The One to Rule Them All

The bill that everyone was waiting on was released to the public on Wednesday.  Okay, maybe not everyone…

This is my review of Interboro Battleset Apple Brandy Barrel Aged Barleywine:

The bill in question is the Responsible Financial Innovation Act, aka “the crypto bill”.  Introduced by Sen. Lummis (WY) and Sen Gillibrand (NY), that the latter co-sponsored it leads me to believe it has a decent size blessing from Wall St.  Just put this on in the background while you read about it.

Happily they provide a quick section by section overview for those that wish not to read a 69 page bill.  A few that may be of note to those with a more than passing interest in the subject might be:

Section 201 De Minimis Exclusion Provides a de minimis exclusion of up to $200 per transaction from a taxpayer’s gross income for use of virtual currency for payment for goods and services, under specified conditions.

Section 205 Digital Asset Lending Agreements Establishes that digital asset lending agreements are not generally taxable events, in the same way that securities lending transactions are not today.

Section 208 Digital Asset Mining and Staking Declares that digital assets obtained from mining or staking activities do not form part of a taxpayer’s gross income until the disposition of those assets.

Section 2 is what most crypto nerds are excited about.  The bill in it’s entirety not only defines cryptocurrency legally, it also opens a few legal doors many in finance seemed wary about because in many cases its easier legally to wait for permission.  Section 201 is the biggest gripe because $200 is a tank of gas in some parts of the country and soon enough $200 isn’t going to buy much anything.  I’m confident however, that some crypto geek will figure out a way around it.   Section 208 on the other hand is one to be somewhat excited about. Currently, mining and staking returns can be taxed as income.

Section 408 Payment Stablecoins Provides that a payment stablecoin issued by a depository institution (bank/credit union) is neither a commodity, nor a security.

Hmm. This one is making me rethink my small investments in Stellar and Ripple.

The bill is not however go without a clause to enable the Orwellian bureaucratic machine:

Section 602 Sanctions Compliance for Payment Stablecoin Issuers Requires the Office of Foreign Assets Control to develop guidance articulating the sanctions compliance responsibilities and liabilities of an issuer of payment stablecoins.

We’re all on a list somewhere.

One thing to note about this beer is it was by chance that I found it. Not sure where else you can find one of these floating around.  You might think the apple brandy might make it a touch too sweet, and you wouldn’t be wrong.  There’s way too much going on with this one to drink cold.  Apple, cinnamon, vanilla, dark fruit (think figs not berries).  Let it warm a bit and you get a lot more out of it. 11% abv so maybe don’t operate a crane after drinking this for lunch? Who am I to judge? Interboro Battleset Apple Brandy Barrel Aged Barleywine: 4.3/5

My hope is that crypto innovation will always stay ahead of stagnant government regulation.

    • R.J.

Jeez, did The Man come take everyone away but me?

      • UnCivilServant

        yes.

I’m waiting for glue to dry and debating priming a mini.

      • R.J.

Housecleaning here. Nuking the clothes washer. It’s a mess. Not t trying a beer yet. May go to Total Wine and look around. Sharpshooter always inspires me.

      • UnCivilServant

I should be cleaning the kitchen… but I need more motivation

      • rhywun

I have one foot out the door but my headphones need charging first.

        I’ve been working.

        On a Saturday?

      • Mojeaux

I will be working also in a bit.

If you’re gonna say it, you ought to play it.

      • Ted S.

        I would have played this

      • rhywun

Not me. I earned a 2nd weekend off in a row.

      • Tulip

Took dog to vet this morning. Now getting ready to take a nap.

      • slumbrew

Trying out the powerwasher on the car.

Should have bought one years ago.

      • R.J.

Those are so awesome. What I need is a pressure washer for sidewalks and bricks. I can never make a decision on one.

      • Gustave Lytton

Did you get a foam gun? I haven’t tried that yet. I’m stuck in All Summer in a Day.

      • slumbrew

No, just a cheap Ryobi I bought from my neighbor before he moved overseas; looks like there’s some sort of soap injection port but it didn’t come with the hose.

I just hand-soaped the car – did a pretty good job.

I just pressure washed the vinyl fence afterwards – that made a huge difference.

