That’s all I got for today. I’ll leave you with a song and move along with my day.
Public responds that Twitter was a “s***show” internally before the Musk deal… 😉
Morning, Banjos!
I thought Twiitter was not happy with the take-over — certainly the employees weren’t. Now they want to force it. Their PTB must know that TWTR isn’t actually worth was Elon was willing to pay.
They have lost a significant amount on the stock price that Elon set his buy at. He proposed $54.20/share. Today, Twitter is at $36.13/share.
“J6 panel shuns live testimony from Trump associates, prefers to slice and dice taped depositions”
The whole thing is just so ridiculous. Since when are rumors evidence?
When they paint the target of the witch hunt in a bad light.
Witch Hunt you say?

More seriously, I’ve always hated the Euro, the name, the concept, the whole shebang. May the countries free themselves of its tyranny and exit the EU’s dominion. That Totalitarian Bureaucracy needs to die faster.
If Vlad doesn’t turn their gas back on, it will go a lot lower.

Not to mention the deliberate machinations of the global elite.
Same thing.
Yup.. I had a longer comment on that but the server keeps refusing me. Short version, they really are coming off dumb in execution and for revealing their intentions so early and forgetting that quantity has a quality all its own. 7.5 billion people aren’t going to go quietly.
“I had a longer comment on that but the server keeps refusing me.”
I got that yesterday.
beta tester?
It’s been happening for a a while, but it doesn’t seem as bad as it was.
Thicc comment?
Eventually the murder of 36 million people worldwide in the 1940’s is going to look quaint.
Yes
They have removed anyone and anything that can point out the emperors new clothes. In removing FOX by calling it lies, by removing any teachers who point out the issues with leftism and so on, they have nothing to point out the flaws in either plans or executions therein.
FOX is nothing more than controlled opposition at this point.
Well, about 4 billion will and 2.5 billion are in poor, remote areas that nobody cares about politically. It’s that last billion that might stand up.
I got my global elite long rant comment out of the way on Yusef’s late night post last night.
I have this song on my gym play list. It always seems appropriate while doing cardio with all the news channels showing their nonsense. `

“Starbucks will permanently close 16 of its stores in woke cities across the US”
Then when people start shooting up at McDonalds, those will close too. At least they’ll still have Arby’s.
Taco Bell will emerge victorious!
As was foretold by St. Sylvester and the Lady Sandra.
THERE… ARE… THREE… SHELLS!
How come they aren’t guilty of “cultural appropriation”?
Because attacking the symbol of Latinx people would be bad for the Dems right now?
Latinx aren’t a monolith! They’re as unique as San Antonio breakfast tacos!
The breakfast burrito people feel left out.
Leave me out of that please.
It was foretold. “Now all restaurants are Taco Bell.”
*clenches down there*
16?
That covers a total of two city blocks.
Yeah, but now they have to walk across the street to the Starbucks that didn’t close. That’ll show them.
Or less….

It’s not much, but some of the ones closing locally are in what are/were high traffic, formerly nicer parts of the city. Between their “OK to shoot up in the bathrooms” policy and general violence by homeless crazies, viable locations are having to shut down.
Doesn’t one of the guys from Motley Crue have a Starbucks in his house?
The JWST makes me feel lucky to be alive and conscious enough to appreciate humanity’s collective ability to peer into the cosmos.
I am torn between feeling like a fuddy-duddy killjoy and reflexive distrust of the media.
NPR was gushing about the pictures, saying how they were allowing screens at the dinner table and how “clear” they were and the “light…”
The space telescope did NOT take those pictures. Those pictures were created by people at NASA. They’re forgeries. Supposedly they’re traceable to data gathered by JWST, but the actual visual images were created by people for maximum impact/propaganda value. JWST doesn’t see in visible wavelengths, and humans can’t see the images captured by it.
It’s true. It’s all “artistic interpretation”. The infrared telescope gets more details but all the color is false. Hubble was more “real” but limited.
I don’t care, it’s far from the worst thing public money can go to.
Imo, there’s a pretty big disconnect between spectacle in astronomy and real discovery. Anything you can “discover” is inferred from repeated observation of things that are barely detectable. Kind of boring to a lay person such as myself.
You just don’t fucking love science!
Now hold on just a second. I fucking LOVE science.
They aren’t forgeries, they are renderings. Almost all telescopes take images in black and white. They use filtering to capture color information. They also don’t show just a single shot, because there isn’t enough light for that. They take thousands of images, using multiple instruments, and put them together.
Yes, they tweak the coloring in public images to make them more useful, or just look prettier. Just like your brain does to the images captured by your eyes, by the way.
I knew my brain was a liar.
Yeah, they’re forgeries.
They are a representation, like a graph, but these are designed for maximum emotional impact rather than maximal utility. They are consciously designed to give people a sense of intuitive understanding (like our brains do) but without the actual model-to-reality conection that our brians provide.
To be clear — the things NPR was gushing about were thing that were completely creations of the imagineers. The clarity and the lighting, those were both created ex nihilo. Their emotive response was the purpose of the image, not science.
What makes it a forgery is passing it off as real.
^^this
Well, the clarity is real. You can compare prior images taken to the new ones if you doubt it.
I’m not sure what they would mean by “lighting”, that doesn’t really make any sense in this context.
I’ll pop in briefly to say that this is simply not correct. The only true part is “emotive response was the purpose”; in the context of the press release and all the BS, that’s exactly right. However, those data will have science done on them. The “clarity” is real. The electrons sensed in the detector that created those images were created by photons of specific wavelengths as defined by the filter bandpass and the band gap in the detector material. The images are not completely creations, they are quite real.
You know you love us, Swissy.
The data yes, the image… I doubt it. (And I am in the “data is a collective noun” camp.)
But that’s the thing — the detector did not create the image. It’s even more apparent when the image has colors that aren’t even directly correspondent with shifting the wavelengths via algorithm into the visual range.
“The detector did not create the image”
I guess we have different definitions of image then. You seem to be saying that, since we can’t see a 5um photon with our eyes, that the image representation is not ‘real’. Then nothing you see is real. When you see an optical image, a photon stimulates your optic nerve and sends an electrical signal to your brain. Your visual cortex interprets the electrical signal to construct an ‘image’ for you that you interpret as representation of the world.
That’s exactly what’s happening here. A photon generates an electron/hole pair which is sensed as a voltage change and converted to an electrical signal. The detectors optic nerve if you will. That signal is rendered with a strength and spatial location and recorded. The detector subsystems ‘visual cortex’. What gets recorded depends on the energy of the original photon – what was passed by the filter system and what the detector is sensitive to.
The press release images are stacks of multiple of these recorded real images. Generally, a red color is assigned to the longest wavelength observed, a green to the middle, and blue to the longest wavelength and the brightness of each is proportional to the strength of the electrical signal. I’m not sure how that is not a ‘real image’?
It’s really no different that what your eye and brain do. The images are a representation of the real world – much like your vision is a representation of the real world. Or an optical photograph is representation of the real world. You see ‘blue’ because your optic nerve was stimulated by a photon of a given wavelength and your brain is evolved to have a certain response to that optical signal. The image ‘sees’ a specific brightness of ‘red’ because that pixel in the detector was stimulated by a photon created by the transition of an electron in a hydrogen atom to a lower energy state.
Perhaps it dips into the philosophical, but I don’t think extending our visual system beyond the wavelength regime defined by our evolution and casting it into a form amenable to our brains systems constitutes un-reality. If we had evolved in an environment where our eyes were sensitive to IR radiation (our skin is!), those images are what our brain would ‘see’/interpret from the real world.
They are pretty but that deep field shot looks just like the Hubble’s. *shrug*. I know JWST has a different mission and capabilities, just thought they would have unveiled something…better.
Hubble is an UV/Optical telescope, with detector sensitive from ~1000A up to ~1 um. JWST is primarily an infrared telescope with detector sensitivities from ~7000A to ~30um. The resolution of an image is directly proportional to the wavelength of light it senses and inversely proportional to the aperture (diameter) of the telescope. HST was relatively small in size, but sensing in optical wavelengths (and being above most of the atmosphere) means it was high resolution. JWST is much larger so it is able to achieve the same resolution at much longer wavelengths. That’s why the images look similar – they are at roughly the same resolution. It’s just that it’s much more difficult to achieve that resolution at longer wavelengths. And resolution lets you probe physics on small physical scales – when you have that resolution of scale and physics over a long baseline of wavelengths you have a much better lever arm on the physical processes. i.e. absorption might happen at UV/optical (HST) wavelengths but the reprocessed emission will happen in the IR (JWST). Having both those processes resolved at the same physical scale is a powerful tool to disentangle observational biases from actual physics.
Thanks for the info! Yeah I was just hoping they would highlight what we are seeing differently. I know NASA probably wanted to, but Biden had to jump in on it. Still love it.

