Rain, snow, sun, hot, cold, what a weird spring it’s been. I have no idea how the crop season is going to go.
Links anyone?
Doesn’t he have to do something first?
It doesn’t get more Texas than this.
So if the Australian government is moving left, does this mean they will more, or less likely to go full Beijing on their citizens?
Now that’s what I call a dying culture.
“Hey, Vlad? You forgot your compost.”
Okay, that’s about it for that. Snark away, Glibs!
Go tranny to check another box?
Ha! You were first, and you said “first.” Yiu win a video from Conway Twitty!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4pnNrUqVago
::takes a bow::
Using the lowercase of First in the context of claiming something to be a First is like using the n-word and the c-word all rolled into one. You are a reprehensible bigot.
fffffffffffffffffffffffff
first
He could run as an independent, which would suck votes from whoever the Democrats nominate.
Third Deblasio term is “something”.
Seriously, he hasn’t diverted from the far-left platform one bit, despite pretending to make noises to do so.
That something is delusional.
Neph is busy tonight so I am hosting the zoom -complain about the weather version. Starts at 8pm Eastern.
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85015551574?pwd=ZFc0UWZuUWV0UHViTk42MTVBY1RTZz09
It’s flipping back into the 50’s, I’m so sick of this stupid ass weather, it should be warm and sunny but I guess that’s only for California,
GRRRRRR
Tall Cans!
Still over 95 here. Just gonna wait till tomorrow aft to finish mowing. Least it should be at least 10-15 degrees cooler for the long weekend.
Cool and dry enough for a morning mow.
Rat on a riding mower?
It got very warm and sunny here once the fog blew off. Warm enough to drag out the AC for the season.
That’s Michigan. Give it 5 minutes and you’ll have beach weather.
Regarding Plan 75 — now I’m envisioning a STTOS episode about that, and what they do to the old people who take the payout but don’t show up for euthanasia.
Plan 75 from Outer Space?
So, another version of Logan’s Run or Death Race 2000?
It was a STTNG episode
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half_a_Life_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation)
Now that’s what I call a dying culture.
Star Trek did it first.
This is the one
Ah. I was thinking of this episode. While it wasn’t about killing the old, it was about the state telling people when to show up at the disintegration booth.
Yep, the TNG one is a rehash of the TOS one, but with killing the “elderly” threescores instead of the war casualties.
That was a fantastic episode.
Also dying culture.
And Rammstein RULES!!!!!
Indeed. The title track from that album is excellent, too.
I bet you’d also like Eisbrecher
FAKK
Miststueck
On an Eisbrecher binge now
Himmel, Arsch, und Zwirn
Sturmfahrt
I’d swear that is the same singer of this more “electro” band I like a lot – but it isn’t.
Good stuff – must check out ?
Another – teilweise auf englisch
You know, these guys are pretty good. A little more of the club/dance sound than I care for, but not bad.
Wow. They really do sound similar.
Eisbrecher mostly stays heavy, but they definitely recognize the Industrial/Electro roots of Neue Deutsche Härte.
Alkohol (Roter Sand Remix)
I’m all into electro and yeah this is adjacent – I’ve certainly heard of them before if not explored.
I forgot about their early (first?) album, Sunde (because it’s pretty electro heavy…to my ears.) You might really dig it.
Toll!
Genießen!
Rotersand and SITD (the remix artists) are two of the (many) big German electro acts, BTW.
Spring
And it’s amazing how many videos only have the first movement.
no, it’s 254 variations of the same movement, it is Vivaldi you know.
also, Alana Youssefian, well done!
Of course, TY Ted,
The comment numbers are missing, hmmm
Not to get into too many details, be happy you can post.
^This.
ah, I did not know, thanks Messy and Tonio.
Have been since the great Squirrelapallooza earlier this week. This is a low-priority fix as it’s a cosmetic issue.
If y’all need an extra pair of hands from a lawyer who pretends to know how to work computers, you know how to reach me.
Thank you.
