“Economic Freedom Falls in the United States, Global Report Shows”
Let’s slip into the weekend with something a little different.
“Economic Freedom Falls in the United States, Global Report Shows”
I just need to look at my bank statements.
“Central to economic freedom is the ability of individuals to rely on courts for impartial decisions relating to property disputes. The extent to which government can enforce property rights and contracts in an unbiased manner is key to economic freedom.
So how did the US fare here? Over one year, the US didn’t have much change. The score for the legal system fell slightly, from 7.64 to 7.56.”
Declaring which workers were essential and whether businesses can stsy open wasn’t much of a change?
They’re comparing ’22 to ’21, not ’21 to ’20… I think the gov drones were in full on Stasi mode by this time last year, so it is fair to say we haven’t changed that much by not improving that much.
“This year’s report covers the year 2020.”
Ok, then “The Hell?!?!?” is indeed the appropriate response. Mea culpa.
Or what it takes to start a business. That is what I use to measure economic freedom. My wife and I have to file with the city, any city we operate in, the county, the State, FedGov….not to include inspections, etc.
I’ve been entertained by the girlfriend complaining about each permit she has to get. She neglected to get an Occupancy Permit from the fire department, and now she’s needing to get another permit for different signs and the like.
I had to get permission from 6 different city organs to get my current Certificate of Occupancy. Make work BS…most of them didn’t even show up and just signed off on it remotely. Luckily I didn’t have to pay for any of them.
The line to gawp at the queen is so long they should just send her to the taxidermist and put her on permanent display.
Like Lenin.
I saw Mao Under Glass. It was creepy.
Then I had a case of the shits (the two may be unrelated)
Or not.
I’ve seen both Mao and Lenin (several times). Never had a problem afterwards.
You on probiotics? That stops the body flushing the natural toxins caused by Communism and allows more restful processing.
I think he just wore a condom
When seeing Mao, both you and Chiang Kai-shek got the runs.
They could take the coffin down the line.
That is how I saw Reagan.
Float her down the Thames
Rig her as a catapult to toss a sword at some better candidates than Chuckles when they do it.
After all, strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is evidently a good basis for their system of government.
I think you deserve a shrubbery for that comment.
We can burn her, bury her, or dump her.
I’m thinking they should put her on a barge and let the Nine Sisters attend her at Avalon to recover so that she can return to Britain when she is needed most in some future cataclysm.
BODY OF THE QUEEN EXITS STAGE LEFT

THE QUEEN, ALIVE, ENTERS STAGE RIGHT
“Allo chaps! Look’s like England’s in a bit of a sticky wicket! Seems as though the throne has been claimed by some goofy looking tosser!”
The monkey wrench had nothing on “Tea and No Tea”. But I appreciate that they’re going to try to lay out the puzzle pieces so folks can get it with some logic. It sounds like they’re on the right path, and I’m betting I’ll be trying it when it ships.
Or just tell everybody “look, stand where you are and we’ll put the box on a cart and drive it all around”.
Seriously, though, I like that an obviously large number of folks is queueeueoeing (?) up to pay their respects. Classier behaviour (see?) than you get from most people these days.
I’m assuming that was meant for the Queen Under Glass thread. It would make a pretty weird Monkey Island game…. and I hope they didn’t kill Elaine!
“Tea and No Tea” wasn’t all that bad for me. Getting the Babel Fish on the other hand….