“The regulations would “define sex-based harassment to include but not be limited to sexual harassment; provide and clarify, as appropriate, definitions of various terms related to a recipient’s obligations to address sex discrimination, including sex-based harassment; clarify how a recipient is required to take action to end any sex discrimination that has occurred in its education program or activity, prevent its recurrence, and remedy its effects; and clarify a recipient’s obligations related to the grievance procedures and other necessary steps when it receives a complaint of sex discrimination,” the document said.”
I didn’t have the stomach to dig into them — but I’m expecting them to try defining “sexual harassment” as refusing to use preferred pronouns. If so, the obvious First Amendment cases should hopefully be swift and merciless. There’s that optimistic side of me peeking out again…
I’m expecting them to try defining “sexual harassment” as refusing to use preferred pronouns
That, and “dead-naming,” which is what they call it when you refer to them by the name on their birth certificate instead of the name they feel like using at the moment. It’s going to create a climate of fear, which is the point of the exercise.
Yes, it is all about putting people back on their heels and preventing a social equilibrium from developing, which is the death knell for burgeoning revolution.
I’m sorry, but I’m not calling the kid I’ve known since he was 3 by his “preferred” name, which is fucking terrible. I’ll deadname that mf until he 1. dies, or 2. he gets it legally changed.
that optimistic side of me peeking out again…
Now, put that on the table. Yes, lay it down, right there – and don’t move.

>>US Housing Affordability Index Drops to Worst Measurement in 16 Years
’round here I’ve seen house prices explode. One block over there is a house for sale at $699k. A few years ago it would have been $350k-ish. It’s nothing special, just a two story mid-60s house, something you’ll see kajillion of in West Michigan. Yes the neighborhood is nice as are the schools but there are lake front homes in this price rage.
Also two blocks over a house recently sold for $450k. It’s a nice brick mid-century. Well the buyer was a flipper. Painted all that beautiful outside stonework and brick, installed a new kitchen… and now is asking $780k. Where it is currently sitting. Very much overpriced for the neighborhood.
Also a house went up for rent- $4k a month! Owners moved out and had someone else move in within a week.
The house behind me is a rental. 5 years ago it was $1.9K a month, which is more than my mortgage. I know some people like the flexibility of renting but, in some cases, you’re throwing money away.
Supposedly we’re opening a fab outside of Grenoble. If it’s the same deal as when we opened this place and the one in Chengdu, I should be able to spend a year or two starting that place up. It’s be nice to rent my house out for more than I’m paying on it.
Driven by?
The floods of people coming across the open southern border settling in cities and cheap apartments wherever? Normals desperate to escape the crime wave in the blue cities…?
It doesn’t seem sustainable – particularly as the cost of heating and cooling is about to go up. I wonder how my son would ever afford his own place if this continues.
Based on people I know?
Daddy will have to give him a ‘loan’. That’s part of why prices are so high, though certainly not the only issue.
There was a lovely midcentury modern in my town that probably had some infrastructure problems because it kept being put up for sale. The flippers turned it into a craftsman. Not sure how, but it was a fucking crime.
Oh god – I’m a big mid-century freak so I’ve seen lots of local homes – most of the houses in my hood were built around 1960 – go through some horrible “updates”.
A few people “get it” and keep their homes rather period correct with some small updates. And then there are the total “makeovers” where only the bones of the original house exist.
I personally would not want to live in midmod because that’s just too much period going on all the time with no respite. It’s intense. I would rather live in a bland contractor special I can spiff up with my art and knickknacks.
On FB this morning, I saw a Zillow post for a ginormous CA home. It was all 80s heavy blond oak, but it wasn’t overwhelming. A granite countertop and a paint job would be enough. I could live in that for however long it took to get the cabinets and bookshelves painted. I would feel obliged to keep a midmod, midmod.
The font Firefox uses (or my zoom level or something) always makes “rn” look very close to “m”.
So I couldn’t help picturing a lovely midcentury modem.