I also hit a spot of concrete on the side of the house – also a huge difference. I need to blow that side clear of debris, but I’ll pressure wash all the concrete afterwards.

        Nice.

        You were with Q?

      • Tundra

        I believe he’s otherwise occupied.

      • Chafed

Looks like he was searching for Pikes Peak.

      • Tundra

        Definitely going for the summit.

Awesome! On a clear enough day, supposedly can see Kansas City.

Kiddo’s graduating from high school today! So i’m taking a break from decorating and tidying up before I have to take him to the school.

    • MikeS

      Congrats! Have a great day!

    • Chafed

      Congratulations!

  6. The Late P Brooks

I’m trying to decide if I should go down to the new house and rip out some more disgusting filthy carpet, or take a day off. It ain’t gonna leave on its own.

If Senator Sorority Girl is involved in legislation, I have to presume it’s bad.

    • Lackadaisical

      That was my reaction.

      • Lackadaisical

Plus, bipartisan, so presumably bad for that reason as well.

    • R.J.

WE DON’T NEED NO STEEKING REGULATIONS!!!!

  7. Spudalicious

You like this beer. I’m having some leftover Brother Thelonious.

    • Nephilium

      What’s this “leftover” Brother Thelonious?

      • Spudalicious

There’s no way I have the capacity for a big bottle in one sitting.

      • Nephilium

I thought the biggest that came in was the 750 ml bottle.

      • mexican sharpshooter

        Not with that attitude

      • Lackadaisical

        Heh, good point.

My wife made me some ice coffee with some frangelico thrown in. Delicious.

  8. Lackadaisical

Clearly MS ‘s reviewed are suffering from grade inflation. It he’s spending so much on these now that he HAS to like them.

    • mexican sharpshooter

Hmm…you might be on to something.

      • Chafed

4.3 for a barleywine you only sort of like is a definite indication.

  9. The Late P Brooks

Plus, bipartisan, so presumably bad for that reason as well.

Indeed. Whenever I hear the term “bipartisan consensus” my ass starts to hurt.

    • Fourscore

Half way between 2 bad ideas

      • juris imprudent

Compromise by combining the worst aspects of both.

      • R C Dean

I find the juxtaposition of Brook’s comment and 4×20’s reply amusing.

      • Lackadaisical

        Serious lol.

  10. juris imprudent

Back from errands. Bought a Blackstone griddle (which will mean I can smoke steaks on the Traeger and then reverse-sear on the Blackstone).

    • R.J.

I did Home Depot, replaced a toilet lid and did the AC filter. It’s 103 so I am declining to go scrub the outdoor grill. Got some Four Roses bourbon and a good cigar for later when it drops under 95.
I just found a fun film called “Ghost Car” that had Adam West, the Winchester Mystery House, and car history. Loving it!

      https://tubitv.com/video/635821

      • mexican sharpshooter

Is that about a car without a VIN?

      • R.J.

        Heh. Snark for the win!

      • Gustave Lytton

        That’s sounds like fun.

  11. Gustave Lytton

Was wondering why every employee at Safeway was wearing a mask again. CDC changed the community level to high so that’s probably the trigger. Luckily my idiot company has decided that masks will only be recommended not mandated.

    • R.J.

Inspector Clouseau would like to remind you of the danger of Minkeypox. Beware. Stay away from minkeys for two weeks to flatten the curve.

      • Tres Cool

“Monsieur I am a musician. The minkey- he is a business man.”

      • R C Dean

Monkey pox came up on my fishing trip. All agreed when I said “I’m not worried, on account of I don’t go around fucking monkeys.”

      • Chafed

Why do you discriminate against monkeys!?! Speciesist.

    • Ted S.

The local (non-chain) pharmacy we were in this morning wasn’t masking.

    • mexican sharpshooter

Very few that aren’t elderly are wearing masks anymore where I am. The only place I anticipated requiring one was the blood bank, but even they stopped since the last time I was there in January.

    • rhywun

I still see them a lot but it’s mostly predictable by age and/or ethnicity. And it’s much more common with the help.

  12. The Late P Brooks

    If A, then grocery store

As the youth-led March for Our Lives rallies happen across the nation this weekend to advocate for stricter gun laws, I’m reminded that nothing says “Welcome back to America” like the quiet anxiety that comes with knowing you can be shot doing the most mundane things.