If a principal systems engineer who knows some stuff would be of help, please reach out (handle at protonmail)
Dammit, this was the perfect time to break out the “what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career” line and I just whiffed on it.
My skillz are highly specialized around all things database and SQL. And can write passable python code. Not sure they’d be of any use, but I am available if needed.
Ditto, but I also can fight thru perl reg-ex.
Thanks, everyone. We’ll reach out if needed.
I can help build a DevSecOps pipeline if that will help.
Monocle/Eyepiece took them away a long time ago. I forget they’re numbered until someone mentions it occasionally.
The staff aren’t manually adding the numbers?
Aayyyyy!
Loving County? Skeet? Is this a Tex Avery cartoon?
Also, theft of livestock was a hangin’ offense not so long ago.
*Checks price of steak*
Hangings may make a comeback.
I have been told only certain types of people are hanged, and that it is now a crime.
After the resounding success of Bloomberg and DeBLasio’s presidential runs, how can it not be a victory for Adams?
I hope this was just some flunky floating a trial balloon and not Adams actually thinking this.
I would expect nothing less. He is very full of himself.
DeBlasio is apparently gonna run for congress. That’ll be a joke.
Never underestimate the stupidity OF NYC voters. They elected him to two mayoral terms.
Was honestly surprised to read that the national government wasn’t already full left.
It’s more complicated than what the AP wrote (yeah, I know that’s surprising). As of right now, the Labour Party has only picked up 4 seats. The Lib/Nats have lost, maybe 23, which is, of course big. The big problem for Australia down the line is that the Greens won 2 new seats. Ten were won by independents, but most of those ran as “teal independents” against traditional Lib/Nat seats and ran EXPLICITLY on reducing greenhouse emissions faster than either Labour or the Lib/Nats.
The most likely outcome will be a minority Labour government reliant on the support of a group of independents who think that CAGW is the only issue worth worrying about.
Oops, I dropped the DQR and Championship update in the dead thread, so if anyone’s interested you’ll have to go there.
UCS is interested.
It’s a lot of work and I’ve considered shuttering the entire thing but I know how devastated he and Bro would be so I keep plugging away. I do it for them, I’m too damn nice for my own good.
. . . I’m too damn nice for my own good.
I’ve always said that about you.
. . .
What? Stop staring at my nose.
ahem
Uhhh.
Now what the fuck is the “Common Letter Distribution”?
It’s exactly what it says it is, the first number is the number of letters that are in all four solution words, the second number is the number of letter in three of the solution words, the third number is the number of letters in two of the solution words , the last number is for the letters that are only in one solution word, the number in parenthesis is for the letters that repeat in a word. Can’t be much more obvious than that.
This is turning into a no-shit job.
Also; nowhere near obvious.
QuordleBot had a lackluster first showing. The first seed word pretty much dictates how the game will go. The first guess eliminates between 80 and 90% of the wordlist (I’m using the list whiz used for his article). There’s a huge difference between having 1100 words left and having 500 words left for guess 2.
I’m trying to find a way to do better than randomly selecting from a huge seedlist (2k words or so) for the first guess. Algorithm for guess 2 needs some work, as well. It gets rather, erm, compute intensive if there are 1100 words left.
I’d would be interesting to see a bot army with different seed words. See how they all compete.
We can science the shit out of this thing.
Until the bots starting winning and take all the fun out of it and we all quit.
*UCS wet dream
I already quit but I’m interested in seeing how the bot army does.
I had to make 3 perfect guesses today to just stay in the game. And there are no clues which ones to pick.
I can just run the thing 10 times.
From what I’ve seen, the current bot would score 7 of the 10 at or a few points above the Tundra line, 1-2 in the teens, and 1-2 in the chump/near-chump range. I need to narrow down the seedlist to shift some of those less desirable outcomes in a better direction, but I haven’t found a good way to do that quite yet.
The Japan euthanasia for over 75 yo has already been done by ST:TNG. Counselor troi’s mom (Mrs Roddenberry) fell in love with a dude whose planet exterminated anyone over 60. She wanted him to run away and live out his natural lifespan with her, but he was programmed socially to do it and felt it was the noble thing to walk to his death.