“Uvalde Mayor Don McLoughlin attacked the media after video leaked showing how police officers waited 77 minutes before finally engaging crazed gunman Salvador Ramos and taking him down.
During the time they waited, Ramos slaughtered 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School on May 24.
Mayor McLoughlin repeatedly referred to the release of the video as ‘chicken’ and referred to the leak as ‘unprofessional.’ Following his remarks, another member of the council chimes in and says: ‘The mayor said that it was ‘chicken,’ it was chickens**t.’
McLoughlin told a city council meeting on July 12: ‘The way that video was released today is one of the most chicken things I’ve ever seen.’
The mayor said : Yes, I’ve wanted the video released but all these news agencies knew that we were working with the House committee.’
He reiterated the original plan had been for officials to meet on Sunday morning, provide a report to the parents and then have family member come back a 2:00 p.m. for a question-and-answer session. Then the video was to be released.”

Normal behavior for bad people to attack you when you point out their bad behavior.
It is bad for the people to see leadership not leading.
Well it’s hard to know where to start picking at this, so I’ll just work on tack of “you’re an idiot and/or a liar”.
He’s acting all mad because there’s a leak of a very-high-interest video, like a month and a half after it happened. It’s 2022 – his baseline assumption should have been that the video was going to come out regardless of his intentions or timing. Not knowing that means he’s an idiot. Actually knowing it and pretending that some other COA was more likely is dishonest. He’s going to act like he’s all offended on behalf of “the families” who “should have had the chance to see it first”, but that’s BS. His actions actually align him with the cowering cops and AGAINST the families and the community.
👆👆
He’s a piece of shit pretending to support the families but in reality is covering his own ass and those of the cops.
It’s criminal they didn’t release it immediately.
What and let them all be subjected to mob justice? Hold on a moment, we’ve got to MANAGE this situation.
I admit I’m very disappointed at the fact that the officers haven’t been hanged already, and I’m normally more sympathetic to LEOs than others around here. Every cop I know is fuming and has nothing but contempt for these scumbags.
The one dude sanitizing his hands… I’m surprised none of them have committed suicide.
Because they’re fucking LARPing cowards.

A just society would declare all the cowards at the scene as outlaws in the classic sense of the term. Then the people of the town, Texas, or even the US could punish the cowards as they see fit. Too bad there is no terra nullis for the cowards to run to.
It isn’t even enough to allow abortions or to quietly approve. They must be celebrated, cheered, championed as the ultimate good. Anyone who even tries to suggest an alternative to the abortion must be dealt with swiftly and harshly.

Under Rep. Rolanda Hollis’ proposal, men also would have to pay for the procedure themselves.
But women should get taxpayer funded abortions. Male privilege in action!

PA has license plates that can be ordered for a fee to advertise various causes or affiliations, one of which is “Friends of Coal.” It has a “friends of coal” logo and is often seen on the cars and trucks of people who are in, or adjacent to, the coal mining and energy industrues here.
This morning on the way to the office I passed a Tesla with a Friends of Coal plate that read “COALPG”
At least two Tesla drivers out there recognize reality, then.
Its not even close to reality
Pennsylvania gets about 12% of its electricity from coal.
I know people are used to thinking that 90% of electricity in the US comes from coal but that hasn’t been true for at least 15 years.
Nationally the average today is 20-23% (depends on who is counting). Only 4 or 5 small states have over 70% of electric generated from coal.
That may be true today as natural gas has taken over from other fossil sources. Historically, Pennsylvania has been heavily supplied by coal fired sources. With the closure of TMI, the total supplied from nukes has dropped. Even with the wond farms along the Allegheny ridge going in over the last few decades, renewables are a small fraction.
Can you provide a source for your 12% number? Preferably one that also shows all other sources.
As I said, natural gas generating facilities have proliferated throughout PA, particularly in the historically coal heavy western side of the state. But overall I expect our loads to be heavily supplied by fossil fueled sources.
EIA says Pennsylvania is Overwhelmingly Natural Gas with nuclear still second and coal a distant third now.
Thanks. While I’m not surprised to see natural gas with a big lead there, seeing nukes agrad of coal was unexpected. I used to work at one of the largest coal fired power plants in PA, which is now shut down completely, and knowing details about many of the others, I’m surprised that active coal based generation is lower.
However, and this is important, the PJM grid is heavily supplied from coal fired generating stations in West Virginia, which is likely a net exporter.
I would expect to see a lot of power generated in PA flowing to NJ and MD, and NY, and the western part of PA being primarily powered from coal fired sources in WV and OH, such as the Pleasants, Sammis, and Cardinal stations as well as the Beaver Valley NPS.
Well, power on the grid respects no borders and flows where it is able.
Yes obviously.
When I was “in the business,” we couldn’t see the grid flows (the generation and transmission sides of the business were separate by law), but we could see the net generation of plants all across the system and could guess pretty well at the flows. Also the real time pricing on the grid at echs generator and substation was available to us, which isnalmost as good as flow data.
I usually reference this. Possibly a year or two out of date, but if anything the coal numbers are likely less now. Yes, gov is doing the counting so could be +/- a percent or two either way but not enough to really matter in terms of this sort of discussion.
https://afdc.energy.gov/vehicles/electric_emissions.html
Because of how inefficient a gasoline engine is, even if you were to charge 100% off of coal, because a coal power plant is much more efficient than a gasoline engine, you roughly break even in terms of energy input vs energy output, though possibly not by enough to account for the extra energy/emissions to produce the battery unless you stretch it out to 15-20 years. Theres a lot of debate around this in particular, but its kinda moot because virtually nowhere is 100% coal and most places(especially the places people are most likely to drive an EV) are well under 40%.
Natural gas plants having even greater efficiency than coal you get a net positive vs gasoline and a much shorter time period to account for the battery production.
Real world having a mix of coal, nuke, wind, solar, natural gas, hydro – just how much of a net positive, and how long to account for battery production depends on the actual mix of your power generation.
What about transmission loss from the power plant to the outlet (and again in recharging the battery)? I have no idea how much inefficiency that introduces, but I don’t think its zero.
About 6% loss to your outlet…and some more to your battery
Its not 0 of course.
Had a longer comment but it kept getting eaten
Power plant to wheel is about 25% efficient from a coal plant.
Gasoline engine is somewhere around 20-25% efficient
Coal is obviously not ideal but its not the meme people think it is.
I realize a state level ‘your electricity comes from X’ is not entirely accurate since there can be multiple providers, market purchases, etc.
I live in Iowa. Iowa is HUGE into wind (particularly Alliant)
My power provider is actually MRES so only a small amount of my power (that I can determine anyway) is actually generated by wind. Hydro is the biggest single source for me as far as I can tell.
Its certainly possible MRES is buying some power from Alliant as I know MRES doesn’t generate all it distributes.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott cleared state authorities to return any illegal migrants they apprehend to the border, with a new executive order he signed last Thursday. Monday, the first major migrant bust under Executive Order GA-41 took place with over 70 migrants who illegally crossed the border into Eagle Pass, Tex., being returned to port of entry.
That’s something I guess. It is incumbent on the states to enforce their national borders when the feds refuse too. Perhaps TX should consider invoking the secession provision of its constitutional ratification…
Lord Humungus – saw your comment about not having the flu since 1996. Same for me. Got it around Christmas that year from my mom when she came to visit me at college. It only lasted a couple of days and I haven’t had anything like it since.