In 2019, this fear that rests just beneath the surface of the consciousness of many living in the United States bubbled up to the surface for me. I returned to the U.S. after five years of teaching overseas. Basking in the glow of being back in my beloved New York City, I walked down 23rd Street. Further down the block, I saw two men arguing. There was cursing. There was pushing. With each step I took, the tension rose and became clearer.

I was witnessing this squabble a year after students and teachers in Parkland, Florida, had been going about their everyday routines at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School when they became the latest victims of the country’s problem of easy access to guns.

You’ll end up in the Hall of Fame stealing bases like that.

What if we make shooting random strangers illegal? Once something is against the law, it never ever happens again.

    • Grumbletarian

The fear of being shot while doing everyday things is crippling — and very American

It’s not ‘very American,’ it’s very stupid.

I’d wager this quivering mass of cowardice wasn’t teaching statistics overseas.

    • one true athena

“Gun free zones” works so well, after all.

    • mexican sharpshooter

So, two homeless assholes from NYC ==> mass murder?

    • Tundra

This pussy would probably get the vapors from the story of Lance Thomas.

      Hey man, nice shot(s).

      • R.J.

That’s a man right there. Fuck that pussy in the article. We need a special reservation for pussies so they can all hide and leave us alone.

      • rhywun

        the story of Lance Thomas.

Turdeau snarls his lip and huffs away in disgust.

    • rhywun

Now do shitty neighborhoods across America but mostly concentrated in very specific and well-known neighborhoods – the sort you’d never be caught dead walking through, you know, where most of the murders are that you and your kind studiously ignore and where people have LONG lived in fear and your kind do nothing but make it worse.

    • juris imprudent

back in my beloved New York City

      Well, there’s the first problem.

    • Chafed

That explains the demonstration I saw today.

  13. The Late P Brooks

I’d wager this quivering mass of cowardice wasn’t teaching statistics overseas.

She was too busy seeing lynch mobs under every rock and slave catchers behind every tree.

  14. hayeksplosives

I just got back from the Pahrump Dollar Tree where I bought one of each of the action figures and accessories in CPRM’s article from this morning.

Not sure yet if I’m giving them to the grandkids or keeping them…

  15. Gender Traitor

Just spent some time tidying up all my music gear at one end of the finished part of the basement – the former band practice space, which is in the process of being converted into a high(er)-end audio listening space. Soooooo many drums! A full acoustic kit – far nicer than I deserve – all packed up and stacked up in its various travel bags. Part of a full electronic kit (the rack and almost all the pads are elsewhere in the basement,) congas, bongos, two djembes, and a doumbek (plus one little metal “finger doumbek” that’s more ornamental than musical,) and all the various stands for same. Oh, yeah – and my one acoustic guitar that hasn’t been out of its case for years. And right now, I can’t bring myself to part with any of it. At least now I have it arranged neatly and as compactly as I could manage.

    • Tres Cool

Since its going to rain tomorrow and heat up this week got the grass cut. I a made Jambalaya, some brisket, and cole slaw.
Jugsy’s friends are visiting so I have ear buds in.

      • Gender Traitor

I need to get back out and week whack later. Tried earlier, but the better battery needed charging. Pork steaks are going on the grill later, and I’ll probably make a commando raid to Kroger in the ‘hood for a three-pounder of our favorite brand of potato salad. (Yes, I know it’s carb-loaded, but it’s SO GOOD!!!)

      • Tundra

Potatoes are high in potassium. Don’t worry about it!

      • Gender Traitor

That’s one of the many things I like about you, Tundy! ?

      • Chafed

        Lol

    • Grosspatzer

Ooh! You’re going on tour? Any gigs in the NJ area?

      • Gender Traitor

Sorry, no. The band retired a few years ago, but then Tom T. unretired for a while. Now he claims he really is retired…except he’ll go to Open Mics every so often…

      • Yusef drives a Kia

That’s why We started work on our latest album, we haven’t written one in a few years but we have lot’s of new ideas.

  18. The Late P Brooks

The victim fled with his rifle while the accused robber, who had been shot several times, remained on the scene. A third man then also shot him, police said.

    *guffaws*

  19. Sean

It’s been a busy day. What the hell you people been doing around here?
