    Virtual pets? Thatā€™s so sad.

Dredge begins as you, a lone fisherman lost at sea, stumble across a small maritime village. Youā€™re greeted by the local mayor and the pair of you strike a deal: You are allowed to stay here on the condition that you provide for the town, and you can take out a loan to purchase a basic boat that will enable you to do so. A couple of days pass, during which you catch simple fish like cod and mackerel, both of which can be sold for decent money.

    Stay away from Innsmouth.

    • SDF-7

That’s how they reel you in.

NH House Majority leader used a naughty word ten years ago when writing a post condemning racism and pedophilia

Speaker of the House Sherman Packard said Thursday he will not be removing House Majority Jason Osborne (R-Auburn) over a social media post from 2011 in which he used the ā€œN-word.ā€ The decision comes just months after a progressive member was disciplined for reportedly shouting the word at a young Black activist in the State House.

The New Hampshire Bulletin broke the story that a Democratic candidate for the House, Kathleen Cavalaro of Rochester, was pushing out a screenshot of the comment from a long-disbanded chat room for a libertarian radio show. The Bulletin confirmed that Osborne, 45, was the author of the post.

Defenders of Osborne say that, while the word is certainly offensive, Osborne was clearly ā€” if clumsily ā€” using it to condemn racial violence, not to engage in it. Though at least one GOP House member conceded to NHJournal it was ā€œa dumbass comment.ā€

    Osborneā€™s 2011 statement:

ā€œIf someone says to you that they support lynching a (racial slur), and in fact, they really are stimulated by the thought of lynching a (racial slur), would you associate with that person?ā€ Osborne wrote in response to another commentator. ā€œWould you tell people about it? If you say that having an idea that lynching (racial slur) is good is not the same as having an idea that (expletive) kids is good, then that is the source of the disconnect there.ā€

    • ron73440

I will never understand the thinking behind treating nigger as a word that cannot be said no matter the context.

Why do they think we should treat a word as if it has magic power?

      • DEG

I found out about this tempest in a teapot by dropping in on the NH subreddit (I know, I know).

Holy shit there are a lot of people there that think if type the word “nigger”, regardless of context, you must be a racist. And yes, I said to myself as I read the subreddit, “If you hear the dog whistle, you might just be the dog.”

      • rhywun

I completely understand it. It is a means of control – because you know it’s perfectly acceptable for certain people to say it.

GOP Establishment shanking NH outsider candidates

A GOP Super Pac known for helping oust Republican candidates viewed as extreme has dropped a tough ad targeting newcomer Karoline Leavitt in the First Congressional District primary.

Leavitt, who just turned 25 and legally eligible to serve in Congress last month, has been gaining in the polls recently on presumed frontrunner Matt Mowers. She has had considerable fundraising success and received the endorsement of several nationally-known Republicans including her former boss, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.).

My MIL is a very special person. If she hears you have lost a loved one, she’ll send you a card. And then you’re in her address book, and she’ll send you birthday and Christmas cards every year. She does this to people she has never met in person. Tomorrow we’re having a surprise 70th birthday party for her at my house, and at least 80 people are coming. Very few RSVP’s “no”. There will be relatives, friends, and co-workers. It’s going to be crazy.

    Reverence and respect

On Friday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre defended the administrationā€™s decision to use the Marines in the shot.

ā€œThe presence of the Marines at the speech was intended to demonstrate the deep and abiding respect the president has for these service members to these ideals and the unique role our independent military plays in defending our democracy no matter which party is in power. Again, no matter which party is in power,ā€ Jean-Pierre said.

Or, you know, an implicit threat.

    • The Other Kevin

It seems like Biden is back pedaling. Seems, because if you look close it’s another instance where he reads one thing from a teleprompter, and then goes off script when let off the leash.

    • kinnath

Still no response from my progressive FB friends on my post regarding the sinister setting for last night’s address. They’ve all gone silent.