We have a bunch of sheep socially programmed to end their own existence for the greater good. It’s disgusting.
Could be worse; Logan’s Run had them off themselves before 30!
Seems like a slightly odder take coming from Japan though – In the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex movie a few years back (“Solid State Society”) – there was a plot where an AI was “kidnapping” and brainwashing “unwanted” kids and registering them to dying oldsters who had no relatives – so that they could pass on their inheritance, etc – rather than having the government confiscate it….folks always have a desire to live on – vice giving up.
Roujin Z featured a robotic hospital bed that would do anything to preserve the life of its elderly patient.
Logan’s Run had them off themselves before 30!
Best sex is between 30-40. Can’t have that.
Speaking of Roddenberry, I’ve become absolutely enamored of his pre-Trek show The Lieutenant, about a young 2ndLt. in the USMC. The writing is mature, intelligent, and compelling (far more so than anything currently airing). It’s packed with fantastic guest stars – Bill Bixby, Ricardo Montalban, Dennis Hopper, Nichelle Nicholls, and Neville Brand (actual USMC Silver Star recipient). Y’all should check it out – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYE-Xyo4KBo&list=PLAVmnbCRuGgnwi3SmsSw0dsJL9-oFdUkx
My husband has recently gotten addicted to MeTV which shows old tv (esp Hawaii 5-0 Classic which he loves) so I get lots of updates about Ricardo Montalban’s guest appearances. Hardest working man in show biz for a decade apparently!
Ricardo had a tough time finding work after Star Trek II. Nobody wanted to hire an ex-Kahn.
Careful with that joke, it might get Tattoo’d on you.
This makes the quordle comments not seem so bad.
“Logan’s Run had them off themselves before 30!”
It was 21 in the book.
Raven!
Thanks for lunch the other day! Did you guys get pounded with the snow?
Thank you!
Yeah, we got about 8 inches where we’re staying at the moment – higher up than the valley floor. We survived though: the people for whom we are house-sitting have a hot tub and last night was made for it.
Yeah, no way York and Agutter could be passed off as 21.
Re: Russkie mobile crematoria – Wasn’t this exact same charge one of the more egregious pieces of allied propaganda wielded against the Kaiser’s Heer in The War To End All Wars?
I sent Elon my brief bona fides. It’s worth a shot.
Edit Faerie – HALP! That was supposed to be em – not strike.
[Edit Faerie blesses you even though it’s after hours]
Good.
When I saw his request, you were the first badass I thought of.
Good luck, man!
?
That would be really cool. Good luck!
Is there such thing as a Korean Coyote? Because if there is we need to hire one for Evan. That peninsula has spent the last few years actively trying to kill him.
No shit, I think he must have some form of Stockholm syndrome, why he hasn’t gotten the fuck outta there is beyond me.
Yes.
I didn’t know it was possible for the Aussie Gov to move more left.
Players that don’t fist-bump the fans as they come down the tunnel are fucking assholes. You are a performer, idiot.
Anyway, welcome to Spring, Spud! We got pounded yesterday with a weird winter storm. Power was off and on, but it appears to be good for now.
I hate to cheer for a technocrat, but I get the feeling that this Elon battle is really important. Especially with the MONKEYPOX looming.
Have a great rest of the weekend, peeps!
Even Mean Joe came around – https://youtu.be/xffOCZYX6F8
Thank you
Snow was down to about 8,000 feet over here. Ridiculous. Bring on the triple digits!
I heard that some spots up top got a couple feet.
Bring it, we’re dry as hell.
18 inches here.
What elevation?
7500.
Are we still talking about snow?
So, this Jamaican guy I saw the other day, 10 years younger than me, 6’4″, 170. Sorry, this is about snow.
Uh licky boom boom down.
Your daily dose of Sanford & son:
https://youtu.be/csy80N9LEaM
Maybe the best sitcom ever. Really enjoying these, Sean
?
