A funky little tune for your reading pleasure.
CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION: Bruen dropped today and there was much rejoicing in some quarters, but wailing and gnashing of dentures in others. Be sure to read the part of the opinion (below) referencing Dred Scott; Justice Thomas has been waiting his entire career to write this. Happy Birthday, Mr. Justice, and thanks.
CONGRESSCRITTERS SAD THAT NOBODY CARES ABOUT THEIR SHOW TRIAL J6 HEARINGS: Democratic lawmakers spoke candidly about how the electorate does not care about political theater; care more about selfish concerns like inflation, food shortages. In related news, kangaroo court select committee puts hearings on hold, presumably until after SCOTUS stops stealing all the headlines.
PLAY STUPID GAMES, WIN STUPID PRIZES: Putin, the source of all of our problems, renames street in front of US Embassy in Moscow to Donetsk People’s Republic Square. DPR is a breakaway region of the Ukraine which seeks to be part of Russia. This follows the US renaming the street in Washington outside the Saudi embassy to Jamal Khashoggi Way, after the slain journalist and Saudi national.
TAKE THAT, RON73440: Psyche magazine progsplains how stoics are just a bunch of selfish assholes. Rebuttals by Warty and HM: Don’t do this thing that will help you, instead, be as anxious and depressed as possible so you can help bring about socialism. It’s a fundamental misunderstanding of both Stoicism and Buddhism. By improving your reaction to things, you are improving the world by changing the only thing you can – yourself. Marcus Aurelius talks extensively about helping others because what’s good for the hive is good for the bee.
You kids go out and party tonight. “Shall NOT be infringed…”
I may buy a new rifle today to celebrate.
Do it.
I got a new rifle this week (and a pistol). 🙂
Good idea. Maybe I’ll pull the trigger on a new Staccato C2 this evening…
I’ve been looking for a side-loader in .357. I paid nearly that for a Henry but it’s a tube loader.
I had a Marlin but, like a dope, I sold it.
I have one of those Marlins. Love that thing.
A friend just bought a “tactical” lever action in .357 that has a forward MLOK rail and a threaded 16.1″ barrel threaded for silencer. Really nice!
Every time I see one of those Tacticool lever guns, it makes me want to step up my search for a really nice pre-64 Winchester 94.
Nice!
I’ve decided that except for a rifle a relative might sell, I won’t buy anything until after I get more shooting and more deferred maintenance done.
Assuming your life-critical needs are covered, this is really the right answer.
Though note I didn’t define “more”. 😉
On a serious note, I really do need to get deferred maintenance done. I have started some progress on the deferred maintenance: I have a Kar98k in pieces. I have the stock cleaned and re-oiled. I need to get it back together and then off to a gunsmith. There is a crack down the center of the stock from the recoil bar back to the rear action screw. You can’t see the crack unless the rifle is apart as the crack is through all the bits of wood in the center which are covered by the receiver and trigger guard/magazine. A former coworker knows a good gunsmith. I need to talk to him.
That’s gonna be a little awkward to concealed carry.
That’s what oilskin duster coats are for.
https://thumbs.gfycat.com/ActualWellgroomedCrustacean-max-1mb.gif
Have that in the Trapper model .357 and love it. Great brush gun. Bought myself a PSA AR 9 pistol kit this week for a project when it is too hot to be outside this Summer.
Two more political persons arrested and/or raided today.
Early morning raid on Jeffery Clark, Trumps potential replacement for Barr at the time
Nevada GOP chairman has phone seized by FBI today
That makes 4 high profile moves by FBI on a political party.
Now, maybe there was some really secret nefarious things going on with ‘fake electors’ but the method that the FBI is taking screams political persecution in my opinion.
Assume the worst when pondering the FBI’s motivations and you’ll probably be right.
I’m remembering the tape of the FBI negotiator with one of the Branch Davidians during the siege at Waco.
“There were no guns on those helicopters.”
“There were guns but they didn’t fire on you.”
“There were guns and we shot at you, but not with the mounted machine guns.”
I really think the end game of the Democrats is to ban the Republican party. They’re now using the terms “white supremacist” and “domestic terrorist” on Republican politicians. And those things, as Biden said, are the biggest threat to our democracy. Which means the FBI needs to investigate, right?
One-party democracy, TOK.
Ukrainian democracy!
It’s the only way to get back to their core purpose of enslaving people.
Apparently, partying is age-restricted.
Fighting for your right is Nazi talk.