      • The Other Kevin

I’m debating about stirring things up with my mom. I probably should be a stoic and keep my mouth shut. But I’m sure she and dad watched the address, and I wonder if she thinks me and her three other kids are a clear and present danger to democracy, and what she thinks the president should do about us.

      • kinnath

The imagery was so appalling that I couldn’t keep it in.

I decided it was time to start burning bridges with anyone that supported that cluster fuck last night.

      • Ted S.

Considering that TEAM BLUE think they should be able to stir it up without consequence, perhaps you should.

A lot of these debates aren’t so much about the other person as about the onlookers, who might be emboldened if there’s some pushback to the TEAM BLUE barrage.

    The sacrifice is real.
How monkeypox spoiled gay men’s plans for an invincible summer

Rojas was one of the first U.S. residents to receive the prized monkeypox vaccine, in late June. But even with the benefit of his first jab of the two-dose vaccine, he has still sharply curtailed what he had hoped would be a long-awaited libertine summer.

ā€œIā€™ve stopped going to sex parties,ā€ he said, given that public health authorities identified such gatherings of men as major monkeypox risk factors. ā€œI also stopped having sex with people who live off their OnlyFans. I additionally stopped cruising at the gym, I did not continue to go to Fire Island, and I stopped attending orgies.ā€

    • The Other Kevin

Way to hold up the stereotype.

    • MikeS

But AIDS wasn’t enough of a reason to stop doing those things?

      • grrizzly

Nobody has AIDS anymore. Guys are on PrEP, so they won’t catch HIV. And those who became HIV+ are on drugs that make their virus load undetectable and not in a position to infect anybody else.

      • MikeS

Dead thread, but thanks. I did not know that.

      • rhywun

I guess the current drugs make whoring yourself somewhat safer again. Yay.

      • Grosspatzer

“Somewhat safer”. Risky behavior has always come with risks, and the risks are not limited to gays. Before monkeypox, there was AIDS; before AIDS gonnorhea, Chlamydia, syphilis… which are all still out there if you like to take a walk on the wild side. Did people really think that sex with random strangers was safe before the latest round of STDs?

  15. The Late P Brooks

Biden attempted to clarify his comments about Republicans more generally again on Friday.

ā€œI donā€™t consider any Trump supporter to be a threat to the country,ā€ Biden said. ā€œI do think anyone who calls for the use of violence, fails to condemn violence when itā€™s used, refuses to acknowledge an election has been won, insists upon changing the way in which we rule and count votes, that is a threat to democracy.ā€

    Selective recall strikes again.

Gorbachev, who died Tuesday in Moscow at age 91, to this day is regarded by many in the West as someone who could have reformed the Soviet Union. An overall impression among many is that things could have been much worse, had someone more bloodthirsty occupied the Kremlin at a time. Sure, he did not tear down the Berlin Wall like Reagan encouraged him to. But he also did not send in the tanks when Germans started tearing the wall down themselves.

    Too fucking bad for us

had someone more bloodthirsty occupied the Kremlin at a time.

Tell that to the people in Lithuania and Latvia.

The amount of projection in progressives is quite amazing. They spent 4 years complaining about Hillary losing fraudulent 2016 election, supported actual violence all summer of 2020, completely ignored Constitutional rights during blue state COVID lockdowns but it’s the Republicans that are a threat to democracy. Then, Biden goes full retard/facists in his speech last night and they’re cheering? Just WOW.

ā€œWe based that character on this insane man, Jordan Peterson, who is this pseudo-intellectual hero to the incel community,ā€ Wilde said.

She further explained the incels as a community of ā€œdisenfranchised, mostly white men, who believe they are entitled to sex from womenā€.

ā€œThey believe that society has now robbed them ā€“ that the idea of feminism is working against nature, and that we must be put back into the correct place,ā€ Wilde added.

Wilde continued: ā€œThis guy Jordan Peterson is someone that legitimises certain aspects of [the incels] movement because heā€™s a former professor, heā€™s an author, he wears a suit, so they feel like this is a real philosophy that should be taken seriously.ā€