When I worked in Big 4 accounting and they gave the flu shot out for free, I did get the flu twice in a four year period or so. Since I stopped getting the shot, no flu since…
I did get the covid cooties though.
I had it pretty bad once that I can remember (i.e. in adulthood) around 2000.
Never had a flu shot.
In the 70s and early 80s, it seemed like I had the flu every few months. And by flu: unable to keep down food, dizziness, body aches, fever, exhaustion
And then, as I got older, I just don’t get those same symptoms. COVID, however, was very similar to what I remember the flu being like, minus the dizziness.
It should be noted that when I was a kid I got tons of ear infections, sore throats, colds, and the flu. But now maybe I get a cold once a year. Not sure what changed – I joke that I’ve just had every combination 🙂
Yeah, I was a “sickly child”. I had so many different things I can’t recall of them.
The story seems to go that it all went away when I got my tonsils out but I don’t know if that’s just a family tall tale or what.
The World Health Organization will update its gender guidance to reflect its belief that gender goes “beyond non-binary,” the organization has announced.
The WHO doesn’t do biology.
The updated guidance will focus on “highlighting and expanding on the concept of intersectionality, which looks at how gender power dynamics interact with other hierarchies of privilege or disadvantage, resulting in inequality and differential health outcomes for different people,” the WHO website reads at the time of reporting.
Ah, more leftist claptrap.
It’s almost like the WHO is just another political organization with a predictable agenda identical to the agenda of all the other political organizations in that outfit.
Just saw stock futures swing 3% in about one second. Hilarious.
The Department of Education (DOE) is proposing an extension of Title IX, a landmark civil rights law prohibiting sex-based discrimination in federally funded schools, that would apply to sexual orientation and gender identity. This proposal would force public schools to allow biological men to participate in women’s sports and access facilities such as locker rooms and bathrooms in order to receive federal funding.
Look, man. Letting men in women’s sports and CRT in schools are just right-wing conspiracies.
Good. This unfortunate step is needed before we can return to sanity.
Warren: “Crisis pregnancy centers that are there to fool people looking for pregnancy termination help outnumber abortion clinics by 3-1. We need to shut them down all around the country.”
But Republicans are fascists.
Because government can censor speech and free association if it is “disinformation” or “a health emergency (that we define)”… :eyeroll:
There to “fool” people into having the baby and giving it up for adoption. Those fucking monsters giving their children to those in non-traditional marriages, or who are incapable of having children of their own.
(Yes, I know that there’s been issues with some of the religious adoption groups not allowing gay/lesbian couples to adopt, which is also bad.)
She’s firmly crossed over into evil.
This is not a recent development.

“how are we normal humans doing today?”
Just switch names with Planned Parenthood.
Pro-choice people: Without abortion are you going to take care of all those unwanted babies? Huh?
Pro-life people: Sure, we have these crisis pregnancy centers where we offer assistance.
Pro-choice people: We need to shut down crisis pregnancy centers!
Outnumbering abortion clinics 3 to 1 shows how unserious pro-life people are about being pro-life – Lizzie.

An Oval Office meeting over Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election became so heated that staff could hear shouting from outside the room and participants nearly came to blows, the Jan. 6 committee revealed during Tuesday’s hearing.
“The meeting has been called ‘unhinged,’ ‘not normal’ and the ‘craziest meeting of the Trump presidency,'” said Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., who led part of the hearing.
The explosive hours-long meeting became the focal point of the hearing, in which the committee made the case that a group of outside advisers tried to persuade the former president to invoke a national emergency to stop himself from being ousted from office while White House aides argued forcefully in opposition.
…because that’s not cartoonish and unlikely.
And even if true… so f’n what? “White House advisors have passionate debate on topic… news at 11”.
Anthony Cumia breaks down the Trump limo brawl story. Very funny,

My seed words failed hard, but look at that upper left. Going into guess 9, I had one letter and no idea where it went.
It took me a long while to find a word that fit. I knew if I found one, it would be right though.
Heh… my LL had the “many words fit the 3 letters you have and you… you keep choosing the one less traveled by. Sucks to be you.” issue.