Was it as funny as Steptoe and Son?
IMO, it’s one of those very rare instances where the American adaptation is better than the original. The Office is another one.
Ditto All In The Family
Man, a lot of the ’70s sitcoms really hold up. I was watching WKRP not to long ago, and it was miles ahead of anything from the last twenty years.
Meh, big “kids these days” vibe. Scrubs, Malcolm, Parks, Mod Fam, were as cromulent as any 70’s show, and I never watched ’em but people seem to like Big bang, and How I Met your Mom, and 2 1/2 men, It ain’t all crap and it wasn’t all better ‘back in the day’
Shit, I didn’t even mention Always Sunny, Arrested Development, Curb, Veep, Etc, Etc….
OK, I will give you those.
You must not have watched Two and Half Men because it’s absolute garbage.
Big bang, how I met your mother, and Friends were all the same show, just with different casts.
A lot of them don’t. They just didn’t last that long.
Can anyone explain how Happy Days lasted 11 years?!
Everyone was waiting to see if Chuck would come back.
I was waiting to see if The Fonz would ever be arrested for statutory rape.
A different time, I guess
Pinky Tuscedero was a grown-ass woman.
Huh. I never knew Winston’s Mom pursued an acting career.
The spin-off Joanie Loves Chachi was a ratings hit its first season.
Mork & Mindy ran for four season and it was terrible.
Yup, it’s unwatchable.
Sadly, MASH does not hold up simply because of the laugh track.
I’m so used to them from childhood that they don’t bother me.
By that standard, Scooby Doo doesn’t hold up. I refuse to live in that world.
I showed my daughter Scooby Doo for the first time today. She was distinctly unimpressed. She preferred Tom & Jerry and Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner.
Get her Schoolhouse Rock and Rocky & Bullwinkle.
Frostbite Falls is a truly glorious place.
Not trying to defend SD, but I’d think it’s geared more towards tweens and older.
That said, your daughter has exquisite taste in animation.
She’s right. SD is awful.
And stoners.
SD is awful.
I can’t even.
I thought it was because they Alan Alda direct, and it got all maudlin. It wasn’t a chicken, it was a baby!!!!!
First three seasons still work.
Man, the crazies are really dialing it up…
https://ktla.com/news/local-news/mass-shooting-leaves-1-dead-8-wounded-in-san-bernardino/
I’m convinced that “society” is cracking up a little bit. I just see and hear about more violence and bad behavior in general everywhere.
Just wait until the normies join the fun.
I added “bad behavior” specifically to include the normies. Many people who used to maybe kind of show some sort of respect for their neighbors, for example… all gone.
yeah. Lockdowns, I think, making people more anxious and antisocial, plus just the general awareness that you can get away with a lot more after the general rot in the law. You might get caught, but nothing will happen even if you are, so why not do whatever you want.
Wife told me about a small example of this at the local high school. Evidently the senior prank devolved into completely trashing the school to the point where they had to cancel the last two days of classes.
Senior pranks are usually funny, and are often getting close to that line of “too much” (e.g. dragging some old car into the cafeteria) , but wrecking up the place to the point that they cancel school? Maybe down at PS 159 down in the shit part of the city. Around here in the nicer suburbs? Unheard of.
“…the unpermitted event..”
Well now, there’s problem – no one had a permit
“Piled up hair and a cheap little ring, they don’t care cause it don’t mean a thing!”
SCIENCE!
Ugh work beckons me and my cocktail.
L0b0t sent me a dm about this flick – https://vinegarsyndrome.com/collections/deaf-crocodile/products/ilya-muromets-deaf-crocodile
Looks like VS has a big sale this next weekend but didn’t want to take the chance of this one going out of stock.
But may pick up Six String Samurai UHD and a couple others for 50% off.
Six Sigma Samurai would be more frightening.
Jesus Ted, you’ll give me nightmares!
lol Beastmaster is the only one on that total list I think I’ve seen.
Yeah, but I’ve seen reviews for all 3 of the Deaf Crocodile- and those ones at least sound very intriguing.