Abortive Fletch projects have toyed with casting Jason Lee, Ben Affleck, Zach Braff, and/or Jason Sudeikis in the role.
Gabourey Sidibe, for maximum equity.
Have to confess — mildly enjoyed the first Chevy Chase one back in the day… really have zero interest in the books or a new movie, since the character was fundamentally annoying as hell. That is probably due to how Chevy “Annoying As Hell” Chase played him… but it has seeped into the marrow of my bones at this point.
I read all the Fletch novels back in the day. IIRC, the first few were pretty entertaining, but the series went downhill in a hurry. I kept waiting for the next one to be better, but it never happened. Carioca, Fletch is in the running for the worst novel I’ve ever read.
Funny enough so did I. They were considerably different from the film.
I agree that got progressively worse.
I read a bunch of the novels decades ago and enjoyed them. I remember prices for things explicitly mentioned a few times, and being amazed at how much inflation had driven prices up since the 70’s.
I liked the movies. Jon Hamm had a recurring role on 30 Rock that showed me he could do comedy. Hopefully this new movie is good.
He had some great bits in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt as the Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne.
Hamm can do funny
“a one man show about Faulkner”
That was funny.
“You are on the thinnest of ice!”
There is a movie coming out called “The Woman King” that whitewashes the African slave trade. Its okay because it stars Black people.
And I think Dave’s rule was, ‘If the canon fits we’ll use it, and if it doesn’t, we’ll just kind of ignore it.’
In another era, this wouldn’t bother me. Look at all the retconning Richard Garriot did with the Ultima series.
But in this era? urgh.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) posted a video on Thursday of an exchange with young gun control activists in which the congresswoman appears to kick a woman walking in front of her whom Greene’s staff accuses of impeding her movement.
“These foolish cowards want the government to take away guns & the rights of parents to defend their children in schools,” Greene captioned her video, which shows the congresswoman leaving the Capitol while surrounded by a group of activists asking her questions about gun violence.
“You have to be an idiot to think gun control will create a utopian society where criminals disarm themselves and obey the law,” Greene states.
——-
In the video, Greene appears to step on Pecora’s foot as the younger woman walks in front of her before thrusting her leg against Pecora’s to create space for her to walk.
A man next to Greene told Pecora: “You can’t block a member of Congress.”
“Gen Z is fed up with politicians who continue to put our lives in danger, and this aggression is one of the most visible examples yet of what we are up against,” a Voters of Tomorrow spokesperson told The Hill in response to the video.
Greene told the group of activists to move to a country without the Second Amendment if they are concerned about gun safety.
“You guys should move to some country where they don’t have guns,” she said.
No, no, no. That’s not how it works. THEY are in no way obligated to adapt themselves to the world as it exists around them. WE are supposed to cater to their every whim and fear.
It is probably wrong that at this point, I want MTG to become Speaker if the Stupid Party takes the House. At least she has principles, tells you what they are and seems to stick to them.
Though the guy who said this “You can’t block a member of Congress.” can fuck right off..they aren’t royalty
“You shouldn’t block a Member of Congress, Johnny…. My mother blocked a member of Congress once.
Once!”
A very underrated movie.
“Its an .88 magnum. It shoots through schools.”
And since you sent me there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dv8tVxk6Nj4
Always good, you farging icehole. 😉
That and the “love it or leave it” bit, which is always stupid, is especially so coming from a congress critter, whose entire existence is based on changing things to the way that they think things should be.
I could be wrong but I doubt MTG ran on a platform of “Everything’s perfect lets not change a smidge”
She most certainly thinks the 2A does not need to be changed, which was the topic at hand when she said they should move.
The topic doesn’t make it an any less stupid argument.
Okay maybe if the topic is the weather it’s not stupid, If you hate the weather where you live you should probably move since you aren’t changing that, but political and cultural topics are in constant flux and something one can try to effect changes over.
Nah, it’s not stupid.
“We live like X. Those people live like Y.
I want to live like Y. Therefore everyone currently living like X should be forced to live like Y instead of me just moving over there with the Yers.”
That’s the stupid argument.
Except there is no We, X, Them or Y. There’s me, you, and everyone else and there aren’t enough letters to label all the ways to live. There is no homogenized majority, everyone likes some things and dislikes other and almost no two people are going to agree on everything. Would “love it or leave it” have been a good argument to use against the people trying to over turn Roe for the last 50 years?
Hamm looks a little like Bruce Campbell in that pic.
The Ronnie D. memes will be flowing this weekend.
Is there a map or guide to ethno-state areas like Martha’s Vineyard? I want to know my choices for places to live where the government will haul away illegal immigrants and dump them in a former blue-collar town turned shithole like Lowell or Worcester.
I just can’t help liking ol’ Marj a little bit.

