Head dress in thousands

Arm will do less

But time asks and is gone

Would some like them to stop

    Too optimistic.

But huzzah to you for putting it out there.

    AC? is that you?
    Bizarre!

This is about having sex, right?

      Thinking of your ex?

All art is about either, sex, death, or your mother.

PSA. Read the last comment in the Norwegian Blue links. GoFundMe is apparently has decided on a big FYTW to all donors to the CDN truckers.

Back to our regular comments. I like the illustration, but don’t let Spinal Tap know about it.

    • Urthona

They need to be sued. At the very least, that money must be returned to those who donated it.

      • slumbrew

        Donors can request refunds.

They also claim the funds will go to charities chosen by GoFundMe and the freedom convoy folks, jointly. Why GFM gets a say in addition to their cut? Don’t know.

      • slumbrew

        Mission accomplished.

      • Q Continuum

        “Donors can request refunds.”

And that is exactly what they should do. GFM has to eat the cost of the refund transactions.

      • slumbrew

Pool’s suggestion of clawing it back directly through your card probably hurts GFM more.

      • rhywun

Donors shouldn’t have to request refunds.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

Yep. Agreed. If you cannot fulfill your customer’s purchase, you refund automatically. That’s basic customer service.

      • slumbrew

In the interest of fairness, their exact words:

“we will work with organizers to send all remaining funds to credible and established charities chosen by the Freedom Convoy 2022 organizers and verified by GoFundMe.”

So organizers direct the funds – as long as GFM approves.

Everyone should file for a refund.

      • Urthona

Ah ok. At least they can request refunds.

        Probably should.

    • Fourscore

Too dark, Man, but still good, topical for the season

    • Brochettaward

I don’t know why anyone would use Go Fund me when their politics have been clear for so long.

      • Q Continuum

Exactly this. When I heard they were using GFM I knew it was a matter of time before this happened.

    • trshmnstr the terrible

There is so much traffic to their givesendgo page that the site is unstable.

      Government schooling is child abuse.

There may have been a good argument for sending your kids to government school 15 years ago. There may have been a good argument for sending your kids to government school 5 years ago. There may have been a good argument for sending your kids to government school 2 years ago. Sending your kids to government school today is insane.

      • KSuellington

If there are any positives that come out of the shitshow of the last two years it is that many people have realized exactly that. This kind of bullshit will only succeed in pushing more people in that direction. That school district is in a pretty conservative area.

      • rhywun

Enrollment in NYC public schools is down more than 10% during the plague years. Naturally, the latest city and state budgets provide “education” with gigantic increases.

The parties in the Caribbean this summer are going to be epic.

      • Gustave Lytton

Wish my siblings could get that. My younger sibling is unhappy with the (deserved) reputation of the local school district but can’t/won’t do private schools until middle school and doesn’t want to do homeschool because socialization, and really wants to delude themselves that there are good teachers who will make the difference.

My other sibling is a lost cause and it’s already apparent in my 6 year old nephew. Or niece.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

I’ve run into so many people who agree in principle with the flaws of government schools, but start into the “welllll, you seeeeeee” as soon as they’re asked about what their plans are for their kids.

Courage of one’s convictions is rather scarce these days.

      • rhywun

It’d be easier if the government wasn’t stealing so much money to fund their own racket.

      • Gustave Lytton

Yes, along with an ordering of priorities. Despite the importance of family and religion, and I do think they sincerely feel that is important and are quite conservative in that regard, they like living in a nice house in a leftist city with all of the benefits.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

It’s so hard to shake out of that mentality. It really wasn’t until my career was threatened because of the vaccines that we felt confident in wanting to homeschool and change up our lifestyle. Upper middle class suburban is really freaking convenient. Unless you’re strongly motivated to give all that up and live a very inconvenient, and possible insecure, lifestyle, you’re not gonna shake out of that “keeping up with the Joneses” slumber.

One falsity that I caught myself in was this idea that providing my family a certain lifestyle is on the same priority level as leading my family in faith and in worldview. It’s still hard to shake. I can and I want to provide my family with nice things and with a comfortable life. Practically prioritizing that below living out our faith and our beliefs is a daily struggle. It’s so easy to get caught up in the mundane.

Has anyone watched the new Reacher series yet?

    • Swiss Servator

Early review from my friends is a surprising thumbs up.

    • l0b0t

I went into it wanting to hate it. I really love the Tom Cruise movies. But, it is fantastic and I want more. The casting is spot on.

I would be remiss for not adding:

This was good, robc! Thanks for contributing!

I don’t remember anyone voting for these “public health” Nazis who are so drunk with power.