That’s just nietzche clean fun
Okay, that’s weird it wasn’t age restricted when I searched for it on YouTube when I was composing this article. Now the link wants me to sign in, and I don’t even have a fecking YouTube account. Sorry, everyone.
I just had to click through. Thanks, Brave!
It worked for me in Chrome. Anyway, here is one for our proggie friends.

One for my fellow oldsters.
Love the Replacements! Thanks for reminding me to pull uo their albums again!
I’m going to party my way. It’s good for my .
Well, that was weird.
Stoopit squirrels.
I meant it was good for my Metal Health.
You have to sign in to see a Beastie Boys video? WTF is the world coming to?
I like that Kool and the Gang song.
I tapped out of the Psyche article at this bullshit:
a bad one: Nero, whom legend has condemned for fiddling while Rome burned
Most certainly not true.
Maybe their out is “legend has condemned”. I don’t care, fuck them.
Another good Kool & The Gang song.
Kool and the Gang song relevant for today
Sorry about the video (see above).
Oh, the article is complete bullshit, but it’s good to know what progs are saying about us. Anything that promotes individualism and self-reliance must be condemned.
Thanks for the tune.
Sorry about the video (see above).
Animal’s comment was the only one when I posted. That’s what I get for typing slow.
Anything that promotes individualism and self-reliance must be condemned.
This is something I’ve noticed among Progressives.
Thanks for the tune.
You’re welcome!
That shitbag’s not worthy to clean Aurelius’ latrine sponge. Fuck off Henry.
Latrine sponge for the WIN, Stinky.
They supposedly will extend the J6 debacle cause “new video” has emerged. The new video? A production piece on the 2020 election. Totes valid evidence
Still waiting on the 14,000 hours of video they refuse to release.
*taps foot*
They have to cut it first. The whole thing is playing out like a bad Tom Berenger movie at this point.
Worse than Major League II.
They only release the video that helps them. Imagine the number of hours they have put into watching, cataloging, and cross-referencing the video to make sure they don’t accidentally release anything exculpatory or that contradicts their assertions. All I can say is that we may see a whole new set of hearings after the next election – hearings with a very different focus from the current hearings.
That’s what I’m thinking.
Someone is going to low crawl across the Capitol lawn to take potshots at members of Congress? Oh, you said bad Tom Berenger movies. My bad.
I’m going out to dinner tonight and carry a firearm in honor of the Supreme Court.
That does make me wonder how the process actually works.
Right now New York has been told “No, you can’t do it that way” but hasn’t yet done anything to change their processes. I know the gov wants to hold an emergency session to cram additional ‘objective’ requirements to prevent law abiding gunowners from existing, but does everyone with a limited permit now have the unresitricted carry element? Are those of us who haven’t gotten the paperwork in because we don’t know four character references still shit out of luck?
If I still lived in NJ, I would be apply for a permit right now.
I still don’t know four people I’d ask to be the character references the current form requires.
It’ll probably be a dozen or more when they revise the process.
“UCS is a swell fella. He probably will not shoot another fellas unless they really needed killin’. Never mind his shifty eyes or his delicate shooting gloves.”
There is one character reference in the bank, UCS!
Yeah, I don’t think that will fly with the local PD.
Are there any shall issue states that require character references? That seems subjective.
I don’t know.
I just know what the current New York paperwork looks like. If I tried to file for a permit today, I’d have to use the current forms.
PA.
NH was shall-issue before I moved to NH. NH has constitutional carry now. NH still issues permits for reciprocity. NH has required character references at least since I moved to the state.
PA does but they often don’t bother calling them
NJ requires them for the FID – which allows you to buy a long gun and ammo. Also need them for a pistol purchase permit. Sometimes they actually reach out to the references. Was contacted once for a shooting buddy.
I still don’t know four people I’d ask to be the character references the current form requires.
What are the requirements to be a character reference? Depending on that, you could probably get your four signatures right here.
You have to fill out and sign a form, ( This one ), and sign the main application (both copies as it needs to be turn in in duplicate)
And of course, the PD’s web site still contains the warning
Assholes. It’s not a privilege, I shouldn’t even have to ask permission to avoid being thrown in a rapecage for exercising basic rights.
Hell, I’d sign it for you. I just need your real name and address.
I’d sign it as well. I met UCS IRL and he seems every bit as you would expect for a New Yorker.
Nope, they still have the bullshit in place and once you’re denied a carry permit you are ineligible going forward.