This woman is a law professor.
I am firmly of the opinion that professors are only fit for filling insane asylums at this point. Sorry, OMWC, list your occupation as short order cook until the sweeps are finished.
So professors are already in the right place then.
*zing*
He should have asked her if she is a biologist.
Everybody is “open to violence”.
What she actually said was that transgender people attempt suicide at a higher rate, presumably moreso when their gender is denied. So the violence is actually self-inflicted.
It’s the real-life version of a cartoon character holding a gun to its own head and proclaiming “Back off or the dude gets it!”
So… Blazing Saddles?
Let’s make insults illegal.
No.
Some people deserve it.
You got an eggshell head.
*Jumps off wall*
“Your mother was a hamster…”
Yet, strangely, the transgender suicide rate goes UP for those who transitioned for those who don’t…
Well, it reveals that their issues were not because they were somehow in ‘the wrong body’ and regret pours in alongside a realization that it’s done irreversable damage to their bodies.
That’s actually not true.
It goes down, but not anything close to baseline levels, iirc. Which implies there is more going on there, perhaps depending on the patient, relative success of the surgeries? The surrounding environment? Not sure exactly.
https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0016885
Study found that those who transitioned had a suicide rate over 20x that of control group. It remains the best study done on the subject. While I don’t have numbers for those who haven’t transitioned, it doesn’t exactly paint a rosy picture of treating gender dysphoria with hormones and surgery.
You know what… I’m pretty sure I am.
Given the high levels of derp these days, violence is certainly becoming an option.
I thought trans people want to be called “women”?
*so confused*
No, there is a fad of people adopting the label for victim cachet, and the ability to bully other people around, So the last thing they want is to blend in to their pretend sex.
Well, the trans people who can get pregnant want to be called “men”. Although, being pregnant seems the farthest thing from presenting masculine.
Since the axiomatic definition of man and woman involves who impregnates who, being able to become pregrant precludes someone from being a man, and reveals them to be a woman.
Please keep your religious clap-trap out of a scientific discussion! /huffs off indignantly
It’s more about forcing others to comply with their ever more irrational demands than anything else.
And they deny they are a religion.
IT IS SIR! /pregnant female
Oh, right. Duh.
*brain freeze*
I know, it’s confusing.
Feature, not bug.
Heh. Need to start calling men “people with penises.”
“Distinguished colleagues, during this session we shall refer only to ‘Hot Dogs’ or ‘Buns’ to avoid violence against trans people.”
If not asses then what? If not Wednesday then when?

Inflation, Ukraine war and Corona virus. Wake me up when we get to pestilence.
Visit San Fransisco. The streets are full of pestilence.
I’m not getting interested until that Hister guy shows up. Then we know things are gonna get crazy.
One of the reasons I like doing the Daily Ray of Sunshine is that I see a lot of good stories that I end up not posting. But seeing them makes me feel good. Reminds me that people are mostly decent and things are still mostly good.
However ….
There is a strain of stories out there that drive me nuts. The stories are purportedly good stories, but make me crazy. A couple examples:
Cowflop 1
Cowflop 2
On one level I’m glad for the people in them. What gets me though is that there is no outrage that the reason the people are in such a predicament is because of shit fucked tyrants. If they wanted these to be a real Daily Ray of Sunshine there should be at least on explicit attack on the vileness of the people who caused the problem in the first place.
Sorry for the rant. Today’s search just turned up a few too many of these.
* This is also why I never post vids of kids reunited with their father coming back from a war zone. Happy for the family, don’t want to help the pro-war narrative.
You’re right. The whole shitshow didn’t effect me much other that these damn masks. Not true for waaay too many people.
I agree. Although I find it odd one of my Japanese friends was mildly jealous of me in NYC for how things were more normal in NYC of all places in the US.
Although she seems to believe in the magic of masks. I just say I don’t believe they work and we move on. Funny how that is possible…
If there is anyone you can trust, it’s a Cheney.
Trump tried to call a Jan. 6 witness who hasn’t appeared publicly yet, Cheney says, and the person didn’t answer and instead alerted their lawyer. Cheney says she has “supplied that information to the Department of Justice.”
Seems legit.
I would trust Lon Chaney if he were still alive.
As Ownbestenemy said, even if Trump called, there is nothing illegal about that. cheney knows this. She’s counting on the idiots who eat this shit up not knowing it and the media not clarifying that for them.
They are relying on propaganda heavily and a compliant media that no longer ask questions. How do you know Trump was trying to persuade the witness if the person didn’t answer? What they are doing is making the non-fringe voters stop and think how crazy they sound when they think they are swaying them.
Im holding my prediction they will drag this out long enough to magically attempt to arrest Trump sometime in the middle of Oct
This is happening more often.
A dad says he’s gonna read from graphic books available to children in school and gets shut down by @oneclayschools board before he even starts because it might be against the law to read from these books in front of children.
These books are in school libraries.
Well their own words said it was an exploratory inquiry and not a trial so the Donald can talk to whoever he wants. Just like they can twist the screws of their witnesses.
Off by one reply lol
Missed it by that much.
That administrator might be one of the most condescending pieces of shit I’ve ever heard. I would have blown a gasket being spoken to like that.
They know the books are not age appropriate and will continue to gaslight.
Made my blood boil. Also she goes on to acknowledge that the “pornographic material” is, in fact, in the school library. Fucking cunte.
Yeah, that pencilneck deserves a beatdown.
Uffda. I’m fairly anti-censorship, but I think it is a fair ask to be aware of what is stocked in an elementary school library.
If it was a public library for everyone, I’d tell the parent to pound sand. But a library just for kids? I’m not outraged.
It would also be easier to stand up for these administrators if the same people hadn’t spent a lot of time trying to ban Huck Finn from schools because it used the n-word.
Anyone trying to make the argument that a school library is a public resource and should never impose any censorship should be asked if that means the homeless can come in to use the public computer terminals to look at pr0n in there.

Gee, what can we get from a bunch of coddled, oversexualized, overprotected, entitled children who don’t work?