      • Gustave Lytton

It won’t end until at least some of them are stretching lampposts including the low level “juss fallowing zee orduhs” functionaries. They’ve been living charmed lives, like all bureaucrats in this country, detached and insulated from the consequences of their actions and they have free consciouses. Despite claims of receiving threats, none of their coworkers’ bodies are being found facedown in the river, their houses aren’t being firebombed, and their kids aren’t being kidnapped.

    • commodious spittoon

Lettum. Let them, I say. Extend it nigh unto the middterms. Remind everyone who’s the ridiculous masking party, and who’s in favor of liberty.

    • Gustave Lytton

At least it “expires” in a month. This state is moving to make it permanent. They already did so for schools and healthcare workers.

    • rhywun

      Yes, weeks ago.

  9. KSuellington

I’m doing experiments with my favorite cocktail, the venerable Manhattan. I’ve mostly shaken them but have recently started stirring them. I think I like it better. Also been experimenting with different bitters. Tonite’s mix is 1.75 oz Bulleit bourbon, 1 oz Noilly Prat sweet vermouth, 1 dash Orange bitters and 2 dashes Angostura bitters stirred for 30 seconds and then served up with a single Luxardo cherry. Those cherries ain’t cheap, but they are so fricking good and really top off the drink. The rye version is really nice as well, and Fee Brothers make a very nice bitter that is completely different than the classic Angostura. I also enjoy the Peychaud’s. I may try an Angostura and Peychauds for tomorrow night’s version.

    • Brochettaward

      My favorite drink recipe:
      1. Cup
      2. Ice
      3. Whiskey
      4. I put the ice in the cup
      5. I put the whiskey in the cup with the ice

      I call it The Bro.

      • trshmnstr the terrible

As a point of clarification, the cup he is referring to is a used athletic cup.

      • KSuellington

Jameson ice or bourbon ice is also nice.

      • Zwak, holding the spinal column of JFK wrapped in Marilyn Monroes neglegie

        Jameson? Red Breast or nothing.

      • Spudalicious

Zwak knows how to exercise a liver with taste, and quality.

      • KSuellington

Red Breast gets the Glencairn glass and no ice.

    • EvilSheldon

Luxardo cherries are the best thing ever.

If you ever get the chance to try a bottle of Antica Formula sweet vermouth, jump on it.

      • KSuellington

I saw that at Costco the last time I went and almost bought it. I’ll have to pick a bottle up the next time I’m there.

    • slumbrew

Stirred is the canonically “correct” way to make a Manhattan – it does indeed make a difference.

Woodford cherry bitters are excellent, albeit not that wild.

These are a little more unusual:

      https://1821bitters.com/products/tart-cherry-saffron-bitters

A Toronto is also great – sub Frenet for the vermouth (and add a little simple syrup if you like).

      • KSuellington

Thanks for the tips slum, I was thinking cherry bitters would be nice and I like the taste of Fernet, that sounds like an interesting combo.

      • KSuellington

I’m not a gin guy, but I did like the genevers that they have in Holland when I lived there. That would be an interesting combo with one of those.

      • KSuellington

        Lekker. Als je blieft!

    • Swiss Servator

      Skip the vermouth and cherry…perfection.

    • commodious spittoon

I have a big penis, nobody would laugh at it, but suppose someone has a small penis, how would that guy possibly recover??

    • Brochettaward

It’s good to see that the UK takes the case of a teacher sleeping with a 16 year old more seriously than Muslim men grooming and raping little girls.

  10. grrizzly

I’m watching the Olympics opening ceremony. Putin is the only word leader that’s never been seen in public wearing a face mask.

    • Brochettaward

You know, try as I might, I kind of like Putin. He exposes the imbeciles in Washington for what they are. He is, despite all claims to the contrary, overwhelmingly popular with his people. He’s one of the few world leaders who isn’t an abject pussy. When it comes to foreign policy, he has been right on the money for decades and we’d all be far better off if US leaders had the humility, common sense and decency to consider his views. I mean, he’s ordered the deaths of a few journalists and political dissidents, but what the fuck do I care when US leaders are drone striking civilians the world over?

      • Mojeaux

I too reluctantly admitI give Putin an approving nod now and again.

      • one true athena

I admit to enjoying the mental image of Putin just laughing his ass off after 2016, as the Democrats elevated him to Thanos for spending a buck-fifty on some bad memes and planting some dumb stories on credulous spies like Steele. He barely had to do anything, they did it all for him!

And yeah anyone moralizing about him throwing his opposition and journalists in jail can step right off while the US keeps Assange in Belmarsh and a hundred misdemeanor trespassers in a hole in DC without trial.

    • Gustave Lytton

Maybe so, but that didn’t stop him from imposing a mask mandate.