You would think that the D’s would be happy with the ruling, as it takes the pressure of of the J6 hearing aid, which, you have to admit, would be just getting savaged if they didn’t have this celebration.
Savaged?
Even worse: completely ignored. Last week NBC cut to an early round of the US Open instead.
Now, that passed savaged and moved to rekd!
Next scheduled hearings, NBC will pre-empt to show the movie “Heidi” instead.
ROFL
So what does this mean for the states that require permission-slips? I assume there will be another round of lawsuits?
Permitting is allowed, but it cannot be onerous.
I had assumed Tundra was asking about places like New Jersey rather than the shall issue states. I’m so provincial.
*shrug*
Both, really.
Shall issue still means “i can fuck with you if I want.”
Unless they change their processess to be compliant, there will be more lawsuits, and more rulings that will be ignored/evaded.
https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/paula-bolyard/2022/06/23/breaking-supreme-court-issues-landmark-ruling-expanding-gun-rights-n1607473
That’s what common sense gun regulation looks like.
Well regulated, in my eyes.
Oddly, the 2A refers to the milita as well-regulated, not the keeping and bearing of arms.
And “well regulated “, at the time, meant “in good working order”. A watch that kept very accurate time was said to be well regulated.
Thanks.
Expanded reciprocity would be groovy, too.
Dammit Thomas! Stop using a copy of the constitution with the invisible ink.
Gun rights weren’t “expanded”. They were restored.
Exactly
IANAL. But yes, there will be procedural hurdles much as DC tried post-Heller. But we are winning. Momentum is being gained. [coughs] Don’t harsh my mellow, Bro.

Not trying to, just trying to understand where the monsters will try to fuck with us next.

Boots and pants, boots and pants
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Sir! Yes, sir!

H… Hunter?!?
Or that limit the places you can legally carry?
The Court said that was totes OK.
No conflict of interest there at all.
The Bee has tried to help.
It took 12 networks to get 20 million and had to interrupt regularly scheduled programming to get it.
Hello everyone. I haven’t been posting much lately, but I have been reading and lurking.
I wanted to single out Kbolino for his thought provoking article last night as well as the discussion/debate that it spawned.
The Breuen decision was a great accomplishment and the timing couldn’t have been better. I had two NYC people text me about helping them pick a CCW.
The article about Stoics being just a bunch of selfish assholes misses the point of a philosophy. Your supposed to strive to become, all of the examples used are the most hyperbolic. It also suggests you should just cry and ruminate when bad stuff happens.
Welcome back, buddy.
Thanks Tonio.
Appreciate it, I will endeavor to write another soon…
UNH poll puts DeSantis ahead of Trump
The latest poll of Granite State voters sent shockwaves across American politics when it found Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis leading former President Donald Trump in a theoretical head-to-head GOP primary match-up in “First in the Nation” New Hampshire.
The conservative website Hotair.com gave it the headline “Earthquake,” while Mediaite calls it a “shock poll.”
The same UNH Survey Center poll also found DeSantis far outperforming the former president in a potential race against President Joe Biden in New Hampshire. Trump is still losing by seven points (as he did in 2020), while DeSantis has a one-point lead.
Good. I hope his lead builds. I’m glad Trump knocked off Hillary but I don’t want him back.
Yeah, but if you click through to the poll it says “tied.”
I’m more concerned that Deep State Mike doubled his percentage.
I love Thomas’ use of Taney’s opinion from Dred Scott. The progs will ignore it of course. But historical fact is a bitch.
#metoo
That is one of the most beautiful pieces of legal writing I’ve ever read. And I’ve read a lot of court opinions.
Agreed. Dude has waited his entire career for this and he does not disappoint.
Also, the Bee.
Oh my.
OMG. I’m literally crying with joy at reading that.
Ditto. The Bee hit a full old-school tomahawk dunk with that one.
#metoo
hahaha
LMAO. Awesome.
So, I skimmed that stoicism article. It seems to follow a familiar pattern:
1. Pick a topic that is newly interesting to a lot of people
2. Cover aspects of it truthfully.
3. Twist other aspects or misrepresent them to create a chimera of the original idea.
4. Condemn the chimera
Assholes.
+1 going to gym will make you a nazi
And give you covid!
I found a picture of the author.
It’s called a hit-piece, RN.
Yeah, I know. I just don’t understand the mentality. If you really don’t like something, why not write a vigorous critique?
I guess one conclusion is that so few people today know how to engage with ideas with which they disagree.
