have 22% spread of omicron”?

      • Count Potato

No one knows shit. Worse, they don’t give a shit that they don’t know shit.

      • Ownbestenemy

Huge narrative shift in the vid front. WH says we give up, CDC says PCR testing is bullshit, CDC also says don’t need to quarantine so long….me thinks they know omicron variant is either just now our common cold or know this will be ugly if they can’t pin this on the Repubs come mid-terms.

      • Swiss Servator

It is hitting TEAM BLUE areas mostly, no way to pin this on TEAM RED. “The epidemic of the unvaccinated” has now vanished in a cloud of breakthroughs….so that is now gone… no reason left to make this whole thing so hard! “We need real solutions to make the financial system work for everyone, not just the wealthy,” Warren, who represents Massachusetts, said in a tweet.

    ——-

Critics say digital currencies could destabilize the economy and are vulnerable to abuse by private entities, putting investors at risk.

I’ll tell you what is guaranteed not to make the financial system “more equitable”. Throwing millions of people out of work.

And we most certainly need a currency which can only be manipulated and abused by the government and their anointed partners.

“We need real solutions to make the financial system work for everyone, not just the wealthy,”
Gee, you dumb cunte, I understood my employer’s 401K plan was open to every employee, not just those you consider wealthy. And, rich or poor, you can avail yourself of these places called “stock markets” where you can actually become part owner of a Big Oil, or Big Pharma, or Big Bank entity and partake, yourself, of the obscene profits you think they are making.

Anyone remember the Ghislaine Maxwell trial that media is ignoring as hard as they can?

Jury just convicted her on 5 of 6 charges.

She probably was offered a deal which she refused in a fit of self-preservation.

You mean the story that’s the lead on Google news tonight (and was always one of the first three throughout the trial) with a link to a write up from every major news outlet?

No, but every time I hear “why is no one reporting this?” (about any story not just the GM trial) my curiosity makes me check and 9 times out of 11 it’s being covered. As was the case for this trial, there may have been a day or two when nothing new came up where it wasn’t at the top of the news feed but mostly it was.

      • Not Adahn

It wasn’t covered during my NPR drive time.

      • kinnath

        Well, it’s the right answer.

I’ve seen several articles that say Omicron provides excellent protection against Delta.

At this point, getting Omicron is probably the best protection against the more serious strains of Covid-19.

      • Urthona

Except based on the cdc’s recent revision, you probably don’t have omicron.

Odds are it will be mild anyway.

They were so careful, for so long. They got covid anyway.

Across the nation and the world, people who thought they knew how to avoid covid are getting a rude surprise. Safety precautions that had for so long felt talismanic ― get vaccinated, mask up, avoid large indoor gatherings — have in the past week or two collapsed under the weight of omicron, a much more highly transmissible variant than the ones before it.

Tatiana Laborde, 36, of the District’s Brookland neighborhood, said her family was careful to limit interactions during the pandemic. They raced to get the vaccine when it came out and got their children, now 8 and 6, vaccinated as soon as they were eligible.

But several days before Christmas, her older son tested positive, and after a few negative tests Laborde and her husband tested positive Sunday. She thinks her son picked it up at school, where there had been an exposure.

Her son and husband have experienced mild flu-like symptoms; Laborde felt more run-down and couldn’t sleep for a couple of nights. She said the positive test results made her feel “defeated.”

“I know we’re going to be fine, I know we’re not going to the hospital,” she said. “It’s just that thing where we’ve been so careful, and not everyone in the country takes it seriously, so there’s that anger.”

I feel nothing buy joy when triple-vaxxed covid fascists get the virus and it ruins their Christmas plans.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

      Awww… poor baby.

      • Gustave Lytton

        Because God hates you, Job.

    • Urthona

      I was not careful.

I was at a raging Christmas party where we all got drunk and sang karaoke.

Pretty much every single one of the attendees — adult and child — got covid.

Vaccinated or not, it was all pretty much the same symptoms for everyone. Except the kids don’t seem to have the lingering cardiovascular issues afterward when exercising. That may be the key difference in severity right there.

I was vaccinated and my wife was vaccinated. It was still pretty nasty for both of us.

I’ve never been more skeptical of the vaccines but I still have questions about the data.

      • Urthona

Also I should point out it was worth it.

We should have another party since we are all immune now.

    Pouncers pounce

President Biden received mockery online Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning after a clip posted on Twitter showed him wearing a mask while walking outside on a Delaware beach with his wife, first lady Jill Biden, and their dog Commander.

Footage captured by C-SPAN shows Biden, who is fully vaccinated with a booster shot, wearing a mask outside during a stroll on Rehoboth Beach with only a few people around them. The first lady, who is also fully vaccinated, was not wearing a mask on the beach.

The CDC’s guidance on wearing a mask outside has remained virtually unchanged since the first half of the year, including Dr. Anthony Fauci previously saying in May that the”risk when you’re outdoors – which we have been saying all along – is extremely low,” prompting several people on Twitter to mock Biden for participating in “mask theater” and another Twitter user saying, “The theater never ends with the left.”

Poor Joe. He only wants what’s best for America, you insensitive clods.

    • Urthona

I doubt he even realized the mask was on. he’s a senile old geezer.