      • grrizzly

I could easily deflect by saying that it isn’t a federal mandate in Russia. Each region decides whether to impose a mandate and how eagerly to enforce it. It differs locally, just like here.

But I appreciate that he uses a bit of his political capital not to wear one. Everyone else complies or parties behind doors to be embarrassed later.

      • rhywun

Or parties in plain sight with the knowledge that a sycophantic media won’t call them out on it.

Sorry, India, apparently we’re sending you our Los Angeles clown.

      • KSuellington

Just when you think this shit can’t get any more ridiculous, you get something like that.

      • Gustave Lytton

Really? I thought it was a federal mandate imposed nationally there.

      • grrizzly

I’m not completely sure. I haven’t been to Russia in 4 years. According to my mom, there are often significant differences in enforcing any mask or vax mandates in St. Petersburg and the city where she lives. If masks are enforced in stores, it’s almost only by cashiers.

        WaPo:

For much of the pandemic, Russia has eschewed public health measures, while mask mandates go largely unenforced. It also has an especially low coronavirus vaccination rate, compared with other European nations, leaving much of the population vulnerable to the rapidly spreading pathogen.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

“eaving much of the population vulnerable to the rapidly spreading pathogen.”

GFY. If the deputy couldn’t identify his target, didn’t know what was going on, he lacked legal basis to fire. Yet he did so anyhow and killed an innocent person. And will not face any consequences for doing so, other than a paid vacation.

Haha! Judi and her army of Gilfs and Milfs have been plotting the overthrow of the Canadian Government on a zoom chat for the last four hours. There is another rally planned for Saturday but curiously, every large retail establishment stopped selling the Maple Leaf. Feature that. She got around it by purchasing a damaged umbrella. Three bucks and it bent right into shape. They are nothing if not persistent. I’d go too but I’m not much for crowds.

    • Festus

What I meant to say is that you can’t buy a Canadian flag at Wal-mart, Costco or pretty much anywhere except Amazon. I call shennanigans! Fucking government is everywhere.

      • Gustave Lytton

‘It’s just sold out. Unprecedented demand. No idea when it will be back in stock.’

I decided to pull the trigger as well. Ordered two maple leafs for myself.

Our National Flag is regarded as a hate symbol by the powers that be. Let that one marinate.

      • Brochettaward

Saw earlier today that members of the Canadian military were told they’d be fucked up if they dared to voice support for the protests, even if on their time off. I may have seen that here. I don’t know I don’t remember.

Anyway, made me laugh. You know they’d love to sick the dogs on the protesters.

  16. Festus

Our payroll system crashed last year. The powers that be decided to go with the new and improved Kronos system. The one that crashed. This one has you sign in at the start of your shift, sign in and out for breaks and then sign out at the end of the day. I work day rate. I don’t take scheduled breaks but now I’ll need to pretend that I do. I’ll need to be aware of the time every shift to call in. Seven minutes out and you don’t get paid. Urge to kill, rising.

    • Festus

Just told supervisor to go fuck himself. Ooops! We are plain-spoken folk up here in the hinterlands but I may have crossed a line.

    • limey

That’s gay. If you work regular shifts you could at least put a reminder on you phone or something.

  17. Festus

Judi misspelled her banner and now I’m the bad guy. Kill me now.

No chicken fried steak at the diner this morning. I can’t believe this is happening to me!

    • Gender Traitor

? I’m sorry! It sucks when you can’t engage in a favorite weekly(?) ritual.

SiriusXM has a Motown channel! ? For a limited time, unfortunately, but yay for Black History Month! ?

    • The Hyperbole

Are they going to start playing Boyz2men on Soultown again? They did that last year, it made Funk and Soul Fridays much less enjoyable.

      • Gender Traitor

Oh, lordy! I hope not! ?

I need to pay closer attention to their schedule. So Friday is the best day to find the funk? What time of day? I may need to fire up my decrepit little XMP3 portable radio at work again. (I have to lay it flat on its back to keep the dial on the front from falling off.) Maybe it really is time to see about their app for my phone…

      • The Hyperbole

Looks like they added a new channel for the Motown instead of bastardizing Soultown this year, they must have gotten my strongly worded emails. There’s nothing special about Soultown on Friday I just call it that as I try to listen to a different genre each day of the week.

      • Gender Traitor

Gotcha. When I’m listening through the week – mainly at work (when I’m not too busy) – I tend to bounce around between ’70s, ’80s, and Soul Town pretty much based on whatever song happens to come on. If it’s one I don’t particularly care for, it’s off to another channel.

Weekend mornings are for classical. In fact, it’s almost time for Baroque and Beyond!

      • Festus

You’ve been listening to the NAMBLA channel, Hype.