Not wrong.
The GOP has been after this for awhile now.
“We all need to get creative and use every tool in our toolbox to protect reproductive freedom in Michigan and across the United States,” said Governor Whitmer. “Today, I sent a letter to President Biden urging federal action to make birth control available over the counter, without a prescription. Getting this done would knock down the most costly, time-consuming barrier to obtaining birth control. In the wake of the overturn of Roe v Wade, we must pull out all the stops to make it easier and more affordable for everyone to secure contraception and take bold steps to protect women by ensuring that health—not politics—guides medical decisions. Let’s work together so women have control over their own bodies.”
They should make nearly everything available OTC without a prescription. Although an argument can be made against OTC antibiotics.
Except ivermectin. That shit has the potential to kill someone; even if it has never happened in the entire history of the drug the potential is there.
The Dems will simply do a replace all on the GOP bill that has been shot down multiple times and have new sponsors and the MSM will fall all over themselves with how brave they are.
The only change will be some special tax that will be added. The tax will be dedicated to Planned Parenthood to replace their lost revenues.
Yep, Democrats and their supporters like Planned Parenthood have been blocking this for years. PP makes a lot of money with birth control, and they don’t want to give up that cash cow. Democrats love having it as a wedge issue in the fight over health care.
But I suppose now it might actually happen, and will be hailed in the media as a great victory for Democrats over the evil backwards Republicans.
Let’s work together so women have control over their own bodies.
But if contraception is OTC then insurance won’t pay for it, I have to!
There are prescription versions of many OTC, and I doubt that will change.
Yeah, I couldn’t understand what she was trying to say.
I agree that everyone should be able to take whatever they want. Though I think the risks of hormonal birth control are greatly under represented. Making people go to a doctor who will ultimately prescribe it in 100% of cases anyway is dumb and evil.
Anyone have an interest in (sporadic) Marijuana reviews? I buy every 6-8 weeks and try to get some new strains every time. I’m not the most experienced smoker – ie, I couldn’t tell you the time I got high at Woodstock (like OMWC).
However my friend (who used to illegally grow in the 1990s) and I have several theories about brain chemistry, usage, and how to maximize getting high.
You write them while high and I’m game.
You’re on!
May be depiction of LH…
I have zero practical interest in marijuana but I’d read them to increase my knowledge of the world, I suppose.
^ This. I don’t smoke, but I’m interested in how the state of the art has changed since, oh, probably 1980, which is about the last time I did smoke – marijuana, anyway. I understand there has been a lot of careful selective breeding resulting in some interesting new strains.
Although certainly not the death drug modern pols make modern marijuana out to be, it’s not really the same weed.
The 90s was a panacea for cross breeding, and they did a really good job.
I don’t smoke, but I think it would be interesting anyway.
I’ll read and give feedback. I’ve been smoking since the 80’s, not all day/every day anymore, but often enough to fit several derogatory slurs.
Blimey…
A senior bishop of the Church of England said this week the Church has no “official definition” of a woman amidst an evolving understanding of gender in the contemporary world. …
“There is no official definition, which reflects the fact that until fairly recently definitions of this kind were thought to be self-evident, as reflected in the marriage liturgy,” Bishop Innes stated.
“The LLF project however has begun to explore the marriage complexities associated with gender identity and points to the need for additional care and thought to be given in understanding our commonalities and differences as people made in the image of God,” he added.
God is not a biologist, after all.
He just makes ‘‘em doesn’t know what’s in ‘em.

So their own doctrine and source of their faith don’t give them their official definition? You can be inclusive without going this route you feckless idiots.
“Was Eve a woman? How about Mary?”
Does the Church define God?
Indeed – quite a bit of their instruction manual does just that!

Well if I were him, I would simply get all the video of the Somalis driving around on july 4th (and their impromptu fireworks show in a movie theater) and then challenge them to show me video of all the mayhem being caused by the Lutheran kids.
But he is a commie prog so he will grovel.
Ah well, then he deserves his struggle session.
It would be real fun if there was a public hearing where each side got to present evidence to show whether the statement was true. You know, to see if the statement was really grounded in ignorant bigotry or a reflection of actual reality.
For some inexplicable reason, I don’t think the politicians attacking this guy would want that.
Reality is an ignorant bigot, that’s why they prefer post modernism.

Great, thanks for the spoiler! I’ve been meaning to watch that for 40 years, and now you ruined it!
Seriously, though, watching that clip I realized I’ve never seen it. How have I never seen this movie? Looks like it’s on HBO Max, so easily fixed.

I’m going to get a physical Friday that I can no longer put off. I’m only going because they won’t renew my meds without one. They are requesting me to wear a mask. We’ll see if I feel like it. It’s new office. The doctor is full up. I hope his NPs aren’t lefty twits.
Good morning, Banjos!
So my covid cold lasted about a week. I still sound stopped up but I’m not, though I get a hacking cough fit about once a day now. Just a cold. I didn’t even run out of my Tessalon Perles.
That was the length of mine too… though for 2 weeks afterward I felt exhausted and low on energy. I eventually forced myself to workout and gained my strength back.
Based on my own experience I think “long COVID” is people who just got out of shape by being sick and are surprised their strength didn’t rebound; well that and some overthinking.
People with anxiety disorders have long covid.
+1 fibromyalgia.
Sounds true in general, but there are exceptions. We have a friend who is in her 60s. Very fit (hiked up Aspen mountain once a day for exercise) and health conscious. Ended up getting a pacemaker after a bout of long covid.