Too bad their prices are so high.
50% off everything during memorial day weekend.
That’s nice!
Six String was a real gem.
Does Australia use Dominion voting machines?
“Mr. Musk has not helped the stock price by turning his bid to buy Twitter into a financial soap opera. His antics have reinforced the perception that Tesla lacks an independent board of directors that could stop him from doing things that might damage the company’s business and brand,” The Times reported. “Tesla’s image is under pressure in ways that could hurt the automaker among the environmentally conscious, politically liberal customers who have long been its biggest customer base. The California Department of Fair Employment and Housing is suing Tesla, accusing it of allowing racial discrimination and harassment to flourish at its factory in Fremont, Calif., near San Francisco.”
Twatter, however, is exemplary. A well run company of the highest operational standards. Their Board does has no other concern but to uphold their fiduciary responsibilities.
I’m sure this wasn’t just totally made-up political theater.

Aaaaand yet another of our minor league baseball team’s games has been postponed until tomorrow after heavy rain earlier this evening. Of the six games we were supposed to see so far this year from our partial season ticket package, we’ve seen…two. ?/First World problem. (The U.S. is still considered “First World,” right?)
The real problem is wanting to watch baseball.
I just watched the craziest damn film, “Santo and the Fury of the Karate Masters.”
What the Hell did I just watch? I had to share with you.
https://tubitv.com/movies/650255/santo-the-fury-of-the-karate-masters
I felt like I was on drugs watching it.
The few lucha libre movies I’ve seen are *interesting*.
I just put on that movie during a party at the Tall Thin Spaniard what Lurks’ house. The living room is now empty.

Young Evan from Evansville is really starting to piss me off. Street fighting? Broken femur? We told you and told you but you just wont listen. I’m about ready to wash my hands of this. My step-son is just barely older than you but he is in the same boat. I trust that you’ll be able to weather the storm better than he will. Come home when you can. We’re all rooting for you, Dent-Head!
Indeed Kid needs to get out and home in the worst way.
Batching it again this weekend. Hopefully when my liver bursts forth it will just scurry away and die rather than become a xenomorph.
And I’m not even two Carousels old!
Hope you find your lost shaker of salt.

Good morning, Quordlers and lurkers! It’s cloudy and a bit breezy, but still pleasant at Tranquility Base this morning, recovering from the thunderboomers that passed through last evening. We were lucky, as it turns out – no tree damage evident on our street. When I went out on a commando raid last night – to procure the correct brand of potato salad from not-our-usual grocery – I discovered that a major thoroughfare just a couple blocks east of us was blocked by a fallen tree, and I saw another large, broken tree nearby. Our trees appear to be OK, including our remaining tulip poplar, which is blooming in the back yard! ??
Mocha iced coffee in the mug, and my favorite Sunday morning choral music show on the satellite radio! I hope all of you have a day this pleasant!
Good Morning GT:
Our rescue dog (here for 3 weeks before forever home) and three other dogs, and a couple do not fit well in a bed.
Up way to early.
Good news is that our homemade yogurt form the mini-cow is rather good.
Please dont tell the FDA.
Hope your Sunday is excellent.
Good morning, ‘bodru! I can sympathize with your pet predicament – even two cats (one of them very large) and a couple in a full-size bed makes a Saturday afternoon nap a bit of a challenge.
Has your bottle-feeding lambie rejoined the flock for keeps? Or is it still hanging out in your office, wreaking occasional havoc?
Curious what “style” yogurt you’re getting – Greek or otherwise?
Babe, or bookworm is now on the back porch.
She spent time with the flock yesterday, but ran back to the house with me (and through the gate) when I backed off.
Instapot recipe using store bought as starter. tangy and tart. with blueberries yum.

Morning
Good on the trees, GT, e had some wind a few days ago, apparently sort of strong. I haven’t been back in the woods to see any damage. Wood tick season so I try to avoid deliberately exposing myself (to the ticks).
Wise move, 4(20)! Ticks are icky! ?