Because when you can’t win on the merits, either because you’re a lazy, shit writer, or because the facts don’t support you — fling poo.
That takes work, it’s much easier to do battle with strawmen.
I’m just not in a really good state.
Heh
At least we are not NY. Today’s big news highlighted it.
“It’s a fundamental misunderstanding of both Stoicism and Buddhism.”
This. I study more Buddhism but I like the similarities with Stoicism that I read here. In both cases, it might seem like you’re supposed to just accept everything, but you can just apply the serenity prayer: Change the things you can, and accept the things you cannot change.
He’s arguing in favor of temper tantrums, depression, and drama.
With my oldest two kids, we went through group therapy for a year. They used DBT, which is based on Buddhist teachings. I saw kids who were in really bad shape, with eating disorders, suicide attempts, etc. thrive once they learned DBT skills.
I look at the left and all I see is those kids BEFORE they got into therapy.
That sounds cool.
Can you recommend a place to learn more about it?
I did a quick search, and found a site that looks decent. I’ll start you with a list of cognitive distortions.
If those sound familiar, it’s because everyone on the left (media, politicians, activists) uses them all the time.
Perfect. Thanks, Kev!
Well, I have been prey to every one of those behaviors since I was a child and I still do them and it frustrates my husband to no end. WHY can’t I just take my husband’s word for it? It frustrates me, too, don’t mistake me, but I don’t know how to stop doing them.
We were in therapy for a year with each kid. But all the parents learned this stuff along with the kids. The best thing I can say is, it helps if you recognize it and put a label on it while you’re doing it.
DBT is the best psychotherapeutic treatment for Borderline Personality Disorder. It’s completely changed the approach to Borderline for the better. Too bad it’s only a relatively recent development, perhaps that bunny never would have been boiled (that portrayal was the top-ever depiction of a Borderline in film, BTW).
I am going to find a therapist who does this, although I was suggested EMDR therapy instead.
We all tend to favor what we’re good at, so…
He stoiced the gay away?
[golf clap]
If you type “Illuminati” backwards, followed by a dot com as a URL, you will be directed to the US government’s National Security page.
1) Strangely this works.
2) I don’t know if I’m on a new list or simply added to my pre-existing file.
Think it’s a redirect script…probably a bored person with that domain.
I should do that with my website that I don’t use any more and redirect the zero visitors here.
Don’t you think there’s enough riff raff here already? At least the riff raff we have now are self-selected and screened for deplorability. Random normie riff raff would just be boring.
Are you kidding. They would bail in about 15 minutes.
2 on Wednesday at lunchtime!
I’m assuming the owner of the URL just does a redirect to the page. Kind of funny, though.
*blinks*
Don’t first shame me, bro.
The Judge is happy.
He must be happy, he didn’t even ask a single question.
IKR.
Even so, if it requires permission (permit), it’s still a privilege not a right. Baby steps, I guess.
As I never tire of reminding people, a license or permit is just a ban wrapped in a bureaucracy.
‘This follows the US renaming the street in Washington outside the Saudi embassy to Jamal Khashoggi Way, after the slain journalist and Saudi national.’
Sigh, when do we build the statue to this guy?
Will our embassy in Beijing now be on George Floyd was Murdered by Capitalist Running Dogs Way? Come to think of it, the State Dept would embrace it.
Kari makes me kind of tingly.
I like how she doesn’t let go of the chick’s hand. Alpha.
Dayum! I like her.
SHe’s a former TMITE. It’s why she’s hot and knows how to fight these fucks.
To try to process these forms efficiently, I’ve extended my remote session across both my big home monitors, and it still feels crowded.
I hate paperwork.
I hate vendors who pull shenanigans to try to get their guy into an interview.
Look, he’s clearly a developer, and this is a Sysadmin role. Don’t waste his time, or mine.
Dammit, people – Stop bolding random keywords in resumes. It makes it harder to read and makes me less likely to want to interview you.
I need to get this done soon. I was confused when a candidate’s form spoke about creating YAML Files, and my mind went to the Mod for MechWarrior 5 “Yet Another Mech Lab” instead of “Yet Another Markup Language”
I can create txt files.
Serious, who puts that on a resume?
Oh, I had one where they listed opening SRs and downloading files. Not doing the installation, just downloading the files.
Fascinating tutorial on rescuing and unconscious swimmer.