The Biden administration on Thursday announced several new initiatives to develop technology for massive, floating offshore wind turbines as part of the effort to launch offshore wind in California and elsewhere on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts.
The administration said last year that it was moving to advance offshore wind power on the coast of California for the first time. When developed, the regions selected have the potential to generate enough green energy for up to 1.6 million homes over the next decade, administration officials said at the time.
The deep-water regions off the West Coast — and other coastal areas, including the Gulf of Maine — will require turbines to be installed on floating platforms and tethered to the sea floor. The platforms will also allow turbines to be installed farther from the coast.
US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm estimated floating turbines could unlock up to 2.8 terawatts of clean energy in the future — more than double the country’s current electricity demand.
\Blow me.

floating turbines could [or could not] unlock up to 2.8 terawatts of clean energy
FIFH
Because creating those platforms will be totally green I’m sure.
No desalination plant on the coast because…. fish or some bullshit but massive platforms tethered to the sea floor are fine apparently.
Have you plotted your escape from California yet? I have concluded this state can’t be saved from itself.
No, the state cannot. NOt without it getting much worse. Our escape is plotted for after spouse takes retirement – probably 3 years considering economic downturn and that we’re paying for the kid’s college.
This way you can’t count the birds that get chopped into pate because they fall into the ocean.

Hi Riven!
“Jon Hamm finally found a movie that fits his knack for comedy”
I actually think he might be a better fit for the book character. I loved Fletch and I’ll watch this one.
What would we do without the CPSC explaining the dangers of the “suicide cord“?
I’m shocked the Biden administration allows them to refer to it as a male to make cord.
Perhaps home electrical systems would be an appropriate high school class topic. Certainly more useful than most of the crap they peddle.
What do people do with them?
Plug a generator into your house wiring without a transfer switch.
Really dangerous if you don’t do it properly.
Oh, OK
Technically, without a listed generator inlet with appropriate rating and wiring sized for the same, and a means to prevent backfeeding towards the utility.
Also, the cords themselves can have live voltage on the exposed prongs if only one side is plugged into an energized source.
Amen.

Or they had someone like me on board that asked for it LOL
Could also be doing a sales demo, I guess
Im guessing they had no passengers. Can private aircraft request an un-restricted climb like that?
I think so – OBE would know better. Unfortunately the ATC wasn’t audible until they told him to go to departure, so not sure what he requested.
I could see if I can find the ATC archive.
Don’t bother. Im going to bed- some of us work all night, ya know.
I’ll check when I get home
You can request nearly anything from ATC, doesn’t mean they will permit it.
Guessing the date of course of this departure….
https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N717TR/history/20220915/1705Z/KTPA/KPNS
Looks about right. Departing the 1R, built up speed and did about 4000 ft/min climb. Checked Live ATC, but saying that freq was down…which probably wasn’t
oops sorry that was the previous flight that they did a 4000 ft/min climb. This one was 3000 ft/min climb. Because they ran the extent of the runway and then climbed, it looked more dramatic IMHO.
Thanks OBE!
In the late 80’s, the last military jet that could take off in full-afterburner from NAS Oceana was the F-14A+. They had a take-off departure that you had to get through tower because it required ATC clearance known as “an Apollo Longshot.” It was an unrestricted climb out to 38K.
It consisted of much what that Cessna jet did: gear up quick and then flat over the runway to the far numbers on full afterburner – and then pull the stick back and watch the Earth run away beneath you.
I almost shit my pants as a young midshipman, but it was a helluva ride.
Man, that’s cool.

TOS has gone over the cliff on immigration and how De Santis is “punishing” poor, unfortunate illegals by using taxpayer money to forward them on to sanctuary enclaves in Blue states. One of the best comments was to assure everyone the illegals would be fine on Martha’s Vineyard “as long as Teddy Kennedy wasn’t driving them over any bridges.”
I’m guessing team blue really doesn’t want Matha’s Vineyard to be the backdrop for a political battle.
You know, he did look like a bus driver.
In addition, Granholm and White House climate officials announced a new initiative designed to reduce the cost of floating offshore wind energy by over 70%. Granholm called the plan “audacious” and said those cost reductions would be driven by Biden’s recent climate law.
Outgoing White House climate adviser Gina McCarthy called offshore wind a “new American industry that’s really booming” and said the new initiative were designed so the US can try to position itself “to lead the world on floating offshore wind.
We just have to imagineer harder.
SEA SMITH HAVE OFFSHORE WIND!
Having the government pay 70% of the cost doesn’t really reduce the cost by 70%, you know.