I make shit up, therefor I am.
Twitter officially sued Elon Musk on Tuesday over the Tesla CEO’s attempt to terminate the $44 billion deal he made to purchase the social media giant.
In the complaint, Twitter accuses Musk of refusing “to honor his obligations to Twitter and its stockholders because the deal he signed no longer serves his personal interests” and seeks to force him to go through with the offer he made in April.
What happened to, “We’ll never sell our precious truth machine to that loathsome buccaneer. Not for any price,”?
“Having mounted a public spectacle to put Twitter in play, and having proposed and then signed a seller-friendly merger agreement, Musk apparently believes that he — unlike every other party subject to Delaware contract law — is free to change his mind, trash the company, disrupt its operations, destroy stockholder value, and walk away,” Twitter’s lawsuit states.
Sounds like computer dating.
His counterargument better be epic..like…you failed to provide user metrics and couldn’t prove you are lying about your numbers, both real and bots.
Also, you intentionally hampered my ability to gather that information myself by putting arbitrary limits on my access to your API, limits that were not discussed prior to us stumbling across them.
Based on the little I know, Twitter is fucked.
They refused to give him their algorithm for estimating bots/fake accounts. In ordinary due diligence, the fact that something is proprietary or confidential makes no difference – the buyer has agreed to protect it. They instead offered him access to the “fire hose” feed for Twitter, but gave him crippled software to access it, without disclosing that it had been altered from what Twitter uses.
There are independent studies of bots/fake accounts on Twitter that puts them at multiples of what Twitter claims. That puts fraud by Twitter on the table.
So, Twitter at this point is at risk of multiple shareholder lawsuits – for the potential fraud, and for not cooperating with Musk’s due diligence, thus killing the deal. Twitter pretty much has to sue Musk to fend off shareholder lawsuits, but that opens Twitter up to no-kidding subpoenas and discovery, and the risk of spoliation of evidence. The likelihood that discovery won’t show Musk had a good reason for killing the deal is low. That discovery is also likely to produce evidence of great interest to the shareholders and other litigants, because . . .
Twitter is also at risk of lawsuits from whatever advertisers they have and whoever they sell user data for, because if the eyeball count is inflated or the data is garbage, those people aren’t getting what they paid for.
I don’t see an out for Twitter here. They won’t be fighting a two-front war, they will be fighting a three -front war, against plaintiffs with multiple overlapping claims.
“How dare you get upset at a little fraud!”
“It’s sooooo harrrrdddd to measure bots!”
I have been crowned! 👑👸
That corner of my mouth still feels a little weird (they didn’t numb me at all,) but doesn’t hurt. Got hungry and luckily had some packets of “lower sugar” instant oatmeal that I could cook up with warm-but-not-too-hot water. Will keep fingers crossed when I eat my salad for lunch. (Already promised to give the packet of rock-hard croutons to Reliable Co-worker.)
Ugh, croutons. they’re almost always too far into the too hard for food category and I tend to toss them out.
Huh, I love croutons.
Try making them yourself if you never have. You can easily take them to next level awesome. We get free day old sourdough loaves from the market across the street and I make them all the time. Experiment with the flavorings and you can crisp them in the oven to the desired level.
I think I tried it once, but we overcooked them.
Once I have time for hobbies again I will give it a shot once more.
Yeah they cook pretty quick at 400. Remember to flip them a few times during cooking to get them evenly browned.
Two words:
Cornbread croutons. Cut cornbread into cubes, toast in the oven. Softer, better flavor (sweeter) than regular bread.
You’re welcome.
I like the robust crunch and seasoning hit I get from the croutons I get. There could be a use case for that though, a la adding dried fruit.
Parm crisps.
The late lamented Seven Horse Tavern made “seahog chowder.” It was lobster chowder mixed with pulled pork and deep-fried cornbread croutons.

Absolutely they are now ramping it up, they are laying the groundwork to blame it all on Biden when the election goes south for them. They want to have Kammie in there for a while before the 24 campaign kicks off so they can put out enough fluff pieces on how wonderful and historic her Presidency is while using the same strategy that they used in 20 of keeping her hidden as much as possible and eliminating most unscripted moments with the press. They will of course have the requisite intimate long form interviews with the likes of George Snufalufgous and such that will provide such hard hitting questions to her as, “how difficult has it been to be a woman of color in a historic role in a country that is still beset by the horrors of racism and white supremacy?”
If Harris is installed just after the midterms, she’ll get 10 years in office in theory. I said this just after Brandon was elected. I gotta go find my old Tweets & comments so I can gloat in November.
Yeah, I very much agree. I have a bet with my brother from Jan 2021 that Joe would resign (or be impeached and removed) and not make the four years. He’s not a Biden fan, just a fan of betting in general. He didn’t want to increase it when I asked a couple weeks back. If Trump is the Elephant nominee then I’d say it’s more than 50/50 that she will win, despite her current negative polling numbers. Getting her in there will not only give them the 10 year thing, but it will also giver her the inevitability factor, especially with the massive media push that will accompany her taking the throne.
If she gets in and the Repubs manage to take Congress, get ready for 10 years of “She should be allowed to save us all and pass laws by her own!”
If Harris actually wins a Presidential election, I’m leaving the country. That is not an idle threat.
It will be all racism all the time by the obstructionist Repubs who won’t allow a woman of color to succeed in the Oval Office which is why she will have to issue a historic number of historic executive orders written by the Dem machine.
She’ll have a pen and a phone, which is completely different then OMB’s evil pen and EO’s.
Eh…I don’t see it. Harris has been a joke for two years, only slightly less so than Joe. The buzz around her even in the mainstream media has been about how much her team clashes with Joe’s, how disappointing she’s been…yea, there’s puff pieces and they use kid gloves, but they have not been setting us up for an impeachment of Joe and the coronation of Harris. The groundwork isn’t there for that.
Any R would destroy her, especially Trump. The media has been shining that turd for years and it hasn’t made her the least bit likeable. She is incredibly off putting. The only reason she got as high as she has in politics has been due to lack of national exposure. Holy shit is she unpleasant.
Not the only reason, Banjos.
Also, blow jobs.
But their plan is to install her and (wishful thinking) get her 10 years. Whether the plan works is another discussion entirely.
Fact vs Fiction, CNN style
Nearly two-and-a-half years since the coronavirus pandemic began, the most infectious and transmissible variant yet has arrived.
Repeated Covid-19 waves have left millions of people dead, with only vaccines helping to blunt the toll. Now the virus is spreading again — evolving, escaping immunity and driving an uptick in cases and hospitalizations. The latest version of its shape-shifting, BA.5, is a clear sign that the pandemic is far from over.
And then, one day, the wolf really did come. But the villagers paid no heed to the little boy’s screams for help, which they had heard so many times before. The wolf killed the little boy, and ate him.
And they all lived happily ever after.
I mean, that’s gotta get blocked for being misinfomration right?
Oh it stopped at some point?
I thought they were pivoting to present real news?
Our hospitalizations are up – from about 8 or so patients a day a few months ago to around 15. Of course, our peak was 200 during OG COVID, and about 100 during Delta.
Pick those cherries, CNN! Pick them all!
‘with only vaccines helping to blunt the toll. ‘
Oh ffs.
Obi Wan Pfizer, you’re our only hope.
NPR had some doctor on who claimed you could catch the new Covid by simply passing near someone at a shopping mall.
There were reports that it lives for months on frozen meats. They are laying heavy into the 2020 rhetoric about it. Wonder why
OK WTF. Why can’t I post my motherfucking comment? Just tried from a new device. No dice.
Cut it into two parts.
It’s literally one sentence.
I’ve been unable to post a formatted link – just had to post the raw link
No formatting, no links – just text.
I have had tons of problems like that (not today but recently). It almost seems like the server is detecting “duplicate” text and rejecting it because sometimes I will have many repeated errors followed by success with a completely different post. I also wonder if it hasnsomething to do with mutiple posts from the same source. I know the server does duplicate testing and also “rapid posting” rejection and that the server errors do not reflect those other error messages, but I wonder if it isn’t those subsystems that are causing the errors. It’s not visible to the client but maybe the logs have better info.
This is not something I know how to fix, so I’m not the new webmistress anymore. I don’t think we have one yet.
It was my first post of the day. It just said something about a “misconfiguration”, nothing about duplicates. But it only happened on that one comment. It kind of makes me wonder about WordPress, since I have conspiracies on the brain.
Why do they ever let him out amongst the people?
Freak.
He is really startin to look like Chris Elliot