After approvingly quoting the opinion stating that citizens have the right to keep and bear arms wherever they went, he went on to give a laundry list of ways that this right can be restricted by the states, including requiring licenses (a ban wrapped in a bureaucracy) and restricting the carrying of guns in various places.
The opinion seems to be a mixed bag, to me. After huffing and puffing about how the Court is supposed to defer to the Constitution and not state legislatures, etc., and should evaluate gun control laws based on their prevalence historically (meaning, before the 20th century), they made sure to give us a laundry list of restrictions that have no sound historical basis before the 20th century that they nonetheless blessed as consistent with the Second Amendment.
Eh, I’m inclined to take the small wins where I can get them. Would I prefer the Court to state “Listen… the only restrictions on ownership we’re going to countenance are by children, certified lunatics, and violent felons — and ‘arms’ means everything up to crew-served weapons and man-portable SAMs.”? Sure. But the fight against victim disarmament legislation, like the fight to rein in the administrative state, is incremental and will take some time.
Ownership by children is up to parents and violent felons should be imprisoned. Once released, their rights should be rehabilitated like any other citizen. If they’re too dangerous to exercise those rights, they shouldn’t be released.
But if we say they are rehabilitated how will we ensure a steady reentry into the prisons?
Ownership by children is up to parents
Yeah, I didn’t think that one all the way through. I was thinking more of the histrionic cat ladies who say things like “What, you want six-year olds to carry guns to school?”
/BB rifle at six years of age, .22 at ten
/carried a Swiss Army knife often from middle school onward and folder & multi tool from HS onward.
I’d endorse the rules that appeared to be in force 125 years ago (that is, no restrictions) whereby you could go to Sears catalog, pick out a nice revolver or lever action rifle, send them a money order, and go pick the firearm at the Adams Express office at the depot. No age restrictions, no “are you a convicted felon,” no “are you mentally ill” or “why do you need a firearm” or “register first with your local police station.” On the other side of the coin, if one is convicted of committing a crime while using a firearm, an additional ten years incarceration with no parole is added to whatever sentence the specific crime carries.
Sounds perfect to me.
Garden report: still picking lettuce and green beans (I have broken even on the beans, including amortized containers, lettuce broke even earlier). Picked more beats. All tomato varieties are starting to fruit.
My lilies are blooming – stargazer, calla, couple other unknown varieties as well as dahlias and four o’clocks just starting. The gladiolas are doing well and should start in a few weeks.. Best moment, older couple walking by with their granddaughter “oh wow! Look how pretty!” followed by a discussion of what kind of flowers they are.
One of the things I miss about the old house was our insanely nice landscaping (my wife’s work, naturally). It was always very flattering to have people stop to say how beautiful it was.
Do you pickle those beets? I am trying my best to like them and it’s just not working. Pickled is the closest I’ve come.
No, I usually roast them, toss with goat’s cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette, walnuts, and serve on lettuce. I hated them as a kid, but love them now. Forgot to mention, zucchini, butternut squash, a cantaloupe are all blooming.
Ok, I’ll try that. Thanks, Tulip! I know they are really good for me.
Big, big fan of cantaloupe, though.
Wrap beets in foil, put on tray in 400 degree oven. Remove as done (test with knife), coll enough to handle, rub the skin off with paper towels. Cut. While still warm toss with dressing. Serve warm or room temp. Perfect for taking for lunch.
My favorite is peeling and quartering small beets, tossing with olive oil, balsamic and seasoned with S&P. Same wrap in foil and a 400 degree oven. Very versatile.
I think they’re easier to peel if roasted first. But, it’s all about preference.
Pickled is the only way I like them but I like them a lot when pickled. I powdered the cabbage and peppers today, something eating on the leaves. Some of the young apple trees are being eaten on and looks like maybe some leaf rollers involed.
I am delighted with the happy links. To celebrate, I had a Black Market cigar and whiskey. Now making beef fajita nachos.
Cubano?
Eeesh- I’m enjoying my time on orders right now. Carrier inspection last week, lots of admin special support projects this week and the next couple of weeks (before 2 more weeks of inspections the end of july) before I regain my traditional contract job. But good gravy….reserve pay is so inconsistent. Currently waiting on travel pay, 1 drill pay and pay for the week (no LES generated yet – normally represents pay 1 week from that date).
I like the work but hard to plan finances, etc when you don’t know when pay will show up even when Net is still around the same…
Rittenhouse has a game that he is hoping to fund his fight against the media and defamation…..called it Turkey Shoot.