Forgot to put the weave in that morning.
Pedo Peter strikes again.
My prediction that the Dem machine would oust the prez just after the midterms is going strong, (con’t)
Welp, can’t post the 2nd 1/2 of my comment. Can’t type it in, can’t paste it in.
Hmmmm. Unusual. Can you summarize?
Nope. Every time I try to post the second part, no matter how I word it or how I post it (typing or copypasta), it won’t let me.
It’s literally no more than 20 words.
Try Pig Latin!
the egacy-lay edia-may seems ore-may illing-way to eport-ray on the Esident-pray’s ailure-fays. It’s aying-lay the oundwork-gray for his eposure-day
It worked!
Now try ROT13.
Ternalinay verseray roreray?
Is it related to the Hunter stuff coming out, the sudden tranche of thumbsucking media pieces about Joe not being all there?
Before January? Lots of folks think dragging him across the 2 year mark is the goal.
KH could have 10 years in office if they remove Brandon just after the midterms. That was the goal all along.
She’s literally Frank Underwood. She will become Prez without a single vote being cast for her, not even by her own party.
Eh, not even first. Gerald Ford beat her to that.
The only way Harris wins (or “wins”) any election is either massive voter fraud, way beyond anything we may have seen so far, or the criminalization of the Republican Party by the Dems and their co-conspirators in the DOJ/FBI/alphabet agencies.
Either way, I’m out.
She’s literally Frank Underwood.
There’s a joke about blowjobs there, I’m sure of it.
Harris does her best work under wood?
Hmmmm. Needs something more.
I think you are trying to post either hate speech or misinformation that is why it is not going through
Hevia > Nena
*rubs chin in thought*
So this person is saying hurry up and get an ineffective booster now, rather than later?
Heard on the radio yesterday: getting your booster is like charging your phone.
Good for 12 hours?
[golf clap]
*narrow gaze*
What are you people doing to your phones? I get weeks off a single charge.
We know grandpa
I actually get two days and a bit out of my 5a . Or when I was in Belgium almost a full day. But when I travel I use it a lot for maps when walking or browsing when on a train.
Scrolling on glibs?
If you put the wrong one it, it kills the whole thing?
And, you win the internet today with this comment. Well played.
Why you shouldn’t wait for updated boosters if you’re eligible now – I am waiting for the one in 60 years from now. I can be patient.
Looking at the reported symptoms of BA.5….Im good with rolling the dice that are heavily in favor of being a cold.
SURGING NOW
I should burst into the Spousal Unit’s office while yelling that.
I wonder if it’ll get me some afternoon delight?
Official data dramatically undercount the true number of infections in the US, epidemiologists say, leaving the nation with a critical blind spot as the most transmissible coronavirus variant yet takes hold. Some experts think there could be as many as 1 million new infections every day in the broader US population — 10 times higher than the official count.
Without testing, you don’t even know you’ve got it!
I see Dr Fauxi is back in the news after his Rona pause calling for masks to be worn indoors again.
Him and Walensky were trotted out to back up the doom articles
I haven’t disliked someone this much in a long time.
Of course there’s another ‘outbreak’ – otherwise people might notice how the watermelons have destroyed the economy of two countries, and are about to follow it up in another five or six…

Buckle up, Europe!
It’s time for the “gas-to-wood” solution!
If this were GlibFic, y’all would say it’s too unbelievable.
Most fuel wood used in Europe is shipped in from the US. They can’t cut their own trees because EU.
It’s renewable!
We save the environment when we cut trees down.
How long til they ban Paraffin?

LGBTQ social media users say social media is neither a welcoming nor a safe place for them, a new GLAAD report shows.
In a survey, 84% of LGBTQ adults said not enough protections are on social media to prevent discrimination, harassment or disinformation, according to the report. Additionally, 40% of LGBTQ adults, as well as 49% of transgender and nonbinary people, do not feel welcomed and safe on social media.
This is because of the levels of hate and harassment they face while on platforms such as Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, according to GLAAD.
GLAAD’s findings, released Wednesday, are a part of the organization’s second annual Social Media Safety Index — a report on LGBTQ user safety across those five major social media platforms. GLAAD is the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer media advocacy organization.
Dictatorship of the minority is wholly justified when it serves our purposes.

I seem to recall previous complaints along these lines were met with “So set up your own.”
With that crowd they will demand that the government provide them with their own.
Yes, please.
*checks political affiliation of complainers*

Sorry, the correct response is “there should be a law”
Yawn. There is “hate and harassment” targeting every conceivable characteristic on social media. Buck up, buttercup.
FIrsters are the most persecuted and targeted people on the planet, and we have no organization of Firsters crying and whaling calling for special protections. Because Firsters are made of titanium. We cannot be broken.
I, for one, did not know that Fisters went whaling.
GLAAD graded each social media company based on each platform’s measures to protect LGBTQ users. It took into account features such as whether those platforms offer gender-pronoun options on profiles or block ads that could be harmful or discriminatory.
Sounds legit.
The act of blocking ads sounds discriminatory.
“No matter what you do for me, it will never be enough.”
“What have you done for me lately?”
Where “lately” = “the last 10 attoseconds.”
“All platforms should follow the lead of TikTok and Twitter and should immediately incorporate an explicit prohibition against targeted misgendering and deadnaming of transgender and non-binary people into hateful conduct policies,” GLAAD’s senior director of social media safety, Jenni Olson, said in a statement. “This recommendation remains an especially high priority in our current landscape where anti-trans rhetoric and attacks are so prevalent, vicious, and harmful. We also urge these companies to effectively moderate such content and to enforce these policies.”
Land of the free, they said.
Home of the brave, they said.
Wait until they miss a few meals. It all collapses in a day.
I think the EU should bring back industrial whaling, as a renewable energy source.
